audio surplus effects - OK doomer
“Has one unlabelled external control. What does it do?! Who knows! Turn it and find out! Also it has a massive knob. And just to piss you off, the only other control (a low-pass filter trimpot) is internal so you have to unscrew the bottom of the pedal to access it ... And for the nerds, Ok Doomer is a result of multiple cascading mosfet gain stages collapsing in on themselves running into a specifically voiced tonestack producing a high-gain fuzz/distortion designed to make you play the same riff for over an hour until you drop out of life with cramp in your hand.”

Z axis drill machine automation refers to the process of using technology and software to control and automate the drilling process in a machine that operates on the Z axis. This type of automation helps to increase productivity, reduce errors and improve the precision of drilling operations. The automation system can be programmed to control the speed, depth, and trajectory of the drill and can also monitor the process to ensure that it is running smoothly.
RETROFIT MODEL FOR EXISTING Z AXIS DRILL TAP MACHINE Includes Helical Worm Geared Stepper Motor, Control Panel & Foot Switch.Standard DRILL TAP machines are manually operated and thus due to operator fatigue give less production. Bholanath has introduced low cost Z-Axis Automation wherein the movement of the DRILL TAP Spindle is Automatic and Programmable. Due to this operator's both hands are free for loading and unloading. Operator's fatigue is eliminated and production is increased manifold.
This mortized system can be fitted in your existing drill machine. There are different sizes for different capacity of drill machine. A detailed Video is available on request.

working on a new design, a scatterverb type thing using 4 parallel pt2399 chips, but with a footswitch to modulate the time on all of them out longer. the idea is that the footswitch would change the cool washy reverb made up of a lot of short delays into a smattering of longer delays, akin to multiple heads of a space echo or something. gonna be a massive build though

HARM ENGINE - square wave harmonics or digital sonic filth in +/- 5 octaves with 3rds and 5ths
The HARM ENGINE is based on the CIRCUITBENDERS 'Harmonic Engine' PCBs, it's "a clone of the E&MM Harmonic Generator. This was a project by Paul Williams, published in Electronics & Music Maker magazine way back in 1981. The circuit uses a 4046 Phased Locked Loop (PLL) to generate a squarewave output at harmonic intervals to the frequency of the input signal. The squarewave can be set to +/- three [5 + a chaos noise mode in the METSÄÄN version] octaves, and can also produce 3rd or 5th harmonies. That's the theory anyway. In practice this only works reliably if you use very basic waveforms at the input. If you use anything else, then everything very quickly descends into a beautiful kind of chaos, with all kinds of bizarre gurgling digital squeaks and squeals vomiting forth. Its especially effective with percussion sounds, converting each hit into some kind of warped electronic splatter." The controls from top left to right are: SENSITIVITY - controlling the level at which the harmonics will be played. Turning the pot clockwise increases the gain of the signal (it also boost with a slight distortion, the DRY signal). In higher settings, the squarewave harmonics can form a modulated drone voice. Activity of the HARM ENGINE is indicated by a green LED, that turns on when harmonics are produced. 3RD/5TH - the 3 position toggle switch activates the corresponding detuning. The middle position is neutral. MIX - is a blending function to dial in the balance between DRY and HARM signal. If something is plugged into the DRY and HARM outputs on the rear of the machine, MIX stops working, because the signal is split before. OCTAVE - with a 12 position rotary switch, +/- 5 octaves are selected, 12o'clock is neutral and 6o'clock is the chaos/noise mode. TRUE BYPASS - The footswitch is configured for true bypass and has a pink indicator LED inside the machine, the glow can be seen through the vent grills in the enclosure. Build into a scavenged high voltage converter housing made from plastique painted in the 'burned out industry' camo pattern in matte black and chrome. Hand made by grm for METSÄÄN.
Sold.

Thom Yorke's Guitar and Bass Pedalboard for The Smile's June 2024 Tour

Thom playing his modified vintage Gibson EB0 at Stadtpark Open Air in Hamburg on June 8, 2024 (Stadtpark Open Air).
The Smile’s tour back in March was their first since the release of Wall of Eyes on January 26, 2024. However, much of that album had already been recorded at Abbey Road in early 2023. As such, a lot of the instruments used on the album were already known, since the band had testing new tracks on the road since 2022. Even so, the band brought plenty of surprises for the March tour, using the new gear both to play tracks off the album and for songs that are as yet unreleased.
The band’s setup for the latest July tour is quite similar to their setup in March, but Thom continues to experiment with new effects on the top row of his guitar and bass pedalboard. As we mentioned in our last post, his vocal pedalboard has remained nearly identical for the past few years. On this tour, it seems that Thom is particularly interested in experimenting with analog delays for his electric guitar. He already had an EQD Disaster Transport and an EHX Deluxe Memory Man XO back in March, but he’s now added a Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude to the mix! (Thom’s Death By Audio Echo Dream 2 uses a PT2399 chip, which is technically digital but is meant function similar to analog delay chips, giving even more "analog" tones.)
Thom has also removed his EarthQuaker Devices Grand Orbiter V3 (he actually did so before the tour in March). That pedal was pretty essential to Bodies Laughing, so it seems unlikely that the band will play that track again, unless Thom has decided to use a cleaner guitar tone for the track.
The bottom row has remained the same since the Smile's Nov-Dec 2022 Tour (analysis of that board here). Those pedals provide his core guitar sounds, and are used consistently to perform songs off of A Light For Attracting Attention.
Complete Pedal List
Bottom Row, Right-To-Left:
Boss TU3 tuner (for bass)
Boss TU3 tuner (for guitar)
Boss RE20 Space Echo delay
Death By Audio Echo Dream 2 fuzz/delay
Pladask Elektrisk Fabrikat V3 granular sampler
Death By Audio Interstellar Overdriver
Earthquaker Devices Astral Destiny reverb
Top Row, Right-To-Left:
Earthquaker Devices Disaster Transport Legacy Reissue delay
Earthquaker Devices Plumes overdrive
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man XO delay
Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude delay
Earthquaker Devices Blumes overdrive
Origin Effects Cali76 compressor
Earthquaker Devices Hoof fuzz
As in the past, there also appears to be an Electro-Harmonix Hum Debugger hidden under the shelf at the back of the board (look behind the Blumes and Meet Maude). Thom uses the Debugger to reduce hum when using his vintage bass guitars with single coils.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/eb8cee09805f5872f4662bb359a1c479/fe58d183f0bc8298-ed/s250x250_c1/ecc58e1edd1398b9488847f3d895de239b3ef34d.jpg)

The front edge of the Hum Debugger's silver enclosure and its footswitch can be just barely made out. The second image has increased exposure, revealing the "electro-harmonix" text on the face of the pedal.
Power Supply
Also note the evenly spaced white “blocks” in the shadows of the shelf. The white blocks are connections for power on The Gig Rig’s Distributor and/or Isolators units. These show that Thom is still using The Gig Rig’s Generator power system. Ed was the first member of Radiohead to use The Gig Rig’s power supplies back in 2014, when the company assembled their first custom pedalboard for Ed. Thom switched over around 2021, when The Smile played their first show on a Glastonbury live stream. The power supplies are clearly visible on Thom’s NPR Tiny Desk board from November 2022 as well.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fe5ee8ac44ff884843861096db396604/fe58d183f0bc8298-30/s400x600/561a9f05221e241815b82fe43cda9c92ea12e46e.jpg)
Zooming in to get a better look at the Gig Rig power supply units.
Patchbay
All of The Smile’s custom black plywood pedalboards are fitted with patchbays at the back. A patchbay is just a set of jacks, which allow external cables to be plugged into the back of the pedalboard instead of connecting the cable directly to pedals on the board. The other side of the patchbay is connected to the first and last pedals in the signal chain with normal patch cables. This makes it way easier to set up the board, and also to swap out an entire pedalboard if there’s a mystery problem (as mentioned in our March Rehearsal Setup post, Thom and Jonny each have a (nearly) identical backup board).
Bass Guitar Signal Chain
The exact sequence of the guitar chain is too complex to guess at, but based on previous tours it’s possible to have a good guess about the bass signal chain.
Bass Guitar
Patchbay (input)
Electro-Harmonix Hum Debugger
Boss TU3 tuner
Earthquaker Devices Blumes
Origin Effects Cali76 compressor
Earthquaker Devices Hoof fuzz
Patchbay (output)
DI Box (sends signal to amplifier and FOH mixer)
Fender Super Bassman amplifier

Here's a bonus photo of Thom playing his vintage Fender Jazz bass during Read the Room at the Northside Festival in Aarhus on June 6, 2024 (photo by Joshua Mellin via Flood Magazine). Thom previously used his modified vintage Gibson EB0 bass for the song, but he's been using the Jazz Bass since the start of the March 2024 tour. His Hum Debugger pedal probably helps when he's playing this guitar, since the instrument features single coils.

i built up a quick footswitch from an old enclosure so I could trigger the memory loop of the px1100. this thing is so much fun to play with.
I’m thinking I’ll make a dual switch that includes a true bypass send and return as well as the memory trigger switch so I can actually incorporate it into my guitar setup.

EVH has unveiled two new additions to its James Brown-designed 5150 Iconic Series, launching 15W 1x10 and 60W 2x12 combos.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/aac64ec21ffd57839172db0ab8af1ea5/9fa0643e2e9d807b-e4/s540x810/27c464e66fe7ece403f0e93fd6884f8c1e272669.jpg)
Both guitar amps retain the versatility of their 2021 forebears, boasting two channels, each with additional voices, spanning clean to ultra-high gain and everything in between.
Naturally, the differences lie in the output and speaker configurations. The 5150 Iconic Series 60W 2x12 Combo boasts a 60-watt output via two ECC83 preamp tubes and a pair of 6L6 power tubes, delivered through two 12” EVH Celestion Custom speakers.
The diminutive 5150 Iconic Series 15W 1x10 Combo, on the other hand, offers 15 watts of output, with two ECC83 preamp tubes and a sole 6L6, while the downsized chassis features a single 10” EVH Celestion Custom speaker.
Given its compact measurements, the 15-watter offers a slightly streamlined feature set – when compared with other Iconic models, there’s no onboard noise gate or boost and just a 1/8”, rather than XLR, emulated line out.
But that’s weighed up against its $799 price tag, which makes it the cheapest 5150 Iconic model in the range and a handy recording amp, particularly given its 1/4 power level switch.
The 60W 2x12, meanwhile, is a full-fat 5150 Iconic through and through, boasting that extra boost – which pumps out an additional 10dB of footswitchable volume and 8dB of front-end gain – as well as a noise gate for the gained-up second channel.
There’s also an XLR DI out with speaker sim, plus the 1/4 power level switch, while the price tag rings up at $1,399 – an extra $500 over the existing 40W 1x12 combo.
Both amps feature separate Gain and Level controls for each channel, plus global Reverb, Resonance and Presence controls, and a shared three-band EQ. They’re both available in black and ivory finishes, too.
The Iconic Series evolved out of the late Eddie Van Halen’s desire to create a more affordable, fully featured amp, a concept that was realized by original 5150 designer James Brown and EVH Gear’s head honcho Matt Bruck.
“I remember A/B’ing the 5150 Iconic against every other 5150 amp that we had ever put out, and in my view it was able to hang with everything respectably, which was the goal,” Bruck told Guitar World.
“I’m incredibly proud of it and the combos that are going to be available for Iconic. Even if you don’t have a lot of money you’ll be able to afford a combo that just smokes. Releasing the Iconic was a real moment.”
Accordingly, we have high hopes for these two new combos – we proclaimed that the 40-watt combo delivered “unbeatable value” in our review last year.
Both combos will launch in April. For more info on the 5150 Iconic Series, head to EVH Gear.

We've made a new pedal!
youtube
Here's the first teaser for our new Pitch Magpie pedal, a pitch shifter that aims to capture the best of the weirdest pitch shifters from the 90s...
Background
For the past couple years, we've been trying to make a delay-based pitch shifter that sounds good. It hasn't been easy. There's a reason that most pitch shifters have switched to FFT-based algorithms: latency. There's a reason the monophonic Whammy is more popular than the delay-based PS3. Usually, to make a delay-based shifter sound decent, you need to use long delay times, which creates some serious latency. That's fine for organ type effects, but it can be pretty limiting. In contrast, reduce that latency too much and you've got a metallic ring mod, especially on the lowest string of the guitar. But with some tweaking and some crossfade tricks, we think we've found the perfect middle ground. And although there's still a tiny bit of lag, you probably won't care once you add the filters or vibrato haha!
Why filters and vibrato? Well, when I have used those old delay-based shifters, I always thought they sounded best when combined with other pedals — especially for creating special effects! So I though: what if those effects were combined with the shifter? Not just slapped on after the pitch shifting circuit, but actually integrated into the circuit, so that turning up the feedback ("overtone") effects the filter or the vibrato too. The results were even better than we hoped! Sure, it's nice that the pedal can double as a random chorus or a modulated highpass with the pitch shifter section disabled. But turn on the pitch shifter, and the resonance of the filter and the overtones of the pitch shifter start to interact as you turn up the feedback. And if you set the shifter near minimum with high feedback, you get all sorts of comb filter effects. With just a few knobs, the possibilities are really surprising!
Features
It's hard to express how many ideas and variables we packed into the Pitch Magpie. But the three modes are a start. Each is based around the same core pitch shifter, but each offers a unique effect:
Glis Mode (“glissando”) generates an auto-slide, adding a pitch slide when the input signal goes over a certain threshold (think: Hounds). The slide time is controlled by the param knob, which also selects between two slide shapes (basic or U-shaped).
Res Mode applies a resonant filter, selectable between lowpass and highpass with random modulation options. There’s always a bit of resonance, but turning up the overtone knob adds even more, with feedback and oscillation at extreme high settings.
Vib Mode applies vibrato to the the wet signal. Setting the pitch knob to center bypasses the pitch shifter, allowing you to create chorus effects by blending the dry signal. It can even work as a random vibrato (tape warble) with the param knob at max.
With all of our pedals, we try to keep the controls as concise and performance-friendly as possible. We could easily make this kind of pedal with a ton of knobs. But we wanted to find sweet spots and make it quick to move between them. Though we also made sure to give enough adjustment for things to get weird!
The Pitch Magpie's Param knob on takes this idea to the extreme. The knob is most dramatic on the Res mode: left of center, it controls the frequency of a lowpass filter; right of center, it controls the frequency of a highpass filter. But set the knob to minimum and it randomly modulates the frequency of the lowpass. As maximum, it does the same for the highpass.
The Pitch knob is quantized to the semitone, offering 31 distinct settings. For continuous pitch control (for whammy-style effects or microtonal adjustments), the expression input can be used.
As on the Oxford Drive and EQ-201, the footswitch is configured for “flexible” bypass. Tap the switch briefly to turn the pedal on and off. But hold down the footswitch, and it was act as a momentary switch, keeping the pedal active until you release it. This seems particularly useful with this pedal, especially on more chaotic settings. You can also alternate the default bypass state of the pedal by holding down the footswitch while plugging in the power jack.
