nathaniel has the most followers on twitter and it gets kevin mad every time he is reminded of that fact

nathaniel has made it his mission to constantly have the most followers out of the team, and he realized that mentioning the fbi or talking about dumb stuff he did is a very good way to do it

kevin and nathaniel learnt french from jean and they use it to bother riko, who thinks they're talking shit but they're really talking about the weather

nathaniel likes scaling walls and hanging off of ceilings

kevin calls him a 'sleep paralysis demon'

nathaniel's phone autocorrected riko's name to rico and nathaniel has never changed it (which pisses riko off)

nathaniel has kevin's contact saved as kevin (exy) and jean is jean 🥖

andrew and aaron have a decently-functioning relationship with each other + the upperclassmen

nathaniel wants to break the record of most goals scored by a backliner

nathaniel's dad is presumed to be dead, and nathaniel found out about that through twitter

jean learnt english mostly through nathaniel so he knows lots of pop culture + slang, but has no clue how to use it in a sentence

riko isn't the worst person in this au (i hate him in the books dw guys). he mostly is like a bully character (bullies other ravens maybe) but between the 4 of the perfect court, he's the weird kid who never got any love as a kid.

jeremy has been friends with kevin since his freshman year (ab 4 years now) and he interacts with the other ravens through social media / background calls/texts during that entire time. he and jean have a three year age gap, and have had an obvious crush on each other for like half a year before the socmed au starts (to the point where even the fans know).

jean took a gap year so that he and natewes will be freshman together (they have a nov-jan age gap, but it's 2 different years and jean was uncomfortable playing with anyone else and didn't want to rush natewes to finish high school, so that's what they did instead.)

Hello. Especially post-tsc I am Always thinking about Kevin dealing with his grief over Riko always being wrong. He has to publicly perform this specific, palatable, lost-my-beloved-brother grief. But in private, that grief is wrong because Riko was evil. Everyone around him is celebrating the monster is gone and can't sympathize. The mix of freedom/grief. Wow he needs Bee right now.

OH GOD YEAH

because i know there’s a part of him that feels the truth in his “lost my beloved brother” grief. i have to believe that. regardless of how “good” their childhood together actually was or not, after spending so much of their life side-by-side at the bare minimum he must’ve had this sort of… stockholm syndrome type love for Riko. even if they didn’t have their “childhood best friend” moments that i like to dream of, they’ve spent their whole lives pretending those moments existed regardless. Riko was a constant in his life for so long, when nothing else was constant except for exy, so he had to feel real grief somewhere.

which makes it all worse. because he feels that relief too. he’s glad he’s gone. he’s the last person that told him he couldn’t and look what happened to him.

Kevin’s grief for Riko is so deep and complex and colourful and terrible it’ll always drive me crazy. he loves him he hates him i’m a broken record with it but it’s like the baseline for his entire being is just suddenly missing now, and that lifelong competition doesn’t exist anymore, and that fear and anxiety related to Riko left with him. but it didn’t really, did it?

So since some of y'all are posting some major mischaracterization of Kevin and Jeans relationship in TGC I thought I would come on here and set the record straight(haha) on what I have been seeing from my perspective on what was revealed in this series and some thoughts i just wanna yap about and hear y'alls thoughts on:

!!!SPOILERS SO BEWARE!!!

Brothers, friends, teammates, or partners: (+ what's revealed about their relationship from TGR and why I disagree with a few takes I have seen on here, that try to define their relationship as anything, when its complicated and undefinable to Jean himself.)

Since folx are taking things literally, I think it's important to note and remember that most things Jean says about him and Kevin's relationship is a lie. A lie that they had to keep up to separate themselves in the nest and from Rikos rage.

That being said, when he says that Kevin is not his friend, it leads me to interpret that is a knee-jerk reaction that was trained into him to deny because of the Nest. (I do not think he is a friend, because at this point I dont even think Jean knows what one is, or would say he has any).

We also are shown that when Jean feels emotional and is about to share what he shouldn’t he self harms to stop himself and control what he says. Which he does here as well when pressed further about Kevin being his friend or partner and his feelings toward him:

he repeats what he most likely was forced to say over and over as Riko and the master beat him for Kevins whereabouts.

I also do think he means it when he says he wanted Kevin to die, both of them saw no escape from the nest and from the abuse, the only way out they ever saw was death. They both clearly made a pact, my personal theory based on what Jean has said is that If he dies, it has to be by Kevin and no one else in (TSC):

Their relationship is too complicated for other characters in the series to understand, and though it hurts Jean when Kevin calls him, his brother, I think it truly is how Kevin categorizes their relationship. I also think that Kevin's view of Aaron and Andrews relationship also influences how he labels their relationship(I can dive into that at a later time).

Though Jean says he hates Kevin multiple times throughout the series, he never defends himself when Kevin calls him out on that lie. So also saying that he feels just hatred or animosity toward Kevin, feels incorrect as well.

So I think the ball is in Jean's court for how he wants to define their relationship. Something, to my knowledge he has not done yet. He either deflects or says 'no' to whatever label people use.

Kevin victim blames/ denies Jeans abuse:

Jean(our beloved unreliable narrator) is still living in the Nest mentally at this point in the series, and is still falling back on Raven conditioning which impacts how he sees Kevin and how their relationship plays out between them. A relationship where they had to hide their abuse from everyone but each other as stated in TSC:

Kevin, refuses to deny what happened to Jean to those he cares about, or deny his importance to him, but respects what Jean wants to share with others, which is the only reason he ever lies or hides information about Jean.

Jean does as well, in TSC when Thea demands he explains, he does not tell Kevin's story, all he says is "believe him." In this scene he is also trying to distract Thea from asking about the S/A, so do not take it out of its context, it is just important to note how he will always admit that Kevin was abused, but will not break his trust by sharing his story in the same way that Kevin does for him.)

When Kevin calls the S/A "history," its part because he is unaware of the full truth as is stated by Jean in TSC:

And more importantly because he does not know what Jean has shared with Jeremy and will not break his trust.

Now this scene being argued about the most in TGR has some of the most worst misinterpretations that I have seen, and I think its because people don't remember that Kevin has had more time to be seperate from the nest and adjust to the "normal world", so people don't notice the way he also still has the same fucked up views as Jean regarding the world. He also, up until a few months prior in the series, was still under/fighting the master/riko ownership of him.

When he does talk about the S/A, he is explaining how they justified their (the ravens/ riko) actions because they had no other choice. It was their reality and the rules with which they had come to accept about the world, not that he personally is justifying it.

What he says here is important:

We also learn later, that Kevin did try and defend Jean. And the conversation highlighted above, implies he tried to bring up reporting it to Jean, but he would not.

At this point, Kevin does not know what Jeremy knows in this moment, because Jean will not even discuss it fully with Kevin when he brings it up, so he is unaware what Jeremy knows of the S/A. He also still refuses to break Jean's trust so he censors himself (acknowledged by Jeremy as well in this conversations):

-Kevin saw how the Ravens reacted in the aftermath. He knew none of them would even defend him (even Thea would write away their abuse while it was happening, as is seen when she confronts Jean in TSC).

-When he is stating that the age of consent is 16, what he is telling Jeremy, is that even if he wanted to go and report it, the only person who could have was Jean. Not that he thinks Jean was old enough to consent.

Also important is what Jean says in a previous chapter + when he talks to Andrew, you can see how both Kevin and Jean literally almost echo each others words/ perspective on things: (sorry about the bad highlighting)

Here he is talking about himself not Jean's justice (which i saw floating around as if that was how Kevin felt about Jean reporting things...) :

Does that mean Kevin would stand by Jean if he ever wanted to testify? We won't know yet, but based on my interpretation and the only other proof we have seen of him defending victims (testifying on behalf of Andrew and Aaron during the court case, a scene which it is implied by jeremy heavily affected him), I am going to say yes.

Important to note: Kevin knew and has stated that if he spoke out against the Ravens they would hurt Jean. He was also restrained by that fear. Which is why the time he finally lets himself loose, is only after Jean is safely with him and the foxes and he knows that Riko can't reach him. Even Jeremy, notes a difference since Jean was finally out of the nest:

Things I feel it's important to mention and consider when looking at their relationship:

-They both are invested in each other getting better.Kevin willingly agreed to share all his trauma with Betsy so that she can help Jean. Kevin, willingly tells her everything horrific he endured in the small chance that it would make Jean feel safe enough to talk to her and get better. But I don't think we should ignore Jean's confrontation with Kevin about his drinking.

-Kevin also respects every time Jean tells him to leave or stop. We see this in the TSC and again in TGR:

-The minute Jean is actually uncomfortable we see Kevin back off. Yes he is bossy, rude, and invited himself into Jeans space, but that is also a reversal/familiarity of their time spent together. The minute Jean says no, Kevin respects it. (I have a lot to say about the coffee grabbing, and my the amount of times Kevin grabs his hands whenever he senses Jean's distress, throughout the series, but that will be a later date)

-The few times they ever get physically violent it is Jean who initiates it first. I would argue that Jean slips into his past role as well, throughout their interactions just as much as Kevin does.

-Kevin defending Jean during the interview, and keeping Jeremy's promise.

Last thoughts:

Jean himself, never denies the abuse that Kevin faced, in fact the only few times he is willing to mentally acknowledge the abuse, its when he is referencing the psychological and physical abuse and games Riko played on him and Kevin. So... If Jean himself does not deny that Kevin was abused as well, why do y'all remove Kevin's actions from that context??

Now I'm not condoning either of their thoughts or behaviors, its fucked up, and it's meant to be frustrating that they both could say this about themselves and each other. But Nora's books are meant to be re-read, because they often have so many small easter eggs and deeper meanings that aren't revealed until later.

Please proceed with some reading comprehension and understanding that these characters are all messy and traumatized and do things that you won't morally agree with, that just makes them a well written character.

I'm going to omit Sailor Moon: The Super Live from this ranking because it wasn't recorded. I'm also going to omit Yui Yokohama & Sufa from the London version of The Super Live, even though I saw it, but since many didn't get a chance to watch it, I'm leaving it out. (If I had to place them I would put them behind Anza & Mizuki Sano. )

I also can't rank Riona Tatemichi and Riko Tanaka because it feels like they don't have a single scene together.

Don't forget that this is all my opinion.

Ranking:

16th place: Satsuki Sugawara & Tenju Mitsuki

Satsuki is my least favorite Moon, and I find Tenju Mitsuki as Mamoru very tiring. I find Tenju overacts a lot, and it just bothers me. I just don't see any chemistry.

15th place: Fumina Hara & Yuuta Enomoto

They only appear together in one musical, and they don't have many shared scenes. (Shin Densetsu Kourin is also my least favorite musical), but in the few moments they do share, I don't see any connection. I don't think their voices fit together very well either.

14th place: Riko Tanaka & Riku Sorahane

It's the same problem as with Fumina and Yuuta. Only here, I think potential was wasted. Unfortunately, the original doesn't offer many shared moments, so the focus is more on Luna and Kakeru. I find the few moments they have together are very sweet.

13th place: Hotaru Nomoto & Yuga Yamato

Yes, there's a big age difference, the biggest of all—almost 20 years. Yuga's portrayal of Mamoru is very uncharacteristic. Unfortunately, Mamoru doesn't have much stage time in Amour Eternal and Le Mouvement Final, especially in Le Mouvement Final. Perhaps the two fare a bit worse than Satomi and Yuga because I generally prefer Satomi as Moon...

12th place: Nagi Inoue & Tenju Mitsuki

Another couple that only appears in a musical. I think Nagi is better as Moon than Satsuki, and I think she handles Tenju's overacting better. Their voices fit together better. It's especially clear during the curtain call that the two seem to get along well. Nagi kisses Tenju. Tenju hugs Nagi. I think it would have been even better without Tenju's overacting.

11th place: Satomi Okubo & Yuga Yamato

I already said in the Moon actress ranking that I like the two of them together better than Hotaru & Yuga. I don't know exactly why, but I think they work better together. Maybe because they have more scenes together than Hotaru and Yuga. For example, the Silver Millennium scene, the scene with King Endymion where Usagi find out that Chibiusa is her future daughter (which I find very funny), they not fight over Haruka.

10th place: Marina Kuroki & Gyo Miyamoto

You guessed it three times...that's right. This Usagi Mamoru couple also only appears in a musical. A lot of people don't seem to like Gyo, but I do. Maybe it's the age difference again, since the dynamic isn't as good. Unfortunately, a very good Usagi Mamoru moment from the original was omitted from the remake. That's why "You Are My Jewelry" is missing.

9th place: Marina Kuroki & Yuu Shirota

I know this is an unpopular opinion, and I'll probably get hated for it. I don't want to blame the two actors, but there's no chemistry between them. Also, Mamoru is very poorly written and says some very mean things to Usagi. The only reason they don't fare worse is because their voices stand out. The best ones sound incredible together.

8th place: Sayuri Inoue & Mikako Ishii

Sayuri is a good Moon and can sing very well. But she's very shy, and I got the feeling she wasn't comfortable with Mikako. Her discomfort is especially noticeable in the scene in Moonlight Densetsu where Mikako kisses Sayuri. Although Mikako speaks very positively about her.

7th place: Shiori Kubo & Mikako Ishii

They have some really good moments together, especially the hug in Moonlight Densetsu. One scene I'd like to highlight is the scene where Tuxedo Mask reveals his true identity. This execution is definitely the best of all five versions. Mikako also says she's glad Shiori was her moon.

6th place: Anza Ooyama & Mizuki Sano

Another couple that only appears in a musical. I really like the two of them together, especially the scene where Mamoru tries to comfort Usagi, the Silver Millennium scene, and the scene where Mamoru dies. It's a shame they didn't stay together longer. But we got a really good Usa and Mamo couple afterward.

Top 5 begins:

I can't decide between 5th and 4th place. So you can swap them as you wish.

5th place: Fumina Hara & Hironari Amano

I would have loved to see them together longer. The story gives us more insight into their civil relationship. It's beautiful, and some moments are quite funny. Plus, the two of them sing my favorite Usagi and Mamoru love song, "You're My Jewelry."

4th place: Marina Kuroki & Kenji Urai

Marina is much younger than Kenji, but it's not as noticeable. Together they sound like I imagine Usagi and Mamoru. They work perfectly as a comedy duo. Kenji also handles Marina's overacting best. Mamoru is also written much better than in later musicals. Unfortunately, they only sang "You're My Jewelry" in a fankasha. I would have liked to have seen a version in a regular musical.

Top 3: The top 3 is already known from a previous post but I didn't say anything more about it.

Top 3: Miyuki Kanbe & Hidemasa Edo

Miyuki doesn't have another tuxedo mask, and I'm glad for that. They have good chemistry and work perfectly in both funny and serious moments. They also fit together perfectly vocally. (not to forget Miyuki is my favorite Moon.)

Top 2: Anza Ooyama & Yuuta Mochizuki

But back to the first stage. It's no secret that the two have a deep connection. This is still true today, almost 30 years later. I do think Yuuta is a bit too old for Mamoru, but that doesn't matter. Especially in the later story arcs, their relationship has matured. The two even hugged and kissed in several musicals. Their voices fit together.

But there can only be one top 1. It's probably an unpopular opinion, but whatever.

Top 1: Mizuki Yamashita & Mikako Ishii

The little subtle things make them the best Usagi Mamoru couple for me. I've seen this version so many times, but I discover something new every time. I could go through every scene with the two of them and find something in each one, be it just a small smile, a glance, or a a slight touch. Also, of all of Nogizaka Moon's and Mamoru's, their voices fit together the best. Their "Memory Ai no Kioku" is so emotional you'd think they were serious. And let's not forget the kiss in Moonlight Densetsu. Mizuki apparently had no problem with that. (It apparently wasn't the only one either; there's a photo of them kissing in the Silver Millennium scene.) It's such a shame they only have one musical together, and that's one of the reasons why Team Moon 2018 is my favorite version.

•Neil Josten uses social media after canon.

^ he posts the most vague shit ever and dark humor posts. He also has an anonymous hate page full of Riko Moriyama being clumsy or clips from the game where he lost against the foxes.

^^ he uses audios on TikTok and other socials that imply he’s fallen for someone he was on a team with and just lets the fan base assume it was Matt bc the whole Andrew/Neil rivalry. He likes to see reactions.

•Andrew starts to do art to express himself.

^He has a few anonymous art accounts throughout a few platforms and posts like twice a week on each. Hes really popular on TikTok and insta.

Back to the UN universe , chapter 16 was so frustrating to witness. Why is OC punishing is all by being distant . But thank you so so so so much for the ask!!!! Honestly, quite a bit has changed about Kyo and her dynamics since I've been working with my brother and throwing more magical girls into the mix, so I'll respond with how she is in her current iteration!

1) What Magia Record character would/could your OC be good friends with?

Kyo unfortunately is still not one to have super close friends, however I could definitely see her having mad respect for Karin (while she was still in her stealing grief seeds phase) since Kyo basically does the same thing lmao

As Kyo gets softer and more willing to accept that hey, maybe being friends with people isn't a super terrible thing and I don't have to hold my cards so close to my chest all the time she would probably have a soft spot for any of the younger magical girls. Nagisa, Riko, Yuma, etc. And because of Riko's proximity to Ashley, they'd probably get along too.

Also I'd like to mention here that I jokingly ship Kyo with Ria because I just think it would be very funny

2) What Magia Record character would your OC HATE?

I know I just said that Kyo has a soft spot for the younger magical girls, but she would probably hate Touka's guts lol

There's a character within the story I'm making with my brother that really reminds me of Touka too, super smart child prodigy who is insufferable because they know they're smarter than everyone else in the room. And Kyo hates her so that translates well to Touka lol

Probably wouldn't like Kanagi for a similar reason, she's not a fan of authority. Even though Kanagi most definitely is chill, Kyo would just be rubbed the wrong way knowing that she's such a big shot in the magical girl community. If they talked for a bit though they could probably come to an understanding.

4) Would your OC have joined the Wings of Magius if given the chance? Why or why not?

Oh, most definitely. Kyo hates authority, but loves taking the easy way out of situations more. I doubt she would ever meet the Magius face to face, so she's safe from the headache that would come from being in the same room as them lololololol

6) How does your OC feel about Mirrors? Do they avoid it, go there to practice, or want to solve its mysteries-- or do they have a different motivation?

Kyo would avoid Mirrors like the plague lmao

She'd go a couple times to get a feel for it, thinking maybe since she also has powers related to the distortion of perception (she just has illusion powers) she'd have a sense of understanding of how mirrors worked. That view quickly crumbled the first time she saw a clone of herself, and then left and never looked back.

1)like or dislike? riko's the character i fought long and hard not to like but did not succeed in. i thought it would be way to predictable if i liked YET ANOTHER royally messed up character who really sucks. (for my previous track record, see: ianthe tridentarius) there's something about characters like that that just appeals to me. makes me want to pat them on the head, give them a fruity little drink and put them in 1000 hours of mandatory therapy. or give him all the power he ever wished for (but cannot handle). or put him up against someone who is both better at what he does and much, much worse. but what really sealed the deal for me is that i'm a contrary bastard and every bit of riko hate i saw in the fandom had the exact opposite intended effect.

8) something the fandom does with riko that i despise. if i could get serious for a quick sec? using riko as an excuse to be a dick to people? not cool. if people could cut that shit out, that'd be really appreciated. but on an unserious note, i'm done pretending riko isn't also very shippable. i feel like the fandom has been trying to convince me riko is not very shippable and i've decided i don't know what the fuck they're on about.

I lift my impossibly heavy arm and shove my hand into my pocket. - Oh no, sweetie,” he coos, taking my cell phone, ”you don't want to bother your mommy. - The cell phone goes to the other side of the couch.

- What do you want from me? - I ask in a hoarse voice.

- From you? Nothing. That's why you won't be here long, sweetheart. - he says sweetly. - The dope in your drink and the end of the needle will do all the dirty work for me.

I realize I shouldn't have left Fox Tower today when it's too late. You're a fucking asshole, Rico …

He gets up off the couch. I try to reach for my phone. Rico shoves it between the seat and the armrest.

- Oops! - He exclaims and smiles. Scary. Only psychopaths smile like that. - Say hello to Satan. - Rico pulls up the sleeve of his jacket. - You'll probably go to Hell, you fucking junkie. If there is one…” he says thoughtfully. - So long! - he throws up his hand to say goodbye. He pulls his hood up to his eyebrows, tilts his head so he won't be recognized, and heads for the door.

Fucking asshole… My head feels heavy, like it's filled with lead. My stomach is convulsively clenching. I think I'm about to be… I try to turn my head, but my neck feels stiff. Vomit rushes up my throat. My whole fucking life flashes before my eyes - the orphanage, the bad foster homes, the schools changing like a glove, college, university, Exy, Allison. Everything erases except the blonde femme fatale. I see the first time I met her - she'd had a lot to drink, being dragged to the car by two guys. I talked them out of it. She slept on my bed. Woke up and dryly thanked me for not letting her lose her honor. She left. There was a thin trail of perfume behind her, which I never smelled again - she got rid of it, as if it would help her forget that nightmarish evening….

I remembered our fights, every single one of them. I remembered how she'd screamed when she found out I was on pills. How she dragged me every time I was on the edge.

…How we cuddled that morning.

…How we had sex.

…Her smile, her blue eyes, her silky blond hair…..

My eyes went dark. My throat closed with vomit and foam. Body convulsively twitching. Heart pounding like a madman. My brain is shutting down. I don't have more than a minute to live.

Overdose. Fucking overdose. She told me I'd end up like this if I didn't stop. And I didn't believe it. And she was right. Every time.

I never noticed I thought about this but here we go:

• Matt has the deepest voice among the foxes. Like the type of voice that just makes you feel warm and safe

• Seth's is nasal. 100%. It's on the brighter side.

• Andrew's is on the brighter side as well and gets higher when he's medicated. It's quite similar to Aaron (which is expected) but he tends to talk slower and enunciate better. It tends to be scratchy because of smoking

• Aaron's on the brighter side too, but he talks quite fast and tends to mumble when he's annoyed. He also has a noticeable Californian accent still, whereas Andrew has erased his (consciously or not)

• Neil's is a tad deeper than Andrew's. It's not high but it's far from deep. His 'true' accent is still a mystery to most but I feel like he has a slight British one on certain words (like he would use pavement instead of sidewalk) (just like one of those things he tried to get rid off to blend in better but unconsciously it's still there)

• Kevin has a deep voice as well, quite flat after years in the nest except when he lies. Then it'll get higher and quite animated which he never noticed

• Nicky is DEFINITELY on the bright side. Even when he's sad, Nicky tries to sound happy. It comes from the chest. It's the type where he'll just huff and people know it's him

• Allison's on the deeper side as well (for a woman at least). It gets higher at the end of sentences when she's laughing. It's a Disney villain type of voice. She could honestly record a podcast or audiobook. That's the type of voice she has

• Dan has a slightly nasal voice (something that she hates a bit) because of a deviated septum (after she got down playing exy in high school) but Matt finds it extra cute

• Renée's natural voice is high but she's been trying to sound more calm since she got adopted by Stephanie (I feel like that's why Neil is suspicious of her as well)

• Wymack has a slightly deep voice that gets high and dry quickly when he raises it. He sounds from NJ to me for some reason (as does Nathan. Why? I don't know). It's also scratchy, like a smoker type of voice

• Bee's calm. I don't know if it's bright, high, deep, scratchy. She just sounds calm and composed and reassuring. She rarely raised it

• Abby's bright. Like the brightest you've ever heard. She doesn't like it all that much, but what can you do

• I never really thought about Riko's. It just sounds cold and harsh and demanding

• Jean has a Marseille accent. Like quite a heavy one. (if you've never heard Marseille accents, go check it out I swear). Even after years in the nest, the accent is not going away. It's on the deepish side and is quite nice overall. He talks at 'normal' speed except when he's throwing out insults in french. My guy spews this with a speed you've never witnessed anywhere else

I'm so curious about voice HCs for the foxes. . especially andreil. . I think Neil's is smooth and slightly higher pitched, maybe a bit prone to subtle voice cracks when he gets loud. . Andrew's is deeper and lower, he enunciates all his words (though when he was medicated he'd project more and enunciate a bit more theatrically, drawing out letters etc etc). Kevin's is deep and strong, very authoritative, also enunciates his words. Aarons slightly higher than Andrew's, talks a bit on the fast side, and kind of mumbles when he talks. Nicky's very boisterous, kind of an average timbre and his voice goes up at the end of a lot of his sentences. Renee's is also very smooth and a bit on the airy side, very sweet but not condescending. Allison's is slightly on the deeper side and ever so slightly (like very slightly) gravelly. Dan has a higher voice, and she naturally projects when she speaks. Matt has a deep voice but it's pretty quiet- though it can be loud when he needs to.

I'd love to hear other people's opinions so I can refine mine (and if ppl have examples whew even better)
