He's spent the last three hours dancing and mingling an endless stream of nobles and dignitaries, manner affable or empathetic or attentive as the conversation requires and always utterly charming. If half the room wasn't trying to steer him toward one suitor or another before tonight, they will be now. It's his first year attending as a marriageable bachelor, not just the king's inconvenient stepson, and he's made the kind of impression normally reserved for siege engines.

"I don't think obnoxious balls are something I can protect you from, Your Highness," Riza says. "Or even need to."

"You've never had to deal with them this intimately," the prince grumbles. "Have you ever had to pair dance? There's a lot more sweat involved than you'd expect."

"A sweaty pair does sound rather uncomfortable," Riza says, staring straight ahead.

""Hawkeye, did you just...?" She lets herself glance at him, expression flat. He's smiling, probably his first genuine smile of the night. He leans toward her, about to whisper something in her ear.

"Your Highness, there you are!" calls out a nobleman whose neck ruff belongs in the last century and whose gravely voice is the least welcome thing Riza has ever heard. "Have you met my daughter, Lady Forsythia? Or perhaps you'd prefer my boy Tomas -- prefer to MEET him, pardon me! They're both over by the punch bowl, and if you'll just follow me..."

Something behind the prince’s eyes dims a little as he turns to the lord with an expression of polite interest, and Riza finds there's an ache in her chest she can't quite explain.

Hope you guys are doing well! Do you guys have any headcanons in particular about any fma and fmab characters?

We have SO MANY (mostly relating to Roy & Riza 😅) but here’s just a couple:

Roy has some Xingese heritage. Maybe Xingese royalty on his mum’s side, and his dad was an Amestrian spy 🤔 We just think there’s a story behind his parents’ deaths, and why his aunt never told him about it or them: was it to keep him safe?

Roy being the only boy in amongst all of Madame Christmas’ girls was treated like the baby brother who his “sisters” used to dress up 😌 Being raised in an all female environment also meant he drank respect women juice every morning 🧃

Either Grumman or Roy abolishes the fraternisation rules. Riza is resistant at first as, especially when Roy becomes leader, she wants to remain as his bodyguard, rather than be his First Lady. She also doesn’t trust / like the new bodyguards assigned to Roy 😶

We’ve thought before about the idea that Riza had some Ishvalan heritage. We think her eyes are a REALLY interesting design choice when you compare her to the other characters. We also think it’s interesting given that Arakawa originally intended for Riza to have darker skin, but set that idea to the side when Scar and other Ishvalans came into the story. We think it’s definitely food for thought 💭

Havoc and Catalina start dating after the events of main canon 😌 They’re perfect for each other: they’re the two people who complain that they’re always single and end up getting together. Plus, she wanted a good man in Central and Jean is one of the best 😉

We have an AU but we suppose you could call it a headcanon where Roy and Maria are siblings but were separated when they were young for the reasons in our first bullet point!

Riza and Havoc were academy besties 😌

Riza worries about Ed and Winry getting married so young: what do you mean you haven’t both spent over a decade egregiously codependent on each other to get to a point where you might just about be ready to acknowledge your feelings for one another?

The whole of Team Mustang absolutely despises the Roystache™️ and conspire to shave it off. Roy feels he needs it to look mature and to be taken seriously in such a high-ranking position 🪒

I have half of the platonic royalty au done and half of the romantic transfem one done. I also have half of the romantic Lust FMA x nonbinary reader done. It would be sooo much easier if I didn’t have so much busy time between writing sessions. Makes it hard to stay coherent. But I’m hoping to have the two shorter ones (transfem x Shinobu and the Lust one) relatively soon. I’ve got another good block of time coming up this weekend.

Can't stop thinking about FMA au / versions? of Kaze and Kumo, so here's just my idea/take of them but if they were characters within fma:

Kumo- either he's the crown prince of Aerugo or alternatively instead of royalty his family is simply of high standing with great influence within the government (side thought: keeping some royal angle perhaps through his mother's side he is sort of related/connected to the Aerugo royal family but more distantly?)

Through his studies he learns of Alchemy and Alchahestry, pours into studying both and becomes quite skilled- even learning ways to manipulate the air and moisture in it, carries around various bottles with alchemical seals / transmutation circles on them each contain various compounds he's formulated

White Cloud / Shiroi Kumo of course just being a nickname he acquired in part because of his hair but also from his alchemy experiments (water vapor = clouds )

Is quite skilled in fencing

Kaze / Black Wind although what everyone knows him as is not his real name that much like many other things of him is a mystery (basically similar to how Scar isn't actually his name)

He was there when the order was made and the soldiers came to wipe out Ishval, may have helped Scar's brother in his research bringing in research and things he may not be able to get a hold of otherwise. And through him learned and picked up on it himself and came up with a creative use of having a specially crafted gun and ammo that upon firing it basically activates the transmutation to do whatever he needs it do maybe??

Alternatively he has nothing to do with alchemy and simply enjoys wielding a large gun lol

While unclear it is assumed Kaze has some Ishvalan blood in him- although not even those who do / did know him can say for certain. Only that at the very least he did spend time living in Ishval before the war happened.

"You're no fun," Roy sighs. He stays in his leather armchair, head thrown back and feet propped up on the desk, while Riza stays by the door to the library, standing guard.

"I'm here for your protection, not your entertainment," Riza says, Sir Riza, he reminds himself. Not just Riza.

What would it be like between them if she wasn't his bodyguard? If he wasn't the heir apparent? Roy has an excellent imagination, but it was difficult to picture. What else would they be? He tries to picture himself as a merchant, or a knight, or the minor noble he would be if his mother hadn't been dragged into a marriage with the king. And her, who would she be? He can imagine her happy as a blacksmith, or maybe some sort of scholar. She would be successful, he thinks, anywhere she could bring her singular focus to bear. More than that, she could be happy, and her life wouldn't be tied to an exasperating semi-prince

"But why are you here?" he says, the question coming to his lips in the same moment it comes to his mind.

"What do you mean?" Sir Riza says posture shifting from 'you are making my life unnecessarily difficult' to 'what are you getting up to now?'

"Why did you take this position?" Being his personal body guard is prestigious and paid well, yes, but it doesn't take a genus to see it's a precarious position. She would have known before taking the post that his relationship with the king isn't entirely harmonious, even if the true amount of rancor between them isn't public knowledge.

"I'm not here to answer personal question, either," she says, looking away. If he didn't known better, he would think she was blushing.
