Stray Kids - review of five star
I donât have any friends IRL who are into K pop so Iâm spilling my thoughts onto my Tumblr because this place is made for niche interests you canât find elsewhere.
My first thoughts on the album:
Iâve never bought a K pop album before but looking online I could see how elaborately packaged they are. However, Iâm a dusty millennial and still expected a CD case for my album and instead got a photobook with a CD slotted on the back page. Like, Iâm so embarrassed! I want to give away my photobook and just keep the actual CD and the sticker sheets because⊠you know, stickers are fun. I canât wait to blast the CD while driving my car.
Now onto the songs:
The teasers got me so hyped. Someone described SKZ music as having âmaximalist soundscapesâ which is a perfect phrase. Iâve been a Stay for a couple of months and Iâm still discovering songs for the first time. Their back catalogue is insanely huge.
S-CLASS: hmmm⊠I love the pre-chorus most of all especially sung by Felix. His voice is soft and deep which suits this part. Anyone notice the line âIâm up above the world so highâ is from Twinkle Twinkle Little Star? I feel like this song is catchy but I wish that pre-chorus could have been extended or built upon to make it longer.
HALL OF FAME: Epic and sprawling in sound. Good opener for the album.
ITEM: reminds me of Domino. I played Domino right after listening to Item and it made me feel like Item fell short. Itâs a good song but does it stack up against their earlier work? Iâm unsure.
SUPERBOWL: the ASMR whispering is not my bag. It gives me a prickly, uncomfortable feeling. The rest of the song is great though and I love the spicy lyrics.
TOPLINE & GET LIT: the best songs for me. Big, catchy tunes. Get Lit has the edge for me as the song builds up. I think it could be played all summer. I wish more of the songs on this album had that kind of epic build up. If anything, Get Lit is too short.
DLC: catchy hook and chilled vibe.
Collision: I really like Hanâs songwriting. His lyrics are so endearing and melancholy and Iâve been slowly working my way through his songs like Close, Run, Wish You Back. This song has grown on me.
FNF: I think the chorus is really strong and memorable. Another favourite for me. I wish this song was longer so I could hear them really belt out the chorus. I feel like it needed more vocal runs and ad libs at the end.
YOUtiful: I adore the sentiment behind the song. Truly, itâs so sweet. Perhaps, this is for younger fans who will appreciate the words. Iâm just like⊠gimme Red Lights part deux lol. Iâve noticed that SKZ donât really do conventional love songs, but this sails the closest.
I know it may seem like my review is a mixed bag but albums take time to grow on you and my feelings have already changed since my first listen. I didnât like Collision at all but kept listening and let it blossom in my mind. I think itâs a really solid album overall.
One thing I love about SKZ is how theyâve made songs in all kinds of genres from drill to psy trance. Everything thrown together haphazardly, pulling influences from all kinds of places and making it all work somehow. It feels experimental and fun. There are songs to suit every mood. I get the feeling they genuinely enjoy the music they make. My current vibe is all the songs Han wrote. I also adore Love Untold by Hyunjin â another song Iâd overlooked before actually paying attention to it. The groupâs strength is in their collective creative talents and hope that continues to flow. They deserve all the success and I hope this album lifts them up into the stratosphere, amongst the stars.

Whitty and Gabriel sat by the fire, the moon high above the duo. The Prince had fallen silent, Whitty tilting his head in concern. "Uh, Princey? Y'doin' okay?" Gabriel looked away sadly. "...What if they find us? Lord knows what they'd do to me, and whatever they would do to you would be leagues worse." Whitty frowned softly, thinking for a moment. "That's a big concern, but ya gotta remember that before they can do anything to us..." His signature shark-tooth grin came across his face. "They gotta find us first, don' they? And these last couple months avoidin' em' have been easy!" Gabriel chuckled. "Heheh. I suppose so. Though I must question your definiton of 'easy'."
(It's pretty long, so the rest of it's under the cut.)
-----
John shook his head. "It's been months, and we barely have a lead as to where the Prince was taken. The king's furious, not to mention the king whose daughter he was supposed to marry." Pico snarled under his breath. "If these idots are takin' so long, I'll just go out there and find the damn prince myself." The General stood up. "You won't. This is an important mission, and we will not be sending inexperienced soldiers out there hapazardly." Pico bolted out the door, being pursued by the older man a few seconds after. "Tell the kings I'll have the Prince and his dumbass captors brought to the capitol!"
-----
Deep in the forest, something was lurking, festering, even. Something dark, something that was never meant to exist in our world. It watches, and waits, for the next unfortunate traveller to enter it's domain. "..."
Entering it's forest, the usually chipper bard sighs wistfully. "...Will I ever find you again..?"
-----
Hex sits on a rock, near the domain of the wizard he had been studying under. He sighs. "If only I could remember more of who I was before... Maybe then I could be of more help." Some people here - like that bard who had came by, felt so familiar, like he knew them before. Yet... He didn't know why. Would he ever know why?
-----
In the depths of a King's castle, lies a chess board, dusty from disuse. Inside of it, however, is a spirit, longing to be free. It is said that in the late of night, soft sobs can be heard from inside the cold dark of the basement, from the spirit of the chess board himself. Who knows what will happen if someone tries to play?

Hey! The FNF Apocalypse mod concept character designs are back! This was something I drew last night. Anyway...
This is Apocalypse Solzar and Diva (Apocalypse Mia in this case). While Solzar has escaped his 5 year forced servitude to the God of Madness in order to find his sons, AGOTI and ALDRYX, Diva is one of the Imperators of the Dearests' army, sent to inform Apocalypse GF about her parents' whereabouts.
Side Note: Solzar is the antagonist of week 1 while Diva is the antagonist of week 4 due to story reasons.
Fun Facts (5 for each here)
Solzar's Fun Facts
1. After the Doom Boom, Solzar was found and enslaved by the God of Madness, a powerful being born from the explosion, who wanted to pervent the most powerful from restoring the world to it's rightful glory. After 5 years, he was able to kill the god, using a sword forged from his race's power to kill him. Soon after, he left, but not before being the first person to learn about the device and it's power to restore the world back to it's rightful place.
2. The reason why he wears goggles is beacuse he had to travel from the most dusty places of the watseland for 5 years after escaping.
3. The reason why Solzar is the antagonist of week 1 is beacuse he had to give the information about the device into the right hands, which eventually happened to be Apocalypse GF's hands, since she also wanted the world to return back to how it used to be.
4. While he couldn't get GF to see that BF is dead on the inside (just like the others), he was at least able to get her to realise that something wasn't right with BF.
5. Solzar misses his 2 sons dearly with his heart, and never gave up on finding them ever since he escaped.
Diva's Fun Facts
1. She, like Solzar, is one of the few sane people in the wasteland, although judging by her joy on killing people now, this may be that she's just a bit less sane than usual... a bit...
2. After discovering all by herself that she cannot die, she became inspired by famous slasher, Jason Vorhees, and became a version of him, with the mask and machete at hand... just given a bit of her own style.
3. Mia changed her name to Imperator Diva after being found by the Dearests, for she was Imperator Mearest's second-in-command, thanks to her abilities.
4. The War Rig she drives is called "Outta This Land Special"... yeah... she's the one who gave her Rig that name.
5. Diva has anger issues due to her competetive nature. Her white pupils turn red when she gets angry.

Friday Night Fights 3/6
My response to @promptsforthestrugglingauthorâs Friday Night Fights for this week. This is effectually my attempt at sort of writing something fun and less pre-planned as opposed to the world-building that high fantasy and my main wip requires these days. As a result I half-built a soft magic system Iâm vaguely proud of and created two characters I want to continue experimenting withâŠÂ
(The original fnf prompt can be found here.)
The Defectors:
Gry stared at the wall in front of her, her heart having sunk into her stomach and been dissolved. It had been days now. No one was coming to rescue her.
Her captor appeared in front of the cell door, a tray of food in hand. âI didnât realize they wouldnât come for you,â they admitted. âIâmâŠIâm sorry.â
âYeah wellâŠ.â she shrugged, hoping she managed to play it off as non-chalant, âI tried to tell you, but did you listen? No."
"Youâre right. We shouldâve listened.â âI shouldâve listenedâ hangs in the air between them both, unspecified but understood all the same.
Not for the first time since being taken prisoner, she wondered what made this particular person side with the Ăbel over the UltstrĂ„ling? What had made them choose to be her enemy? After all, they seemed harmless enough, normal even. She supposed this shouldnât have been such a shock, the Ăbel were still humans after all, just humans who used forbidden forms of MĂĄgiaâŠand thusâŠ
And thus what exactly?
Her brain was not supplying the answers she had hoped for. Â Despite every ounce of her knowledge saying they must be horrible because they were with the Ăbel, she canât make it fit with this particular person who had been guarding her cell all this time.
The Ăbel guard opened the door without warning. Their long black velvet of their ceremonial garment flitting and fluttering along the floor as they walked towards her, seemingly ignoring the way she had pressed herself against the corner of the small room in an attempt to keep them at a distance.
They kneeled before her, the fabric of his supposedly sacred robe simply ignored as it pressed into dusty ground before setting the food tray down at her feet. Â
They pushed back the hood that had obscured their face as long as Gry had known them. Gry isnât quite sure what to make of them now. Their hair is soft and bright, as though each strand was made of actual copper.
'Probably an enchantment,â she thought rather absently. In truth, she was more focused on the underlying reality that the Ăbel kept to very specific vigil over the state of their robes. Why would they allow their garment to touch the ground? Why would they remove their hood in front of her? Sheâs not one of them, in fact sheâs a member of the UltstrĂ„ling, their natural enemy and there for one of the people it made most sense to hide their identity from.
Their actions in that moment were baffling to Gry. Whoâs world had been slowly collapsing in on itself from the beginning of this whole nightmare. Despite her bold words to her captors, she had been convinced at least one of her allies would come for her. If not Lysstyrke then at least someone.
They extend their hand grinning brightly, âletâs start over. Iâm Felix and you would beâŠ?"
"Gry."
"Lovely to meet you Gry,â Felixâs eyes were alight with laughter, and for a moment every part of it felt like being back at home with Lysstyrke and the rest of the UltstrĂ„ling, âthough dare I say I wish it was under better circumstances."
"Oh really?â She found herself teasing, as if she had known them for years, âI canât imagine why."
"What do you say we get out of here, Gry. You and me both?â
She couldnât quite bring herself to believe her ears. She wasnât crazyâŠright? âYouâre letting me go?"
"Iâm offering you a second chance.â Felix corrected, as though unsure if she truly understood them. Maybe she didnât.
âButâŠwhy?"
"You clearly have nothing to go back toâŠbut that just means no real reason to keep you here eitherâŠas for why I want to defectâŠwellâŠâ Felix shrugged, âits complicated. Letâs just say that things arenât what I thought they wereâŠon either side."
"Whatâs that supposed to mean?â But Felix doesnât answer. Instead, they rose to their feet before pull their hood back into place.
âIâll be back soon.â Felix said, carefully fusing with the dirtied knee of their robe, as they closed the door of her cell, âI promise Iâll explain everything once we actually get out of here. If you want to survive this war, youâll trust me.â
Trust me.
The words echoed  in Gryâs head.
Trust meâŠ
It was completely illogical, but she did trust Felix. despite their current allegiance, despite her being a prisoner here, despite the war they were on opposite sides of, she trusted that Felix actually wanted her to survive.

Can Vargas unveil decades of corruption and protect his bride from a marauding gang?
