Saw your post about how fandoms will try to "fix" GNC characters in media (I agree), and I also saw that you like MLP (same).

This is sort of related but in the opposite way. Whenever I go into the MLP tags, a lot of posts are Fluttershy and Rarity being the most head-cannoned to be trans. They're the two most feminine of the Mane Six and it just kind of confirms to me that half of trans activists see non-conformity as a clue to being trans (they're calling Big Mac a "closeted trans woman" just because of one [1] episode where he dressed in drag to be in the Sisterhooves Social with Apple Bloom), while the other half look at it as a performance of stereotypes (Fluttershy and Rarity are the most feminine and "womanhood equates to femininity"). It makes me tired because Lauren Faust made this show to demonstrate that there were multiple valid ways to be a girl/woman, and the message seems to be lost on the modern fandom. (Don't even get me started on how much AppleDash/lesbianism is fetishized).

Oh I have absolutely noticed that, in MLP but also in lots of other woman/girl-centric media, with the most feminine characters being the fandom's chosen transwomen. I suspect it's got something to do with the "trans women are even better at womanhood than cis women!" thing, like an overcompensation effect. And yeah I agree about lesbian headcanons in the MLP sphere, it's one thing to hc characters as lesbians, shipping, etc, but it's so often taken to such a gross fetishistic level. My self indulgent mlp au

The mane six, and by extension most of the characters who are their age are in college instead of highschool like in equestria girls.

I have the most thoughts about applejack and the apple family as I've modeled them after my own mainland family who have had a history with farming and yknow. That traditional type of American things. (To give context. My mainland family is made up of mostly engineers/teachers but also have had a history of farming both animals like chickens and riding horses but also food stuffs, we go hunting for deer with bow and arrow, go fishing, we go off roading in jeeps and trucks (mostly in the desert) we also explore abandoned mines and try to find gold (though that's mostly my crazy uncle). Of course some parts of our family are more... well off? Less partial to that kind of fun. But that's the vibe I want for aj and her extended family)

Big Mac being older than aj is either almost out of college or completely out of it, I'm having him be actually in engineering. And debating if big Mac should be a trans woman.

I honestly have very little clue on their majors. Like rainbow dash is commonly an athlete because of her goal of joining the wonderbolts, and having aj be in agriculture and fluttershy aiming to be a veterinarian or work with animals (I do want her to have a side business of petsitting, and volunteerwork at the local animal shelter) pinkie pie im thinking hospitality?

I am for sure about twilight majoring in like. History? Like specifically ancient medieval type, because of her fixation on starswirl the bearded who is basically merlin?

tried posting these to my main but the site won’t let me. anyway I wanted to try designing something. here’s a sapphic flag, there's a few versions with simplified stripes (violet, turquoise, yellow, white)

a lot of flags use horizontal or vertical stripes but i wanted to make something with a little more movement and shape. each violet's silhouette/stripes/whatever you want to call it represents a woman's embrace. inspired a lot by the symbolism of the 2 violets on the 2015 flag.

colors:

the turquoise color is inspired by the 8-color rainbow flag's "art and magic" turquoise stripe. violet represents the violet flower, womanhood, and femininity. yellow represents hope and happiness. white represents new beginnings and love/connection (community.) white is one of the centermost colors in reference to the trans flag. the yellow and white stripes beside each other also reference the nonbinary flag’s first two stripes. each color was picked from images of real violets and violas.

design:

a lot of violets fade to white at the center, so i thought it would be fun to include a gradient the flag's colors (violet/turquois/yellow/white) for the largest violet's silhouette. the transition of this gradient symbolizes the variations of feminine experience/identities culminating into love or a sense of community. this larger violet holds the smaller violet (violet/turquois/yellow, re:color meanings).

alternatively, if you read it as the flag's stripes are radiating out of the smallest flower shape, then it can be read as hope creating love (and more women)

One thing people on the outside of the MLP community looking may not get is some of the newer reds in the 'trans head canons.'

So the headcannon that Big Mac is a closeted and trans started back in season 7, but comics about it only really started to pick up in 2023 when a user posted a few jokes about it and the old head cannon caught fan's attention.

However art based around Trixie being trans has been around for a few years, so you may think that the trans trixie head cannon is much older, but its from around 2020. It came up after the show ended.

I think the post in question that popularized the head cannon was something like: User 1: "You know what, Trixie is trans." User 2: "Sure I'll incorporate that into my world view." Or something like that, its fuzzy. People started drawing fan art of Trixie with a trans flag and now its a fairly popular head cannon. There is very little to support it aside from trixie being a "Loser woman who is probably a lesbian, is off living her best life and is unemployed."

So anyways, I'm happy to see all the trans fanart.

(If I wanted to write loger I could go into the VERY old headcannons that Fluttershy is trans but I think that one might predate me entering the fandom.)

I think one of the reasons the Trixie Trans Head cannon is more popular, is because its a happy story. Wear as big mac being in the closet is seen as a rather sad one.
