In Paper Mario: The Origami King, a Toad is stuck in the wood pile next to the Toad's BBQ Foodeatery in the Whispering Woods area. There are actually two ways the Toad can behave after being rescued, depending on whether Mario found the hidden Question Block near him beforehand.

Top: if the block was not found, the Toad is sad that he is still creased, and keeps looking at the spot where the block is. Finding the block uncreases the Toad.

Bottom: if the block was found before rescuing the Toad, he will instead immediately become uncreased upon seeing the block, with unique dialogue that he suspected the place to contain something hidden.

2nd picture(my own headcanons): After his defeat at the hands of the Mario Bros. and Bowser, Fawful had to find himself a new calling when he found himself alive after the fight, something that didn't involve such horrors...and sure enough, he recalled his sheer talent and enjoyment when cooking. And so, Fawful's Foodeatery came to be, and has been successful since.
