Re: tumblr selling our data to AI companies.

I don't know if it's overly cynical to say, but it's nothing that all the other social media haven't done already, with more or less publicity. I see people being like, "I'm going away from Tumblr, I'll be on Instagram instead" and. Do you really think Facebook and co aren't selling all of your stuff already. They are.

The AI companies are buying a shitload of data now, I'm guessing mostly so they can say they have "legally acquired" content when the laws and lawsuits start rolling in, but they were scrapping tumblr before that. They were and are scrapping AO3 and whatever other website you use. It's disturbingly easy to get ChatGPT to write shitty omegaverse. If you ask the image AIs to give you Maedhros from the Silmarillion, they'll spit out red-haired guys - that's not because it's canon (it's not even in the Silm) but because it's been trained on our fanart.

This is undoubtedly a shitty move on Tumblr's part, I hate it, etc. This is sure as hell not a defence of them. Do toggle the toggle to "opt-out" for whatever good it's going to do. Do Glaze your art if you can, Nightshade if you can (remember that Nightshade doesn't protect shit though), I don't think either of those are the panacea I've seen them described as but it's better than nothing. But ultimately, all of our stuff online (not just art, and not just public things) has been scrapped and will be scrapped. It doesn't matter if it's on your personal website or on shitty social media.

The internet's core concept is sharing, and that involves a certain amount of goodwill on all sides of the transaction. And that goodwill, when it comes to those big companies, just isn't there. The only way to protect your art from being scrapped is to not share it anywhere.

I don't have a solution. Those models are probably going to burn themselves out eventually, but the next thing will be as bad or worse. The big companies have considered themselves above the law for years and legal frameworks are unlikely to do much. The choice is between not sharing anything and giving up on the communities that bring me joy, or accepting that my art will be stolen whatever I do. Personally I'm going to keep sharing my art on here with the people who enjoy it, and try to remember even in the worst moments of imposter syndrome that it will always be a thousand times better than whatever shitty things the AIs are sprouting by stealing it.

This isn't the solution (or even compromise) I wish I could have. I'm writing this because all the posts I'm seeing are panicking and guilt-tripping, and I've caught myself feeling guilty for still wanting to share my art even though it's going to feed the Machines(TM) and. Can we please stop that. Can we not make the artists somehow responsible for being stolen from.

What are some of the more quiet tragedies that happen in Auradon proper that we haven't heard about?

I don't know what really counts as a quiet tragedy, but

- There's a lot of prejudice and bigotry towards anyone who isn't a white cishethet able-bodied neurotypical human with "no" accent who's part of a Jesus religion who holds conservative beliefs. There's a reason almost no people who are in that very specific demographic get sent to the Isle.

- There is a major outdoor cat problem. They're killing all the small native wildlife and causing a million other issues.

- There's also a huge exotic pet problem. A lot of them end up released or euthanized because there are so few sanctuaries that can take a full-grown Silverback or tiger.

- Also, people keep getting and then discarding fish, bunnies, birds, snakes, small rodents, etc, because they're "cute" but the person quickly grows bored of them or finds out that they aren't toys and have food, space, or enrichment needs that aren't being met and they can't be bothered.

- Also, people keep taking things like coyotes, foxes, beavers, groundhogs, wild rabbits, and other medium-to-small native fauna and keeping them as "pets." This never ends well for the animal.

- People feed foxes and raccoons and stuff because they refuse to acknowledge the harm it causes. Then, when a habituated coyote tries to drag off a three-year-old because it lost its fear of humans, the animal gets killed because they're a danger.

- People keep endangering the megafauna. Stop petting the moose. That mountain lion does not want head scratches. This often results in injury or death that the animal will be killed for.

- There's a troubled teen industry to straighten out "troubled" (rebellious, curious, mentally ill, non-cishethet, or completely normal and maybe even healthy) teenagers "to stop their behavior before they get sent to the Isle." If you wants to know exactly how terrible it is in these places, check out breakingcodesilence on YouTube or on their official website.

- Kids and teenagers are not allowed to do normal kid and teenage things. Kids are expected to be perfect angel caricatures of what a child "should" be until they hit eleven or twelve, at which point they're expected to suddenly become mature adults with no room for being a tween or a teenager. There's no room for them to make mistakes without judgement. There's no real childhood.

- Mommy vloggers are a big thing

- Mommy bloggers with disabled children (like Autism Mommies (TM) or Fathering Autism) are even bigger.

- People keep trying to "cure" disabilities like autism, Down Syndrome, etc, which is usually just eugenics with a nicer name. While abortion is "illegal no exceptions," it's silently allowed if the fetus is disabled.

- Care for disabled people is terrible. Most facilities or training courses don't care about improving their quality of life, just on supporting them enough that they aren't a visible problem.

- The universal healthcare doesn't cover mobility aids or "elective" procedures such as surgery to lessen or end epileptic seizures. And that stuff is expensive as hell in Auradon.

- The "eradication of drugs" makes it hard for people to be prescribed class 1 drugs, stuff like Adderall or opium things for pain, harder for them to get refills, and they can't display any "drug-seeking" behavior (and the behavior of a person who has MS and desperately needs their pain relief or similar cases will be seen as drug-seeking.) Addicts and "addicts" will be sent to the Isle.

- A lot of disabled and mentally ill people get killed by caretakers. This is usually not reported on and the murderer gets off free due to some very ableist rhetoric.

- Rape and other sex crimes are usually not prosecuted unless the survivor is under 12 or if the case somehow already has media attention. There's a massive amount of victim-blaming in the courts and the media is not allowed to report on the trial at all unless they prosecute the perpetrator, creating an illusion of "it rarely happens but when it does, we act swiftly and harshly."

- The media rules are the same for child abuse, by the way. And elder abuse. And dependent abuse. And domestic abuse and IPV. And a lot of murder cases. And assaults. And discrimination lawsuits. And- basically any crime, really. It only happens if the court says it did but the court rarely says so.

- True crime, documentary, commentary, and criticism ThouTubers are usually banned from the platform or sent to the Isle for "dissidence." Because talking about anything without pushing Auradon's "everything is perfect" narrative is considered dissidence.

AAAAA im glad you like It! The Digital Friends AU is honestly a passion project of mine since it’s based on screenmates from the early 2000s and horror games such as Buddy Sim, KinitoPET, and Doki Doki Literature Club :)

Now as for more— let me tell you some lore tm:

As seen in my posts of this au, the se screenmates were created by two users: One named DreamXD and another named Callahan.

Nothing is known much about them, and they seemed to disappear off the face of the earth around 2005.

Cala in this AU is a shut-in, and only talks to her girlfriend and messes around with these screenmates since she randomly found the website one day while looking for old screenmates.

She is very curious about this Dream one, and the more she figures out and talks to the other screenmates she slowly reveals their “true” colors and they get more creepy and fourth wall breaky.

The first screenmate she downloads is Wilbur, and he seems to be normal! Until he starts getting obsessive and very erratic to the point where he wants her to not look at any more of the other programs and wants to be the only program she plays with.

Each DigiFriend has a unique set of games/things to do. In Wilbur’s case, there’s a rage room and a music room— but sometimes she just gets a window that has train station or sometimes she’s in the train.

It just all slowly gets creepy the more she figures out the screenmates by unlocking how they’re actually like as well as figuring about this Dream one, as well as finding out the truth of what happened to DreamXD and Callahan.

There’s so much more I want to say but that’s the basis— I might draw something with it tonight tbh bc this au sparks so much joy.

If you could create an ultimate team lineup of Pokémon that would be the best team, who would they be? Also they don’t have to be from the same Pokémon game. (Sorry if this is a weird question, I only know a little bit about Pokémon)

To start off, this is a very broad topic. there are 1025 pokémon, so i’m going to try to make a team without legendary or mythical pokémon as they tend to be overpowered. also i’m just making a team based on something i’m most likely to use, because there are so many strategies, move combos, and many many factors that make finding the “best team” essentially impossible. it’s all up to each individual person and how well they use their pokémon. so this is just tailored to me mostly!! <3

I’m not great at strats or EV and IV training, but I’ll try my best. don’t judge, I’m also partial to pokémon I like. also i’m really bad at using items so im not going to include those! please do research based on what others say and websites such as Smogon, Serebii, and Pokémon Database!

Garchomp. Ground/Dragon. Good attack and speed stats, can learn swords dance to boost attack sharply. Resistant to Electric, Fire, Poison, and Rock type attacks. Its hidden ability is Rough Skin, which does 1/8 of the attacker’s max HP upon using a physical move (i.e something like Tackle or Bite, but not like Thunderbolt or Fire Blast). Garchomp has access to moves of various types when used by TM or HM, which means that being well prepared for a fight will work very well in your favor.

Metagross. Steel/Psychic. Okay, i know, two pseudo legendary pokémon on one team. talk about unique. But Metagross pairs well with Garchomp, resisting some of its weaknesses like Fairy and Ice. It has a high attack stat and naturally very bulky, so it can tank hits, making up for slower speed due to its weight.

Gengar. Ghost/Poison. Good speed and Attack stats. It’s weak to Dark, Psychic, and Ghost types, but ghost type moves are super effective against Psychic and other Ghost types, and poison is super effective against Fairy and Grass.

4. Greninja. Water/Dark. Has great Special Attack and Speed stats. Its Water type moves are super effective against Fire, Ground, and Rock types, while it’s Dark type moves are super effective against Ghost and Psychic types. Greninja is weak to Bug, Fairy, Fighting, Electric, and Grass type moves. The other pokémon in this list counter these decently well, with Ground resisting electric, Gengar being able to learn Fire Pumch resists Grass and Bug, and Metagross’s Steel and Psychic typing counters Fighting and Fairy types.

Heracross. Fighting/Bug. It has high Attack and Special Defense stats, and a decent Speed stat. Its Hidden Ability, Moxie, raises its Attack stat by one stage (50%) each time it KO’s another Pokémon. It’s weak to Fire, Psychic, Flying, and Fairy types, all of which can be countered by this team. Heracross being a Fighting type can counter Normal type Pokémon, and Fighting is the only weakness of Normal types. Fighting is also super effective against Dark, Ice, Rock, and Steel types, while Bug types are super effective against Grass, Psychic, and Dark types.

Aegislash. Steel/Ghost. With its stance change, it can have very high Attack and Defense stats. A lot of the points i’ve said for other pokémon that have similar typing such as Gengar and Metagross stand here, and I honestly just like Aegislash. Very cool pokémon 10/10 sword

Changelog:

New documentation hub and landing page. It's included as a link to a Google Spreadsheet. While this is primarily the same as the contents of the text files, its easier on you for not having to juggle like ten tabs or whatever.

Mandatory Strength boulders have been pre-moved by default. Optional ones for items still require the HM, however.

Starters now evolve at level 30 instead of level 36. Learnset levels are adjusted for starter Chibi forms and evolved forms, including stone evolutions.

Red UFOs exchanges changed. They are now used for IV maxing NPCs near Mossdeep.

There are four NPCs with different IV spreads.

One is all 31. This is for most casual users in-game.

One is Attack 0, rest 31. This is to minimize self-damage from confusion on puppets that aren't using their Attack stat. Very min-maxy.

One is Speed 0, rest 31. This is even more niche and min-maxy than the last; the only use case for this is for purposefully slowing puppets down for Baton Pass. Gen 3 will sometimes use Baton Pass as a neutral turn switch, similar to U-Turn.

The last is Attack/Speed 0, rest 31. This is very niche and min-maxy. This is again for Baton Pass, but also minimizes confusion self-damage.

EV training NPCs in the Frontier changed. They now give 4 EVs in their listed stat per battle. This slows the process of EV training down but makes it way easier to make specialized EV spreads.

All TMs are now in Lilycove Mart, as well as the "rare" berries

Tori can now evolve into Chibi versions of the birds in the sprite

Yes, this does some absolutely ridiculous things to their movepools. blast burn mystia lets goooooooo

Tewi, Attack Tewi, and Defense Tewi can now all fully slide Attack and Defense could already slide, so this just makes it funnier. Use a Power Shard on Attack Tewi to turn her into normal Tewi, etc no advent though she can keep that movepool to herself

"Energy Ball" has, finally, been renamed to "Focus Blast"

Evolved Koishi now holds PP Up at 50% and PP Max at 5%

Reisen II buffs, finally -- Typing is now Heart/Fire -- Stats are now 65 HP, 60 ATK, 80 DEF, 130 S.ATK, 65 S.DEF, 85 Speed -- Her level-up movepool is unchanged, but she can learn a huge mess of special moves via TM now. This makes her usable if you want to, but you have to invest in her pretty heavily depending on what you may want to run -- Her primary ability is now Magnet Pull -- Gained Pickup as a secondary ability

Added another above-curve item, similar to Elder Pain and Psycho Wand -- It functions as a Quick Claw that always activates. Due to its relative ease of obtaining compared to the previous two items, there is only one way to obtain it unless playing the Sandbox version

This is actually the final update to this hack because I'm sick of binary hacking. It's tedious, slow, annoying, and things can just break. I'm tired of making multiple gigabytes of backups just because I want to change some images or text around.

This project is done! Complete, finished. There is nothing more that I can reasonably fit into this game anymore that I want to include.

I want to be done with this project.. so I am! Unless something is broken, I guess. If it literally does not function by my own fault, I'll fix it, but I'm not adding or changing anything else from this point on.

The shift to a Google Sheet is because we anticipate the current hosting, and by extension website, to go down permanently.

While backups are in place whenever a new hosting plan is picked out, this will continue to exist as a central information hub just so you don't have to thumb through multiple text files and wiki dive.

As of the time of posting this, the documentation is not 100% complete - I have yet to do level-up movesets and TM/HM compatibility, but I intend to work on that soon enough.

I had thoughts TM yesterday when I came home from the cinema, but I was too tired to write them down. Now I'm awake and these thoughts are still around, so here we go. It pretty much started off with 'why I don't really like the 2003 TMNT' but turned into a whole 'TMNT and Me' thing, so I put it under a read more. Because it's long.

So, as you know by now probably, I was born 1986. When I got older and started to watch cartoons on Saturday morning, I regularly watched the 1987 iteration of the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'. And boy I loved them. I'd get mad every time we went to visit my grandma on the weekend and I couldn't watch my favorite show. I didn't know at that time that there was a comic to it that was much darker actually.

Several years later, I got into Anime & Manga. Well, mostly Manga actually. The amount of available Manga in my country started growing around 2000. I also remember that I didn't watch that much tv because I just didn't really vibe with 2000s cartoons anymore. I think I saw glimpses of the 2003 Turtles when I zapped through channels and found them way too gritty. I couldn't really get behind why they made the Turtles that buff and rude and everything you know? People are complaining about Netflix turning children's shows all dark and gritty and how they hate this new trend, but that 'trend' started already before Netflix if you ask me. Mind you, I was no stranger to dark and serious cartoons as a kid though. We had a fair share of them. The Black Cauldron, for example. All Dogs Go to Heaven included serious topics too. And my dad let me watch Felidae when he thought 'Oh, there's a cartoon with cats for Sabine to watch', only for the cartoon to reveal that it is absolutely NOT made for kids lmao. I also watched 'Watership Down'. I mean, if you're familiar with these titles, you'll know.

But to get back to seeing the 2003 Turtles the first time, I just couldn't get behind that 'edgy action hero' vibe. So I dismissed the series and didn't follow it further. I continued reading Manga or watching Anime where available. I recall getting into series already BEFORE they got released here, Fullmetal Alchemist being a good example. YEARS later people jumped onto that train and I was already hyper-focused on other series. I spent time working on my own websites and improving my English skills over time as well. I was all over the place on the internet and met people on a website called Animexx, where I got to rp. Just a lot of stuff, I ain't going to unpack all that.

To be quite honest, I completely missed the 2012 Turtles back then. I rarely watched TV anymore around that time, I was busy with other stuff like finding my first job and all that. I finished my apprenticeship late, it was around 2011 when I did. So I had a lot of other things on my mind. I also missed Rise! pretty much on 2018. I had to move back to my parents around 2017 after I had my own apartment 2014-2017, and I was once again searching for a new job there. I recall it was a mess. I believe it was 2018 when I started working at that place I was for 5 years, the longest I worked somewhere. So, I believe it was around 2021 when I discovered Rise. And yes, I've grown much more open-minded to my 'favorite series' having a different spin to them since. I actually enjoyed Rise a lot. And it has also a special place in my heart because it did bring me back to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which I was so obsessed with as a kid. Also, I've grown very much tired with Manga & Anime at that point because there's such a FLOOD now. Around 2000, a new Manga release was something special. Now it's impossible to keep up anymore.

Not too long ago, I thought about checking the 2003 iteration of TMNT out again and stumbled over Turtles Forever. And listen, I get the point they tried to make there. The 2003 Turtles being closer to their origins, being serious and edgy and all that, whereas the 1987 Turtles have been made kids-friendly and goofy. I DO get that. But they had the '87 Turtles pretty much incompetent and obnoxious from the beginning to the finish and as someone loving the '87 boys, I took offense in that. It just didn't feel right to me how they portrayed them the way they did there. In the first and last seasons of the old TMNT series, there had been more serious tunes too. I mean come on, they aren't THAT incompetent.

*takes a DEEP breath* It can be done better, and the writers of the 2012 series proved that. They also picked up on 'the '87 Turtles were made kids-friendly and wouldn't do well in a more serious series' fact. They were also portrayed as being obnoxious in the beginning. But instead of having the 2012 Turtles act as demeaning babysitters, they trained their '87 counterparts and worked together with them. The way how the crossover ended was just a lot more wholesome to me. Plus, they included Bebop & Rocksteady and gave the boys their redemption arc there! I loved that a lot.

I'm definitely biased tho and I'm sure I will watch the '03 Turtles eventually, just like I binge-watched the 2012 ones. I mean credit where credit is due, they originally came up with Bishop and I love that guy there just as much as I love 2012's version of him (even though they are absolute polar opposites). I watched a 2003 Bishop compilation on youtube and that guy is something else. Also, I know that some of my mutuals here prefer the 2003 TMNT over the others, and let me tell you here that's perfectly fine! I know 2003 has been your childhood and I respect that. I'd love to hear about your favorite parts of it! In the end, we all love TMNT and I love talking to people about it, it doesn't matter which version. Also, a bottom line I want to share here is something that bothers me about long-time fandoms that have different iterations. I mean, I made it a point that I'm not awfully fond of the 2003 iteration all in all, but I would never go on youtube and reply to someone excitedly commenting on a 2003 video about how I think it sucks. Don't fucking do that, people. You can voice your opinion separately in your own comment and be on your way again. Don't bash and attack people for liking something you don't. It's really not that hard. I've seen posts around here on tumblr as well with questionable replies to them. Just... let others enjoy their favorite version of their series.
