Hiccup is a prime example of that specific type of autism where you were ostracized for being different as a kid then later in life struggle to empathize with other people and are better at relating to and connecting with animals.

What I love so much about Minish Cap is how perfectly it blends the personal and universal aspects of Link's quest.

First, by explicitly binding the fate of Hyrule (Vaati's search for the Light Force) to Link's personal motivation (Zelda being his best friend and being cursed by Vaati).

It also seamlessly transitions from Link's personal quest (going to contact the Minish, which only a child can do) into a more large-scale one (reforging the White Sword, for which the help of the Minish is needed, so Link is still the best bet) to the universal scale (while Link was busy, Vaati has taken over and the only way to defeat him is the Four Sword, which Link conveniently has due to his personal quest).

But the personal and the universal quests are still the same, because saving Zelda and protecting the Light Force from Vaati are the same thing.

So, where most Zelda games either have their universal scale from the beginning (e.g. Ocarina of Time, the Oracle games, Breath of the Wild) or transition from personal scale to universal scale (e.g. Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Link to the Past), Minish Cap never really has a transition, because the two scales are perfectly melded, and it's done so well that it only really becomes noticeable in hindsight.

Like, this little blacksmith's apprentice sets out to find some foreat fairies to help un-stonify his friend, and ends up doing so much! He slays a monster that drove the people from their mine, is the first in generations to breach the gap between the Wind Tribe and the Hylians, he gains the friendship and services of Zeffa, who may very well be a descendant of the Loftwings. He brings peace to a dead King's spirit and drives out corruption from the Minish Temples.

But in all this, he never stopped being a blacksmith's apprentice on his way to un-stonify his best friend.
