The Ledge #543: Power Pop, Pt. 1 (The Past)
On a fairly regular basis I'm asked what type of music I most enjoy. It's a pretty tough question to answer, to be honest. The standard answer I hear in return is "I love all kinds of music", which to me is code for "I only like what's popular". Sorry, but having a playlist on Spotify that includes both Drake, Meghan Trainor, and Luke Bryan isn't the proof of versatility most of these poeple believe it is.
So what is the genre or sub-genre that is closest to my heart? "Punk" is a little too confining, and honestly there is a lot of shitty music under that moniker. "Alternative" doesn't mean the same today as it did 30 years ago since maintstream rock radio has co-opted it. "Garage rock" is indeed getting closer but still doesn't feel right.
I think deep in my heart the term power pop, or at least my version of the term, best describes my music taste. I was, after all, born the day The Beatles recorded their first single, and the first two rock and roll albums I owned just out of my toddler phase was the first Monkees record and theA Hard Day's Night soundtrack.
My teen years coincided with the rise of punk rock, and the initial blast of punk was primarily sped up power pop. Catchy tunes played fast, and that is where my description of power pop may be a little bit different from what others consider power pop. There's a lot of bands in this genre that, honestly, sound a little too wimpy for me. I emphasize the "power" portion of the term.
Tonight's show is not only a remembrance of bands and records from that time, but is also a reaction to reading a couple of great books that I recently acquired.Go All The Way: A Literary Appreciation of Power PopandGo Further: More Literary Appreciations of Power Pop are collections of essays on the genre compiled by Paul Myers and S.W. Lauden. This led me to dig through my iTunes archives to reacquaint myself with some long lost fave, and also asked for some suggestions on Facebook.
This show is part one of a two part series. Here's almost 2 1/2 hours of my favorites from the past. Next week will be a show devoted to current (or somewhat current) bands continuing to carry the torch for guitar-driven pop songs. Do you have some favorite current power pop bands or songs? Please let me know!!!
I would love it if every listener bought at least one record I played on either of these shows. These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs. And if you buy these records directly from the artist or label, please let them know you heard these tunes on The Ledge! Let them know who is giving them promotion! You can find this show at almost any podcast site, including iTunes and Stitcher...or

Welcome, dear readers, to part 1 of the finale to the BackupKingdom2 saga! We’re in our final ambition now, let’s check how Liz’s post-divorce-bloodbath is going..
Tumblr media
Oh yes, excellent. Our path to death-achievement-glory has been paved with so many executions that wherever I look I see npcs crying..
Tumblr media
..comforting each other..
Tumblr media
..and in Agnes' case, coming straight to Liz to.. ask for mercy for the populace I guess?? Bruh. I can't believe we even brought down AGNES, truly this is the saddest kingdom on earth. Amazing job, Liz, you've definitely earned your place in the tyrant hall of fame!
Now a lesser player would be like "oh, maybe we should chill a little on the insane tyrant thing, finish the Pirate/Noble arc cause we've been dragging this war out so the pirates/guildsmen would keep spawning and it should have ended like 20 quests ago" and true, we could just end it, we ran a very effective operation around here, shoutout to MVPs Donius and Bellinda and their 'seductive' legendary traits:
Tumblr media
They bedded them and Liz beheaded them, the power of teamwork! So one could say that we should consider raising kingdom morale now because everyone is so depressed but I think, if anything, now is the time to ramp it up and go for some of the other morally questionable achievements! Like Machiavelli said, you should commit all your atrocities at once! What do you think, Liz? Ready to get atrocious?
Tumblr media
-OH FUCK YEA, I’M ENRAGED, I DROPPED MY FIDDLE IN THE PIT AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE SERVANT TO GET ME A NEW ONE!! WHY DOES EVERYTHING ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME >:(
Aw I’m sorry Liz, but I’m sure you the upcoming suffering of your subjects will cheer you up!
Tumblr media
-Ok motherfuckers, by order of the Crown aka ME -you hear that Rae?? ME, NOT YOU. God I want to execute you so bad, fucking ingrate, do you remember what rags you were wearing when I hired you??
Let’s get this back on track, Liz.
-Right, so by order of the Crown, Magus Olivia and Spymaster Spainot are given COMPLETE LEGAL IMMUNITY to do whatever the fuck they want in the interest of earning achievements, so don’t you people come crying to me cause I don’t give one tiny chinchilla crap about your health and livelihoods. If you need me for something actually important, I'll be at the gates, executing anyone who doesn't like my fiddle playing.
Tumblr media
-Oh man, this folksy peasant hat isn’t protecting my ears enough.
Tumblr media
-THOUGHT I WOULDN’T HEAR YOUR LITTLE MURMUR, DID YOU  -YOUR MAJESTY NO I ONLY MEANT MY EARS WERE COLD -WELL ALL OF YOUR BODY’S ABOUT TO BE COLD NOW! CONSTABLE, THROW THIS PEASANT IN THE PIT
Tumblr media
-Death marker? I hardly know 'er!
So the Constable npc has this little Billy Elliot subplot going, I'm pretty sure he has the 'drunkard' fatal flaw because he was always at the tavern so I had Bellinda try to hire him to perform in one of her plays just to see what would happen and it actually worked, and now he moonlights as an actor! It's cute but it also takes forever for him to come arrest people.
Tumblr media
-THEY LOVE ME ❤️😁 -CONSTABLE WHATSYOURNAME, COME OVER HERE AND DO YOUR FUCKING JOB OR YOU'RE NEXT FOR THE PIT
Tumblr media
-No one knows what it's like to be the bad man, to be the sad man, when someone dies😢
In the background you can see that Bellinda just got a pregnancy bump, it’s her lovechild with Donius, I for real can’t keep these two apart. Anyway, the time has come..
Tumblr media
..to unleash Magus Olivia onto the populace.
-You know what, I'd rather not, this book is finally getting good and I'm sick of cursing peasants, it doesn't even drop their mood that much..
Oh no, Olivia my beloved, we're not cursing them, we're going for the 'Well Done' achievement!
-NO WAY.
WAY.
-Won't I be executed??
You have immunity! You can do whatever you want!! And, AND, once you complete it, because I know it's tiring, I'll give you a magic skeletal parrot as a gift!! Edward got all the materials for it while treasure-hunting, you'd think I'd let him keep it but that's not the kind of shop I'm running here.
Tumblr media
-This is my face of pure, childlike happiness!
Good lord, it’s terrifying, please don’t look at me like that.
Tumblr media
-Alright, time to roll down my sleeves so they look more sinister and do this thing.
You can do it, Olivia!
-Of course I can, save your reassurance for the flops that need it.
Tumblr media
-I.. cast.. INFERNO!
...
-What?
I mean really, those are the words, "I cast inferno"? Can't you say something with more evil magical flair?
-Not when I have to cast it 80 fucking times I can't.
Tumblr media
-IT BURNS, IT BURNSSSSS
Oh how the tables have turned, usually it's the witch that gets burned, huhu! Did you hear that, Olivia? Did you like my joke??
Tumblr media
-Oh, it's beautiful!
Well it wasn't one of my best-
-Not you, you needy moron, the sight of burning flesh! I can't wait to do this 79 more times!
Tumblr media
Alright, so everyone in the tavern has been turned into a chicken nugget, time to get some rest and check in with Spainot!
Tumblr media
-Amazing news, Rodolfo, I just got royal permission to unlawfully lock up and interrogate whoever I want for the achievements!!!
Tumblr media
-Darling, no offense, but aren't you a bit too shit at your job for that? -WHAT????
Tumblr media
-FUCK YOU RODOLFO YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS OF MY SUCCESS -I WISH I WAS JEALOUS OF YOUR SUCCESS, THEN YOU'D BE SUCCESSFUL AND I WOULDN'T BE MARRIED TO A BROKE LOSER
Tumblr media
-And then he says the only reason he hasn't dumped me is he doesn't wanna be a rando npc while Batshit Liz is on an execution spree, can you believe this bullshit? How can anyone be so hurtful??
Tumblr media
-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA NO NO PLEASE DON'T HAVE THIS CHINCHILLA MAUL ME I'LL GIVE YOU WHATEVER YOU WANT
-How about you give me some marital advice, are you even listening?! Ugh.
Tumblr media
That's right, while Olivia is inferno-ing the peasants, I've sicced Spainot on the nobility, specifically all those foreign diplomats that are always hanging in the reception hall, lagging up the place. We're going for the 100 interrogations achievement and we’ve installed a nice spiky torture chair right in the middle of the hall to save time! Now this is how we keep every stratum of society terrified enough to not realize that the person in charge is.. uh.. well you know:
Tumblr media
-DANCE TO MY FIDDLE, PIRATE, DANCE!
-I AM!!!!!
-DANCE MORE ENTHUSIASTICALLY. ALL THE WAY TO THE PIT
Tumblr media
After a couple days and several locations I feel we’re pretty close to 80 infernos!
Tumblr media
I’d say we’ve burned a good 50-60% of the population at this point, everywhere I look I see singed townies-
Tumblr media
-so we take this little barbecue to the palace because we’ve ran out of peasants and it’s time to start burning the foreign dignitaries. And it’s a good thing we do, because Olivia meets Nyrexis the Dragon!!!!
Nyrexis is the human form of the dragon from a hilar quest where there’s a dragon in the kingdom and you can either befriend it or slay it, I had Bellinda befriend it:
Tumblr media
So if you complete the befriend route of the quest, the human form of the dragon appears in town and is in love with whoever did the quest, in this case Bellinda. I am of course not about to waste Dragonfu on Bellinda’s basic ass, plus I feel Olivia is kind of a dragon with all the people she’s been burning so they have a lot in common!
Tumblr media
We dazzle Dragonfu with a coin trick! True magic at work.
-OMG IT WAS BEHIND MY EAR THE WHOLE TIME -I KNOW!
Tumblr media
Good God, all of Olivia’s ‘happy’ expressions are terrifying, just don’t smile ever again, you’re too evil for it, you’re gonna scare the dragon away!
Tumblr media
Or not!!!!
Tumblr media
 AWWWWW 🐲❤️🔮
Tumblr media
You know what, fuck it, let’s lock it down, when it’s right it’s right!
-Burn stuff with me forever?? -I WILL!!!!
Tumblr media
-We are gathered here today, under threat of fiery death, to join two unholy abominations in holy matrimony. Yes, the irony is not lost on me.
AW CONGRATS GUYS <3333 The wizard tower is so small and family un-friendly and Olivia is so unmaternal but come on, like I’m not gonna have her reproduce with a fucking dragon.
Tumblr media
Back to Spainot, we’ve hit a slight bump, mainly that this Snordwich lord is proving fucking impossible to torture.
-Um.. Are you enjoying this??? -Sure am, bad boy, but why don’t we take this somewhere more private already?
Wtf, stop sexually harassing the innocent person who’s torturing you! Does no one around here have any sense of humanity anymore??
Tumblr media
-Come on, Spainot, throw some flesh-eating rodents at him! -I’M BUILDING UP TO IT, RAE, GAWD. No one likes a back-seat torturer!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-HA, who’s the loser now, Rodolfo? Rodolfo?? RODOLFO
Ya Spai I don’t know how to tell you this, but I’m pretty sure he left while you were interrogating, I haven’t seen him in like 3 days.
-WHAT. So Olivia completes one achievement and gets a dragon wife and a magic skeletal bird and I complete three and get dumped?!
Well what do you want from me, I don’t make the rules!
-YES YOU DO
Can we move on, please? And Olivia had a very rough go of it-
Tumblr media
-she got burned in some rando quest and looked positively karma-stricken after, inferno-ing left and right while sporting this look! She deserves a magic bird!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Congrats on your success and 4 kids, Olivia!
-I love this skeleton bird more than I thought it possible to ever love something.
-Gee, thanks mom.
Tumblr media
We had leftover bones so here, Spainot, you get a magic bird too.
-A bone parrot is little comfort when you’ve lost the only bone that matters! Why Rodolfo, whyyyyy!!!!!!!!!
Oh I don’t know, probably because you challenged him to duels 3 times a day?
-No, that can’t be it.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but you look like a man who has nothing to live for?
-Yea, I certainly don’t.
So you wouldn’t mind like, jumping into the pit multiple times so you can get the parts we need for the hardest achievement in game aka Legendary Doomsword?
-Rodolfo had one of those too, it was legendary and now that it’s gone I’m doomed!!!
Ok ya ENOUGH metaphors about Rodolfo’s absent penis, although they really are writing themselves. We’ll get him back! If you survive all the pit jumping that is. Join us next time for part 2: Legendary Doomsword!

Main Masterlist & Taggies: @legally-a-bastard , @katrynec , @mistermiraclee , @who-talks-first
You should have known that sleemo wasn't going to let you get away with it. It was his own fault really. You had repeatedly told him the rules (No touching, no groping, pay up front) and he repeatedly broke them, you should have simply called security and let them deal with it but something about him pissed you off so much that you slipped a little spice into his drink. Not enough to kill him or seriously hurt him but enough so that you could steal his credits and his fancy holo-pad and that he couldn't stop you. It was then that you had security throw him out after grasping his chin tightly and whispering some nasty words to him that you would actually kill him if he ever showed up again.
Life had gone on after that and you honestly almost forgot about it. That is until the bounty hunters started showing up. Now bounty hunters coming to a club to watch the dancers wasn't unusual and you being requested for a private dance wasn't unusual either. What was unusual was when the first bounty hunter tried to bring you in, though he wasn't the smartest. Trying to slip you a drugged drink which you insisted he drink first, with your assistance of course, and when he took a small sip you had crawled on his lap, pinning his hands down as you tipped every last drop down his throat.
From there it was really a never ending stream, it had started slow but soon there was one you were fending off nearly every day. It honestly grew exhausting beating them with everything from a small knife coated with a weak poison that would knock them out tucked safely away in your panties, some you just offered money to while others forgot the bounty when you danced for them, one man you kicked in the nether regions so hard he left of his own free will figuring it wasn't worth it. Yes, you were pretty sure that this was going to be your new life - constantly on guard - though you weren't too upset considering all of the hunters paid you for a dance up front so you were raking in quite a few credits. But when three Mandalorians walked in you nearly fell off of the pole you were currently dancing on, you knew they had to be here for you.
You had been managing just fine when it was single bounty hunters coming after you but three, this was going to be impossible. You continued your routine until the song finished and you quickly switched out to try to come up with a plan. They had sat right in front of the stage you had just been on and deciding to get ahead of the metaphorical speeder you approach them.
You sauntered up with all the false confidence of the world, one of them - the green one - shifted up in interest as you approached as he had been relaxed sprawling over the couch. The blue one tilted his head in your direction and the silver one stood still, you took a deep breath as you reached the trio.
"I assume you're here for me. I'll-"
"We are." Your jaw ticked slightly in annoyance as the silver one cut you off. You paused before opening your mouth to speak only to be cut off by him again, "We can do this the easy way or the hard way."
There was a chuckle from the green Mandalorian though it held little humor, "Let her speak Din."
Din, that must have been the silver one's name. You couldn't miss the way he bristled at the green one's tone, you knew there was no way to out muscle them but the dissonance between them now that was something you could use. Deciding to play up on it you turned your attention to green purring out, "Are you in charge?"
Again you noticed how Din stiffened at your words and his helmet shook slightly when green replied, "Yes I am, such a smart girl."
You laughed and bit your lip lightly, "Well what I was going to say is I'll go with you three, no fighting, no problems, if you let me give you three a private dance."
"Do you think we're st-"
Din spoke only to be cut off once again by green, "Why would you do that? There's nothing in it for you."
You let out another breathy laugh before replying, "Might as well get my last kicks in before you three haul me to who knows where. Figure I should go out with a bang."
There was silence, greens helmet turned towards blue's and Din seemed to be staring straight into your soul. Green turned back to you with a short, "Fine."
Din launched up as he growled, "No. We aren't stupid, we're not going to play whatever little game this is."
You knew he was on to you but the other two seemed eager to go along with your little scheme. You offered him a soft smile and you strolled a tad closer to him, "Honestly, no tricks and besides am I really that much of a threat to you? I mean it's three to one, if I tried anything I don't think any of you would have any problems taking me down. I mean blue over here looks like he could eat me for breakfast."
On your last sentence you let your voice drop down slightly giving your words a double meaning that you knew blue caught as he shifted in his seat. Din stared at you and you shifted nervously until green spoke gruffly, "Let's go."
You blinked at them before tilting your head and motioning for them to follow you. You slid past the curtain leading to the private rooms and headed to the one closest to the back exit in case you actually managed to pull this off and needed a speedy getaway. You held the silky fabric blocking the view of the room to the side in order for the three men to shuffle into the room. As they got comfortable on the long couch in the front of the room you headed over to the holo-pad that controlled the music and selected a slow, sensual playlist. You hoisted yourself up onto the stage and slipped into your routine trying to ignore the fact that these were bounty hunters here for you.
You paused when you noticed that the green one had taken his helmet off and faltered as you saw his roguish good looks. He had slid his legs open and a smirk covered his brown face as a gloved hand patted his thigh causing you to stumble. Your eyed him up and down as you slowly climbed down from the stage. Biting your lip you sauntered over to him swaying with the music, you turned and lowered so your ass brushed his thighs.
Spinning back to face him you swiveled your hips around before placing one leg next to his hip, you trailed your fingers down your leg and smirked as his brown eyes followed your movement. You straightened back up before dropping into a squat and your hands slid up his legs to his thighs. He twitched slightly and one of his hands grasped yours. Lowering yourself to your knees you tilted your head at him with a seductive glance. He guided your hand to his upper thigh and you could tell he was hardening from the way his codpiece moved. You stared up at him you lowly questioned, "What would you like bounty hunter? I'll give you whatever you need."
"Boba. call me Boba and I think you'd look a whole lot prettier with something in your mouth pretty girl." As he spoke he worked on pulling off his codpiece and shifting his pants down in order to pull out his hard cock. You smiled up at him, while you would love to claim you were just doing this to get out of the bounty there was part of you that knew there was something drawing you to Boba and if you had given him a private dance under any other circumstance it would have ended much the same way.
Din let out a discontented grunt as you slipped Boba's hard length into your mouth sliding him as deep as he could go without choking you. Boba moaned his hand grasping the back of your neck as you sucked on his cock, bobbing your head up and down. Your hands moved to wrap around the part of him that you couldn't take while your other hand slipped to play with his balls. You let yourself look up at him doe eyed and slid him just far enough into your mouth that you choked lightly and your eyes watered. Boba's hips bucked as his nostrils flared. When you repeated the motion he groaned before squeezing your neck and pulling you off of his cock. Growling he stroked the back of your neck whispering, "Can I fuck you pretty girl?"
You nodded as you pulled off your already flimsy underwear and clambered onto his lap eagerly. Your hand grasped his cock as you slid his tip back and forth through your wet folds, the blowjob was sexier than you had anticipated and you were aching for stimulation. Boba's hands grasped your hips and you locked eyes as you sunk onto his length. Your walls stretched around him as you slid to his hilt let out a small whimper. Brown eyes gleamed as his hands tightened their grip and he snarled, "I wanna hear you screaming my name, pretty girl."
That was the warning you got before his hips were lifting off the seat to bounce you on his lap causing a startled moan to escape your body. Your jaw dropped as Boba absolutely pounded into you, he nuzzled into your neck pressing soft kisses and nips to the skin there. Your eyes darted to the other two Mandalorians in the room the blue one closest to you was unabashedly watching, a hand resting on his crotch his cod piece having been removed, and Din was pointedly staring at the empty stage.
Boba grasped your chin to turn your face back to him as he pulled away from your neck, your hands grabbed at his shoulders as his cock slid in and out of you. Your walls fluttered around him as he held your gaze and he groaned at your expression, "That's it, just like that pretty girl. Do you have the implant?"
"I'm safe." You panted out in response. You never liked the names that other patrons had called you but as Boba praised you your cunt clenched around him. He moaned again and his pace sped up, his cock slamming up into you as you cried out his name your walls clinging to him desperately. Your fingers dug into him as you approached your peak but Boba beat you too it as his hips slowed and stuttered as hot cum painted your walls. Squeezing around him you moaned and rocked your hips back and forth slowly to help him ride out his orgasm. Boba steadied your hips on his as he cooed out, "Such a good girl."
Your clenched yet again at his words as you whimpered slightly, another hand grasped your arm and your head turned to land on the blue Mandalorian next you. Dragging your eyes down his body you landed on his impressive length which he had been desperately stroking. Climbing off of Boba's lap with a soft whine you walked in front of the big blue man. His hands slid to your sides, tracing and soothing down your waist and hips. His big palms squeezed at your side and you bit your lip before murmuring, "Will you make me cum Mandalorian?"
He grunted and tugged you forward in between his legs, "Call me Paz. Think you can handle me mesh'la?"
Din let out another irritated noise as Paz gave out his name, his head turned away from you. Paz's gloved hand slid to your wet cunt, slipping two fingers into your folds and thumbing at your clit. Mewling at the intrusion you clenched around his big fingers as he pumped softly, you appreciated the prep as his cock was truly bigger than you had ever taken - proportional to the man it belonged to. Fingers stretched you out, scissoring and curling within your depths, and you clung to his shoulders as short cries flew from your mouth.  Your pussy clenched hard and Paz pulled his fingers from your depths as he nudged your legs apart with one of his knees, "When you cum mesh'la it's going to be on my cock."
You nodded and parted your legs to clamber onto his lap. He lined himself up with you and you trembled in anticipation as his head slowly pushed through your folds. As you sunk onto his cock you couldn't hold back the whimpers as he stretched you out further than Boba had. Tears filled your eyes as he eased you down onto his cock. Paz cooed, his thumbs massaging your lower back gently as his hips arched upwards, pushing into you and filling you to the brim. You whimpered out his name, pussy spasming hard as tears started slipping down your face. Paz started a slow pace pulling out and then pushing in deeper than he had been, "Kriff mesh'la this pussy is perfect, taking me so well. So good for me."
Before you knew what was happening you Paz had sped up and one of his fingers was toying with your clit. A light pinch to your clit had you unraveling completely. Your orgasm had you seeing white as your walls clenched around the length inside of you and your back arched hard, pressing your stomach against Paz. He growled out as his fingers sped up amping your pleasure to the next level and your muscles tensed. The tears that had trickled down your face increased to a steady stream as you wailed his name.
Paz looped his arms around your waist and suddenly he was standing. You wrapped your legs around his waist with a squeal as he adjusted to grab under your knees just before his hips pumped forward and your hips forcefully bounced against his. The obscene noises filled the air as he bottomed out within you on every thrust.  He turned while still holding you so Boba and Din could watch as he destroyed your tight little cunt. You pulled yourself flush to him as your arms wrapped around his shoulders while he pounded into you. Your whimpers and moans of his name flew through his helmet to reach his ears unfiltered as your face buried in his clothed neck.
His hips shifted slightly and he hit a super sensitive spot deep within you causing you to let out a loud cry of his name. This pushed him into orgasm as his cock twitched within you and as his hips continued to pump into his cum spilled into you. Your own walls clenched and fluttered around him as an unexpected orgasm swept over you. Head flying back you cried out Paz's name over and over again as your walls milked his length of every last drop of cum. Your breathing was coming out in harsh pants and you could tell Paz was similarly affected as his chest expanded against yours. Your walls continued to tremble and flutter around him as the two of you came down, you nuzzling into his neck as your body shook against him.
In a very gentle move he lowered each of your legs to the ground, keeping a firm arm wrapped  around your waist - without which you wouldn't have remained standing. He held you softly against him until you regained feeling in your wobbly legs and you took a tentative step. His hand found your hand to squeeze affectionately as he muttered, "Thank you mesh'la."
You smiled at him before you turned your head to the grumpy silver Mandalorian who was still pointedly looking away from the two of you. Boba, on the other hand, had been unabashedly watching and was palming at his cock which had hardened again solely from watching you be ravished. You stumbled, you had no illusions about how graceful you were after being totally wrecked by Paz’s massive cock, over to Din as you had noticed a very prominent bulge at the front of his pants. Slipping to your knees you rested your hands on his lower thighs as you looked up at him.
"That looks awfully painful Din, would you like some help with that?" There was silence for several long moments and you thought he was going to put an end to this whole affair and put you in binders on the spot. You were absolutely shocked when he finally grunted and then nodded his head.
You delighted in trailing your hands up his thighs and feeling how they tensed under your hands. It was easy to slip his cock and balls out of his pants without a cod piece in the way, you smiled up at him as you stroked him softly, "I just wanna make you feel good, that's all."
With that you sucked him into your mouth, allowing your spit to coat him thoroughly as you eagerly bobbed your head. Your spit dripped down his length as you hollowed your cheeks around him and Din's hand cupped your face as you slid him further into your mouth. Your eyes glanced up at him to see his helmet tilting back and you allowed your eyes to slide shut as you opened your throat to him, to focus on pleasuring Din. You gently eased yourself down to take majority of his length, feeling his cock sliding into your throat. Pausing for a moment to adjust and allow yourself to calm your breathing as you slowly eased your head up and down. Din swore and his gloved hand moved to the back of your head, grabbing hard as he spoke, "Shit cyare, I'm gonna cum. Do you want me to cum down your throat?"
You nodded best you could with a cock stuffed down your throat and you cupped his balls lightly. That was enough for him and his hips bucked slightly causing you to gag lightly before his cum was slipping down your throat. You swallowed lightly, fighting back the urge to choke as you worked him through his orgasm. As Din was sure he had shot all of his load into your waiting throat he slowly urged your head back off of his length. Your eyes slid up to his helmet as you pulled off of him and then your tongue dipped out to clean off his tip and shaft of any cum you hadn't been able to swallow. Din swore again as you pulled back and shakily sat of the ground, exhausted from the three men before you.
There was another bout of silence before Boba spoke again, "It seems a downright shame to bring you to that sleemo now that we've gotten to know you."
You looked at Boba shocked, the man looked as relaxed as he had before. His cock tucked away and his arms spread over the back of the couch. He shot you a smirk as he offered, "What do you say to a little compromise. We get to come back, whenever we want - whether individually or together, and you give us a private dance whenever we'd like."
You couldn't help but let a smirk cover your own face as you saucily asked, "Are you blackmailing me Boba?"
He laughed, "C'mon pretty girl, I think we all know how much you enjoyed that. We'll be on our merry way and you can keep doing whatever it was you were doing to fend off the other hunters, as long as it's not this."
You shook your head, "No, I usually just sedate them somehow. I've never done this with a patron before."
This time it was Paz talking, "Good. Let's keep it that way mesh'la. Only us."
The two of them rose, Boba popping his helmet back onto his head as he headed towards the hallway back to the main area and Paz followed after. Din was the last to rise, situating himself before rising above you and offering his hand. You took it and he hauled you to your feet, hand holding yours for just a moment longer.
As he stared at you you were positive that he was going to change his mind and bring you in but instead his hand rose to stroke your cheek. Rumbling out, "You tell no one of this. And like they said, only we get to touch you like that cyar'ika. Only us."
You nodded up at him and he stood for a second more before turning away to follow the other two out. You had to gather yourself as you walked over to collect your discarded panties and to come to grips of what just happened. You couldn't remember a time when you had ever been that thoroughly fucked and a smile covered your face as you hoped the three Mandalorians would come back soon.

Smile For Me (MiriTama)
TRIGGER WARNING FOR: self doubt, anxiety/anxiety attacks, intrusive thoughts
Disclaimer: This is a sfw tickle fanfic (I do not do nsfw for any fandom)
Summary: Tamaki Amajiki has always been an anxious soul. Once he met Mirio though, it began to change. He was still anxious, but learned how to manage it to ease some of it in his and Mirio’s favorite form of affection.
Word Count: 1,138
Author Note: God I am so sorry this took me months to write and it isn’t even good quality...I have been struggling with so much lately.
His chest was on fire, his throat felt like it was rapidly closing. Anxiety. He could never escape it, it was always around the corner to shit on his plans. He had been trying to talk to the class off 1-A but his little trick to calm his anxiety wasn’t working, they looked even worse as potatoes. He began to shake, words no longer forming. Mirio felt his buddy on the brink of an anxiety attack, so he put a hand on his shoulder to let him know he did well, but he could ‘run away’ if needed. It took no time to find a wall and face it, quivering in self pity.
‘Worthless. How pathetic of you Tamaki. They’re all looking at you, judging you. What kind of hero can’t talk in front of a simple class? You don’t deserve to consider yourself a member of the Big Three’
His words caused him to quiver more, the classroom as well as the talking completely drowned out now. He was trapped by his own thoughts. No one could save him. Nothing ever would. Why can’t he just be his own hero and calm himself down? No. No no no no-
“Amajiki? Dude? You okay? The presentation is over, we can leave now.” Mirio had a hand on his shoulder, his eyebrows furrowed together.
“Let’s go home. I wanna go home. Can we go home?” His voice was shaking, he refused to look up as he followed Mirio and Nejire back to their dorms. He remained in his head the entire way there, criticizing himself, further bringing his self confidence.
“You’re too rough on yourself Tamaki, you gotta lighten up and see the sunshine!” Nejire cheered, her eyes lighting up.
“Positivity, I don’t like it.” He groaned, he knows she was only trying her best to support him, and here he was again being negative.
“How about we do something you do like? Hm, buddy?” Mirio suggested, watching a blush creep on his face.
Amajiki wasn’t oblivious, he knew exactly what Mirio was talking about. It’s something they’ve done since childhood. While he was shy to affection, he never minded it from Nejire or Mirio, since they understood him. Since they were his friends. He was always too timid to ask as well, which is why they they came up with a method to help ease some of that.
“That...that would be nice.” He spoke softly, playing with the tip of his tie.
“Gentle today, buddy?” He asked kindly, unsure if he wanted to forget his anxiety or cope with it.
“Gentle.” He was already squirmish.
“Oh! Oh! I call his tummy! I get to tickle his tummy!” Nejire called out excitedly, waiving her hand at said spot. He groaned, she was always so blunt and forgot the effect it had on him.
“Nejire, quiet, you might kill him by saying the words.” Mirio pointed to his blushy faced friend.
“What!! He likes it!! Can I start now, Tamaki?” She asked politely, not wanting to start without his permission just in case he changed his mind.
“Please..” He said shyly, starting to lay back.
Gently they both picked their spots and began to gently skitter their fingers. Light giggles began to pour out of his mouth, trying not to squirm too much.
“Mihihihehehe-” Giggling out Miro’s name, cautiously grasping his wrists.
“Yeah, buddy?” He smiled, knowing he never would get a response.
“Does this tickle Tamaki? Just like you wanted? All soft and tingly?” Nejire asked genuinely, but he couldn’t help but blush even more so at that.
“Mahahahaybe! Ne-ehenew! Spot!” He was starting to crave more of the tickly feeling.
“Where to?” He asked as they removed their hands.
“Chef’s choice.” Oh, so he wanted to play that game, huh?
“Well...I don’t know where you’re ticklish dear friend. Mind telling me?” The sweetest smile spread across Mirio’s face as he watched his anxiety ridden friend start to laugh with anticipation giggles. This had to be one of his favorite games.
“No? But come on Tamaki! I wanna tickle you all over!! It’ll be so much fun! I promise to tickle you to tears, just the way you love with my nails!” She cheered, making wiggly claws towards him.
He all but fainted at the sight of her nails. He really needed this, he needed to let go. “No. I’m not ticklish.” He said confidently, but hid under his hands.
“What do you mean pumpkin pie? So this won’t tickle you? Not even a teeny tiny bit?” She gently dragged her nails across his collarbone.
“Oh, would you look at that Mirio, I think that’s a smile. Maybe even a laugh? I wonder how long he’ll last.” She sped up how fast she was wiggling her nails, and never kept it in the same spot either.
He had no clue where she was going next. She was at his neck scraping her nails against it, then a second later was pinching his hips but by the time his hands flew down to his hips to grab her wrists she was up at his ribs drilling them. She was so experienced from all the times she tickled Mirio.
“I think you’ve teased him enough Nejire.” Mirio says sympathetically, signaling for her to go in for the kill.
Without any further words spoken, she swiftly shoved her hands into the hero’s underarms, causing him to arch his back and squeal. It was his worst spot, and they knew it too. He was way too ticklish there, even applying deodorant tickled him.
“NEHEHEHJIREHEHEHE! OH MY GOHOHOHOD!” His arms clamped down on her wiggling fingers and he threw his head back with happy laughter, kicking his feet wildly.
Mirio took it upon himself to gently brush the hair out of his face, allowing him to enjoy himself fully, content listening to the sweet sound coming from his best friend.
The tickling went on for a good few more minutes before he grabbed her hands and removed them gently. “I cahahan’t....I cahahan’t. No mohohre- please.” He giggled out breathlessly.
“Well, Tamaki!! Did it work? Are you feeling better now that you got all your tickly tickles?” She asked excitedly as he groaned in embarassment.
“Nejire, he loved it, he always does. But he’s always really shy after rememeber? Gotta be gentle. Right, buddy? Which aftercare do you want this time? Cuddles or nap?” Mirio offered him a water bottle, which he took gratefully and chugged it.
“Both?” He asked sheepishly, laying back on the ground.
“Both!!!” Mirio and Nejire exclaimed at the same time.
Days like this were Amajiki’s favorite, they were relaxing moments with his best friends. He would never forget days like these, no matter what, he always had his best friends...while they might not be pro-hero’s yet...to Tamaki they already were.

“Look dad, I can’t really talk right now.” You muttered into the phone. “Don’t tell me you’re working pumpkin.” Your dad responded, a slight hint of fatherly disappointment in his voice. “It’s Friday night. You should be out with Ethan, enjoying your youth!” He exclaimed.
“We just got back from a case so I have a mountain of paperwork.”
“And what does your fiancé have to say about this?”
“He’s working too.”
Anthony sighed on the other line. “At least tell me you’re not in that office all alone.”
“Don’t worry dad, uhm, Spencer is here.” You glanced in the direction of the brunette doctor. He looked up at the sound of his name escaping your lips and a timid smile appeared on his face. Nervously, you smiled back before quickly averting your gaze.
Ever since your slip up on the case, you didn't know how to act around him. You felt incredibly guilty for allowing your emotions get the best of you, and almost ruining the friendship both of you cherish so hard.
Spencer on the other hand, being his usual kindhearted self, didn't let the tense situation change anything. Partially because he felt guilty too, although mainly because he knew that he’d lose you forever if he allowed for one moment of weakness to get between you.
He did everything in his power to make sure things weren't super awkward. He initiated conversation at every opportunity. He brought you coffee in the mornings, and walked you to your hotel room at night. He showed no sign of anger or disdain, yet you remained distant.
“Ah good, good.” Your dad retorted. “Say hello to the brilliant doctor for me, won't you pumpkin.” “I will. Bye dad, love you.” “Love you too.” You hung up the call and placed your phone on the desk. Sighing softly, you ran your fingers through your hair before once again glancing in Spencer’s direction.
The hazel-eyed man was already looking at you. This time, as your eyes locked, your heart skipped a beat.
“My dad,-” You cleared your throat. “My dad says hi.” You repeated the short message making the small smile on Spencer’s face spread a little wider. “Next time you’re talking to him, say hello from me too.” You nodded at his request and with one last shy smile, you turned your attention back to the files spread across your desk.
As you tried your best to focus on the task at hand, Spencer found himself unable to avert his gaze.
It hurt to see you act this way. It hurt to see you hurting.
“Are you hungry?” Spencer asked, making conversation. You shook your head ‘no’ without even looking at him.
The brunette doctor could tell that there was something on your mind. He could also tell it was something bigger than the almost kiss.
He got to his feet and ambled towards you, stopping at the edge of your desk. His sudden closeness, more so the smell of his cologne, caused you to avert your gaze upwards.
“We should talk.” He stated calmly.
“What about?” You played oblivious, blinking up at him.
“About what happened the other day.”
Shit. “I have a lot of work to do Spencer.” You replied quietly, so quiet in fact you weren't even sure he heard you.
“I think this is more important Y/N.” He uttered while pulling up a chair next to you. “You’ve been walking on eggshells around me for days now, and it needs to stop.”
You swallowed your breath. “That’s easier said than done. We almost crossed a line, and I can't help but feel terrible about that. Fuck Spencer, I’m getting married.”
“I know. Which is why almost is the key word there Y/N.” He said. “Plus, don’t forget that you’re not the only person complicit in what happened. I was there too and unlike you, I didn't stop us.”
He was of course correct. Spencer was the voice of reason even back when you were dating. He always did the right thing, and knew exactly how to bring you back to earth - especially when you didn't want to.
You nodded your head slowly. “I-I guess you’re right.”
Spencer smiled at your response. “Of course I am. Now, are we good?” “I guess we’re good.” You repeated. Although your gut was telling you something different.
Spencer sprung to his feet and extended his hand. You furrowed your brows slightly confused. Spencer immediately noticed the perplexed expression and your face and chuckled lightly. “You can’t work on an empty stomach.”
“Sure I can.” You tried to stand your ground but the brunette doctor wasn’t having it. Usually, this is where he’d grace you with a fact or statistic about using your brain while your stomach was empty. But not this time. Without uttering another word, he reached for one of your hands and pulled you up effortlessly.
“Let’s go. Come on.”
Over the next week while everyone cleared out for the evening, Spencer and you remained. To anyone that asked the excuse was of course work. The truth was a lot more complicated.
Although neither of you admitted it, those late nights at the office were the best part of your days. You laughed, ate cheap take out dinners, reminisced, played chess. Spencer taught you card tricks, while you played him newly discovered music. Bliss.
Of course, you could have done all of this either of your homes. Ethan was away at a conference meaning you had the free space, but you couldn't bring yourself to suggest it. Since with every day that passed your feelings for Spencer shifted into something all too familiar. The office was safer.
“We better get some work done.” You laughed as Spencer threw his arms up to celebrate yet another chess game victory.
“You're just saying that because you lost.” He grinned causing you to roll your eyes. “Have you ever heard of the term ‘sore winner’ doctor? Because that’s what you are.” You said making him laugh.
“Still a winner.” Spencer replied shrugging his shoulders. He opened the drawer of his desk to retrieve a black notebook and grabbed a pen. He flicked briskly through the pages to find the correct one and scribbled down the scores. “This marks my tenth win against you this week.”
“Don’t get cocky genius. I’m not that far behind.” You affirmed.
Spencer’s grin grew a little wider. “Have you ever heard of the term ‘sore loser’ Y/N? Because that’s what you are.” He teased. Laughing, you reached for one of the chess pieces and threw it at the brunette doctor. He caught it with ease and gloatingly stuck his tongue out at you.
“How very mature doctor.” You joked while standing up. You straightened out your skirt and fixed the hem of your shirt before glancing back up at the hazel-eyed man who was watching you intensively. The second your gaze landed on him however, he looked away clearing his throat.
“I should eh, get those boxes back to the file room.” Spencer said while pointing at the stacked cardboard pile.
“I’ll give you a hand.”
“No, no. I can manage.” He replied while getting to his feet. Rolling your eyes, you walked over to the boxes. “Don’t be silly doctor. It would take you at least four trips, and together maybe we’ll manage in two.” You said looking back at him.
The brunette doctor swallowed. Spending this much time with you alone was a dream come true, and he knew he should consider himself lucky. However, with every second that passed he could sense something lingered in the air. The kiss that didn't happen.
It wasn’t a huge issue. As long as the two of you were preoccupied, Spencer’s mind stirred away from wondering about things it shouldn't be. The almost kiss. Yet now he found himself feeling lightly awry of going to the file room with you.
Eventually he nodded and moved toward you, reaching for one of the boxes still on the ground. His heart hammering inside his chest as you looked at him with the prettiest smile gracing your already perfect features.
“This way we’ll be done in no time, and maybe have time for another game of chess.” You stated as you walked ahead to the elevator.
“Another chance for me to beat you.” Spencer replied, trying his best to hide his sudden nervousness.
“Someone’s feeling confident.” You noted while stepping inside the machine. The brunette doctor followed close behind. He pressed the floor button with his elbow and soon the elevator began to move.
Spencer chuckled. “Taking into consideration our past games, the odds are in my favour.”
His eyes locked with yours again. Of course he caught himself staring at times over the last week- how could he not? He knew that you noticed it too, but it didn't seem to bother you. Quite the opposite actually. It ever so slightly made you blush.
“Why didn’t you stop us?” The question escaped you unintentionally. Once you realised you said it, it was too late. Shit.
What do you mean?” Spencer asked, although he knew exactly what was on your mind and your lack of response only proved he was right.
Before he could say anything, deflect perhaps, the elevator stopped on the desired floor. The doors flung open, and you didn't waste any time to hurry out of there - away from the conversation.
“Y/N, wait!” Spencer called after you.
“I shouldn't have said anything.” You replied without looking back at him.
Spencer huffed. He hurried ahead and towered over you, causing you to halt in your spot.
“We were doing good, we had a great week. Can we just forget I even asked that stupid question? It just slipped out and...” You trailed off; hesitantly glancing up to meet his gaze.
“I can tell this is bothering you. I can tell this is obviously still on your mind just like it is on mine, therefore this time we should talk it out.” Spencer retorted.
“Please Spencer, just drop it.” You muttered back. With your mouth pursed into a tight smile, you began to walk around the brunette doctor.
What happened next was a blur.
Faint thud. Clatter. The cardboard container previously in Spencer’s hands was now on the floor, papers spilling out.
He pulled you back. His grip around your arm strong yet not too tight. In the space of a single heartbeat, before you got a chance to react, his lips were on yours.
The kiss was slow and soft, comforting in ways that words would never be.
As Spencer’s hands moved graciously to your face, your grasp on the box loosened and fell to your feet completely betraying your better judgement. Once there was nothing left between you, Spencer pushed himself in closer so that you were now standing chest to chest. Completely melting into one another.
Your instincts were to push him away and tell him to stop. Tell him if what didn't happen last week was wrong then this definitely was too. Instead your fingers tangled in his perfectly messy hair, tugging slightly at the roots. The butterflies in your stomach fluttered harder with each passing second.
Spencer bit your bottom lip causing your mouth to part. His tongue slid inside within an exchange of breaths and attached itself to yours. His hands still holding your face, thumbs gently caressing your flushed pink cheeks.
Without warning, past memories of the two of you in this very position flooded your mind. Spencer and you kissing for the first time outside your old apartment door. Sharing soft comforting moments after particularly tough cases. Leaning across the dinner table at a restaurant, the flickering light reflecting in Spencer’s eyes. In the middle of the street, under the street lamps, as if you were the only people left in the world.
The overpowering euphoria you felt just seconds ago passed and was immediately replaced by guilt.
Both of you pulled away breathless.
“This- I- we- I can’t. I’m sorry.” You blurted out, freeing yourself from his embrace.
The words were painful to say and even more agonising for Spencer to hear. His nose twitched, and his eyes glossed over with tears. However, he didn't protest. He nodded his head in understanding and swallowed his breath.
“Treat it as a goodbye kiss.” Spencer rationalised. “Now, there is nothing holding you back from your happy ever after.”
His lips formed into a thin half-smile before he began to clean up the files currently scattered over the floor.
You opened your mouth to say something but no words came out. What could you have said? That now there was something holding you back?
You chewed on your lip and wiped the single tear from the corner of your eye before joining him in complete silence.
It was better to leave it alone. Yet another memory - right?
(Baby, we both know) That the nights were mainly made For sayin' things that you can't say tomorrow day

Sleepless (LoV x Reader)
Pairing: League of Villains x Reader, platonic relationship
Shigaraki, Toga, Twice, Kurogiri, Dabi x reader
@riarora messaged me with the request: "So I was thinking platonic LOV x child reader (You can make them 18 if you're more comfortable, but I was thinking more like 14-15)The reader (I'll refer to them as she/her, but you can make it gender neutral) has really bad insomnia so every night, she would be pacing around, doing anything and everything to make sure no dark thoughts take over. Usually, none of the LOV would bat an eye, but considering the fact that she's a child, they feel sympathy, so they indirectly try to get her to fall asleep. Like, sending her on extra missions (always with protection of course) or changing her normal tea with sleeping tea, or maybe just straight up telling her to sleep."
Genre: Comfort
Word Count: 2,291

a/n: Thanks for the request sweetie!  I hope you like it~
Wrote this while listening to a Shinsou playlist on Spotify and it was pretty chill to listen to, if y’all want the link you can comment or dm me and I’ll send it.  Something different, but I like how it turned out. It's twice as long as I thought it would end up being, but I think it fits.  It's a comfort story that I hope you guys will read even if you don't normally read stuff for the villains.  I really like it, I hope you guys read it if you need some comforting.  Enjoy~
Like a lot of people, I don't have the nicest thoughts.  Most nights, I'm trying everything to block them out and find the sweet release of sleep, whether it's trying to consciously think of other things to block them out, escaping out of my sheets to pace or run in place inside this small room I was given, or getting up to get a snack.  Unsurprisingly, none of it works.  The rest of the League constantly tease me about my dark circles making me look more villainous all I do is smile, because at least it means I'm part of something now.  I would ask them to get me something to busy myself, like a sketch book or a notebook to keep me busy at night, but they aren't my parents; they have no obligation to take care of me and they've already give me a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in.
Little by little, the perceived barrier between us broke down before I realized it.
It started when I took one of my late night trips to the kitchen only to see the light on already.  Toga's crooked but innocent smile beams up at me as she twirls a knife in her hand, leaning against the counter.  "You're up too, hmm~?  Wanna take a trip with me?"
We ended up shrugging on our jackets and masks, walking into the dark, brisk night to the nearest grocery store.  "You waited until 2 AM to get pomegranates?" I raised an eyebrow at her zipping straight to the produce section of the market.
"I didn't wanna go alone~" Toga casually responded in her singsongy voice.  "A little girl like me shouldn't be out alone at night.  Besides, late night shopping in a practically empty supermarket is the best time to go.  It's super creepy!"  She giggles, filling a plastic bag with three large fruits.
We returned to our hideout and she asked me to help her de-seed them.  I slide in next to her, taking the knife out of her hand.  Not like I had anything better to do.  What was I gonna do, sleep?  Sure, okay.
She sliced the fruits in half and held her hands over a large, empty container, using just her hands to push the seeds off the bitter white core, humming to herself.  "Are you sure there isn't a more...strategic way to do this?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at the mess she was making of her hands.
Toga just giggled and held my stare with her cat-like yellow eyes.  "When it gets all over your fingers, it kind of looks like blood doesn't it?" She shivered in ecstasy as she licked the scarlet juice running down her hands and the knife she cut them with.  "Mmm, so sweet."
While I continued, trying to avail to be as clean as possible, taking sips of the tea she made for us while we work.  I chanced a few tastes myself, chuckling at my own hands.  "You're right, it looks like we've commit murder."
"Right?" she chirped with the widest grin, "Isn't it fun?"
I made a better point to get more juice on my fingers before curling my fingers grossly towards her.  "I want your heart, Toga.  Give it to me!" I growled.
She giggled and held one of my wrists so she can lick some of the juice off.  "Too bad you can't have it."
After we finished gathering the seeds into the bowl, we sat on the couch, munching on them by the handful and finishing our drinks.  My eyelids kept drooping as I drank my tea.
"We should go on adventures more often," Toga purred as I near the end, taking my cup, laying me down, and covering my body with a blanket before petting my head.  Her voice singing, "Sleep well, (Y/n)" was the last thing I heard before drifting off.  It was the best night's sleep I'd gotten in a long while.
.
A few days later, Kurogiri stopped me from heading to bed while the rest went off.  "I heard you and Toga up late a few nights ago.  Why don't you help me clean up before going up?"
I agreed, mostly because I would be awake with my thoughts anyway.  He had me shining his glasses, climbing up a ladder to dust the top shelves of his bar, wiping down the counters, and organizing his liquor.
"Have some of this, child."  He set down a cup of tea and saucer on the counter while I was organizing his top shelf liquor, the clock flashing 1:57 AM.  "You've been a big help."
I climbed down carefully and stare down at the translucent, peach colored liquid carefully.
He noticed my cautiousness.  "How are you adjusting?"
I tilted the cup around, swishing the liquid around before holding it up to my lips.  "It's better than where I was before, thank you."
"I'm glad you're settling in and getting along with the rest."
"It's just Toga so far."  I sipped a good portion of the hot liquid, easing down my through smooth as the honey I can taste that he added.
"It'll take time for the others to warm up to you.  Shigaraki and Dabi especially don't take to strangers that easily, but they'll come around."  His cold, portal enclosed hand rested on my head.  "We're happy to take you in as our family, (Y/n)."
I smiled at his assurance of me, nodding in gratitude, but still hesitant about feeling that I fit in here.
We talked for a while more until I finished his tea and he sent me off to bed.  Though reluctant - I even offered to do more cleaning up to keep myself there - he insisted I leave.  I trudge to my room, the exhaustion in my bones and muscles more apparent than usual.  I know this old trick; even when I'm fatigued, my thoughts still keep me up.  But as I ease under the blanket and close my eyes, I feel myself pulled down into sleep without interference.  I started thinking there was something in the tea.
.
It took a while for Shigaraki to come around, as Kurogiri said.  He heard the rustling of me rolling around in bed on his way back from getting a glass of water from the kitchen.  "Hey, you still awake?"
I turned over and sat up.  "Am I bothering you?  I'm sorry-"
"You wanna come play games with me?"  It was an unexpected question.  He never talked much to me so I figured he wanted to keep his distance.
But I still agreed, ending up in his dark room where only the TV cast its artificial light over us.  He pulled up another pillow for me to sit with him, leaning back against the mattress and box-spring stack.  He resumed his game, some kind of RPG with amazing art and storytelling.  The main character had jet black hair and traveled with three other guys of varying talents and personalities.  They seemed to have a great relationship together as they trekked across their virtual world in a fancy car. (1000 brownie points if you know which game i'm referencing)
There was a hilarious part in the game where the crew rode on the backs of these fluffy, yellow birds that were the size of ostriches.  "What's the point of this part?" I asked curiously.
Shigaraki beamed at the screen, his chapped lips spreading in joy.  "It's just something you always have to do in these games."
My eyes remained glued to the screen.  Shigaraki wouldn't ask me if I wanted to play after one time, which I appreciated.  I'm not too good at playing games, I prefer watching other people play them from the sidelines.  I followed the complicated story line, impressed with how fleshed out the world is, the detail in the art, and the power system interface.  If I were better at gaming, I'd understand how amazing it would feel playing it; I was immersed in it even as a spectator.
The game got to a cave-crawling segment.  The eased up voice acting, ambient noise, and dimmed lighting made my eyes heavy.  I didn't want to fall asleep in Shigaraki's room, but I also knew that I wouldn't be able to sleep if I went back to mine.
"You can sleep if you want.  Get comfortable."
Though he didn't particularly use a motherly voice like Kurogiri, I understood he was trying to come off the same way.  I ended up laying on my head on my pillow, sprawling onto the floor on my stomach, the noise of the game slowly lulling me off to sleep.  In the morning, I would wake to a blanket pulled over my body.  It somehow became a weekly occurrence; we wouldn't talk to each other, but the silence was comfortable.  It was reassuring that I didn't always need that strange tea to put me to sleep.
.
Late nights with Twice are probably my favorite.  He's like a huge dad, or much older big brother.  I connected with him on a more emotional level than the rest.  If I found myself in the kitchen rummaging for snacks, he'd come up and pick out a bunch and sit us at the table with some tea.
"I have trouble sleeping too sometimes," he admitted, popping some chips in his mouth.  "I was lonely before I found these guys.  I had no one but myself, and the many versions of myself weren't the most forgiving on me either."
I stared down at my glass of warmed milk.  "So your thoughts were actually told out loud to you all the time?" I whispered softly.
"Yup."  He blinked before waving his hands in front of his face wildly.  "But that doesn't mean I had it worse than you, that's not what I'm saying at all!  Your problems are just as valid and important and-!"
"It's okay, I understand."
He offered a sympathetic lopsided smile.  "I know you've been through a lot, kid, and it probably feels like a lot and nothing at the same time.  The times when it feels like a lot will hurt, and that's okay.  You'll get through it and grow up to deal with it in your own way.  And there is a light at the end of the tunnel, believe me.  You can't see it now, but it's there.  Keep fighting through it."  He touched my hand over the glass.  "I'm here for you, we're here for you."
I felt like crying, suddenly choked up by the bitter nostalgia of missing my parents.  "You'd be a great Dad, Twice."  I tried to cover for my tears and unsteady voice by clearing my throat and rubbing my eyes.
He hummed in response.  "I've always wanted a kid.  Things never ended up that way though."
I found myself finally sobbing at his misfortune piling on top of mine.  "That's really shitty actually," I choked out.
He handed me a tissue to wipe my face with.  "Let it out, kid.  Sometimes it's good to just cry it out."
And I did, until I finally sobbed myself to sleep at the table, and Twice picked up and returned me to my bed, tucking me in like the soft dad he should've been.
.
Dabi remained the hard nose one, keeping his distance and looking down on me.  Like Shigaraki, walked by my room while I was tossing around, but he stood over my bed.  "Hey.  If you don't go to sleep, I'm putting you to work."
Put me to work he did, sending me out to fetch him snacks, cards, or cigarettes.  Once, he decided to join me and we ended up on the roof of our abandoned building after coming back from the convenience store.  The stars already dusted the sky as Dabi lit the cigarettes with his blue flames just for fun, watching them disintegrate into ash in front of his eyes.  I never knew how to get him to open up, he's too gruff for me to start a conversation with him, so I stuck to being mesmerized by his flames.
"What's on your mind that you can't sleep, kid?" he finally asked, breaking the awkward silence and cutting off his quirk to stare me hard in the eyes.
"N-Nothing."  I hated to admit it, but I'm scared of Dabi the most.  Both him and Shigaraki can end my life in a fraction of a second, but Dabi overall has the scarier aura.  "Just...thinking."
After a few more moments of braving his stare, he looked up.  "Yeah, we all do that a lot, don't we?  Us damn human can't help but think.  It'd be nice if we can pull the cord sometimes, yeah?"
"I guess," I answered carefully.
He studied me again out of the corner of his eye before flickering back up.  "Do you ever think that's why none of us survive well alone?  We need other people to distract us all the time because then we'd get stuck in our heads, and we all know how dangerous that can be if we're stuck there for too long.  It never ends well."  He adjusts himself, placing his hands behind his head to rest his neck.  "We all got demons, kid.  It's what makes us stronger, but you gotta grow from them first.  And I guess that's what the rest of us are for, so if you need us, you know what to do."
It was with Dabi that I realized he had a point.  I'm not alone anymore and none of the others seem to think of me as a stranger or a stupid little kid they have to be responsible for.  I'm a member of this group now, I should rely on them as support, just not in the traditional way.
How I ultimately ended up here doesn't help any of the awful things I tell myself or what happened to me, but being here definitely helps, especially when I'm surrounded by people who subtly share solidarity with for now.

When I Fell Overboard [Chapter Eight: Never Been The Type To Trust]
Read on ao3
Synopsis: Sebastian struggles with his relationship with Maru as she strives to get close to him. Meanwhile, he and Elliott get closer and closer.
Trigger warnings: Panic attacks, fighting, snapping, potentially unsympathetic Robin, crying, food mention, let me know if I missed anything please
Fall came around full force. Nearly overnight, the leaves turned red and orange and yellow, crisp breeze carrying them across the cobble walkways. Pierre and Caroline had Abigail help them hang a huge sign above their entranceway advertising their ‘one of a kind’ and ‘Joja-free’ pumpkin seeds. Gus brought out a new menu, similarly pumpkin themed, but Sebastian couldn’t say he hated the spiced pumpkin mead.
He and Elliott spent most days together. Any time he had to pull himself away, either to get some alone time or catch up with Abigail and Sam, they stood behind Elliott’s closed door with their arms wrapped around each other, Sebastian safely cradled against Elliott as they promised to meet again soon.
Sebastian was falling hard. Every time he saw Elliott, he couldn’t help but smile. Elliott would do something small, like whisper an “aha!” when he figured out how to fix a plot hole, or accidentally burnt himself with his raspberry tea, or made too many crab cakes and had to share, and all Sebastian could think was, “I love you.”
It was becoming a little bit of a problem. Elliott showed no signs of feeling the same way, gave Sebastian no hints, nothing to work off of. He eventually broke and spent a good twenty minutes venting to Sam and Abigail, who stared at each other, and then him, and then each other, then Sam sighed and left the room.
“What’s his problem?” Sebastian asked, face hot.
“You. You’re an idiot.” Abigail grabbed her drumsticks. “Come on, if we start he’ll come back in.”
Abigail was spending a suspicious amount of time with Maru. Occasionally Abigail would come over while Sebastian was working and stay shut inside Maru’s room until he finished, sometimes for hours. There was an awful lot of laughing, though Sebastian couldn’t understand why.
He eventually accepted that if she and Abigail were going to be friends, Maru and Sebastian had to be a little more than civil. Not quite friends themselves, but close. So when Maru reached out, he forced himself to stop snapping back. He still didn’t like that she was so insistent on them having a good relationship, didn’t understand why she didn’t already have enough—you’re stealing my best friend and you want me, too?—but he had to let it go. He couldn’t lose Abigail. He’d die.
“Is it cool if I invite Maru with us to the saloon tonight?” Abigail asked during band practice one day.
“Sure,” Sebastian mumbled. “Oh, and Elliott gave the okay for next week.” Sebastian asked if the three of them could use his cabin to rehearse one day so they could see how their songs would sound how they were meant to, on the piano.
“Awesome.” Sam plugged his guitar into the amp with a wicked grin. “I am ready to give my mom a headache.”
Sebastian rolled his eyes.
After practice, they headed out to the saloon, an order of pizza and a round of beers already waiting for them. Sam gave Shane a cheerful wave and a smile, who returned it with a grunt.
Abigail hopped onto Journey of the Prairie King, cussing the arcade machine out while Sebastian killed Sam in pool. Elliott showed up to drink his share of the beer and wrap his arms around Sebastian’s shoulders from behind. Sebastian blushed under everyone’s stares, but couldn’t bring himself to push Elliott away. It always made Sebastian so happy when Elliott touched him, a feeling of me, he’s choosing me. He could have anyone else right now and he’s choosing me.
It was hard to push aside the dread piercing Sebastian’s stomach when Maru came through the saloon doors. He focused on the game, not meaning to ignore her but trying to act casual and, well, taking it too far.
“Hey, Sebastian.” Maru smiled.
He glanced up. “Hey.”
They stared for a moment, then Maru stepped aside to join Abigail at the machine.
“So how are things going with you?” Elliott asked, giving him space to shoot.
Sebastian bent over the table slightly with his pool cue. His tongue poked between his lips as he analyzed the set up, then moved and shot, hitting three of his balls into the holes and knocking aside two of Sam’s.
“Damnit!” Sam side. “Fuck, Seb.”
Sebastian grinned. Then he remembered Elliott’s question and it faded. “Right. Um… fine, I guess? I mean, she’s here, right?”
Elliott nodded slowly. “Right… is she still asking for your help with the robot?”
“Yeah. Every other day, pretty much.”
“Why don’t you help her?” He rested a hand on Sebastian’s shoulder.
“She doesn’t need my help,” Sebastian muttered.
“I think she does,” Elliott said gently.
Sebastian shook his head and leaned against the pool table while Sam considered his move with a snail’s pace.
“What does it matter?” Sebastian asked in frustration. “I thought you were staying out of it, remember?”
Elliott smiled nervously. “Right.”
They played a little while longer, until Sebastian won and they were all tipsy. They stumbled out the saloon doors, milling around for a second while they figured out who was going with who.
“Did you still want to see those videos of the Stardew caves?” Abigail asked, shyer than usual.
Maru nodded with a smile. “I have a good computer. Wanna spend the night?”
She nodded. “Sebastian, you coming?”
“Uh…” He glanced to Elliott, tipsy enough to allow the hope to show plainly on his face.
Elliott laughed and wrapped an arm around his waist. “You can spend the night with me. You know I never mind.”
“Well, I’m going to my own house,” Sam said, holding his hands up. “Have fun.”
Maru, Abigail, and Elliott laughed, and they all split ways. Sebastian slipped his hand into Elliott’s when they were out of sight.
Elliott smiled at him. “Want me to read to you when we get home, my dear?”
Home.
Home home home.
Sebastian nodded. “Yeah.”
Then Sebastian saw it. He looked up and Elliott was smiling softly, his brows relaxed, eyes sparkling. He was… happy to see Sebastian.
Elliott chuckled. “What?”
“Nothing,” Sebastian murmured. “Just…” He bit his lip. How could he say this? He forced the words out, “just… happy to… to be… you know, to be with- with you.”
Elliott brightened. “That is so sweet! Sebastian!” He squeezed his hand as they stepped onto the beach, kicking sand as they went. “Before we head inside, do you want to go on a walk?”
With the alcohol buzzing pleasantly in his head and the moon hanging above them, there was absolutely nothing Sebastian would rather do. He nodded.
They strolled along the sand, headed towards the tidepools on the other side of the beach. When they arrived, Elliott broke off, and Sebastian missed holding his hand but it was worth it to watch him run around the tidepools, picking up shells and holding them to the starlight. He came over to Sebastian with a small, smooth black and purple shell and held it out to him.
“Reminds me of you,” he said sheepishly, and that was it, Sebastian was in love.
He cradled it in his hands, staring up at Elliott with the widest grin.
Kiss him.
Sebastian’s grin weakened. He couldn’t do that. He could never do that. What if he read everything wrong, and Elliott didn’t like him at all? Sebastian wouldn’t survive the embarrassment—or the guilt, if Elliott didn’t feel the same but kissed him anyway to spare Sebastian’s heart.
“I had a really good time with you tonight,” Elliott said softly. He stepped closer and fit his hand into Sebastian’s. He cupped Sebastian’s face. “I always have a good time with you.”
Sebastian couldn’t speak, just smiled up at him, eyes damn near close to watering.
“I was worried, with Maru being there. You guys always have so much- so much friction, and I know it upsets you. I don’t want anything to upset you. Maru is truly trying though, and it means a lot that—”
He stopped. His face flushed, eyes widening.
“I mean…”
Sebastian frowned. “What are you talking about? What does that mean?”
“No, nothing.” He brushed Sebastian’s hair back. “It was nothing.”
Sebastian took a step back. His hands trembled. “Have you been talking to Maru?”
He hesitated. “Sebastian…”
“Have you been talking to Maru?” He asked harder. “You promised you wouldn’t meddle in my relationships.”
“I- I know. And I’m sorry. But after we started getting close, she came to me, and she was so upset, Bastian-”
Sebastian shook his head, eyes squeezed closed. The shell fell to the sand. “You promised me. Why would you… I can’t believe you’d…”
“Please don’t be upset,” he begged. He stepped closer, and Sebastian stumbled back. “I just want you to be happy.”
“That’s none of your business!” Sebastian exploded. “I told you not to get involved, it’s none of your business whether Maru and I get along or not! I can’t believe you’d- you’d-”
Fuck, now his eyes were watering. Shit. He shook his head and turned, stumbling over the tidepools.
“Sebastian! Wait!”
“Just leave me alone, Elliott!”
He stormed away.
He was grateful it was so cold, because his body was hot, sweat pin-pricking his brow. He slammed the door open to his house and stormed towards Maru’s room. He banged on the door until she answered.
“Sebastian?” Her anger faded. “What is it?”
“I can’t believe you’d talk to Elliott behind my back,” he snapped. “You’re really so desperate to have a relationship with me that you’d trick me into it?”
“Seb?” Abigail peeked over Maru’s shoulder. “What’s wrong?”
He couldn’t even get the words out anymore. Part of him knew he was overreacting, knew he’d regret this, but his stomach boiled and his chest was tight and he was so, so angry, so upset that Elliott and Maru would…
He squeezed his eyes shut.
“Sebastian, you need to breathe,” Abigail said firmly.
Her cold hands cupped his face. He blinked his teary eyes open.
“Whatever you’re mad about, it’s okay,” she soothed. “You can figure it out.”
He turned and hurried away. He barely managed to get his bedroom door shut and locked before he sank to the ground, hands trembling and body numb.
He’d never been the type to trust people. In all honesty, he probably doomed his and Demetrius’ relationship from the start. Maybe he doomed his and Elliott’s, as well.
All he knew is he didn’t trust Elliott anymore, and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to.

So what if for a motive instead of kokichi being a giant he’s shrunk and stuck with shuichi :0! ( like continuing off of the other motive writing you did -)
hiii I'm glad for this req I was hoping someone would catch my drift and ask for a sequel since I had an idea for it in mind 💃 altho I took a wittle little bit of liberty with your req I hope you don't mind
(again terribly sorry for the delay friend I hardly had any time for this hope you'll enjoy either way)
___
Word count: 1800
Summary: The game master has a new dirty trick up their sleeve to get rid of a certain little liar; but Kokichi isn't going down so easily, even with the threat of now death waiting for him at every corner.
___
It seemed the mastermind wasn’t too pleased when the motive hadn’t gotten him murdering and executed, so their next plan was to get him directly murdered.
Kokichi stands in Monokuma’s shadow, expression blank in face of the bear’s cruel cackles. It's a wonder how the mastermind can see him as a threat when he hasn't been able to stop any of the past murders, but he's still flattered that he's managed to mess with their plans enough that they'd stoop to such a low motive.
When the monochromatic bear leaves, Kokichi is left silently staring at the rest of his classmates from his spot on the cafeteria table, standing at the miserable height of a toy. Any other day, jokes and taunts and lies would be flowing out of his mouth, but his mind doesn’t come up with anything when he’s surrounded by classmates who he knows are already thinking of killing him and hiding his body to avoid a class trial; the same classmates whom he could hold in the palm of his hand only yesterday.
Silent and unmoving as he is, they must think him a scared little child; Kokichi Ouma, supreme leader of evil, reduced to some cute joke, some fanservice for an audience to coo at before he inevitably dies. The thought of the mastermind looking down on him and laughing to themselves at the moment is near sickening.
Kiibo is first to speak up, “So… What should we do about this?”
“I say,” Maki’s reply is instantaneous, like she’d been waiting to say those next words for too long, “We end this killing game right here and now.”
And when she takes a swift step forward, red eyes piercing through his tiny form with a murderous intent he’s seen too many times already, Kokichi can’t do anything but resign himself to the fact that he won’t live to stop the killing game.
Then something darts in front of him and blocks his view, and he thinks he somehow must’ve dreamed the words, “Maki, don’t hurt him.”
It takes his paranoid brain longer than he’d like to admit to realize that the hand in front of him isn’t coming to grab him and squeeze his guts out, rather, it’s shielding him. A gesture he wouldn’t expect coming from anyone in this room, except-
“You can't fall for the mastermind's trick so easily.” Shuichi stands towering in front of him in a protective stance, like some knight in shining armor; and to think this is the same boy who was cowering in his presence only days ago.
"Yeah! Harumaki, you promised, remember?" Kaito, the actual knight in shining armor of the academy, doesn't come to protect him; instead, he steps up to Maki and places a hand on her shoulder. Of course, when killer girl is trying to kill poor lil' Kokichi, it's still her who needs help and support and not the doll-sized villainous boy about to be murdered. "This has gotta be a trap or somethin'."
"Right," Shuichi joins in. He briefly glances over his shoulder at Kokichi, and the now tiny boy meets his gaze with the same blank expression. "Think about it, doesn't this new motive seem more like a way to…" his gaze lingers on Kokichi's small form for a second longer, before he tears it away, "… to get rid of a specific classmate?"
"Yeah," Kaito chimes in, "I'm starting to think the mastermind wants Kokichi dead for whatever reason," The grave expression on his face matches the morbidity of his statement. He slams his fists together in determination, "We can't let that happen."
"I do agree," Kiibo pipes up, "That if Kokichi was the enemy hiding among us, it wouldn't make sense to put himself in such… disadvantageous situation," he's hesitant and careful with his choice of word, like he could somehow be tiny-phobic.
"You're all overthinking this too much," Maki's cold gaze falls back on him, and if looks could kill, a body discovery announcement would have played out, "The killing game stops when the mastermind is dead. Simple as that."
The pressure of her stare threatens to crush him. Kokichi's legs nearly give out under his weight, and his first reaction is to stumble a few steps back and plaster a grin on his face.
“Pish posh, poor Harumaki… wants to kill me so badly, she's ready to do it in front of everyone,” His voice nearly wavers, he takes another step back for good measure. No use in trying to reason with an assassin or try to gain anyone’s sympathy; it’s always easier to stick to the role he’s written himself into.
Kokichi speaking for the first time seems to trigger the whole cafeteria to erupt in a cacophony again. Maki tries to push past Kaito and Shuichi to get her grubby hands on the little leader, and the two boys defend him (at least he thinks they do); someone yawns and someone else gasps and exclamations and accusations are thrown around.
"There has to be more to this motive!"
"You're protecting him over a maybe?"
"This is terrible, we shouldn't fight!"
"Nyeh… we still haven't had breakfast…"
They argue and bicker, like they always do when a new motive is presented and they don’t know what to make of it. Kokichi finds it easy enough to block out the obnoxious voices. He lets cold logic take over his mind and shadow his fear as he assesses the situation.
Even if he refuses, they'll probably force him to be baby-sat by someone. Staying with Maki or Miu is out of the question. Kiibo would be a good choice if Kokichi wanted the eyes of the mastermind and the audience on his back at all time, and Himiko would be a good choice if he wanted all the protection of a bodyguard who doesn't tolerate him and sleeps most of the time.
Gonta does tolerate him and has already worked with him in the past; he wouldn't be a bad choice, but for now Kokichi has a feeling he'll end up sleeping in a bug case with cockroaches if he goes with the giant entomologist, so he'll pass. Kaito superman-wannabe-Momota wouldn't be so bad either, but he'll probably take advantage of the situation and try to get the tiny boy to open up about his super evil dark past or whatever; so again, he'll pass for now.
And then there's Shuichi… Staying with his beloved detective, they could stay up late at night and braid each other's hair and share their secrets, they could make plans together and explore the school and beat the mastermind like some iconic duo, they could even pick that night's game of chess back up since Kokichi still remembered the setting of the board. Staying with Shuichi, truely a dream come true, and a dream right in his reach. But he wasn't in dreamland, he was stuck in a killing game hell where he couldn't let his facade slip and show vulnerability so easily to the protagonist of their game. His eyes fall to the floor with the shame of entertaining such a dream before remembering the sobering reality. Staying with Shuichi is out the question.
Kokichi goes back to listening to the conversarion, but he finds the room silent and eight pairs of eyes on him.
“Kokichi,” Shuichi speaks again. The boy is tempted to look away, but he forces his eyes to meet the giant detective's faded gold ones, “you can stay with me if you want?"
A taunting smirk pushes its way to his face. “Man, Saihara wants to get a hold of me so he can do all kindsa weird stuff to me? Ew ew ew, so gross, I'm so terrified! How could you do this to a frightened little boy?”
“Kokichi,” he considers the exasperation in the detective’s tone a victory to him, although an unpleasant one, “You don’t need to be so obnoxious, if there’s someone you want to stay with, you can say it.” Sheesh, wasn't Shuichi dying to talk to him the other night?
His best option isn’t ideal, but he can't get too picky in his current situation. “Welll, I think I’d like to stay with big sis Shirogane!” he hears the girl in question sputter a noise of surprise, and all eyes turn to her.
“What are you planning?” Maki speaks again after a long silence, voice betraying her skepticism.
“Oh, are you jealous I didn’t pick you, big sis Harumaki?” Do you want to die?
“Do you want to die?” Bingo. Too predictable.
“Uhm,” Tsumugi’s meek voice cuts him off before he can retort, “Why me? I-I mean, I don’t mind, I just don’t understand?”
Kokichi turns to her, and she nearly flinches at his attention. At least there’s one person in the room who’s still intimidated by him. “I just wanted to stay with my absolute favourite girl in this academy," as he says that, he walks around Shuichi's still outstretched hand to better face the absolute favourite girl in question, shooting on his way a quick glance up the detective, "aaand there's also this one cosplay I really wanna try now that I'm cutie-sized. That is, if Shirogane is fine with it?"
Tsumugi looks down to her feet and starts to vibrate with excitement hard enough that he can feel it under his feet. "O-Oh, I am fine with it. I wonder if we're both thinking of the same anime… but the only male character there has a dark skin tone, and there's one girl that really looks like you… You don't mind wearing a dress, do you?" She's already walking up to him with an outstretched hand, as if driven by the by the force of her love of cosplay.
Kokichi blinks his fear away and steps into the unsteady surface, immediately understanding the fear and discomfort in Shuichi's face that last night. Questions and accusations are still coming at him left and right, but he pointedly ignores it all and waves back to his remaining classmates with his cockiest smile as he leaves in the giant girl's hand, mind already buzzing with plans to survive the new motive.

Nothing to worry about
After many, many attempts to decode the data to find Sora, Riku was spent. A thought came to him that maybe if he messed with data with the difficulties all the way up, then something might change. It had to be his third day screwing up on the same attacks over and over again. He didn’t remember fighting the organization to be this hard! Riku was a prideful guy that managed to beat most of them but enough was enough! He had been stuck on one obstacle for far too long and his hands hurt from hitting the wall the one time he rage quit. It was time to bring in backup, and he knew just the people…
Xion:You want me to want?
Riku:Beat data Xion for me. You’re too strong.
Roxas:It’s a computer…
Axel:Dude, you don’t get to say that when you smash computers instead of pressing keys.
Saix:You What?
Riku:Focus!!! I called you specifically because you’ve fought Xion, fought Sora, and some of you have done both while technically being connected to Sora; so you know how to play him well.
Axel:I feel like you’re missing people.
Riku:People are busy. You are the only ones that are still around a lot.
Xion:Am I really that tough?
Riku:Painfully.
Xion:Hmmm. I’m not sure how I feel about fighting myself. Something about it feels...depressing.
Axel:I’ll do it. I’m great at games! Plus we’ve fought a bunch of times! I know your moves.
Xion:But you lost…
Axel:Still learned them! *sits down* Watch the master!
That was the statement he made. It’s been three hours since Axel had that confidence. Now he was face down on the bed in the committee room along with Riku. If he heard “why do you fight” one more time, he’d lose his mind.
Axel:Since when do you bounce around like a ball of light!?
Roxas:Why are you surprised? I do it all the time.
Axel:I don’t even understand how you do it!!!
Saix:I can’t believe you didn’t even get half health.
Axel:Think you can do better!?
Saix:Nope, but I won’t act like I can to look cool. Xion, I’ve never seen you do half of the things that program does. Is it an exaggeration or…?
Xion:No, it’s possible. Doing all of that just makes me tired.
Saix:...(I never stood a chance in that graveyard. Then again I try not to go full berserk for the same reason.)
Roxas:My turn! I’m not exactly thrilled about fighting any version of you but helping Sora is the goal here. I just hope Cid didn’t program all of your armors. Not a big fan of the second one or you being the size of the central station tower.
Xion:*red* Hehehe...yeah that was pretty wild.
RAS:You can do what…?”
The change of players was getting better results. Roxas was in his third attempt when he started getting a good rhythm. Watching Axel helped, but there was something else. A weird six sense. Riku was right about him controlling Sora, it felt natural. Battling data Xion was the same. The way he predicted her movements were scarily good.
Axel:Wow, look at you go.
Roxas:Sssshhh, I need focus. I wanna do this as fast as possible. It might be data but hurting Xion feels wrong.
Xion:*red* Roxas…
The man makes it to the desperation move. It’s the second time he’s made it here and he wished data Xion had the armors instead! He didn’t last long before another game over screen. Everyone groaned while Roxas rested his head on the wooden desk.
Roxas:Gah! I can’t even begin to understand those patterns. Your columns of light move way too wildly!
Riku:I hate the fact that if you recover from a strike raid then the next one is delayed to change your rhythm! Why are you so smart Xion?
Xion:Sora does that too. It’s how to survive relentless attacks sometimes. I’ve told you all the timing so-
Roxas:Xion, I really don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable, but you might as well grab the controller. The only person who knows you, is you.
Xion:And Ven, and Namine, you, Sora, Kai- fine I’ll give it a try!
Riku:Thank you.
Xion died immediately going into the fight. All eyes looked at her in disbelief as her face got red.
Xion:I wasn’t ready! Let me get a few warm up rounds in! I have never done anything like this. Roxas, can you go back to Twilight Town and get a small white bag in the usual spot?
Roxas:Okay.
A few warm up rounds turned into a dozen. Riku even saw her scroll through the settings once or twice. Then she wouldn’t do the fight right away. Instead she’d press bottoms to see how Sora reacted and fast. He didn’t want to be antsy but a piece of him wanted to try again. Riku went over to ask when Roxas came through the door to hand her the bag. Xion ran the program again. She reached in the bag as it loaded and pulled out something Riku didn’t know she still had. Her organization gloves.
Riku:You kept those?
Xion:Gripping a keyblade barehanded feels weird. So does messing with computers…
Data Xion:Why do you f-
Xion:Yeah we know the line…
Riku never considered himself good at things like video games or computers, but he didn’t think he was bad either. That was until he watched Xion start moving her fingers faster than he could keep track off. The whole room was silent except for the sound of clicking. Data Sora was moving at speeds and performing tricks Riku and the others didn’t even know about. He wasn’t getting hit at all!!! Axel could quietly hear Xion mumble numbers. A set amount when she attacked, and then a different set when the data version did. The sets kept resting and ending differently depending on what weapon she used or magic. He couldn’t make heads or tails of it.
Axel:H-How?
Xion:How what?
Roxas:How are you doing this!?
Xion:Like you and Riku said. I know me, as well as Sora. I’m only gonna get hit so many times before I find a chance to counter. Also, there’s only so many moves you can program. It’s still just code!
She made it sound so easy, yet Riku. Can only think about how many times late last night he couldn’t figure out a single time to appropriately heal or attack. Yet here Xion is, perfect blocking and interrupting the desperation move. She even found time to take a picture before delivering the final blow!
Xion:Boom! Easy!
Riku:FINALLY!
Saix:You really should’ve gone first.
Xion:But it was thanks to you guys that I was able to watch and learn without stressing out. It was a group effort. I guess we’re done here. Thanks Riku, that was kinda fun. *stands up*
Riku:Ummm haven’t beaten master Xehanort either. Do you think maybe….
Xion:*Sits down* You owe one for this.
Riku:I know a good spot to find the best seashells.
Xion:Deal!
The crew let her get to work on the baldy while they occupied their time. Half an hour passed before they sat around a table eating. Riku looked over to see Xion learning how to deal with every move possible. It looked impossible. Most of the organization did. Another game over screen appeared and Riku sighed.
Axel:You alright champ?
Riku:It might be data, but seeing Sora lose is depressing. I hope he’s alright.
Roxas:Why wouldn’t he be?
Riku:He’s not the luckiest guy. Danger might as well be a spell when it comes to Sora. All of these data fights made me realize just how dangerous the organization really was. The thought of him running into something or someone as dangerous as that alone doesn’t sit well with me.
Everyone:......
Roxas:You know Riku, you can be pretty dumb sometimes.
Riku:Huh!?
Xion:Roxas!
Roxas:What!? All I’m saying is you would think after seeing a program based off of him successfully beat crazy strong people like Xion that you’d have the most faith in his skills. I mean who else do you know has enough different moves to handle so many kinds of fighters?
Riku:....Heh, thanks Roxas.
Roxas:*red* Yeah whatever. Just stating the obvious.
Axel:Yeah! Sora’s alright. I mean he was able to beat me after all.
Saix: If that’s the bar then maybe we should worry.
Axel:Hey!
Xion:I mean we did tie when I was tired.
Roxas:I beat you with amnesia.
Riku:Sora did too.
Axel:Who’s side are you on! This is the thanks I get for trying to cheer you up? Cut me some slack.
The friends shared a good laugh teasing Axel. Even he couldn’t help but join in on it. Riku should know better than anybody just how capable Sora is.
(Wherever you are, I’m sure you’re just fine.)
xxxx
Fine was the appropriate word to describe it. If a Riku or the others used anything more positive then they surely would’ve bit their tongue. If only they could see their friend right now, dodging and struggling on a rooftop under a starry sky dome. A swarm of gigas closed in on our young hero to overwhelm him, but to avail. Sora whipped out a storm flag and slammed it on the ground to summon the watery beast of the seven seas. It’s tentacles whacked away and crushed the gigas flat. Now wasn’t a time to rest though. Yozora, his opponent, wasn’t done yet. Sora saw rapid flashes of red lock in on him and switched to the counter shield.
He hyped himself “Come on!” Spurs shouted. The first attack came from the left, then right. Four more were dead on before another six ferocious slashes came from the left. Collision after collision conjured sparks that lit up the impacts of each attack. Yozora finally thought he had an opening to stab from behind but was sorely mistaken when Sora had already pivoted already and unleashed a barrage of fists that knocked Yazora in the air. Sora leaped up to follow up with a change into the second form. “Get back here!” He pulled his opponent back in with a magnet burst then went right into an ars arcanum. Blades clashed faster than anyone could keep up with before Sora’s ferocity gave him an edge that turned into full blown hits that ended with him spiking Yozora to the ground. As he fell, Sora was shot in the back by a laser that sent him to the metal floor behind. He had no time to dodge the cross slash that connected against his chest. He watched Yozora vanish and switched right into ultimate form to do the same.
This disappearing and reappearing act made their sparks seem more like fireworks. Crackles and pops
Danced up and down the battlefield as each person kept attempting to warp for both offense and defense until Yozora got the better of Sora by trapping in an exploding prism that launched Sora sky high. Yozora finally had room to breath and could plant fis feet long enough to charge his blade. He watched his target recover mid air and unless a salvo of fireballs with double arrow guns. A good idea if it wasn’t so far away that is. “Sorry but-huh!?” A blue light washed over Sora and propelled him directly at Yozora with his attack. Yozora was quick enough to slash Sora away but decided to pull back by backflipping the fireballs; a big mistake. He had underestimated Sora’s speed. Before he could even reach the ground, Sora was already in front of him again. This time with a massive rocket propelled hammer that hit him in the direction of the fireballs. The magic projectiles curved midair to hope in on his location and blasted him right in the chin. This was bad, really bad. To think he’d have this much trouble with someone who looked so clueless moments ago. He had to switch things up and vanished again.
Sora switched to nano arms and stood perfectly still. “Three….four….” he pulled a barrier right as a glimmer of red formed into Yazora that blasted some strange wide shots from his crossbow before vanishing again. Sora turned the machines into yo-yos next and swung straight. “There!” Yozora appeared right as expected and hit dead on. Sora pulled himself to wards and shifted to his frozen blades for additional slashes.
“You’re Just full of surprises aren’t you!?” Yozora grimaced.
“Don’t Give me that look! I didn’t want to fight!” Sora went for a kick but was too slow. Yozora managed to warp behind Sora and summoned a massive red orb that started pulling everything into it.
“Let’s see how you dodge this one.” Yozora turned up the pressure and started warping as fast as possible at Sora again and again, cutting and slashing him cleanly to knock him off balance until Yozora delivered one more powerful slash across his body that sent Sora flying into the orb. He quickly up to it and glided his blade along it to trigger a massive explosion that made Sora scream. Smoke and fire filled the air for a moment. That was a move not even Yozora himself was too good at avoiding. Nobody was gonna get it right from the jump.
Finally, the battle was over. It was longer than expected but the end result was the same. “Sorry, but I don’t lose-” Another shockwave from the explosion accorded suddenly and dispersed the smoke. That’s never happened before. Yozora shielded his eyes and scanned the ground, no Sora. Just black puddles. He dared not walk closer to them when they started to increase in size until a bigger one formed near his feet and Sora hopped out with glowing eyes and drenched in darkness. “This guy…” Yozora mistakenly readied a block for the keyblade as was then punched by Sora’s free hand, throwing him off and into a world of rageful attacks he had no choice but to receive. Sora was fast, too fast. The patterns seemed random. It was impossible to know what to look out for with the addition of kicks thrown in as Sora instinctively warp in numerous spots to bat Yazora around. Any attempt to escape the loop was met with a primal roar that kept the loop going until one final monstrous attack came. Sora went right through Yozora and into the ground. Strange black orbs rose up from bigger pools of black from earlier and detonated repeatedly, leaving Yozora no room to escape.
What was once a dark night turned into blinding light as Sora once again appeared above Yozora’s falling body in a new form; and with two blades. It was hard for him to understand what happened next. All he could see was light and feel the pain it inflicted everywhere as pillars of them struck down around Sora, who remained airborne and glowing. A look of pure grit on his face as he shouted.
“I guess...my power isn’t needed after all.”
xxxx
Xion:I beat him! But...I don’t think there’s anything here that might help. Sorry Riku. I know you wanna find him as soon as possible.
Riku:Hmmm, that’s alright. *smiles* Wherever he is...I’m sure he’s doing just fine.

Literally so happy I found your blog 😭😍 you’re such an eloquent writer and you seem so chill!! Love your content and your personality 🤍🤍🤍 If you still have the time, can you write more poly stuff? 😗😗😗 preferably with Kuroo and Bokuto after the same girl.. I just imagine them as besties in their respective careers in their 20s, in their sexual prime(slight fuckboys lol), and then BAM. Reader who’s a bad bihh comes in and effs up their life and they now have to share 🤤🤤🤤
oh my gosh this ask has all of my favorite things in one omfg i’M SCREAMING. eloquent though, at the moment, makes me chuckle because I’ve wrote the word COCK like a hundred times today. Not that I’m complaining 😏
I am ALWAYS down for more threesomes/poly requests! Especially with these two clowns, oof lemme at em.
Surprisingly, this one is NOT nsfw. This ones more on the sweet side, if there is a sweet side to fuck boys?
Tumblr media
It was such a cliche—two roommates just hanging out at the bar looking for a target for the evening. Not that it bothered either of them, really, but considering they frequented this place so much, Bokuto and Kuroo have nearly fucked everyone in this goddamn bar.
Shit was getting old.
Sure, old hookups came and said hi, trying to hopefully get lucky for the evening, but they were both just looking for something fresh. Maybe they had come too early, Kuroo wonders, only seeing a few faces he didn’t recognize. “Need another?” An unfamiliar voice causes the former Nekoma captain to direct his attention towards the bartender standing before the two of them.
Fresh blood, he notes, as you put your weight on your palms that are resting on the bar top.
“Never seen you here before!” Bokuto chirps brightly first, dazzling smile and all as he pushes his empty beer bottle towards her before making a side-eyed glance. His telepathic link to his best friend beside him tells him one thing—he’s gonna go for her.
“I’m actually the morning bartender. I’m just filling in for someone.” Your tone is thoughtful as you grab another local craft bottle for the silver haired man that spoke. Reaching for the bottle opener secured to your forearm with a wristband, you snap the cap off. “Name’s [name], nice to meet ya.”
“Bokuto Koutarou.” The silver haired one replies before taking a swig off the IPA.
“Kuroo Tetsurou.” Comes from the messy, raven haired man beside him. “And I’ll take a round of shots—walker, blue label.” Ritzy, you muse. They must have been celebrating something. You grab two shot glasses before reaching for the top shelf for the bottle of Johnny Walker. “A round, sweetheart. One for you too.”
“I like you guys already.” You joke, grabbing one more glass and pouring shots for the three of you. “Cheers!” The men before you hold their own respective glasses, clinking them to each other as they touched and downing the whisky.
“To the start of a beautiful friendship.” Kuroo declares as he sets his glass down on the makeshift granite.
A beautiful friendship indeed.
Being around Kuroo and Bokuto was so easy. Especially after six months of casual hangouts. They were fun and lively, a little dorky in their own ways, but you often found yourself in their company in your free time. Sometimes, you’d just hang out with them in their apartment playing video games and watching movies. Other nights, the three of you would venture out to either end up at some sort of club or karaoke bar together. You fit right in with them when you learned they were often on the prowl for the best hookup because you were in dire need of the same.
Tonight was a night the three of you were out at a club—the music overtaking your own heartbeat as you’re sandwiched between your two friends and your inhibitions left at the door. Unbeknownst to you, the two of them are toying with their psychic connection once again, silently asking the other if they today was going to be the day.
The current remix ends, a mute signal for Kuroo to flee to grab the three of you your next around of drinks. Meanwhile, Bokuto takes the opportunity to anchor his hands on your hips, grinding your ass against his pelvis while his lips graze your sensitive neck. His tongue grazes along the shell of your ear and you can hear the way his breath is thick with lust, even as Kuroo returns.
Shame floods your body because there’s no reason your friend should ever see his roommate holding you the way he is. But rather than any reaction at all, he hands Bokuto his own beverage. Over the music, you can hear Kuroo as he leans in towards the both of you. “You gonna share, or what?” Bokuto only grins before allowing his teeth to graze along your pulse in your neck before handing you off to Kuroo as if you were some toy. “Have you figured it out, princess?”
What the fuck?
Your eyes snap towards the raven-haired man who has one set of fingers digging into your bare midriff while his hazel eyes fuse with a darker hue. He can see the confusion in your face, even more so when you look at Bokuto who’s only grinning like an idiot. “Come on, man we should tell her.” Though his voice is thoughtful, even over the resonating thrum of the bass in the club, you can hear Bokuto clear as day.
“Tell me what?”
“We want to fuck you.” Kuroo’s voice is so cocky, it’s almost a little neauseating. If nauseating were synonymous with ‘domineeringly attractive’, then yes, definitely nauseating.
“I mean, we kinda want more than that,” Bokuto adds sheepishly.
“I don’t feel like this is the place to talk about all this, man.” Your mind is in a whirldwind and you’re unsure if it’s from the alcohol or the fact that your two friends you’d met half a year ago are proposing...something? What the fuck was happening? Kuroo slams the rest of his beer, encouraging the both of you to chug as well. Following suit, you’re tugged along towards the exit until the pounding music is a faint murmur in the background.
“This is a joke, right? There’s no way—“
“We’re dead serious,” Kuroo interrupts, “we’ve been arguing for months over who gets to hook up with you and we never reached an agreement so we settled with just offering both of us.”
“Did you maybe think to fucking ask me?” You snarl, yet both of them out a huff of air that’s a cross between a laugh and a scoff.
“Would you really deny either of us?” Kuroo asks seriously.
“Let alone both of us?” The finishing each other’s sentences business was a little off putting. But they were right. Being with them was so natural, so easy—there was no way you would ever willingly ditch these fragments of friendship. And you would be lying to yourself if you said you had never entertained the thought.
“Just this once.” You mumble out.
That was three years ago. Three years ago this very day that you, Kuroo, and Bokuto slept together for the first time, inadvertently consummating your three-way relationship. And now, the three of you lay in the massive bed you all shared, completely bare with only a three blanket covering you while Bokuto basked in being embraced from both sides.
Yes, Bokuto has to be in the middle.
“Happy anniversary, guys!” Your little sunshine of an owl chirps, wrapping his brawny arms over both you and Kuroo.
“How the hell did you guys trick me into this?” You mumble out bitterly, albeit jokingly, as your nude body slips out of bed to get dressed and make up breakfast.
“Aw, come on babe. You love us.”
“Pfft, right.” You stick out your tongue towards Kuroo who was grinning slyly at you. “I’m breaking up with both of you right now.”
“You really wanna play coy this morning, kitten? You know what happens when you tease us.”
“Remind me, Tetsurou.”
The flirty drip that leaves your lips prompts the boys to chase you around the apartment before you can get dress. Needless to say, they manage to catch you with ease, laughing as they did so before showering your body with bruises and love bites like they so often did.
What a beautiful friendship indeed.

who are you? pt. 4 (reggie x reader)
pairing: reggie x reader
word count: 4.4k
plot: you dream about reggie constantly and when you see him perfoming with julie, you decide to ask her about him
warnings: confusion? EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE THOUGH, I PROMISE
A/N: look who is back :) I wanna thank @i-should-be-writing-my-own-fic for being so sweet to me and giving me such a thoughtful feedback about the story. that gave me the motivation I needed to keep writing - so keep in mind that comments help the writer, ok? just hope I’m not disappointing anyone with this chapter by the way… and sorry again for taking forever to update.
here's chapter 1, chapter 2 and chapter 3
it’s @carolineeforbes' gif, by the way; I’m not sure how to add that “gif by…” at the end (cause I’m old and I know nothing about html)
Tumblr media
As soon as the last class of the day ends, I make my way to Julie's locker so we can go to the cafe together. I haven't seen Reggie all day, but something tells me he's just as nervous as I am. Waiting for her, alone, I let my mind go to him, remembering his sweet smile.
There's something about him that gives me peace. It's not explainable or rational; it's just there. An invisible feeling that makes me ecstatic, blissful because he exists. And if that's not love, if it's something else, I can accept and live with it knowing that he taught me how to feel visible, alive.
Ironically, he is none of those things.
  - Y/N, hi! - Nick's voice greets me. - How are you?
Nick is alone too. His blue eyes are darker than usual and his aura makes me shiver - more so than yesterday, his presence is heavy and disturbing. And I can't understand why. His clothes are darker than usual and even his cute freckles look more aggressive, if that's possible.
Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me, but I can almost swear I see the own devil in the smile on his face. His whole body looks stiffer and more brutal, making me step back mindlessly and look around for somebody that could confirm that his eyes are actually trying to hurt me.
I'm out of my mind, for sure.
  - Hey, Nick. - I say. My voice is breathy and low, matching my demeanor. - I'm alright. How about you?
I don't really wanna know about him and it's borderline annoying how my body is responding to the situation. My hands are shaking so much I have to hide them in my pockets. When my eyes start watering, I understand just how terrible the situation really is.
  - Why are you so afraid of me, hum? - There's an eerie glow in his eyes that can only be described as demonic. Nick is following my every move, almost like he is trying to control my actions or read my mind. When he gets closer to me and lets his thumb meet my right cheek, a single tear rolls down, to what he smiles. He's enjoying the situation. - It's just me.
It's not him. It's not Nick.
I don't know what is going on, but this person is evil.
I can smell Nick's breath and see it too. It's purple and dense and I'm for sure out of my mind, because I can see it all around us as if trying to suffocate me.
The purple mist swirls around my head and vanishes quickly while my tears dry. Nick's smile disappears and his stare holds something heavy like betrayal. He looks disappointed, annoyed, angry, all together.
  - I can't believe this. - He murmurs, stepping back. The boy is imitating a lost puppy or a spoiled kid that isn't getting what he wants. - Your soul is…
Nick looks so shocked and that gives me strength. The sudden vigor allows me to break our eye contact and recompose myself, just in time to blink and get an image in my head like a daydream. But it wasn't a dream or my imagination; it feels like a memory, just like what I experience with Reggie.
I see a big stage. The curtains are embroidered with CC's and everything is either black or gold. There's a tall man standing in the center, with the same aura as Nick, and the same expressive eyes. He's screaming for attention and validation.
The man is wearing a velvet suit and sparkly shoes. I can tell he's narcissistic and have some kind of power over people, because nobody around the place is looking directly at him. They all look scared and conflicted; probably because he demands attention but makes them feel bad about it.
Someone opens the curtain a little bit more and I can see a big glass box filled with water. Three assistants wrap his hands and feet with chains and when he sees me staring, a devious grin spreads across his face, making me shiver and get an urge to run.
I manage to do that, going back to the school halls in real life, ignoring all that happened in my mind just seconds before.
Nick is nowhere to be seen and my body is not shaking anymore.
  - Hey, Y/N. - Julie says. Flynn smiles at me and I try my best to do the same, but I'm still overwhelmed by the feeling of being controlled. - Are you alright? Not to be that person, but you look like you've seen a ghost.
Flynn laughs while her friend winks at me, lighting up the mood. Still, I can't wrap my head around what just happened. I feel sick to my stomach, dizzy and they probably can see it in my face that I'm not fine.
  - Don't know if Reggie said anything to you, but they talked and Alex doesn't feel ready to go to the coffee shop yet. He's afraid that they're going to move on and disappear and he's not sure if that's what he wants now. - She explains. Flynn nods her head the whole time, agreeing with everything Julie says and making me wonder how much she knows. Probably everything. - But, really, are you feeling ok?
  - I think I just need to go home and sleep a bit. - After trying my best to assure them I'll be fine, I start making my way to the parking lot. We're not the best of friends, so I don't feel comfortable explaining anything, especially when Reggie's nowhere to be seen. - I'll see you tomorrow, ok?
I can't find my sister's car when I get to our usual spot, so I just stand there, calming my senses and looking at the sky. It's a beautiful day with a few clouds and it's impossible not to find solace in the pretty blue infinity.
The clouds are moving in all its glory. The cumulus clouds are very fluffy and not very high in the sky, letting me notice their cotton-like appearance distinctly. It's so peaceful that I can't stop my mind from wandering to Reggie and that same feeling of harmony and happiness that he makes me feel.
  - Julie told me you were not feeling well. - The boy startles me, making me jump and almost scream. - Did you fall? Did you eat something bad? Maybe you should go to the hospital. I should know that considering I died from a bad hot dog. What did you have?
His wide eyes and fast words make me laugh, forgetting everything that happened previously. He tries to touch my hand and signs when that doesn't happen. I do the same, regretting momentarily the day I met him.
I know I love Reggie. That feeling, however, is like getting tickled and laughing out loud. For someone just passing by, it might look like we're having fun, but it's also painful and excruciating. A smile doesn't necessarily means joy; sometimes it's just a mechanism to stay positive. And positivity is very important when the person you love is a ghost.
  - I'm alright now, don't worry. - In cue, Daisy arrives. - Wanna go home with me? - I ask, covering my mouth with my hand, pretending to yawn. He follows me without answering and the way Day looks at me as soon as I get inside tells me that she believes her little sister is simply happy with the tickling. - Hey.
  - Well, well, well. Look who is in love.
Reggie sits in the backseat and it's inevitable to feel nervous. It doesn't really matter that Day can't see him; the only important thing is that we haven't talked about feelings yet and now he knows how I feel.
He knows what I feel: love.
Suddenly I am drowning in dichotomy, a bipolar feeling of relief and nervousness.
I am relieved that the "decision" is no longer in my hands.
It's like that child's game, hot potato. The ball would pass in a circle and if the song ends and you are holding the object, the responsibility to run after someone is in your hands. Every time I held the ball as a kid, I felt excitement, anxiety and nervousness and yet I still enjoyed playing the game, even with the risk of losing.
Reggie knowing how I feel is basically that same feeling of not knowing whether I would have to run or be disappointed and relieved at the same time for not being chosen. The next step is his to take; to either stop the music or continue singing.
  - Sis? - Daisy's voice brings me back to the car and all the consequences. - Are you ok?
  - Yeah, yeah. Just a bit nervous about some school stuff.
I met Reggie in school, so it's not exactly a lie. Josh's voice rings in my head saying "I ain't calling you a truther" and making me wish I could tell everybody about how I met Reginald and how much I like him.
  - We went from love interest to school project. Y/N, we really need to talk. - Reggie's remarks make me roll my eyes. - What am I to you? And you don't need to be nervous, darling. It's just me.
  It's just me.
Same words that left Nick's lips.
I feel shivers running down my spine, remembering everything. His gaze, the strong perfume and my own thoughts all over the place. What about my soul? What about me that scared him so much? And that stage? The magician?
Too many questions for someone that just wanted a few answers.
  - Reggie, please, we'll talk later.
  Oh, no.
Daisy is looking at me like I am crazy and she's possibly right. There's no way I am not losing my mind by now.
  - Who is Reggie?
  Oh, no.
  - Reggie?
  - Yeah, you just said his name. Is this part of your school thingy? - She bounces like a little kid, making me breathe normally. She's not about to ask if I lost my mind, great. - Practicing some of those insanely creative theatre games? How does this one work?
  Oh, yes.
  - I have to create this character, right? - Reggie scoots closer to listen to my explanation, sitting on the edge of the seat. I can see him through the rearview mirror and he has a curious expression on his face. A very cute expression that makes me smile. - For the whole day I have to talk to him, Reggie, like he really exists. - Daisy beams and that gives me courage to continue. - I get extra points if I get to make somebody else speak and interact with him, so do you wanna try?
  I really ain't a truther.
The thing with my family is that they are incredibly supportive, especially Daisy and my dad. My sister's bad temper is not even half as intense as her supportive-big-sister-mode. Probably because of that that I don't have many friends - because it is very easy to get lost in my family's love. They make me feel like I don't really need other people, like nobody else would be as important as them, so why try? I've always had friends here and there, but opening up and trusting is a whole different story.
Maybe that's why Reggie had such an impact on me; because he made me realize that the world is bigger than my little bubble, than what meets the eye.
  - I need to know a little more about this Reggie dude. Characteristics, please.
  - Reggie, what do you want me to tell her? - I look at him, turning my head to face his way and the view makes my heart melt: he's staring at us with thankful eyes.
The boy is on the verge of tears. Happy tears, apparently. It feels so heartwarming to see his big white smile and his freckles from up close.
  - I… I don't know. What do you want her to know about me?
  - Well, Day is more than just my sister. - I reply while Daisy just smiles, keeping her attention on the road. - She's my best friend, so I'd like her to know everything about you. I know she'll like you anyways cause you're both sweethearts. You two like Star Wars and she says she hates puns, but that's a lie. And you're always making jokes and being adorable, so that's a start, right? You'll get along just fine.
  - What about appearance-wise? Is he cute? - My sister's question has Reggie laughing and blushing. Their interaction is so cute and the tears on Reggie's eyes say the same.
  - He has deep blue eyes, a pointy nose and some freckles that look like the galaxy. For all I know he could have the whole bear keeper constellation on his face, I swear. - The way he observes me speaking foolishly about him is encouraging and sweet. He seems to be admiring me too, intrigued by the way I describe his features.
  - Bear keeper constellation, hum? He should watch out for poisoning then.
My sister giggles scares the hell out of me and by Reggie's silence and wide eyes, he's panicking too.
  - What? - I mumble.
  - Icarius? The wine story? - She tries explaining, but seeing my confused semblance, she continues. - Icarius died because some people thought he poisoned them with wine. They didn't understand alcohol back then and well, he died for nothing. Poor guy. After all, a god really did trust him with the wonders of wine because he was such a great person and he basically died for that. For being too good. - She shrugs like it's nothing, like I am not surprised and startled by the coincidence. I never heard that story in my life. - But what else? I wanna know more about him.
Reggie shakes his head and closes his mouth, blinking a few times in the process. I take my time to study him once again, ignoring my own surprise.
  - He's funny, positive, loves animals and can be a bit of an airhead, but that's cause he's very creative and imaginative. He is a bassist, likes flirting and I'd say he uses jokes as a way to cope with sadness.
I can't look at him while saying those things, so I fix my posture and stare at the car in front of us. It's too personal and I don't know how he truly feels about me and the way I read him. After all, I officially met him yesterday and every single dream could be wrong. My version of him could be wrong.
I could only hope I was right and he would keep singing in that silent game of hot potato.
  - The only important question left is: what's his Harry Potter house?
And that's how we spend the rest of the day watching Harry Potter, with Reggie sitting beside me with his eyes glued to the tv screen. When Chamber of Secrets ends, my parents get home and Day quickly explains that we'll be having company for dinner. Reggie doesn't leave my side for a second and even though I could speak to him when my sister was around, my parents might think differently, so I don't really hold my breath.
  - We have company for dinner, dad. - Daisy says.
  - Oh, really? - My dad asks. He's already in the kitchen, so we follow him there. Reggie sits on the counter while Day helps with the food and I just stand by the door, looking at my family. - Who is coming?
Daisy does something funny with her eyebrows, teasing me, and I roll my eyes, because that's very rich coming from her. Reggie is silent, just studying our reactions and conversations, so I decide to imitate him, sitting by his side. I want him to feel included in the family, like he belongs there, like he is welcome in our house.
  - Dad, this is my friend Reginald, but you can call him Reggie. - I say, pointing at the boy next to me. I know they can't see him; it would be impossible considering he is dead. Reggie's eyes, however, beg for love and appreciation, so I don't mind making a fool of myself if that means I get to make him feel comfortable. - He'll be eating dinner with us tonight, if that's alright.
  - Well, sure. - My father answers, with a smile on his face and no second thoughts whatsoever. - We're happy to have you here, Reggie.
Daisy winks at me and Reggie is astonished with my dad's answer, especially because he really is looking and speaking in his direction, to the place I pointed. That probably makes him feel alive, but I don't really have time to say anything else because soon enough my dad walks up to him and goes for a handshake. My dad doesn't wait for Reggie's hand to shake it, but the boy doesn't mind and lets his transparent skin go through my dad's solid body, trying any kind of connection he can.
  - Cold hands, hum? But are you really just friends with my daughter? Cause I don't recall any friends staying for dinner before.
It's not really a surprise that my father would participate in any kind of experiment, project or whatever he thinks this is; his trust and love for me are the only irrational part of him and he is very good at that - trusting me with his eyes closed. As Daisy explains everything to him, his tired figure just keeps cooking dinner and making a few questions here and there. He starts with the basic "how was your day?" and moves on to "bassist that loves country music? That's new. I would like to listen to your music, Reggie".
He's not weirded out by the situation and that makes me wonder if I should tell him the truth. Or at least half of it. Maybe he wouldn't understand everything, but at least I'd feel lighter. When he starts telling us the positive stories that he's seen in the hospital today, Reggie interrupts his monologue by leaving the kitchen, so I follow him.
  - What's wrong? - I ask, indicating my room. He goes in and I close the door. - Is everything okay?
He doesn't answer for a moment. He just stands there, looking out the window. His torso is covered in the same black leather jacket that I've seen so many times before in my dreams and his hair looks perfect. He looks perfect. Even when he sniffs and starts crying.
He looks perfect and I'm freaking out.
  - I am so sorry for today, Reggie. It was never my intention to make you feel bad, I swear. That doesn't mean you shouldn't feel whatever you're feeling; I'm just justifying myself really. - I start mumbling, letting the words come out of my mouth with no filter. - You don't have to stay, if you don't want to. You can leave and we can talk tomorrow... I don't know.
He's not singing in our game of hot potato. Reggie's sad and it's painful to see him like that, crying, perhaps even regretful. After the heavy day, I can't stop myself from crying too, feeling unwanted, wrong.
  My heart hurts.
My heart hurts for him, almost like we share the same body.
  - I forgot how much I missed being alive. - He says, letting his fingers roam his cheeks, cleaning any signs of tears. - It's not just about dying young, you know? It's like ordering a pizza that you know will never arrive, but you still don't order another one. You just keep waiting and waiting. And you can almost taste it; the cheese, the smell, the love in the shape of pepperoni… but it's still not enough. Being a ghost is not enough for me, Y/N. I need to make my own pizza or order something else.
A glimpse of determination in Reggie's eyes makes me feel uneasy. If Alex said he didn't want to find out, "ordering something else" is off limits. Going alone to the cafe looking for answers could mess their friendship and hurt all of them even more.
  - Are you sure you can't wait a little bit more? We can wait together, if it helps. - My reasoning is not the best in the world; I am basically bargaining more time with him. - We can finish Harry Potter, I can show you some music. And, of course, you still have Julie and your friends, right? Maybe the pizza will arrive, Reggie. Have a little faith.
He opens his mouth a few times, trying to say something, but nothing comes out. He shrugs and turns around, staring at the window again. Outside, the weather is the same and everything looks peaceful. But inside of him, things are different. His world is not the same as it was when he entered my house.
  He wants answers now.
  - What kind of music do you wanna show me?
His smile is not reaching his eyes, but I take whatever I can get, grabbing my phone quickly and playing Taylor Swift. He falls in love with her banjo songs, like I knew he would, and then shows me some of his favorite musicians. We talk about movies and he's impressed to know that Back To The Future is a classic, considering that none of his friends liked it back then.
It's so easy to talk to him. His overflowing attention and care is noticeable and heartwarming. It's not like he's just answering me, no, he's making conversation, showing interest and curiosity about me, about the things I like. And I do the same with him, because I wanna know everything there is to know, everything he wants me to know and love.
With him so close to me it's very easy to forget he's not alive.
  - You know what I was thinking? - He asks with his face so close to mine that I can even count his freckles.
  - No. - I whisper and he chuckles. - What is it?
  - I really wish they could see me. Your family. They are so nice. I really wish my unfinished business involved them too so they could see me. - Reggie sounds sad again, so put my hand on his knee, not really touching him. We're sitting on the floor, with our backs resting on the wall and our legs close to our chests, looking like two lost kids. - At least I've got you.
  - Your parents probably miss you too, you know? Don't you think we should look for them? Do you think it would help?
  - I am not sure anymore. I think I want to know, but at the same time what if I get disappointed? What if they don't care about me anymore? Don't think about me at all? Or what if they do? What if they can't move on? - He touches my hand softly and I can tell he has to focus a lot for that to happen. - It's also scary to see what they've become. To see what my future could've been.
He doesn't say anything else after that. His thumb tries stroking my skin and it takes a while until he finally succeeds. My heart is about to get out of my chest and I stay still, afraid that he'll run away like he did the night before.
  - You are not your parents, Reggie, just as I am not mine. As much as they are responsible for us to some extent, it's not as if we are a property being marked by our last name. Our family is not our whole world; if anything, they're the cheerleaders who stand outside the field cheering for us. Well, - I feel his gentle touch more prominently so I turn my gaze to our connected hands. - at least it should be like that. But anyway, I'm very proud of you. You are a beautiful, loved human being with an incredible capacity to love others. Alive or dead, you're full of life and that's amazing.
I don't want to extend the topic too much, just in case he's not ready for it, but I know that our parents also lost individual characteristics when they became parents. They didn't have their own names anymore; they were "my father" and "my mother". It seemed that they were less their own and more ours, as if their value was linked to their children in some way.
  - I… thank you. - Suddenly I can't feel his touch anymore. Disappointed, we stand up at the same time and again, we're so close I can memorize the exact shape of his lips. - You have no idea how much I… I needed this. Needed you. How much I need you. I'm happy we found each other, Y/N. I really am.
  - Me too, Reggie. I just wish our timing was a bit better, you know?
  - Yeah… I mean, the world is so old, right? At least we got some time here together. Let's just enjoy it from now on. Like it's now or never. - He smiles brightly again and I imitate him. - That's one of our songs, by the way. You need to hear -
The doorbell startles us. Reggie and I laugh at our own reactions and I go get the door. When I open it, Nick is there, with arrogant eyes and an infuriating smile.
  - Hey, Y/N. - He says. - I think we need to talk. Now.
  - Honey, who is this? - My mother asks me. Just like Daisy, she has that pretentious grin that tells me she thinks we're more than friends. - Is this Reggie that your dad was telling me about? Come in, sweetheart. Dinner is almost ready.
Mom runs to the kitchen, probably to tell the others about the news, and I'm scared again. If looks could kill, I'd be just like Reggie now.
  - Oh, so Reggie is here too? Good, that way we can kill two birds with one stone. - Reggie comes to the rescue, but he looks just as conflicted and confused as me. - And just so you know, you're one of the birds, Y/N, and I won't let you escape again.
  - What is this little dude talking about? - Reggie asks.
Nick's head turns to Reggie's direction and I feel sick again. It's hard to breathe and the purple mist coming out of the blonde's mouth is scarier than before. He's standing at my door, invading my house and threatening me. Everything is too much, my own body, my own thoughts and the house feels smaller and smaller.
  - I am talking about you, your friends and this rat right here. I've been looking for you for two lifetimes already and I'm not letting you go again. Not without getting my revenge first.

Summary: Jamie goes between one moment, and the next. Falling around her like rain, like snow.
She’s here for a reason. Here to help.
She just needs to remember.

Somewhere deep in the dark
A howling beast hears us talk
- Of Monsters and Men, Yellow Light
July 1991
A small girl was staring Jamie down.
"Hmmm." Jamie's gaze flickered between her opponent and her cards. "Got any eights?"
"Go Fish," said the small girl.
"No eights at all?" Jamie asked, incredulous. "None?"
"Nope."
"You didn't have any aces either."
"Mm-mm."
"Or any kings. Or queens. Or jacks."
A shake of the head.
"Are you holding fake cards or something? Am I being tricked?"
The little girl giggled. "Go fish!"
"I think I'm being cheated," Jamie grumbled, as she picked up a card to add to her impossibly large hand. "Poppins, do you think she's cheating?"
"Sam would never cheat," Dani said automatically from the kitchen.
"Right," Jamie narrowed her eyes. "Well, go on then. Ask me."
"Got any twos?" Sam, who was most certainly cheating, asked.
Jamie handed them over.
"I can't believe I'm getting my arse handed to me by a five-year-old," she muttered.
"Please don't swear in front of the children," Dani called.
Jamie's head whipped towards her, eyes round. "How did she even hear that?" She stage-whispered to Sam.
"She has super hearing," Sam whispered back. "That's what Liz says."
"She might be on to something." Jamie looked at the other small girl in her charge, who was leaning against Jamie's arm with a book that looked far too old for her. "What d'you think, Lizzie?"
"Dani's a superhero," Liz said, not looking up from her book.
"Oh?" Jamie raised an eyebrow. "And what makes you say that?"
"She has different coloured eyes."
"That's called het-hetro-hetrachr-hetercho-" Sam's little face scrunched up as she attempted the word.
"Heterochromia," Dani supplied, appearing at the door to the kitchen, smiling softly.
"Yeah!" Sam waved at her. "That!"
"Dani," Jamie said solemnly. "If that's really how you feel, I understand, but we have an apartment together-"
She was cut off by a dish towel hitting her in the face, causing the two little girls to dissolve into giggles.
"Ok, troublemakers," Dani said, ignoring her girlfriend's indignant spluttering. "Dinner's ready. Go wash your hands please."
The two little girls leapt up, and raced for the bathroom. Jamie put her ridiculous hand of cards down and pushed herself up off the ground, groaning.
"I'm getting old," she said, stretching. "Shouldn't be sitting on floors so much anymore."
"You can crouch in front of a rose bush for hours," Dani said, coming over to her. "But you can't sit on a floor for a game of cards?"
"I am filled with complexities, me," Jamie said, grinning.
Dani hummed, and began straightening Jamie's clothes, where they had gotten rumpled from sitting on the floor. She adjusted the collar sticking out over her sweater, and pressed a soft kiss to Jamie's lips.
"Gross!"
The two women broke apart, still smiling, and turned to face the children, now hovering in the doorway, hands out to cover each other's eyes. Dani laughed, and made her way over to them, hands on her hips.
"Alright, alright," she said. "Let's see those hands."
Sam and Liz held out their hands, and Dani inspected them closely, turning each one over, before nodding decisively.
"Perfectly clean," she said. "Let's eat."
She led the little girls into the kitchen, where dinner was set on the table; home-made pizza, with toppings added by Sam and Liz and Jamie, crust made by Dani. Excited, the little girls clambered into their seats, waiting impatiently for Dani and Jamie to sit at their own.
Babysitting the Larson twins was always an experience, one Jamie treasured. Dani hadn't had many chances to interact with kids since Bly, and while Jamie knew she was happy in their life together - with the shop, the apartment, the one-day-at-a-time-but-not-really of it all - she recognized that working with children was something Dani missed. So watching her talk to the two girls about why pineapple was objectively the best pizza topping made Jamie's heart ache in the best way.
"I dunno, Poppins," Jamie said, making a face. "I believe fruit of all kinds should be kept away from pizza."
"I like it," Liz declared. "Can we put pineapple on pizza next time?"
"For sure!" Dani said warmly.
"Absolutely not," Jamie said at the same time.
They pretended to glare at each other from across the table, though Jamie could see that Dani was fighting back laughter.
"Don't worry, sweetheart," Dani said to Liz. "We won't let mean ol' Jamie get in the way of our delicious pizza."
"We won't!" Liz said gleefully, shaking her head to add emphasis.
A tug on Jamie's sleeve caused her to look at the other twin, who was leaning over the table towards her with an earnest expression.
"I don't want pineapple either," Sam whispered.
"We'll stage a rebellion, don't you worry," Jamie whispered back.
"What's a rebellion?"
"It's when you stop Poppins here from ruining pizza."
Sam's eyes lit up. "We're gonna have a rebellion!" She exclaimed.
"Can I help?" asked Liz.
"No! You're on Dani's side!"
"I wanna be in the rebellion!"
"Now look what you've done," Dani said, voice long-suffering.
"I feel a little rebellion is good for 'em," Jamie said, leaning back in her chair and resting her arms behind her head. "Builds character."
Dani sighed and shook her head, but she was smiling. Jamie grinned back, warmth swelling in her chest like a balloon.
After dinner they put on The Little Mermaid, which Dani had rented and which the twins watched with wide eyes. This, unfortunately, had the side effect of a sing-along beginning just as Dani and Jamie tried to put the girls to bed. A long, adorable battle ensued, until the kids were fast asleep, and Dani and Jamie were cuddled together on the couch, sipping wine and relaxing.
"God, kids are tiring," Jamie sighed, snuggling further Dani's neck. "You're warm."
"I absolutely blame you for that last burst of energy at the end there," Dani said, fingers trailing through Jamie's hair.
Jamie craned her neck to look up at her. "Oi, what'd I do?"
"'Little bit of rebellion's good for 'em,'" Dani mocked her, accent as terrible as it had been that morning in the greenhouse. "'Builds character.' God you're so full of it sometimes."
"I stand by it," Jamie said, settling back down and nuzzling at Dani's collarbone. She placed a small kiss there and smiled, humming contentedly.
They lay in silence for a moment, Jamie dozing in the comfort of Dani's embrace, Dani gazing at the Star Trek episode playing on TV.
"Have you thought about having kids?"
Jamie jolted into awareness, pushing herself up so she was level with Dani's face, which was still turned towards the television.
"Run that by me again?" Jamie asked, breathless.
Dani turned to look at her, the crease between her blue eyes signalling her seriousness.
"Kids," she repeated. "Have you thought about it?"
"Well, I mean, I, uh." Jamie stopped, breathed in, and started again. "Honestly, Poppins, I'd be lying if I said I hadn't."
Dani nodded, looking away, corners of her mouth curling downwards. "Right."
"With you, Dani," Jamie said, adjusting herself so she could use her other hand to push Dani's chin up, to face her. "You - you get that, yeah? I've thought about having kids with you, specifically."
A humourless smile flashed across Dani's face. "Well, I'm not sure that's physically possible, but I can do my best."
Jamie allowed herself a small chuckle. "We'll come back to that when we're back in our apartment," she said. "But seriously, Dani, have you thought about kids? With, uh." She cleared her throat. "With me?"
Dani didn't answer right away, eyes unfocusing as she seemed to consider this.
"Of course I have," she said finally. Her voice was rough, and Jamie was dismayed to see unshed tears in her eyes. "Jamie, of course I've thought about having kids with you." The tears spilled over, and Jamie felt that familiar panic at the thought of Dani crying rising in her chest.
"Oh, darlin'." Jamie leaned up, kissing her on her forehead, her cheeks, her chin, and the corner of her mouth. "I swear I wouldn't be that terrible of a mum. No need to cry at the thought."
Dani laughed, wiping at her eyes. "No, you idiot," she said affectionately. "I think you'd be a great mom. That's the problem."
At Jamie's confused expression, she sighed.
"She could still take me," she said softly. "You know that."
Jamie nodded. "I do," she said, matching Dani's quiet tone.
"So no matter how much I want it," Dani took in a shuddering breath. "It just can't happen. Because then I might leave you, alone, with a child, and I can't-"
Fresh tears came then, and Dani buried her face in Jamie's neck, entire body shaking. Jamie cradled the back of Dani's head, pressing her lips to her hair and murmuring soothingly. After a few minutes, Dani stilled, and pulled back.
"Oh." She tutted. "Your shirt." She wiped ineffectively at the damp spot on Jamie's shirt.
"Don't worry about it, it'll dry." Jamie ducked her head to catch Dani's gaze, rubbing soothing circles on her shoulder. "Hey, look at me for a second."
Dani forced herself to look into Jamie's eyes, lip still trembling.
"Listen," Jamie said. "I never thought I would even consider having a family before." She paused, lifting her shoulder in a half shrug. "My, ah, history with families isn't exactly great, as you know. And growing up, the way I did, and then realizing I was more interested in the fairer sex, well," she shot Dani a small grin. "I never thought kids were in the cards for me. Thought, even if they were, I would probably fuck 'em up somehow. But you," she laughed lightly, and ran her knuckles gently down Dani's cheek. "God, Dani, with you, anything seems possible, y'know?"
Dani's lips quirked up in a small smile. "You're so good with Sam and Liz, and with Miles and Flora." She shifted, pulling herself further up on the couch. "Give yourself more credit."
"Bit different being a babysitter or an aunt than it is being a mum," Jamie pointed out.
"That's what I mean," Dani said. "You deserve the chance to find that out for yourself."
"Dani," Jamie said warningly. "Don't. Don't go down that road."
It wasn't a new conversation; that Jamie deserved more, deserved better, deserved someone she knew would stick around, wouldn't leave her one night as a ghost took Dani away.
"Jamie," Dani started. "It's not fair-"
"No, it's not," Jamie agreed, pushing up to lean her forehead against Dani's. "It's not fair, because you'd be an amazing mum, and with you, I think I would have a good chance at not making any messes. It's not fair that we won't get that chance."
Dani's breath hitched, more tears leaking out. She opened her mouth, no doubt to keep arguing that Jamie shouldn't have to stay tied to a dead woman walking, but footsteps from the hallway interrupted her.
"Is that one of the kids?" Dani asked, twisting awkwardly to look.
"No," Jamie breathed, staring at the doorway to the hall. "It's not."
Viola smiled back at her sadly, looking more human than Jamie had ever seen her. Still not quite there - like a wax figure at Madame Tussaud's, Jamie thought, but her eyes were no longer cloudy, and she seemed to be almost completely dry. Slowly, Jamie pushed herself up from where she lay tangled in Dani, so she was sitting up straight on her knees.
"It's not fair," Viola said, moving into the room, words dropping like stones into the room. "And I suppose it's my fault, isn't it?"
"Oh," Jamie's mouth twisted, anger welling up in her chest. "D'you think?"
"Yes." Viola stopped at the couch, and sat down next to Jamie, who realized with a start that Dani had disappeared. "None of us really had a chance to be mothers, did we?" She looked at Jamie. "You, me, or Dani."
"You took her away before we could even try," Jamie bit out, fists clenching on her thighs.
"You're angry," Viola observed. "I understand."
"Do you really?" Jamie asked, voice shaking. "You took Dani's life from her. Stole it, before her time. We could have had so many more years together. We could have had a family. There are so many things we are never going to get to do, because you-"
She stopped, closing her eyes and breathing through her nose, nostrils flaring. Slowly, she sank back onto her heels, counting backwards from twenty.
This was not productive, she reminded herself. Her anger would do nothing to help Dani.
"I-" Viola's voice made Jamie open her eyes again. "I understand. How you feel."
Jamie said nothing, fighting to keep her temper under control.
"Well, perhaps not exactly," Viola reasoned, watching Jamie out of the corner of her eye. "I was a mother, but not in a way that mattered. By the time she was old enough to remember me, I was an ill, bitter woman. A ghost, really."
"Ironic," Jamie said stiffly.
Viola chuckled. "Yes." She agreed. She looked at Jamie, eyes dark and sad. "I think I've been looking for her, all these years. I want her to be with me."
Jamie frowned. "You wanted to bring your daughter to be with you," she said slowly. "At the bottom of a lake?"
Viola's mouth hardened. "She's my daughter. Shouldn't she be with me?"
"At the cost of her life?"
Jamie barely flinched at Dani's voice. Somehow, she had felt her before she spoke, standing behind the couch, arm resting next to Jamie's head. She was staring at Viola, eyes hard, brow furrowed, fist clenched.
"I am her mother," Viola said, rising from the couch and turning to face Dani, voice growing louder. "She should have been with me the whole time. My time with her was taken from me. All I wanted was to get back what was rightfully mine."
"Your daughter was a person," Dani said. "She wasn't anyone's."
Viola scoffed. "Of course you would say that."
"Of course she would-" Jamie looked between the two women, eyes wide. "What does that mean?"
Dani and Viola continued to glare at each other, as darkness closed in on all sides around them. Jamie grabbed for Dani's hand desperately, only to watch her fingers slip through it as though there was nothing there.
"Dani-!" But Dani was gone. Viola was gone. All at once, Jamie's vision was filled with a blinding light, and her hearing deafened by a great clap of thunder, and then there was nothing.
Nothing, except-
————————————–
June 1987
The thunder rumbled twice more before fading away, the blessed silence letting Jamie relax back into the couch cushions, unknotting the tension in her shoulders slowly. She eyed Miles and Flora, fast asleep on the floor in front of the fireplace; but neither of them had woken up, evidently exhausted from all the excitement of the night.
It was always strange, being at the manor after dark. Jamie was usually gone by supper, or just after when she was coaxed to stay by Flora or Owen. The great house became unfamiliar to her at night, painted with shadows and strange noises, the life that filled it during the day falling into an uneasy sleep.
But it wasn't so bad now. The sitting room was warm, and Jamie was comfortably ensconced on the couch next to Dani, content that even if Peter Quint had been spotted on the grounds, everyone she loved was in one room, and her shotgun was within reach. The spiked hot chocolate had even loosened her enough to let herself watch Dani out of the corner of her eye, as Dani studied the polaroid of Peter and Rebecca.
"Oh," Hannah's voice, quiet, from across the room, where she had fallen asleep against Owen's shoulder. "God, I'm so sorry, I-truth be told, I haven't slept well for days."
"Oh Mrs. Grose," Owen replied softly. "It is too late now." He gestured to his shoulder. "Go on, tuck in and relax for a bit."
Jamie smiled into her drink as Hannah let her head fall back to Owen's shoulder. Her eyes slid over to Dani, and she felt a familiar hitch in her chest at the sight. This little crush, which she'd been nursing on the au pair ever since Dani had told her she was right to be angry about her roses, was starting to get annoying.
"Rather that was you curled up there?" she murmured, leaning forward and dragging Dani's attention away from the photograph. At Dani's confused expression, she motioned towards Owen and Hannah.
"Every girl in the village is mad for him," she said, rolling her eyes. "And he doesn't even know it, which makes it even worse."
Dani laughed softly, but immediately turned back to the photograph.
"They look like Bonnie and Clyde," she said.
Jamie held back a scoff. "Yeah, if Clyde fucked Bonnie over." She scowled at the photo in Dani's hand. "He got away, she paid the price."
"So, what," Dani turned to her. "He's stalking a dead woman? Risking prison for someone he didn't even bother to bring along? That doesn't make sense."
Jamie sighed, avoiding Dani's eyes and staring at the polaroid. "The wrong kind of love," she said simply. "Can fuck you up. Follow you. Make you do some really stupid shit."
Across the years, she caught a glimpse of brown eyes, a grinning mouth with her name on the lips, and the flashing blue of police lights.
"And those two," she glanced from Dani to the photograph. "Believe me, that was the wrong kind of love."
"We've all been in the wrong kind of love for one reason or another," Dani said.
"Mm, but I saw how he twisted himself into her." Jamie's mouth hardened at the memories, and she missed the way Dani turned slowly towards her, memories of her own flashing briefly across her face. "Burrowed in deep." Dani had turned away by the time Jamie glanced at her, and she averted her own gaze from the au pair's face. "I dunno why so many people mix up love and possession. But guess what that means? He didn't just trap her. He trapped himself." She glared at the Peter Quint in the photo. "And I hope she haunts that fucker forever."
There was a moment of silence, in which Dani gazed at Jamie, and Jamie gazed at the photograph, hating the memory of Peter Quint, mourning the memory of Rebecca Jessel, trying to banish the memory of a body floating in the lake she saw every day.
"People do, don't they?" Dani said softly. "Mix up love and possession?"
Startled, Jamie met her eyes, the air instantly becoming heavier around her. She swallowed, and nodded.
"Yeah, they do," she said.
"I don't think that should be possible." Dani's voice was a whisper, but her words seemed so loud to Jamie, striking her between the ribs and making it hard to breathe. "I mean, they're opposites, really. Love and ownership."
She seemed so earnest, eyes wide and mouth set. For the first time, Jamie let herself look; didn't avert her eyes or turn away, find a reason to look anywhere but directly at Dani Clayton's face. She had feared it might be like looking into the sun too long, and that she would eventually be blinded. But instead-
Instead, she found Dani looking back.
"Yeah," she said, the word so quiet it was only for herself and Dani to hear.
The room narrowed to the couch, to just Dani and Jamie. Dani nodded slightly, something like relief flickering across her face.
"She comes here often, you know."
Jamie's head whipped around, hands gripping her mug hard when she saw Viola standing next to her, pale skin shining a sickly yellow in the light of the table lamp. Viola walked around the back of the couch, her hand trailing over the wooden frame, both Jamie and Dani's eyes following her.
"I'm not sure what it is, about this memory," Viola continued, coming to a stop at the end of the couch, looking down at Dani curiously, who stared back, brow furrowed. "It's not where she fell in love with you. Not even where her affection for you began. She already felt something for you here."
And Jamie knew that. Dani had told her, years from this moment, that her feelings had started earlier than this, when Jamie had consoled her during her panic attack. That she had felt that same familiarity Jamie had when they'd first laid eyes on each other.
But this moment, this conversation on the couch - something had happened here; something they had never spoken about, because they had never needed to. An understanding. More than that, really. Recognition. A deepening of the connection they had both felt in that first moment in the kitchen.
Ah, there you are.
"Viola," Dani started, voice strangely gentle, like she was speaking to a student, but Viola shook her head.
"I have listened to you have this conversation many times now," she said, frustration colouring her voice, as she sat in one of the chairs near Dani. "And I have yet to understand."
Dani and Jamie glanced at each other. Jamie straightened up, placing her mug on the table beside her, and cleared her throat.
"It's about," she paused, looking to Dani for support. "Rebecca and Peter - do you remember Peter?"
Viola shook her head. Jamie frowned.
"You killed him," she said drily.
Viola blinked, and for a moment, she almost looked ashamed. Then it was gone.
"I don't remember," she said quietly. "I don't remember much from this time."
"Right," Jamie said, unconvinced.
Dani reached for Jamie, sliding their fingers together and squeezing.
"It's not about Rebecca and Peter," Dani said softly, eyes on Jamie. "Not really."
"No, I suppose not," Jamie replied, ducking her head and looking at their joined hands.
"My ex - my - Eddie," Dani's breath hitched, and Jamie's thumb started rubbing circles on the back of her hand. "You've seen Eddie. In my memories."
Viola nodded. "You were too good for him," she said primly.
Dani smiled weakly, shaking her head. "No, that's not," she took a breath. "He loved me. But not - he loved the person he thought I was. And more than anything, he wanted me to stay that person." She closed her eyes. "It's like, those cases of butterflies you see in museums. He caught me, and he wanted to keep me, and to never let me change." She opened her eyes again, looking at Viola with a grim expression. "Do you understand that?"
Viola was quiet, brow furrowed. "You didn't love him back," she said finally.
"Not like that, anyway," Dani said, nodding. "Not the way he wanted me to love him."
Viola stared her, unblinking. "But you love her," she said, and her gaze shifted to Jamie. "You love her with everything you are. I felt it. Every day in your mind. I felt your love for her."
Dani smiled, and looked at Jamie. She raised their joined hands to her mouth, and kissed her knuckles.
"Yes," she breathed. "Of course I do. How could I not?"
Jamie smiled at her, though something was niggling at the back of her head.
Blue eyes, she thought distantly.
"I love my husband," Viola said. "And I love my daughter. And I would give anything for them to be with me. Anything. And yet." She stared at Jamie this time. "And yet, you wouldn't take her down, to join you. Even though she asked for it. Begged for it. Even though letting her go meant you would be without her."
"Jamie has a whole life to live still," Dani said evenly, hand squeezing Jamie's almost too hard. "I wouldn't - I couldn't - even if she wanted it -"
"I did," Jamie said quietly, drawing both Dani and Viola's attention to herself. "I would have happily drowned to be with you, you know that."
"I do," Dani said, a little helplessly. "And that's why I couldn't let you."
"I know," Jamie said, one side of her mouth quirking up in a sad half-smile.
"If I had the same chance," Viola said, voice brittle. "I would bring my family to be with me."
"Is that really what you'd want?" Jamie asked, leaning forward. "For your husband? For your daughter? To lay at the bottom of the lake forever? To slowly forget who she is?"
"Daughters should be with their mothers," Viola said firmly.
"Sometimes that's not how it works," Dani said, voice quiet.
"It should be," Viola insisted, eyes flashing dangerously. "It's one thing to let your wife go, but if you had a child you would understand. It's a mother's job to protect her child, to be there for her, to love her, and hold her close, and-"
"Mum?"
Viola fell silent, looking over Dani and Jamie's shoulders with a frown.
"Who-?" She asked, and then her eyes flicked to Jamie.
"Mum?"
The voice was familiar, and Jamie felt herself standing up before she could really think about it, something insistent pulling her towards the sound. Dani's hand slid out of her grasp as she made her way towards the hallway.
"Jamie," Dani said from behind her. "Jamie, what-?"
Jamie kept going, heart thudding in her chest, through the door, down the hall, and finally, stepped somewhere that wasn't Bly Manor, opened her mouth, and said,

Yes you may! I hope you enjoy this! :)
Shoto Todoroki
Tumblr media
Todoroki had found you on his way down to the common room in the middle of the night. He had no particular reason to go, but it was late and he had woken up and couldn’t fall back asleep. Considering the dorms had elevators, not many people took the stairs, but he liked to take them from time to time to avoid social interaction sometimes. Not that he minded his dorm/class mates, there were just times he wasn’t up for chatting. This night in particular, he was feeling restless anyway, so he took the walk down the stairs to just have more time to think as he walked.
As Todoroki continued down the stairs, he heard what sounded like… music? He stopped for a second to listen. What he heard was muffled music coming from what sounded like headphones. Was someone in the stairwell?
He continued walking, to find a figure sitting on one of the steps, their head in their arms. The figure looked frustrated, they leg bouncing slightly and their foot tapping. Todoroki took it upon himself to approach the figure. Because you had your headphones in, you couldn’t hear the sound of Todoroki’s cautious steps behind you. You felt a hand touch your shoulder.
you let out a small shriek, jumping up and nearly tumbling down the stairs as you did. Your reaction caused Todoroki to let out a small yelp as well, stumbling back a little. The two of you stared at each other for a second, before Todoroki had spoken up.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck. You sighed a sigh of relief, it was just a classmate, not a stairwell ghost.
“It’s fine.” You said, offering him a small, half hearted smile.
“What are you doing in the stairwell at this time?” He had asked you, taking a few more steps towards you. He watched your smile drop, as a look of shame fell on your face.
“I… I couldn’t sleep. In training today, I got completely knocked out cold. If I wouldn’t have tried to push Denki out of the way of Kirishima’s attack, I wouldn’t have gotten hit. If I would have been awake, I could have helped our team win. But… I was just on the ground and unconscious for most of the time. It’s… pathetic really.” You admitted. You hung your head a little, your feeling of shame returning to your body.
“Kirishima hit you hard enough to knock you out? Are you okay?” Todoroki had asked. You pointed to the bandage wrapped around your head.
“Minor concussion. I haven’t heard Kirishima say anything to me besides apologies. You know how the guy is, haha..” You joked lightly.
Todoroki gave a small chuckle, much to your surprise. He sat down on the steps, and patted the spot next to him. You walked up a few steps, and seated yourself next to him. You looked at him confused. What did he want?
“You do realize it’s not just your job to keep your teammates in check, right? They should have done their absolute best to succeed as well.” He spoke softly. You cocked your head slightly.
“Well, what do you mean?” You questioned.
“You didn’t fail them. You were heroic enough to save one of them from their own stupidity. If anyone has failed another, they had failed you.”
The words were soothing in a sense, but also cold. Sure, you didn’t want to put the blame on them for what happened but… at the same time, Todoroki had a point. Denki should have taken measures to get himself out of the way instead of standing like a deer in headlights. Guilt was still heavy in your chest, but… maybe a little less heavy now.
“I… thank you, Todoroki. I um.. I really needed to hear that.” You said softly. Todoroki shook his head.
“You don’t need to thank me for telling you the truth.”
There was a silence between you two for a second.
“Would you like to go back to my dorm? I’m sure it’s much more comfortable than a stairwell.” Todoroki offered, as he stood up. You felt your face heat up.
“W-what? I don’t wanna disturb you trying to sleep or whatever-”
“I couldn’t sleep anyway, and as you said, you can’t either. It’s okay if you don’t want to, but I figured you didn’t want to be alone right now.”
You looked up at him, your faces burning at the idea of being in Todoroki’s room at such an hour. If Aizawa caught you two even outside of your dorms he would be pissed, but in his dorm? Alone? Just the two of you? At this hour? It wasn’t hard to see what could go wrong.
But you decided to live a little, and took him up on his offer. The two of you ended up staying up to around 4 am, talking about random things and watching movies. You had fallen asleep in his bed while Todoroki occupied himself with other things. When he took notice to your sleeping form, he figured it’d be best if he slept as well, considering the time. He crawled under the covers next to you, and the two of you slept peacefully.
And that’s the story of how everyone thought you two were dating, as Mina had busted open Todoroki’s door wondering why he was sleeping in so late only to find the two of you in bed together.

Katsuki Bakugo
Tumblr media
Bakugo couldn’t sleep that night and was headed down to the kitchen area when he found you. He wasn’t one to stay up late, but tonight just felt weird for some reason. He couldn’t shake the feeling, and his body just seemed to refuse the idea of sleeping. Frustrated, he figured he’d kill time by maybe making a late night snack or something. Not wanting to make too much sound, he headed down the steps instead of the elevator.
He heard the sounds of sniffles and immediately stopped. They continued, on, seemingly unaware of his presence.
“Hello?” He called. He heard a small ‘eep!’ In response. Bakugo turned the corner of the stairwell to find you, curled up on one of the steps. You had tears in your eyes and looked at him with a bit of fear in your features. A heavy silence hung over the two of you for a few seconds.
“Are you… okay?” You jolted at the sound of Bakugo’s voice. It was… softer, hushed even. You weren’t sure if you had ever seen this guy show sympathy before, was this really Bakugo? Or was the darkness in the stairwell playing tricks on your eyes?
“I-I’m- uh, I’m fine.” You muttered out, wiping a tear from your eye.
“No, you’re not.” Bakugo had said. He wasn’t wrong, that’s for sure. He knew he wasn’t wrong either. He let out a small huff.
“Come on, get up.” He said as he walked towards you, holding a hand out for you. You looked at his hand, and at his face, trying to see if there was any sort of joke here. He raised an eyebrow at your hesitation. You gently took his hand, and he helped you stand up. There was a second of him holding your hand a bit longer than what was probably expected, but you didn’t think much of it at the time.
“Come on.” Bakugo ordered, motioning him to follow you. You didn’t get it, what did he want? You had expected him to make some sort of snarky comment towards you showing weakness or something. But.. here you were. Following him up the stairs and back into the hallway.
“U-um… where are we…” You went to ask him just as he stopped at a door. Oh… it was his dorm. He motioned you inside, and you obliged.
“So, are you gonna tell me why you were crying in the stairwell?” Bakugo asks, still in a tone more polite than usual. It still had that underlying annoyed sound to it but… You think that might just be how his voice sounds. Oh wait, he asked a question, shoot.
“U-um, well… I’m just a little… upset over something, that’s all.” You stammer out. You knew how Bakugo was, and had seen how he perceived others showing weakness before. You didn’t exactly want to be a laughing stock for him. You gently sat down on the edge of his bed, your hands in your lap.
“Clearly so. I got that much.” He replied, sarcasm lacing his voice. “What is making you upset?”
You swallowed thickly. Well, hear goes nothing.
“I… well, today in training my team failed… and I kinda feel it might have been my fault. Sero had bound me up with tape before I could do much to turn the tables for my team. I was hoping during capture the flag I could go unnoticed as the other team tried to fight of the rest of my team, but… turns out I’m not as sneaky as I thought.”
You said, hanging your head a little as you twiddled your thumbs. You heard him let out a small scoff.
“Well, first of all, it was dumb of them to expect you to be the stealthy one. That’s not how your quirk works and I’m sure there were other people on your team more qualified for that.”
You froze for a second.
“What?”
“Second of all, they shouldn’t have sent you alone. If they actually took the training seriously they should have sent you with someone else to ensure you would be able to carry out the plan. From what it sounds like they only had Soy Sauce Face defending the flag. If they send you with someone else instead of expecting you to carry their asses to victory on your own, you guys probably wouldn’t have lost.”
You blinked, offering Bakugo a confused look. Why… was he giving you game strategies? He looked at you, rolling his eyes and sighing.
“In other words, they were idiots to expect you to do that on your own. It’s not your fault. You did what you could.” It was… a surprisingly sweet thing of him to say. You looked down at your lap again, a bit embarrassed by his reassurance. You didn’t think there’d be a day, or night, where Bakugo would lighten your mood, but… here you were.
“I.. thank you, Bakugou…” you said softly to him. He shook his head as he walked towards his bed, crawling into it.
“It’s whatever, I don’t care.” He said, trying to regain his cold tone again. It didn’t seem to work for you though, as you were already fully aware that he did care enough to ease your nerves.
“If you want to stay, I’ll listen to you talk about your feelings or whatever. If you want to go back to your room, I don’t care.” Bakugo had said, trying (and failing) to subtly hint that you could stay the night.
You took him up on his offer, and spent the night taking about random things, venting about things that upset you and having Bakugo back take your side on things you were angry about. you don’t exactly remember when you had fallen asleep, but you remembered the morning after. There was a knocking on his door, and a whine on the other side.
“Bakugooooo!! Wake up man!!! You said we’d hang out today and it’s already like noon!!!” Denki’s voice called. You froze in your place.
“Oh shut up! I’ll get up when I want to, go away!” Bakugo yelled back.
“But Bakugooooo!”
“Ugh, give me thirty minutes!”
“Okaaaaay!! Thirty minutes and counting!!!”
You two heard foot steps walk away from the door. You sighed a sigh of relief. Getting out of his bed, you shot him an apologetic look. But before you could apologize, he shook his head.
“I’ll talk to you later. Make sure he, or none of those other dumbasses see you. You won’t hear the end of it.” Bakugo said. You gave him a nod.
“Talk to you later then.” You said, as you snuck out of his room. This time, you were stealthy enough to not get caught.

Introducing The Whetstones || 10.31.2020
“Why you wanna marry me anyhow?
So I can kiss you anytime I want.”
                                                           Wedding Song || Vows
“People always used to laugh at me when I said I believed in soulmates--as if they were silly myth that didn’t exist. They’d appease me for a moment and then do their best to remind me how the real world works. But I couldn’t understand why they didn’t believe in them--wasn’t it obvious? Now I realize that the reason it was so obvious to me was because I had found my soulmate at seven years old with the little boy living next door to me who would invite me over to play and ride horses and bake with his momma--who made a place for me in his life when others wouldn’t. Soulmates are rare, yes--but they aren’t a myth. And I think our love story proves that. I Happy wedding day, baby. Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with my soulmate.”
Jack feels like it’s a dream when he rolls over and finds a head of blonde hair next to him. Of course, he quickly realizes it’s not when he inhales a mouthful of hair and tries not to gag on it. “Hey,” his voice is soft as it comes out, his hand dragging up the soft skin of Lia’s arm until he can twist his fingers into hers, “Mags- hey, you should wake up. Don’t you and Moira have a costume shopping thing happening in like… an hour?” Jack’s eyes flicker to the clock that sits on the bedside table closest to Magnolia’s head and it’s already 10:30- this is the first time he’s slept in in years and there’s nothing he wants more than to stay curled up around Magnolia forever. Jack cuddles in closer and slides his leg between hers, his cold toes pressing against her ankle, “It’s not like you to sleep in like this. Come on, Mags- don’t make me tickle you.” His hand brushes over her side, “I’ll do it. I will.”
“Mmmmhh,” She mumbles incoherently as she feels Jack’s fingers intertwine with hers. “Shopping can wait till later. I am not moving.” She presses herself closer to him to emphasize the point.  In truth, Jack was right--Magnolia didn’t sleep in hardly ever but that was before she’d fallen asleep in Jack’s bed with him beside her. Now the idea of never leaving was a thousand times more compelling and she was planning to do just that. She jumped softly as the shock of cold on her ankles but still made no move to get up. Sleeping next to Jack was by far the most comfortable position she’d ever been in and waking up next to him was something she could do forever, if given the option. She yawns lazily, shifting slight to adjust to fall back asleep when she hears his threat. “You wouldn’t,” Lia’s eyes open just a slight bit more, sending him a glare. “Don’t you dare tickle me mister, I can’t be held responsible for what happens if you do!”
“Oh, wouldn’t I?” his fingers dance over her side and he gives it a squeeze in hopes that she’ll jump. Jack leans forward and over her, a smile pulling wide across his face as he does, “You know she’ll kill you if you’re late. Or she’ll kill me. Regardless of who she kills, one of us will be suffering, so you really should get up.” Jack lays down on top of Magnolia while laughing - it may not be his entire body weight but they break out in giggles, “Do you have any ideas on what you’re thinking of getting for a costume? I have no desire in the slightest to go get a costume so I was thinking like… James Bond or something. Slick back hair- suit, you know… the usual.” It’s not that Jack hated Halloween- he really didn’t, in fact- he loved getting to dress up, but this year had been weird and he was just ready for the month to be over.
“Jack!” She gasps slightly, laughter escaping from her as she looks at him more clearly. She watches as a few stray curls fall in front of his eyes and her heart jumps in the same way her body did when he squeezed her side. She thought herself a pretty focused person, all things considered--until you threw Jack Whetstone in the mix. Just a look at him and her whole train of thought just fly out the window. Lia’s lips slipped into a sly smirk, her free hand maneuvering up to brush the curls from his eyes before she leaned forward to kiss him gently. “First of all, I’m a princess to her--so that grants me royal immunity,” She teased, another giggle bubbling from within her. She didn’t believe Moira when she called her a princess, but she was also pretty convinced the woman would let her being a teensy-bit late slide, all things considered. “And secondly, I can probably use that immunity on you too--but if you are really that tired of me hogging your bed…” A quick peck on the nose and she thought on his question. “Well I don’t know--I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in years. Usually I’m working.” Most holidays she’s working, but that wasn’t the question. “The usual? So, you think you’re usually 007, huh? I mean, I suppose you’re handsome enough for it,” She laughed again, her arms snaking to wrap loosely around his neck. “Well the obvious choice is some sort of princess or--like a mouse? But I don’t know, I kind of think it’d be fun to do something not obvious for once, y’know? Throw everyone off their groove?”
“You’re a princess to everyone, Mags. It’ll always amaze me how you don’t see how people lay down and roll over like lovesick puppies for you,” He pressed his lips to her shoulder and kissed across it- they’d hardly done anything more than kissing and cuddling, but this was enough for Jack for once. This felt right. “I’m pretty damn sure I’m James Bond at all times,” he rolled his eyes at the expected jar comment that he knew would follow- at this rate, he was pretty sure he could afford to buy an engagement ring with the amount of money he owed Magnolia. “What if we did like… a couple’s costume? I know that’s cliche and I know we arent a couple…” his words hung in the air for a moment. What even were they anyways? Basically a couple, right? Just one that never spoke about how they felt, “I’d offer to be someone from Pride and Prejudice but honestly… I don’t think I can pull off the look.” Jack let his hands hang off of Magnolia’s arms, his thumb brushing against her soft skin, “Well… if you’re looking for something not obvious, I think playing it safe is not the way to go.”
“Lovesick puppies?” A soft giggle escaped her lips as she felt him kiss her shoulders. “Oh please, they don’t do that. I just ask nicely and usually they are nice enough to help out--or my bag of baked goods helps. I’m like Mary Poppins but with cookies!” Nothing about this scenario felt wrong or weird to her--like it was just normal to wake up in the bed of your crush without anything having happened the night before and the idea that it felt just right made her smile wide. “Jack--” She looked around the room they were in and let out a sigh. “Dang it, the jar doesn’t count in the bedroom.” Lia sent him a wink and she laughed a little, swiftly moving on to his next suggestion--a couples costume. Or, rather, a not-officially-a-couple couples costume. That name didn’t roll off the tongue half as well--but nevermind that. “First of all, you could pull off anything you wanted to--but even so, Pride and Prejudice might still be too obvious. Oh--wait, you said James Bond, don’t those movies always have a,” She furrowed her brows as she tried to think of the name, it resting on the top of her tongue. “A Bond Girl!” A Bond Girl--you forgot the name of Bond Girl. “What about that? I mean, to be fair I’ve never seen a James Bond movie--am I totally off base?”
If Jack had been drinking water, he would’ve choked, “Doesn’t count in the…” he let out a nervous laugh, “There you go surprising me again, as usual.” He buried his head into Lia’s neck as she rattled out ideas of a bond girl while he tried to think through his own. Austin Powers came to mind- and while that’d be fun, he didn’t think it’d quite hit the mark like he wanted it to. The thing was… Jack was tired of them playing this game- he was tired of them dancing around the idea of a relationship or of dating. They’d been metaphorically dating for most of their lives at this point, and maybe that’s why he’d been so reluctant to truly put effort into sealing the deal because he knew it took so much to start when really… he was ready to have the white picket fence ending with Magnolia tomorrow, if he could. Jack pulled Magnolia closer to him, “Maybe not James Bond… what about… I mean, like… assassins are kinda cool, aren’t they? Or spies? We don’t necessarily need to be characters, right?” It was in that moment that he had an epiphany-, “Wait! Have you ever seen Mr. and Mrs. Smith?” Jack pulled back, a wild grin on his face, “That would be so badass.”
“I have all sorts of tricks up my sleeve,” She grinned and kissed the top of his head as he buried his face in her shoulder. “Haven’t figured me out yet y’know.” Lia teased, her fingers absentmindedly playing with his hair as she listened to his follow up--though her mind was caught up in the idea of a couples costume--whatever they were, it was still enough to dress up in a costume that matched. But they had always done that, in some way--perhaps that was the first sign that there was clearly something more between them. Well, not the first sign--their inability to stay separate from each other was clearly number one. There would have been no shuffling in the tilt-a-whirl line if that wasn’t the case. But it wasn’t like she wanted to stay away either--as cheesy as it sounded, her world never felt more upright and normal than when she was with Jack and it made her heart skip when she thought about it. “Assassins? Oh wait--that’s the movie with Brad and Angelina, right?” Part of her was shocked that she had even seen the movie, but it had been years ago and didn’t remember much of it, except the fact they were married and….were trying to kill eachother. But they could leave that part out. Her face lit up. “No, that’s perfect. Like it’s a fantastic mix of James Bond and Bond Girl but with a twist.” She paused for a moment. “Wait--can we do that scene where they’re dancing in their fancy clothes but she also has a weapon on her thigh?” Lia had always thought that was the coolest part. “I love this idea.”
Jack couldn’t hold back a laugh, “Oh, so you’re telling me sweet little miss Magnolia Barnes wants to walk around with a gun strapped to her thigh and a cut in her dress up to her waist?” He bit his lip to bite back a bigger smile and squeezed her side, “I mean- it’s an easy costume, right?” Mr. and Mrs. Smith. He could do that- it was classy enough for a ball, but fun enough for a couple’s costume. Jack thought about the little paper ring in his bedside dresser- he’d been playing around with origami for a while and he’d made it on a whim- hoping to give it to Magnolia as a fun, whimsical gift when she needed a pick-me-up. It took a moment- a moment of Lia fumbling around with her words and Jack staring at her lips moving for him to comprehend the thoughts racing through his head. Lia. Ring. Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Couple. Costume. Ring. Lia. Ring. Mr. & Mrs. Jack sucked in a breath of air- the thought… the idea was crazy. It was… Jack knew it was possibly maybe even the dumbest thing he’d ever do or even suggest- but they’d waited so long. It was gonna happen someday, anyways, wasn’t it? “Hey… Magnolia?” Jack waited until he’d caught her eye, “You remember when our parents sat us down and told us that one day we’d be required to marry?” He remembered that day- it’d been the best day of his life- getting to marry the girl he’d been in love with for years sounded like heaven. “I know I acted like I was upset- like I didn’t want it,” Jack sucked in a deep breath. Was this going to be the conversation they’d been avoiding for months? Now? In his bed, a mess of tangled curls and twisted bedsheets? “But since then, I haven’t really thought about anything but getting to marry you. I haven’t seriously dated anyone since then- not without that thought of getting to be at the end of an aisle you get to walk down to me.” He pulled himself away from Magnolia and dug around in his bedside drawer and when he rolled back over, he held the little paper ring up between the two of them, “I guess I’m just trying to…” he paused, sucked in a deep breath, and asked, “Why don’t we just go as Mr. & Mrs. Whetstone instead? Would you marry me and give me the honor of making you my forever partner? Even more so than you already are.”
“Maybe I’m not so sweet after all. It’s not fair if only Nic gets to have all the fun” She nudged him lightly, jumping with a laugh at his squeeze. “I mean, that’s proof enough that its definitely not something people would think I’d wear.” Lia nodded a few times--Mr. and Mrs. Smith, that was perfect. After all, she already had dresses like that...well, not exactly like that, but she could find one easily. Plus, getting to see Jack in a suit was not her idea of a bad night, that’s for sure. It was a masquerade ball too! So they’d fit right in--wow, there really couldn’t have been a better costume idea. Her mind wandered around the idea again, trying to figure out just where she was going to get a thigh holster in Chicago--and also how to put one on. Maybe she’d get Moira to help her...Blinking a few times, she heard Jack use her name and her eyes locked with his. Something was different in the way he looked at her and she chewed her lip lightly, suddenly slightly nervous. Slowly nodding as she sat up, she listened, suddenly she was immediately back in that chair, all the way in South Carolina, looking at her momma as if she was crazy--when in reality she believed this might have been the only good thing she’d ever done. Marrying Jack was the one part of her future she had never wanted to change--and finding him again reignited a slight bit of hope that maybe it wouldn’t have to. She knew it was a long time coming if that were the case, right? Right? There was...was no way--was there? Magnolia heard the words he was saying--the words that echoed exactly what she felt but it wasn’t until a small, crafted paper ring appeared between them that Lia felt herself gasp loudly. Her hand flew to her mouth as she looked at him, the ring, and him again. No, this had to be a dream--there was no way he was proposing to her--and yet… “Jack--” Her mind spun, trying to find words to complete her though, the moment rendering her speechless in the best way. “Yes!” She finally managed to say, in between laughs and sniffles. It didn’t matter to her that they hadn’t ever said they were a couple--or been on a date. Magnolia Barnes had always known what her answer would have been if he had asked her to marry him--that was a choice she had made on her own years ago and one that had not changed. “Of course--of course. I can think of no better way I’d ever want to spend the rest of my life, Jack Whetstone. No better way.” Without thinking, she pulled him into a kiss--perhaps with slightly more force than she had anticipated. “Oops,” She giggled slightly, “Sorry.”
Jack felt his heart throb in his chest- the moment of silence that lingered between the two of them as he got his words out and just before she answered felt like a million years and less than a second all in one moment. Her ‘yes!’ had him laughing, tears maybe brimming his eyes (not that he’d admit that) and he eagerly leaned into the kiss, not at all minding the way their teeth clashed together as he went. Jack pulled back after a few more kisses and hopped out of bed- he followed the movement with half a happy dance and half a pace across the room, “Okay- we gotta call Momma, I’ll call the private jet company- Vegas sounds good, right? Not that either of us would normally get married there, but that makes sense, right? We’ll find a photographer and get married tomorrow morning. Halloween. Fly back just in time for the gala and then… surprise everyone?” Jack bit his lip- while he may not have been a planner like his fiance, he still liked to have things in order. “We’ll get you a dress in Vegas. Maybe get Elvis to marry us, too?” Jack was certain that his Momma would never let him get away with only an elopement, so the idea of having fun with the first ceremony- one for just the two of them (plus his momma), was his ideal perfect day. Jack jumped back on the bed and pulled Magnolia into another kiss, “Come on’, future Mrs. Whetstone- we got a lot to do and you still gotta go see Moira.”
A wash of utter joy spread over Magnolia’s entire being as she watched him react to her acceptance and she couldn’t help but laugh along with him--with her fiance. She wasn’t sure she could smile much wider than she currently was--but it was impossible for her not to try at that thought. Fiance. Future Husband. How long has she thought about that far off idea--and now it was here. Like really really here. “Wait--today?” Lia looked over at him pacing, blinking a few times as she caught up with what he was saying. “You mean like...like actually get married today?” The idea was--well, he was right. It wasn’t like either of them to do this and yet...it also made complete sense. Lia had just said she wanted to do something unexpected--and getting married out of the blue was pretty much the epitome of that. Though, as big of a risk as it was, it also felt like...common sense. Of course they’d get married today--how long had they already waited, in a relationship or not? For once in her life, the blonde had no reservations about this idea. Another laugh erupted from her chest and she nodded quickly. “For someone who doesn’t like to plan ahead, you sure are impressive in the moment. But yes--that sounds absolutely perfect. And honestly very easy--who said planning a wedding was hard?” She teased, kissing him back with a grin and doing her best to not get caught up in the moment again--not an easy feat. “Mmm, I’m up, I’m up--you’re little plan to get me out of bed worked a little too well. But go call your Momma, Mr. Whetstone, before her superpower figures it out and you’re in hot water.” Lia giggled, tugging gently on his curl as she skipped to the bathroom--there sure was a lot to do, no time to waste.

You bounced on the balls of your feet, excited for a chance to get out of the busy city. The school had arranged a camping trip for your grade. They were shipping everyone upstate to learn about nature conservation or whatever. You couldn’t wait.
The bus was chaotic, but that was nothing new. As with any bus, there were certain sections that stereotyped a person. The hooligans sat in the back and seemed to be putting on a circus. Meanwhile, the ~quirky~ crowd sat up front. Everyone knows the ones I’m talking about, every school has them. The sweet spot, you discovered, was somewhere in the middle but close enough to the front to avoid mysterious projectiles from the back. That’s where you and your friends sat.
You had met Peter in freshman year, when you two were assigned as lab partners. You just couldn’t help not being friends with him. It didn’t take long for feelings to evolve. True, he was good looking. You would be one of the first to admit that. But it was his personality that really did you in. He was too bubbly and kindhearted to avoid. You loved the way his eyes lit up when he had an idea, and how he didn’t think he was too cool to build with Legos, and…
Wait, why am I still rambling about this?
It’s your crush. You know why you like him.
Anyways, back to the story.
“Hello? Earth to Y/N?” You blinked, realizing that Peter was waving a hand in front of your face. You gave him a sheepish grin.
“Sorry, zoned out again. What were you saying?” Peter raised a brow at you.
“Ned was trying to bribe me into eating a bug when we get there. You’ve been zoning out a lot lately.” Ned leaned over, a shit-eating grin plastered across his face.
“Yeah, I wonder why.” Your face reddened. Ned found out about your not-so-little crush last summer. It’s no surprise, considering you weren’t exactly subtle about it. It’s a wonder that Peter hadn’t caught on.
“Just tired, I guess. Didn’t drink any coffee this morning,” you quickly explained. Peter nodded and went back to talking about how he was not going to be eating bugs. You glared at Ned, who just laughed at you.
You were beyond ecstatic when the bus stopped. As you grabbed your bag and followed the conga-line out, you complained that your legs felt like jello from sitting so long. The teachers herded everyone onto the camping grounds and handed out the tents. For a school full of geniuses, you’d think setting up a tent would be fairly simple.
Apparently not.
It was nearly dark by the time everyone was finished, so, instead of going on the hike the original itinerary included, everyone settled on having a bonfire and roasting marshmallows.
As it turns out, Peter is absolutely useless when it comes to roasting a marshmallow. He either turns it into a fireball or drops it in the dirt on accident. Being the wilderness extraordinaire that you are, you offered to make a couple of s’mores for him. You went to hand him the chocolatey-gooey-goodness, but he just stared at you with wide eyes.
“Y/N, don’t freak out. There’s a giant spider on your shoulder.” You froze, slowly looking towards your shoulder.
“Oh my god. Where?”
“It just ran down your back.”
“Ew! Get it off!” you screeched, swatting at your back. “Peter, is it gone?” He just continued to stare at you. “Peter, help me get it off!” His facade cracked, and Peter dissolved into a fit of giggles. You narrowed your eyes at him and scoffed. “There’s no spider, isn’t there?”
“Sorry, I just had to get you.” He held out a hand, expecting you to hand over the s’more. You shook your head.
“Oh, no. No, no, no, no. After that? Nope, no treat for you.” Much to Peter’s horror, you tossed the s’more into the fire.
“What did it do to you? It was too young to die!”
“See what happens? You’ve made me waste a perfectly good s’more,” you teased, placing your hands on your hips. Ned rolled his eyes at the two of you.
“You guys fight like an old couple.” Your face went red again, and you avoided Peter’s gaze, taking a seat in the grass. Too bad you missed that Peter was blushing too.
He sat down next to you, and neither of you spoke for several minutes. You just watched the fire slowly die down. Your classmates were trickling back to their tents, leaving just a handful by the fire. Most of them were engrossed in their own conversations. You glanced over at Peter. He was looking up at the sky, deep in thought. As you started to turn back to the fire, you noticed a small creature inching its way up his pant leg. “Peter,” you hissed. He hummed and tilted his head to the side, giving you a lopsided grin. “There’s a big ass centipede on your leg.” He snorted.
“Using my trick against me? You’ll have to try harder than that, Y/N.”
“I’m serious.”
“Then get it off.”
“I’m not touching it!” Peter eyed you carefully. You seemed both horrified and concerned. He decided to play into your little game, looking down at his leg. His jaw dropped when he saw that you weren’t trying to trick him and that there was actually a massive centipede crawling towards his stomach.
The boy screamed and leapt to his feet. He swatted at the tiny beast while jumping up and down. Everyone’s attention turned to him. Some tried to conceal their laughter, while others blatantly laughed at him. Peter spun around, looking everywhere to make sure there weren’t any more bugs on himself. “Is there a little girl lost somewhere, or was that just Parker screaming?” Flash sniggered. Peter froze, realizing that everyone was staring at him. His face turned as red as a tomato, and he tried to hide behind his hands. You stood up, staring down Flash.
“Shut up! You’d react the same way.” Flash scoffed and crossed his arms.
“Nuh-uh. I’m a man. I’m not scared of a little bug.” You quickly scanned the ground before finding your target. You grimaced, but it was the only way to avenge Peter’s honor. Picking up the centipede, you flung it at Flash. He screamed just as loud as Peter. “What is wrong with you?” he screeched before retreating to his tent. You heard Peter laugh and smiled. He looked slightly less embarrassed.
“Thanks, Y/N. I owe you one.”
“No problem, Pete. But I was a little disappointed that Flash didn’t piss his pants like I was expecting him to.” Peter snorted, shaking his head. He opened his mouth then closed it. You watched him expectantly. After a few moments, he finally spoke.
“So, I was wondering— uh— when we get back to the city, do you wanna hang out sometime? Like, just us?” he squeaked. Your smile widened.
“I’d love to.” Peter’s face lit up, almost as if he didn’t believe you would agree. Then, there was a voice in the distance. Not just any voice, it was Ned’s.
“It’s about time! MJ, told you he would ask them out before the end of the trip. You owe me five bucks!”
