duri really wanted to keep things incredibly simple this time, to say the least. in these base online videos, he had been so used to just simply constantly running around and doing things. so, he had decided that he was going to go about this next base online video in a simple way. he took a good amount of time picking out the songs for the playlist, as he wanted something a bit simple and nice, something that was more so just nothing about ballads. it felt like it make sense for the scene that he was setting, as well as for the activity that he was going to be doing. it had become known that duri really enjoys reading, it’s something that he does often as a relaxation, or sometimes to keep himself at bay. most of the time, the reading has been done in odd places because of how busy his schedules tend to be - often times being done in salon chairs, if he’s actually up to it, which hasn’t really been all that often as late. but, it was okay, since having this hour to read was going to be rather nice. 

the weather outside on this day was warm and sunny, a perfect day in his book. there was a breeze, but nothing too crazy, it was just going to be rather nice to be out there. he had grabbed a blanket, to protect himself from itchy grass, and was sure to grab the book that he’d be ready. he set up everything outside, including the camera, and making sure it a good amount away from where he was reading, but a focus still placed on where he’d be sitting. duri wanted a bit of a scenic shot, but not too far away from himself - since he still had to be the star of it, after all. but, he still wanted the setting to match the softness of the playlist, the softness of what he was doing, and the things that would be going on around him. nonetheless, the backyard was set up, and he’d let the dogs out to do their own relaxation, to be included in the video. tteokbokki would stay inside, looking out the window that looked out to the small backyard, since she wasn’t a fan of going outside if she wasn’t being held. nonetheless, everything was set up, and he was ready to have an hour to himself listening to music and reading. 

he made his way over, turning the camera on to record. he sat down on the blanket, a perfect place in the sun to read. he’d turn on the playlist, letting it play softly, to the point where both he and the camera can listen to it in the background. his book of choice that day was breakfast at tiffany’s by truman capote. duri had seen the movie multiple times over, but he’s never actually read the book that the movie is very loosely based off of. so, he was curious about the book itself, and decided to pick up the version that was translated into english. he still couldn’t say he was confident enough in his english skills to read a novel in full english, so he would stick to reading smaller things in english while he was still learning. he was going to dive into the story of holly golightly and the narrator, seeing how far he could get into the book within the hour. truly, he would be lost in the book, but his ears were open for the dogs, and when the playlist would go off - that was enough for him now. 

the soft sounds of the playlist, the soft sounds of him turning the pages, and the soft sounds of the breeze every few minutes was nice. it was serenity in a way, and he hoped that the viewers would find it as relaxing as he did. all five of the dogs could be seen in the view. kangaroo had joined duri, laying himself up against the man. moose was playing with a toy that he managed to bring outside, he was quiet, and really just enjoying himself. finn and peanut butter were both going back and forth, not being loud or distracting, but they were having their own good time. angel was on a side that was a bit more shady, doing her own thing - but mostly looking around at things. simply, it seemed the dogs understood the assignment themselves. plus, there wasn’t anything to really bark at anyways, considering the fence in the back was a high brick wall, that went around the whole house for an added boost of privacy. pages turning continued, and went on for an hour. it was almost like the video was on a loop for an hour, but it wasn’t, and that could be seen every time a dog would move to a new spot. 

the hour would be met and the playlist would go off. he closed over breakfast at tiffany’s, before getting to his feet. he’d make his way over to the camera, before pressing the stop recording button, and taking the tripod and everything down. he would give the camera over to his manager when he saw him the next day. but, for now, duri just went back to reading with the dogs for a little bit longer, until he would have to stop.

the cameras are on,  and it’s hard to ignore the blinking lights that catch the corner of his eye.

but kim taejin’s a professional, and by now — on camera or off, it’s all the same front he places when he has dubu sitting on his lap and his body leaned back against the sofa. a playlist curation, and his tastes in music never dive further than the same hundred songs on his phone. no time to waste or pass when there’s no more filming times, and his schedules have been filled with no breather with rehearsals.

thirteen years coming up on decipher, and he figures the best place to send an ode to his generation of limelight in the industry comes with songs that highlight the music played like a broken record in the early 2010’s. 

now, it’s been filled with wish, charm, knight, origin — so many groups, yet he still has flashbacks of nostalgia of when the souls around him were just of the same feather, same year. it’s the melody he hasn’t heard in years, yet his body knows right where to pick up.

10 out of 10, and he places dubu off to the side while his palms flash up into the air, bumping up and down with his frame moving along, sliding across the freshly cleaned floors. and when he looks down, it’s the direct eye contact with the glass-bead eyes of his own pride and joy, his dog that leaves him to quirk his head and crease his eyes as his grin beams louder.

he pauses for a brief second, but his body has no time to spare.

least not when the music still booms, and the next track becomes the iconic overalls. arms crossed across his chest, pulled firm — he remembers the feeling of being inside the dorm rooms of decipher, still a fresh-faced rookie when the screen on the tv flashes the overalls and the dance. remembers his members gathering along with their own renditions of swaying back and forth, hips becoming an ostentatious point to the choreography.

it makes him laugh again, and he laughs some more till the chorus peaks, and he’s left to dance right along as if he were twenty-one again. 

in this moment, he’s transcended back into the early years. no longer the sunbae people only look to as a guiding hand or a stereotypical talk of ‘i admire decipher’. instead, he’s just like the rest of the rookies, still bare-faced, smile still shining the recollections of his youth as he moves around, eyes closed with how tightly his smile wraps across his face dancing along.

when the opportunity to create a curated playlist, he had accepted it -- haneul liked to think of himself as someone that had a versatile music taste. he presented the playlist and setting, when the cameras turned on he was sitting in one of gold star media’s practice rooms. the light dimmed down, as he was there for one purpose-- the recording started and haneul sat in the middle of the room.

when the first song plays, it’s decipher’s view -- a staple in most of his playlists because of how versatile it was.he started stretching, first an abdominal stretch where he laid down on the floor and pushed his body up with his arms and pressed his torso down. as a dancer it was important for him to stretch properly, or else he could injure himself and he didn’t want to risk anything. this was an opportunity for him to properly warm up and stretch his body before practice. usually he didn’t have an hour to do so-- the next song started playing and he moved form his stomach to his back, pulling his thighs up and pressing his knees towards his stomach-- then he got more comfortable, rotating his legs from one side to the other, haneul could feel is stomach muscles tense up.

then he moved to stretching his hamstring.  he remembered pulling it multiple times when he was practicing ballet and it had to be one of the more painful injuries he has experienced. one foot points up, supported by his arms and one is lying against the floor, the he switches his feet. the songs keep playing, and he goes through multiple different stretching exercises.

when he is done with the leg stretches he stands up, goes to the side and grabs a bottle of water and a towel, tosses the towel around his neck and drinks half a bottle of water before going back to his stretching exercises. starting with his shoulders, he taks the towel, using his hands he pulls it behind his back. the music makes the stretching feel calming and like he is meditating, sure he might want to move and dance to some of the songs but he manages to keep himself in check.

a familiar song stars playing, nap of a star, it is the second vive song on the playlist-- shamelessly promoting his own group but both our summer and nap of a star were nice songs to stretch to. haneul moves towards the mirror, looking down as he places his food against the glass, his toes touching the glass and heel on the floor in a 45 degree angle, repeats it a few times before turning around and deciding to finish off with stretching his arms-- stretching his right arm to the opposite side, keeping it parallel to the ground and using his free hand to pull it closer to his body-- then he swaps, repeats it a few times before finishing as the last song finishes playing.

Sooah thinks it’s a little bit weird to do things and not interact with the camera directly. Maybe that’s all because she was so used to being active when people started recording her, so the opposite is very strange for her. It’s not a bad change, though. She thinks it’s nice that they are doing something like this, so different from the standard, but in the beginning, she was especially aware of all the cameras surrounding her.

She’s not a person of many talents and, because this was supposed to be, theoretically, a low-budget activity, Sooah came up with the first thing that came to her head and suggested putting together a jigsaw puzzle. The apartment they rented for the one hour of filming was nice and had big windows that showed the Han River just perfectly.

A bowl of fruits at hand, a cup of orange juice, and a hundred-piece puzzle placed right in front of her should be enough to fill up the hour-long video they had to work on. Despite having done this before, she felt glad that the staff didn’t overestimate her abilities in this and gave her a fairly small one to work on.

She did it just like her father had taught her when she was little. Work on the outer pieces first and then focus on the inside. “It’ll be easier that way,” it’s what he used to tell her when they had enough time to work on projects like this. The thought made her heart warm despite her missing her family. At least she could have this hour to think of them and reminisce what they used to do together. No one would have to know what’s going on in her mind after all.

Every piece that she placed in the right spot caused her to smile. She felt comfortable, or at least comfortable enough to sit on the floor and forget for a moment that she was being recorded. Scowls of concentration that she was certain no one had ever seen on camera before and Sooah biting the nail of her little finger when she couldn’t seem to find the right way to approach a part of the puzzle. She occasionally stopped to eat a grape or drink more of her juice. At some point past the half an hour mark, Sooah just laid back on the floor, staring at the ceiling as she listened to the song playing and let that sink in.

She doesn’t know if people realize how music is a constant company to most people and how it follows them even without realizing it.

An hour flies by way too quickly to her liking. Her puzzle might be complete, but there are still fruits waiting for her in the bowl, and there’s probably one finger left of her juice. But her playlist is over, and it’s time to finish it.

Sooah pops a grape in her mouth and hugs her legs close to her body as she looks out of the window. The sun just started setting.

its all incredibly simple what he is supposed to do, grab a book and read it for an hour; while music plays in the background. yejun wondered a little about what he should do and where but in the end, he figured he'd show himself where he was the most at home. with his cats, in his apartment ( not the entire place ), just his living room, he has made sure it looks clean and ready to be filmed.

he makes himself comfortable, grabs a book to read; norwegian wood by haruki murakami; his cats walk in and out of frame as they usually do. then it starts recording; in all the serenity, he sits there, reading page by page while the first song starts playing in the background. he listens to it while reading, though it doesn't take long for his mind to wanter. not because it isn't exciting but because he had many thoughts recently.

hitting a significant milestone, thirty years old, he was in his thirties and looking back on his twenties he wonders; would he have done anything differently? most likely, he would; there were multiple occasions where he felt like he should have acted a certain way or stood up for himself. maybe he should have gone out more, had more fun, and played around with his friends; he should have enjoyed his twenties more. does he regret anything? looking back at his twenties, he regrets things that have happened, but there isn't anything he can do about them now. even if he wishes he could go back in time and change them. what use would that be now? it would do him no good to revisit the past, and he has accepted that.

origin's singularity starts playing and yejun gets pulled out of his thoughts, he makes sure to turn the page. there were still many things he had yet to accomplish, yejun wants to long and memorable career, without any regrets.

the songs of this playlist give him an urge to write lyrics; while reading, his head starts swaying, and he smiles to himself while imagining the songs he has written, the songs that are still lying in his head. in all his years, he's had so many experiences. all of those experiences have become fodder for his creativity, as they should be it's the healthiest way to deal with things that may be difficult to express orally. 

yejun realizes he has finished reading the second chapter as the last song of his playlist start playing; he glances to his side and sees tony still lying next to him. eyes shine with affection as they turn into crescents, he gives the cat a gentle pet and the video fades out to black as the song finishes.

as soon as he’s told of his assignment, ash asks if driving in a car counts as a single location. his manager says he’ll have to get back to him, but once ash gets the okay, he already has a playlist finished. it’s not any extreme enthusiasm that leads to the completion of the task, but more so a lack of resistance. of all the stupid shit he’s had to do lately, sharing some music is the least painful. he’d already had to prank duri, which he still felt bad about and he hadn’t even kept up with whether it’d been posted yet because he didn’t want to read the comments, so going for a drive with a few cameras in his face wouldn’t be so bad.

see, he can do optimism.

he tells management he doesn’t want to use his own car, so they arrange one for him and it’s there when he arrives at the start of filming. he hadn’t cared much what car they got for him, but it’s nice enough and when he tests out the sound system, he’s pleasantly surprised to find out it’s pretty good. nothing is overly decked out and customized like he dreams about his own cars having for long drives down empty roads at night he doesn’t even take so much as daydreams about, but for a default sound system, it’s not bad. more likely than not, the production team will replace the in-car audio for direct song clips anyway. he assumes the visuals to accompany the playlist are the most important part. he’s not sure why anyone would want to stare at him driving for an hour when he likes to think the playlist speaks for itself, but it’s better than having to do something more fanservice-y.

they do a short test drive to let ash get used to having cars around him he has to keep pace with for the exterior shots they want to do in addition the the footage from the cameras mounted inside of the car, but that mostly goes off without a hitch and the actual filming goes just as smoothly.

there’s a tension present whenever cameras are pointed at him and that doesn’t melt away because it’s a relatively low-pressure situation. his spine is stiff and he’s too aware of his expressions and driving, but luckily, looking a little in his head isn’t all bad in this context. the playlist makes the time speed by and while he can’t say the filming time flies by, it doesn’t feel that much longer than the bit of his day it takes up.

he has no plans to watch the video whenever base uploads it and have to suffer through an hour of overanalyzing every second of his expressions, but he’s got a new driving playlist to show for it, if nothing else.

the concept was simple enough -- put together a playlist and film a scene that is slow-paced, not too enticing, and sets a mood as the songs play in the background. it felt a bit overwhelming though, to share some of himself like this with an audience he couldn’t even see and didn’t even know. music taste was to siwoo something very personal and something that told a lot about the human in question, and thus sharing a full hour of himself was a big thing to him who was still not used to let other people indulge in his life.

for hours upon end he had sat there, added tracks, removed tracks, readded, until there was finally a result he was satisfied with. the theme he had ended up deciding upon was one he called ‘letters to home’ -- unsent letters to those who could no longer receive them. of course there was no way he’d elaborate thus far, leaving the title of his project as the vague one it was. perhaps it was unhealthy, but siwoo had never been very good with sharing his troubles and traumas with those around him, and the last thing he wanted was for people to meet him with pity. 

letting the music speak for itself, the setting siwoo had chosen was a messy study with plenty a bookshelf around the walls of the room and a sturdy desk in the middle. by this he would sit down and simply write his “letters”. every so often he would get up and walk around, sit down elsewhere and stare longingly into space for a lonesome effect, but the majority of the scene took place as he was writing. his hand was definitely going to cramp up from this, but what did one not do for the sake of entertainment.

as he sat there he couldn’t help but wonder about the what ifs. if his parents had still been there, would they be proud of him? would they tell him that the path he was on would lead him nowhere but straight towards struggles and pain? would he even be on this path? or would he have a more normal relationship with life and happiness? it was rather peculiar to ponder like this -- usually he wasn’t one to give these things much thought, but right now it seemed like he couldn’t think about anything else. he wasn’t sure if it bothered him or if he found a strange form of solace in seeking the thoughts he had never really cared to think. perhaps because he had been too scared to.

when the hour had passed, siwoo felt strangely drained despite having done nothing much. all this thought activity was incredibly tiring he found, and for a moment he was simply happy that he didn’t have any further schedules that day. hopefully he didn’t have to think about the past again anytime soon.

A vlog involving one idol interviewing another on their career, life, etc. in a professional tone. See here for an example of tone, though not in a podcast setting.

Must be completed as a thread of at least eight posts. The interviewer is the only muse that collects points, so the interviewee must do a separate thread interviewing someone to collect points.

PRACTICAL JOKE (#fmdbaseonline1.2)

A vlog involving one idol doing a hidden camera prank or playing a practical joke on another idol. This can be a short, minor prank or a more elaborate one as long as it doesn’t provoke a reaction that is damaging to either idol’s image.

Must be completed as a thread of at least eight posts. Both the muse pranking and the muse being pranked may collect points.

A video covering a solo or duet song of the muse’s choice filmed on a stage set (all muses will film on the same set) with some minor lighting design, basic set options, and the option of live accompaniment (example). “CURATED PLAYLIST” (#fmdbaseonline1.6)

For this video, the muse will create a playlist of their choice of approximately one hour in length. They will then work with the production team to choose a location fitting the mood of the playlist that they will be filmed in as the playlist plays. The location should be fairly simple to access and film at without a large budget, and allow for the placement of stationary cameras. What the muse does during the filming should be simple, background types of activities that won’t distract the listener/watcher, such as taking photos, doing art, writing, eating, driving, reading, working out, cooking, etc. Examples here, here, and here (more examples on the same channel, but note that something like smoking for the video would not be allowed as idol image should be maintained).

Must be completed as a playlist of around one hour in length and a solo of 400+ words. The complete playlist can be included separate from the solo or the songs can be specified throughout the solo. Note: For purposes of this opportunity, the playlist is allowed to count repeat songs used in other playlists for the muse unlike normal playlists for points. A separate explanation of the playlist is not required.

A livestream with a format of the idol’s choice, as long as it’s kept appropriate (ex. playing a game, baking, on the spot cover requests, dancing, etc.)

there were so many options presented to him to do as a background to the playlist. cooking, gaming, dancing, getting ready backstage, reading, painting, the list just seemed to keep going. so it was hard to pick when he could do all these things, but jihoon managed to shorten the list by quite a bit. his final decision was to bake because it gave him a great excuse to do something he enjoyed and didn't have time for, while also working. kill two birds with one stone, right? he had given a list of what he would potentially need for the day of the filming and that was pretty much it.

when the day of the filming came, it would have been a big lie if jihoon said he hadn't forgotten, but at least he managed to find the recipe he needed. it wasn't long before he had everything set and the staff gave him the cue to start whatever he planned on doing. it wasn't that hard of a recipe, it was for a lemon drizzle cake, which really, he had done too many times to count by now. forever one of his favorite deserts. so he gets on with it.

measuring everything he needed, from sugar, flour to butter, getting the zest and the lemon juice ready. he had about an hour to finish this and the lemon drizzle cake look a bit less than that, so it would be enough for him to have a bite of it as well by the end of the filming. he works quickly and methodically, using a spatula instead of a mixer to get everything incorporated. before turning the oven on and getting the tray ready. he catches himself vibing to the music a bit too much at times, lipsyncing but doesn't stop himself from doing so. the staff seemed to busy themselves to care what he was actually doing, as long as he didn't set anything on fire, he should be good. within a few more minutes, he pours the mixture in the tin and slams it on the counter as gently as he can, letting all the air out of it before waiting for the oven to indicate its heated up. he waits patiently, enjoy the songs as they change one after another.

when the cake batter finally goes in the oven, he moves to the stools and sits there, phone out and just scrolling through it. reading, watching short videos, whatever he can do to make the next forty-five minutes pass. he had brought his switch with him, which was conveniently placed somewhere on the counter, just within reached, so when jihoon got bored with his phone he moved on to use the switch. animal crossing was his main source of entertainment before his phone buzzed and he had to get up and check on the cake.

he made sure to poke it with a toothpick, in a few places, before taking it out of the oven and placing it on the counter. he hadn't made the drizzle itself, so he got on with that. he made sure to take the cake out of the tin itself once he was done with the drizzle. jihoon lets it cool properly, plate it nicely and have to stop himself from drenching it with the drizzle. he sprinkles some of the left over lemon zest and its nicely presented. the staff let him cut into it, a pretty fluffy yellow interior in comparison to the white drizzle, and jihoon loves it.

he takes a bite from it, while reading something new on his phone, replying to texts, he knows the filming will end soon, but he doesn't mind. he gets to share something he loved doing with the staff, and that was an amazing lemon drizzle cake.

the video starts, and she pretends like the camera’s not there.

out of sight, and concealed between the space of her curtains. this becomes the easiest form of ‘work’ when the camera captures her in her element. inside her apartment, cozied up to a nice stool where the easel rests in front of her — she finishes off the touches of seo minjung with a fresh bottle of wine plucked from the shelves of shinsegae earlier that day.

red wine, and its deep burgundy colors. one pop of the cork sliding past the rim, and the pull of the wine opener leads to the stream to flood back into an empty glass, no longer clean. she fills it higher than what’s properly susceptible — her father would have shaken his head, her mother a near face-palm at the etiquette lessons down the drain. still, she pours the wine steady till it’s centimeters below the top before setting the wine down, and taking the first sip.

the sip comes long lasting in mere seconds before she sets that down on the side table, swaps the glass for her palette. tonight, she busts out the expensive side of art — the oil paints she hand picks from the corner art store snuck away in the streets of jongro. it’s her saving grace when a dab of purples mangle together with the white already smudged on. (she takes her spatula, mixes it together for a hint of lilac).

one more sip of the wine, and the sounds of jazz that peruse through the air. everything feels less like work, and for the first time — it feels like encouragement to become the person shedded away upon gold star’s orders. public outcry and the smash of keyboards that come from the anonymous face, and she’s told to not do this, don’t post that.

yet, happiness comes when freedom’s allotted, shackles less of a pain against her rule. 

now, she paints as if she’s free. first comes the random strokes, outlining a round shape. because with no edges and nor clear-cut angles, rounding about only feels like it doesn’t come with the whiplash of uncertainty. instead, it comes with less limitations, less borders. just the circles that come freely and smoothly when her wrist clings loosely and paints to a certain rhythm.

but just as the rhythm switches to something more upbeat, she picks up her wine again. it’s fuel by the time she takes a sip, leaning back to see the blank canvas now filled with varying shades of lilac. somehow, it turns into a rough edged lines tainted with blues — turns out, she always reverts back to blues. 

it’s no longer scrapped nor a thought in the back of her mind. instead, her head bobs along to the soft lilt of the next track, head tilting back on one side to the next with her teeth pressed onto her bottom lip. there’s no sight for a big picture avenue, just the free-splitting movements that she’ll go as the night takes her. 

freedom gives her something special tonight, and liberation becomes priceless when it’s her, an empty canvas and a bottle of cabernet staining her lips burgundy.
