To follow up on your answer about human-peafowl relations, how does someone like Bug, who basically demanded to be raised by you, fit in? Will she be just a very Ked-friendly hen, or will she be somehow very different from the other girls?
She'll be a little socially awkward, but she will get along, and the longer she's out there once she's a full-time-outside bird, the easier it will be, especially when her adult hormones arrive. Artemis was also raised by me, and she's a little awkward as well, but she gets along fine with the others and she's not even interested in fitting in the way Bug is. Bug may not have wanted to be left with the other babies when she first hatched, but she is very interested in the other birds now, she plays with her siblings through the fencing and she defers to the bigger birds like she learned to when she was a baby. We spent a LOT of time out in the bird pens when she was very little, so while she was raised by me, she also got to experience Being A Bird from a few days old. And we do still go out into all of the pens together, and she gets to spend time being chased around by the big birds or watching them from beside me, and hanging out near them while I free range a pen. She'll always be a little Different, having been to the realm of the fae so to speak, but it shouldn't inhibit her from fitting in.

What fic tropes do you most want to see for bucktommy?
big fan of hurt/comfort and some angst, which i think we will get.
i want them to be settled in their relationship and be solid and be each other's home, and then comes the angst, but not in a way that threatens their relationship, more like: one of them gets hurt on the job for physical hurt/comfort - i would love to see tommy get hurt actually, and buck stays at his place to take care of him; proof that this capable brickhouse of a guy is not invincible. and he struggles to let himself be taken care of, and evan helps him realise that he has people who care about him - not just buck; maybe eddie visits! chim! hen! he's been on his own for so long he's quite self sufficient but buck isn't having it; this allows for some first fight potential, where tommy insists he can do it himself (bc he doesn't want to be a burden or seem weak) and buck being frustrated and a little hurt that tommy doesn't want him in his space or want his help, which makes buck feel like he's being too much and caring too much.. but they work it out! but maybe before they do we get chim/hen/eddie paying tommy a visit to check on him but moreover spend time with him and also talk things out a bit; tommy realising it's okay to let people in (chim would be perfect for this callback).
and tommy dealing with his asshole father for some emotional hurt/comfort - i just really want to see a less coolcalmcollected tommy, and i think buck seeing that and being there for him and tommy realising he has someone to lean on will strengthen their relationship.
and early season 8 with gerrard in charge is perfect for some emotional support and understanding: tommy being there for buck as he vents. and tommy confronting gerrard (not just about his treatment of evan and the 118 but about who he is and how he does not deserve to be a captain at all) which doesn't go well and brings up a lot of issues for tommy (his past self, his father and upbringing, etc) and results in him being riled and losing some of that cool calm composure buck is so used to - maybe we get buck finding tommy at the gym, or tommy and eddie doing muay thai because tommy needs the release. and eventually we get buck calming him down or tommy running out of steam and breaking down a little.
(this is all very tommy-centric i know, i just want more of him! more screentime! more emotional variation! more character and relationship growth!)
and as much as i want them to be a solid couple, i want there to be moments of uncertainty: jealous buck when he sees tommy is friendly with one of his exes or sees a guy flirting with tommy. tommy being so sure about a future with evan -has never been more sure of anyone in his life- but holding himself back because he doesn't want to move too fast for both their sakes - but he opens up by the end of the ep and it culminates in him asking evan to move in with him.
open and honest communication is integral to their relationship so i don't really want to see any secret keeping, but i could see one of them keeping a secret about the gerrard/ortiz drama to spare the other one worry or to keep them out of the crosshairs. but it won't be a lingering issue, preferably sorted in an ep or two.
also just: gimme friendship for tommy! gimme tommy and chim and hen and eddie hanging out (separately or together) because we know they're friends. gimme tommy and karen, tommy and maddie brunch dates - with jee! gimme tommy babysitting jee and the others! would also love to see some of tommy's coworkers and friends. basically let tommy have some platonic relationships because it's important to show he has a place in the 118 extended family even when evan isn't in the mix, and that he has a life outside the 118 too.
since tommy is a first responder i think it's a safe bet we'll see him working with the 118 at some point - lafd is linked from the streets to the skies - maybe buck doing a rope rescue out of the chopper or tommy rescuing buck and some civilians from a cliffside or highrise. maybe the 118 responding to a chopper crash. so many scenarios they could give us, and i want tommy working with the rest of the 118, too.

me, you, our kid and a dog
the dog fic is finally here! fluff, getting together, first kiss, reluctant dog dad Eddie, all three of them being adorable lol ❤️
words: 4.7k
[read on Ao3]
“You’re getting a dog?” Hen asks, piecing together the few sentences she’s heard. “As in… together? “Yeah.” Buck grins, opening his own locker as well “We’re not getting a dog. “But Eddie!” Buck almost whines, and, god, Eddie would give him anything he asked for, but he’s also stubborn, and he decided something already, he can’t just go back. Besides, does he really want to be stuck taking care of a pet on a rare occasion Buck’s at his loft? “Uh, you don’t even live together.” Hen notices, confused, a frown on her face. “Or have we missed something?” she and Chim exchange a look that Eddie doesn’t wanna look into. He’s already pretty sure he’s wearing his heart on his sleeve, and everyone knows how he feels, he doesn’t need confirmation. “No, but it just makes sense.”
______
It starts as a random remark on a sunny Sunday afternoon when the three of them are at the park. They’re just taking a walk, with the goal of getting ice-cream from the best ice-cream place in the city, according to both Buck and Chris – which is just an ice-cream stand in the middle of the park.
There’s a lot of people around, strolling and talking just like them, or having picnics, or walking their dogs… and that last thing is what starts a conversation.
Because a big dog runs up to Buck – Eddie’s not even surprised at how every single breathing creature, human or otherwise, is just enamored with Buck, he’s used to it – and he stops to pet it with the brightest smile. Meanwhile, the owner, a young girl probably in her early twenties, catches up and apologizes profusely, saying that the dog tugged the leash out of her hand, and assures that it’s friendly and it’s safe to pet her – which is what Buck’s already doing, anyway.
“Hey, pretty.” he coos, crouching down, both hands petting the dog’s head, while it pants happily, tongue out.
“Can I pet her, too?” Christopher asks, giving Eddie the most adorable pleading expression, and Eddie just can’t say no.
“Of course. Just be careful.” Eddie says and watches as Chris walks closer to Buck, who holds one of his crutches to prevent it from falling, when Christopher hurries to pet the dog with the brightest smile. This close, the dog is almost at his height, and Eddie gets a little anxious, but doesn’t let his overprotectiveness take over. Buck’s right there, there’s nothing to worry about.
“She’s so soft.” Chris comments, and the dog licks his face, making him giggle.
They stand there for a long minute, before Eddie apologizes to the girl for keeping her there, and she laughs and says it’s okay. Chris tells the dog it was nice to meet her, and gazes after her wistfully, when the girl finally walks away.
“You really shouldn’t pet strangers’ dogs.” Eddie mutters to Buck once the girl is out of earshot.
“She said it’s fine.” Buck whispers back.
“Not before you already pet it.” Eddie gives him a look. “Just saying, you should be more careful.”
“Next time I will.” he rolls his eyes, as they start walking towards the ice-cream stand again, conversation picking up where they left off.
“I wish we had a dog.” Christopher says suddenly, interrupting Buck mid-sentence, and it surprises Eddie a bit. He’s never mentioned it before, and Eddie’s never thought about a pet, and he doesn’t know how to discourage him from that, or how to say no without breaking his son’s heart. Because there’s no way they’re getting a dog.
“Man, I always wanted a dog growing up.” Buck says wistfully, and, well, now Eddie’s screwed. “My parents never agreed, though.”
“We should get a dog together.” Christopher says, looking at Buck with a wide smile, and Eddie has to step in before they start planning and saying no will become even more heartbreaking.
“I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
“Dad! Why?” Chris pouts and stops to look at Eddie with those eyes that make any ‘no’ almost impossible to pass his lips.
“Yeah, dad, why?” Buck joins in, and his pout is almost equally irresistible. Eddie is not in the strongest position here. If he wasn’t absolutely convinced of his decision already, he’d fold immediately. And he feels like if they keep talking about this, they might just change his mind. He won’t have this.
“I promise I’ll walk him and feed him, and Buck will help!” Chris says, now stopping and turning towards Eddie.
“Eddie, come on.” Buck shoves his arm lightly.
“You guys are serious? You actually want a dog?” Eddie looks between them, and they nod, matching pouts on their faces. Shit, he’s not gonna fall for it. “No.”
“But-”
“No.” he repeats firmly, his heart breaking a little at his son’s defeated expression. “We all know that you will take care of it for a minute, and then it’ll fall on me, at least when Buck’s not home.” he adds quietly, not missing how he accidentally made it sound like Buck’s living with them, realizing that he’d love that more than anything, but choosing to ignore this for now, because he doesn’t have time for an am-I-in-love-with-my-best-friend freak out again (they happen more frequently than he’d like to admit lately, and he thinks he has the answer already anyway). “Or probably on Carla when we’re at work.” he continues. “And she’s not getting paid to take care of a dog.”
“There’s dog sitters.” Buck murmurs, and Eddie shoots him a look. They’re not made of money, for god’s sake. But then he sees tears in Chris’ eyes, and almost relents. Almost.
“Listen, it’s a no for right now, alright? But let’s revisit this conversation when you’re a little older?” Eddie asks, and Chris immediately lights up.
“How old?” he asks, and Eddie shares a look with Buck. Then, he looks back at his ten-year-old, and answers:
“Thirteen.” because it seems like a reasonable age where he’ll be able to actually take care of a pet, and also, a lot can happen in three years, maybe he’d want a different, more low-maintenance pet. Eddie could do a goldfish, for example.
“Fine.” Christopher relents, and looks at Buck. “We can wait three years.”
“Yeah.” Buck responds, a soft and surprised smile on his face. Like he still doesn’t believe they want him in their lives permanently, and he’s not expecting them to make such long-term plans involving him. “We sure can.”
“Just, we’re clear that we’ll have the conversation then, right? Not that we’re actually getting a dog?” Eddie adds, not wanting them to get too excited. He knows Buck could just get a dog on his own, it’s not like he lives with them (sadly), though as far as Eddie remembers, pets aren’t allowed in his building. But even if he could, Eddie’s pretty sure they’d still make this decision together. He doesn’t know exactly when it happened, but their lives became so intertwined it should be scary. It’s not, though. Buck is his partner, at and outside of work. In almost all the ways Eddie wants him to be.
“Sure.” Buck says dismissively, with a chuckle, like he knows they already won. Eddie really doesn’t like when they team up against him, because that’s usually how it ends, with them winning. They’re his two biggest weaknesses, they have an advantage separately, and together? Eddie’s surprised he managed to say no right now.
Then they continue their walk, Chris a little bit in front of them, starting a new topic, now wondering what ice-cream flavor he should get, while Buck throws his arm around Eddie’s shoulder, and Eddie feels like his whole body is burning. To anyone else they must look like a family, a couple and their kid. Eddie hates how comfortable he is with that, and how much he’d actually want that to be true. Maybe he’s coming to terms with his feelings for Buck, because now, thinking about wanting to hold his hand and kiss him, and spend the rest of their lives arguing about getting a dog while living together – it doesn’t make him freak out or panic. He feels settled. He’s smiling, and he’s content, and he wants countless more afternoons like this with his boys.
But for now, the dog conversation is over, for at least three years.
Or so Eddie thinks. And, boy, is he wrong.
Because from then on, the topic of dogs and pets is being brought up constantly over the next couple of weeks.
Mostly small mentions, Buck and Christopher talking about the kind of dog they want – a breed wasn’t specified yet, but definitely a big one, which prompts Eddie to wonder how Chris wants to walk it without the dog pulling on the leash and tripping him. Not that there’s gonna be any dog, that’s not happening.
And then, after a few days, the conversation extends to outside of home, when Buck drives them to work – because he stayed over, like he does pretty frequently, sharing the bed with Eddie because he’s not gonna sleep on the couch – they’re best friends, it’s normal. Or so Eddie’s trying to convince himself to avoid freaking out.
The whole drive over, Buck’s trying to convince Eddie to change his mind, and is still talking about it as they’re walking into the locker room, where Hen and Chimney already are.
“-and you have a backyard, which is just perfect-” Buck continues, not even bothering to say hi to their friends.
“It’s not big.” Eddie points out, opening his locker.
“But it’s enough! And we can build a doghouse together, that’d be so much fun!” he says excitedly, and when Eddie looks at him and sees his sparkling eyes and that smile, he almost gives in. “And I’ll take care of it all the time, too, you know I will.”
“Buck.” Eddie tries to be stern and wants to shut it down for now. They’re at work.
“You’re getting a dog?” Hen asks, piecing together the few sentences she’s heard. “As in… together?”
“Yeah.” Buck grins, opening his own locker as well.
“We’re not getting a dog.”
“No, but it just makes sense.” Buck shrugs, taking off his t-shirt in one smooth motion, and Eddie pointedly does not look (he sees him out of the corner of his eye anyway, he can’t help it, peripheral vision exists, okay?). He doesn’t look until Buck puts his LAFD shirt on, and he’s safe to turn to him without the danger of blushing or his eyes lingering where they shouldn’t. He kind of hates realizing he’s attracted to his best friend, because it’s making things weird, at least in his head.
“How does it make sense exactly?” Chimney asks, something smug in his voice.
“It just does.” Buck says dismissively, and Eddie wonders if he’s as confused as Eddie as to what has been happening lately between them. “And Christopher wants nothing more than to get a dog. He said he doesn’t want any presents for his birthday or for Christmas, just a dog.” he adds, and Eddie’s heart breaks a little. Has he said that? Not to Eddie. But if he did… They’re so gonna break Eddie sooner or later. But, again, he’s stubborn (which is probably where Chris gets it from, honestly).
“We’re not getting a dog.” he repeats for what feels like a thousandth time. It’s like a new catchphrase, and he doesn’t like it.
“But Eddie.” Buck pouts, and Eddie tries, really tries, but is aware he’s doing a poor job at that, to conceal a fond smile. Buck is just so adorable, and Eddie is- well, he’s maybe-possibly-probably in love with him. But they’re at work, and their friends are listening, and he doesn’t need the input, and doesn’t need them to know how much closer he and Buck are than they realize – though it might be too late for that, to be honest.
“Let’s talk at home?” he finally sighs, and Buck grins triumphantly. And Eddie knows he’s gonna give in sooner or later.
Especially since, once he gets home, Chris and Buck join forces once again, and Eddie can only hold out on his own for so long. With even his partner against him, there’s not much he can do. His son has websites of some local shelters open on his laptop, as well as a whole PowerPoint presentation about why it’s a great idea to get a dog. Eddie doesn’t know when Buck and Chris made it, but they did, and now they sit Eddie down in the living room and make their case.
And, well, obviously, Eddie’s heart is not made of stone. He sees the two most important people in his life be so passionate and excited about this, they already set their hearts on getting a dog, and Eddie’s been refusing long enough.
Once the presentation is over, he stands up from the couch, while his boys look at him expectantly and with so much hope, if he didn’t change his mind already, he would now.
“So? Can we get a dog?” Chris asks quietly. Eddie takes a deep breath.
“We need to set some rules first.” Eddie says, and cheers erupt. Before he can say anything more, he finds himself in a tight embrace by Buck and Chris, whom Buck lifted up into his arms, so they can both hug Eddie. They thank him, and are so happy, and Eddie knows he’s made a good decision.
He’s even more sure a minute later, when Buck, in all his joy and excitement, apparently forgets himself and kisses Eddie straight on the lips, just a sweet, chaste brush of lips, and when he realizes what he’s done, they both freeze. Meanwhile, Chris, still in Buck’s arms, has his arms around Eddie’s neck, and doesn't look at them.
There’s fear in Buck’s eyes, and Eddie gets it, the fear over the possibility of ruining everything, he feels it every time he has the urge to do something dumb like kiss Buck. Which, well, happened. And Buck initiated it. So maybe nothing’s ruined, if Buck feels the same. Because why else would he kiss Eddie?
So, Eddie smiles, which quickly turns into a grin, and Buck looks relieved, and then he beams, when Eddie leans back in, capturing Buck’s lips in a short, soft, tender kiss. It feels like coming home, like everything is where it’s supposed to be. Somehow, Eddie thinks they’re on the same page, and they both know they’re on the same page. They will need to talk later, but for now, the silent communication and understanding they’ve always had is enough.
“Ew.” they hear Chris groan, and they break the kiss with a laugh, both blushing. “At least put me down if you’re gonna make out.” he adds, and Eddie feels his cheeks get even warmer. He sees that Chris is smiling, though, and Eddie’s a little surprised, because it seems like he’s cool with him and Buck being… whatever they are now. Hopefully dating.
“Uh, here you go.” Buck mumbles, putting him back down, his face bright red. “So, a dog?” he asks, shyly looking at Eddie.
“When?” Chris immediately adds.
“Why don’t we drive down to the shelter tomorrow and have a look?” Eddie suggests. “But first, some rules.” he says sternly, not letting even Buck kissing him distract him, not completely, anyway. He can keep it together for a minute. “Every morning one of you walks it and feeds it. No dogs on the furniture, including the couch. It’ll get a bed in your room-” he points at Chris, who beams at him, “and that’s where it’ll sleep. It’s your responsibility.” he looks from Chris to Buck, they both nod. He’s also aware that most of any rules will get broken anyway, and that he’ll end up taking care of it, too, obviously, they all live under the same roof anyway. Well, not all… not yet.
“Are we building a doghouse in the backyard?” Buck asks tentatively.
“Dad, can we?”
“Yes, of course we can.” Eddie smiles, because he already said yes, and he’s not sure he’d be able to say no to anything they both ask him right now. “But let’s get a dog first, and then we’ll worry about everything else, alright? We’ll get toys and bowls and all that tomorrow, too.” he adds, knowing that it’s another question from his son. And it’s just hitting him now that it’s happening. They’re getting a dog. What is he getting himself into… But first, there are more pressing issues. “Hey, why don’t you go call Carla and tell her, to prepare her for what she’ll have to deal with when she’s here next time, and I’ll just talk to Buck real quick?” Eddie adds, and Chris just nods, gives them both a knowing look, as if he was sure what it is they wanna talk about, and goes to his room.
Once they’re alone, Eddie looks at Buck, who’s looking everywhere but at Eddie. He’s nervous, as if he didn’t get enough confirmation already. Eddie grabs his hand and intertwines their fingers, and Buck’s wide eyes land on him.
“Relax.” Eddie chuckles. “I just felt like maybe we need to talk at least a little bit.”
“Yeah, uh, so that was-” he stops, as if not sure what to say next.
“Unexpected.” Eddie finishes for him, still smiling. “But very, very welcome.” he says just to reassure Buck that he’s not reading anything wrong (Eddie’s not sure how he could but, well, it’s Buck), and tugs at Buck’s hand to bring him closer.
“Yeah?” his face lights up, and his eyes shine when they look into Eddie’s.
“Yeah.” Eddie gets even closer, their faces inches apart, both their smiles widening, as Eddie links their lips again. But then he pulls away, because he did want to talk. Nothing goes according to plan today, but he’s not complaining. “I’m happy you kissed me, because I was starting to think I’d never be brave enough.” Eddie admits. “I was worried I’d ruin things if you didn’t feel the same.”
“Which is?” Buck raises an eyebrow, his smile turns teasing, and hopeful, and of course he already knows, but Eddie will gladly spell it out for him.
“I’m in love with you.” Eddie responds, looking into Buck’s eyes, and he feels so much lighter now that he said it. He’s been denying it, wondering, freaking out over it for so long, but now it comes as easy as breathing, and it just feels so right. “I think I have been for a long time. We’re a family already, but I want us to be a family in this sense, too.” he squeezes Buck’s hand, where he’s still holding it. “I love you so much, Buck.”
“I love you, too.” Buck’s smile is blinding. And Eddie can’t resist leaning in to kiss it. “I didn’t even think, it was so-”
“Normal?” Eddie finishes for him with a laugh. “Yeah. Like we’ve always done it.” Because that’s what it feels like when he kisses Buck right now. It’s amazing, yes, but there’s nothing really groundbreaking, it doesn’t feel new, even though it is, it’s the most natural thing in the world, kissing Buck, like Eddie’s been meant to do it. “And if you want, I’d love to do this for the rest of our lives.”
“Wow, that’s fast.” Buck jokes, kissing Eddie again. “We just kissed for the first time, slow down.”
“Uh, we’re getting a dog together.” Eddie pulls away further to give him a look, eyebrows raised. “And we’re co-parenting a kid together, have been for longer than either of us probably realize.” he adds, and sees Buck’s face melt at that. “We’re pretty far ahead already.”
“That’s true.” Buck chuckles. “I can’t believe this is happening.” he whispers, bringing his free hand up to Eddie’s cheek. “I love you.”
“I love you.” Eddie can’t resist a smile. He gets to say it now. He gets to kiss Buck, and hold his hand, and be with him. And maybe they started it a little backwards, but they’re them. They’ve been partners and co-parents for so long, and they know each other better than anyone else. So, Eddie doesn’t think anything would be too fast. Hell, they could get married tomorrow and he’s pretty sure no one would even bat an eye, it’d seem like the most natural thing. But maybe not just yet. Not that, at least, he’ll work up to it one day. However… “And, you know, parenting a kid together plus taking care of a dog together will be just so hard while living apart.” he adds teasingly, and sees Buck’s eyes widen.
“Yeah?” he breathes out.
“Yeah. Might make it much easier if you, I don’t know, maybe move in soon?” he asks, trying to act as nonchalantly as he can, but not quite succeeding, because he’s excited. He hasn’t been this giddy in a long time. And, to be honest, Buck’s already kind of living with them, it’d just make so much sense. More than getting a dog together while living apart, that’s for sure.
“You want me to move in?” Buck tries to smirk, but awe and surprise overtake his expression.
“If you do, yeah.” Eddie says decisively, because now that it’s happening, now that he knows for sure that he and Buck feel the same, everything slots into place, and he knows exactly what he wants. He wants Buck in his life, in his home, forever. “That not too fast for you?” he slowly leans in again, not able to resist those gorgeous lips a second longer, now that he got a taste.
“Actually, no. Seems perfect.” Buck responds, meeting Eddie’s lips halfway.
When they go to the shelter the next morning, Chris is excitedly talking about dog names, and everything they need to buy, and all the research he and Buck have been doing on training dogs to pee outside, and teach them tricks – it’s adorable how excited he is, and now Eddie has no idea why he was ever opposed. Buck and Eddie walk right next to him, holding hands, smiling at each other, as they listen to their son.
______________
It takes maybe two weeks for the puppy to have Eddie wrapped around her little paw, any rules he made be damned. He’ll never admit it out loud, because he was the one refusing to get a dog in the first place, but she won him over completely. Buck and Chris tease him about it, and he pretends he has no idea what they’re talking about, which apparently they find really funny.
“Hey, I thought you said no dogs on the couch?” Buck asks, running his fingers through Eddie’s hair, as he walks around the couch to sit next to Eddie. Well, Eddie and their little puppy, Luna, who’s curled up next to him, her head on Eddie’s lap, and she’s soundly snoring as he absentmindedly pets her. Buck sits down on his other side, and puts an arm around Eddie.
“Did I?” Eddie mutters, looking down at the adorable dog, and wondering what he could have been thinking then. “I don’t recall.” he adds, and Buck laughs. Eddie immediately shushes him. “She’s asleep, shut up.”
“Wow.” Buck whispers and rolls his eyes. “And you didn’t even want her.”
“Shh.”
“You guys are inseparable now. This was supposed to be Christopher’s dog.” Buck notices with amusement, and he’s only half right. It is Chris’ dog. But she really likes Eddie, and what can he do about it? But they’re not inseparable. Eddie and Buck might be even more now, but not Eddie and the dog.
“She is. Yours and Chris’. She just sat next to me.” Eddie says, looking back at the TV that’s so quiet it’s barely audible. Buck and Chris have been obsessed with the dog since the moment they saw her, and she loves to play with them both, but for some reason, whenever Chris is not there, she ends up hanging out with Eddie more. Buck always jokes that she could sense who was skeptical towards her and made it her mission to change his mind. Maybe there’s something to it.
“And you woke up at four to walk her this morning. And two days ago.” Buck points out, having way too much fun with this. So maybe Eddie’s willingly walking her now after claiming that he won’t, because he’s not the one who wants a dog, so what? He’s allowed to change his mind… again. “And didn’t she sleep in our bed last night?”
“That’s irrelevant.” Eddie responds, not able to resist a smile. He still can’t believe it’s our bed, and our home, and our son, and our life… and our dog – as much as Eddie wants to deny it, she stole his heart, just like she did Buck’s and Chris’. He won’t say that, though. “Someone has to walk her when you two can’t, and she already woke me up.” he shrugs.
“Oh, of course.” Buck laughs and kisses his cheek. “So you guys are not best friends yet?”
“No.” Eddie responds immediately, but his hand is still petting the dog, and he involuntarily smiles when she blinks her eyes open. “Hi, look who finally woke up.” he says softly, and ignores Buck chuckling – or tries to, but it’s Buck, and his laugh is one of his favorite sounds. Luna turns over, demanding belly rubs, and Eddie obliges.
“I love you so much.” Buck says, and when Eddie looks up at him, he immediately meets his eyes, filled with so much affection, it still takes Eddie by surprise.
“I love you, too.” Eddie responds, and just the fact that he can say it now is still making him grin like an idiot.
“More than the dog?” Buck teases, and Eddie rolls his eyes, while Buck laughs once again. “I’m not hearing a no.”
“You’re insufferable.” Eddie leans over and kisses Buck, just to shut him up. He laughs into the kiss, and Eddie can’t believe how much he loves him, his heart is overflowing with it. One of them deepens the kiss, and Eddie’s just about to suggest they make the best out of Chris still being at school, while they have a day off, but then a few insistent barks interrupt them, and Eddie realizes he stopped petting the dog when he and Buck started kissing. He pulls away, and smirks. “Look, she’s just as clingy as you.”
“And apparently she wants all your attention, like me.” he looks at Luna. “You know he’s mine, right?” he gets another bark in response, before she apparently gets bored of not getting attention, and jumps off the couch, going to the kitchen, where she has her bowls and some of her toys, and they installed a dog door on the back door, so she can go to the backyard, where Eddie, Buck and Chris build a doghouse and fenced off a little area for her. It’s been a fun project, Buck was right. “Ha! Now I have you all to myself.” Buck grins, and leans in again.
Much later that night, they all watch a movie together, Christopher sits in between them, the puppy on his lap, Buck and Eddie’s hands intertwined on the back of the couch, because now that they’re allowed to, they never stop touching for longer than necessary. Maybe they’re both a little clingy. Eddie kind of loves it.
He looks at his family, his wonderful son, and his incredible partner, who’s holding his hand and smiles softly at him over their son’s head, and the dog that, there’s no denying, brought them together. Maybe it’d happen one day anyway, it probably would, but they got here quicker because Christopher and Buck really wanted a dog. And now they live together, they have a family and a life, and a future together. Eddie thinks that giving in to all the pleading and getting a dog was the best decision he could’ve made, and he’s so grateful for it.
He brings Buck’s hand closer and kisses his knuckles, just because. He’s just overwhelmed with how happy he is right now. He doesn’t think he’s ever been more content in his life. And when Chris groans and complains that they’re being gross and constantly making out (which they’re not… at least not with Chris present), they just laugh, and look at each other, and it’s perfect. Their family is perfect. Eddie wouldn’t change it for the world.

hi!! holds up hand. in a more ideal situation (interpret that how you wish, maybe liike in the leaving together ending?) who do you think would broken have the healthiest relationsip with? both other voices and vessels.
oh, what a fun little question! upon reread i realize you might've meant a romantic relationship but i wrote this with mostly friendships in mind. however, i literally adore every broken pairing so i suppose this could still be read either way ♡
might be a little unexpected, but i imagine for 1-on-1 settings that broken would be hanging out with cheated most of time. ironically, where broken's bitterness tends to be ignored, cheated is way more friendly than people give him credit for.
broken frequently laments he's never been listened to, but cheated actually does listen to him! when you choose to surrender in the arms race, the other voices are against it, but cheated says it's worth a shot, and he's never harsh when speaking to him like the others. out of everyone he'd probably understand why broken has completely given up, and that he has good intentions despite. i can only think he'd be upset if forced into the apotheosis route (blacktabbygames on my hands and knees, please please please-), but most of his rage would be directed at the princess for rigging the game than anything the voices did.
i imagine cheated probably gently urges them to hang out together if broken's up for it. they'd do little activites like cleaning the church together, board games, sitting quietly as the rain falls, going out on a little rowboat on the lake to do some fishing and accepting their bad luck when it inevitably capsizes. divorced dad energy as i've seen someone say.
oh! as a bonus, for my own voices, chichi always huddles broken into his coat or offers it whenever it gets crowded since he knows broken doesn't do well with being looked at + broken reminds him of his family (flinching) :3c
hmm, as for the other voices, i think broken would have a nicest friendship with smitten and paranoid but they'd tend to clash more. which isn't a bad thing! smitten would definitely go overboard trying to cheer broken up and make him feel a little uneasy, while broken would undoubtedly assert that they are not destined lovers on equal footing with the princess, but i think they would still enjoy each other's company despite their differences. guys hated for their swag (unapologetically killing tlq).
paranoid meanwhile i think of as an exasperated mother hen. he wouldn't be overtly friendly like smitten or cheated but the first to check him over for any harm. have you eaten today? did you shower? you're making gloomy expression again, what are you thinking about? we need to go shopping later, your clothes are all ragged- and other clucking. the two are always pushing and pulling against eachother but i think of para as his closest friend because of it. tough love, baby!
as for the vessels⸻
WOUNDED WILD. ITS WOUNDED WILD AND IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(they make so violent. congratulations brokewild for inventing heterophobia 🎉)
i sometimes see posts where opportunist is jealous of witch/thorn and i think we should give tower the same treatment. her weird ass should stay grumbling by her temple's window as she watches broken and his friend clumsily dance in the garden. literally the virgin vs chad meme with these two.
i like to think in an au where they're seperate from shifting quiet that beast-wild would struggle with her personhood, and perhaps try seeking forgiveness from a deity since she can't forgive herself. she meets broken and they become sad little kindred spirits found whispering excitedly in the backpew.
and last but not least damsel! dambroken are quite similar characters in the sense they're both highly subservient to their lovers to the point of figuratively becoming nothing, so i always think of their interactions as the "and so, they were both bottoms" meme.
i actually think they'd actually clash a bit upon meeting. damsel's heart would break seeing her husband in such a sad state (in her mind everyone is just collectively married), and broken would probably be a little offput by how submissive she is despite being a princess. he'd get flustered if she tried to help him cook or clean and send her away, and outside the door you can see her mind kicking into overdrive trying to figure out how she's expected to make him happy if she can't do anything.
and maybe finally they'd have a quiet bonding moment where they sit and talk about their time in the construct. killing your lover and allowing your lover kill you seriously would have messed them up, and sharing pain with another lessens it. atleast a little.
tl;dr i love them your honor

First Lieutenant Buckley
Buck and Eddie knew each other in the army, because Buck was Eddie’s CO. They meet each other again in the 118 where Buck pretends he never was in the army, while behind the backs of the team, the two bond about it. The truth comes out when Eddie gets in his own head and the best way to pull him out is for Buck to pull out his commanding voice.
On AO3.
Ships: none
Warnings: PTSD and mentions of war
~~~
Buck turns around to see who the others are talking about, already a little annoyed at their comments to rile him up. That annoyance turns into apprehension when he spots someone he already knows: Eddie, who definitely knows who Buck is too.
He watches Eddie pull on a shirt, mind running a mile a minute to come up with something to not have to do this. It’s not that he’s ashamed of his time in the army, not at all, he just doesn’t like talking about it. Ever.
The person he was there isn’t someone he wants to be now. He likes who he has become with the team and he doesn’t feel like having that implode, because New Guy McGee over there does something.
So, he decides to preemptive deny everything. If he does it right, he can play it off as a case of mistaken identity should Eddie do something to reveal that part of himself.
“Who the hell is that?” he thus asks.
He lets Bobby explain who Eddie is as if he has no clue, playing up his annoyance so he can lag behind, as the others make their way over to Eddie to be introduced.
As expected Eddie looks over, then also catches Buck’s eye over their shoulder. Buck can see the spark of recognition in them and he starts to snap to attention. Before he can complete the action Buck shakes his head at him as he makes chop it off motion behind the 118’s backs.
Eddie frowns in confusion, but before there can be more silent communication between them, Hen is already greeting him alongside Bobby and Chim.
Buck hurries over there before Eddie can say something, holding out his own hand as he greets: “Eddie Diaz, right? People call me Buck.”
The confusion does not let up and Eddie’s eyes flick from Buck to the rest of the team, then back to Buck. “Yes, I’m Eddie Diaz,” he finally greets back with a voice that says, you know this, why are you asking. “It’s nice to see you-”
“Uh-huh,” Buck interrupts, squeezing Eddie’s hand before he can add the ‘again’.
Before anyone can comment on the weird tension between them or the situation can develop, the alarms go off. Now, Buck will never be glad someone is in trouble, however, he is slightly grateful about that intervention.
He and Eddie are stilted and cold throughout the call. Eddie obviously has no idea how to interact with Buck outside their previous professional conduct, while Buck doesn’t want to trigger an unwanted reaction by opening up a line of communication between them.
The others take notice. Of course they do. Buck is always friendly with everyone, making connections with everyone on every call, to have him suddenly not click with someone at all, is unusual, thus noteworthy.
However, Buck ignores their stares and Eddie follows his lead. He seemingly gets along with everyone else just fine and Buck knows they’ll work well together, if they get a second of privacy to straighten this out. But that is hard to come by in the 118.
Not to mention how nosy and pushy the others can be. He loves his family, but sometimes he curses their shared desire to fix everything and save everyone.
Bobby obviously thinks there is something to be fixed or patched up and frustratingly, he has picked up on the fact that Buck is the cause here. Forcing him to work with Eddie all day. Bobby doesn’t know that they can’t fix it until they can talk without him there, so his hovering isn’t working.
It’s not until the two of them are pulling a bomb out of a man’s leg that they’re alone enough to talk about it. Eddie says: “Why do you do that, sir?”
“Do what?” Buck asks, playing dumb.
“Pretending you don’t know me, let me take the lead on this because it has military stuff, as if you don’t know about that either,” Eddie answers without hesitation, not letting Buck get away with his bullshit.
It’s hard to dispute that, since he has seamlessly fit himself alongside Eddie to work on a familiar wound. “They don’t know I served,” he sighs after a second.
“What? Why not?” Eddie exclaims, sheepishly adding a: “Sir.”
“Stop it with the sir stuff. You don’t do it to Bobby and it’s not like we’re still in the military,” Buck rolls his eyes. “I just didn’t want to talk about it. They think I’m a stupid kid, who is a little reckless from time to time.”
“Well, can’t argue with the reckless,” Eddie grins.
“Suppose not,” Buck grins back, meeting his gaze for a second before returning to the wound and his explanation: “You know what we saw out there. When I joined the academy, the last thing I wanted to do was talk about it. So I didn’t mention it. I got better, but by then I was already this person they knew and I don’t want to take that away from them.”
“With all due respect, sir, that’s kind of stupid.”
“What did I just say about the sir stuff.”
“Okay, same rank here, right?” Eddie asks and Buck nods. “I think you’re being stupid. I have only been running with you guys for a day, but it’s clear how much they care. You aren’t sparing them by not telling them. They’ll get it. They want you here, man.”
“I wasn’t a very good person there,” Buck responds without replying. “I can be innocent here.”
“You were one of the best out there, Buck,” Eddie says kindly, testing out his name.
“What?” Buck sends him a look.
“I mean, certainly not innocent, but no one is out there,” Eddie shrugs. “But you were the best to have above you. You actually cared. About all of us. We felt that. I don’t know who you are now, but First Lieutenant Buckley is someone I happily served under. I don’t mind having to work with firefighter Buck, if he’s half the man I knew out there.”
Buck can’t help the touched smile that appears on his face at that, ducking his head to hide the small flush. He has disliked who he was in the army for so long that to hear something positive about it, makes him bashful. “I’ll think about it.”
“Good. I’ll back your play until you’re ready,” Eddie promises and Buck can feel that this is the start of a great friendship.
“Thanks,” Buck says, before his gaze falls onto the grenade and he notices the cap, which puts another end to their conversation.
However, he was right that they cleared the air the second they had a bit of privacy – in as far having a bleeding out patient is private – they cleared the air and they’re good now. This is further cemented by the two digging out the live grenade together.
After that, they’re as close as can be, much to everyone’s relief. The two make a good team and their work together balances out the A shift.
None of them seem to notice that their familiarity is not as new as they think. They don’t notice that Buck’s voice is more authoritative than normal and that Eddie follows his lead almost as, if not more, easily than Bobby’s.
They grow out of their former relation of CO and solider into an equal team pretty soon, but traces of it will always linger. Neither mind though. It’s nice to have security of someone who knows what they’re doing, someone you can count on.
Time passes and the 118 is less glad about their newfound friendship when there is a dangerous rescue that Buck attempts and Eddie backs him up on without question. All the others are yelling at him about it, but Eddie follows his lead.
When they get back, Buck gets an earful about not being careful, which ends with Bobby involving Eddie as well. “And you, Eddie. What were you thinking going after him like that? I have come to expect this idiot here to be reckless, but you? I expected better.”
Bobby is pulling out his disappointed dad voice, but Eddie doesn’t even blink as he answers: “I was thinking that we had a secure line and plenty of room to create slack and push off to get out of the way should anything happen. Those kids were about to fall. We didn’t have time to come up with anything else. It was safer than some of the other rescues we’ve done. From my perspective Buck had a solid plan, nothing idiotic.”
The team blinks at Eddie while Buck grins. Hen breaks the silence by groaning: “Oh god, there’s two of them now.”
“Do no let it happen again,” Bobby warns, thrown off by the fact that his lecture didn’t land as intended.
Buck slings an arm around Eddie and smirks: “Glad to have someone here who sees it my way, Diaz.”
“Don’t call me Diaz,” Eddie scowls, but he does nothing to dislodge Buck or argue with anything else. At least, not until he has cajoled Buck into coming over for a beer, then he says: “You know, the others might not give you as much shit if they knew you know what you’re doing. That you’ve done more idiotically heroic stuff and lived.”
“I know,” Buck groans, slumping over the table as he nurses his beer. “I just don’t know how to bring it up, you know. I’m Buck who can’t lie and suddenly I’ve been lying for the past two years, because Buck 1.0 was actually already Buck 2.0 and I sucked as a person.”
“You didn’t suck as a person,” Eddie rolls his eyes, kicking his shin lightly under the table. “You just-”
“Killed people instead of saving them?” Buck cuts him off to fill in the blank.
“You just had a different job,” Eddie glares as he finishes the sentence how he wanted to in the first place. “And one you were good at. You saved my ass more than once.”
“Well, if you didn’t keep getting into trouble, I wouldn’t have to.”
“Oh like you’re one to talk, I still remember pulling all that shrapnel out off your ass.”
“A memory I’d prefer we could both forget,” Buck wrinkles his nose.
“Whatever, man. All I’m saying is that you’re making a mountain out of a mole hill,” Eddie tells him. “Everyone’s family. They’re not going be mad about keeping secrets about things like this. They weren’t mad at Bobby either, right?”
“How do you know about Bobby?”
“Chim told me.”
“Ah, that’s someone who can actually not keep a secret,” Buck grins, before it drops as he considers Eddie’s words. He drains his beer, then says: “Maybe if the opportunity presents, like another rescue or something. Feels weird to make it announcement.”
“Good first step,” Eddie claps him on the back. “Another beer?”
“Yes, please.”
The moment presents itself a week or so later and not in the way Buck had expected or would have preferred. They had a driver, who hit a crowd at a festival causing a grandstand to collapse, trapping multiple people.
They’re pulling people out and tending to their wounds when there’s a sudden flash and bang behind them. The timed firework show is starting, not having been stopped in the chaos of it all.
Buck can feel himself flinch and he has to take multiple deep breaths, before he can concentrate on his job again. However, one glance at Eddie tells him that the other has frozen completely.
Quickly he observes him standing there, under an unstable part of the grandstand. He had been assigned to place support beams, but he is too frozen to do so. If he doesn’t move soon, he’s going to get buried and the person on top will get more injured in the fall.
No one else seems to notice, seems to do something. Fear grips his heart and he starts to walk Eddie’s way, screaming: “Eddie. Eddie!”
Nothing. Eddie doesn’t move. All Buck gets is the stares of others on the scene, who now also notice Eddie’s predicament. None of them are close enough as the grandstand creaks and moves a little further.
Making an executive decision, Buck puts on his military voice and bellows: “Staff Sargent Diaz! Move your sorry ass, soldier! Now! You’re not leaving here in a meat wagon.”
The commanding tone fits with the mindset Eddie is in and his head snaps up, then back to his hands, as if he is only now learning what he was doing. “Sir, yes, sir,” Eddie shouts, mechanically starting to do what he’s meant to.
Buck is already running his way, glad that Eddie is moving to make his unsafe situation safer, but knowing that he won’t be right in the head. He needs to get there, before he can spiral or hurt himself.
Indeed, when he gets there, Eddie is looking dazed as he looks around, breath quick and eyes skittish. He’s looking around for a threat or something familiar. He finds something familiar first, they land on Buck and he snaps into a salute: “First Lieutenant Buckley, sir.”
“At ease, Sargent,” Buck says, trying to slowly ease Eddie out of wherever he’s gone. “Report. Do you know where you are?”
Eddie falls into a rest pose, arms clasped behind his back. He goes to answer, then furrows his brows. “The- the festival, sir.”
“Good. Do you know why you’re at the festival?” Buck encourages gently, dropping a lot of the authority he had before.
It takes a second before Eddie puts all the pieces together, Buck can see it in his eyes how he comes back to them. “To help with the car crash,” he reports softly, looking at Buck with wide scared eyes. “What happened?” he asks.
“Firework show,” Buck answers sympathetically. “You feeling better now?”
“Ugh,” Eddie groans, rubbing his eyes with one hand. “Yeah, I’m good now.”
“If Eddie’s feeling better, do we get to ask questions now?” Chimney speaks up, startling both men as they realize the entire 118 is right behind them, having run over as well to help out Eddie when Buck pulled their attention to it.
“No,” Buck speaks first and quickly. “There’s still a woman up there. Let’s move.”
He starts the process of rescuing her, while Chimney follows quickly saying: “I’m just saying we can talk and rescue at the same time.”
“You’re not going to shut up, are you?” Eddie asks as he follows as well, sounding fond.
“Have you met him?” Hen comments.
“Oh like you’re not just as bad as I am,” Chimney complains.
Thankfully Buck has reached the woman on top and Chimney has to focus on checking her over, before the two of them plus Eddie get her on a backboard and the 118 has to figure out the logistics of getting her down properly.
She is not doing well, so Buck is given a reprieve from the questions – a reprieve he’d rather not have if that means the woman is okay – but he takes it now that he has it.
Thankfully, she makes it to the hospital alive. Chim and Hen tell everyone that when they arrive at the fire house again, interrupting the silence that had been hanging over everyone.
Eddie is still coming down from the adrenaline spike, though doing much better, and Buck has been silently waiting for the other shoe to drop, preferring to keep Eddie grounded in lieu of interacting with Bobby, who has been graciously allowing them the space, knowing answers will come with Chim and Hen’s return to the house.
Indeed, Chim drops onto the couch next to Buck and Eddie and demands: “So, what was all that First Lieutenant Buckley shit about?”
“Yeah, and since when are you so authoritative?” Hen adds, directing her question at Buck.
Buck and Eddie exchange a look. Eddie raises his brow, Buck pouts, then gives him a nod, before Eddie cocks his head and Buck gives an annoyed eyeroll, before widening his eyes slightly. Then Eddie says: “Well, I called him that, because that’s his rank. He was my CO.”
“That was an unnecessary detail,” Buck huffs.
“CO?” Chim repeats, confused.
“Commanding Officer,” Bobby surprisingly clarifies.
“Wait,” Hen says. “You,” she points at Buck, “were his,” she points at Eddie, “commanding officer? As in orders him around all day?”
“Yeah, basically,” Buck grins. “Eddie here was one of my little minions.”
“Oh fuck off,” Eddie shoves him lightly. “I wasn’t one of your little minions. I was one of your soldiers and I kept you alive through most of your idiocy, might I add.”
“You know, you used to be a lot more respectful.”
“That was when you were actually still above me and far enough up the chain that I didn’t see your stupidity every day, just whenever you were badly injured enough about it.”
“I still can’t believe you used to be army, Buck,” Hen says, shaking her head.
“Yes, me neither. You told me you washed out of SEAL training,” Bobby adds.
“And I did,” Buck replies. “I just washed out after serving in the army for five years, because I realized that if I signed that contract that would be my life for a long time and I didn’t want to do that, didn’t want to become that person. More than I already was.”
He trails off at the end, voice becoming sad. The 118 frowns and Hen gently asks: “What do you mean by that, Buck?”
Buck looks up at her, startled like a deer in headlights. He clears his throat then looks away, purposefully not meeting their eyes as he answers: “I wasn’t always me. I was good at my job, I mean, you don’t get promoted like I did for nothing. But being good at being a solider, well, it means not being a very good person.”
“He’s exaggerating,” Eddie pipes up. “He has this whole I was a terrible person thing going on, but he was one of the best Lieutenants we had out there. He cared a whole lot more than he gives himself credit for.”
“Eddie,” Buck both sighs and warns.
“What? It’s true, you think we didn’t miss you when we quit? We did,” Eddie shoots back. “You always ran back in to get our asses, even if it got your own ass hurt. Not many will do that.”
“Ugh, don’t bring that up again.”
“I will. I earned that right when I had to patch you up after that stunt.”
“I’m sensing there’s a story there,” Chimney interjects, always looking for new embarrassing stories about the others.
Eddie gets an evil glint in his eyes, but Buck moves faster, slapping a hand over his mouth as he points a finger at Eddie and threatens: “Not a word, Sargent.”
Since Buck prevents him from speaking, Eddie does a salute and Buck lowers his hand with a wary look. Eddie gives Chimney an apologetic look: “Sorry, man. Orders are orders.”
“You truly were his superior,” Hen says, looking a little shocked as she leans back, as if she still can’t quite wrap her head around it.
Buck blushes at that, ducking his head and turning into himself slightly. “It’s not that big a deal. I wasn’t that high up.”
“44 people were under your command, Buck. That’s not nothing,” Eddie points out, causing Buck to glare at him. He doesn’t need Eddie brag about him. However, Eddie just meets his gaze head on with defiance. A part of Buck is grateful that Eddie is his friend now not his subordinate, however, another part of him misses when Eddie was a little cowed by him.
Hen whistles and Chimney gives him an impressed look. Bobby studies him for a second, then he says: “There is more to you than meets the eye, it seems. Why didn’t you ever mention it?”
Buck scratches his nose and says: “When I first got here, I didn’t wanna talk about it. Most veterans don’t. By the time Eddie came around, it was already second nature to not say anything. I didn’t want to upset you all by telling you I’d been lying all this time.”
“I would have preferred to know, but it’s your life, Buck. You can chose what to share. I, of all people, understand that,” Bobby replies kindly, lifting a weight off of Buck’s shoulders that he hadn’t realized was there.
“So you were just being a good little soldier by not saying anything either, I guess,” Chimney nudges Eddie teasingly, as the other glares, though it’s more a pout.
“Oh yeah, this totally explains the weird vibes between you two that first shift,” Hen adds.
“And why Eddie backs Buck’s stupid plans,” Chimney nods.
“Hey, my plans are not stupid,” Buck exclaims, faux-offended at the comment.
Everyone turns to Eddie, waiting to see which side he picks. “I mean, I wouldn’t always call them the smartest, but he has the skills to back it up. There’s always a reasoning behind it. It’s not impulsive. Just seems so to anyone who is not Buck.”
“I’ll take it,” Buck decides after a second, grinning widely and slinging an arm around Eddie to pull him closer.
“This doesn’t mean I’ll let you do whatever out there,” Bobby warns. “I might back your plays a bit more, but we do things by the book and as safe as possible.”
“Aye, aye, Cap,” Buck replies with a salute. It’s obviously meant to be a lazy one, however, years of serving means that it’s instinctively quite proper.
Then everyone continues to prod them for more details about how they’ve known each other and stories about one another. Eddie is grateful for the camaraderie that keeps him there and Buck for the acceptance of everyone. It’s a nice family moment that he relishes in.
When Eddie first came here, he was quite annoyed about it all. Back then the team’s comments were riling him up and Eddie’s presence only aggravated him more. He didn’t want them to know who he was.
Now, he watches Eddie recall their antics at the base and smiles fondly. He was never ashamed of his time in the army, just didn’t like talking about it, or remember what he’d been like. However, this? This is kind of nice.
It feels weird not to be requesting the murder mystery party (The story was so perfectly written!) but I am loving the Librarian!Buck story already!
Ahh thank you so much!! You are so kind!!!
He wants to push it further. Give his dad the opportunity to say the wrong thing. Let Eddie off the hook of doing any emotional labor if all that’s going to happen is disappointment and hurt.
“I’m going to ask him to marry me.”
Ramon nods. “If he makes you that happy, and you know him that well, then you should. That’s great, son.”
Fuck. It’s exactly the right thing to say. Not a hint of judgment or disdain.
“Thank you,” Eddie mumbles.
Maybe this is worth the risk. Maybe.
He takes a deep breath.
“This doesn’t mean I forgive Mom,” he tells his father. “This is… If we work on it, it’s just between us.”
“I know that,” Ramon nods. “She and I have… Well, we’ve discussed this. If she wants to change how things are between the two of you, she has to do that herself. But I’m not waiting for her to get there.”
Eddie can imagine them fighting about it. Her wounded pride. Her probably valid grievances about the kind of partner Ramon was, only to have this clarity now. But he’s right. It’s up to her to cross the distance between them. Even if Eddie isn’t sure he can forgive her. He definitely won’t if she doesn’t try. And… And maybe he’s glad his father is trying.
Gonna move 🔼 to the bottom and put it under the cut for NSFW content.
So, 30 for 🧟:
But could things be way worse for her and the people she loves most? Easily.
And the thing is, they sort of were.
Before the end of life as they knew it, Hen had been dancing around the potential end of things as she knew it. Her marriage. Her family. Her stability. And it had been all Hen’s fault.
Her ex, Eva, had been up for parole. Hen had gone to visit her a few times, before she’d gotten out of jail, and after. Nothing had happened, but she’d lied to Karen about it. Knowing it was an insecurity in their relationship. Knowing Karen wouldn’t be happy to find out. But Karen did find out and the resulting arguments had not been good. Hen had been scared. Scared and mad. Scared for her marriage and her future. Mad at herself. Mad at Eva. She’d felt close to imploding.
And then the world ended.
The thing is, apocalypses put all your other problems into perspective. You forget about meddlesome ex-girlfriends/bio mothers rather quickly when the chance is more than likely that she’s now a zombie. You put issues behind you super fast when you come so close to death. And Hen and Karen did that. They made up. Karen forgave her. They moved on. They survived.
When he calls Carla, she explains it. Shannon Diaz was killed by a distracted driver in Mar Vista. She was crossing the street when the driver blew through a crosswalk, striking her down. Eddie’s fire station responded to the call. He had to watch her die. Buck feels sick, listening to the story.
He doesn’t know what to do about it. There is nothing he can do about it. He’s already too late to attend the funeral. Not that that would be appropriate. Would it? He’s not sure what the etiquette is. He’s not expected to do anything. He didn’t know Shannon Diaz. He is her son’s librarian. He is somewhat friendly with her widower. That’s all.
And yet, he feels he needs to do something.
He thinks about it for days. Days, in which Christopher never comes back to the library. Where Buck feels like absence from the after school programming like a redacted line on a page.
So he does something a little stupid. Technically against the rules. Eddie could probably get him fired, if he doesn’t like it. Buck hopes he won’t, though.
He goes to a local indie bookstore and buys a probably unnecessarily large stack of kids books. Things he knows are right at Christopher’s reading level or just above it. Adds in a little bookmark with a watercolor illustration of Santa Monica Pier. Wraps them up in recycled gift wrap. Attaches a card.
30 for 🔼:
⚠️NSFW CONTENT AHEAD READ WITH CAUTION⚠️
---
 Her enjoyment of it seems amplified, too. Eddie’s not going to take that as any specific review on his mouth’s own capabilities. Just that Shannon was really ready for this. So much so in fact, that she’s urging him to continue as soon as she’s finished once. She wants more. He wants to give her more.
So he takes off his belt and shimmies out of his pants. Throws her shirt and boxers on the floor. He’s vaguely, distantly aware it’s his work uniform and he left work for this. He pushes the concern aside. Right now, this feels more important than anything. Which is probably a sign his critical thinking skills are well and truly diminished to ashes.
They have sex that feels nothing like making love and everything like desperation. Like they both have been wandering around in search of water, and this is the closest they can find that is relief. But not the oasis promised in a mirage. He’s thinking it. He thinks she’s thinking of it. It would be better if…
Well…
It’s not bad. Not at all. It’s great, as far as orgasms go.
But he’s thinking about Buck and Shannon kissing when he comes.
▶️
It doesn’t end up being the same as usual. Because usually, they’d have sex to avoid talking, and she sort of always let him get away with it. This time, Shannon changes the ordinance.
“What the hell was that about?” She asks, breathlessly, once they’re recovered enough to speak.
“Sex?” Eddie asks.
A/n: Because of two posts I have made, I have driven myself to writing this. I love this man and would die for him
Tumblr media
A call came on your phone, you groaned as you rolled to other side of your bed and answered it.
“This better be important. It is almost  ten at night.”
“How quickly can you be in Japan?”
You sat up, worry growing, “That important,” you thought, “Do you know when the next flight leaves?” You flick on your lamp.
You heard typing, “Knowing how long it takes you to pack, traffic, going through security. There’s one that leaves at four in the morning. A direct flight will take fourteen hours and 5 minutes.” He responded.
You yawned, “Okay, go ahead and buy the ticket. I will get ready and next time, sweetheart, if you have the slightest inkling you have a case I could work on, call me. You know I have become fond of solving them or at least helping Watari take care of you.”
“I am sorry for waking you, I really am.”
You got up and walked to the bathroom, turning on the light and then the shower. “Only because you know I get when I don’t sleep.” You joked.
You could hear a slight smile in his voice, “You do get cranky.”
“I better let you go fight crime, Batman.”
“See you soon, Robin.”
You pressed the read button on your phone, a pleased look fell to your face as you got ready.
As you walked through the airport, you were scanning the crowd, knowing that a terrible murder could have been hiding in plain sight.
Then you saw a familiar face: an old man, holding a sign with one of you aliases written on it. V
You smiled. L came up with it.
You walked up to the old man and took off your dark sunglasses, “Hello old friend, we going for Granddaughter and Grandfather again?” He nodded, you promptly hugged him.
He hugged you back. “Let’s get you to the hotel, shall we?” He offered you his arm, which you gladly took.
You and Watari talked the entire car ride. You both were happy to see each other but the news on the car radio snapped you from the friendly reunion.
“This guy, he’s got a lot of people confused, doesn’t he?”
“Yes, the police are trying their best but I think it wise for L to call you. Even if you can’t be of much help case wise, you are a moral boost wherever you are.”
“Aw, thanks. But I’m sure poor L is so focused on one part there will be a moment I will ask him a question and it’ll click in place, like it did the last few time.” You giggled.
A slight smile was drawn from the old man, “Yes, that was honestly rather lucky and funny. I think it’ll do him good to have someone to diffuse the tension.”
You talked more as you reached the hotel.
“I will go in first. We can’t be seen leaving or entering together. I will call you and act as if you’re going to see an old friend.” He stated as he got out of the car and began walking to the entrance.
You waited for several minutes, your phone rang. You promptly answered it and began talking along with Watari as you walked in and through the lobby.
You hung up once you got in the elevator, your thoughts drifted to L. It had been four year since you met him, an odd but great four years. You grinned as you thought about your other days with him.
L was perched on your counter, watching intently as you shifted flour.
“L, if you want to help, could you cream together the butter and sugar.”
“I prefer watching you, if that is alright.”
You put your hand on your hip, “You ever heard the story about the Little Red Hen?”
He shook his head no, “I never read children’s stories.”
“So the synopsis is that the little red head does all the work to bake herself a loaf of bread. All of her friends, who she asked for help, now ask for some bread,” you look at L, “And she says: No.”
He was already making a move for a bowl.
You chuckled to yourself as you remembered that. L was a very intelligent and was confident in all of his decisions but there were moments where he was goofy and mildly childish.
The elevator dinged opened, you grabbed the handle of your suitcase and walked out into the hallway,  now scanning the room numbers to find the room.
You saw Watari exiting one of the rooms, you two said nothing when you passed each other. When you came to the door he exited from, you did the knock.
“It’s unlocked, come in.” He said.
You looked around then opened the door, promptly shutting it behind you once you and your belongings were inside.
You locked the door, then looked into the room. You were a little amazed. Last time it was a motel on the side of the highway but this? This was beautiful. You knew the room would be better just based on the lobby but this was better than you imagined.
“Don’t get too comfortable.”
Your eyes found L. Ever so slouchy and tired looking. You walked to him and stood directly in front of him. Had he been standing at his full height, he would’ve been slightly taller than you but do to his posture, you were eye level.
“Hi.” You said, trying to look irritated.
He just smirked ever so lightly, “Hello.”
He opened his arms and you fell into them.
“I swear to god, if you ever do this to me again, I will dangle you by your feet out a window.”
“Violent, aren’t we?” He muttered, hugging you tighter.
“Tired.” You mumbled.
“Take your things to the bedroom and you can take a nap. I have called the Special Task Force to a meeting here. You are welcome to either stay asleep or join us.”
You pulled away from him, still in his arms, “They’re coming here? Do you know how bad of a hostess this makes me look? Not having anything to offer them to eat? Oh and the fact you’re going to reveal yourself to them.”
“It’s not ideal but I need to do it to gain a level of trust.”
“But do we trust them?”
His black eyes were looking direct int yours, scanning your face and your reactions. You sighed.
“Of course you do or you wouldn’t offer.” You yawned, “Aren’t you tired?”
“Only a little bit.” He answered.
“Then come to bed for a while. What time is the meeting?”
“Midnight.”
You checked your watch, “A two hour nap would do you some good.”
He hummed, he was thinking about it which meant he really must be tired. You simply grabbed one of his hand that were still on you and led his to where you guess the bedroom was.
You were right, you made him sit on the bed while you went to retrieve your suitcase to grab your pajamas.
“Are you going to sleep in that?” You we’re referring to his jeans, which you personally couldn’t stand to sleep in.
“Yes.”
You rolled you eyes and sighed, “Fine, give me a minute.” You sat your suitcase on the bed and opened it.
You took out a pair of ankle length silky pants and a black tank top along with items like your toothbrush, tooth paste and your overnight moisturizer. You quickly did your night routine in the bathroom and got changed. You exited the bathroom to see L in the exact place you left him. His eyes darted to you.
You walked to the left side of the bed and rolled back the covers, sliding under them and let your eyes to see L still on top of the covers, per usual. He did this anytime he had to be up before you. He scooted closer to you, using you as his his pillow. You pulled your arms free from the covers to let to your fingers carefully play with his hair and let the other intertwine with his.
“I missed you,” you whispered.
“I missed you too,” he responded, a light yawn followed. “Goodnight, beautiful.”
“Goodnight, sweetheart.”
MCU Promptlet: Tony takes a breather first AU
When Tony Stark finally sets foot on American soil after three months of captivity and torture, he requests two things: an American cheeseburger and a press conference.
Ms. Virginia "Pepper" Potts, the woman who has risen up to become the personal secretary to the head of the largest weapons manufacturer in the country and who will one day become the CEO of the largest technology empire the world has ever seen, takes one look at the three days of stubble on her boss' cheeks, the haunted gaze in his eyes, and the trembling in his always steady hands and says no.
Pepper does not call the press conference, but instead takes Tony home to his workshop where he can sleep, unwatched and among friends, for the first time in months. She takes him home to soothe Jarvis' fears (even though Jarvis' has uploaded himself to any tech within three meters of Tony since he was found, it's not the same as the sensors in the shop and Jarvis' steady stream of increasingly alarmed texts to Pepper's phone have made that clear).
She takes Tony home to be hugged by his robot-children and to let Rhodey mother-hen him the way he couldn't while in uniform, cajoling him to eat small portions of Rhodey's homemade spaghetti - Tony's ultimate secret comfort food - every few hours. The next morning, the three of them sit at the kitchen table, Jarvis ever-present, and Tony tells them of what he found out in Afghanistan. He tells them and they plan.
Tony doesn't have a press-conference, hands still shaking and fear hidden in his eyes, to shut down everything his company is known for on the way home from the airport. Instead, Rhodey and Pepper and Tony strategize.
Tony meets with the Joint Chiefs and the SecDef, not to mention the heads of the CIA, FBI, and NSA. Stark weapons in terrorist hands scares them the same as Tony. Tony tells them of his plans, for his company and for Iron Man. People tend to forget that Tony's company holds billions in military contracts, but only about twenty percent of that is for weapons.
The military knows there will always be other bomb makers, but the rest of what Tony provides? SI holds those thousands of contracts because there is literally no competition. With the military's continued and public support of SI, even without selling weapons, the company's stock never tanks, but instead surges with Tony's newfound determination and innovation.
With the military's support for Iron Man, Tony's PR surges with newfound respect, not just popularity. Pepper says no to a press conference, and that makes all the difference.
[Additional fun head canon below]
This Tony would be gently cajoled into therapy by Pepper.
And see, Tony was basically raised by the military. Howard used to bring him to meetings as a kid and Tony would escape his SI minders and go hang out with the friendly soldiers until his father remembered he had a kid. The soldiers paid him more attention and taught him more than Howard ever did.
And with how he was captured, it would make a lot of sense for Tony to be with a military therapist, and Rhodey quietly works some magic and Tony somehow ends up in group therapy sessions with other soldiers with PTSD.
The soldiers are at first a little wary of Tony Stark coming to group, but also a little in awe because most of them owe their lives or the lives of their brothers/sisters to Stark Tech of some kind.
But then they get to know Tony. And Tony .. doesn't really have friends.
He has Rhodey- who's amazing but can't be there a lot- and Pepper and Happy, but again, they work for him. So the soldiers decide unilaterally to adopt him.
Suddenly Tony is walking out of group and someone is shoving a baseball cap on his head so they can all go out to Chili's for dinner (and no, they don't let him pay).
Then he's being invited to backyard bbq's and birthday parties for two years olds. (A trust fund is an appropriate gift, right?)
And then one day Lisa (a former sergeant in the group) and Helen (Dave's wife) just .. show up at the Tower with coffee and pastries. They don't want anything, they just want to ... catch-up. Which is precisely when tony is hit by the clue by four that he might just have .. friends.
May I request something for Julie,Poppy and Sally(separate) with a dragon reader who hid that they were a dragon because they grew up reading the stories about dragons and are worried about being feared or attacked?
Recently I've been trying to write longer and more detailed posts, this being one of those attempts. Hope you enjoy the headcannons! (^-^)
Julie, Poppy and Sally x dragon Reader
Tumblr media
Julie
★ Julie met you while visiting her family, she got lost and stumbled upon you. You don't like to live near people so the forest is where you call home. Being under the same umbrella as you (rainbow monster) you warmed up to her quickly.
★ Not realizing you where hiding from people, she immediately introduced you her family. Bringing the joyful family into the dense forest you call home. It went surprisingly well, and now you're a friend to the little family.
★ Imagine all the new games she can play with someone who has wings! During a game of hide and seek you could hide on top of a the post office and win every time. In capture the flag you could hide the flag where nobody can reach! The possibilities are endless...
★ She doesn't understand why you hide yourself. After all, she's a Rainbow Monster and never has she needed to hide her identity. Everyone in home is so friendly, she can't imagine a place where people are mean.
★ You meet the rest of the town through her. It's a classic case of a extrovert adopting a introvert. She goes around Home knocking on people's doors and introducing you to them.
★ If that's too much for you, she does the same thing but over the phone so you don't need to leave your house. Introducing you to Frank first because he is her best friend and she's definitely told him about you beforehand.
Poppy
★ This mother hen is deeply concerned, if you live in the deep forest where do you get your food? What if you get lost in the forest?? Do you even have running water there??? These are the things that come to mind when she learns about you.
★ Do you like pastries? If you do she puts together a basket full of various cookies, puff pastries and cream puffs then gives it to Eddie for delivery. It took Eddie an hour to find your house because he kept getting lost.
★ Like you Poppy has wings. Except hers are used for baking, not flying. Technically she could fly if she really wanted to but she's too scared to try. By proxy, she's scared that you will hurt yourself while flying.
★ She covers her eyes when you take off from a high place because she can't bring herself to watch you jump into the air. What if you fall?!?
★ To quell your fear of being in public places she knits you a cape-like poncho that covers most of your body. Poppy can assure you that nobody in home would ever hurt you, but if this makes you more comfortable then so be it.
Sally
★ Being the towns theater kid, she's well-versed in story's about dragons. Congratulations, you got this star to be enamored with you. Never in her life has she seen a dragon! She asks you so. Many. Questions.
★ Sally likes to cast you in her plays as the hero character, despite the situational irony. Only casting you as the "bad guy" when you audition for the role. She refuses to promote any mean/harmful stereotypes in her plays!
★ When you tell her that the way dragons are portraid in old plays is inaccurate and problematic, she feels really really bad. She gives you some written copies of her performances (specifically the ones with dragons in them) for some constructive criticism.
★ Stories focusing on dragons are now among her favorite genres. Darker stories about dragons being hunted and driven out of towns are a bit too dark for her. More lighthearted stories about dragons collecting gold, jewels and knowledge are what she finds riveting.
★ The change in perspective inspires her to write manuscripts for stories about dragons. With your help, of course. What if she re-wrote old stories but instead of being "evil" the dragon is the hero?
i hope i can articulate this properly but the problem (for me) with how they've written most of the love interests for buck & eddie so far is that they've never gotten them integrated with the other main cast much at all. so it feels a little like they're taking away screen time i'd rather see spent on other people with scenes that are just buck + LI at home or eddie + LI at home (although they can at least get chris in there with those too)
like in restrospect it's kind of hilarious actually that taylor was involved in way more scenes with the 118 before she and buck got together then after
I think your feelings are echoed by many in the fandom, and it's the main reason why I stopped pondering the future for Natalia and Marisol. I personally don't see what a DIY-er and a death doula are going to bring to the firefam dynamic when neither character has a history with them (TayKay) or is a parent to someone's kid (Karen, Shannon). I do have a couple #unpopularopinions in relation to this, though. o1. Difficulty integrating has not been limited to Buck and Eddie Lis. Michael was a main. He had his best friends, his kids. But did his love life get a lot of attention prior to the hospital explosion? And then why did the hospital explosion episode even happen? To give those characters a friendly sendoff. Had Rockmond never been let go over his actions, we can't say that part of his story would have gotten any better.
Maddie is a main. She has a child with a firefighter. They're getting married. Why does Maddie go missing in big moments? Why was she not around during the dispatch fire or Henren's vow renewal? Why is she not having "girl talk" with Hen and Karen, her soon-to-be-husband's best friends? Why is she so isolated that the fandom can't even agree on who would be her maid-of-honor? o2. Buck and Eddie can't both have first responder LIs, I'm sorry. Yes, it's the logical choice if the show wants to make new characters "fit", but that would leave only one of the mains with a LI as a background presence - Hen. I realize that the show isn't actually for us gays, but having the lesbian relationship be the one with intentionally less screen time is a path I'd prefer they not take. o3. Not directing at any specific person because I don't know the opinions of every single one of you, but I will repeat something I said the other day and apply it to future LIs. *I* think it's too little, too late not only to get the GA on board with Buddie, but also to get the fandom - the Buddie shippers - on board with other LIs. The excuse for not liking outside relationships has been that they don't feel like part of the family (agree there), but had Tim shut down the possibility of Buddie for good with Ana, or brought in a new LI for Buck in 4B that wasn't previously criticized...we wouldn't be having these conversations today. Lucy comes in as a first responder and people hate for the cheating angle, sure, but what really stung for most of them was the reminder that the fate of Buck and Eddie would never have been a debate were we watching a man and a woman as opposed to two men. Eddie could fall in love in season seven and the reaction would be "Why does Chris need a new mom when he already has Buck???" Um, because Eddie is supposed to be straight? The only way for Buddie to be co-parents without the confirmation would be if we were watching a queerplatonic relationship. Except...neither one is queer.
You know when you try to clean a stain and somehow make it look worse than it already was? That's what it feels like to watch this show and those characters post-s4.
Media literacy = 0.
I'm going to assume that these people watched those 3 begins episode once and didn't pay a lot of attention, and also potentially mixed up Tommy and Deluca. Because Tommy as misogynist and racist, lesbophobic even? We have no clear indicator for any of those things. (From Deluca there is a comment that is a bit if not lesbophobic but going in the fetishizing direction but that's it).
Tommy was cold to Chim, and we then learn from Eli that the team won't allow themselves to care for a "new puppy" without knowing it will make it, saying that friends die in this line of work. With an ounce of media literacy, it can be concluded that the team has had some bad experience in that regard. Also, Gerrard is the driving force to show Chim the cold shoulder and treat him like shit. ALL the others (except Eli) follow suit. Gerrard may call them "boys" and pretend to be jovial with them, but he has a very authoritarian way to run things, and an intimidating nature, which becomes very clear in the way he gives Hen not one but two dressing downs.
Tommy's "fat head" gets "clearer" though after Chim saved his life; they make up and are friendly with each other.
And when Hen joins, we don't really see or hear much of anything from Tommy to her. When Gerrard initially introduces her as the diversity hire, Tommy gives him a look that, similar to Chim's could be read as "did you have to put it like that?" Chim actually says it but Tommy doesn't.
And then Tommy makes a remark about bitchiness coming from Hen, which is the only openly negative thing he says/does. And... he kinda has at least a bit of a point? Chimney tried to befriend Hen (as he did with Tommy), and Hen brushed him off because she didn't want any pity. Which is totally understandable in the circumstances of how awfully Gerrard treats her, I'm not blaming her in the slightest, but she also didn't make it easy for someone who genuinely wanted to show her he cared.
When she gives that big speech about them seeing her for who she is, there is no negative reaction from Tommy. He looks at Gerrard, no smirk or anything positively expectant but rather a somewhat worried look before Gerrard starts his sarcastic slow clap. That's all you can see there.
THEN, however, both Deluca and Tommy congratulate Hen on a job well done when she went against Gerrard's orders and found that boy in the pond. They shake her hand, pat her back, admit they wouldn't have found the kid in time.
And ALSO we learn that many of the team actually filed complaints against Gerrard for his treatment of Hen. He likely was one of them, because that's how you set up a narrative; you show these characters who initially seemed a bit antagonistic have come around and display a positive attitude, and then you imply they actually had a part in bringing the real villain down.
And yes, in Bobby begins they are ALL on really good terms. They hang out together after work; Tommy and Chim quote movies at each other and laugh about references only they understand. He and Hen tease each other and laugh with each other, and he gets along with Bobby really well too, even after Bobby suspends Deluca - a at this point roughly decade long friend and partner of Tommy's.
That ep spans quite a bit of time because it covers the time Bobby has to find his footing and then also gets to start cooking for the team - that's not a 2-3 weeks time span but more about a year maybe or so.
So, when you take all this and you want to view Tommy a little unfavorably but factually, you could say he was a flawed character, an average douchebro in a macho environment who didn't have the balls to stand up to other bullies and rather went along with them out of peer pressure/fear of repercussions but eventually came around, admitted his mistakes and grew as a person. Which is a thing people can do.
And if you want to see it a little more favorably he was a young guy who tried to maintain a position of recognition in a really toxic macho environment, was the recipient of gay jokes (i.e. bullying) himself, likely saw someone die or get seriously injured and maybe blamed himself for it, or didn't want to get attached again, and wasn't brave enough to step out of line under a really authoritarian, toxic captain, but did the right thing and reported him, admitted his mistakes and grew as a person. Which is a thing people can do, and which takes strength and guts, especially when you're a) young/somewhat new to a team and b) a closeted gay guy, which we now know in hindsight.
Btw, that is NOT retconning. Aside from him mentioning dating women (which is a thing closeted gay men do), we did not see Tommy have or even enjoy relationships with women.
This is a) the straight until proven otherwise mindset and b) goes against all the usual attitudes of saying it's okay and possible for someone to figure themselves out later in life. What people praise in Buck and want in Eddie is something they now call retconning in regards of Tommy, just because they don't like it. They're no better than those straight facebook boomers who go "Omg you made Buck gay!"
Sorry for the long rant, but I've sort of memorized those scenes now, lol.
'they want us to care about tommy' yeah, that's what i'm criticising. i don't want to be told i should care about a character who has previously only been established as a racist (and misogynistic and lesbophobic) bully bc 'uwu we've retconned him so he was gay the whole and the people whose lives he helped make a misery have forgiven him but we're not gonna show how he worked to earn that forgiveness just take our word for it so you should definitely root for him to end up with one of our leads' never mind you posting gifs of him smiling in chimney begins when he was literally being a racist bully
"the people whose lives he helped make a misery have forgiven him", isn't exactly a retcon though is it? It was already established by bobby begins again that he, hen, chimney and bobby were on good enough terms that they were going out for drinks together and he's shown patching things up with hen and chimney in their respective episodes. Like it or not, "redeemable asshole", was pretty well established for a throwaway side character. It would be very strange narratively if hen or chimney suddenly brought up his past problematic behaviour 10+ years on when (offscreen or not) it's been established they've moved past it and forgiven him.
and i've truly no idea what gifs you're talking about? are you mixing up which person you're sending these to? I've definitely not made any gifsets of him in chimney begins and i don't even know i've reblogged any tbh.
Prompt: Buck and Reader are dating (maybe even engaged) before buck joins 118. Buck doesn't tell about reader at anyone in the station. Eddie could already be part of 118. And then buck gets hurt or something and they meet reader. Athena loves her and then can we have a scene of buck&reader with the fire kids.
Emergency Contact
Tumblr media
Evan Buckley x Reader
Warnings: fem!reader, mentions of hospitals and injuries, a mention of pregnancy
Category: Angst and fluff
Word Count: 3.3k
Author’s Note: Italics is a flashback :)
----
A house fire, a normal occurrence for the 118. They arrive, Buck and Eddie make their way through the house whilst Hen and Chim tend to the others. The family that lived there, the Smiths, couldn't find their daughter outside and figured she was still inside so they had gone in to find her.
Buck and Eddie had spilt up when they got inside, Buck going left and Eddie going right. Eddie had found the little girl and managed to get her out of the house, her parents were grateful that he brought her back to them.
“Where’s Buck ?” Bobby turns to Eddie.
Eddie glances around, unsure as to where his friend was. “I thought he was right behind me, I swear I saw him on the stairs”
Bobby radioed, “Buckley, come in”
Before they could get an answer, there was a loud crash from inside the house. Eddie and Bobby run back in to see Buck on the floor of the kitchen, the ceiling had a massive hole in it and he was covered in dust. Buck tries to sit up a little too fast but falls onto his back. It seems like the floor had given out under him and he had fallen through.
“Buck?” Eddie calls to him, checking his pupils. “Yeah, definite concussion,” he tugs on Buck’s coat, feeling his abdomen area. “At least 2 broken ribs, if not more.” Eddie looks up at their captain, his hand still gently feeling Buck’s abdomen.
Bobby comes over, grabbing Buck’s feet as Eddie sits Buck up carefully and loops his arms under his. The two men carry him out, Chimney rolling a stretcher over to them. From that point, Hen and Chim took over, checking his vitals and if they had missed any other fractions or broken bones. The ambulance pulled off first, Chimney in the driver’s seat and Hen in the back with Buck. The firetruck followed, both vehicles headed to the hospital.
---
“Did anyone call Maddie ?” Hen breaks the silence filled waiting room. Bobby looks up at her, Hen speaks again, “she is his emergency contact, isn't she?”
Something about that didn’t sound right to Bobby. He hadn’t been there when Buck started as a probie but he had gone over everyones forms when he became captain. He can’t remember who Buck’s emergency contact was but he didn’t think it was Maddie.
“Does anyone have her number ?” Bobby asks, no one answers. “I’m gonna head back to the station, I'll give her a call and come back. If anything changes, let me know?” Eddie answers with a yeah and Bobby heads out.
Once he arrived back at the station, he searched through the drawers of files - which truthfully, should be organized better, but that was a problem for another time. Once finding the file, his finger runs down the page. Maddie’s name was on the form but as a secondary contact. y/n l/n was the name listed as primary contact so he called this mystery woman. She answers after the first 2 rings.
“Hi, is this y/n?”
“It is, who’s this?”
“I’m captain Bobby Nash with the 118.”
“What can I do for you, captain ?”
“You’re listed as Evan’s primary emergency contact.” there was a pause in the conversation, the line had gone silent.
“Yeah, is he alright ?” the woman’s voice returns.
“He fell through the floor during a call today. He has a concussion and a few broken ribs- one of the ribs seems to have punctured a lung and he’s in surgery now. I was calling to notify you, we’re at the hospital if you’d like to join us”
“Thank you for calling, I'll be there soon” and with that, she hung up. Bobby still had no idea who this woman was or how she knew Buck. The lack of emotion in the call didn’t help him gauge who it might be. He pushed the thought from his mind and called Maddie - surely whoever this y/n woman was, was obviously important to Buck if she was listed before Maddie but Maddie was his sister and she deserved to know so he called her anyways.
When Bobby returned back, Buck was still in surgery. He sat down just as Athena arrived. A box of donuts in one hand and one of those huge containers of coffee in the other, Bobby got up and helped her, not before pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“You didn’t have to come by,” he tells her as he sets the thing of coffee on the table in the middle of the room, she gives him a small smile. “Buck might be trouble but he’s still one of ours. I’d show up for any of them, you know that” she nudges him with her shoulder softly, he smiles at her once more. Everyone gets up, helping themselves to the coffee and donuts that Athena brought- they all thanked her as they all know the horrors of hospital food.
A woman walks in, she’s at the nurses desk which is across from where the team sat. She’s asking for Evan Buckley and the nurse points her in the direction of the team in the waiting room. She approaches, her hands shoved in her sweater pocket- rather Buck’s sweater pocket. Bobby had seen him show up to work in that very sweater a few days before.
“You must be y/n” Bobby stands, his hand stretched out to her.
“I am, you’re Bobby, right ?” your hand comes out to reach his, shaking it. It didn’t take long for Bobby to notice the large diamond on your ring finger. Your hand lets go of his, returning to its spot in your pocket. Bobby gives you a small smile which you mirror.
“Everyone, this is y/n. Buck’s- sorry, I didn’t ask. How do you know Buck?” Bobby asks you, you glance around the room. Everyone's eyes were on you.
“I’m Buck’s-”
“Y/n!” a woman calls for you. Turning around, you see Maddie approaching you. “Mads!” your arms open as she gets closer. She embraces you in a hug, your hand rubbing up and back her back.
“Did you hear anything yet ?” she asks you, letting you go. Shaking your head, “I just got here”
“You know her too ?” Chimney pipes up from his chair, Maddie looks over at him. “Yeah, obviously. She’s Buck’s fiancee” she tells him, the entire room goes silent.
You look over at your sister in law, “they didn’t know that yet Mads” chuckling, you pat her back before taking a seat across from a woman in a police uniform. Maddie’s eyes went wide, her mouth slightly opened in shock. “Sorry! I thought you told them” she says, sitting beside Chimney. “I was about too but you called for me”
Everyone’s attention is on you, the woman sitting across from you speaks up. “Well, it’s nice to meet you” she says, “I’m Athena, Bobby’s wife” she introduces herself.
“Ah, so the whole family’s in law enforcement huh ?” you smile, Athena chuckles. “Seems like it. What do you do ?”
“I’m a nurse over at General”
“I thought I had seen you somewhere before” Athena smiles.
The room goes back to quiet, the team talking amongst themselves. Maddie sat beside you and on her other side was Chimney, you had seen him for the pictures Maddie showed you when she started seeing him. Beside him was a woman, she wore glasses and had a friendly smile- Hen. Buck had told you about her and her wife, they seemed like nice people. Sitting beside Hen was a man, cute with somewhat of a resting bitch face- that was Eddie, Buck’s best friend. Buck practically lived at his house when you worked night shifts and you had also seen a million and one photos of his son, Christoper, who was the sweetest little boy on the planet from what you had heard.
Your hand rested on your lap, your thumb pushing and pulling the engagement ring on your finger back and forth.
“He must really love you because that’s one hell of a rock” Athena was pacing the room and was now beside you, her hand reaching for yours to take a closer look at the ring. You laugh, “it is, isn't it?”
“I have to ask, how long have you two been engaged ? Because he’s never mentioned you.”
“Oh I know,” you hum, “we like to keep things low key but um, it’s been 2 years since we got engaged. We aren't really in a rush to get married.” you tell her.
“2 years? That’s a long time to keep a secret like that”
“Yeah, it’s been a challenge- but it’s not like he didn’t want to tell you guys. He just didn’t know how. Oh you know how he is- actions over words.”
You and Athena talk a bit more, she tells you how Bobby proposed to her on Christmas Eve. She showed you a picture from when they got married- her own massive ring adorning her finger. You told her about how Buck proposed to you.
“Babe! The pancakes are going to get cold!” you shouted for your boyfriend from the kitchen of your apartment.
“I’m coming woman! Calm down” he shouts back, his footsteps coming closer with each step.
Buck had the weekend off and so did you- a rare occurrence for the two of you. You decided that instead of going out to get breakfast like you normally would, that you would cook instead. Hence why you were up at 10:15 on a Saturday morning and why your boyfriend’s shirt that you were wearing, was covered in flour and eggs.
Buck’s arms wrapped around your waist, your attention on the stove. His hands coming ups under your shirt to feel your bare skin, he was busy peppering kisses down your neck. You nudge him with your shoulder, “go sit down, I'll bring the pancakes over in a minute” you tell him and he hums. Pressing one more kiss to your neck, he untangles himself from you and goes to the table.
The layout of your apartment was a bit strange, the kitchen was by the front door but the kitchen didn’t have much space so your table was closer to your living room than the kitchen and there was a wall blocking you when you were in the kitchen so you weren’t able to see the table.
Now heading to the table with a plate in each hand, you were focused on not dropping the plates. That went out the window when you entered the room to see your boyfriend down on one knee with a velvet box in his hand.
“Buck” you breath
“Y/n, you are so amazing, you just- god, this is so cheesy but you really do take my breath away. Last night, I was laying beside you and I had this perfectly rehearsed speech that I was going to give you but it just doesn't make sense now. From the moment I met you, I knew you were special. You stood by my side and didn't complain when I worked long hours or didn't have time because I joined the fire department. You are the woman of my dreams and I would do anything for you. So I hope you would do me the honour of being my wife ?”
“Yes, oh my god yes” you lean down to kiss him. Buck smiles, “baby?”
“Hm?”
“You gotta put the plates down” he chuckles, you hadn't realized you were still holding the plates. Setting them down, Buck gets up. The ring that was in the box was now in his hand, he slid the ring on your finger. Holding your hand up, you admired the ring.
“I think this deserves a proper breakfast”
“I don’t think there’s anything better than this” he pulls you in for a hug.
Athena laughs when you tell her, “he ambushed you when you were making him breakfast ? This kid has no sense of the right time” you chuckles at her comment. “It was perfect. I don’t think I would have it any other way, you know?”
The doctor comes in, he asks for Buckley and all 7 of you stand. “Wow big group. Okay- we were able to patch the hole. He’ll need to be off work for the next 3-4 weeks before he can even consider going back but he should make a full recovery.” a few breaths of relief were let out around the room. “He’s in recovery now, I can take you in one at a time. Who would like to go first ?”
Everyone's looking at you and you glance over your shoulder. “Do any of you want to go ?” you ask, no one answers you.
“Maddie ?”
“I’m gonna get some air and some coffee and then I'll be there. Give him a hug for me” she gives your hand a squeeze, you smile at her. Following the doctor down the hallway, you pass multiple rooms all with different families and people with different injuries. That’s one of the things you enjoyed about the hospital- if you looked past all the sadness, there were so many success stories, so many happy families.
Room 276 at the end of the hall was his. Buck was asleep, a few wires and such were hooked to him. Pulling a chair up to his bedside, your hand reached for him, holding it gently as your thumb rubbed the top of it. Your eyes drift to his monitor by his bedside, steady heartbeat and blood pressure. There was nothing to be concerned about yet you couldn't look away.
“y/n,” a faint whisper left his lips, you glanced down at your fiancee, his eyes barely opened.
“Buck,” you smiled, your hand coming up to touch his face. He nuzzled closer to your hand, turning his head ever so slightly to press a kiss to the palm of your hand.
“Can I- water?” you let go of him to get the glass from the counter. Pouring some water in it, you stick the straw in the cup before holding the straw to his lips. He sighed and looked at you as you set the cup down. “I guess the secret’s out ?” he smiles, you nod.
“Maddie let it slip, but I was about to tell them so it’s fine” you kiss his forehead.
“Is everyone here?”
“Yeah, in the waiting room. They all thought you’d look horrendous so I came in to check, lucky me right ?” you joke, Buck lets out a weak laugh before his hand comes up to his chest.
“Ow, don’t make me laugh” he pouts, you smile at him. Sitting at the edge of the chair, your hand finds his hair, brushing it back softly.
“Surgery isn't a good look on you”
“Hey, I always look good” he pouts once more.
---
The few weeks go by a lot quicker than expected and Buck is set to return to the 118 on Monday. Athena had helped you plan a little surprise get together for Buck but you had just told him that you were headed over to Bobby and Athena’s for the day because you were going shopping with Athena. You left home around noon and helped them set up all day and you called Buck around 6.
“Hey babe, how’s shopping going ?”
“It’s alright, we’re back at the house now. Bobby was saying that you should swing by, we could all have dinner together”
“Hm yeah, that sounds good. I’ll be there soon”
Now you wait. The entire team was already there, everyone scattered amongst the living room, waiting for him to arrive. He knocked on the door, Athena shouted for him to come in. He walked in, everyone waited for him to round the corner, the surprise evident on his face.
“What’s all this?” he smiles, he makes his way down the stairs.
“Welcome back” Bobby goes over to give him a hug. Buck makes his way around the room, saying hello to everyone. Eventually, he finds you in the kitchen with Karen who says hello to him and then leaves the two of you in the kitchen.
“So did you really go shopping ?” he asks, his arm over your shoulder and your arm wraps around his waist.
“Yeah but for party supplies” you smile at him, he leans down and kisses your head. Chris, Denny and Harry all come into the kitchen on the hunt for sweets that you previously heard Eddie, Athena and Hen all telling them that they weren't allowed to have. Of course they assumed that if they sweet-talk Buck that he would give them, and he did, he never said no to those boys.
All three of them made themselves comfortable on the couch as Buck returned with a plate of cupcakes for them. Buck sat beside them, pulling you onto his lap.
“Do you have any scars from the surgery ?” Denny asks him, looking over at Buck. “Yeah, do you wanna see ?” Buck asks, the 3 boys nod eagerly. You smile at them, Buck unbuttons the top of his shirt, pulling it to the side to show the boys the scar from the surgery. It was fairly tiny but still noticeable.
“Woah that’s cool!” “Can I poke it?” “That’s weird looking”
You and Buck laugh at the responses- boys will be boys. The 3 boys ask a few more questions and Buck shows them a couple other scars that he had gotten over the year, eventually they get bored of Buck and his stories and go off to find someone else. You leave Buck in the living room as he was talking to Maddie and Chimney.
Now in the backyard, you and Athena were talking about when you'd actually go shopping when someone bumped into your leg. Looking down, you see Nia beside you, you pick her up and hold her, Nia sitting comfortably on your hip now. The two of you go along with your conversation and Nia cuddles into your side, you glance down at the little girl who was smiling at you, you give her a smile too.
Buck’s arm wraps around your shoulder, he presses a kiss to your temple. “Hey,” he smiles before leaning forward to take a peak at Nia, “Hey kiddo” he reaches out to hold her hand, she smiles at him.
“You 3 look comfortable together” Hen says as she makes her way over with Karen. Buck laughs.
“If you’re open to babysitting, feel free to take the kids anytime” Karen jokes, you smile. “I might take you up on that. It’d be like to have an actual kid around rather than just Buck” you laugh, Buck pouts. “Hey! I’m not that bad” the 3 women all give him looks. Athena pats his shoulder, “that’s what you think Buckaroo”
“Having the kids around would be good practice” Your fiancee thinks out loud.
“Practice for what, darling?”
“You know, one day maybe we’d have kids”
“Oh not now? Not a fan of the whole pregnancy glow thing ?”
“Oh I am, I do it right-” “don’t finish that sentence” you laugh, leaning up to give  him a kiss. You had a feeling that your fiancé’s family was about to become yours too.
for the askmeme: Buddie, 'Don't look down'
"Don't look down. Not yet!" Buck waves an admonishing finger in the air, a boisterous grin nearly splitting his face.
Eddie rolls his eyes, sharing a sideways glance with Chris before his son bursts into giggles and covers his eyes with his hands. Eddie sighs and does the same--although honestly, he doesn't see how whatever surprise his fiance (nope, still not used to the burst of effervescent joy in his chest when he even thinks that word...how's he ever going to survive once they're married?) is cooking up in the water could possibly compare to the sight of Buck bounding all over the deck of the small rental boat. His partner is sun-kissed and golden under the sun, board shorts and lifevest doing absolutely nothing to hide the well-muscled body Eddie could (and does) spend hours exploring. Vacation is a good look on Buck, is what Eddie's saying.
"Okay, couple more minutes!" Buck calls, and Eddie feels the familiar surge of his fiance's (nope, that's definitely a dopey smile trying to form on Eddie's face--the wedding pictures are just going to be rolls and rolls of Eddie making heart eyes...Chim amd Hen are gonna have a field day) magic around them. There is a bubbling, hissing noise somewhere to the side of the boat, like water suddenly being massively agitated, and Chris sits up straighter beside him.
"Buck, c'mon, I wanna see!" Chris wheedles, fascinated as always whenever Buck breaks out the magic. Eddie wants to see now, too. There were no spoken words of a spell, so Buck's doing that thing where he has an idea in his head, and magic kindly just sort of rearranges reality to accomplish it.
Five years, and Eddie still doesn't think he's ever going to quite get used to the casual way Buck wields enough magic to give the Fae pause. Or the fact that all he wants to do with it is help the people the 118 are called out to help, and make Eddie and Chris smile.
Okay, and spoil little Jee-Yun rotten (everyone's pretty sure Buck would've been her favorite uncle, regardless, but Albert playfully cries foul, insisting it's not fair to ask him to compete with someone who magicked a goddamn pony into existence for their niece's last birthday party).
"Oh don't worry Superman...you're gonna do more than see," Buck laughs. "Almost...almost...okay, you can look now!"
The first thing Eddie sees when he and Chris lean over the side of the boat and look down into the water is a merperson. She grins up at them, sharklike teeth on full display, and tosses them a friendly wave. Her grayish-green scales sparkle a little in the sunlight, her deepset, black eyes shining happily. Eddie vaguely recognizes her as part of the pod that were offering guided snorkeling tours at the beach yesterday. Buck had struck up a conversation with them while Chris was splashing around in the surf, but neither he, Eddie, nor Chris had been very interested in snorkeling.
The second thing he notices is what looks like a huge bowl made out of solid magic bobbing up and down with the waves, shimmering with the sunshine-gold light of Buck's power. It's similar to the shields he's seen his partner throw up in various emergencies, but somehow even more tangible, more solid. It's nearly transparent, except for the faint golden shine, but Eddie gets the sense that he could touch it, climb onto it, find it every bit as solid as the boat. The bottom half of the bowl is sunk beneath the waterline, but the interior looks dry as a bone. There's...are those seats in the bottom?
Christopher's eyes are wide as dinner plates, and he looks up at Buck excitedly. Buck, for his part, is rocking back and forth on his heels, the delighted, eager expression that always makes Eddie's chest ache with love for him plastered across his face.
"So this is Carina, and she was telling me yesterday that her pod does private tours of some of the shipwrecks off the coastline here. There's a merchant vessel that sank about 250 years ago right under us, and Carina's gonna show us all the cool stuff in it!"
"A real shipwreck?" Chris repeats breathlessly, for a moment sounding like a little boy again and not the too-cool teenager Eddie still can't believe he has on his hands.
"Yup. And get this...there's evidence they sank because they were attacked by a kraken!"
Eddie feels his own eyes widen at that. Kraken have been extinct in the wild for going on a hudred and fifty years...this is sounding cooler and cooler.
"Normally we take people down in SCUBA gear...but looks like your dad made you your very own submarine," the mermaid laughs, reaching up with a webbed hand to rap on the side of Buck's construct. "And this feels like it could withstand a kraken attack all by itself, so you're going to be the first kid to see this with your own eyes, little man." She grins up at Christopher, and it's all Eddie can do to keep his son from jumping off the side of the boat right then and there. When he looks back over his shoulder, Buck's excited puppy look has morphed into the awestruck, achingly fragile expression he gets anytime someone assumes he is Chris's other parent.
Calls it like it is, as far as Eddie's concerned, but he still has trouble convincing Buck of that, sometimes. That's fine. He and Chris have already discussed it, and they're hitting Buck with step-parent adoption papers as soon as the ink on the marriage license is dry.
Buck laughs, swinging himself down into the construct and helping Chris and Eddie climb down. Then he claps his hands together and more golden magic starts crawling up the sides, forming walls and a ceiling, until they are completely encased in a transparent sphere of magic, rocking gently in the surf. Carina waves to them through the walls and dives under the water, swimming down a short ways.
The interior of the sphere helpfully shapes itself into surprisingly comfortable seating, and Buck leans over to whisper in Chris's ear. His son nods eagerly and summons a burst of spring-green magic to his hands.
"Slow and steady," Buck says easily, sinking down next to Eddie and leaning comfortably against him. "Just follow where Carina points...I've got your back if it starts to get too hard, but you're in control."
Chris reaches his hands slowly forward, the orb moving with his movements. Slowly, they sink beneath the surface of the waves, the world becoming a shimmering haze of blue-green. Their mermaid guide lets Chris practice guiding the orb with his magic for a few minutes, and then when he shoots her a thumbs up, she takes off with a flick of her powerful tail.
"Nice view, huh?" Buck says, sinking comfortably against his side and lacing their hands together. He's watching the sunstreaked water become slowly darker as Carina leads them down towards the shipwreck, pointing out a dolphin when they pass it, and then leaning forward to examine a beautiful coral reef.
Eddie just watches their faces as his two favorite people chatter back and forth, pointing out interesting sights and making increasingly wild guesses about what they'll see at the shipwreck.
"The best," Eddie agrees softly.
i talked 2 my bf abt this like. a week ago or something but. i think a lotta the mercs were farmboys.
Engie is a given because im like 90% sure its cannon but also he’s living in texas in the 1960′s. youve gotta have a farm my man. maybe not animals? like he seems like he’d have a family horse and he would Know people with cows but! probably grew shit like corn and wheat and maybe rotated some vegetables in there. do not START on me saying he’d have texas longhorn because their meat quality is SHIT and he would have red angus if anything gobdless.
Pyro I’ve talked abt before but I feel like they had to have had some farm experience! A lotta kids outside of the city basically had to have at least a little bit, and my hc for them is that they lived on a black angus ranch. They ain’t too friendly (because they rlly only see people once or twice a year so it makes sense) so I feel like Pyro was prolly one of those farmhand kids who helped their dad chase around cattle when it was time to wean calves or send em to butchering. More than once completely bowled over by a cow but they just. Hand in the air and thumbs up motion. Get back up son we’ve got a job to do type deal. They probably grew their own corn too because a lotta farmers used to do that.
Soldier is a midwest guy so i feel like he’d have family chickens or turkeys for eggs! ive never actually been anywhere like. “Midwest” (dakotas range is what im talkin abt) but i know turkey hunting is fairly good over there and solider is just a chicken kind of pal to me! he would love these clucking creatures and would carry them around under his arm like a pillow. they are completley content to be held by him. Definitely a poultry guy though. Maybe could have had goats as well? He seems like a goat guy, I don’t have a lot of experience w goats but he seems like one of those weirdos who grew up with a goat.
Sniper grew up on a sheep ranch, and again im like. pretty sure thats cannon but like. if its not oh well. defo spent a lot of time out in the pasture with sheep just petting em and making sure they werent getting themselves caught in barbwire. Being out with the herd was probably a safehaven type of thing for him. They probably had some dogs to help with herding too, which isn’t really farming, but they’re adjacent enough that i’m going to count it.
Heavy definitely farmed. I don’t know anything at all about Russia’s growing season or what crops are grown there, but it’s gotta be fairly short so I’m imagining he had to grow and preserve a lot of root vegetables to keep for winter. And it IS cannon that his family does a lot of hunting! (albeit for bears) but I feel like they woulda had some chickens as well. Maybe a small flock in a warm hen-house close to their own home so the critters in the surrounding woods wouldnt get them. But like Engineer I feel like Heavy’s family woulda been more farming focused, espeically with such a short growing season and having to prepare for incoming winter.
Everybody else I really just imagine as cityguys (scout could not survive on a farm he would see a big steer out in the pasture by itself and immediatly get chased around by it upon climbing the fence to say hi)
At the request of @chimamire-no-sakura, MC OC YUU's reaction if she is constantly ill due to the overload of her work Crowley:
Dorm leaders:
Riddle : He would be very concerned. Let the principal ask for help a few times, that's okay. But pass everything on to MC without worrying about the fact that she has to manage school work and that she had to face several Overblots without Crowley pointing the tip of his nose to come and help them and abuse his kindness, that our red head will not be able to take it! Would be able to threaten Crowley to put a collar on him or find a rule that says this kind of behavior is seen as abuse and that he would report it if he didn't stop there!
Leona: Leona is the first to exploit people (* cough * Ruggie * cough *) to do his chores for Him. But unlike, he would never allow himself to make Ruggie work to the point of making him sick, so when you go after his herbivore the lion will roar! Would be able to go find Crowley in his office and threaten to make him disappear with his One Magic. He'll even convince Crowley to let MC have preset schedules so that she can rest and make up for missed hours of sleep with him.
Azul: Poor Crowley, our Octoman already has it in the palm of his hand. So when he sees how much the NRC Principal is exploiting our dear MC, he makes sure the birdman understands his pain. Will have no problem blackmailing him and threatening him to reveal his darkest secrets without forgetting the fact that he is left a student without magic to face Overblots in his place and to make her live in conditions of deplorable life. It would be a shame if the local press learned of these unfortunate events, wouldn't it? He'll make sure Jade and Floyd keep an eye on this birdman. In the meantime, he's going to give MC well-deserved days off and offer her some sweets to "try out what's new on the menu".
Kalim: He's worried to death! It's not right of the Principal to give so much work when MC is completely exhausted and sick! Would ask Jamil for advice and in the meantime take care of MC giving her rest and good food!
Vil: Vil is for hard work, but this is too much! Watch how that pretty face is now covered in dark circles, stressful pimples, those dry cracked lips and sickly complexion! It's absolutely shameful (Not for MC of course. It is for Crowley)! Vil would use his notoriety to manipulate Crowley, threaten to use his popularity to get him fired on the spot (and the Birdman knows full well that a dedicated Fanbase is very effective with petitions and mass reporting). Our Roi des Poisons will then take care of giving MC revitalizing potions and healing so that she can relax and rest, Vil will pamper her like a queen.
Idia: Would be very concerned about the situation! His favorite Waifu is not well and it breaks his heart! Then he remembers that he is a genius and that digging up secrets well hide in the interest and one of his many talents! Idia will certainly start digging up shameful photos of our dear bird man and posting them all over social media. He will also hack teachers' private files and threaten to sink the school if Crowley does not calm down, it would be a shame if the end of year exam papers were revealed to everyone for so little. is this not ? He would then certainly invite MC to come and rest in his room and they would eat lots of junk food while watching animated films.
Malleus: So there ... If the NRC doesn't end up in little ash heaps, Crowley will be lucky! Angry Malleus Draconia is not a pretty scene. Crowley still has enough savvy not to be in the bad graces of one of the most powerful wizards of Twisted Wonderland and what is more, a future king! Our Principal will certainly try to be forgiven from Malleus and MC by offering more pocket money to buy food, some small repairs to Ramshackle here and there and beg MC for mercy. After all, isn't she so nice? Meanwhile, while Crowley renovates Ramshackle and takes care of his own work, Malleus takes care of MC by letting her sleep in Diasomnia's prettiest room, passionately chatting about gargoyles, and improvising a little picnic in a corner of the forest that Malleus particularly appreciates because you can observe the stars perfectly.
The Vice-leaders:
Trey: He activates his "mother hen" mode! MC is no longer allowed to get out of bed until she is perfectly rested and regained her strength! Trey certainly wouldn't see himself threatened by the Principal, but he would take care of MC's work in addition to his own and enlist the help of our duo Adeuce so that MC can recover as soon as possible! He will cook good little meals full of vitamins and maybe soups too. No one is allowed to come and disturb MC while she is asleep and would certainly bring out his authoritarian side if he hears too much noise likely to disturb the young woman's rest.
Ruggie: Ruggie can understand what it's like to be exploited, but he gets something out of it. He's already very busy with Leona and her schoolwork, so he can't help her with that, but he's trying to cheer her up. An example, he shares with her her donuts (which is a great gesture of affection from her) and making her laugh. Sometimes he would drop one of his tasks to make one of MC's in its place and that she could rest. And maybe even let her stroke his hyena ears, it's a win-win combo, isn't it?
Jade: Well, well. The poor little thing here, does she need a little help? Jade would love to be his serving knight. While he distracts her from her extra work to show her her terrariums and slip a few drops of the sleeping potion into her drink to go to bed on the sofa in Azul's office, Jade thinks it would be very beneficial to go visit dear Crowley, it's been a long time since Octavinelle has done business with him. Our dear moray eel is quite up for bringing his dear twin with him, after all the crazier we are the more we laugh, right? Jade can assure you that after this charming, perfectly friendly visit, MC will be relieved of many obligations. Let our dear human rest and when she is well, let's celebrate with a long and exciting hike during which a lovely picnic awaits them at the end of the path. Jade has made her favorite chocolate fondant, it would be silly to waste such a great treat if she isn't fit enough to enjoy it.
Jamil: He's very worried even if he doesn't show it. Due to his own obligations, he cannot help MC but he can convince Kalim to describe a letter to his father to stop the donations that the Al-Asim family makes to the school. Kalim will not notice the "manipulation" and will think that the idea came from him and Jamil will not be in trouble. Once Crowley is bold enough to come to Scarabia to talk about the letter and the gifts, it's Jamil who takes control of the conversation without giving the impression. He convinces the Principal to stop giving unjustified and excess work to MC, in exchange the donations will come back. But this birdman must stop treating MC like his servant. Once the deal is done, Jamil cooks MC's favorite meals and makes sure she gets a good rest. When she gets better, a banquet will be organized to celebrate her recovery.
Rook: Oh Oh! But what happened to that graceful face? It has its charm, of course, but it lacks life and joy! Hmm? Oh, this is the job Crowley is supposed to do but has MC to do it for him? These are not manners, they are sorely lacking in elegance. Well ... The bird hunt is on. Rook is going to chase Crowley so hard and so viciously that our dear Principal will develop paranoia. Birdman nearly had a heart attack when an arrow brushed too close by when he was in the hallway giving MC even more work! And every time Crowley wants to give more work or blackmail him for money and essentials Ramshackle, a new arrow appears. Always closer, always more threatening. Our dear hunter said to himself that it would be nice to take MC to take his mind off things, why not have a barbecue? He will personally take care of the meat. Everyone loves chicken.
Ortho: Has already offered to destroy the school with his self-integrating weapons and threatened to reduce Crowley to ashes with his subatomic cannons. No one destroys the health of their Big Sister without impunity! From the day Wheat Robot Boy stormed into his office, the Principal has avoided the flaming haired child and MC like the plague.
Lilia: He will act like the responsible adult that he is and his fatherly side will immediately come out! Lilia would be able to walk into the Principal's office with the biggest and brightest smile in Twisted Wonderland. He would obviously be accompanied by a few agents from the Child Protection and Aid Service, these people would be delighted to have a little conversation with the bird man and he cannot flee because he is trapped. in his own office. While all these beautiful people are having this lovely conversation, Lilia is going to take MC to Diasomnia and he will make his special recipe for oyster and tomato pancakes, it will surely cheer her up! And surely taking a restorative nap in the company of Silver, that would be a charming picture to watch!
After Ankhou died, I have had a very hard time keeping up with both manual loft maintenance and media work.
Manual loft maintenance is the higher priority of the two, so that's were the energy I have has been focused.
The birds are happy, but I have failed to advertise availability for two months.
The birds currently available do not meet the specifications of anyone on my wait list, and to prevent the loft from getting crowded, we've frozen rescue intake and implemented strict hatch control.
Breeding pairs on the roster are only permitted to hatch their first clutch with another bird also on the roster.
Every subsequent clutch will be swapped with fakes at least until all currently available cocks go home.
As I am not caught up on editing photos yet, I will have to make due with listing the name, parents, and temperament of available birds.
Please message me privately, email [email protected], or call/text 706-993-7452 for more information.
1. Raddish
Mia x Cara
Retired. ($20)
Was friendly as a young bird, but has not had the opportunity to express temperament in Qt.
Not to be bred under any circumstance due to one known and a second possible cancer in his blood line.
2. Wukong
Blue Check Chinese Owl cock
Loft Bird $30.
Wukong is an excellent father that will definitely benefit a breeding program.
He's very human shy, unless his mate isn't.
Chances of him bonding with a patient person that will let him make friends at his own pace are decent, but I can't guarantee it in good conscience.
3. Farthing
Pied Almond Blue T-pattern het for Toy Stencil mixed cock.
Betty x Hagrid
Comfortable ($50)
A bit of a himbo, Farthing is one of our better known cocks.
He likes people and often gets in my lap or on my shoulder, when not distracted by being the loft bi-cycle.
He's pretty and sweet, but Giant Homer and Frillback ancestry make him a big boy with long flights and tail feathers that will need a lot of room.
4. Leela
Khaki T-pattern mixed hen
Cody x Rigby
Comfortable ($50)
Leela is a mellow little sweety that likes my lap and shoulders.
She's a great pumper, but chain lays and starts a new clutch INCREDIBLY early! Leaving nestlings well fed, but largely unguarded.
5. Todoroki
Tippler
Sooty Ash Red Bar cock
Rescue ($20)
Todoroki is an EXTREMELY high energy breed that will need a LOT of space to free fly most of the time.
He would be happier in a loft than as an indoor pet.
6. Amiga
Blue T-pattern mix hen
Pippin x Cookie
Retired ($20)
Amiga is going to be a pain.
She hates people to the point of trying to break herself to get away from them, and she cannot under any circumstance be allowed to hatch an egg.
She provides her own hatch control by nest cup dancing on her hatchlings. She has been given two chances to hatch clutches, and eviscerated all three peeps this way.
So she will need to be housed in a loft with minimal interaction other than obsessively switching her eggs with fakes.
7. Dolly
Blue Bar mixed hen
Pippin x Cookie
Loft Bird ($30)
Dolly is her sister Amiga's opposite in almost every way.
She's only retired from my program because she's the hen on the roster that likes people the least.
She is an amazing, devoted mother and would make a fantastic foster hen.
8. Wess
Blue tailmark mixed cock
Wukong x Suki
Curious ($40)
Wess is shy and dislikes being approached directly, but often chills nearby preening my clothing and occasionally hops up on my knee.
He is a TERRIBLE dad! It took him two weeks to start helping Dolly feed their nestlings and never sat on them when they were little enough to need it.
9. Arco
Pied Ash Red T-pattern mixed cock
Vito x Cookie
Loft Bird ($30)
Arco is uninterested in people, but not afraid of them.
He'd be a good partner for a nervous rescue bird, or an absolutely amazing foster dad!
He's devoted to his mate and her nest and doesn't start shit with flock mates once he's settled.
10. Bridget
Blue T-pattern feral cock
Rescue ($20)
This is the boy we found with a broken wing and foot on the sidewalk under an overpass.
He's healed entirely and though flighty and skittish, gets along very well with his flockmates.
Like Arco, he takes a mate, picks a nest, settles, and doesn't start shit.
He'd make an excellent foster or partner for a skittish rescue.
11. Scan
Pied ash red cock
Cherub x Tandy
Loft Bird ($30)
Scan is Cherub and Tandy's first hatch.
I was initially going to keep him, but his brother, Nimbus, has a better temperament.
Scan is a flamboyantly aggressive pain in the ass, constantly starting shit with established pairs to earn himself a spot in the hierarchy.
He'd likely mellow out with fewer birds, but isn't interested in being social with me, so I don't think he'd be the best house pet.
12. Acer
Ash Red T-pattern mixed cock
Pippin x Cookie
Loft Bird ($30)
Acer's classification as a loft bird is maintained by technicality.
He has to come in after repeatedly attacking nestlings.
If he does it again with different ones when he goes out on Thursday, his status will be changed to Retired foe unusually severe aggression.
This seems to be a pattern developing in the Pippin x Cookie line...
Which is going to make the birds afflicted hard to place.
13. Bell
Blue T-pattern mixed hen
Pippin x Cookie
Loft Bird ($30)
Bell is the same intense degree of skittish as the rest of her siblings, but gets along well with her flock mates.
She has the best chance of them of being ok as a house bird, but she'd honestly be happiest either in a loft or with a bird friend.
14. Rusty
Pied Ash Red T-pattern mixed cock
Ginger x Danica
Curious ($40)
Rusty is an energetic boy with places to be and stuff to explore!
He occasionally lands on my shoulder or head, or hops briefly up into my lap
He isn't afraid of people, but not liking to hold still makes him hard to interact with.
He's very fun to watch, though, and would be a good match for any one who wanted an independent bird.
15. Checkers
Pied blue check mixed cock
Ginger x Danica
Loft Bird ($30)
Checkers is less interested in people than his brother, Rusty.
He's energetic, gorgeous, and fun to watch, and would make a lovely addition to a pet loft.
He probably wouldn't enjoy being a house bird unless he had a hen to interact with.
He's very combative with other cocks, and has not yet learned the virtue of "Don't start none, won't be none."
16. Frieda
Khaki tailmark mixed hen
Wukong x Suki
Comfortable ($50)
Frieda, though not super outgoing, is friendly in spite of her shyness.
She often gets up in my lap to loaf, but doesn't like being reached for, even with treats.
If you just want warm, quiet company while you read, watch videos, or do desk work, she'll be an excellent match for you.
17. Berry
Pied blue bar hen
Cherub x Tandy
Loft Bird ($30)
Berry is not remotely interested in hanging out with me. She isn't even curious.
She's not afraid by any stretch, she just would rather do literally anything but interact with me.
With lots of enrichment or another bird, she could be ok inside, or she'd make a pretty loft bird.
18. Shinobi
Black pied mixed hen
Leonard x Elliot
Comfortable ($50)
Like most of her siblings, Shinobi is friendly and interested in people, but too energetic to really hold still for long.
She is sweet and polite about taking treats when she feels like it.
She'd be quite happy as a house bird with lots of flight time.
19. Mote
Blue check mixed hen
Wukong x Suki
Curious ($40)
Mote is shy and reserved, but mostly seems overwhelmed by how many of her older and younger flockmates want to be in my lap or on my shoulders at any given time.
When my lap is free, she will usually hop up unto it and loaf for a bit.
She has a good chance of coming out of her shell as a house pet.
20. Tye
Pied tiger grizzle ash red cock
Ginger x Danica
Loft Bird ($30)
Tye is a drop dead gorgeous little man, the spit'n image of his father, Ginger.
He's not afraid of people, but literally everything else is more interesting.
Being a roller and tumbler mix, he's a delightfully acrobatic flier who is a joy to watch.
He'd be a striking addition to a pet loft, or, with enough enrichment or a friend provided, a great addition to a household.
21. Slate
Dirty, smoky blue bar mixed hen.
Satin x Chiffon
Interactive ($60)
Slate's brother, Cotta, is my new therapy prospect.
Slate is mellow and sweet tempered, happily accepts treats, and occasionally tries to play with my fingers like she would a stick.
She's quite happy to loaf in my lap and occasionally lets me stroke her little neck with a fingertip.
22. Flint
Blue check mixed cock
Nobu x Leela
Comfortable ($50)
Flint is a sweet little man that has started jumping into my lap at every opportunity, and often flailing his way up to loaf on my chest.
He accepts treats politely when he feels like it, but doesn't try to play with me yet.
I told y'all there were a TON of birds available. XD
I'll do my best to update this post as there are updates to make, but 22 is WAY more birds ready for homes than I'm really ok with having, especially with winter on the way.
It's my own fault for failing to advertise that they were available as soon as they became available.
Now I'm just going to have to wait before I can do any more rescue work or hatch peeps out for the people on my wait list.
Back to playing catch up...
