What was the point of Vanny?

Genuine question. What the actual fuck was the point of Vanny if they gave all of her masterminding, hacking and murdering to Gregory?

In terms of the games, she was built up in the trailers as the new big bad. The master manipulator, the person who hacked the Pizzaplex and turned the Glamrocks into monsters, responsible for several missing kids and Vanessa was built up as this reluctant follower, someone who is actively trying to stop her otherself and save Gregory..

None of this happened. Vanessa is a Karen in Security Breach and Vanny gets like 4 notable scenes. Then it was Patient 46 who hacked the Pizzaplex and caused the disappearances. The Pizzaplex books came out and Vanny has absolutely no presence and replaced by Gregory in terms of The Mimic’s follower. To make matters worse, Vanessa is nowhere to be found Post-Security Breach, Ruin or in Steel Wool’s official art whenever a big celebration for the Security Breach era characters are altogether. Steelwool acts as if Vanessa NEVER EXISTED! And now Escape From the Pizzaplex is coming out, and again. NO VANNY AND NO VANESSA! What? You mean to tell me a choose your own adventure book where we play as Cassie has no Vanessa, despite Cassie's dad working for the Pizzaplex and.... just this is pissing me off. WHERE IS VANESSA STEELWOOL? WHERE THE FUCK IS VANESSA???? You could argue Ruin set up Cassie as the new Vanny, but IT’S. NOT. THE. SAME! Vanessa was tailored made to be Vanny. Just giving the mask and identity to someone else is just insulting.

This. This is why I fucking hate The Mimic. Every step in this new narrative seems like her character's importance is getting diminished to less and less, like half the stuff she's supposed to have done in this narrative has been has been…the roles of it has been filled in by other characters. Gregory is the one who puts the Glitch in the Pizzaplex, but she was the one who originally supposed to do that in the scrapped emails for FNAF AR and she hasn't even been mentioned ONCE in these new books. Gregory has. The Mimic has. Glitchtrap technically has, but like no Vanny. What the fuck? There's no presence of her and she's supposed to be one of the new main antagonists, but now they've completely shafted her character for the sake of WHAT??? So not only did they fuck over Vanny in the games, they do the same fucking thing in the books. What WAS THE FUCKING POINT OF HELP WANTED IF YOU WERE GOING TO GIVE VANNY'S ROLE TO GREGORY???

Vanny and Vanessa were done dirty and they didn’t need to sacrifice their potential to build up The Mimic. Like, what was the point of Vanny if they were just gonna give their role to Gregory and just give her identity to Cassie?

In a recent interview, Scott said he felt Vanny was under-utilized. And the ending of Help Wanted 2 seems to suggest she’s still around, so here’s hoping she comes back!

i haven’t really engaged in fnaf media as of late- i’m up to date with the movie, and that’s pretty much it.

is Help Wanted 2 set before or after Security Breach? because if it’s set after, then was she not actually freed from Glitchtrap? i thought they did that dumbass retcon where Princess Quest Ending became the canon ending instead of the Burntrap Ending.

i just watched all the endings for Help Wanted 2- the one where Vanny shows up, the claw machine one, seems like it’s hardly based in the realm of the world at all. it seems more like some kind of weird fever dream. so i don’t know how much we can trust that 😅

fuck Into The Pit and all these useless other games- i want a Vanessa-based game!! a prequel or SOMETHING. i’ll even settle for a BOOK. but they have to do SOMETHING.

how are u gonna sabotage our main protags like this and do them so incredibly dirty it leaves us with no interesting dynamics at the end of the final game. I do not understand the writers’ thought process at all

Especially considering the amount of lore they could’ve fit in this book, the amount of Cassie characterization, and us finally getting to see Greg’s and Cassie’s relationship.

People care about these characters man, and these are game characters that we’ve known for years

it feels like scott doesnt understand that now that (most of, save for the help wanteds) this new eras games are real time freeroams, the story is supposed to actually be on screen instead of implied and off screen like in og clickteam era, because if a real time free roam or a book like etp doesnt have a fucking story then it's boring and unengaging. steel wool understands this and they try to put as much as they can on screen but at the end of the day they dont call the shots. they haven't gotten a chance to do it again tho bc Scott's been calling the shots of focusing on stuff other than the main protagonists

it's like a no brainer but hes still caught up in making the fnaf games like fnafs original brand. I think ruin did the kind of less is more planting the seeds in your head for you to grow on your own kind of writing style rlly well, but that's bc it was referencing old things that happened in the past, that ALSO were setting up an interesting dynamic (Gregory and Cassies friendship) and eventual arc (Cassies abandonment issues leading her to be taken over by vanny after the elevator). the problem is that it feels like he just for some reason has a vendetta against anything blatant and interesting happening on screen, and that is just stupid and wrong and will make his games boring if he keeps up w it because the games are not point and click anymore they're campaign stories that have real dynamics and characters that need character writing that EVERYONE, even the most casual fan gets disappointed by if it doesnt happen

I've seen every kind of fan be upset at no real character writing in escape the pizzaplex and of course everyone was upset over security breach and I think absolutely zero people would complain if vanny got a game. ruin was so well received because of the interesting things it SET UP, because people are so excited to see it PLAY OUT on screen later. you guys are already good at lore do actual character writing now for a character other than the mimic bc thats the only character that's even getting anything anymore
