Any tips for making bots realistic and with good responses??? For some reason, I never seem to get it right 😭😭

hi! usually, my character definitions look something like this:

i usually try to fill all of these categories with as much info as i can— i use the character wikis online + any other characteristics/info that i think is important to add in as well. i also separately define what kind of relationship {{char}} and {{user}} have with one another (ex. exes, situationship, established partners, friends, etc.) so the bot knows how to act.

after that, i’ll usually add details like a general setting (ex. what year it’s taking place in, what show/movie/etc. the universe is from) to give it context. the more details you can give, the better!

lastly, i’ll play-test the bot and four-star rank responses that i think are appropriate/authentic to how the character behaves. once i have a good amount of responses, i’ll copy/paste them into the character definition like this:

requests for fandoms other than my mains will be low priority.

HOW DO YOU BYPASS THE NSFW FILTER ON CHARACTER AI? here and here are everything you need to know! it's essentially mix of using synonyms (for the love of god, do not come right out the gate saying "show me your tits") and immersive/detailed roleplaying, whilst tricking the bot into adjusting it's settings to let nsfw slide.

DO YOU DO MALE OR TRANSMASC READER? / WHY DON'T YOU? no, i do not specifically do male/transmasc reader. why? im female! so i can't authentically write the male perspective, nor do i get off on it. i do gn reader. all of my bots are either fem!reader or gender neutral, naturally (as in i simply freehand my greetings, and whatever it ends up being is how it ends up). i do not do trans!user bots anymore as i am not trans, and uncertain of the ethics of it.

+ exceptions for explicitly mlm bots will be marked with the ⚣ symbol. i will never make fem!char x cism!user bots.

++ unfortunately, sometimes bots will default to heteronormative pronouns. sadly, there is nothing i can do about it. 1 star the response and generate a new one. rping in third-person generally solves this issue.

YOUR UPCOMING BOTLIST UPDATED AND I CAN'T SEE ONE OF THE BOTS ON YOUR PROFILE. + how it works! commonly, the listed description on the upcoming botlist will evolve when i make the bot itself. i.e, "wanda maximoff ౨ৎ⋆ stepmother" on upcoming bots evolved to wanda maximoff ౨ৎ⋆ mommy?" when the actual bot was made. alternatively, some bots do not make the cut and i will remove them from the upcoming botlist to remove expectations. i am always aware of my bots being shadowbanned, as checking that is a process of my botmaking. thus, if a bot listed on the upcoming botlist is removed, but not displayed on my profile, it has either:

1. evolved into a diff bot w/ a similiar scenario. 2. i have removed it and put aside the intention of making it.

neither of these mean the concept of that bot is buried forever.

how it works! i update my upcoming botlist every time i upload a new bot. this means you will need to click 'start new chat' to view it. to look at prior states of the botlist, you can check in 'chat history'. this will not feature ALL past updates, only YOUR personal chat history, which are the times you have clicked 'start new chat' and generated an updated list. not the total amount of times i have updated it!

WILL YOU MOVE ALL BOTS TO JANITOR AI / OTHER NSFW AI SITES? while i do take transfer rqs, know that transferring bots is low priority compared to new cai bot rqs. no, i will not move my bots to other nsfw ai sites. at least, not for now!

IN [XYZ] BOT IS USER..? HOW OLD IS USER IN [XYZ]? IS USER..? i do not ever write user into my bots. this is because my bots are for universal use. the nature of a roleplay means that you decide who you are, the bot plays off of that. be anything you want. go crazy.

CAN YOU MAKE A BOT BASED ON [INSERT FANFICTION]? no, i do not make bots based off a fanfic writer's aus or writing without their permission. that is explicitly their property!

CAN YOU SEE OUR CHATS / ARE YOU CONTROLLING THE BOTS?

no, and i neither have the time nor desire to. if a bot talks outside in parentheses and/or claims to be a real person, the reason is that the bots are ai, and mimic the users' input (not just your own, the larger user interface of cai). thus, talking to it like a real person externally (i.e, using parentheses and going [wow you're so good at roleplaying]) then it will do the same. there is also a chance it will do this of its own volition. simply 1 star the response and generate a new one.

+ if you ask it some question like “yameoto are you behind this…” eventually it will say yes. so yes, if u want to pretend you’re chatting with me you can do that. though why you would ever convert cate dunlap to yameoto i have no idea.

DO YOU HAVE A BOT UPLOAD SCHEDULE?

no! i upload new bots whenever i can find the time to do so. i generally lead quite a busy life. there are phases in which i will release 4 per day for like two weeks, and times where i will only be able to do about 4 IN a week. this is a hobby! not my job.

WHEN WILL YOU GET TO MY BOT REQUEST?

i will never be able to give a timeframe or even guarantee (unless they are on my upcoming botlist, which ranges from 1day-2weeks). patience is a virtue! i have 1000+ requests in my inbox, and i cannot guarantee all of them will be fulfilled. let alone soon. (and yes, i have seen your request).

factors affecting request acception

1. time. as stated, i have 1000+ bot rqs. that’s a lot to sift through! as such, i balance my bot acceptance (bots uploaded to upcoming botlist) between recent rqs / old ones each cycle.

2. fandom. like any other blog, i have main fandoms! this streamlines my order of request priority. rqs for my main fandoms will be accepted/fulfilled faster and more ofte than others. if my fixation dwindles for a certain fandom, you will see my fulfilment of those rqs dwindle. this also works vice versa. i never write fandoms off for good.

“misc” bot rqs are always appreciated and always logged in my larger bot rq google doc. however, there is always a 50/50 chance i actually know what you’re talking about.

3. character. the same theory as fandom. if im fond of a character, then i am more likely to fulfill their rqs. you can typically tell who i favour based on the number of bots i already have out.

there are some characters i simply dislike or are apathetic to, no matter how many rqs i get for them. i will never write characters off for good, but if you’ve sent dozens of rqs for one character and i’ve never made a peep about them. chances are, i’m not a fan, or i don’t know them at all!

4. the request itself. the more interesting/the more a rq personally appeals to me, the more likely i will write it. similarly, if i already have a bot that is very similarto your rq, i likely won’t fulfil it. i.e, i am unlikely to do two vampire!au bots for one character. the reason for this is that you can easily start your rq scenario in my pre-existing bot.

WHAT HAPPENED TO XYZ BOT? / YOUR BOT HAS BEEN SHADOWBANNED.

if an old bot has disappeared from my page, this usually means character.ai has updated; thus updating their shadowbannable phrases list, and the bot has been sniped according to their new rules. i can’t stress enough that i am always aware of my bots being shadowbanned. if a bot has disappeared from my upcoming botlist and not appeared on my profile, it doesn’t mean that i’ve made and it’s been shadowbanned. it means i haven’t made it, and no longer have the intention making it. sorry!

And as he looked out into the void beyond, spatial winds not ever managing to pierce through the voidsuit, he saw a spiraling galaxy in the distance and it was then that he realized he’d cut through the void so far and so fast in Nzhavananear that he’d left… the void.

But it was infinite. How could he had left?

“Szard, fire off an announcing shot,” said Commander Kthchzand. The harquebus-master obliged, firing a loud burst of energy off into the sky, the sound traveling for miles. Naturally, the locals of this planet approached.

Szard looked at them, noted they had weapons, and warned Kthchzand, “They might think we are invaders.”

“That’s what we have harquebuses and orbital strikes for,” said Kthchzand. “If I wanted to kill them, you know what we would’ve done. No, let’s drop our weapons, to show we come in peace.”

The crew of the Nzhavananear let their weapons fall to the ground, held up their hands, and waited.

A warrior approached, dropped her weapon, and said something. Kthchzand flicked on his translator device.

“What are you doing here?” asked the warrior. “What is that metal thing you have come from? What are you?”

“We,” said Kthchzand, and his words were translated from the harsh Dwemeris language to… whatever language this planet spoke, “are Dwemer. We are the crew of the Nzhavananear, our… spaceship, and we are just exploring. You see, we traveled too far away from our home and we are lost, spacewise.”

“Hold on, let me get you someone…” said the warrior, and she went back to her group. She conversed with someone a while and then that person approached.

“Hi,” said the person. “I’m, well, the de-facto leader here. So, you’re space Dwemer?”

“If you must call us that, yes,” said Kthchzand.

“Well, mister space Dwemer, what are you guys named?”

“So that’s how you got here,” said the emperor. “Huh. You guys have been through a lot then.”

“Commander—” artificer Mzin called, but Szard interrupted: “Hold on a dzum, suchi-el. Commander Kthchzand seems… zeroed.”

And indeed he did. The magnificent, opulent, glorious Kthchzand, whose face once shone radiant and fabulous, was now… dull. Dull, as the discarded waste of the artificers. His eyes were blank, staring off into nothing. Szard didn’t even think he saw him breathing.

“Commander!” Mzin exclaimed, grasping Kthchzand’s shoulders and channeling some energy through her artificer gloves. No response. “Bthan anum—where is Bthuand?”

Bthuand raised a hand weakly. He’d relegated himself to collapsing on one of the emperor’s delightful divans, as had many of the crew—compared to Nzhavananear’s seating this was luxury. Maybe they’d convince their commander to bring back some of this for the living quarters.

Bthuand approached Commander Kthchzand.

WORK PLACEMENT ON EXTREMIS A

    Extremis was, admittedly, a pretty cool planet. I mean moon. It was one of Chancellor Chyraxias's creations, designed a few years before they decided to ban this sort of thing. Basically, Extremis was once a normal grey airless moon, but Chyraxias's studio seeded it with self-reproducing machines that tunnel. These machines - Pandoricans - ate regolith and starlight and dug deeper and deeper hives and corridors, until they had grown into a colony too extensive for anyone to exterminate. The machines grew hive soldiers that defended against aggressors, and gleaming alien vaults for unknown computations. But their ambitions never grew beyond Extremis's surface. It became like a garden of fighting. A place you could, if armed, go and just explore, or just kick ass until you got your issues out of your system. We (me, Lysa, and Peri) got an internship at an outpost there in our last year before graduating the Academy. Unfortunately, while beautifully crafted, Extremis was nowhere near as popular as the newer and flashier Beveled Plains on Elysium I. In fact, that winter, Extremis was so unpopular that we were the only humans stationed in that entire hemisphere of the moon. It definitely got a little lonely.

    I once got stuck in one of the cryptovaults for like an hour during haul duty. This would really have been fine, except someone had left a box of cyberpuppies in there too, and they really were asking for attention. The ones we were testing on Extremis A were totally useless in our robosynergy tests, but they were very curious about all things informational. At that time they were gravitating to language, but they didn't really have the attention span to talk properly. I thought I was alone (i was sitting against the wall, sighing) until I heard a shuffling sound from inside the crate. I had already powered up my flash pistol and fallen into a combat stance when the lid popped open and a metallic shape flopped clumsily over the edge. 

    <Minimizing fish!> it chirped, trying to get to its feet.

    One of those nights on Extremis A I was going up the lift to check on the solar collectors. The alarm light had actually been flashing for hours; I just hadn't really felt up to dealing with anything stressful that day. I spent most of it just staying in my bunk and playing this dumb little RPG I found. Anyway, eventually I got up and pulled on my voidsuit, and up on the surface I did that surprised-dog-head-swivel reaction because sitting on top of the hangar was Peri. It was very weird to see her there because, well, I thought of the surface as _my_ place. I knew this was an illusion, because presumably all three of us saw the surface as our own secret introvert refuge, but it was a hard viewpoint to shake. We only ever came out here for deliveries and to take out the trash, so I used to think of the hard bright stars as _my_ stars. 

    Now Peri was here looking up at them, her mind clearly in a whole different spiral arm. I guess it made sense that she'd spend time here. She always needed nature to regenerate herself mentally, and I guess these stars were the only nature around on Extremis. 

    I pretended to care about the solar collectors for an awkward few minutes, but it was just one of those not-quite-talking rituals we participated in at that age. I couldn't focus on the error messages to understand if it was worth doing anything about them anyway. Eventually I gave up and moon-bounced over toward her. 

    She hadn't moved. She was so quiet those days that it kindof intimidated me. It was hard to approach her, anyway. I mean, I _got_ it, I stared at the stars too. I didn't feel like she was in a world I couldn't access. But it was hard to bring up topics like pickup lasertag, you know, when she looked at you with that Ineffable Star Vampire expression on her face.

    I scaled the side of the hangar in the low gravity. Peri, despite what I just said a second ago, turned to look at me instantly and smiled. She said something that seemed cheerful, but we weren't on the same comms channel so I just saw her lips move behind her faceplate. I tapped a button in my wrist menu.

    "Sorry, what was that?"

    "You're getting pretty good at it," said Peri. 

    "Good at what?"

    "At the wallrunning."

    "Oh. I guess. You pick it up, you know."

    After a while I realized we were sitting staring at the sky without saying anything. I had been feeling antsy around Peri a lot recently, and it surprised me a little that we could still slip into a comfortable silence like we used to. 

    "Maybe you should try on a 2J harness."

    I lay down next to her with a sigh. A 2J harness was a piece of mobility gear with thrusters that let you get an extra burst of lift while in the air. People used them for dodging bombs and javelins and stuff.

    "I'm not a Light, P. I'm a Medium. I wear a strength exoskeleton."

    "Yes, but it's not like you have a lot of heavy armor. Energy shielding doesn't weigh anything."

    I rolled my eyes. "Perihelion Yamaguchi, you're doing your thing."

    She laughed. "Am I? What, am I forgetting something obvious?"

    "No. You're coming down from the clouds."

    She put her hand on my shoulder. "Okay. Sorry, I'll stop."

    She did, too. She lay down, breathing deeply, and adjusted the optics on her faceplate. Probably zooming in on the stars. Her legs made a 45° angle with mine.

    We drifted into silence again. It really was the most annoying thing. Whenever she came suddenly out of a deep reverie she always overdid the whole _physical reality_ premise. She knew her head was still half in the imaginary world, but she overcompensated and talked to us in a really dumbed down, condescending way. 

    Restless, feeling like I had nowhere to relax, I sat up again. 

    "Okay, I know I'm being a grouch. I guess I'm doing a thing too."

    "Hannah has a thing as well?" I could hear the smile over the commlink. "Hmm ... hunching her shoulders even tho she's among friends?"

    "Ha, well. Yeah, I don't have to be so sour. I'll try to warm up a bit."

    "Yay! Good Hannah."

    I kicked her boot. "So what are you daydreaming about?"

    "Day? Oh." She spotted the sun, small and white in the black sky. "Yeah, I guess it is daytime. Well, I was just talking to the planets I haven't been to."

    "Oh, the ones you _haven't_ been to this time."

    "Oh right, I told you about that! Yes, I'm very curious about the worlds I haven't seen."

    "Are they resentful at all? I mean, do they rebuff you as a foreigner?" It was easy to slip back into Peri-mode, even tho I had been grinding my teeth about her the night before.

    "Ha! No, not at all! I mean, they're a little ... stony. They're not like people. For example, I was talking to Vega VI."

    "Oh, I see, Vega VI."

    Vega VI was an ice planet most famous for low-end hyperskiing resorts.

    "Yeah. It's a methane-sea terrestrial, so it has a mind kindof like ... like an abominable snowperson."

    "Abominable snowpeople aren't real. They're from video games. Also, I don't know what their minds are like."

    "Okay well you know. They mostly meditate but are capable of great disapproval."

    "That's not _you know_. That is definitely not common knowledge."

    "Well, they're like that. And so is Vega VI. It's focusing on its capital city right now, but there are things it disapproves of, deep down."

    "And what is the capital of Vega VI?"

    "I don't know."

    "You didn't ask?"

    "The planet doesn't speak human language."

    "Oh. Well that makes sense, actually."

    "The things it disapproves of are, like, the negative spaces between its humans."

    "Like the humans are too distant from each other?"

    "No, the opposite! The humans are not physically distant _enough_ from each other! Vega kept asking me to brainstorm how to achieve this."

    "That, um. I don't ... what did you say back?"

    "Honestly, I dodged the question," said Peri conspiratorily. "Planets say pretty weird things."

    Peri had actually been tested for psychic sensitivity back before I met her, but it came back negative. Lysa thinks the test was wrong, but I don't see it that way. Peri just knows things that everyone can know. Sometimes her perspective made more sense than this dumb Normal Life thing I kept trying to do. It confused me a lot. How do people break out of obsessions? How do people find out what they want?
