AITA for editing my sisterâs college essay?
[âď¸đđ to find it later]
I (22f) have a younger sister (17f) applying to college this fall. Her english class recently gave an assignment that was essentially âwrite your common appâ. For context, I am known for editing college application essays, I have done so for several family friends, and I donât pull punches. As such, I asked if I could help edit her essay, and she agreed.
It was a great essay!! I helped her out with some smaller grammatical things and to tighten up sentences, and she submitted the class assignment.
Hereâs where I may be the asshole. Later that night I kept rereading the essay, and I noticed a few issues in the middle portion. I wound up heavily editing the essay on my own document to make the emotions came across clearer and to tie in some key metaphors.
The next day, I wound up asking if I should share this document with her, and she ended up agreeing. I tried to give her an out because I could tell she was a bit annoyed, but she insisted that I share it now that I brought it up. Immediately after I shared it she called me crying, saying that she felt as though I had steamrolled over her work. She was sad because she liked it, and angry that I butted in. To be frank, I did inject too much of my own voice into this rewritten essay.
My sister has admitted to feeling very pressured when compared to me, as I achieved a lot academically and have a steady career. My parents and I have tried to reassure her that she is not expected to emulate me, but no matter how many times we say it, she wonât internalize that I am NOT a bar she needs to measure up to. She doesnât seem to realize that I struggled and failed so many times in so many ways b/c she didnât actually see it; she was too young at the time.
I want her to grow beyond what I could achieve, and I want her to be confident in herself. Sheâs incredibly smart, but she thinks Iâm smarter because we have different strengths and she devalues her own.
I feel guilty because it was not my intention to âlord over herâ by writing her essay âbetterâ; our writing styles are different, but her essay came across as dry and I wanted to give an example of how she could inject more emotion into the turning point, which is arguably the most important part of a college essay. However, I fear she took it badly, and I should have been more careful given how she views me.
I really donât want her to make the same mistakes I did with my college applications, and I know that getting into college has become incredibly difficult post-pandemic. Objectively, some of her test scores are below where mine were, and her extracurriculars, while good, are slightly âlessâ than what her peers are doing (our high school is extremely competitive) so I want to ensure her essays are as polished and punchy as possible to give her the best shot at getting into the colleges she wants. Weâre not hiring any college application tutors, so Iâm the only major mentor she has for this, since our parents did not attend college in the US.
My sister and I def talked it out and we both apologized to each other, so weâre all good. I admitted to being too pushy, she admitted to not handling criticism well and putting me on a pedestal, and we both agreed to handle essay help differently in the future.
AITA here? On the one hand, I was harsh in my delivery and should have given her more opportunity to edit using her voice instead of forcibly tossing mine into the mix. One the other hand, college apps are getting tougher and tougher and she needs as much help as she can get (not a dig at her intelligence, everyone needs help these days). Though sis and I worked it out, Iâm curious to know what the general opinion is.

I think this a good time as any to share what I think H0rners big brain been cooking for some time, especially after the Spa fiasco wid Danny ric and allegedly big sponsors having to step in to save Checos seat ((Im skeptical of those reports but they not really the point, Checo bringing Liberty, and rbr, a lot of money from very intense LATAM pockets never been a secret, and it does matter in the cost cap era, its just how things are. Plus replacing Checo not something that keeps Horner up at night believe it or not, and that's where my word vomit comes in)).
I been sitting wid this 1 for some time, but mind u its all speculation on my part and mostly incoherent because my brain is completely fried these days. But stay wid me đđ. Adrian Newey leaving-- not just because of how it was announced, the way it was dealt wid internally, the shit he's been saying to press now ((he's tired and needs a break but been shopping around for teams like he's bored on hinge)) -- was , imo, more of a statement of distrust. In the rbr project, but mainly in Horner. He no longer believes Horners ability to succeed, he prolly already knew the rb20 as an evolution of the rb19 had its set of obvious limitations when it came to suspension once the field closed up, he knew they were headed down a difficult type of season, he took a step back, he saw the cracks begin to delve deeper and deeper into nastiness between the Verstappen camp and Horner, he saw Horner refuse to take accountability while Max very pointedly and UNLIKE all the other red bull drivers refused to express his unconditional support for Horner. Quite the opposite, Verstappen began making threats. Centering the importance of the car ((!!!)) and a stable environment, not Horners innocence or lack thereof. He doesn't care about that, as long as hes got the people and the car to work wid. Keep that in mind.
But back to the Newey divorce . Adrians one of the most important figures in motorsport period, he knew he had better options, perhaps some financial motivations, why not, he said thank you, I don't trust you anymore, goodbye. So here falls a core, original pillar of Milton Keynes, arguably one of the most successful aerodynamicists of all time. 1 of Red Bulls bishop, gone. Still, they rallied behind Wache, they said Adrian hadn't been part of development for some time, their factory remains strong, they can fill in the gaps, rbr is STABLE, sure sure sure.
Imola, Canada, Spain. We all hold hands wid Max and play pretend for a lil bit. Verstappen factor and all that bullshit. But for some reason, Max delivers the same conclusion every post race presser. This car is falling behind. We are starting to struggle. The sim data and the on track data don't correlate. This car is not gonna win constructors. Idk how the fuck its even the WDC. CHECO of course appears to be driving for my cousin's bumper cars themed birthday party so we can all point and laugh and marvel at how a driver known for his experience and who's won races and gotten poles to suddenly drop to fucking p6 in the standings. Surely this is the worst driver of all time. Surely.
Austria. Rbr pit stops, already looking kinda iffy since the beginning of the season, hit a new low. Lando, wid a single good overtake, wins the race, effectively beating Max on track. Max didn't let him. And he came out of it with a points advantage too, because he made a choice regarding his driving and how he wud defend his position. In a better car, that's never a choice he has to make. But the car isn't on par wid Mclaren. Rbr factory development has, quite clearly, stalled. Upgrade packages go backwards.
Hungary. Yeah. Everything is stable and the car was good and Max was beyond delighted of course.
So, that's stable environment gone, competitive car gone, and now off goes Wheatley to fulfill his tp destiny. Somebody , who, once upon a time, was rightly identified as the guy who wud replace Christian Horner due to the severity of the allegations made against him. Yeah, remember when Horner shud have fucking been fired? But Horner stayed, Newey left, and Wheatley left. To disconnect these events is, imo, a lil bit insane. Wid Wheatley gone, that's red bulls bishop n2 fallen. I think its fairly reasonable to assume somebody wid 2 cats in Monaco is straight up not having a good time anymore.
So, where do Checo and Danny ric and that fucking seat come in. They're all part of this dance, but I think in a way that's been fairly misinterpreted. See for a long time now, prolly since he signed Danny ric to do tiktoks, even before Vcarb became a thing, Horner has not been looking for a replacement for Checo. He's been looking for a replacement for Max. Ik, again, this is me letting the voices take over. Lemme say some unhinged shit before u call the cops. Max is an impossible teammate. U cant match Max on pace over an entire season, u cant prioritize a driver over Max when it comes to development, u cant tailor a car to somebody like Checo ((which , because Im so fucking money on this, is what Horner has just claimed he's gonna start doing post Spa)) and not Max, because, simply put, the car will be slower. Max can drive faster cars, he can deliver the poles, he can give rbr a fighting chance, he's been doing that shit, wid more or less success, all season, most of his fucking career actually. Now, who do y'all know who also qualifies very well, likes a pointy car wid a shit ton of oversteer and recently been caught discussing rb20 failings wid Verstappen himself. Danny ric. And Danny ric, like Checo, is very much in the Horner camp side of things. Danny ric, rn, comes wid bonuses of loyalty and trust and maybe a lil chip on his shoulder that Verstappen quite simply does not have, or cares to have because that brother is trying to get his fourth championship, not survive f1. Danny ric comes as a success story for red Bull amidst very trying times for the brand, the silver son who bent the knee and came home to warm hugs and big smiles after nearly getting fucking taken out back in a farm by Zak brown. U put that brother next to Checo or Lawson or whoever u also have the bonus of not having one of the best drivers of all time absolutely refuse to finish behind them, which can be a lil bit annoying if the car is shit too.
Horner is a stingy, extremely egocentric asshole, who prolly shudve been fired a long time ago, and he's not the team principal I thought he was. Horner's strength as a tp came from standing on business for his WDC once the going gets hard. He's doing none of that this season, at least not for Max. He's just a man, and at the end of the day, he's got the pride and insecurity of one, too. If he thought Newey was expendable, well sure u already have a bald man in the team who gives a fuck ((????)), if he thinks Wheatley is expendable, that's pointing towards a more personal type of dutch centric trend, because if he thinks MAX is expendable ... if this 2023 Merc stinking ass fucking season is headed the way I think its headed baby. I wish him good luck .

Writing Tips - Villains VS Antagonists
The difference between a villain and an antagonist is that antagonists donât have to be bad guys, whereas with villains itâs basically a requirement. Antagonists only have to serve as obstacles to the endeavours of the protagonists, regardless of whether their stance is moral or even just generally opposing the protagonist
So when should you use a villain and when should you use an antagonist?
Thereâs not necessarily a right or wrong answer here, but itâs important to recognise that not every story needs a villain, whereas most will rely on an antagonist. All stories need conflicts or challenges that keep the protagonist from achieving their goals, and since thatâs the same role an antagonist fills, itâs easy to use other characters to do it. It also helps to add internal conflict, as well as antagonists being extremely versatile; they could be anything from a friendly rival putting their all into a competition against the protagonist, to the school bully who goes out of their way tormenting people, to a police officer chasing the protagonist criminal - thatâs right, antagonists can even be the good guy and objectively more heroic or in the right than the protagonist is
Really the only thing that separates the two is their morality and how far astray their acts and intentions are from arguably good; you can have a non-villainous antagonist by making their antagonism unrelated to morality or their immoral acts being far too weak to achieve villain status (a real-life Nelson Muntz isnât gonna be making actual villain status at ten, for example), and you can have a non-antagonistic villain by ensuring they donât oppose or challenge the protagonist
Iâve seen several people lately worrying that they need to get a villain in, so this is for you guys; stories do not inherently require a villain, and if anyone tries to tell you otherwise, maybe they just donât know the difference between a villain and an antagonist

Is there room in a standalone ask to talk about why Eduard Bernstein "concluded...that Marx was basically wrong about the internal dynamics of capitalism, their effects on the class structure of society, and the implications for political action"?
Ok, so there's part of this that I'm really not going to get into, because all you really need to understand is that Marx had this theory of falling rates of profit being inherent to capitalism, and Bernstein did all of these calculations of German industry at the turn of the 20th century that he felt showed that wasn't happening, and all of that stuff is really only interesting to Marxist political economists of a particular age.
What I find more interesting is Bernstein's work on immiseration and the class composition of the industrial workforce. A big part of Marx's theory of the inevitability of revolution is that he argued that capitalism would constantly oppress workers with lower wages and worse working conditions (in order to extract more surplus labor-value from them), that artisans and the petit bourgeois would find themselves squeezed down into the proletariat by the forces of capitalist competition, and in this fashion, the industrial proletariat would not only become radicalized, but they would also become the overwhelming majority such that they could overthrow the capitalist system by force of numbers, once they had been properly educated and organized.
Bernstein did a bunch of empirical analyses of the industrial workforce of Germany and realized that Marx's predictions were not coming true - wages were going up not down, but more importantly the middle classes were not becoming proletarianized, nor were the proletariat becoming the numerical majority. Instead, what was happening was that industrial capitalism was calling forth a new middle class - engineers, clerks, accountants, corporate lawyers, foremen, etc. - and the working class was becoming increasingly subdivided between unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers.
To Bernstein, this empirical fact had important political ramifications: if the socialist movement wanted to prosper, it needed to build a cross-class alliance with the bourgeois political parties of the middle classes to establish democracy and civil rights, and then to use those rights to push for the eight hour day and old age pensions and other reforms that would improve the immediate material conditions of the working class.
And, arguably, Bernstein was right about this - a lot of socialist and social democratic parties got into office for the first time through alliances with non-socialist political parties, whether that's the Scheidemann cabinet pulling together the SPD, the DDP, and the Center Party or the Swedish SAP starting their historic run at government with an alliance with the Swedish farmers' party.

Footballâs frenetic schedule is draining my enthusiasm
Lately, Iâve found myself feeling overwhelmed by the relentless pace of football. Since I was 7, Iâve taken great interest in how teams from across different leagues perform as well as international tournaments. Yes, Iâm an Arsenal fan but I remember Manchester City's dramatic second division playoff final victory over Gillingham in 1999 as well as following Leeds Unitedâs Champions League run in 2001.
Now, yes, I appreciate I am older and have much less time to invest, and I also have more important responsibilities (and priorities). However, instead of savouring each match, Iâm now fatigued by how many there are. For the last round of Champions League fixtures, I didnât even check who was playing on each night. The constant barrage of matches has taken something special and made it feel routine, or simply irrelevant.
Itâs not that my love for the sport has waned. I still love taking about it with friends and family. In fact, most of my family will come to me if they have a football question and also feel obliged to talk to me about it out of politeness. Yet unfortunately, the commercialisation of football has turned it into an endless conveyor belt of fixtures. There are (arguably) too many competitions, international breaks come and go, and players are shuttled between club and country with little to no rest. What was once a thrilling journey from one weekend to the next now feels like an overwhelming flood of matches to keep up with.
Perhaps the biggest issue with this is that itâs not just fans feeling the effects; the players and managers are clearly struggling too. Weâve seen injuries spike and fatigue set in as they grapple with the demands of an unrelenting schedule. The quality of play inevitably suffers, leaving us with fewer moments of brilliance and more matches that feel like going through the motions. This constant, high-stakes treadmill is wearing down the players just as much as itâs wearing down those of us who watch.
Football has always been about passion, community, and unforgettable moments. But as the game becomes more saturated and commercialised, I worry that these moments are harder to come by. I want to love every match, every minute. But to be honest, I just feel exhausted. I canât help but think that football needs to slow down, if only to remember why many of us fell in love with it in the first place.

Nah. It definitely looks like a throw away year incoming. I mean by the sounds of things (like the fact that they don't have a replacement lined up) his resignation was unexpected. Then the people they wanted to employ all turned down the job so they're thinking of employing a man who was probably going to be out of a job in a 2 years time. Besides that, they lost their TD, the TD who was up until this week still working on the car. Who we know has the loyalty of the engineering team. So that will likely have an effect. This kind of a disruption 94 days before the season starts can't be good. Then even if the car is competitive out the gate, all this reshuffling and restructuring is bound to come with its problems throughout the season. And we saw how important in-season development is - with a overthrow of the engineering department I don't think they'll be able to keep up with development of the other teams. Charles was right when he said they need stability. All this means is reshuffling positions again - not with the people best suited to the jobs, but who is available because there's ticking clock on this. You can't possibly win a championship when there's this much disruption. So yeah, I think it'll be a lost year. Again
Yeah, god knows how the engineering team will react. He was an important figure but he wasn't the only key player in that department. Others worked on the F1-75 too, though they are rarely mentioned. As a counter argument, though, they've historically struggled to keep up in the in-season development race, even when they had stability, and Binotto was the TD.
Obviously losing a TD is less than ideal, but again, if he simply didn't want to return to that position, preferring to resign instead, what more could they have done? It would have been better for the sake of stability and continuity if he had remained in that role, but he chose not to. It was always going to be a precarious situation when you had one man holding two very important positions within the team. It's something they admittedly should've prepared for better. Remains to be seen who will end up taking over the TD role.
There's just so many unknowns at the moment it's hard to gauge how this will go. It may very well be a lost year (again, depends how one sees that, if it's not being able to challenge for the title or being below the Mercs or what) but that would mean almost certainly losing Charles. Contracts can take months to negotiate, especially when it's not a clear cut situation, and there's already a question mark over his future at Ferrari that arguably wasn't there 12 months ago. So it would be best if they could somehow move past whatever internal feuds might be brewing and give it their best shot in 2023 or they're going to be in even bigger peril with a generational talent that's got one foot out the door.
#replies#anonymous#yes they have a mess on their hands but it's not like they weren't fucking up when they had stability and binotto as td and tp#the fact that he held both positions was a big issue and it's landed them in this situation so i hope they at least learn from that#and never let any one guy hold two key roles in the team ever again because it just leads to this#for now let them cook and we'll see what they come up with#discussions and predictions

Navigating the Future: Pimpri Chinchwad University in Pune
As the soul of Pune blooms forth, a new addition is Pimpri Chinchwad University (PCU), which was introduced in 2017. This PCU has envisioned empowering students through innovative learning and skill building in all aspects. Such thorny features and initiatives make Pimpri Chinchwad University a prime choice for aspiring students.
New Curriculum Design
Pimpri Chinchwad University boasts to have an effective mix of conventional classroom teaching and modern pedagogies. The curriculum offered, which is updated regularly to match the latest requirements in the industry, equips students at campuses with the latest skills and knowledge, while graduating from PCU.
Experiential learning at the university prepares students for solving real-life problems by using case studies, simulation exercises, and hands-on projects due to an active and experienced faculty.
The faculty is arguably one of the greatest assets that the university has. They comprise professionals and academicians, who are veterans in their fields, and draw much wealth to the classroom. They were committed to providing not only knowledge but also mentoring students, guiding them through academic and professional challenges. Faculty participation in research and industry projects within their classrooms adds a depth that makes learning not only applicable but also dynamic.
Emphasis on Research and Innovation
The philosophy of Pimpri Chinchwad University is mostly an approach towards research. The students and faculty members are encouraged to engage in cutting-edge research that would fulfill societal needs. It offers well-equipped research centers and labs as resources for doing groundbreaking studies and inventions. It helps the university promote great academic reputation, and it inspires students to think in innovative and out-of-the-box manners.
Vibrant Campus Life
PCU also has a strong campus life that catalyzes personal development as well as involvement in communities. Various extracurricular activities have been conducted, including cultural fests, sports events, and technical competitions. These activities allow the students to pursue their interests, provide a leadership experience, and expose them to interaction from different people. This campus life causes students to take more towards their university life.
Dedicated Career Services
Pimpri Chinchwad University understands the competitive job market and aims to equip students with the opportunity to make a seamless transition from academia to industry by offering career services. The efforts of the placement services team are augmented through placement drives, resume workshops, and mock interviews, so students are provided with all the tools to excel in careers. Industry professionals' frequent visits through guest lectures and workshops further enhance the industry-readiness of the students.
Social Responsibility
Pimpri Chinchwad University adopts a vision towards social responsibility. The two institutions are proactively involved in outreach programs where students participate in local development for several community service programs. Initiatives taken towards education, health, and environment-orientations leave social responsibility induced in the minds of students before they become effective leaders.
World-class Infrastructure
PCU offers the learners facilities with modern infrastructure to promote learning. The college has a high-tech campus with new-age classrooms, specialized laboratories, an extensive library, and sporting facilities. The university has made specific investments that make the campus conducive for learning, providing students with the latest information that could be available to back their work.
International Partnerships
Pimpri Chinchwad University acknowledges the importance of international exposure, encourages students to experience international exposure, and forms international ties with universities worldwide so as to facilitate exchanges among other programs, research collaborations, and cultural exchange. Education is given a global dimension, thereby preparing the students to act more fruitfully in an increasingly interdependent world. Conclusion
Pimpri Chinchwad University is not an educational institution in the literal sense; it is an environment that gives scope for innovation, research, and self-enrichment. Its curriculum, skilled teachers, and emphasis on social responsibility form a total education that indeed prepares the students for success in their careers and in life itself.
For the transformational educational journey, Pimpri Chinchwad University would be the launching pad for future leaders and changemakers. Perhaps PCU has in store is the gateway to someone's true potential! for more info visit: https://careermantra.net/

Would you say itâs comparatively easier to get a PhD or grad degree at a good UK university if your GP A is not perfect
Keep in mind that Iâm an undergrad, and Iâve never really dealt with any postgrad admissions.
The first point of note is that youâre less likely to get a student visa if youâve been admitted to a lower-ranking university in the UK. The UK has a lot of universitiesâapproximately 160âand about 50% of those are whatâs now known as post-1992 universities. These are universities which received their university status in or after 1992. Most of them are former polytechnics or colleges (the closest US equivalent would be trade school or community college), and some are simply newer universities, but all of them are comparatively low in national rankings and have much higher admissions rates. I would not recommend applying to these universities as an international student, as your visa application is much more likely to be denied. Be careful when choosing universities, and stick to the Russell Group if you can (with a few notable exceptionsâSt Andrews comes to mind). At postgraduate level, the quality of the department matters more over the reputation of the university overall, but to immigration officers, rankings are still important.
The second point is that, regardless of the post-1992 unis, itâs still easier to get into a UK university at postgraduate level with a lower GPA. This is because UK universities put less weight on GPA (itâs not a thing over here), and they accept a much higher proportion of international students at postgraduate level. Undergraduate admissions to top UK universities are much, much more competitive than postgraduate admissions, and I know lots of students who were rejected from Oxbridge/LSE/Imperial for undergrad, but accepted for postgrad.
To give some statistics on this:
The acceptance rate for Jurisprudence BA (an undergraduate degree) at Oxford is approximately 9â11%.
The acceptance rate for the BCL (a postgrad degree) at Oxford is approximately 20â21%.
The percentage of international undergraduate students at Oxford is approximately 23%.
The percentage of international postgraduate students at Oxford is approximately 65%.
Your chances of studying in the UK increase significantly if youâre a postgrad international. To put it bluntly: yes, itâs easier to get in.
Howeverâand this is a big howeverâpostgraduate study in the UK is different from, and arguably more difficult than, postgraduate study in the US. In the UK, a Masterâs degree is considered a specialisation, and courses are typically shorter, and more research-focused. Youâre expected to work at a higher level, much earlier, and you donât have the same proportion of classes and assignments as you would at postgrad in America. A British Masterâs degree (with the exception of American-influenced courses, like the MBA) is like a mini American PhD, in that youâre expected to work independently and produce a dissertation by the end.
In the US, graduate courses are broader and more of an expected rite of passage after undergrad, and theyâre taught similarly to British undergraduate degrees, in that you have much more contact with your professor. Students in the US can often go straight from undergrad to studying a PhD, but in the UK, you have to have a Masterâs first, and youâre usually expected to have published research during your postgraduate studies. Depending on your subject and personal nature, you might consider one countryâs system more challenging than the other, but the main point is that theyâre very different, and I know a lot of American postgrads doing their Masterâs over here who are really struggling with the lack of contact hours and the expectations of independence and quality research from their departments.

Boeing agreed to a plea deal with the Department of Justice over two deadly crashes of its 737 MAX aircraft in Indonesia and Ethiopia. The company pleaded guilty to defrauding the government by misleading regulators about an aircraft system that caused the crashes. Boeing will pay a fine of $243.6 million and be required to invest $455 million in safety, with an independent monitor overseeing the company for the next three years. But this should not be viewed as a purely private-sector failure. Boeing arguably benefits more from cronyism than any other U.S. company. The Export-Import Bank finances other countriesâ purchases of its jets, including the 737 MAX series. The regulatory agency that Boeing has pleaded guilty to misleading, the Federal Aviation Administration, told Congress in June it was âtoo hands-offâ in its oversight, after a door came off an Alaska Airlines Boeing. This extremely cozy relationship with government has been viewed as necessary for Boeingâs international competitiveness, but amid these safety concerns, orders are drying up and more customers are looking to Airbus for new planes. By preventing the case from going to trial, the DOJ is also likely preventing more information from coming to light about government complicity in Boeingâs failures.Â

Have they seen the Tenderloin?
San Francisco has discovered a new way to âsolveâ crime: Force businesses to close. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has unanimously decided to forcibly close retail food and tobacco businesses, not including restaurants and bars, from midnight to 5 a.m. in a designated âhigh-crime areaâ in the Tenderloin neighborhood. This is a two-year âpilotâ plan in response to the âhigh rate of drug-related crime in the Tenderloin.â The Tenderloin Housing Clinic supported this decision, with its director of community organizing blaming businesses for âfeeding into this ecosystem.â Evidently, it is the fault of these businesses for allowing drug-addicted homeless people and criminals to wreak havoc in the neighborhood, not the fault of the district attorney, law enforcement, or the Board of Supervisors for allowing these conditions in the first place. This is made all the more bizarre by the fact that the city had previously authorized a âsafeâ drug consumption center in the Tenderloin district. San Francisco had given the green light to allow drug addicts to shoot up whenever they wanted, a move that predictably backfired as the neighborhood became less safe and less sanitary, made worse by the cityâs refusal to prosecute them or just about any other criminals. Now, the blame is falling on businesses that are being forced to close by a city that created this problem in the first place.***

Joe Biden had recently nominated Sarah Netburn, a woke activist judge for a lifetime position in the NY court system. This is the same judge that put a 6â2â convicted male pedophile in a womenâs prison because he identified as a woman. He then exposed himself to female inmates.
However, it seems even this judge was just too much. Sarah Netburn's nomination was shot down on Thursday, preventing her from obtaining a lifelong seat in the NY court system.
LoT-T BTW - she was nominated to join the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

What about all the other ammunition on earth?
***The case was dismissed by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who ruled that the prosecution withheld potential evidence from Baldwinâs defense team â a collection of rounds that had been turned in to the Santa Fe County Sheriffâs Office earlier this year and may have been connected to the shooting. The possible evidence related to the question of how live ammunition ended up on set and inside the revolver that killed Hutchins, a key element in the chain of events that led to her death. Marlowe Sommer said it was âintentional and deliberateâ that the prosecution had not shared the live rounds with Baldwinâs attorneys for evaluation. The actorâs team argued that the evidence may have cast doubt on whether Gutierrez-Reed had brought the live ammunition to the set, and that it was concealed because it was favorable to Baldwin and undercut the prosecutionâs argument that Baldwin should have known the armorer was young and inexperienced and therefore taken extra precautions. In her ruling, Marlowe Sommer said that Baldwinâs defense team should have been informed of the ammunition earlier and that it was now too late to be incorporated into their defense. That meant not even the declaration of a mistrial could remedy the situation, meaning the case had to be dismissed with prejudice.*** https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/2024/07/13/alec-baldwin-trial-dismissal-rust/
+++
*** The issue emerged Thursday on the second day of the actorâs trial during defense questioning of sheriffâs crime scene technician Marissa Poppell. Baldwin lawyer Alex Spiro asked whether a âgood Samaritanâ had come into the sheriffâs office with the ammunition earlier this year at the end of the trial of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the filmâs armorer, for her role in Hutchinsâ death. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison on an involuntary manslaughter conviction, which she is now appealing. The evidence was not put into the same file as the rest of the âRustâ case, and was not presented to Baldwinâs defense team when they examined the ballistics evidence in April. The man who supplied ammunition was a close friend of Gutierrez-Reedâs father, movie armorer Thell Reed. Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey argued that the move from the men was part of an attempt by Reed to shift blame away from his daughter. âThis is a wild goose chase that has no evidentiary value whatsoever,â Morrissey told the judge Friday. âThis is just a man trying to protect his daughter.â The caseâs other special prosecutor, Erlinda Ocampo Johnson, resigned from the case earlier Friday. Spiro asked whether she had resigned based on the evidence issues being discussed. Morrissey said she believed it was over the holding of the public hearing itself. Speaking outside the courthouse doors, Morrissey said she respects the judgeâs decision but that there was no reason to believe the undisclosed evidence in question was related to the set of âRust.â âThe importance of the evidence was misconstrued by the defense attorneys,â she said. âWe did everything humanly possible to bring justice to Halyna and to her family and weâre proud of the work we did.â https://www.denverpost.com/2024/07/12/alec-baldwin-criminal-case-dismissed-new-mexico-rust-cinematographer-killed
I heard that the DA said the rounds in question had never been in New Mexico. The rounds had never left Arizona at any time relevant to the case.
The prosecution can appeal this dismissal. I hope they succeed.

documents case dismissed
J. Cannon dismissed the charges in United States v. Trump, 23-cr-80101 (S.D.Fla. Jul. 15, 2024). The opinion and order is linked.
Former President Trumpâs Motion to Dismiss Indictment Based on the Unlawful Appointment and Funding of Special Counsel Jack Smith is GRANTED in accordance with this Order [ECF No. 326]. The Superseding Indictment is DISMISSED because Special Counsel Smithâs appointment violates the Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution. U.S. Const., Art. II, § 2, cl. 2. Special Counsel Smithâs use of a permanent indefinite appropriation also violates the Appropriations Clause, U.S. Const., Art. I, § 9, cl. 7, but the Court need not address the proper remedy for that funding violation given the dismissal on Appointments Clause grounds.***
The first is a challenge to his appointment under the Appointments Clause, which provides the exclusive means for appointing âOfficers of the United States.â Article II, § 2, cl. 2. The Appointments Clause sets as a default rule that all âOfficers of the United Statesââwhether âinferiorâ or âprincipalââmust be appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Id. It then goes on to direct that âCongress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in Heads of Departments.â Id. For purposes of this Order, the Court accepts the Special Counselâs contested view that he qualifies as an âinferior Officer,â not a âprincipalâ one, although the Court expresses reservations about that proposition and addresses those arguments below. The Motionâs second challenge is rooted in the Appropriations Clause, which prohibits any money from being âdrawn from the Treasuryâ unless such funding has been appropriated by an act of Congress. Art. I, § 9, cl. 7 (âNo Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law. . . .â).***
Jack Smith was appointed by the Attorney General, not the president. He was not confirmed by the Senate. His office was funded by a DoJ slush fund, not by Congress.

WASHINGTON (AP) â The U.S. Navy has exonerated 256 Black sailors who were found to be unjustly punished in 1944 following a horrific port explosion that killed hundreds of service members and exposed racist double standards among the then-segregated ranks. On July 17, 1944, munitions being loaded onto a cargo ship detonated, causing secondary blasts that ignited 5,000 tons (4,535 metric tonnes) of explosives at Port Chicago naval weapons station near San Francisco. The explosion killed 320 sailors and civilians, nearly 75% of whom were Black, and injured another 400 personnel. Surviving Black sailors had to pick up the human remains and clear the blast site while white officers were granted leave to recuperate. The pier was a critical ammunition supply site for forces in the Pacific during World War II, and the job of loading those ships was left primarily to Black enlisted sailors overseen by white officers.*** https://apnews.com/article/navy-black-sailors-port-explosion-wwii-racism-df009fd75325758b15294e2fdad93729

do you think Mariona is going to definitely move to Arsenal?
i will never believe anything until i see a signed contract, but i think itâs highly unlikely sheâs going anywhere other than arsenal at this point. weâre a few weeks away from her contract at barça ending and she hasnât been linked with any other teams and it's been widely reported on, and there's likely a verbal agreement already in place so if i was a gambler, iâd put my money on mariona being a gunner next season.
now for my many thoughts you didn't ask for.
firstly, iâve been an arsenal fan for longer so selfishly i will always gladly take a world class player who has won multiple league titles, champions leagues and is a world cup and nations league winner. secondly, in my mind no one will replace viv ever, but mariona brings some of the same great playing qualities viv had (winning mentality, technical and scoring ability, etc) so arguably she helps fill the gap in our squad with viv gone.Â
iâm not the best with tactics or in depth playing style analysis so take my thoughts on this with a grain of salt (iâd actually be super keen to hear @lucawrites11âs thoughts on this ngl, i live for their analysis posts)
she is a world class multiple champions league title holder and has won the league for the past five seasons. there wass a lot of discourse on awfc twitter a bit ago calling mariona washed up and old which is actual insanity imo because her and stina are the same age and performing just as well in their own ways?? like pls get a grip, touch some grass etcÂ
barça magic! going off the fact that two established english league players (keira and lucy) who moved to barcelona have commented on how intense and competitive the barça girls are in training, and the impact it has on their game and also playing styles makes me excited to see what mariona will bring to arsenal. i know codi also played for barça before her move to arsenal, but i do feel like jonas has never given her the time of day to properly shine and i hope thatâll be different if mariona joins us. marionaâs technical abilities are also just astonishing and i feel like we definitely could use more of that as a squad
i hope this means we see better rotation of caitlin foord because honestly i fucking cannot stand that jonas doesnât regularly rest her when he can, and has multiple players on the bench who can play in her role as a starter or a super sub. foord is more prone to injury because of her high playing time and the regular long haul travel during international breaks, the poor girl never gets a fucking rest because sheâs also crucial in the tillies starting line. itâs likely with bringing in a name like mariona sheâs been promised regular minutes unlike some of the rest of our forwards bench because i highly doubt she would sign a contract to be treated the same way as some of our players have been by the swedish meatball. anyways, yay for jonas potentially learning how to rotate successfully this season đ¤đ˝
finally, the silly reasons why i want mariona at arsenal.Â
i. want. better. cellies. đ¤đ¤Â i have big expectations for my potential spanish gunner duo and making family fc progress from head taps as goal celebrations. give me all the vamoses and shithousery thanksÂ
i want to be able to understand all the team media and interviews with mariona unfortunately i understand absolutely no catalan and my spanish skills are currently not being helped much by duolingo so i understand absolutely none of the content the barca team put out with mariona in it. i still watch it all but if iâm able to understand it thatâll be chefs kissÂ
mariona x the most important title of all, the mighty cunty (conti) cup enough said honestly đ¤Ş

Scholarships Are Important for Studying Abroad:
Financial Assistance: This is arguably the most evident advantage of scholarships. Though the exorbitant prices discourage many students from pursuing their ambition of studying overseas. Scholarships enable students from a variety of financial situations to pursue their academic objectives by paying for tuition, living expenses, and occasionally even travel costs.
Less Debt: Since scholarships do not have to be paid back, like loans, they relieve students of a large portion of their debt. By obtaining scholarships, you can prevent accruing enormous debt from student loans, freeing you up to pursue further studies or launch your profession without worrying about money.
Increased Academic Opportunities: Scholarships provide access to esteemed schools and courses that might otherwise be unaffordable. By giving you access to world-class instructors, state-of-the-art research facilities, and a varied academic community, these programs will improve your academic record and enrich your educational experience.
Global Networking: You will be exposed to a worldwide network of professionals, academics, and classmates while you study abroad on a scholarship. For upcoming professional prospects, teamwork, and personal development, this network can be quite helpful. Developing interactions with people from other backgrounds helps you become more interculturally competent and opens up new ideas.
Some pointers for obtaining scholarships to study overseas:
Begin Early: Searching for a scholarship should start as soon as possible. Do not wait until you have gotten admission offers to start exploring for funding opportunitiesâmany scholarship deadlines are well ahead of university application deadlines.
Do Extensive Research: Investigate a variety of scholarship opportunities, such as those provided by foundations, governments, colleges, and organisations. Read the rules carefully as each scholarship has different requirements for eligibility, applications, and deadlines.
Emphasise Your Successes: It is important to emphasise in your application your leadership responsibilities, extracurricular activities, community service, academic accomplishments, and any other pertinent experiences because scholarships are competitive. Describe what makes you stand out from the other applicants.
Customise Your Applications: Make sure your scholarship requests are appropriate for each grant source. Tailor your personal statements and writings to the goals and requirements of the scholarship. Explain how getting the award will enable you to fulfil your academic and professional ambitions.
Request Recommendation Letters: Obtain solid recommendation letters from instructors, professors, or employers who can vouch for your character, potential, and academic prowess. Select references who are familiar with you and able to give concrete instances of your accomplishments and assets.
Prepare for Interviews: If there will be interviews as part of the scholarship application process, get ready for them. Be prepared to explain why you should receive the scholarship and how you intend to take full use of the opportunity. Practise your responses to frequently asked interview questions.
Remain Positive and Persistent: Applying for scholarships can be competitive, and getting turned down might be discouraging. Do not give up, though. Continue applying, being tenacious, and keeping an optimistic outlook. Every application is an educational opportunity that can raise your prospects going forward.
In conclusion, scholarships play a crucial role in making international education accessible and affordable for students worldwide. By following these tips and seeking assistance from the best education consultants in Pune, you can increase your chances of securing funding for your study abroad journey and achieve your academic aspirations.
