Welcome to my new blog ❀‧₊˚

I want to use this blog as a creative outlet. A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a tag called "juminocore", which brought me to an aesthetic I absolutely adore! Fun fact: my brain is so hooked on Stardew Valley, that I read it as juNimocore instead of juMinocore and I only noticed my mistake a few days ago xD soooo, i thought I want to make this the name of my blog here. Rolling at this take lmao. It’s not a bad caricature. It’s fine, actually—here’s why:

There are no personality stereotypes. Tolkien himself said the Hobbits were based on Cornish folk, so yes, Celtic connections are expected. Are the accents not quite natural? Sure, same with the Scottish accents on the Dwarfs. Is that rudeness or actor error, lmao

The Harfoots are kind, supportive, innovative, although weary of Strangers. Dirty and hungry? They seem to have plenty of food considering they all work together on gathering. On the other hand, hobbits are characterized as always having great appetites. I don’t think the hunger comes so much from lack of resources as just… that’s how they’re built. And they’re a good sight cleaner than the humans, albeit decorated with leaves and acorns for that sweet forestcore aesthetic.

LOTR was written after WWI. Class divide was a huge thing then. Men were only just leaving service for vocational work after the war. Children were only starting to be encouraged to stay in school passed the age of 12. So we have to look at the world as Tolkien would have seen it. Who would have the best elocution in this world? The people with the best education—the elves. Remember, this isn’t set in medieval times—that’s LOTR—ROP is set in the Iron Age. Most races would just be struggling to get by. Maybe if we met a human king we would find someone with a posher accent. Even posh Irish people today sound more English than Irish. But so far the class system has been entirely accurate.

My wager is whoever wrote this is entirely unfamiliar with Tolkien’s work and has no idea that the elves are closer to angels than men. Does that mean that the most powerful race in Middle-Earth should be posh English, given today’s understanding of colonization? Is English overused for fantasy settings? All of these questions are IRRELEVANT considering that *this is not an original work.* This had to be approved by the Tolkien foundation. All of this world-building *was already built* by Tolkien. And for better or worse, he was an educated English man. *This is how he would have seen the world.* If you want new ventures in fantasy world building, look to one that isn’t 90 years old.

According to the Irish Times, in the new Lord of Rings series on Amazon, the Hobbits are Irish charicatures and the Dwarfs are Scottish charicatures.

It also notes that the Men have Lancashire accents while the Elves are Upper Class British, commenting that "Somehow the Victorian caste system has been smuggled into a 21st-century American fantasy series."
