Flynn QA and a request from our Patreon!

We had a monthly poll on our Patreon, were patrons were choosing a character for a TCOL promo art. Flynn became a July 2022 hero! First doodle is a post-poll art and the finished promo is here.

The last page is a concept of Flynn’s location in Chapter 3. This place is called the Vitrage Prison.

Hey, don't be so quick to dismiss Flynn! Picture this: his two big wings wrapping around you like a soft, feathery cloud, making you feel all safe and secure...

Bo's hugs feel different because his wings are covered in velvety skin, and when he hugs you, it feels like being wrapped in a warm, heavy blanket.

((Flynn's fear in regards to Kariom losing himself while deciphering the stars---'how long until our kiddo isn't our kiddo anymore?', him losing not only his memories but his entire personality/sense of being, the fact that it's outright stated that after each shuffling it's harder to restore his memories and it takes longer, and so on---is so depressing. There isn't an exact number of times given but considering how Flynn talks about it that may not matter because the severity of it is so extreme. Plus Kariom broke a promise to him; Flynn asked him for a single day without him using the theater. A single day and he couldn't do it. Duty or not that's a serious problem.

The various themes, representations, and expressions in regards to obsession to the point of self sabotage (or even self martyrdom) for multiple characters---Kariom, Flynn, Milosh, etc---are so stark and honestly? It's one of my favorite aspects of tcol as a whole, probably because there's no way that it's not going to hurt in the end. This stuff will come to pass, has come to pass already, or is in the process of and it's as engrossing as it is terrifying and sad. I can't wait to see what does and how, I know it's gonna make me screech and bawl my eyes out.))

Soil blackened hands stop their ministrations and Flynn's left ear twitches at the other's words---his right is pointed towards the house, pointed towards the kiddo, pointed towards his sick kiddo---until, eventually, Flynn rises from the kneeling position he'd been in, his hands automatically wiping themselves off on his equally dirty coveralls.

"Aye, that he did. Passed out faster than I could blink. Looked like he was having a dizzy spell and then th' next second I was haulin' him inside like a freshly cut veglamb." Flynn pauses; both ears now cocked backwards in a clear sign of aggression as his explanation quickly turns into an outright vent. "The dizzy spells, the faintin', the damned nosebleeds? He could hear the stars---Can you hear the stars? Is it loud? Does it hurt?---despite it not even bein' night out! Explain that ta me!" And tell me what we're going to do when it all inevitably gets worse. Eventually Flynn's posture softens---he forces it to, if only a little---and when the immortal resumes speaking his tone of voice is notably more amicable. This too, is forced.

"....He's sleeping right now, ishul? I'm not about to let him out of my sight so just.....LET HIM REST FOR NOW." The sight of the half-blood gingerly touching his temple as Flynn headed the short distance outside in order to quickly finish tending to the crops was unmistakable and it meant only one thing: It meant that the REAL TROUBLE HADN'T EVEN STARTED YET. Flynn was, in all seriousness, no more than a few paces away from the door to the house and even that felt like too far. ".....I'm WATCHIN' OUT FOR HIM JUST LIKE ALWAYS. You an' Bo can come back in the mornin'. Early as you want." Maybe he'll be back to normal by then. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

((Thinking about the side convo in tcol where Bo talks about Flynn and how Kariom always visits him during his favorite time of day and how much Flynn loves him and 'out of everyone you're his most important friend ' ;;;;;; ))

((A point in tcol that I feel is overlooked is the fact that it's strongly implied (if not outright stated) that Kariom knows what Flynn did/is doing. Kariom knows Flynn's secret. It's brought up if you examine the key to his desk so that means he most definitely discovered something he shouldn't have, the main questions are when and what.))
