good news guys if i did my math right (which it's possible i did not) i only have 80 more david tennant roles to get through. which means im more than halfway through since im not including repeat roles, non character-related narrations, or when he's just showing up as himself as an easter egg in a show 😁

Tell the people about the letwos
alrighty! fair warning its not good in there theres some not good family behavior in there. under a read more its probably gonna be kinda long
okay so let me set the scene. its like the late 90s/early 2000s. trip just moved with his mom and sister to the suburbs around 6 ish years after their dad died. he's like 9 her sister is 5
pretty much the letwos moved to mary bell because of a funny little thing called laplace's inc. there's some stuff involved with that, but pretty much it's the heaven business and their mom deborah/debbie/deb is the worst and also the most catholic person you've ever met and you can probably fill in the blanks there.
when trip is around 13 he ends up getting really really sick with. something i dont really know what but its not good and its deadly and its not looking good for him. at the awesome age of 14 years old they're still fighting it and she thinks Hey you know what im gonna go on a walk. so he does and omg whats this whos that guy?? anyway its mortimer and it just kinda goes like
"hey youre dying right"
"......yeah?"
"ok what if i told you. that you didn't have to do that if you just shook my hand about it"
"what" "i mean i'll take your soul but thats no biggie right. i mean you'll stay alive you'll live the rest of your natural life" (<- they're like the grim reaper they can do that) "oh. yeah thats no biggie i guess"
[they shake hands]
"shit dude i forgot to tell you. if i take your soul you have to stay here in the town you hate its like this whole thing"
"WHAT."
"you can pull your hand away though i won't get mad"
"i feel like it would be too late now anyway"
"yeah lol"
its like this whole thing about 'would you rather die or live a life you hate' yk. oh also trip wasn't like totally completely hopeless either. he could have maybe lived through it [although the chances were low] and now she has to spend the rest of her life thinking about like, what if she didn't make the deal and he ended up being fine. lol.
okay flash forward its 2008 trip is 16 going on 17 [something something sound of music reference] and cotard [his sister] is 13. gonna go more in depth with this elsewhere but pretty much trip and cotard try running away from mary bell/their shitty ass mom. and like trip can't leave mary bell but technically he's never tried before and maybe if they go with someone it'll work [spoiler: it doesn't]
trip is like, kind of aware that it might not work out for him, but if it didn't she thought cotard at least could leave. and cotard doesn't either because she doesnt want to leave trip behind. there's some other stuff that i haven't mentioned but this attempt def results in some like stricter regulations around their house. they were already realllly sheltered kids [homeschooled, isolated from their peers, generally only taught what their mom wanted them to know] and this just kind of sealed the deal on all that
anyways then trip moves out like two years later and cotard's slightly bitter about that but understanding yk, like good on you for leaving but also now i have to deal with all this alone. cotard moves out as well a few years later and her and trip lose contact even more. she still lives in mary bell she just lives on the complete opposite side of town. i like to think that she gets out a fair amount though, like traveling and stuff [not for very long though since mary bell kind of does that whole moving thing]
honestly i really don't know enough as i should about cotard she's like fully fleshed out in my head but i really can't think of anything specifically about her. like i know she takes a while warming up to people, like quiet at first but gets louder as you get to know her [wow just like how the song goes from being quiet to being loud]. but i need to work on fleshing her out some more i really do
anyways. six years after trip moves out debbie dies and ohhhh haha that's so weird that she died of blood loss when the mayor is a vampire. thats so strange im sure those two things aren't related at all [they are btw vannie killed her].
annnnnd i think thats all? i feel like there's stuff im forgetting and i dont think this was as detailed as i was hoping but its at least the basics

i find myself often questioning myself and stopping whether my critique of tiktok or social media or apple or google or what have you is reactionary because its easy to go into a mode of "things were better before" "we must return to the golden age"
i often romanticize older things, physical media, personal websites, offline mp3 players, digital cameras, vinyl, cds, a world before smartphones but nostalgia is a powerful thing and despite the fact that i enjoy these things and think aspects of them are better than things are now (lack of ownerships, streaming, addictive smartphones) not only is the era im referring to not better but in many ways its worse.
unless of course you were a straight white male during that time, ya know 2000-2010, a rather dudebro era of raunchy comedies, tv hosts openly admitting to wanting to bang underage starlets like hillary duff and the olson twins, games where the guy game on ps2 (which featured inappropriate images of a minor and had to be recalled) or biker xxx were prominent, not to mention all the post-9/11 paranoia, iraq war and leadup to the 2008 banking crisis.
it wasnt a better time just because i was too young to grasp it, but aspects of it were better in specific areas of ownership and mindful consumption of content. Although even that wasnt perfect, as i remember when i was 13 it was seen as cool to find the grossest sites imaginable of like things that would scar a developing mind and share it with everyone around. things like 2 girls 1 cup and lemon party and what not.
there were less guardrails but i think there should be some kind of middle ground between free for all and social media dominating the zeitgeist and killing individuality in lieu of algorithmic consumption.
this is one of my rants but the gist is that be careful being too nostalgic for days gone by because the past being this golden age is a reactionary talking point and that mindset can lead you down slippery slopes of right wing radicalization. be mindful of longing for the past.
you are not immune to propaganda as they say

Tony Stark and Arthuriana
Coming to you by special request, a very long post about 616 Tony's interest in Arthuriana, with a focus on all of Tony's run-ins with Morgan le Fay!
I feel like I should disclaim the extent of my knowledge here, which is that I still haven't managed to read anywhere near every issue of Iron Man -- at least, not yet, anyway -- so I'm just going by the things I know I've read, and Morgan le Fay's Marvel wiki entry is frustratingly under-cited, so it's very possible I've missed something relevant, but I'm pretty sure I've got the big stuff down. My other disclaimer here is that I'm not as big an Arthurian nerd as Tony is, which is to say that most of my familiarity comes from modern retellings -- T. H. White's The Once and Future King, Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon, Mary Stewart's The Crystal Cave, Rosemary Sutcliff's Sword at Sunset -- and not so much the usual classic sources on the Matter of Britain, though I've read bits and pieces of them.
(This is because I wanted to read versions of them that were as close to the original as possible but so far have not ended up finishing any of them because, well, that's hard. So I've never read the Mabinogion because I do not know Welsh. I've got the Norton Critical Edition of Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, which is probably the best student edition if you're looking for something without modernized spellings, as I was. I've also got -- well, okay, it's my wife's but I'm borrowing it -- a relatively recent Boydell & Brewer edition (ed. Reeve, tr. Wright) of Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain), which is, you guessed it, in Latin with a facing English translation. I haven't gotten very far in it because, in case you didn't know this about Latin texts, the beginning is pretty much always the hardest, so I gave up and read some Plautus adaptations instead. Anyway, if for some reason you too want to read Geoffrey of Monmouth in the original Latin I'd recommend that one, but I can't recommend any particular English translations because I've never read one by itself. I bet you didn't think you'd be getting Latin prose recommendations in this post. I mean, maybe you did; it is me, after all.)
Okay. Right. King Arthur. Here we go.
We've got:
Flashbacks to Tony's childhood in late Iron Man volume 1
A brief discussion of Morgan's origin story and Avengers #187
Iron Man vol 1 #149-150: Doomquest
What If vol 1 #33: What if Iron Man was trapped in the time of King Arthur?
Iron Man vol 1 #249-250: Recurring Knightmare
Iron Man: Legacy of Doom #1-4
Avengers vol 3 #1-4: The Morgan Conquest
Civil War: The Confession
Mighty Avengers vol 1 #9-11: Time Is On No One's Side
In terms of universe-internal chronology, we know from Iron Man #287, from 1992, that Tony has been a fan of King Arthur since childhood. This is an issue of a fandom-favorite arc which features Tony having a lot of childhood flashbacks, including the famous "Stark men are made of iron" line (in #286) that for some reason MCU fandom decided it loved; I mean, seriously, I've seen that quoted in way more MCU fic than 616 fic. But slightly later, in #287, we get an entire page devoted to Tony's love of King Arthur.
Tumblr media
The narration reads: "Over the next few years, I learned as my father intended. Discipline of body. Strength of character. But in what free time I was allowed, I worked my way through the school's library. At thirteen, I discovered Mallory [sic], who showed me a whole new world. A world of dedication to a cause greater than oneself. Of chivalry and honor. And the fantastic deeds -- of armored heroes."
The art shows Tony as a child sitting under a tree, reading a book labeled Mort D'Arthur by Mallory [sic] -- no, don't ask me why nobody at Marvel checked how to spell either the name of the book or its author -- and daydreaming of King Arthur, the Sword in the Stone, knights, et cetera. Just in case you somehow missed the extremely blatant hint that we are meant to understand that Tony's knight obsession heavily influenced him becoming Iron Man as an adult, we see one of his armors mixed in with all the drawings of knights. So, yes, canonically Tony is Iron Man at least partly because he's a giant King Arthur nerd, which I think is so very sweet. I love him. He's such a dork!
(This issue is currently in print in the Iron Man Epic Collection War Machine, should you need your own copy.)
This isn't actually the only reference to Tony as a King Arthur fanboy in this era of canon, either; a little later, in IM #298, we see that one of Tony's passwords is actually "Mallory." (Yeah, no, they still couldn't spell. But it's cute.)
Tumblr media
But in terms of actual publication order, this is definitely not the first time we have seen in canon that Tony is into Arthuriana, as I'm sure you all know. I would assume, in fact, that giving Tony a childhood interest in Arthuriana is because Doomquest is one of the most beloved Iron Man story arcs of all time, and that all started at least a decade before IM #287 here was published.
The villain of Doomquest -- the one who isn't Doctor Doom, at least -- is Morgan le Fay. Yes, that Morgan le Fay. Yes, Arthur's evil half-sister Morgan le Fay. Yes, all of this King Arthur stuff is canonically real history on Earth-616. Morgan's first appearance in Marvel, per the wiki, was in Black Knight #1 (1955), which I have not read, and judging by the summary I feel like this is probably just supposed to be a straight-up comic retelling of Arthurian legends for kids; I don't think Marvel really had the whole Marvel Universe in mind as a concept in 1955, so I'm not sure this was meant to connect to anything else. I feel like this is another one of those instances of Marvel discovering that they can write comics about characters in the public domain for free -- like, I'm pretty sure that's how we also ended up with, like, Norse, Greek, and Roman mythology wedged into 616.
As far as I can tell from the wiki, the first time Morgan tangled with the Avengers (or indeed the larger 616 universe) in any way actually predated Doomquest -- it was in an early arc in Spider-Woman (#2-6) and then Avengers #187, which came out in 1979, actually right when Demon in a Bottle was happening over in Iron Man comics. If you read #187, Iron Man is not in it because he's off the team due to his drinking problem and also his accidentally murdering the Carnelian ambassador problem. So Wonder Man's filling in instead. This issue is part of Michelinie's rather sporadic Avengers run, which makes sense, I guess, considering where we see Morgan next.
Anyway, Avengers #187 is the classic issue where Wanda is possessed by Chthon, but what you may not remember from Chthon's backstory (I sure didn't!) is that he was summoned by Morgan le Fay because she was the first person who tried to wield the Darkhold to summon him. As you can imagine, this did not work out especially well for her and her followers and they had to seal Chthon away in Wundagore Mountain, which was where Wanda found him. (The Spider-Woman stuff is only slightly earlier and also appears to be about Morgan and the Darkhold; the Darkhold is not one of the areas of 616 canon I am especially conversant with, alas. It's on my to-read list.)
Tumblr media
Doomquest, as you probably know, was a classic Iron Man two-parter in Layton & Michelinie's first Iron Man run that set up Tony and Doom as rivals; Doomquest itself was IM #149-150, in 1981, and then in their second IM run they came back and did a sequel in 1989, Recurring Knightmare (IM #249-250), and then the much later four-part sequel to that was the 2008 miniseries Iron Man: Legacy of Doom, which was also by Layton & Michelinie but generally does not seem to be as popular as the first two parts. They've all been reprinted, if you're looking for copies; I have a Doomquest hardcover that collects the first four issues and then a separate Legacy of Doom hardcover. Currently in the Iron Man Epic Collection line there's a volume called Doom, which confusingly only collects the 249-250 part of the storyline (as well as surrounding issues), because for some reason the first Layton & Michelinie run isn't in Epics yet but the second one is. So the beginning of Doomquest isn't currently in print, as far as I can tell. I'm sure you can find it anyway.
So what's Doomquest about? Okay, so you remember how Doctor Doom's mother's soul is stuck in hell for all eternity? Well, Doom's obviously interested in getting her back, and the strategy he has embarked on is to try to team up with other powerful magicians who can help him out, and he thinks Morgan le Fay would be a good choice, for, uh, his quest. Doom's quest. A Doomquest, if you will. (If you've ever read Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph & Torment, you're familiar with the part where he later ends up waylaying Strange for this and they go to hell together. And if you haven't read Triumph & Torment, you really should, because it's amazing.)
So Doom is off to his time machine to go team up with Morgan le Fay and Tony thinks Doom is up to something -- Doom has been stealing components for his time machine from a lot of people, including Tony -- and he follows him and it turns out one of Doom's lackeys has a grudge and wants to trap Doom in the past forever, and Tony gets caught up in it. Now they're both in Camelot. Surprise! #149 is actually all setup; they don't get to Camelot until #150.
IM #150 begins with Doom and Tony thrown back into the past; there's a fandom-famous splash page of them locked in combat, only to realize that they have found themselves in Camelot.
Tumblr media
They are then discovered by knights; Doom would very much like to attack them, but Tony, who naturally would be happy to LARP Camelot forever, persuades him to play nice. Also Doom thinks Iron Man is only Tony's bodyguard so he keeps referring to him as "lackey," much to Tony's annoyance. Somehow everyone thinks they're sorcerers. Can't imagine why. The knights take them to meet King Arthur himself, and Tony has clearly had his introduction all ready to go, as he introduces himself in a timeline-appropriate manner, says he's here to apprehend Doom, and demonstrates his "magic" by levitating Arthur's throne. Doom's response is essentially "I'm the king of Latveria," which is, y'know, also valid. So they're guests at Camelot for the night while Arthur figures out what to do with them.
We then have a page devoted to Tony alone in his room, musing sadly about how alien he feels, how he doesn't know if he'll ever get home, how he could never fit in here without his beloved technology. Then a Sexy Lady shows up to keep him company for the night, and he decides maybe it's not all bad. Thanks, Marvel. I guess they can't all be winners.
Doom is using his evening much more productively; he compels one of the servants to tell him where Morgan's castle is, because he's still interested in having that team-up. Then he jets off. Literally. He has a jetpack.
The next morning Arthur's like "one of you is still here and one of you has punched a hole through the castle wall and flown off to join Morgan so I guess I know which of you is more trustworthy." He then explains to Tony who Morgan is, because Tony professes ignorance, because clearly we had not yet retconned in Tony's love of Arthuriana. Tony offers to go fight Doom and Morgan with Arthur; meanwhile, Morgan and Doom have teamed up and Morgan has offered to help get Doom's mother out of hell if he commands her undead armies against Arthur because for Reasons she can't command them herself anymore. So that's a thing that happens.
So, yes, it's Tony and Arthur versus Doom and Morgan. Fight fight fight!
Tumblr media
Tony tries Doom first but then decides to hunt Morgan down, and in the ensuing fight we get what I think is Tony's first ever "I hate magic," a complaint that we all know he still makes even to this day.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Tony freezes a dragon with Freon (mmm, technology) and Morgan gets upset and disappears, so the battle comes to an end, and of course Doom is extremely mad at Tony because he blames Tony for Morgan not sticking around to save Doom's mom, because I guess Doom trusted her to keep her word? Weird. (Like I said, for the next chapter of Doom saving his mother, go read Triumph & Torment.)
Doom says if he and Tony work together, the components in both of their armors can send them both home. So Tony has to trust Doom. Which he does, because he really has no other choice. They build a time machine and Tony makes Doom agree to a 24-hour truce when they get back, so they can both get home. So it all works out okay, and they end up in the present, and Doom tells him, ominously, that they will meet again. Okay, then. That concludes the original Doomquest. It's fun! You can see why fandom likes it.
So that's all well and good, but you might have noticed that Tony's ability to get home hinged on Doom actually being trustworthy. And Doom was. But what if Doom hadn't been? What if he'd just stranded Tony in Camelot forever As you may have surmised from the form of that question, that is in fact a question Marvel asked themselves, because, yes, there's a What If about this! What If v1 #33 is "What if Iron Man was trapped in the time of King Arthur?"
The divergence point from canon, as you can probably guess, is the very end of Doomquest. Instead of Doom bringing Tony home, he deceives him and leaves him in Camelot. And since Tony cannibalized a lot of the tech from his armor to make the time machine, he doesn't have a way to go home.
Tumblr media
This is not a story where Tony comes up with a way to go home after all. He really doesn't get to go home. But instead of drowning his sorrows in mead -- because, remember, Demon in a Bottle has already happened and Tony is sober now -- he decides he might as well just play the hand he's dealt. So with what's left of his armor, he defeats some enemies that Morgan rounds up to send against Camelot. And for his services, he's knighted. He is now Sir Anthony.
Tony acknowledges that he is both living the dream and would also like very, very much to go home.
Tumblr media
He does end up having some fun in Camelot; it's not all miserable. But he obviously doesn't want to be there.
So if you're at all familiar with King Arthur, you know how this goes, right? Arthur fights Mordred and Mordred kills him. And that does happen in this version. Except Tony is right there, and with his dying words, Arthur asks Tony to rule Camelot... and Tony agrees.
Tumblr media
So, yes, Tony Stark becomes king of the Britons after Arthur's death and he never goes home again. The end. Man, I love What Ifs.
Heading back to main 616 continuity, there is still more of this arc to go. The original Doomquest was only two issues, yes, but it was popular enough that Layton & Michelinie did a sequel a hundred issues later, in their second run of Iron Man, and that's Iron Man #249-250, Recurring Knightmare. (In the intervening issues were Denny O'Neil's IM run, specifically the second drinking arc (#160-200), and then Layton & Michelinie came back and most famously gave us Armor Wars (#225-232). I would have to say that Armor Wars is definitely the standout fandom-favorite arc of their second IM run; for their first one, I think a lot of people would have a hard time choosing between Doomquest and Demon.) But anyway, yes. Recurring Knightmare.
Recurring Knightmare is... well, the best way I can describe it is "a trip." It is definitely a sequel to Doomquest, and it is also definitely not a sequel you  would ever have expected to see for Doomquest.
Much like #149, #249 is pretty much just setup. Fun setup, but the big action is in the next issue. We open with Doom in Latveria, on his throne, pondering which of his servants he should have disintegrated. Anyway, he's just hanging out there when a mysterious object appears. In California, Tony is suited up and entertaining the crowd at a mall opening when the same object also appears! He takes it to his lab. Please note that this is after the Kathy Dare incident, so Tony is still recovering and is walking with a cane. Doom sees on the news that Iron Man has found the same object, which cannot be carbon-dated, and he shows up at Tony's house. He criticizes Tony's taste in art.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Doom basically orders Tony to work with him. Tony refuses, and then Doom sends some robots to attempt to steal Tony's version of the object because he thinks if he has them both he will be powerful. Doom manages to steal it, and when he puts the pieces together, both he and Tony disappear.
So where do they go, you might ask? Camelot?
Not exactly. The future! There is a great callback to the Doomquest splash page.
Tumblr media
It turns out they are in London in 2093. Merlin brought them there. Tony still hates magic. And in the future, King Arthur is still there, except he is now a child, because he has been reborn. But he does remember Tony from Doomquest, at which point Tony kneels. Doom, of course, is not impressed. He asks why they have been brought to the future.
The answer is that things are going wrong in the future. If you do not personally remember United States politics in the 1980s, I need you to google the words "Strategic Defense Initiative" right now. I'll wait.
Back with me? Okay, so this is a future where Reagan's Star Wars program actually happened the way he wanted it to, and the satellites are still hanging around the Earth in the future and messing everything up, and Arthur and Merlin need Tony and Doom's help to stop them. Doom once again flies away with his jetpack, of course.
Tony is game to help, but he's not in an armor that can stay in space for long. This is when Merlin takes him and Arthur to the mall and Tony manages to get everything to upgrade his armor at Radio Shack. You see what I meant about this issue being weird.
Tumblr media
Tony is out in space trying to disarm the SDI platform, which is where he runs into his future descendant, Andros Stark, who is in armor you will probably recognize from Iron Man 2020. He is referred to as "the resurrected spawn of Iron Man 2020" so I assume he's actually directly related to Arno rather than a direct descendant of Tony; Wiki confirms that Arno is his grandfather. This is all from way before Arno was contemporaneous with Tony in canon. Anyway, he's fighting Tony.
Tumblr media
Oh, by the way, Future Doom exists. Future Doom would like to rule this future Earth and for some reason Andros would like to help him. Meanwhile, Present Doom finds out from Merlin that he can't leave except by magic and he can't leave without Tony, so he is reluctantly on Tony's side.
They need help from the Lady of the Lake, except the lake has been paved over and is now a parking lot. Merlin makes the lake come back and then of course they get Excalibur. Arthur is a kid, so he can't wield a longsword; Doom assumes he's going to take it because he is basically a king, and he's pretty grumpy when the sword picks Tony. Tony then uses Excalibur to destroy the space lasers, and I bet that is a sentence you never thought you would read. It's pretty cool. Tony concludes that magic has its good points. Tony stops Andros and Doom stops, uh, himself, and the world is saved and they get to go home. Also, Doom finds out Tony is Iron Man, but when Merlin sends them back he conveniently erases their memories, so neither of them remember anything about this and Tony's secret is still safe. And that's the sequel to Doomquest.
And if you think that's weird, wait until you see Legacy of Doom.
Iron Man: Legacy of Doom is a four-issue miniseries from 2008, also by Layton and Michelinie. Even though it's from 2008, it's set during a much more classic time in Iron Man, continuing on from where we left off in this Doomquest saga. We start with a framing story in 2008. Tony, who has Extremis now, is busy scrapping some of his older armors and reviewing his logs when he suddenly remembers that there was a whole thing with Doom that happened that he seems to have forgotten about until right now. So the whole thing is narrated by Tony in flashback.
Tony's in space fixing a satellite when a hologram of Doom shows up and summons him to Latveria. It's not really clear why Doom needs Tony's help in particular here, but Doom tells Tony that he's discovered that Mephisto would like to bring about the end of the world, which Doom finds, and I quote, "presumptive." So Doom has his Time Cube, and with it he takes Tony to hell.
(Yes, I promise this is relevant to Doomquest. There will be some Arthuriana shortly.)
Doom brings Tony to Mephisto, and it turns out it's a setup! Doom trades Tony for an item he wants from Mephisto, leaves, and Tony's going to be trapped in hell forever! Oh no! (I mean, he's not. But it's quite a cliffhanger.)
At the beginning of issue #2, we find out what the Arthurian connection is, which is that we learned that after the events of Doomquest, Morgan had been granted sanctuary by Mephisto in exchange for a shard of Excalibur that she had somehow stolen. Doom still wants Morgan's help with some magic -- he doesn't mention what it is here, but he says he needs someone of Pendragon blood, and that'd be her -- so he traded Tony to Mephisto in exchange for, I'm guessing, Morgan and the Excalibur shard.
I have probably mentioned this elsewhere, but Legacy of Doom #2 is one of my favorite issues of Iron Man ever, solely because of the next scene. We return to Tony in hell. Howard Stark is also in hell, and he is now a demon, and Tony has to fight him. Mephisto brings popcorn and watches. This is the one time in canon when Tony actually confronts his father, and okay, yes, it's a fistfight in hell and Howard is a demon, but that's comics for you. Howard spends several pages insulting Tony -- specifically insulting his masculinity, but that's a whole other essay -- until he finally insults Maria too, and that's when Tony fights back, because his mother taught him to be good. Honestly if you're a Tony fan I'd recommend this issue just for that scene.
Tumblr media
Anyway, we go back to the Doom and Morgan plot, and Morgan casts the spell Doom wanted, which was fusing the Excalibur shard with Doom's armor. Then Doom sends her back to Camelot rather than hell, because he's still mad that she never helped him get his mom out of hell like she said she would.
Tony freezes Howard with Freon -- yes, the same trick he pulled on the dragon back in Doomquest -- and tells him, "You're no father of mine." It is immensely satisfying.
Tumblr media
(I had been going to mention that I thought it was a shame that neither canon nor fandom seems to have really engaged with this confrontation, and I know canon never believes in narrative closure but fandom sure does -- and then, anyway, it occurred to me that since the framing story of Tony remembering this is set when Tony has Extremis, there's a very good chance that he no longer remembers remembering it. Goddammit, Marvel.)
(If I got to retcon one canon thing about Tony, I think "the entirety of World's Most Wanted" is up there. I mean, okay, a lot of things are up there, but WMW is definitely on the shortlist.)
Okay. Tony has now engineered his way out of hell, and he's back with Doom in Latveria. Doom has Excalibur. Doom would very much like to fight him. While wielding Excalibur. You get the sense that this is going to be bad. Another cliffhanger!
Legacy of Doom #3 opens with Tony destroying Doom's lab to buy time and running away from Doom and Excalibur. I should probably mention that Doom still doesn't know Tony is Iron Man (anymore), so he thinks he is dealing only with Iron Man, Tony Stark's lackey. Meanwhile, some scientists at SI think there's something weird going on with space. Meanwhile meanwhile, Tony is in a forest taking a breather when a mysterious old man walks up to him.
It's Merlin! Surprise! Merlin wants Tony's help to stop Doom from doing whatever he's doing with Excalibur. The sword makes you invincible and the scabbard makes you invulnerable, so Merlin sends Tony to Scotland on a fetch quest for the scabbard. Doom has now magically sent the sword in search of the scabbard, so the sword flies away to meet it and Doom follows. Turns out the thing that's wrong with space is a thing that's going to hit Earth at the exact place Tony and Doom are. What a coincidence! So Tony and Doom get trapped in a stone circle and fight some stone warriors and then Tony ends up with the scabbard. And by "ends up with," I mean it fuses to his armor. Next issue!
Legacy of Doom #4 is when things really, really get weird. A giant demon made of eyes (???) appears, and this demon is apparently what Doom had been preparing to fight (because it's mad that Doom stole one of its spellbooks), and now he can't, because the sword and the scabbard aren't together. Thanks, Shellhead.
That's when Merlin shows up and says all is not lost. They can defeat the demon... if they put the sword into the scabbard.
"But I'm the scabbard now!" Tony says, uncomprehending.
"Yes," Merlin says. "You are."
Then Tony gets it.
Tumblr media
So, yes, Doom has to, um, penetrate Tony. With Excalibur. I love comics. I love comics so much.
Tumblr media
So that's a thing that happens.
Tumblr media
And then Tony flies off and, I guess, resolves to never, ever think about any of this again.
We head back to the framing story, in which Tony, now having remembered all of this, flies to Britain, buys the land the lake is on, and paves it over, presumably so it will be there for Merlin to bring back in Iron Man #250. The end.
Whew.
Okay, yeah, I know I didn't have to summarize the whole thing, but Legacy of Doom here really is one of my favorite Iron Man miniseries. And I just want to share the love. Please read it. It's great.
But the Arthuriana fun doesn't end there! In fact, now we get an Arthurian-themed arc that actually isn't in Iron Man comics. It's in Avengers! Iron Man is involved, though.
(There is also apparently a Morgan arc in Avengers #240. I actually haven't read it. It seems to be yet another Spider-Woman arc. I get the impression that this isn't really Arthuriana other than having Morgan in it fighting Jess, though, so it doesn't seem quite as relevant. Morgan also apparently has some appearances in FF, Journey into Mystery, and Marvel Team-Up, but those seem like more of just basic villainy. Also, probably not involving Tony.)
Kurt Busiek's 1998 Avengers run, volume 3, is in large part the kind of Avengers run that is a nostalgic love letter to older comics. Heroes are heroes and villains are villains and good triumphs over evil. The Avengers all live in the mansion and are BFFs. I love it. It does assume that you are already a fan of the Avengers, because it starts out by summoning pretty much everyone who has ever been an Avenger and is available to the mansion, and that is... a lot of people. Thirty-nine, by my count. Also, when the entire team is magically whisked away, we are treated to the following narration, as Steve disappears: "And Captain America's last thought, as the world goes white around him, and he with it -- is that Iron Man would hate this."
Tumblr media
The narration doesn't tell you why Iron Man would hate this, or how Captain America would know that Iron Man hates this. This is not explained later on. But if you have read comics -- or if you have read the above summary of Doomquest -- you know that Tony is absolutely, one hundred percent, thinking, "I hate magic." And Steve knows it.
The reference is not relevant to the plot; if you don't get it, you'll be fine. But that's what I mean when I say this is a nostalgia run. There are definitely Easter eggs for people who have read a bunch of comics. Busiek does this a whole lot in his work -- there's a reason you can buy an annotated edition of Marvels -- and, yeah, it happens here too. Just know that there will be references you're not getting, if you're new to comics.
Anyway. So Busiek's run actually starts out with an Arthurian arc, #1-4, "The Morgan Conquest." The name is a dead giveaway. Yes, Morgan le Fay is back. Again. For once, Doom is not involved.
The Avengers are all back from their sojourn on Counter-Earth after fighting Onslaught -- don't worry about it -- and mysterious things are happening. There are a lot of monster attacks. So pretty much everyone who has ever been an Avenger is summoned to the mansion, at which point we learn from Thor about some mystical artifacts that are being stolen. (They are the Norn Stones and also the Twilight Sword. That sounds like something from a Zelda game, doesn't it?) The Avengers go to try to stop this, end up in Tintagel, and then they run into Mordred. He wants to capture Wanda, presumably for Magic Reasons. Morgan le Fay casts a spell on all of them, reshaping reality. Yes, all of them. Surprise!
So now all the Avengers are living in a medieval castle and/or town; Morgan is their queen, and thanks to the power of mind-control they are all basically living in Ye Olden Times. The Avengers are all some variety of knight, except for Wanda, who is chained up in the dungeon so Morgan can steal her magic and use it to fuel all this reality-warping.
Wanda calls for help, and that snaps Steve (Yeoman America!) out of the mind control (or altered reality or whatever you want to call it) pretty fast, because Steve's always been very good at resisting mind control, and then Steve promptly goes and snaps Clint out of it, because I guess Steve is also good at inspiring people to snap out of mind control. "Oh, man!" Clint says. "Not another alternate reality! Not again!" (I assume he's referring to Counter-Earth? Maybe?)
Tumblr media
So Steve and Clint go around reassembling the Avengers and orienting them as to reality. They get Jan and Monica easily, but then Steve insists on trying to get Tony because, I guess, he likes Tony and would really like to hang around Tony, who is half-naked and asleep in his bedroom, and certainly I am reading nothing whatsoever into this. Clint tells Steve it's not going to work. Tony has historically been fairly susceptible to mind control; it was only pretty recently at this point that he'd been doing Kang's bidding in The Crossing. But the more serious impediment is that this is Tony Stark and he would obviously like to LARP being a knight forever and ever. Tony, therefore, does not believe Steve, and throws him and Clint out of his bedroom and into the barracks.
Tumblr media
"Iron Man's a good guy, normally," Clint says. "But he's waaay too into his whole nobleman/lord of the manor trip. That spell musta hit him right where he lives!"
Tumblr media
Clint speaks the truth, clearly.
Anyway, they go around and manage to make pretty much every Avenger in the room other than Tony snap out, and attempt to rebel against Morgan while Tony is stil fighting them because he is Still A Knight. There's a lot of punching, because some of the Avengers still aren't free; they weren't ones Steve found.
The day is saved when Wanda manages to channel Wonder Man and break free. This gives the Avengers a fighting chance against Morgan and the Avengers are all lending Wanda their power when Tony finally snaps out of it and is on the side of good.
Tumblr media
Then they take Morgan down, go home, and attempt to figure out which of these thirty-nine people should be on the active Avengers team. Hooray.
But that's not the end of Morgan le Fay showing up to screw around with Tony's life! There's more to come! Not much, but there is one that I know of, and at least one more memorable reference.
(I haven't read all her appearances or anything, but one of them definitely involves Tony; I can't swear that he doesn't appear in any of the other books Morgan shows up in, but it'd be a cameo for him, because I only know of one more arc that she's in in a book that Tony stars in.)
In a few more years, we have now entered the part of Marvel Comics history where Brian Michael Bendis writes all the Avengers books at the same time for, like, seven years running. It was sure A Time. There were a lot of word bubbles.
And the thing about Bendis is, Bendis looooooves Doomquest. If you're familiar with the very end of his tenure at Marvel where he made Doom be Iron Man after Tony got knocked into a coma in Civil War II, you have probably figured out already that he likes Doom. But he also likes Doomquest, specifically.
I mean, if nothing else, the giant splash page in The Confession where Maleev redrew the climactic Doomquest fight while Bendis had Tony talk about how deeply meaningful to his understanding of the world this all was -- and how it allowed him to predict Civil War -- was probably a big clue, right?
Tumblr media
As far as I am aware, Morgan le Fay makes exactly one more appearance in Tony's life. And that's in Mighty Avengers vol 1 #9-11. Only one of those issues is named, so I'm going to assume the arc is named after it: Time Is On No One's Side.
You remember Mighty Avengers, right? The deal with the Avengers books at the time was that after Bendis exploded the mansion and made the team disband in Avengers Disassembled, the main Avengers book was no longer called just Avengers. Instead, the main Avengers book was New Avengers, and that was the only Avengers book. Then Civil War happened, Steve got killed, and New Avengers became the book about what was left of the SHRA resistance (i.e., Steve's side) after the war. So about halfway through New Avengers, Mighty Avengers starts up, and Mighty Avengers is about an extremely fucked-up and grief-stricken Tony Stark trying to run the official government-sanctioned Avengers team, with Carol's help. This is the comic with the arc where Tony turned into naked girl Ultron. You remember.
So, anyway, there's this Mighty Avengers arc where Doom is Up To Something (there are symbiotes and a satellite involved) and somehow Tony and the Avengers end up in Latveria, punching Doom. Also, by the way, Doom is visiting Morgan in the past because he likes her. The Avengers attacking his castle made him have to come back to the present, so he's kind of cranky. And he fights Tony, and in the course of the fight, his time platform explodes and sends Doom and Tony and also the Sentry to... the past.
This is one of those times where you should definitely look up the comics if possible because the way the past is visually indicated here is that it's colored with halftone dots the way you would expect old comics to be colored, although they have modern shading and color palettes. It's very charmingly retro.
Tumblr media
So the three of them are stuck in New York in the past, and naturally they would like to leave. There's one person in this time who has a time machine and it is, of course, Reed Richards. Doom and Tony have a lot of banter in this arc; I think it's entertaining.
Tumblr media
Sentry has to be the one to break them all into the Baxter Building because of that power he has where no one will remember him. So they do that, travel forward in time, and end up in Latveria in the present again except Doom is gone and also things are currently exploding where they are.
Doom, of course, has made a side trip to visit Morgan again and he asks her to help him build an army, because I guess this is what their relationship is like. So the rest of the Avengers are captured by what look to me like Mindless Ones and are in a cave in magic bondage, because comics. Jess comments that at least they aren't naked, because she too is remembering that memorable New Avengers trip to the Savage Land. Doom threatens Carol in some creepy sexist ways and eventually it turns out that Tony and the Sentry are fine and everyone kicks Doom's ass. Business as usual.
And the last page of the arc is Morgan alone, wondering where Doom is. So technically Morgan and Tony don't come face to face here, but I think she counts as being at least partially responsible for ruining Tony's day here. And then Secret Invasion happens and Tony has a very, very bad day.
There are a few more Morgan appearances after this, but, as I said, I don't think any of them involve Tony. She shows up in Dark Avengers, apparently, which was one of the post-Civil War Avengers titles I didn't read, and I know that recently, on the X-Men side of things, she's been in Tini Howard's Excalibur one, which I have only read a little of. No Tony there. Just a lot of Morgan and Betsy Braddock and Brian Braddock and the Otherworld.
If you are interested in Morgan's other appearances, you might like this Marvel listicle that is Morgan le Fay's six most malicious acts. I pulled some of the Darkhold backstory from their discussion, but it's not really focused on Morgan and Tony.
So there you have it! That's everything I know about Tony's love for King Arthur and every run-in I know about that he's had with Morgan le Fay! One of two terrible people in Tony's life named Morgan! Actually, I don't think we've seen Morgan Stark in a while. I wonder if he's alive. There should be a Morgan & Morgan team-up. I should probably stop typing and post this.
The tl;dr point is that you should all read Doomquest and its sequels, especially Legacy of Doom. They're great!

survey by brock-checkitout
Do you like cheese? Yeah but not to an obsessive extent like most people on the internet seem to be. I have a lower tolerance when it comes to cheeses with stronger or more pungent flavors, and I like sticking to those on the creamy side, like feta and burrata.
What type of shampoo do you use? Dove.
Do turtles make you happy? I mean not as much as dogs would but they are animals, so encountering one would still make me giddy and happy :)))
Name one person who snores in their sleep. Both of my parents, which is why I used to dread whenever we’d book a trip and there’s only one main room available for the 5 of us.
Would you walk around a grocery store with a bra as glasses? Sure, if I was gonna do it for like a cause or something. Or if I got paid for it. I can’t imagine why I’d ever have to casually/randomly do it. Also how would that even work, if it actually had to work as glasses???
Can you do the HoeDown ThrowDown? That movie came out when we were in the midst of moving houses and everything was super hectic in my little 10 year old life, so I never got to wach it, actually. I missed out on the whole Hoedown Throwdown craze and I distinctly remember jealously watching over my classmates as they danced it together.
Do you like Hershey's Chocolate bars? Just the cookies and cream variant.
What smiley face do you use the most? :) I very rarely use others.
What type of cell phone do you have? I have an iPhone 8.
Do you listen to rap? Not so much. For the most part, I stick to my tried and tested albums, like Jay-Z and Kanye’s Watch the Throne.
Look at something green, does it have batteries in it? That would be a nearby alcohol bottle, and no, it does not need batteries.
What's the first thing that comes to your mind when I say: PRINTER? Ink and paper.
What is the last cuss word you said out loud? Not so sure, but since I commonly say shit and fuck they could serve as safe enough guesses.
Do you like cows? Sure.
What kind of car does your mother drive? These days we split ‘my’ car between us since we sold our third car, which used to be the one she’d usually drive. The new arrangement used to bug me at first because it meant I now had to notify my mom in advance whenever I planned to drive out, but I’ve since gotten used to the setup.
What do you get in your tacos? I don’t eat tacos. Not that I dislike them; there are just many other Mexican dishes I find more filling.
What is your opinion on blueberries? As a flavor, it’s fine. But I actually tried an actual blueberry for the very first time last week when my aunt sent over a blueberry cheesecake - I really wanted to give it a chance, but I still found it nasty :( I really don’t know why I hate fruits so much lmao.
Are you currently wearing lip gloss/chap stick? Nopes.
Is there a bottle of lotion near you? There isn’t.
Name one person that you know that smokes. Sam smokes superexcessively. Like I’ve completely forgotten how much she can smoke in an evening until I hung out with her again a few weeks ago. It was half impressive and half terrifying; and my clothes ended up smelling because of it.
What's your favorite season? We don’t have the usual four seasons, but based on what I’ve seen in media, spring and winter look and feel the most pleasant to me.
Are any of your friends vegetarians? No.
What is one phrase that you hate hearing? “All lives matter” really pisses me off.
Can you name four presidents right now? Rodrigo Duterte, Ramon Magsaysay, Fidel Ramos, Diosdado Macapagal. But because I’m guessing this meant American presidents...George W. Bush, John F. Kennedy, Andrew Jackson, Harry Truman.
What is the first thing you think of when I say: HOOD? A jacket.
Do you currently own a cat? Nope.
What do you think of Ulta? I think of the fact that I’ve never heard of that before and I don’t actually know what this is referring to.
Have you ever walked into a club and asked for a Coke? No.
Do you like classical music? Sure, some.
What is your opinion on Oreos? I had the biscuits like a billion times as a kid to the point that I got sick of them. I will always pick the Oreo flavor in other desserts though, be it cheesecake, cupcake, cookies, milkshakes, tc.
Do you like Chips-Ahoy? No, tastes too artificial/processed. I’ll always go for freshly-baked cookies.
What did ya think of this survey? It was fine. I *think* I haven’t taken this before either, so that’s a plus lol.

survey by carolynnnnonia
1. What time did you wake up this morning? Around 6:30ish.
2. When did you take your default picture? It’s not a photo of me, it’s a still from BoJack Horseman. Years ago I saw someone on Twitter use it as a default and I found it hilarious, so I decided to do the same thing for this blog.
3. Are you hungry? Mmm not so much right now actually. I had a midnight snack that I only got to finish by like 2 AM so I still feel pretty filled.
4. Have you ever cheated on a test? Yup but just once. When I ended up perfecting the exam I cheated on, I felt like a fraud and I’ve never cheated since. I’d rather get an honest 99 than get a 100 that I’m ashamed of, lol.
5. When was the last time you ate ice cream? I think it had been last week when we had a cookies and cream tub in the fridge.
6. What computer game is in your CPU? I don’t play PC games and it’s been a hoooooot minute since I’ve seen a CPU.
7. Do you like Audrey Hepburn? You’ve come to the right person :))) Yup, obsessed. Have watched her entire filmography except for the ones that are impossible to find DVDs of or online.
8. What color is your winter jacket?
9. Do you have any siblings? Yup.
10. Would you call yourself skinny? Not anymore. I’ve filled up a bit over the last few years but I’m still usually seen as thin. I was a lot skinnier in my teens.
11. Does your phone take pictures? Yes, 2008 survey, it does.
12. Who is your favorite neighbor? They’re not really neighbors, but the construction workers who are currently working on a new house from across ours are crazy over Cooper and love to greet him and give him a few pats when I take him out. My actual neighbors are rather quiet and we tend to keep to ourselves.
13. Do you wish at 11:11? No.
14. Have you ever gotten a detention? We don’t have detention here.
15. Do you still watch Disney Channel? Nah, we took out our cable last year because no one was using it anymore. And I doubt there’s anything watchable on Disney Channel for a twentysomething?? Lmao I usually stick to the shows and movies I grew up with, so.
16. Who did you last IM? Angela.
17. Who is your least favorite teacher? Whoever hated me for no reason in middle and high school. Then in college, I had to power through a misogynist, sexist, delusional Duterte-supporting professor for an entire semester as well.

What is a relationship to be continued
You may ask yourself why this is Important yet it is very important! We will discuss Why they are important to your well being and what type of person you are in a relationship? I think if you take the time to read this post in its entirety and intense complexity you will have a better understanding of where you are in life and what more you can become by understanding the perplexity of every relation to man or relationship because trust me THIS BABY is going to get TOUGH.
Lets start of with the first question what is a relationship
the way in which two or more people, groups, countries, etc., talk to, behave toward, and deal with each other. : a romantic or sexual friendship between two people. : the way in which two or more people or things are connected.
Please go ahead and read one more time because that may or may not be the closest thing of a relationship to that you have a mutual relation  and understanding of but its way, way more complex just keep reading.
Each relationship we have encountered has been determined by how we were raised Im going to refer to some quick psycho-social information coming from a study introduced during world war 2 by British psychoanalyst john bowbly, whose lonely childhood gave him a lifelong interest in the power of parenthood.
In the 1970s a test was conducted by Bowlby’s student Mary Ainsworth. She performed the strange situation test where children that's age ranged from 12-18 months were put  in a toy-filled room with their mother and given a chance to play. A stranger enters and interacts with the parent and child, then mom exited the room-- leaving behind a confused and alarmed little kid. A few minutes later mom returned and comforted her toddler. Needless to say being separated from the person who feeds, protects, and tends to you is frighting for any toddler, but the test showed definite categories of reaction to that fear.
Why is this important ?
Early Attachment.
As seen above you can see that a study was conducted concerning attachment styles. It's important because it is with this information that you find out what type of relationships You are going to be compatible with. Some types absolutely do not collide but if you think this is all about “how do i form a relationship” well keep reading because its not possible for everyone.
1 Secure, when it is evident to have a secure attachment style when the parenting style was: Warm, attentive, relatively consistent, and quick to respond based on that approach the child's Baseline Emotional Status (BES) would have been happy, confident, and curious which would have subconsciously continues into adulthood with the Child’s expectation of life being: My need will be met
2. Anxious -Ambivalent/resistant, it is evident to have an anxious attachment style when the parenting style was: Inconsistent: sometimes responsive and sometimes not. The Child's BES would have been Insecure, anxious, and intensely emotional which in return would have subconsciously continued into adulthood with the child's expectation of life being: “IF i act in the right ways, I might earn love and my needs may be met”
3. Avioident- ,it is evident to have a avoidant attachment style when the parenting style was: Distant and Cold, or harsh and critical. The child's BES would have been Emotionally shut down which in return would have subconsciously continued into adulthood with the child's expectation of life being: “I can't trust anyone to meet my needs. I must meet my own needs.
Im sure your getting the idea of why this is now important
Lets looks at three statements
1 I find it relatively easy to get close to others and am comfortable depending on them. I don't often worry about being abandoned or about someone getting too close to me.
2. I find that others are reluctant to get as close as I would like. I often worry that my partner doesn't really love me or doesn't want to stay with me. I want to get very close to my partner, and this sometimes scares people away.
3 i am somewhat uncomfortable being close to others:  i find it difficult to trust them completely, difficult to allow myself to depend on them. I am nervous when anyone gets too close, and often, love partners want me to be more intimate than i feel comfortable being
In 1987 psychologist cindy hazan and philip shaver reported the results of the statements above  they called it the ‘love quiz’
56% of adults respondents had identified themselves as secure, 19% as anxious and 25% as avoidant
The perfect combination
Secure people tend to have the most secure relationships, and a relationship needs only ONE secure partner to get that stability. With a partner who is happy to give reassurance and isn't threatened by the idea of being needed, an anxious person can relax, and is often loyal and loving. With someone who doesn't take it personally when their partner wants time alone, avoidant people can worry less about being tied down- however, most of the compromises in the relationship will likely be made by the secure partner. The real problem comes when two insecure types get together. If relationships often get messy for you, learning to recognize attachment styles and understanding how they clash can give you a path through the conflict
But then again Here comes perhaps the most perlex question i can ask? What happens in adult hood when you experience the pain and turama of a heartbreak?
What particularly does that do to each individual and how do they cope?
Do some people perhaps just shut down! Absolutely not! One subconsciously gains the ability to cope with their losses how? Lets start with:
Sexual compulsion – Relationship with sex, attachment and sexual orientation
I know your wondering What the Fuck where did this just turn to but trust me, or dont but you may or may not want to hear this or perhaps your brain craves the knowledge to understand and you ask yourself why your life is working in the way it is; remembemer its all in you!
I believe the first coping skill for some may be Hypersexuallity which I will refer to later.
2. I believe a conduct Disorder  DSM-IV-TR 314.9 Is primary consistent with feelings of Emotional shock from a previous ‘heartbreaking’ or traumatic event.
I will explain. I'm going to refer to the diagnostic features of conduct disorder which manifest itself  as a repetitive and persistent pattern in  which the basic rights of others or major age-appropriate societal norms or rules are violated. These behaviours fall into four main groupings” Criteria A1-A7 aggressive conduct that causes or threatens physical harm to other people or animals .
Or see criteria A8-A9 nonaggressive conduct that causes property loss or damage Or see A9 - A13, DECEITFULNESS OR THEFT
It is definite that promiscuous behavior is dangerous therefore someone engaging in Criteria a1-a7 w/o aggression and associated with parts or in hole with A8-9
Furthermore  the prevalence of conduct disorder appears to have increased over the last decades and may be higher in urban than in rural settings.
Course.
Individuals with conduct disorder are at risk for later mood disorders, anxiety disorders, somatoform disorders, and substance related disorders.
Sexual addiction, also known as hypersexual disorder, is associated with serious psychosocial problems for many people.
Sexual addiction, which is also known as hypersexual disorder, has been associated with serious psychosocial problems for many people although it has not been recognized as a disorder that merits inclusion in the DSM (Quadland, 1985) – see Karila et al. (2014) for review. Originally, Carnes (1983)published a book titled Out of the shadows: Understanding sexual addiction, which has raised interest in the area and facilitated a discussion on the best way to define and diagnose the disorder. Despite different views about pathological characteristics of sexual addiction there is an agreement that this is a progressive relapsing condition which does not merely refer to a pathological diagnosis of sexual lifestyle that is socially deviant (Edger, 2010).
Sexual addiction involves compulsive behaviors such as constantly seeking new sexual partners, having frequent sexual encounters, engaging in compulsive masturbation and frequently using pornography. Despite efforts to reduce or stop excessive sexual behaviors individuals find it difficult to stop and they engage in risky sexual activities, pay for sexual services and resist behavioral changes to avert HIV risk (Carnes, 1991; Coleman-Kennedy & Pendley, 2002; Coleman, Raymond & McBean, 2003; Kalichman & Rompa, 1995). Sexual compulsivity has been associated with the number of unprotected vaginal sex acts with female sexual workers, lower self-efficacy for condom use, greater use of illicit drugs, and more financial need (Semple et al., 2010).
Cognitive and emotional symptoms include obsessive thoughts of sex, feelings of guilt about excessive sexual behavior, the desire to escape from or suppress unpleasant emotions, loneliness, boredom, low self-esteem, shame, secrecy regarding sexual behaviors, rationalization about the continuation of sexual behaviors, indifference toward a regular sexual partner, a preference for anonymous sex, a tendency to disconnect intimacy from sex, and an absence of control in many aspects of life (Carnes, 2000, 2001; Carnes & Schneider, 2000; Coleman et al., 2003; Coleman-Kennedy & Pendley, 2002). Finally, some studies find that sexual addiction is associated with or in response to dysphoric affects (Black, Kehrberg, Flumerfelt & Schlosser, 1997; Raymond, Coleman & Miner, 2003; Reid, 2007; Reid, Carpenter, Spackman & Willes, 2008; Reid & Carpenter, 2009) or stressful life events (Miner et al., 2007).
Attachment theory (Bowlby, 1979, 1982) argued that early attachment experiences affect personal and social life, professional relationships, dealing with stress, mental and physical health and cognitive development. According to recent developments in attachment theory, those who developed a safe attachment style which is not anxious or avoidant during infancy can form healthy relationships in adolescence and adulthood and handle life problems (Uytun, Oztop, Esel & Mdusunen, 2013). Individuals with secure attachment are expected to have low chances of becoming addicted to sex since they regulate and limit their sexual activity more than those with insecure attachment (Zapf, Greiner & Carroll, 2008). Furthermore, individuals who are addicted to sex are looking for sexual activity without the need for emotional relationships and they are more likely to be characterized by avoidant or anxious attachment (Gentzler & Kerns, 2004).
Gay men are diverse with respect to the sexual behaviors they both desire and enact (Moskowitz & Roloff, 2010; Sanderson, 1994). Moreover, gay men differ from other groups in their sexual behavior. Research shows that, on average, gay men have more partners, engage in more risky sexual behavior, and are more likely to seek sexual sensation than other groups, such as heterosexual men, women and lesbians (Bailey, Gaulin, Agyei & Gladue, 1994; Ekstrand, Stall, Paul, Osmond & Coates, 1999; Thompson, Yager & Martin, 1993). But among homosexual men there is variability in the propensity to engage in compulsive unprotected sex. Meyer and Dean (1995) have reported that about 6% of their 149 young New York City gay men (aged 18–24 years) engaged in very high risk behavior, defined as unprotected receptive anal intercourse with multiple partners. It appears that very high risk takers are qualitatively different from other risk takers: they reported more mental health problems, including more drug use and higher levels of internalized homophobia and AIDS-related traumatic stress response. Furthermore, there are moderators of sexual behavior among gay men such as being in monogamous relationships. Also sexual health and sexual health behaviors for example sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) were most influential over the enactment of sexual behavior or desires (Moskowitz & Roloff, 2010).
Few studies investigated sexual compulsivity among heterosexual and homosexual men. Furthermore, to the best of our knowledge, the relationships between compulsive sexual behavior and attachment and sexual preference or orientation have not been investigated before. We have therefore investigated sexual compulsivity and attachment style among populations of heterosexual and homosexual men and women. We hypothesized that secure attachment would be associated with lower rates of sex compulsion. Secondly, that homosexual men and women would show higher levels of sexual compulsivity than heterosexual men and women. Thirdly, we hypothesized that attachment style might mediate between sexual orientation and sexual compulsion.

its 11:59 its still technically tonight so
this is gonna be my reference point to questions abt venezuela, at least regarding things pre- May 19 2019. Its a bit scattered and it may get edited down along the road, but yeah.
short version that draws some similar conclusions: https://www.salon.com/2019/05/17/the-plot-to-kill-venezuela_partner/
one difference in scales that’s important to keep in mind: the lifespan of people is 2-7 decades. the lifespan of colonialism lasts centuries. the lifespan of media memory is a couple years, tops.
Most western narratives of venezuela start meaningfully at chavez, which is a mistake. The focus point in history around which the country flowed was the Caracazo. You probably already know about this, but a massive uprising took place in the heart of Caracas, against decades of dictatorship both formal and informal, after severe instability in the global oil market. The people were hungry, the riots were fiery, and the bullets bled. knows the death toll even now, but its estimated well into the thousands.  This happened pre-chavez, and started a cascade of events which brought him into limelight that you can read about here. not gonna go into more venezuelan history, but i talk a bit more here
chavez was democratically elected, multiple times.
in 2002, after his first democratic election, he was kidnapped by US-backed troops and replaced by someone who threw out the 1999 constitution, which was as legitimate as any other made in venezuela’s colonial and violently capitalist history, seeing as it was the first (aka only, so far) of 26 constitutions actually approved by popular referendum. He was reinstated largely due to massive protests in support of him. Maduro however doesn’t really have as much of the charisma and support of chavez, which is creating problems - as well as exacerbating problems created by the economic crises ramping up just around chavez’s death. In 2015, there were elections to the National Assembly, which ended up with the Opposition winning a majority of the seats (which does show that there’s some degree of fairness in the elections, at least verifiably up til that point, yet that isnt rly accounted for when western media describes it as “undemocratic” - many of whom don’t apply the same scrutiny to their own country: such as this UN Human Rights councilor who also happens to be the crown prince of british-iraq, currently residing in the noted democracy of the Kingdom of Jordan, which has no vested interest or control over any particular export of Venezuela.).
This turnout showed most of all that maduro had alienated as many as 2 million of his supporters, who didnt end up voting (though many also voted against him - trying to act on their feeling that whatever they want, its “not this”). This decreasing support also accelerates whats known as “Everyday Sabotage” - people not trusting in the government, and look out for their own interests contra everyone else. This is a danger inherent to tying “Socialism” to a primarily state project.
However 1999 Constitution was never meant as an eternal document & it created mechanisms to call for new popular constitutional referendums to be held. That’s what the “Constituent Assembly” is about, which is what a lot of the western world is describing as him singlehandedly rewriting it (while also being “vague about its contents”), or “created by him”. Elections to the constituent assembly were boycotted by opposition, so that it would be government controlled & look like a sham in the eyes of the broader world. That being said, the assembly was called both as a reaction to losing election but also in response to intensifying crises - it was put forth (i don’t see any reason to believe in bad faith) as a way to come together and figure out how to address the needs that were driving people to protest - to address the desire for “not this”, but bc of the uncertainty, it was easily twistable by reactionaries by putting all emphasis on the former. Also timing corresponds with increasing fears of maduro straying from the path of chavez, the image of scrapping one of his strongest plays for smth unknown is risky - tho if there are other meaningful options given the situation im not sure. And the body’s got at least as much constitutional legitimacy as Guaido  (Chapter III)
The 1999 constitution also enabled a recall election to be called against maduro in 2016, bc it was written with particular attention to holding public officials accountable - similar noble commitments helped to end the presidency of Rousseff & bring in Bolsonaro (who was also one of the people spurring on the investigations and whipping up a social base).
     (speaking of guaido & bolsonaro)
on Guaido:
part of student group in 2007 protesting against non-renewal of coup-assisting network, who the CFR (one of the major think tanks of the cold war still playing a big role in foreign policy today) considered “most important network”
close friend of Leopoldo Lopez, the aforementioned coup plotter.
politician since 2010, won a couple small elections
Unknown to majority of general population until 2019, most venezuelans surveyed didnt know him
Plan Pais
plans to privatize state owned industry & allow investment from foreign oil companies
center-right neoliberal draped in platitudes of “stability”, “revitalization”, “security”, and “rescue” - a message seemingly deliberately targeted to become more and more resonant with increased sanctions.
/on Guaido
governing is about the expression of power. I wanna live in a world where that power isn’t expressed, but as long as the exploitation of the global working class continues unabated, id prefer some of that power be put towards helping the poor.
there is no such thing as a static state of affairs, there’s no “goldilocks zone” out in the political universe where we tweak things finely until we find whats best for everyone, only different rates of change in different dimensions. what we need to do is figure out how we can push that state of affairs in a direction so that everyday people have the power to take control of their lives. re
re: “constitutionality” - if the supreme court calls it constitutional then its constitutional. period. There’s no such thing as a supreme court as an “independent branch” of government, but there are different degrees of integration into the rest of it.
The Supreme Tribunal of Venezuela has 32 members, (a bit more than a dozen put in by the national assembly, while the PSUV held it), and the opposition holds abt 3 away from a supermajority. Each member of the court holds their spot for 12 years. If that’s “The Most Corrupt In The World” according to Transparency International, i wonder what world the 9-person lifetime-appointed US Supreme Court (2 of which appointed by trump, and save for pulling a Weekend At Ginsbergs, likely 3) is on. In fact, one of the tactics that the more radical circles of democrat voters are putting forward is to pack the Supreme Court. Because thats how shit actually gets done, or at the least how shit is prevented from being committed w the stamp of legality. FDR learned that lesson too, in trying to pass what is today known as “The New Deal”
My comparisons to trump are for specific end: these actions are exerted on levers of liberal democracy, and every single liberal democracy is susceptible to them in some ways.
whats a “dictator”? if hes unelected, the millions of people who participated in the elections dont seem to think so. if maduro is a dictator, then what is donald trump? the majority of ppl didnt vote for him yet hes still governing. macron’s popularity has at several points been less than 1/3, and the yellow vest protestors have been violently attacked - why is he not “a violent dictator with only the support of the military”? These terms are not neutral.
“their elections are highly flawed” So What? show me a country whose elections arent.
“opposition jailed” - ok but coup plotters don’t get off easy in any liberal democracy. If someone - say Bernie Sanders - said “enough is enough” and succeeded in overthrowing the current government with the help of a foreign government…. you think they’d let him go free? what if ten years later he was getting his supporters all riled up to do it again? how long you think he’d be in jail for (assuming he can survive well into his 100’s)? You think more than 13 years? Think he’d get house arrest? Some US states lock you up for posessing weed up to 10. If you stay long enough around this blog, youll find plenty of other examples of much more cruel and unusual punishments. Look at Chelsea Manning, look at Oscar Riviera…   look at the US protestors saying Guaido is illegitimate
what we have to keep in mind most of all, is to show that the contradictions being exploited are inherent to Liberalism. Contradictions are just expressed most freely at the margins - the interstices
poor economic decisions happen everywhere - 2008/2009 still affecting the entire world there’s violence thats “natural”, and violence thats “intolerable”. The dividing line is whether we have anything to gain by changing things.
sanctions:    started under obama, originally targeted specific individuals, used as precedent for more generalized. They’re indirect - they have a “squeezing effect”, takes already-existing problems & just makes them markedly worse. also doesn’t necessarily correlate with emigration, bc it takes a lot of money to start a new life somewhere else, and sanctions disproportionately affect the poor.
war wouldnt likely look like (many) US boots on the ground - we’ve got plenty of other places to be. It’d look like guns being smuggled to counter-protestors. It’d look like sending resources to neighboring countries like Colombia or Brazil who would then use their troops. Colombias ruling party is right wing populists - much of current president’s campaign was run on fearmongering abt venezuelan socialism - they’re raring to go. It’d look like drones https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caracas_drone_attack. Also means there likely won’t be a sudden trigger, its a gradually escalating stressful gradually-more-warlike situation.
If war does break out - where would the refugees go?  In reality the majority would go to Colombia, but if anything significant breaks out there will be a stream of those looking to find shelter in the US, which has advertised itself as a beacon of hope - what would happen to them? some may get taken in as a gesture of showmanship, but nowhere close to the majority.
speaking of the US - imagine if trump and bolton manage to actually plot a winning coup. Do you think that that wont be his main bullwark against ppl like Bernie? you think the media and rest of the democratic party wont jump on that narrative and “begrudgingly” support a fascist because the alternative might mean supporting single payer and not-having-good-for-ratings-climate-apocalypse?
another term thrown around without regard is “once vibrant” - for whom?
most articles ive seen just take this as an axiom, and dont find any cognitive dissonance when also saying chavez reduced poverty hugely.
Tumblr media
The answer to that rhetorical question: Citgo is venezuelan, before chavez none of the wealth went back to venezuela - thats what “vibrancy” means.
     many similarities with BP (the-artist-formerly-known-as-the-anglo-iranian-oil-company)
in age of climate change & vocal ppl about phasing out oil, the more one’s livelihood is connected to oil, the more unstable ones country will be - either that, or the more instability ones country will cause.
“Oil exports fell by $2,200 per capita from 2012 to 2016, of which $1,500 was due to the decline in oil prices.”
The drop in price that affected the venezuelan economy so much in 2014 was largely by US shale fracking
Tumblr media
in 1970’s Chile, copper was the main product of Chile - allende nationalized the mines, and in return wall street dropped the
(also worth noting that venezuela’s got non-insignificant untapped shale basins)
At least venezuela used the oil money to fund social programs instead of like, pad the pockets of Raytheon.
also oil price wars in africa highly correlated w oil (whose annual production doesn’t even combined total venezuelas)
a couple ppl have raised concerns abt my strong stance on equivocal dismissal - if there’s a difference, if there’s some way of reading your statement that says “X country that the State Dept wants to invade is an anomoly in the otherwise free world”, then that’s acting to push the discourse towards normalization & invasion. It’s not “whataboutism”, just basic consistency.
now more than ever, narratives are affected by people. They may not be ones we had a hand in forging, but the way that we propagate them actually does have measurable effects on the larger-scale political outcomes. Always look for the base assumptions, as well as the direction
sure denounce Chavez. sure denounce Maduro. denounce Kim, Xi, Castro, anyone. But if there’s no equally or proportionally loud denunciations of the horrors perpetrated by allies - the “assumed”, “natural” violence, then you’re acting to reinforce the narrative of exceptionalism.
Just make sure after you take a breath, you denounce Saudi Arabia & Yemen, Israel for Palestine, the conditions which brought Argentinian/Brazillian, Brazilian coup, the US for Puerto Rico, the conditions which have murdered dozens of journalists in Mexico per year…
what people want most of all is stability. “A debate over whether it is mismanagement and corruption by the Maduro government or the sanctions that are the author of the crisis is largely irrelevant. The point is that a combination of the reliance on oil revenues and the sanctions policy has crushed the policy space for any stability in the country.”
government’s errors and tensions
fixed exchange rate -> black market
took 5 years to address changing relation between dollar & BsF, all the room between those two curves left a huge room for intensifying crises, though since it also corresponds with the death of chavez, it sorta makes sense.
antidemocratic actions and remarks by maduro
scattered responses filled w half-solutions
diversification needed, but how do you diversify an economy filled with rampant poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy…
(nominally begrudging) support for mineral extraction 12.4% of territory opened to extraction - “Special Economic Zone” as a method of managing decay
this is also what much of the reality of “economic diversification” looks like
not enough socialism. (even fox agrees!) Venezuela shows the limits of Social Democracy in countries living outside of the Imperial Core - esp the dangers if you’re in the crosshairs already bc of oil
started out as populism, gradually grew as confronted more.            shows shaping influence on political organs from actions of foreign actors - if you’ve survived a coup before, you’re gonna become paranoid about any more of them - especially when the coup plotters say “hey lets do more coups”
also shows the weakness of only having a small number of charasmatic faces representing the movement - if one dies and theres no clear and popular replacement, then you’ll lose ppl who were largely brought in by the charisma, weakening your political project, and creating cracks for reactionary forces to take advantage of - especially in times of transition.
bourgeoisie still control a majority of the economy.            Capitalist businesses are internally unaccountable, and in this age of intensified global trade, one can punish countries for straying from the pack by moving business & focus away. If you’re looking for dictatorships, look at the thousands of private companies run as dictatorships daily
capital flight is a real effect, precisely because socialism is fundamentally and irreconcilably against the self-interest of the bourgeoisie. not necessarily against the interest of the humans-who-are-also-bourgeois, but of the impersonal self-sustaining force of capital.
Have you ever pulled something out of an electrical socket, and seen a quick spark? The reason that occurs is bc of what’s called an induction current, which is a fancy physics word for flowing electricity not liking to suddenly change its flow. If you accidentally touch that spark, you might feel it, but youll live to tell the tale. But if you only take the plug out halfway & touch it, that’s a different story.  Capital flows similarly.
my country (lithuania) has been facing sky-high emigration since the collapse of the USSR (with an added boost after 08-09), we have also consistently had one of the highest suicide rates in the world (#7), a minimum wage of about 3 Euros an hour (after a recent increase), as well as one of the highest prison populations in Europe (discounting Russia & Belarus… which like….)
when are we gonna be invaded? when will the US media talk about our pain?
oh wait, they did. We cried all pretty for the TV cameras, then they got a bozo nobody really knew of to denounce the government, who they called dictatorial (though it was far from ideal, massive bureaucracies dont tend to mix well with single-person-decision-making). And to be fair, the fact that the government was unpopular wasnt entirely undeserved. But what was promised to us was the idea of “Freedom”, “Free Enterprise”; to “Get Rid of Corruption” and institute “Real” Democracy". They said we’d be integrated into the glorious capitalist west, and we understood that to mean that we’d be in the position of a Germany, or at least an Austria or smth. But they never meant to integrate us into the imperial Core, we have always been seen as part of the Periphery - the “assumed” violence that “naturally” happens.
Then we got to where we our today. Some of the stuffs more available, but expensive. Most of the bureaucracy’s still around, it just helps fewer people. We stand as an example of what to expect, in one of the best case scenarios, you would join our emigrees now making up a significant percentage of underpaid house-servants aka maids across the EU.
if we want the people of Venezuela to be healthy, safe, and fulfilled, then:
speak out and pointing to the effects of US sanctions is incredibly important. They’ve already killed 40,000 people in the last year, and 300,000 more are in extreme danger (and millions more in long-term risk).
what does it mean when you simultaneously sanction trade with a place but also demand they let you give them humanitarian aid?
if there is to be action taken by the international community, then the US has forfeited its right to speak. They threw it away once in 2002, and obama rhetorically picked it up and dusted it off so that trump could throw it in a bigger dumpster, thats also on fire. However we also still live in a world deeply shaped by US Hegemony, so the opinions of its close trade partners & closest-knit media buds should be seen as influenced as such. Doesn’t mean that theyre wrong on everything too, but they still feel the magnetic pull of the US economy and ecosystem (as well as their own potentially imperial interests) and the effect of that force cannot be discounted.
transitioning our economies away from oil & away from globalized neoliberalism which only values peripheral states by their exports - dissolves tensions of how to produce in unproductive terrain
socialize medicine in the US, so that drug companies run by dictatorships can’t control their lives & ours. healthcare is especially reliant on imports, sanctions affect especially strongly.
normalize the ideas of Socialism, without taking the easy way out of “oh no dont think of Venezuela, think of sweden or denmark”. None of them are Socialist, but to avoid the complexities of Venezuela is to imagine that US attempts at socialism wouldn’t involve significant capital flight. If we don’t consider that, if we don’t have solid actionable plans to deal with that, while also facing the inherent complexity of changing material conditions, then we’re gonna waste whatever shot we get.
redirect conversation normally centered around government towards support of the tens of thousands of small business co-operatives, where people live their daily lives in a democratic manner.
on The Communes:
“delegating responsibility throughout all members, and bringing important decisions to the whole to work through and find the best possible solution… They create “collective criteria” together; agreements stipulating whether individuals have power over certain decisions or whether it is up to the whole group. However, he assures that these “are not rigid, they can change at any moment.” The cooperative I lived with in Venezuela had regular organizational meetings where they informally came to agreement and were even able to come back to re-evaluate decisions that didn´t seem to be satisfactory for the whole group in this same way. Decisions and decision making, in this way, are viewed as a process not contained by meetings and discussions in board rooms, but are always being analyzed and made better by the process of putting them into action, and not only by thinking them out and writing them down.”
- the “Self Government of the Producers” - aka what it looks like for cooks to govern.
they have communal councils as well - neighborhood councils in the same vein that so many (rightfully) find inspiring in Kurdistan . They preexisted chavez, but they were able to proliferate and be given legal recognition through him. I understand that legal recognition can act to ‘name’ a body & pin it to smth that doesn’t match its requisite variety - how dynamic it is, but imo as its currently legislated it recognizes a good amount of the autonomy that they had already been excersizing. - liable to change                                government recognition of co-ops has drawbacks too, and correlates negatively with that coop’s success
"A good example of this intention is the de-emphasis that cooperatives in Venezuela put on advertising or “marketing” products, and instead push to find more people to become part of the cooperative, and choose the services or products they provide based on community decisions about what is needed. A cooperative I worked in […] was originally a family owned and operated theater group that traveled around the country performing theater pieces that highlighted social and environmental issues. When they joined the […] cooperative, the larger co-op did an analysis and decided they wanted a natural fruit juice concentrate producer and gave the group a loan to acquire capital and start producing. They have been doing this for only a couple of years now but have already paid back the loan to the larger cooperative and are bringing extra money in to support themselves, better their services, and supply extra funds to the larger cooperative for community projects such as the recently [2012] built community health center…
The cooperative services I experienced and learned about in Venezuela were health, dental, food, and a separate example of trash services. A dental cooperative […] provides quality dental services (I know because I used them) almost every day for affordable prices. You don´t have to be a member of the cooperative, and you don´t have to make an appointment. It takes only a couple of hours, and emergency situations are treated with urgency. The health center, built with funds provided by all the associated cooperatives[…], works the same way. Anyone can go there, the services are subsidized by the cooperative so they are affordable, the clinic and workspaces are clean and well taken care of, and the quality of the service is great. Worker-members of the cooperative receive health care at the facility without charge except for the massage and acupuncture services that they also provide at a really low price.
[…] food services are priced to provide more access to food for the community in which it exists. The original and persistent intention is to make the best situation for people on all ends of the process. The producers are part of the cooperative and are part of the group that decides the prices that growers get, as well as the prices that the food is sold for. This means that both farmers and workers at the market decide what to charge a person, which ultimately affects how much money the growers receive, as well as if the food is affordable for the people who need to eat who live in the city. In a normal capitalist market system these parties are separated and put up against each other, raising prices for consumers and lowering them for small producers, excluding those people from getting enough money to afford all the necessities that are typically only provided at a high price.
One communal council, a parallel governing organization of community members linked to investment funds from the national government, in the city of Merida, Venezuela organized themselves to get funds to buy a trash collection truck. The truck at the time was used for a specific waste removal project that removed waste from their community regularly but was not a traditional collection service. However, they did have plans to expand the project to start their own collection service, and this would be provided by the commal council, an anti-capitalist organization which does not require people to pay for the service. Although this is not a “co-operative” as some hardliner co-operative enthusiasts might point out, it is a horizontal anti-capitalist organization widening access of necessary services to the larger community run by community members; following cooperative values of equity, inclusion, and solidarity I believe this to be an example of cooperative economics and action. It appears to me that economic inclusion is much more likely to widen only when those who are being excluded are included in the process of organizing the services and are in control of the economy.“
until the communes, workers cooperatives, and the like are strong enough to rule themselves, having Maduro in power is the only option given to us which doesn’t trigger the control of reactionaries. People make their own history, but not in situations of their choosing - the exact outcome isn’t predetermined, but there’s only a limited number of poles - gravitational attractors - towards which that trajectory is heading at any particular time.
if maduro acts to squash the power of the communes, then thats a different situation. but until that point, we outside of the country must work to center any discussion on these bodies - they are the heart of the country and of whatever social revolution has occurred/is further possible. They are filled with lessons for us to learn from, and show how rich and dynamic the organized populace can be if they are allowed to control their communities. (ex of dealing with gang violence from @ 22:50)
This is all said with recognition that many chavistas have acted against communes, the bureaucratic machine acts to co-opt much of their energy, its linguistically obscured the concept of "ownership” with that of “control”, and that the state has changed its messages over time. But the heart of the communes is what’s a priority, and they have acted against the government overstepping its bounds & mis-identifying them. But whats important is that there’s a feedback process in the gvt to actually allow them to assert their autonomy. Liberals will do their utmost to close those channels.
If Guaido and the Popular Will take control of power, be assured that whatever gains made in organizing the everyday people of Venezuela will be at the top of the chopping block. How effective that suppression turns out to be is undetermined - it might turn out to strengthen the communes, but that outcome would be damage control, not something to try and bullseye.
Effective Propaganda knows that its more effective to control what’s left out than control what’s put in. Keep that in mind, and study trajectories and forces.

tbh ive been simultaneously distracting myself and trying to gather my thoughts and feelings for the past couple of days
i was already emotional over the fact that sj were finally coming back ~as a whole after their ‘military hiatus’, and idk in a way her death made me appreciate that theyre back and that theyre even still going after 14 years. even though i didnt have like .... ~emotional attachment to her (in that she wasnt exactly a ~bias and ngl i hadnt really been following kpop for the past few years, let alone her career esp after she left f(x)), the fact that f(x) were the first girl group that i followed right from their pre-debut kinda just really hit me. idk how to separate my thoughts. ive just been listening to sj’s album on repeat for the past two days, just enjoying the fact theyre back but at the same time worrying about how theyre coping. im glad they still have each other and theyre as close as they are. but it still worries me esp since teuk has spoken about his depression before, but also his tendency to keep his struggles to himself. but hopefully the members will be able to help each other through this difficult time.
i hope they can still feel the fans support for them. it hurts to hear that teuk had thought this would be their last comeback while preparing for the album because they seemed to be losing fans and people were moving onto younger newer bands and their last couple of releases hadnt been great successes. i guess that’s why there’s all the nostalgic references throughout the album and the whole ~newtro concept. and im glad that his mind was changed after seeing the support at ss8, but it still hurts. i mean, fine, yeah, i hadnt really been into kpop that much since maybe around 2014?? and i didnt keep up to date with their music tbch but they were one of the few groups id actually bother to think about and go back and catch up on every few months.
simply because of the fact that they were the ones who got me into kpop.
and theyre the ones who brought me back.
(well... kyu returning from military to be accurate lmao)
man.... personally its been over a decade. probably around 12 years?? all i can definitely remember is that u was the mv that really introduced me to sj and kpop, that chul in dont don reminded me of reno in ff7:advent children lmfao, but it was defo before sjm debuted, so yeah late 2007-early 2008 was when i got into kpop.
tbh the anticipation this comeback takes me back most clearly to sorry sorry. the first album i really ~waited for, the first album i bought (with multiple versions lmfao rip pocket money). a decade later, i had the same feelings of following all the build up, the teasers. obviously theres a lot More this time round, what w social media and sj returns lmao but just simply the feelings of looking forward to a comeback are the same, with an extra hit of nostalgia, and the thoughts of what ifs, couldve beens ......
actually thinking back to sorry sorry era kinda makes my heart ache. that song and album really pushed them to the forefront of kpop - not my favourite sj song but it is special simply for the success it brought them. but also it was the last time really all of them were together. maybe thats why it is so special. yeah it is overplayed, and it’s not exactly a musical masterpiece, and we mock how it was basically remade into miina and mr simple.
but the memories it holds. of the making of hallyu kings. of ot13.
and ten years later now theyre back as whole as they can be again.
and i hope that, even though the promotions aren’t going smoothly, they can have that feeling of success again, in whatever sense of the word it may be for them. it’s not been easy, these fourteen years. we still believe in u. ur fans are still here. thank you for brightening my days, with your chaos and with your music. thank you for even bringing me into kpop, despite the misgivings i have about the fandom and the industry. maybe ur not perfect, but thank you for being people, idols, a group, for others to look up to. despite all the setbacks and everything that’s been chucked at you, metaphorically, uhh literally, thank you for showing us ur perseverence and loyalty. thank you for giving me the opportunity to be ur fan, whether you are 12, 13, 15, 10, or 9, or less.
thank you for being super junior though maybe not so junior now

Butterfly Soup Asks #16
This time including the squad as DnD characters, Liz facts, Noelle getting her yaoi education, and more
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve only played Dungeons & Dragons once (1) in my life so I’m no expert! I’d consider my thoughts suggestions (like with my takes on the charaters’ MBTI types, which I’m not an expert of either):
Noelle as a Wizard sounds right, since she definitely can’t do anything reliant on physical strength. She would be an asshole and attempt things like building a Clone Army
AKARSHA THE BARD. Rogue sounds too cool for her
Diya: I actually want to say she’s a Ranger because the Wiki on 5th edition says “The Beast Master archetype forges a connection between civilization and beasts, allowing the character to interact with animals in certain ways including gaining an animal companion to control.“ Fighter and Knight also sound plausible though!
Min: Barbarian with high Strength and no Intelligence and Wisdom
Tumblr media
I don’t want to say too much because I want to save things for the sequel, but here’s some stuff:
She actually played against Diya in youth leagues before she transitioned. That’s why she recognizes Diya+specifically approached her to sign the baseball club form while Diya doesn’t recognize her. At the first club meeting Liz tells her “I was at one of your games when you were little” -- This is purposefully ambiguous/misleading (sounds like Liz was just watching) because she passes and doesn’t want to out herself to a bunch of club members she doesn’t know well
After transitioning she quit baseball and switched to softball. It was weird being the one trans girl on a team of cis dudes, and additionally when she was younger she sort of felt like she had to prove she was a girl; she naturally has feminine taste, but she’d overperform it by 25%. It wasn’t until she got close to Chryssa and found out she also liked baseball that she reclaimed her interest in it
She has a nice resting face so strangers tend to ask her for directions

Yesss check the FAQ guys! Fangames are fine as long as you explicitly say it’s a fangame!!
Tumblr media
I’m almost mad I didn’t think of this myself. I’m one of those people who overuses “spoopy”
Tumblr media
All art in the game (including the title screen) can be downloaded here!
Tumblr media
NO!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Noelle. The day the others find out will be the End of her
Tumblr media
Akarsha was reading some yaoi so it came up in conversation, and since Noelle had never heard of it Akarsha gleefully educated her (to Noelle’s horror). Noelle was extremely scandalized that Akarsha kept sending her inappropriate images, and Akarsha was like “i’m doing this out of the kindness of my heart! it’s for ur education!! me: Master Teacher. call me sensei”
Following this Akarsha changed her chat name to YAOI SEME as seen at the beginning of the game
Tumblr media
Diya and Noelle: Never tried it
Min: Has tried it
Akarsha: She constantly makes weed jokes but actually only does it rarely
Tumblr media
Yes, I’m planning on exploring this more in the sequel!
Tumblr media
Diya; Dee-ya. Rhymes with “See ya”
Min-seo: Korean way, but most characters like Diya pronounce it like Min-so, with the “Min” rhyming with “win” (not like “mean”). The “so” is one syllable (not like “see oh”)
Akarsha: uh-KAR-sha
Noelle: No L
Tumblr media
I was planning on making the sprites blink! I’m still a bit sad I didn’t end up doing it
Tumblr media
It’s supposed to be fall 2008 when they’re in high school, but I took a LOT of artistic liberties when it came to the references. For example, Akarsha makes a Durarara reference even though the anime didn’t come out until 2010, and there’s a lot of modern memes that ended up in there too...I couldn’t hold back...
The IGF trailer video is especially modern-day meme-wise -- since it broke the 4th wall, it was like, all bets are off. Don’t think too hard about it!
Tumblr media
I wanted to put a lot of 90s and early 00s hits in the game for the nostalgia factor, like Complicated, Rock Your Body, Dilemma, etc. I think it would’ve made the experience even more surreal for players who are around my age!

At one point Diya finds out what it means on her own. After she finds out, she uses it for the actual meaning :) (added this to the FAQ now)
Tumblr media
I can totally relate to all of them, but I’d say Diya! (added this to the FAQ now)
Tumblr media
that sounds a bit alarming
Tumblr media
(I added this to the FAQ page now, thanks for reminding me)  I’m fine with people shipping whatever!! The only thing I can think of that’d make me uncomfortable is incest and shipping Diya and Min with male characters – other than that, go nuts
Tumblr media
Oh noo im sorry, that must’ve been stressful! For those who don’t know, I chatted about my game for a few minutes last week with MEGA (a USC club I used to be in!). I’ve adapted them here with what I assume what the questions were:
1. Is that your cat on your Skype icon?
yeah it is!! it's burrito
(people think it’s a cute name)
LOL glad you guys approve
2. Was the game made in Renpy? What do you think of Renpy vs. Twine?
yep! it's made in renpy! I actually started out in twine -- twine is impossible if your game is like longer than an hour and is image heavy. the engine started lagging so bad it would take 30 secs to do anything
2. Would you eat a tiny 2 inch man for $100 million?
LOL it's hard..it's a lot of money. I don't think I would
(but you could use that money to save many more lives! utilitarianism)
it's a real dude tho! i'd feel awful for him haha it's hard when you have to physically do it LOL
3. How long did it take for you to make Butterfly Soup?
FOREVER. I thought of it in my junior year over winter break
4. Was it for school (like an assignment)?
nah! just on my own
(people saying that’s impressive)
yeah!! self motivation
5. What’s your favorite part of the game?
hmmmmM I like the "date" with min in the dream. it's so fun, with the dog park
6. Which character do you relate to the most?
diya!! social anxiety queen, so relatable
(people comment on how she runs around when anxious)
i really did that before my sat once, ran 2 miles at the school's track
7. Are you from the San Francisco Bay Area
yeah i'm from the bay! east bay
8. Which year did you first come up with Butterfly Soup?
winter 2014 i think
(people trying to calculate which year was my junior year)
i graduated a year early so junior year was also senior year
9. Are you making a sequel?
yes!! once ihave more time. i have a lot of ideas for stuff that goes after
10. Was this a prequel to Pom Gets Wi-Fi? Or maybe spiritual successor?
this is a prequel. i dunno about spiritual successor tho, they're a bit differnt
11. Any tips on how to balance schoolwork and working on personal projects?
hmm...i honestly sucked at this and could only work on it on breaks lol...if you can try to work it into your school projects, like some bit of it...
other than that i cant think of anything LOL it's hard
12. How did you organize yourself making such a long game? Any tips?
it was SUPER hard to organize, i was really lost until i split it into 4 sections with each character. so if you're planning on making a game this big definitely think about forcing yourself into sections like that
the art was the most confusing to do bc of how many assets there were. i was going to say "have consistent naming conventions" but that's literally impossible LOL it'll always become inconsistent no matter how hard u try
13. What part of the game took the longest (writing? art?)
writing, actually, despite how much i complain about art assets. it's really hard making sure the structure and themes come across correctly. like pacing is so hard. art is like #2 biggest time sink
14. How early in did you write the Akarsha/Min skateboard scene?
that came pretty late haha i put it in at last second
15. Are the characters based on real people?
they're all inspired by combinations of ppl i know! i wouldn't say based on them, tho. for example min is like a combination of 3 friends i have, strategically arranged to play her part in the story
character design is design so u still gotta be deliberate about it
16. Who’s the other cat on the computer? (they’re referring to the cat on my desktop wallpaper)
that one's maru! he's a famous japaense cat. he's super photogenic
(people speculating that he’s the “tube one”)
the tube one? probably. he's famous for going into stuff
17. What was your favorite aspect of working on the game?
definitely getting to put specific Asian-American experiences into it
i was like HAHOH i can do this and no one can stop me! it was really fun getting to do this without any creative direction from like, a studio or anything. so i could just go bonkers. i hate pitching stuff so
18. Any writing advice?
definitely have other people beta your writing as soon as possible! they always catch stuff you missed. also this is like a cheat, make your characters really extreme. like find one aspect of yourself, and turn it up to 11 and make it into a character. that way they'll be relatable and memorable at the same time. i think most people don't make their characters extreme enough so they're all kinda samey
19. (I can’t remember what they asked me here, sorry! They were asking if a specific meme was in the game)
LMAO nah it's not. i did briefly think about it though, i will admit
20. Would you eat a Gusher the size of your hand?
that would be pretty cool. i don't think i could eat it all at once tho...i would try to save it. like half
Tumblr media
You’re welcome, I’m really happy to hear it helped the game feel relatable!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you! I hope you have a good day too!!
Tumblr media
haha I feel like my game is almost propaganda bc so many people wish they had girlfriends after playing it! the agenda...Thank you for waiting for the sequel, it makes me super happy to hear people are looking forward to it!
Tumblr media
You’re welcome!! I’ll do my best!!!
Tumblr media
You’re welcome!!!! :>

READING FROM THE NEW MOON (JULY 20-24TH -- AUGUST 8TH= “LIONSGATE”, & what’s coming in re: our World during this time, & what to prepare for:
• Picture #1): (above)
••“Hilly & Milly” help me with this Tarot reading today!  Hilly the Faerie & Millicent the Mouse Puppet, are over-seeing this next week ahead, since we need our friends, no matter how big or small, to get us through... the  lineup looks very interesting!••
• Picture #2), below: (The Celtic Cross)= by a new deck I got as a lovely gift! It is the “Enchanted Tarot deck” by Amy Zerner & Monte Farber. LOVE the pics in this deck!
Tumblr media
• This reading covers from the beg. of the last New Moon (July 20th-July 24th) - August 8th (aka “Lionsgate”):  I will explain each section, but first here’s the next 4 cards of the future lineup:
• Picture #3), below:  (future lineup)=
Tumblr media
••• BEFORE THE TAROT:  OVERALL HISTORY ABOUT SOME PLANETARY INFO. OCCURRING NOW VS. PAST PANDEMICS IN HISTORY:•••
•  Now, the reason why this time is so important, it’s right after the alignment of many planets that just occurred, (also: at the same time as the Neowise Comet); & the last time these planetary alignments happened, it was similar in nature to what occurred with past pandemics in history, over the Centuries!
••• MOST IMPORTANT planetary similarity is: •••
A) Jupiter & Pluto were in a conjunction pattern with each other= what this means is, Jupiter, & Pluto are side by side very close to each other in the sky for a period of time. There are 3 times that this same pattern have & will continue to occur in this year of 2020, always in the sign of Capricorn:  1) April 4th (4/4); 2) June 30th; & lastly 3) Nov. 12th.
B)  & Saturn, & Pluto also have been in conjunction= They have been traveling in close proximity all year. It began on Jan. 12th that Saturn-Pluto went into conjunction, (when Covid was first introduced into the U.S.) & then in April, (when the first major spike of Covid happened), it just moved into the sign of Capricorn= which represents, Government, structures & the economy, so this alliance of planets, is already revealing its “footprint”.
•• JUPITER-PLUTO CONJUNCTION explained, re: why clashes in our life have occurred & any other times in History, when these 2 planets have been in this pattern in the sky:
• The reason this is important if we compare to what has occurred in history is:  EVERY pandemic that has occurred in History has had this planetary alignment happening at the same time:
• JUPITER represents global connections, & expands everything it touches. In Roman mythology, Jupiter (Zeus to the ancient Greeks) is the god of all gods -- the ruler of the sky & thunder!   VS.
• PLUTO: In mythology, Pluto (or Hades to the Greeks), was the god of the underworld. Astrological lore contends that Pluto rules all things hidden-- from viruses to government conspiracies. This shadowy sign governs death, rebirth, & transformation that “rises form the ashes.”  SO...
• During a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction (meetup), heaven & hell essentially come together... (& these conjunctions occur every 13 years.) What history has shown us during past astrological cycles, when Jupiter & Pluto were side-by-side as a pandemic broke out:
• 1) 1918 Flu Pandemic (The Spanish Flu) : Jupiter & Pluto in the sign of Cancer. The 1st of 2 pandemics caused by the H1N1 influenza virus.
• 2) The 2nd H1N1 influenza virus pandemic: Swine Flu (2009) Jupiter & Pluto were in Capricorn, when it first broke out.
• 3) 1981 HIV Outbreak- Jupiter & Pluto were in the sign of Libra, the sign that rules relationships, & in 1994, when it occurred again, it was in the sign of Scorpio, which is the sign that represents the sexual organs, when the antibody test for HIV first came out, & AIDS was the leading cause of death for adults 25-44 yrs. old.
• 4) Russian Plague of 1771: (the Bubonic Plague) Jupiter & Pluto in Capricorn:  in Moscow, when first reported, officials were first skeptical & dismissive, & national gov’t was slow to respond, but waited to long to act, & in the end, 100,000 lives were lost in Moscow.
• 5) The Black Death of 14th Century Europe: Jupiter & Pluto were in Aries. 50 million people across Europe perished, since this original Bubonic plague was orig. transmitted through rats, & the fleas that bit the rats, gave it to humans, when they in turn bit the humans.
•• NOTE: Re: this pandemic, it was the year of 1346, Jupiter pivoted between Aquarius & Pisces, as it will again in 2021. Aquarius rules large populations, & Pisces is associated w hospitals & illness. The crucial error that caused the Bubonic plague to spread - like most pandemics- was a slow response or recognition time. The faster we address an outbreak, the better we’ll be able to contain it.••
•• IMP. TO NOTE: For context, it takes Pluto ~247 yrs. to return to each astrology sign. Pluto was last in Capricorn when the United States was founded. It returned here in 2008, & will move to the next sign in 2024.  This has been a time that’s brought massive Plutonian transformation & shakeups to Capricorn-ruled areas of Government & economy.
•• SO, the added weight of Saturn also being in conjunct with Pluto at this same time, is like activating a dormant volcano. As Saturn will return to Aquarius from Dec. 17th- March 2023, we’ll have to be careful (as a society) so there’s not more spikes, esp. during this period of time...
•• JUST thought some of this was important to post about in the midst of this Tarot reading, because some of the symbolism in this reading has to do with what’s directly going on in our world right now...  & has some of these similar sounding themes...
•• TERMINOLOGY:  What LIONS GATE means:
•• The Lions Gate is:  “Every year on and around the 8th day of the 8th month of the year (August 8th), there is a cosmic alignment called “the Lions Gateway”. The Lions Gate is a time of increased cosmic energy flowing between the physical and spiritual realms.“ -  & this year it is supposed to be a very strong energy that has a positive effect on us, during the astrological time of Leo (The Lion), which we have just crossed into on the 23rd of June...
• Here’s a website to read more about this, (just for the definition, not what they are then selling in the last paragraphs, ok?)  ... but they give a good lead in re: the history, & how & when this all began:  https://www.ask-angels.com/spiritual-guidance/the-888-lions-gate-activation/
--------------------------------
•• SO, ONTO THE READING: ... I asked the question, what are we to expect: what energies or experiences will we (as a human collective) be experiencing from the time period of the last New Moon (in Cancer) on June 20th, until Aug. 8th, the date of the “Lions Gate”?:
Picture #4, below:  (=Energy of Us All:) = Ace of Hearts (Cups)
Tumblr media
•  Our 1st card: is the card representing the energy of us all (as a human collective), & the strongest energetic pull of the reading= The Ace of Hearts (Cups):
• Usually this placement, speaks of what’s on the mind of the person you’re doing the reading for, & also their energy around them, or representing them in this moment. The Ace of Hearts here, I believe, reps everyone’s opening up to an awareness of what do they really WANT or DESIRE (LOVE to do) in this lifetime that would be their ultimate dream, or make them happy.  =
• Whatever that is for you, the Ace of Hearts, (or Ace of Cups in other decks), speaks of: that we are just leaving the time of Water (Cancer), & the Ace=a period of One (=Ace & for the past mo. at least) w/ us all focusing on our inner desires, or thinking about “What do we want out of life?, now that this pandemic is here, & I am stationary, and not distracted away from my true purpose here on Earth?”... It also can represent a great love coming into (or is in) your life!
----------------------------------
• Picture #5, below: (Present Environment):  9 of Hearts (Cups):
Tumblr media
• Our 2nd Card: is the card representing the Present Environment, around us. Here, the 9 of Hearts (Cups) wanted to come out. Taking the theme of “What do we love” further, the 9 of Hearts (Cups) can also stand for our wish fulfillment. Right now, a lot of focus is being put on this question. If there is also a partner in your life, the focus may also be on being IN the energy of, or the company of what you love to do, or also can be WHO you love.
• I actually feel this period will take us through the Summer, ( a period of 9 wks), & into the beg. of Sept. Also, the Ace of Hearts (or Cups) stands for the season of Summer. So, the focus feels like it’s going to be on this throughout the Summer, into Sept.
-------------------------
• Picture #6, below:  (Crossing Immed. Our Path):  Queen of Pentacles=
Tumblr media
• Our 3rd Card: is the card representing the energy that will be Immed. Crossing our Path:  Here, the Queen of Pentacles, came out. First of all, it’s important when you are using a deck you have just gotten (a deck you have not used before, & don’t know the symbolism, let’s say), you are not familiar with the way the cards are drawn for each card. ie) In this deck, it almost feels like there’s a “Wheel of Fortune” (Higher Life lesson card) on her head, as part of her hat= which is interesting...  since the “Wheel” usually refers to the Wheel of Life, & where we all are at on it... here, it seems we’re continuing to question this...
• First of all, the Pentacles as a suit, rep. the time of Earth, and the next time that starts a time of Earth, is in the astrological time of Virgo (Aug. 23rd - Sept 22nd).  So, this person, place or thing, coming across our paths, feels like it will occur during this time.  In this situation, since I asked for the human collective my orig. question, I feel this reps Earth (Mother Earth). But just to see, I clarified this with another card... (see below):
-----------------------------
• Picture #7, below:  (Crossing Immed. Our Path, Clarified):  Strength (Higher Life lesson) card=
Tumblr media
• Our 3rd Card: is the card representing the energy that will be Immed. Crossing our Path, & the Clarified card=Strength card:  The Strength card is one of the cards that reps the astrological sign of Leo (July 23rd - Aug. 22nd) in the deck. Besides being a marker confirming what time we’re speaking about, Strength is actually a Higher Life lesson card that asks us to “tame” the beast=the Lion, which reps. our lower instinctual nature vs. staying true to our Higher selves, & higher purposes, during this time. We’re also asked to overcome any lower behavior, or to strive to work on these challenges we all have, esp. during these times of major change happening around us.
---------------------
• Picture #8, (below):
• Here, the beginning 3 cards (so far) always lay in this formation, in a Celtic Cross:
Tumblr media
------------------------
• Picture #9, see below:  (Our Goals):  The Tower (Higher Life lesson card):
Tumblr media
• Our 4th Card: is the card representing the energy of Our Goals (the card at the top of the Celtic Cross)= what we are needing to do, or what we want to do:  Here, to get the Tower card, in this position, feels like what we all are wanting to do= to keep pushing through this incredibly unexpected, & hard time of “not-knowingness” of tumultuous change, no matter what. The time of The Tower (which is a Higher Life lesson) shows us things that are unexpected, & at times situations where we are tested. The key message is: to hang in there, and continue moving through this time of grey, & the unknown. - We will get through it, even though it doesn’t look like that at ALL right now...
-------------------------
• Picture #10, below:  (Difficulties in the Past):  7 wands=
Tumblr media
• Our 5th Card: is the card representing the energy of Difficulties in the Past (the card underneath the Celtic Cross)= what energy or who may have affected you along your way (many yrs. ago in the past)=
• NOTE: By the time the card that lands here hits this placement, it usually is showing us how far we have come w the issue at hand vs. where we were at in comparison a very long time ago. ie) In this instance, because this is a human collective reading & not a personal reading, I feel this period of 7 correlates to when this pandemic orig. came into our lives= 7 months ago...
• This card usually reps being defensive /possibly fighting off, or fighting for a person, thing or situation even. Here, it shows a person, (Us as a people) taking a stand for what we believe in, during these tough times, & standing up against obstacles, &/or challenges (the 7 of wands are sticking up at him). = these can be w/ regards to many things: each wand is a separate issue: ie) Keeping healthy during Covid; Political protests supporting Black Lives Matter; Dealing w a Gov’t that didn’t & isn’t helping the pandemic by denying its’ existence; Loss of our jobs; etc.
• A personal visual I found interesting that’s in the drawing of this card, in this particular deck (my opinion)= He is a warrior that is fighting through it all, & even has a shield to protect himself with= showing he’s def. ready for the fight ahead! This is showing hope for continuing to move forward.
----------------------------------
• Picture #11, below:  (Last of the Present):  Queen of Hearts (Cups)=
Tumblr media
• Our 6th Card: is the card representing the Last of the Present / = (the card on the Left of the Celtic Cross)= What Just Occurred rt. before the reading:  Here, this Queen reps the time of Water (just like the Ace & 9 of Hearts/Cups, because she is of the Cups suit); & she correlates to the recent past, & to the time of Cancer. (which just ended.)
• This feels like for many people it became very clear, that we all may have to think differently about what else (other abilities we may have), or we can do to make a living; but the key thing was to think of something we ENJOY/LOVE also doing! (not just doing anything...)
• So, my personal belief is it started this way, thinking with regards to work, & this forced us to look at what was/is it that makes us happy? If you already ARE living your dream, this is fabulous!- but then you were being asked “How can you continue to do what you do, make a living still, & have an impact on others, during this challenging time?” =
•=This is what the Queen of Hearts (Cups) asks of us...  Because it’s asking questions of the human collective & of Earth, we as a human collective, are showing up as a Queen here, with these concerns/thoughts. The gender doesn’t matter here, being the female (Queen vs. this being a King) since it really isn’t about gender per se in Tarot, it’s more the energy behind the feeling. Because it’s a bit more receptive energy,  it’s showing up as a female, & as this Queen.
------------------------------------
• Picture #12, below:  (First of the Future):  7 Pents=
Tumblr media
• Our 7th Card: is the card representing the First of the Future = (the card on the Right of the Celtic Cross)= What Will Occur rt. after the reading:
Here, the 7 of Pents, I feel, reps. a period of 7 days, (since it’s an immediate period of time), & for the week ahead. The 7 of Pents asks us to pause and look back at the last period of time we are coming from, & if we have made progress. It’s a time of self-assessment, if you will. It also is a time to re-think before moving forward. The number 7 is also a reflective, going-within time, & it will set us up for the beginning of August. (literally ~Aug. 1st).
---------------------------------
• Picture #13, below:  (Future Environment):  The Sun (Higher Life lesson card)=
Tumblr media
• Our 8th Card: is the card representing the Future Environment=
• Here, this is the 2nd card in the Tarot deck that reps the astrological sign of Leo- (July 23rd - Aug. 22nd) So, it is re-stating, that this future environment time period will be occurring RIGHT as it turns into August 2020.
• Also, The Sun (as a Higher Life lesson) is one that stands for several things:
• 1) Things that may have been hidden, will now come into light (or are exposed); • 2) partnerships of all kinds become more significant (business & in the area of love), • 3) It also finds you more clear & in control, & able to direct your mental energy. You’re able to develop great sensitivity towards all form of life & expand your awareness.
••NOTE: With regards to world issues: I feel there def. will be some significant reveals or information that is finally exposed (re: our Gov’t right now) that will be happening esp. during this time. ••
----------------------------------------
• Picture #14, below:  (Influences from the Outside):  The World (#21) (Higher Life lesson)=
Tumblr media
• Our 9th Card: is the card representing the Influences from the Outside=
• Here, it’s interesting the imagery in this deck!! She almost looks like she’s running FROM the world, or holding it back!.. OK, so on an instantaneous level, I am feeling like mostly this card has to deal w the real-life issue of being in a World health crisis, obviously.
• I also find it interesting that the building in the background, looks like our monuments in Washington, that stand for our Liberty & Justice! (the Courthouse too...)
• But “The World” is also a Higher Life lesson card & reps. the ending of one cycle, to make way for a new one. Even though this is the imagery on this particular deck, The World card usually speaks about everything is moving according to an intended arrangement. “Your destiny unfolds at its proper pace as you constantly move towards the goals of your lifetime.”
• Also, w this slow & steady movement, the cosmos gives us time in which to actualize our  destinies.
--------------------------
•• BECAUSE THIS WAS BRINGING IN WORLD ISSUES (showing this “World” card specifically), I clarified this placement with 3 cards, to hear more of the story:
• Picture #15, below:  (Influences form the Outside Clarified):  1) Two of Swords;  2) 5 of Swords; 3) Judgement (Higher Life lesson)=
Tumblr media
• Let’s take each one separately: 1) Two of Swords= If you look at the image on this card, the first thing that hit me was, the upside down “V” shape and 2 pillars (that rep the Swords on this particular drawing of this card), made me think of NASA’s symbol, & I looked up when they were to launch their mission to Mars. Also, the feather that is being held by the woman in the middle of the picture, looks like a fish, & I looked up the timeline of when they are to land on Mars, & it correlated to the EXACT date that Pisces begins, Feb. 18- Feb. 19th, 2021!
• So why is this important you ask?= Because w/ regards to this card, we are clarifying what Outer Influences w/ the World are we going to be dealing w/ in the future... (Even though I asked only for the 1-2 weeks ahead, sometimes Tarot gives you larger-than-life messages, here, about the human collective, & you have to be open to it...)
• So, first, in my opinion from this, it feels like the NASA Mars mission will reveal info. that will affect our World here on Earth, & I kind of feel, we may also find out hidden info. or plans re: the current Gov’t’s plans for possible space warfare.  I think this is only related to our present Gov’t & hopefully, if this is exposed as a truth during this time, hopefully a new person will be in the White House, & we can avoid anything as a country that would’ve been potentially dangerous.
--------------------------
•• CONT’D:
•• Down to the nuts & bolts:  Because all Higher Life lesson cards don’t normally have a time period attached to them, when you see more than 1 of them in a reading, it’s understood they all are happening usually at the same time.
• So, in between these 2 Higher Life lesson cards: The World (#21), & Judgement (#20)= there is a message that we as a human collective, are being judged, re: how we handle this crisis, how we treat each other as people during this time, etc.-  & the a) 2 of Swords has to do w/ a decision of sorts that will be made, or 2 sides are being seen, that may be in conflict- this feels like our Gov’t vs. the protests..  I feel this will correlate to 2 months from now= Beg. of October.
 ---------------------------
• b) The 2 of swords clarifying the World, & then the 5 of swords we clarified further= 5 swords= deals with conflicts; where the actual meaning involves a battle where there are definite aggressors, who do not listen to any possibilities, & discord exists. ie) Again, a threatened Gov’t (President) will not listen to reason, & in doing so, jeopardizes the whole health & safety of the United States.  His behavior seems like ti will continue.
---------------------------
•• c) NOTE:  Because the 2 of swords is clarifying a Higher Life lesson card (”The World”), & the message is the strongest towards the next card chronologically after “The World” card, this feels like the timeline the cards are trying to say to focus on first. (2 months after Leo/ August)..
---------------------------
• 2) Five of Swords=
• If you check out the 5 swords in this deck, it almost looks like each sword is a lightening rod. I feel around this timeline, we will be having issues with our weather, & major storms from tornadoes, (where because of instabilities caused by natural disasters, it is seeming like we may have another Covid spike due to major weather changes.
•• a)  So, the 5 wks (represented in the 5 swords card) after the 2 months= feels like this is the full timeline expressed here= these conflicts will fully take us to the time period of beg. to mid-  November.  As a side-note, it feels like conflicts also w the election will be taking place at the same time.. (& another reason for a spike re: our health crisis.)
----------------------------
• 3) Judgement (#20) -Higher Life lesson card=
• If you look at this card, Archangel Michael here is taking on the battle, & hopefully will help the people (=the hand in this image): Usually, in other decks it is Archangel Gabriel that is blowing a wake-up horn, with a Red Cross symbol on a flag, saying we will be awakened from the state of affairs, & receive help. Here, regardless of which Archangel the artist meant for us to see, this Angel is helping the people in the water to have a spiritual awakening too.
• a) Because all of these cards are showing up, it feels like it is referring to more battles that will be coming/ happening in our society as we know it, to the point that Judgement, (or the Archangels Michael & Gabriel) metaphorically are called in, to correct the situation back to balance.
•• NOTE: Everything represented by Judgement, spoken about here, definitely needs to be replaced by harmony & teamwork in the future.
------------------------------------
• Picture #16, below:  (Hopes & Fears) Princess of Swords (Page of Swords)=
Tumblr media
• Our 10th Card: is the card representing our Hopes & Fears=
• Here, the Princess of Swords (Page of Swords in other decks), reps. a time of researching & checking facts on information being put out there; also this reps. watching the behavior of another person in a calculated manner.
•• (ie) Because Swords rep. Air, & the next Air sign coming up is Libra (Sept. 23rd - Oct. 23rd), this feels like we, as a country, and a people, may start to challenge the Gov’t further starting during this timeline, into the next season. (Fall into Winter.)
-------------------------------------
• Picture #17, below:  (The Outcome card) The Eight of Pents=
Tumblr media
• Our 11th Card: is the card representing The Outcome=
• Here, the Outcome card is the 8 of Pents: This as an Outcome card speaks of two different layers or timelines. Originally, I asked what was coming in (situations, in our world, our health, livelihood, etc.) from June 20th - August 8th, so on One Level, this card reps 1 week after the Leo card (7 of Pents, turns into the 8 of Pents), & this = August 8th.
• In the immediate future of this first timeline, I feel we will continue to focus on what we as a people can do to work together, create new work opportunities, and help each other with common goals, & causes that we’re all interested in.
• On the Second Level, if we follow the Higher Life lesson timeline, after the World & Judgement cards, it looks like this period of 8 is another 8 weeks, on top of the last date we stated, mid- November. So, 2 months after that, will take us to January, & my sense from this card, I am hoping from the feel of what this card usually stands for, we will have a different person in the White House.
• It may take some effort to move him out of there, but this card is ALL ABOUT placing other people alongside of yourself and working towards a common goal, & honestly, that’s not what’s going on w/ the person running our Gov’t right now... so I am hoping my prediction here is correct!
--------------------------------
NOTE: I clarified the Outcome Card, and got some more detailed info. I also Clarified the card underneath the deck, (usually known as the Overall Energy of the reading), but I will be revealing those extra cards in the next post!
• Know this was Long, but I so appreciate you checking it all out if this is something either you are interested in learning or just to see what may be occurring in the near future, & why!!
•• I am very grateful for you stopping by!!••  :-)!!!

Tattoos, piercings, and bands 😊
Ok so tumblr never told me this ask was in my inbox and I just totally missed it???
I’M SO SORRY I NEVER ANSWERED THIS I LITERALLY JUST SAW IT!!
Anyway. I believe this is in reference to the aesthetic asks post I reblogged a bit ago. ^-^
how do you feel about tattoos and piercings? explain.
I love tattoos and piercings! I have two tattoos (left arm and the back of my neck) and I def want more. My personal tattoo rule is 3 years of wanting the tattoo and only getting esteemed artists to do them. If its going to be on my body forever, I need to know that I want it and I want it to look like a piece of art. So, it’s worth the higher price. I like to have them designed in a way that accentuates/decorates my body rather than just “being there”, you know?Tattoos on others are badass and tattoos on the person I have feelings for are H O T (but not mandatory ^-^. David has one and is planning on a forearm tattoo that Im so psyched about)
I’m also really fond of piercings. I had my rook pierced for a few years until it got infected and closed up. It was so cool man, I miss it. ;-;
I probably won’t ever get piercings besides on my ear though. I have a weird fear of them getting ripped out or getting caught on something. On others though, big fan! I think they’re awesome.
Of course both with tattoos and piercings, I find moderation to be the most attractive, but thats just my personal preference.
do you wear a lot of makeup? why/why not?Umm, I’m not sure tbh. Lol I guess medium makeup? My daily look is just concealer, eyebrows, winged liner, and mascara. Sometimes I’ll do some liquid lipstick or some strobing but that’s not all the time. I’m totally not afraid to go natural, though. (my snapchat followers are well acquainted with me without makeup lol). I like my face, I just prefer it with dark winged liner ^-^
My bare minimum no matter what is shaping my eyebrows. (Because I’m a natural blonde, I look crazy if I don’t do my brows xD)When I’m filming, I go full face because my super bright ring light completely washes me out. Primer, foundation, concealer, contour/highlight, blush. talk about a song/band/lyric that has affected your life in some way.
Ok so at first, I was like…idk? Then I thought about it and now I’ve written too much about like 5 songs…so…yeah…sorry about my gushing. I got carried away. ^-^
Could have been me - the strutsThis entire song is the anthem of why I make the life choices I make. I could easily be in a 9-5 job, married to my high school boyfriend, with a minivan and a white fence, but even since I was a kid, the idea of wasting my life in a cube and diving my kids to soccer practice made me want to vomit. My life is a mess, I don’t have a great living situation, and I’m struggling financially, but I’m living my life, being my best self, and I’m pursuing a dream.
Fools who dream - La La LandOk, I can’t listen to this song without crying. I just can’t. The whole thing from start to finish paints the emotional roller coaster I’ve been on since I moved to new york city in 2008 with a dream. Yeah, the dream has changed since then, but now I know. I know what I’m meant to do, who I’m meant to be, and it means that I struggle and chase a dream that sometimes feels impossible. Because of my crazy dream, I’ve had experiences and have met people I never would have had I stayed in Georgia suburbia. So particularly “Smiling through it, she said she’d do it again.” breaks me.
When - DodieI know dodie reflects on the past a lot, but I have the opposite problem. I’m never in the moment because I’m always dreaming and longing for a future where I’m happy. I always feel like I’m chasing happiness that’s so close to my grasp that my fingers brush it, only to have it pulled away again. So when I heard the lyric “It’ll be over and I’ll still be asking when.” I legit cried. I’m longing for a “one day” happiness that I don’t have while overlooking beautiful moments right in front of me that are passing me by.
Unforgettable - Nat King ColeNot the song I danced to at my wedding (though that one also has many feels that I won’t get into. It’s sailboats by brooke fraser btw) but it is the one danced to in the kitchen; when my life was a bit more peaceful. Many of my favorite moments of my marriage with David consist of barefoot slow dancing in the kitchen of our old apartment with David quietly singing this song in my ear.
“Unforgettable in every way…And forever more, that’s how you’ll stayThat’s why, darling, it’s incredibleThat someone so unforgettableThinks that I am unforgettable too”
You have me - GungorThis is a simple song, but it always pulls me back. It’s simply appreciating the idea that if there is a God, He’s there loving and crying with me even when I feel He’s not. The chorus is simply a declaration, no matter what: “You have my heart completely.” Which singing this to anyone, is an incredibly sweet idea. I like the intimacy of it as compared to literally every other Jesus bop I have the misfortune of suffering though. One time though, I was singing along and I don’t know…I felt an overwhelming notion that God was singing it back. “You have my heart completely” and I just broke down. Now whenever I sing it, it’s like we’re singing it together and I’ve never felt so whole in my life. David has a lot to do with helping me through my hard times, but God is number 1 every single time.

I don’t need anon to pick at your brain! I’ve been into comics on and off for ten years but I still know and understand frighteningly little about the medium, and I want to change that. Between military and other life stuff, I’ve done less reading and research into comics than I’d like. For example, I’ve seen you say in another post that the Marvel wiki volume numbering for Iron Man is EXTREMELY WRONG (to quote you 🤣). And it just so happens that I recently made a spreadsheet of all the comics I own, which I referenced the wiki to help me make. But now I’m worried I got some stuff on my sheet wrong. 😭
As long as the scheme you use makes sense to you, that's the important thing. But I just checked, and the wiki is still disastrously wrong about mid-2000s Iron Man. They used to be right! And then a couple of years ago, they got it wrong, and it is still wrong.
Big nerdy list under the Read More.
I haven't double-checked all the volume years, but this is the way I refer to them:
Tales of Suspense vol 1 (1959), #39-99. ToS itself started in 1959, which is why it has that year, but Tony doesn't appear until #39. He starts splitting the book with Steve at #58, and after #99 we get separate Cap and IM books. Cap keeps the numbering; IM renumbers and we have...
Iron Man vol 1 (1968), #1-332. Like volume 1 of most of the rest of Marvel's classic titles, this goes all the way until the mid-90s. Whether or not the cover says "Iron Man" or "The Invincible Iron Man," it's all just called Iron Man.
Iron Man vol 2 (1996), #1-13. Shh. We do not speak of this.
Iron Man vol 3 (1998), #1-89. Definitely the best Iron Man run. Starting with #41, the book is dual-numbered with legacy numbers, like many Marvel comics of this time. That means #41 is also listed as #386, and so on for the rest of the run. Basically that means that if they hadn't renumbered anything at all this would be the 386th issue. Marvel often likes to return to legacy numbers when they have a big milestone issue (like #500 or #600) coming up.
Iron Man vol 4 (2005), #1-35. This is the run that was going on through the entire Civil War and post-CW era. At Iron Man #15, the book changes names to Iron Man: Director of SHIELD and keeps the numbering going; some people would class Director of SHIELD as a separate run based on this, but, let's be real, you're gonna sort this with the rest of v4 here. At #33 the book actually changes names to War Machine: Weapon of SHIELD but weirdly no one seems to be arguing that that one should be a separate book.
Invincible Iron Man vol 1 (2008), #1-33, #500-527. This is Fraction's run, and Marvel has now decided to start treating "Invincible" as part of the actual title for some reason, so this is a brand new volume 1 of Invincible Iron Man. Halfway through it renumbers for the milestone #500 issue even though they would like me to believe it has a different name from the comic it's getting renumbered to match.
Iron Man vol 5 (2013), #1-28. Now we're back to "Iron Man" and this is Gillen's run.
Superior Iron Man vol 1 (2015,) #1-9. Tony is a bad, bad man.
Invincible Iron Man vol 2 (2015), #1-14. This is the beginning of Bendis' IM run, once again getting "Invincible" in the title, so by my count we're at volume 2 of Invincible.
International Iron Man vol 1 (2016), #1-7. This is a series that ran at the same time as Bendis' IIM v2, and is about Tony's quest for his biological parents.
Infamous Iron Man vol 1 (2016), #1-12. Okay, so at the end of Civil War II, Tony ends up in a coma and this run is actually about Doctor Doom who is now Iron Man, more or less.
Invincible Iron Man vol 3 (2017), #1-11, #593-600. This was running at approximately the same time as Infamous and is now about Riri Williams who is ALSO now Iron Man, more or less. Halfway through it renumbers with legacy numbering which is a thing a lot of Marvel books were doing at that time, conveniently just in time to reach that milestone #600. Which is when Tony comes back to life.
Tony Stark: Iron Man vol 1 (2019), #1-19. This is Slott's run. Yeah, sure, give it a completely different name. That's cool. I don't need things to be simple or anything.
Iron Man 2020 (2020), #1-6. This is the miniseries/event that closes out Slott's IM run. It's got some tie-ins.
Iron Man vol 6 (2020-present), ongoing. Cantwell's current run. #15 is out this week, as I write this. We are finally back to a run that is just called Iron Man, which we last got, uh, eight volumes ago? Geez. I would like to point out that this run is Iron Man (2020) and the previous run was Iron Man 2020 (2020). Comics are so accessible and easy to understand.
Okay, so that seems like it basically makes sense, right? As much as comics ever make sense?
Great! But that's not what the Marvel Wiki currently does.
This is what we get, starting with volume 4, where the weirdness starts:
Iron Man vol 4 (2005), #1-16. You might think that the wiki has decided to split out vol 4 and Director of SHIELD into separate runs. That would make sense. That's not what this is. #16 is actually two issues into DoS. It's in the middle of a story arc. It doesn't change creative teams or anything. There is no conceivable reason to end it here. Now you might think, okay, that's a small error, but surely the next run is DoS? *laughs bitterly* No.
Invincible Iron Man vol 1 (2007), #17-28. This is actually most of the Director of SHIELD run. It says "Iron Man: Director of SHIELD" right on the cover. The Marvel Wiki has decided that doesn't count, I guess. You can buy a big trade paperback of the entire Director of SHIELD run. It's called Iron Man: Director of SHIELD. I guess that doesn't mean anything to anyone.
Iron Man: Director of SHIELD vol 1 (2008), #29-35. Congratulations, Marvel Wiki! You have correctly identified 7 out of 35 issues of this run! That's a failing grade!
Invincible Iron Man vol 2 (2008), #1-33. This is the first half of Fraction's run, before the renumbering at #500. We are now up to IIM vol 2 because the Wiki decided that the middle of DoS was a great thing to call IIM vol 1. You might wonder where the rest of this run is getting numbered. You're going to be sorry you asked.
Invincible Iron Man vol 1 (2011), #500-527. Look, we've... found volume 1 again? We're numbering volumes in reverse? Oh God. I mean, I know this is what legacy numbering means, but it's kind of a mess.
IM v5 (Gillen) and Superior are both unaffected by this.
Invincible Iron Man vol 3 (2015), #1-14. Bendis starts here. I had this down as IIM vol 2 but that's not how the wiki sees it.
International and Infamous are not affected.
Invincible Iron Man vol 4 (2017), #1-11. This is the first half of Bendis' Riri run, also one number higher than I had it. Then it renumbers to legacy, and I bet you know what's coming.
Invincible Iron Man vol 1 (2017), #593-600. Yep. I love legacy numbers.
Everything after this is fine in terms of numbering.
So, yeah, legacy numbering makes it a little weird, but legacy numbers are like that. When I talk about them I usually wedge them in with the Invincible runs they're part of. The thing that really throws it off is the part where Director of SHIELD is listed under three different runs because that's just... wrong. And throws off a lot of the numbers after it.

The Reddit MarvelStudios AMA (Ask Me Anything) with Clark Gregg, May 16, 2017 (click here to read all the questions)
A: (out of sequence, so no question): Well, this week I'm really missing Bill Paxton and Powers Boothe because we lost them and they were both such excellent guys.
A: Missed a few questions there. I'll try to answer some. I love the MCU and love watching the movies and I miss my friends in those casts. That said, I am really proud of where we've gone with Agents of SHIELD and I love this bunch of actors and writers (and crew) as much as any I've ever worked with.
Q What upcoming MCU property are you looking forward to the most? Tahiti is a magical place! A: Anything with Adam Warlock and that may have just been teased in GOTG2
Q Do you have any stories and/or favourite memories of working with the late Bill Paxton? Thanks! A: So many. Just the big grin he'd show up with every day and say, "Bud-dy..." Just a great guy and a wonderful actor/filmmaker with more stories than anyone I've ever met.
Q: What is your favourite MCU movie? A: Pretty damn psyched for Captain Marvel especially with the amazing Brie Larson
Q: Hi! Thank you so much for being SO awesome. In Avengers, when Coulson has been stabbed by Loki and gets to shoot him with the massive gun, he says "oh, that's what that does". What do you wish that gun had done? A: Gone off on its own a minute earlier.
Q: Hi! Thanks for doing this. What's your favorite hand? And if you could have any new hand for your character, what could it do? Thank you! A: The SHIELD attachment does not suck
Q: Hi Clark! Thanks for doing this AMA and everything you've done for the MCU. Love your portrayal of A.C. (Daisy needs to bring that back imo). Have you had any input or influence on the development of Coulson? A: I have some input but most of the great stuff on our show is straight from the writers.   Dream storyline involves saving the Defenders and the Avengers and the Guardians and the Royal Family and everyone in Legion when they get themselves in trouble with Thanos. In a musical episode by Lin Manuel Miranda. (Hamilton)
Q: u/70astralaxe wanted to ask you those question but he coudn't so I'll Phil in [sorry for the pun...]    Favourite Star Wars movie.    Favourite MCU movie.    Whether he had any "holy shit" moments during script-read/when filming a scene.    What he wants for the future of MCU/SHIELD.    If he is planning on doing non-MCU stuff anytime in the near future.    Favourite Ice-Cream Flavour.    Favourite Holiday Destination. A: I'll pick 2. Empire and that coconut something from Ben and jerry's
Q: Clark, it was great seeing you at Denver Comic Con last year. I was the one who told you I loved Choke as well as the intro you wrote for Avengers: Endless Wartime. My question though, do you have any projects coming up that you are writing/directing? Choke was 2008, and Trust me was 2013, so I was hoping we were due for something else soon. Thanks, love your work. A: Writing a film and a sci-fi pilot. Hope to make something next hiatus.
Q: When Joss called you up about Much Ado About Nothing, what was your reaction? Did you get any say in your role? Have you done any other Shakespeare? Thanks for doing this AMA today! A: I was terrified when Joss called, but excited because I had just had a dream I was doing some Shakespeare and it felt ordained. And I love Joss.
Q: Have you watched GOTG Vol. 2 yet? A: Yes. Laughed my ass off.
Q: Hello, What's your favourite MCU movie? Also, what does RDJ smell like? A: I'm a big fan of the Avengers and anything with Cap. Or Stark. Or Thor or the Guardians. Or Strange. Let's face it, I'm a Marvel slut. Robert smells like warm beaches and babies laughing and a freshly washed thong.
Q: What kind of changes in perspective on your character did you work on to bring the 3 different versions of Coulson to life this season? We've had Agent Coulson, Robo Coulson, and Mr. Coulson. What was the most fun about doing that? Also, minor question, do you happen to know what brand / model of glasses you were rocking in the Framework? (I tweeted @amandalynnriley, but alas no response). A: It was fun to have new takes on Phil. Amazing work by the writers. Especially geeking out teacher Phil with his soap. The glasses are called Barton Pereira (sp)
Q: What would like to do for a living if you weren't an actor, besides dominating in lip sync battles? A: Music something. probably not very well. But I loved being in a band. A lot.
Q: Hi Clark! Awesome for you to do this before the big season finale. How do you think your character has changed between now and the beginning of Iron Man 1? In other words, do you think your acting of Phil Coulson has changed that much in 9 years? A: Ah, jeez, I don't know. The character has been through a lot and gotten older, so maybe he's less innocent and a little darker, but I probably am too. I don't know about the acting. I try to forget that's what it is.
Q: Do you read your fanmail? If so, what's something cool a fan has sent you? A: I do. I get amazing stuff and try to answer it all. I've been sent crocheted blankets and lola pillows and maybe some underwear.
Q: Thank you for putting your all into Coulson. He's my favourite character in the entire Marvel universe. As for my question, how much of Clark has gone into the role? Specificially the frequent Star Wars references... is that your input or does it come purely from the writers? A: The writers and I love Star Wars and couldn't imagine Coulson wouldn't as well. There's a bunch of me and then some stiff that's verrrrry different from me.
Q: More serious question: One of the things I love about AoS is how men and women fight each other as equals. But I've wondered if that took the male actors a little getting used to, going all out punching and kicking female actors. Did you find that awkward at first? A: Definitely. Really did not like punching May or Daisy even though neither was a real punch.
Q: Hey Clark! Huge fan of your work in the MCU. My question. Did you know that when you died in the Avengers that you would be brought back for SHIELD? Thanks! A: I did not. Neither did they. #CoulsonLives gave them the idea. So thanks.
Q: What's the weirdest thing a fan ever asked you to do? A: Sign a boob. But it was a big boob so I wrote my full name and then Agent Coulson.
Q: With the amount of time Coulson has been spending in the field in AOS, it has become more and more unlikely that the Avengers wouldn't know that Phil is still alive. Do you personally think any of them know? A: I really wish I had a good answer for that, but I don't. Some day.
Q: Yo Clark! I'm sure you're gonna get a bunch of marvel questions and that's awesome. But I know you're a basketball fan so this is my first question. Who ya got winning the finals? And secondly: Any advice for someone who's dream is to work within marvel either on the tv side or movie side? A: Warriors look soooo good. To work for Marvel it helps to love comics and marvel and then just try to be really good at what you want to do there.
Q: Hey Clark! Read any good books lately? A: Yes. The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Mirukami
Q: What was it like meeting Melissa Benoist for the dubsmash battle? And have you met any of the other CW heroes? A: I think she's amazing. Loved her in Whiplash. And the fact that she took part in that for charity made me love her even more.
Q: I've been marvel fan since my early childhood, having been born without half of my right hand, my parents and superheroes have always been the biggest source of inspiration. Even in my wildest dreams, i couldnt have predicted these last 10 years, what MCU has achieved and how popular these stories would become all around the world, in that way im living my childhood dream- to see it all done well on the silver screen. What is even crazier- I wouldnt have predicted that the Son of Coul, a shield agent from phase one movies, would start his own show- his own team. Over the years, Aos became , in my humble opinion, the best that superhero tv shows can offer right now, and most recently, even a better source of fun than some of the MCU movies. Past week, i have been buzzing, that we re getting another season. Mostly, i want to say THANK YOU, to everyone who helps to make this show what it is, a source of inspiration and fun to look forward to almost every week. Thank you Mr. Gregg, for breathing life into this awesome character, and also for motivating me in my own studies, and career. I just wanted to express my gratitude, and ask, recently, the Ghost Rider, LMD and Framework arcs have cemented the greatness of this show. When you got first approached to make a shield show, did you think it would end up as such a compelling characters, stories, effects and going for 5 seasons on a small screen? Did you have any doubts? Was there ever a moment when you got a script/shot a scene, where u said to yourself : "Wow, this is amazing" ? Thank you, wish you and the whole cast/crew all the best in making another successful season. A big fan, all they way from Slovakia A: This made my day. Thank you.
Q: What did you think of Iron Fist on Netflix? Do you think it deserves the criticism? What would you have done different if you were the showrunner? A: I love Iron Fist. Both seasons. (then...another reply) Oops. I meant Daredevil. Didn't sleep too well.
Q: Do you remember your time on The Shield well? Great performance. Any fun stories from the set? A: My friend David Mamet directed and the character was so uhinged I felt wrong afterwards. Also, Billy Gierhart who has directed the most eps of AoS was the cameraman on that ep.
Q: As a big fan of What Lies Beneath and Choke, can we expect to see you work behind the camera on Agents of SHIELD any time soon? A: I may direct an episode in season 5. if I don't pass out from exhaustion just thinking about it.
Q: Jed Whedon recently made his directing debut in SHIELD's episode Self Control, which is probably my favorite episode of the show now. What was it like having him direct? Do you think we can look forward to more episodes helmed by him? Great job this season by the way! Coulson's speech a few episodes ago rocked, Captain America would be proud A: jed was amazing and that may be my favorite too. He better direct some more or we'll drag him down to set and make him.
Q: Hey Clark! Thanks for coming by! In about a year we'll be coming up on Iron Man's 10th Anniversary, which means you'll have been playing Coulson for 10 years. How does that feel? And, if you could have Coulson appear in any Marvel-related property, what would it be? A: Wow. Ten years. I feel very lucky. I could have been stuck that long playing a character I didn't love in a world I didn't care about. #Grateful
Q: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has been renewed for a fifth season, but does not appear on ABC's Fall schedule. Obviously, it will start later, but we've been getting mixed signals. Do you know if Season 5 will be a full, 22 episode season or has it been shortened? A: Yes. Full season after the 8 eps of The Inhumans. Then we do our whole run. Could be cool that way.
Q: Can you tell us anything about today's AoS finale? A: Coulson will change.
Q: This is also a question from my girlfriend, who is at work and can't ask herself: Do you think Phil and May will have a happy ending? A: I won't touch that one.
Q: How would coulson react to meeting the defenders? A: He would geek out. But who knows, maybe they would too.
Q: Two questions: first, I'm currently binge watching the West Wing and I have to ask what it was like working with dialog written by Aaron Sorkin?  Second, are we ever going to see your wife, Jennifer Grey, on AoS? A: Aaron's dialogue is like no one else's. I did Sports Night, TWW and A Few Good Men on Broadway. So I'm lucky. He did a lot to put me on the map.
Q; Hi Clark! Thank you for doing this! I can’t wait for tonight’s finale. Can you take us through what it was like auditioning and successfully getting the role of Coulson? Did you ever imagine that the role would develop and expand like it has over time? A: Never auditioned. Got an offer to play a part that was two scenes in IM. Then they added more and more scenes. Cut to Phil nine years later about to walk into the season 4 finale where he will finally (REDACTED)
Q: Clark, you all have been doing such a great job over the last few years. Why do you think Agents of SHIELD has resonated with so many fans around the world? A: Because thanks to the cast, crew, the writers and Marvel the show keeps getting better all the time. That's very rare.
Last Words From Clark: Thanks so much of the great questions. Sorry I couldn't answer more of them. Acting in an independent film today so I have to run. Join me on the twitter for the S.4 finale tonight. Love you all.

murdered out
BM had sent me a message, “theyve got your kicks nigga”, next message was picture of my kicks, circled in a light turquoise, almost Zizzou blue. The kicks themselves were instapump furys, murdered out black but not really. The outer shell of the shoe was black but because of the material, it had a sheen to it that made it almost purple. The lower side of the shoe had diagonal blue and white stripes, which were totally missable unless you picked up and turned the shoe over. The robotic foot or insectoid hooves, i hadn’t decided on a reference yet, were totally black and somewhat processed to create a granular effect. It was to say, a conceptual shoe. One I had spent convincing myself for a week now that I wanted and when discussions turned to what shoes we wanted, haughtily telling the dudes that that was my be all and all. What I had really wanted was a pair of Raf Simons Ozweego’s, the bunny cream joints. But when LJ reacted a bit too enthusiastically to that, I demurred and chose the instapumps. I went with it, we all met on the 3rd floor of the Fuji Daimaru and proceeded to Journal Standard. BM took me straight to the shoe rack, “Bra, i told you they had it”
“Crazy, they all black”
“Yeah they too much”
He had got me with that last sentence and he knew it. The too much was a line in the sand, a dare to see how far was I willing to go to be me. I had cringed the first time I saw a pair of instapumps in a reebok store in Hongdae, South Korea, 2014. However by the time of Kyoto,Japan, 2017, I knew I had to have them. It taken me 4 years to get to grips with dressing in South Korea, every 3 month trip was a learning curve, one that I had only mastered by the time of my last visit Seongbuk-dong, South Korea, 2015. I was determined not make the same mistake in Japan, to hit the ground running and ball, hard. MM had waded over, wearing the same disinterested look he’s had on unless he was looking at tech-wear.
“this the shit you were talking about?”
‘yeah didn't you see the picture in the group”
“nah i haven't checked my iPad today”
he’d been following me the whole time today. when LJ, BM and AdS had woken up early and gone out to see some temples, he'd slept in and left with me. he'd do this again back in tokyo, perhaps feeling the gulf in friendship between himself and the others. i picked up the shoes and turned them over trying to figure out how to wear these, my fashion IQ was not here yet but i was gonna force the issue. It didn't help that i had spent a lot of time on the ROSENROT, dissecting Gracias outfits and deciding that despite my recent move to pastel colours like in that WALE and LADY GAGA video, that in black lay my salvation. Courage seized me and i asked the dude if they had them in a size uk 9.
“uk? O-kay”
LJ was with AdS, styling him I suppose. journal standard had a two piece kimono suit that resembled a yukata that resembled the sunnei kimono shirt but not the 2017 one but the 2015 SS version. The suit didn’t work for him, it didn’t help that he had on a puka shell necklace without the shells but a New Zealand version with maori iconography. i know because my aunt had bought me the same one when she visited from Auckland,New Zealnd, 2008. the squareness of his frame didn’t help either but the store dudes were busy perhaps smelling a sale and were bringing out different colours. LJ looked a bit bored and tbh tired by the whole thing. MM was sitting on a leather ottoman fingering a nearby indigo dyed chore jacket. BM was over at the streetwear section, working slowly through bright converse and fila clothes. the staffer brought back the uk size 9 and attention turned to me again. the shoes didn’t work with the pants i had on and the staffers perhaps unsure of how translate their usual sales etiquette into english were looking at me expectingly. LJ pumped up the shoes and i felt a comforting envelopment of space around my right foot. the sensation was beautiful, similar to the caress of your foot or hand but softer and quieter. i told the dude to wrap it up then and got back on my heavy now dirty white eytys.
“you helping AdS?
“yeah he’s keen for the suits”
“you should try to finesse”
“im trying he asked if i wanted anything but he needs to jump on something before i jump”
“yeah”
BM came back with that affectation that he's been wearing since we got to Japan. brother muhammed vibes with the yarmulke, except he bought the yarmulke hat at a flamingo vintage and the yarmulke is jewish. he showed me some fila gear and we both expressed a favourable view of the brands comeback, logo heavy and very blue. I spent 13 000 yen on those shoes that rose to 14 120 yen with added tax. we went up another level, BM,MM and myself to the premium brand section, level 4. we went past the store with the staffer that i thought was pretty and she smiled at me. Her store had cav empt, lad musician and some other brands I've forgotten. MM claimed her smile for himself and BM saw the look on my face. two afternoons ago i had gone into the store with BM but he wasn’t very interested in what they had, i had spent a disproportionate amount of time contemplating some navy blue pants, when a male staffer had asked me if i wanted to try them on. i wasn’t sure but desperate for conversation with a japanese person i had tried to engage in small talk asking about other colours. he told me to just try the pants on. i didn't and made a joke he smiled at.

19TH STREET, Manhattan
In mid-September 2008 I embarked on my first Forgotten mission after a brief, but horrendous battle with a stomach flu of some kind that struck on September 11th, of all dates, a couple of hours after a meal of baked chicken and boiled frozen vegetables. (Even now, in mid-October, your webmaster hasn’t returned to frozen corn, beans or peas, but I know I have to eventually for the sake of health; I have been depending on salads for vegetative intake). So, I opted for a relatively brief hike on 19th Street, which I had found interesting some monhs back and filed a mental note to revisit. Not only did I find interesting architectural elements, but also some oblique references to my own life, as we’ll see…
The Joyce Theatre, at 8th Avenue and 19th, is a 472-seat dance performace venue opened in 1982 in the renovated and remodeled Elgin Theatre, opened in 1942, that had come on hard times in the 1970s as a porno palace — the renovation was suprvised by architect Hugh Hardy, whose Radio City Music Hall tour I attended — he revived RCMH as well — as part of Open House NY in 2008.
Your webmaster is not a ballet or modern dance fan, but I note the theatre because it is named for one of the founders of one of my workplaces. Joyce Mertz-Gilmore along with her parents, Harold and LuEsther Mertz, founded Publishers Clearing House, the premier direct marketing company in the country, in their basement in Sands Point, NY, in 1953. photo: wikipedia
The Joyce Theatre exists in great part due to the philanthropic efforts of LuEsther Mertz.
Directly across the Joyce, on 8th Avenue and 19th, was a Blimpie where I would get lunch once a week while employed at an international-language typesetter, ANY Phototype, on West 29th. In June 1990 I acquired one of my worst-ever stomach flus (until this year) at that Blimpie. Look, it made me remember the place. It was decorated unusually: it was filled with house plants.
I’ve only been in the Peter McManus Cafe, at 7th Avenue and W. 19th, once — in 1993, I had just gotten out of class at the School of Visual Arts, went in and called a friend to meet me there, whence we went to see The Fugitive, the Harrison Ford version. (I had a splitting headache that day.)
McManus looks as if it has been here forever, but it isn’t nearly as old as, say, the Old Town Bar or the granddaddy, McSorley’s Ale House. It has been owned and operated by the McManus family since it opened in 1936.
Looking south on 7th Avenue toward the old Barney’s. Several new residential towers have appeared on this stretch in the last few years (not at the fever pitch of 6th Avenue in the West 20s, though). Dominating the landscape is the new Coke bottle-green-glass-clad Yves Chelsea tower at West 18th. The penthouse will go for $10M, at least it was going to before all the Wall Street hotshots, bankers, and ill-advised real estate buyers tanked the economy.
Speaking of the economy, the last time your webmaster was out of work, all my unemployment check arrangements were handled electronically and there was less of a need to cut up paperwork before throwing it away. Nevertheless there will always be a neeed for scissors and shears, and that’s where Griffon came in. According to faded ad historian Walter Grutchfield, the Griffon Cutlery Works was founded by Albert Silberstein in 1888 and was located here on West 19th between 1920 and 1968. As you can see from the link the ad was in much better shape in 1986, and time is gradually taking a toll.
Note the palimpsest at the bottom. The company changed from “Works” to “Corporation” in the 1940s and painted over Works with Corp. Both are showing up now.
This sign is also an “example” of unnecessary quotation “marks.” They’re all over the place.
Pinking shears, by the way, are shears with jagged edges, used to cut thick cloth.
2008, meet 1908 along the south side of West 19th just east of 7th Avenue.
The Henry Siegel-Frank Cooper Dry Goods store, built in 1895 and in business until 1914, is the largest of the 6th Avenue Ladies’ Mile emporia, containing 15.5 acres of floor space. It used to have a clock tower as well as a large fountain, since removed and placed in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles. A ramp from the old Sixth Avenue El (razed in 1938) allowed passengers to walk directly into the store from the platform on the 18th Street side. This is Beaux Arts at its most Beaux.
The store pioneered the use of free samples, female salespersons, and air conditioning as customer inducements, and one of its mottoes was “Everything Under The Sun.” Industrialist/barbed-wire king John Warne Gates once made a bet with financier J. P. Morgan that the boast was just rhetorical. Gates asked a floorwalker if the store sold elephants, whereupon he was directed to the toy department; Gates responded that he meant a real elephant. The representative asked him what color, Gates responded “white” and the answer was “we’ll let you know the delivery date.” A few weeks later Gates received a telegram informing him his order would be arriving the next day at the docks: an albino elephant shipped from Ceylon. Gates paid Morgan the bet and donated the pachyderm to the Central Park Zoo.
I see something new every time I pass or enter the Siegel-Cooper building. For example, here is one of the intertwined S/C’s that flank the arched entrance.
All 4 corners of West 19th and 6th are held down bu beautiful buildings of varying beauty and fame. On the NW corner (above right) is the Simpson-Crawford Building, constructed in 1900 and home to the titular store until 1915. The store popularized the phrase, “if you have to ask the price, you can’t afford it” and indeed the store eschewed the use of sales tags.
A Greek Revival building on the NE corner (above right) is home to a Sports Authority. Paragon, on Broadway between East 17th and 18th Streets since 1908, is the big sports dog in the area.
At the SW corner (left) we see the first Benjamin Altman Building from 1876-1906, whereupon the store moved to a massive building that filled an entire block between 5th, Madison, East 34th and East 35th Streets, where it was in business for the following 83 years. Altman opened his first store at 3rd Avenue and east 10th Street in 1865.
At a time when real estate has gotten so prohibitively expensive that even big retailers like Barnes and Noble are forced out by high rents (as they were from their 6th Avenue and West 22nd Street location in 2008) it’s comforting to know that Apex Tech is still holding down the corner plot on West 19th. The school offers training in automotive, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding and auto repair since 1961.
Throughout the 1980s, when local channels 5, 9 and 11 were independently owned and showed mostly reruns and movies, the Apex tech commercials featuring the mustachioed Apex Tech Guy were a staple. His catchphrase was “Now, I can’t call you…”
Naturally, he doesn’t utter the famous phrase in this vintage Apex tech spot, but you get the idea…
A couple of midblock views between 5th and 6th Avenues. 35 West 19th, on the right, now home to Sala, a Spanish restaurant, is notable for being the longtime home of The Magickal Childe, ostensibly an occult bookstore but also featuring hexerei of the weird such as voodoo dolls, herbs used in potions, tarot cards and wicca (not witchcraft to devotees) paraphernalia. The Charmed girls would have fit right in.
The Cluett Building at 22-28 West 19th runs right through the block to 19-23 West 18th. The name of the building stirred a memory. Walter Grutchfield: The building was constructed in 1901/02 as the New York headquarters of Cluett, Peabody & Co. of Troy, NY. They were collar manufacturers and created the Arrow brand of detachable shirt collars. According to the Free Dictionary, “About 1905 the company began an advertising campaign that featured an idyllic young man wearing an Arrow shirt with the detached collar… Hundreds of printed advertisements were produced from 1907 to 1930 featuring the Arrow Collar Man. The fictional Arrow collar man became an icon and by 1920 received more than 17 thousand fan letters a day.”
I had to reach deep in the ForgottenArchives for this: Cluett, Peabody was a name I heard frequently in youth; both my grandmother and my mother (who I indicated, at left, in the photo of a company gathering that I’d estimate was from the early 1950s) worked at the Troy, NY company in the 1940s and 1950s.
Free Dictionary again: In the early 1920′s Cluett, Peabody & Co. began manufacturing their shirts with attached collars in response to consumer demand and became the most successful company in the U.S. at that time. Their sales increased to 4 million collars a week and arrow shirts with attached collars were being exported to foreign ports such as Jakarta, Indonesia, Java and the Belgian Congo. The Arrow Collar Man campaign ended in 1930 having been one of the most successful advertising campaigns in history.
My mother, of course, is the most attractive woman in the picture.
The Flatiron Lounge at 37 West 19th takes its name, of course, from the famed Fuller (Flatiron) Building at 5th Avenue, Broadway and 23rd Street.
I’m rarely in Sam Flax but only because I fear that when I’m in here, I’ll spend too much. Flax is second only to Pearl Paint in providing art supplies and everything necessary for putting pen or brush to paper. I hope its locale between 19th and 20th Streets west of 5th Avenue isn’t closing.
LEFT: Idlewild Books, a new travel book store, has become one of my new favorites (especially since the ForgottenBook is displayed prominently within). “Idlewild” was the old name for John F. Kennedy International Airport. Good luck, though, in the shadow of the Barnes and Noble flagship at 5th and East 18th.
At the SE corner of 5th Avenue and West 19th is the Arnold, Constable Building, yet another former department store.
Jim Naureckas, NY Songlines: Nine West, Victoria’s Secret are in former department store (1869-1914) that took up the entire block from 5th to 6th avenues; founded by Aaron Arnold and son-in-law James Constable, it offered “Everything From Cradle to Grave.” Mary Todd Lincoln was a frequent customer, as well as Carnegies, Rockefellers and Morgans.
Another Constable building can be found on Canal Street.
Briton Arthur Arnold opened a dry goods store in 1825 and took on James Constable as a partner in 1842. After the firm thrived for over a century, the last Arnold Constable store, at 5th Avenue and 40th Street, closed in 1975. (The comma, like the New York Times period, has disappeared along the way, so latterday customers thought an Arnold Constable was the original shopkeeper.)
Two narrow 1900-era towers flank West 19th Street at 5th Avenue. The building on the right was the longtime home of Weiss & Mahoney Army & Navy store and the former locale of the 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church (1852-1875). Your webmaster’s first job out of school was in 150 5th Avenue, a block away on 20th.
A pair of great escapes on East 19th between 5th Avenue and Broadway.
ABOVE: ABC Carpet, SE corner Broadway and East 19th, formerly W&J Sloane Furniture. RIGHT: contrast 35 and the Modernist 37 East 19th. 35 was the residence of Horace Greeley, editor, abolitionist and politician, from 1850-1853.
LEFT: NW corner Park Avenue South and East 19th, new tower tries for a Starrett-Lehigh vibe but doesn’t quite get there; I prefer the Doric-columned neo Renaissance apartment building at 105.
The American Woolen Building actually is entered on 221-227 Park Avenue South (marked with a ram’s head), while this, at 102-104 East 19th, is the freight entrance.
I’ve always loved the corner apartment building at 81 Irving Place and 123 East 19th — it’s festooned with dozens of terra cotta gnomes. And more gnomes.
For this 14-story apartment house, architect George Pelham, one of New York’s most active apartment-house designers, exploited the requirements of the zoning law to create an exuberant design [in 1929-1930] with dramatic setbacks and a striking rooftop pavilion surrounding the water tower. The building, planned with 107 small apartments, is faced with brick, often laid in intricate patterns to add excitement to the facades. The building is ornamented wth beige terra-cotta detail of a very high quality. Terra-cotta features include columns, balconies, and gargoyles embellished with animal heads, monsters, and other fanciful detail. NYC Architecture
The figure below right seems to be influenced by cartoonist R.F. Outcault’s 1890s creation, the Yellow Kid.
East 19th changes character, rather abruptly, for the block between Irving Place and 3rd Avenue and transforms itself into a tree-lined, suburban-style stretch dotted with small brick buildings, carriage houses and cottages. The tone is set by the ivy-covered NE corner building. Pete’s Tavern is one block south of here at East 18th.
In the early 20th Century the creative community had a great presence on this block, which was home to actresses Theda Bara, Dorothy and Lillian Gish, Ethel Barrymore and Helen Hayes; playwrights, authors and activists F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Reed, Emma Goldman and Eugene O’Neill were visitors.
There’s some riotous terra cotta tilework on the north side of the block; much of it is the work of architect Frederick Sterner and artist Richard Winthrop Chandler.
146 East 19th was home to painter George Bellows from 1910-1925, a man who lived the high life. “I went there in the evening a young girl and came away in the morning an old woman,” as Ethel Barrymore once said. Bellows, along with Edward Hopper, studied under Robert Henri at the NY School of Art and became a luminary in the modernistic Ashcan School. Possibly Bellows’ most famous painting was his depiction of Luis Firpo (“The Wild Bull of the Pampas”) knocking Jack Dempsey through the ropes in the first round in a 1923 fight. Dempsey recovered to KO Firpo in the second round. Artist Eric Joyner does a takeoff on Bellows’ vision in The Final Blow.
At 226 3rd Avenue on the NW corner is a terrific painted sign for the Piccolo restaurant.
The block of East 19th between 3rd and 2nd Avenues is dominated by the rather forbidding Mother Cabrini Medical Center, originally Columbus Hospital. Andy Warhol was treated here when he was shot by Valerie Solanas in 1968.
Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917), the first US Citizen to be canonized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church, founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart and established 67 orphanages throughout the USA , South America and Europe. Since 1931 her preserved remains have been displayed at Mother Cabrini Shrine in Fort Washington in upper Manhattan on a street named in her honor, Cabrini Boulevard.
Some bits of an increasingly retreating Little Old New York in the easternmost segment of East 19th, between 2nd and 1st Avenues.
We’ve already seen an item on 19th Street that reminded me of my mother. Here’s one that reminds me of the old man, who worked at Stuyvesant Town from 1955-1988 as a custodian. The apartment complex was constructed in the 1947 by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company; Peg Leg Pete, the Director-General of New Amsterdam, lived in this site on his farm in the late 1600s. It was championed by Robert Moses as part of his slum-clearance program in mid-century. When first opened, the complex would not rent to African-Americans, and the discrimination was held up in court. “Stuy Town” reversed the policy several years later. For many years, though the project didn’t have the necessary wiring for air conditioning, the waiting list for an apartment was quite long. The list was abolished when Met Life set about converting and upgrading the apartments to market rents beginning in 2006. Your webmaster foolishly never asked to get on “the list”, though Stuy Town would no doubt be trying to get my rent stabilized self out if I lived there now!
