hate the ultimate guide. heres a few reasons why.
reused art: I understand how hard it is to make art, especially at that calliber of detail. I'm an artist, I get it. but the charm of the original ultimate guide was that we had these hand painted, unique pieces of art of these characters, it showed a little personality too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How stale and lifeless the art is: This is a complaint that I've had with the current western artist for years, the art is just... boring. the colors are pretty, yeah, like wow hyperrealistic cats. cool. but what else? can we see their personalities? what's the book gonna be like? the old covers had that charm, but not these ones. at all. (also is that even... i could not tell that was runningnose and littlecloud. i mean. runningnose has water in his snout, thats not what cat snot looks like but go off. he just looks a little soggy ig, not in a perpetual state of sick.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lack of Personality: this is a different complaint I promise. I dont like how the art seems to take away the personality of every character so theyre staring stoicly at the camera. some of these characters arent all that stoic. I never liked the firestar art in the last hope because I deadass thought it was mapleshade until someone told me it was firestar. firestar isnt this scary, stalky cat in the shadows. not to normal people at least. if i can mistake your main character as one of the villains in your cover art that isnt fucking good. I don't want to see these cats staring bug eyed at the camera, I want to be able to tell what they're like JUST from a glance at the art. Who is that- harestar?? why doesnt he look nervous?? he looks almost noble here, which is the opposite of who he's supposed to be, he's a wuss and a loser and i love him for it. like girl that is NOT mudclaw thats some random cat i saw at the shelter once, WHERES HIS ANGER? WHERES HIS FUCKING RAGE??? RISE RISE RISE RISE RISE RI
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the Characters are hard to recognize, even with the title cards: Who are these cats. who. who the fuck are they. I can recognize a few cats, sure, but thats if I can pick out a defining trait. Squirrelflights tail, Scourges Collar, Ravenpaw's white chest, those are things that are explicitly told to us that these characters have, but everyone else??? WHO??? Like that was supposed to be leafstar?? HUH?? Wait that's supposed to be Oakheart? I cant even tell if hes red, its so YELLOW OUT I CANT FUCKING TEL WHO HE IS. Sagewhisker is described with yellow eyes, yet she has blue ones in the ultimate guide (i dont usually get pissy about eye color but not only are these cats supposed to be distinct from each other but i really like sagewhisker and i would die for her, yes i will gatekeep her from the artist fucking fight me), Bluestar is barely recognizable, i didnt know who half of these cats were before i read their nameplate. thats not a good thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Red mapleshade. Why she red. WHY SHE RED.
Tumblr media
Leafpool. I didn't even know that was you at first but man they did you dirty.
Tumblr media
sol. dude that is not sol no matter how much you stretch it- why is he a tabby?? hes supposed to be a tortie, why does he look like lionblaze?? and even then he doesnt look that lionlike, even though hollyleaf literally thought he was when she first saw him like what?? HUH???
Tumblr media
mothwing. why she anger. also why she not fluffy
Tumblr media
squirrelflight. i always hated her SE art but seeing the whole thing makes me angrier. like she isnt not accurate to canon or anything i just... hate it. i hate it withe very fibre of my being. ALSO WHERE IS HER PERSONALITY I WANT TO SEE HER BEING ENERGETIC NOT STARING 😐 AT THE CAMERA FUCKING HELL-
Tumblr media
yeah, so im not gonna buy this book. i dont even want to know how they wrorte any of the female characters to make them somehow evil or how they somehow make a completely irridemable male character a sweet uwu baby. and everyone has talked about the ableism to death so im not going to beat this clearly still living horse, im just gonna let you find it yourself.

"i don't believe in stars, Leafpool. I believe you"
please gods grant me ancient lesbian Mothwing finally kicking the bucket and Starclan's like Where Is She? and Frostpaw's like Where'd She Go??? and Leafpool's just staring at them in shock "she's right here? She's literally sitting right next to me" everyone else stares at the empty air next to Leafpool going ._.??? "there's nothing there Leafpool.." but Leafpool's adamant her gf is RIGHT THERE what do you all MEAN you can't SEE HER- she's huge and fluffy and beautiful what is WRONG WITH EVERYONE!?
but then oh, Mothwing wakes up from her nap like, yeah I can't see anyone else either, it's just you Leafpool. and Leafpool gets this horrible feeling and Mothwing smirks bc she'll never have to deal with annoying cats ever again and is finally back with her gf- who has just become her own personal god and
mothwing's entire afterlife is just chilling with leafpool. legit, nothing else is real to her
it's the reverse of when mothwing couldn't talk to starclan and had to get other cats to do it for her- now frostpaw rings up leafpool like yeah, hey, so i need some riverclan medicine advice- can you pass a note to mothwing asking her-
mothwing thinks this is hilarious. leafpool spends a lot of time burying her face in mothwing's lovely thick fur to muffle her yowls of frustration but mothwing's very fluffye so it's Worth It
never in a million will that happen, but i cackle thinking about it >:3

so my incoherent ramblings have made kitten mills a thing the clan cats know about in the river flows in us.
i needed an origin for pinefur [who i've renamed to pinestone], mintfur, rainstorm, rippletail, dapplepaw, pouncepaw, and a bunch of apprentices that just poofed into existence in eclipse [nettlepaw, copperpaw, and robinpaw].
i kinda got tired of combing through lists of cats in prequel stories to make into parents, so i decided that riverclan took in a group of loners once they got to the lake. ...not because leopardstar is a nice person, but because any cats that were actively producing milk had all died -- either in the forest thanks to twolegs fucking shit up or on the journey to the lake.
but pine, the only lady of the group, was already nursing a litter of three -- a litter that was almost fully weaned -- and her companions minty, rain(y stormcloud), and rippletail refused to let her go with a group of strangers that they barely understood.
pine's group is a bunch of wandering cats that met each other and went "i like your vibes; i'll stick with you for a while". except they ended up rescuing some kittens that were going to be tossed in the river by some twolegs [bc not everyone can take care of a bunch of cats and when you have surprise kittens no one wants, well...] and then they realized pine was expecting kits of her own... so they stuck together, working almost like a mini clan.
minty is the one with the most tragic backstory. he was actually born in a kitten mill, to the daughter of the daughter of the son of a former riverclan warrior, one who was taken by twolegs because he looked so fluffy and pretty. minty was pretty lucky to be bought, all things considered, but bc he'd never really been touched by a nice human, he was abandoned by his new family for hurting the little girl he was bought for.
thankfully an old cat -- one who canonically met both tallstar and yellowfang in their youth -- took care of him and taught him how to cat before she died.
fast forward about a year or so -- when hawkfrost's kits are warriors and the clans are aware that leafpool birthed them -- and pinestone and rainstorm are explaining the situation at a twoleg den they were poking around with mintfur to mistystar [hi yes leopardstar fucking dies not long after the clans make it to the lake] and mistystar ends up bringing it up at a gathering.
cue the clans working together to rescue a bunch of cats from a kitten mill, only for most of the cats rescued to die. notable cats rescued are bumble, briar, and millie, since graystripe's ass isn't coming back. i refuse to let his fuzzy dick ruin thunderclan's genetics after i've worked hard to de-fuck them up
as a direct result of the kitten mill rescue, many clan cats get sick and die. this makes many kitties very unhappy and has entire clans split over the surviving rescues. when sol finally appears, he uses this and the fact that most of the clans have no idea what a dictator looks like before he comes to power to fuck shit up.
[oh yeah sol doesn't appear until after the beaver dam journey and frankly i think part of the reason his ideology spreads through riverclan is bc maplesplash is presumed dead and neither swanfeather nor tadpolehop take it well]

cloudtail’s daughter: dovewing
so i felt the compulsion to analyze more of the warrior cats bloodlines in terms of genetics but i'm not going to do that, that feels like a bad use of my time.
instead, i'm going to keep writing about the cloudtail's daughter au. namely, now that i've described the basics and gone over some world building stuff, i'm going to discuss each of the protagonists in turn. this isn't going to be about their books, but an overview of what they do across the series. i'll do book summaries later. and then i'll just write the whole fanfiction why-don't-i.
anyway, we're starting strong with dovewing, because she's the whole reason i'm writing this gd au.
section one: lovewing dovewing
so dovewing. i've talked the most about her so this will either be the shortest or the longest post in this collection. my money is on the longest. first, i want to talk about why i love dovewing so much:
i have sensory issues. dovewing has sensory issues. that's all.
oh, and i think her and tigerheart are cute.
anyway, in serious, dovewing is an underappreciated character. she gets a lot of flak for replacing hollyleaf. i hated hollyleaf when i first read the books, so i was happy for a replacement, especially in the form of a fluffy grey kitten, but even now that i'm older and have a larger appreciation for hollyleaf, i still love dovewing.
she's caring and anxious and awkward and easily overwhelmed. she's selfish, but no more than is reasonable in a child. she legitimately loves her sister but can't quite understand why ivypool is mad at her all the time. she's desperate to prove herself, and she's shattered when the external thing she's anchored herself to is ripped away from her, and she really does have sensory issues that plague her throughout the series, are aren't really resolved until she's an adult with kits. (even then, i'd personally argue she's just no longer a focus so we don't see it anymore. given that shadowsight finds her in tigerstar's den a lot, i'd almost bet that she's hiding from the outside world. that's an inference, though, that's weakly grounded.)
so yeah, dovewing appeals to me as a character, but i also understand why people aren't so universal fond of her.
section two: dovekit
dovekit is born to cloudtail and brightheart. she's fluffy. very fluffy. ivykit is also fluffy, but she becomes sleek over time. dovekit stays fluffy.
at first, the nursery thinks she might be deaf, because she's really slow to respond to auditory cues. she's really fast to open her eyes, too, which just compounds everyone's thinking. but they confirm she's not deaf, just, well, they don't know.
her father is big and fluffy and concerned for his wife, so she spends a lot of time with him. cloudtail notices she's always hiding in him, like she's being chased, and she speaks really quietly. so he's like. hey, brightheart, love of my life, i think our daughter is hearing too well.
brightheart is like damn that's a thing? cloudtail is like idk but explain this (and he points to dovekit, repeating their conversation to ivykit too far away to hear it that well.)
everyone is a little aware of firestar's general approach to throw-the-disabled-cats-in-the-healer-hole approach to disabilities, and so they decide to handle it as a family matter. ivykit, being equally young, is mostly left out of this. of course, they don't know how to compensate for hearing too much, only too little, and it eventuall becomes obvious dovekit isn't relying on sight the way she should either. but eventually, she starts to learn the names for what she's hearing, starts to recognize what's coming from in camp and what's coming from out, and that lets her attach images to words in a way she was struggling to do before.
her nose gives her minimal issues, because it's just a little less overwhelming. it's the weakest of her external senses, so she's not smelling the whole territory at once.
anyway, they also realize she's hyper aware of touch. she hates the rain, she's cautious around new textures, and she continues to sleep on top of brightheart for a very long time because mom = soft, nest = not. they don't really know what to do about that, so she just kind of learns to suck it up.
but she really doesn't like it.
anyway, ivykit is a typical kit, and dovekit just kind of sits there. staring. with big, blue (kittens eyes start blue then change colors her eyes will eventually be green) eyes. and just when you think she's zoning out, she turns to another conversation across camp and starts talking in it like they can hear her. but i mean, there have been worse kits starting their apprentices.
(leafpool thinks its a shame they have a fully trained medicine cat, or she would make, well, not a good medicine cat, but certainly better than a warrior. jayfeather does not want that. jayfeather is right.)
section three: dovepaw I, pre-beavers
dovepaw and cinderheart are a good duo. cinderheart is young, but patient and caring. and no one thinks dovepaw will be a difficult apprentice.
she excels at scenting territory, even if she is a little cautious of where the borders are, and she can seek out prey very well. she lands a couple of early catches, making ivypaw grumble, but for, like, a moon afterwards, she fails to catch a single thing.
not a ton happens in this time, to be frank. dovepaw and ivypaw squabble but there's no wedge between them yet. dovepaw wants to impress cinderheart but she can't focus. she can locate prey but she never catches it, and her crouch is always perfect but she misses the target, and she doesn't understand why. cinderheart doesn't either.
so, dovepaw knows everyone is treating her with kid gloves, and she's pretty resentful about that. she decides to sneak out at night and practice hunting. she's mostly unsuccessful, and she eventually falls down the tunnels and meets fallen leaves and is stuck there for about three days. ivypaw finds her, and helps lead her out. dovepaw is thankful to be home, but feels like even more of a failure. this is when she becomes full and proper anxiety child. (this is actually a major part of book one, distance whispers, but it's really more part of ivypaw's journey that dovepaw, because dovepaw spends most of it hurt and scared and hungry.)
then, dovepaw hears the beavers. (in the tunnels, she could kind of hear the other parts of thunderclan, but not the beavers. eventually she's like, "yo cinderheart what part of territory has the loud click clackers." cinderheart is like "wtf.") the lake has been drying up, but dovepaw was born into a drought. she doesn't know what's going on, not how bad its getting. but the beavers? yeah. she tells cinderheart about them and cinderheart is like "ohhhhhh. dovepaw is special. that explains a lot." and tells firestar about it. anxiety dovepaw vibrates by her side the entire time.
interestingly, dovepaw is a lot closer to firestar in kinship than she is in the original (because she's actually kin of his kin), but she's still not super close to him. he's pretty old, and she's decently far removed from him. he cares about her as cloudtail's daughter, not as dovepaw, if that makes sense? like any care for her beyond the care extended to any other apprentice is not because it's dovepaw, but because she's cloudtail's daughter.
section four: dovepaw II, beavers
so dovepaw knows she's dragging 9 cats on a crazy quest.
(why nine? a) i think it's neat if nine is a holy number for cats. much better than eight. b) hollyleaf needs to come so there's a narrator during this. it can't be cinderheart or hollyleaf and jayfeather & lionblaze and cinderheart share their books like ivypool and dovewing, and i don't like that because then there's a false parallel being drawn where it doesn't make sense. like, i could do that, but the problem is, the books don't line up with key points in their relationships. so. doesn't work.)
anyway, dovepaw knows this is insane and she feels desperate to prove herself. she's in front of warriors from other clans, and she can barely hunt, and her senses are going wild. cinderheart takes her aside and is like, "so dovepaw, do you want to tell them what's up? we can explain."
and dovepaw, anxiety child and desperate, is like "sounds like an excuse, so, no."
tigerheart is like, this dovepaw. she's fluffy. she's cute. dovepaw is like. this tigerheart. he's fluffy. he's cute. and they get off like gangbusters. tigerheart is gentle towards dovepaw, but not in a way that makes her feel like its because she's fragile. it's because she's dovepaw. and he wants to be gentle to her. cinderheart is like, "this might be a problem," but this is also the first time she's seen dovepaw out of her shell and talking at a reasonable volume. so she's not about to stop this. at least, not yet.
(cinderpelt may or may not be like "hey hey hey do you remember the leafpool drama? do you want to do this again?")
tigerheart is also super quiet. this isn't really a product of him, so much as their environment, but he's quiet when he's not talking and loud when he is, and dovepaw just feels safe around him. so they get close.
for the most part, the rest of beavers proceeds as in canon. there's no reason to change it, even if cinderheart wasn't strong like lionblaze, having hollyleaf there would definitely compensate. so they're fine.
they return victorious. dovepaw, by the end of the journey, is practically sleeping on top of tigerheart.
it's not really romantic yet, by the way. dovepaw started this journey sleeping on top of cinderheart. everyone in thunderclan knows that dovepaw sleeps on top of people. but tigerheart is big so he basically doesn't notice when dovepaw, who is tiny and isn't done filling out (she's full height all the apprentices are that's how cats grow) is on top of him.
cinderheart is like, "this is definitely a problem." hollyleaf and cinderpelt are facepalming.
but no one wants dovepaw to go back to being quiet, and she's already kind of shut down after the deaths taking care of the beavers, so they all try to bring dovepaw into the group, and dovepaw doesn't resist, she just likes tigerheart. she's going to miss him a lot when they get back, and that's why they keep meeting. because tigerheart doesn't treat dovepaw the way most thunderclan cats do, and she likes that.
also, after they get back, she develops a huge crush on him.
(since we don't get tigerheart perspective in this series, i'll add in here: tigerheart has complicated feelings about dovepaw. warrior cats do not establish a good age for cats to be with each other, but i'm going to say that if dovepaw and tigerheart were in the same clan, everyone would assume they were leaning towards mates. but they aren't, which makes it complicated. he likes her companionship, and he's not opposed to her as a mate, but mostly he feels deeply protective of her and cares deeply about her. kind of like how i assume brambleclaw and squirrelpaw were supposed to be portrayed, but like, done well.)
section five: dovepaw III, post-beavers (pre-tribe)
so this is probably the section that's most similar to canon, but it'd like to do the tigerheart dovepaw shit better. hopefully, by setting up tiger/dove better before, they'll be more compelling now.
anyway, ivypaw is annoyed at dovepaw, and dovepaw is like, "bruh i can't even hunt"
dovepaw feels really inadequate because now everyone thinks highly of her even though she can't do anything. she overhears someone (greystripe? brambleclaw? lionblaze?) discussing making her a warrior, and she feels even worse. (ivypaw also overhears this, but not for superpower reasons.) she feels especially bad because she knows ivypaw is holding back and now dovepaw is getting rewarded and that can't happen.
so dovepaw is falling apart, and cinderheart decides something needs to be done. piecing together everything she knows about her apprentice, she decides mabye the mountain is helpful.
section six: dovepaw IV, tribe
okay we have a travelling book. not that this is about the books, but this takes place in about one book, so i might as well point that out.
anyway, cinderheart, lionblaze, dovepaw, and ivypaw all head to the tribe. why them? lionblaze knows ivypaw is holding back. anyway, we're not covering them.
so they get there and dovepaw is like "too loud too loud can't hear shit too loud" but the tribe kind of knows how to deal with this. see, tribe kits are born with the waterfall in the background, but every now and then, a queen will kit away from the main cave, and so they have to make a temporary den for first two moons, minimum, of the kits' lives. more if it's winter. so when those kits get to the waterfall, they're overwhelmed.
and here, with nothing to hear or see but what the tribe hears and sees, dovepaw is on level footing. they let dovepaw train with the prey hunter to-bes, and she's basically starting over, but she's not that old compared to the tribe to-bes, and the strategy works well for her. ivypaw doesn't really fit in, but they decide to train her to be a cave guard.
dovepaw is succeeding but barely, and ivypaw is still excelling (from dovepaw's perspective), and all dovepaw wants is to be good enough, and then cinderheart is expecting them to work together, and no one can hear dovepaw because she talks too quiet.
but ivypaw and dovepaw do make a good team. so. two to three moons later, before winter sets in and they can't leave (or they stay over winter, not sure, need to check timeline of books), they head home.
dovepaw, senses blocked, is at 200% anxiety 100% of the time, and she's vibrating, but at least she can hunt. i mean, hunt as well as a fresh apprentice on their first patrol, but she's improving rapidly, as long as ivypaw is with her.
section seven: dovepaw V, post-tribe (final dovepaw)
so dovepaw gets better and better at hunting, and she learns to keep track of non-ivypaw cats, and they're finally made warriors.
dovewing and ivypool sit vigil and dovewing realizes that it's not that hard to not talk to ivypool. and she's not a fan of that.
section eight: dovewing I, tigerheart
at this point, dovewing is in BGCH, so this is probably the most important part of her life for this post. anyway, dovewing and tigerheart continue to meet. they are in L-O-V-E love. it's not in the books because we know it's happening and it'd get boring we had a book of them bonding we don't need another unless it's a romance novel (dovewing's silence, tigerheart's shadow).
anyway, this is when the bumblestripe drama occurs. she is, for lack of a better word, bumblestripe is courting dovewing while dovewing is planning to elope with tigerheart. but bumblestripe treats dovewing softly. with kid gloves. like she is a fragile thing he needs to protect.
this is distinctly different from tigerheart, who views her as precious and worthy of protection, someone he loves and would dedicate his life to keep safe. she's not fragile. she's strong.
so yeah bumblestripe can't figure out why he doesn't like her. dovewing tries to express it. dovewing also misses ivypool. i'm not sure who she's friends with right now. i don't have a good handle on young cats her age. poppyfrost? briarlight?
honestly, yeah, she gets on with briarlight and jayfeather. her sense of smell was too overpowering as a kit for her to like the medicine cat's den, but now that she's older and she's learned to cope, she starts to bond with briarlight. for one, it gives her a convient bumblestripe spacer, and for another, briarlight and jayfeather are legitmately kind and caring cats.
(yes, jayfeather. we'll talk about him.)
ivypool eventually begins to make it up with her, but both of them are tense about the affair.
anyway, this carries on, status quo, until the prophecy is revealed.
section nine: dovewing II, dovewing in shadowclan
so dovewing and ivypool are sent to shadowclan. tigerheart is a little upset about dovewing not telling him about the prophecy, but she was ordered not to via medicine cat, and that's a higher power he respects. so for the most part, they're okay. a little bit of squabbling as they're adults living together now for the first time, but they're alright. she eventually goes back to sleeping on top of him.
pine needles are prickly, she likes soft things, ivypool is mad at her all of the time. dovewing is good at hunting in shadowclan territory: with less birds and twigs, she can focus on the important sounds. she's not a fan of frogs and lizards but not everyone in shadowclan is.
and most of all, everyone in shadowclan treats her normally. no one cares that she's a prophecy cat. no one minds that she's slow to talk sometimes and she's kind of spacy. she's kind and she's a good hunter and a good tracker, which is a valuable skill considering their land can get pretty wet.
so yeah. dovewing and tigerheart are basically mates in all but name, and she wishes ivypool wasn't mad at her all the time, but she's happy for the first time in ages. they begin to discuss moving her to shadowclan after the battle. things are good.
section ten: dovewing III, the battle
so dovewing's job during the battle is not to listen all the way to the dark forest. that's stupid.
i'm not 100% sure what it is yet, tbh, but it definitely involves informing strategy. i'm thinking she basically opens her mind up to the terretory and jayfeather taps into her mind and communicates this to messengers and the like.
either way, she doesn't really care about it. or, well, it just gets erased from her mind because trauma. that's a better way of saying it.
section eleven: dovewing IV, dovewing's silence, bramblestar's storm, tigerheart's shadow
so this is past the scope of this au, but basically, dovewing gets "trapped" in thunderclan because of the storm and not being ready to move to shadowclan yet. she still does all of her screaming in the tunnels thing because as hard as her senses were to learn to manage, they were her's and she doesn't really know how to function without them.
i'm not sure who dies in the battle, but probably cloudtail. i'm way more attatched to brightheart. maybe they don't lose anyone. i don't know.
she leaves in tigerheart's shadow because she's got self-worth issues and forgot that shadowclan dgaf if she has prophecy powers. tigerheart also makes her feel a little unvalued by not following her. but from there, things go on as in canon.
dovewing? done.

Note
I am here to listen go on
*drowns you in aus*
Willowshine, Kestrelflight, and Jayfeather au
- Heathertail and Kestrelflight are Gorsetail and Whitetail's kits, Harepaw is Onestar's
- Willowshine is big and fluffy, but Kestrelflight is a little taller than her. He had very long legs
- Willow liked both Heather and Holly, but she only ever got together with Holly
- Willowshine's incarnation was named Weeping Willow (I'm really proud of that name) and Kestrelflight's was named Kestrel Feather
- Instead of Hollyleaf, it was Heathertail who ran into the tunnels. When Lionblaze tried sneaking through the tunnels to get catmint from WindClan, instead of letting him pass, she chased him out, indirectly causing the deaths of seven ThunderClan cats.
- Lionblaze angrily confronted her again in the tunnels, yelling her about all the cats who died of greencough, and Heathertail ran, but not before the tunnels caved in
Tumblr media
For this au
- Half Moon is named Moonpaw
- She's half black/half white like my recent redesign so at least we know where some of her genetics came from
- she's spunky and loud, and doesn't give a crap about the warrior code, much to get sister's disdain (my character development now)
- cats compare her and Hollypaw to Squirrelflight and Leafpool a lot because of their similar personalities
- adhd Half Moon rights
- Hollypaw becomes a medicine cat, and Moonpaw is apprenticed to Brightheart
- they get along well, and Hollyleaf stays as a medicine cat
- she has a big dumb crush on Poppypaw
- quick side track: some little Poppypaw headcanons because apparently how I saw her was a lot different than your other people saw her
- she's the oldest of her siblings and very tall and lithe
- she's top of her class, clever, swift, and organized
- yeah that's it
- anyways big dumb gay crush
- she's popular with the apprentices and young warriors but she tends to get in trouble a lot
- Moonpaw gets the warrior name Moonscratch
- and I'm still thinking about what would happen with her and the ancients because I want it to be important
Tumblr media
Last au I promise
- their names are Buddy (lion) Alice (Holly) and Mittens (jay) because those were named of some old cats I knew and Purdy is old
- they imprint on him like little duckies and follow him around
- Jay being blind makes no difference because Purdy also has bad eyesight and he teaches him all his tricks
- they first meet clan cats in outcast, when they're traveling to the tribe, and they become quick friends with Breezepaw, Cinderpaw, Poppypaw, and Honeypaw who are also on the patrol
- instead of Cinderpelt, and Sorreltail was killed, defending her kits from the badger, and after Brackenfur died of greencough soon after, Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw adopted the kits.
- Cinderpaw is named Stormpaw because Cinderpelt is still alive
- I haven't decided how or if they join the clans, so I'll make a second post later
Sorry I took so long to answer this! Thank you for the ask

Three In Law AU - Bramblestar Brambleclaw
- Has… a power, yes. But it’s actually lesser version of what Goosefeather had. He gets a vision of an upcoming, important events in certain cats lifes. It could be death, but it could be also leader ceremony or a modified fire scene. Anything is a fair game! - Fluffy, tons of fur. Surprisingly have not as many scars as other Prophecy Cats, but hey… whatever. And since it’s “There will be three”, he didn’t got the Power Markings, but he still have the faded out marking from Journey to Midnight. And when he get a vision his eyes turn Funny, because it’s a running theme.  - Most confusing one, but he is the fourth cat. Probably since Firestar sees him as his son or something. They had a huge problem finding that out, since he lacks the power marking and he has literally negative intelligence stat and didn’t realise that his Visions aren’t Normal StarClan Sent Visions but something more serious. And he didn’t bother informing Leafpool or literally anyone about them either. He is fucking stupid, no wonder Firestar sees him as one of his kind. - He loosely acted as the kit three uncle, since he and Squirrelflight aren’t mates. They are close friends tho, and doesn’t mind then Hollyberry or Lionheart call him “papa”.  - Somehow gets along with Crowfeather. Somehow. They share the ‘Ashfur stop being like this towards Squirrelflight and kits, or I will maul you’ view, and are generally chill. - Is not thrilled about becoming a leader. - Is visited by Goldenflower, but sometimes also Hawkfrost. Tigerstar got tired of trying, so he just lets his other son to visit Brambleclaw.

- Bit paler, but maybe it’s because he is ummm dead? Yeah.  - Red-ish nuzzle, from the illness (and uh frostbite) that killed the original Brambleclaw.  - No leader mark, because this Brambleclaw stepped down after the fight with Darktail. - Eyes go funky, normally it’s just regular Brambleclaw’s eyes, but sometimes they turn into This mess. - Notice the lack of chest marking.

Note
i've seen a lot of memes where hollyleaf was actually just trying to steal lionblaze's girlfriend, so idea: hollyleafxcinderheart for hypokits
Tumblr media
Heck yeah! Cinderholly is.. Probably my favorite? I just like the idea of Lionblaze being unaware that Cinderheart is VERY gay for Hollyleaf
I honestly had a lotta fun with this one. I wanted them to look like both parents, so naturally they're a bit darker than Cinderheart and have some black splotches. And, of course, a fluffy tail from both parents and Hollyleafs long legs. They get more fluff from Cinderheart, and its more even than Hollyleaf, who's fluff is mostly around the ruff of her neck, her cheeks and her tail.
Also, I never realized this but Cinderheart is older than Hollyleaf, bc Leafpool is just returning from eloping with Crowfeather when Cinderheart is born(and by extension, Cinderpelt dies)

Chapter One
Jaykit’s whiskers twitched against the sudden breeze of cold that hurled into the nursery. Even though his paws were planted in the delicate moss that covered his nest, his mind was vastly immersed in adventure.
Just outside the safety of the den, he could hear paw steps slowly filtering throughout the camp, leaving scents that only his imagination could identify. He recognized Poppypaw and Honeypaw sharing a freshly caught mouse, and Longtail slightly limping back from the dirtplace with Mousefur grumbling about how Starclan just had to bring another snow, and Brightheart was telling Cloudtail about the biggest thrush she saw -
“Jaykit! Are you even listening to the story? You’re gonna miss the best part!”, Brambleclaw’s sudden chirp brought Jaykit back to this confines of the den. A high-pitched wail made him cringe, as his sister Hollykit cried in disdain. “Jaykit, why did you have to ruin it? Brambleclaw was just about to tell us about the badger Midnight!” She huffed.
“Oh settle down, Hollykit. You’ve heard the story a thousand times, and probably remember it better than i,” Brambleclaw’s hearty purr resonated against the den walls. “Besides that, I think I’ve bored your poor brother to sleep,” He pointed his paw towards Lionkit, who was blissfully curled up at Jaykits side. Jaykit flattened his ears. He hadn’t meant to ignore his father, but everything happening outside of the den sounded so much more adventurous than a well known story. “Can we go play outside now that you’re done with your story?” Lionkit’s groggy mew interrupted his thought. Hollykit squealed in delight and raced past Brambleclaw, with a newly awoken Lionkit in tow.
“Wait- I wasn’t exactly done with it...” Brambleclaw’s deflated voice drifted off as he hurriedly followed his kits outside.
“What were you dreaming of, my brave one?” Ferncloud’s soft mew coxed Jaykit over to the warm fluffy queen. Her body was tightly wrapped around Foxkit and Icekit, who were pawing fiercely at her stomach.
“I wasn’t dreaming of anything. I just can’t wait until Firestar makes me an apprentice so i can finally see what its like to be a warrior.” Jaykit admitted to her. He liked to spend time with the queen, because she listened to him unlike his other clanmates. Ferncloud gave his a swift lick, and gently pushed him away. “Then you should probably hurry up and see what your littermates are doing. Don’t let them out do you. Show them the fighter you truly are,” she told him.
Jaykit’s heart soured. He nodded at the queen before turning and trotting out of the nursery.
“Jaykit! Hurry up, we found a new game!” Lionkit’s squeaky chirps indicated that he and Hollykit were rustling around the camp’s entrance. Jaykit hurried across the clearing, before colliding directly into a ball of fur. “Watch where you’re going!” Berrypaw spat angrily at him. Jaykit realized he must’ve made Berrypaw drop the prey he caught while out on a hunting patrol. He felt the apprentice snort in his face before picking up his now dusty prey, and stalked away from him. Jaykit guessed Berrypaw was hoping to impress his mentor Brambleclaw with his catch.
“Oomf!” Jaykit’s breath was knocked from his chest as the heavy body of his brother pinned him to the ground. “I win! I caught you!” Lionkit boasted proudly. Jaykit let out his fiercest snarl before batting his brother on the nose, and wiggling out from under his body. He felt Hollykit’s clumsy paws rushing towards him and stepped out of her way, purring when he heard her slam into Lionkit. “Jaykit you gotta help me!” Lionkit pleaded to him, as Hollykit chewed on his ears.
Before he could pounce back into the heat of battle, Jaykit was suddenly lifted into the air by his scruff. He thrashed violently until recognizing the sharp scent of his mother.
“You three should really stay away from the camp entrance. There’s cats coming back after long patrols who shouldn’t have to worry about tripping over you lot” Squirrelflight mumbled around his scruff. Lionkit and Hollykit broke apart, and sat up straight. “We wouldn’t be in the way if Firestar hurried up and made us apprentices!” Lionkit told her. Squirrelflight sat Jaykit back down, and he quickly groomed his chest fur back into place. “Yeah. True warriors don’t have to worry about their mothers picking them up” he said crossly.
“By Starclan! Just you wait, you’re going to be my size and I’ll still pick you up just like when you were a newborn!” Squirrelflight chirped at him. Jaykit dipped his head in embarrassment. He hated it when his mother treated him like a helpless kit. It crawled like ants under his pelt, because he knew how much differently Squirrelflight treated him rather than his siblings. He knew he was different, but he just wished Squirrelflight wouldn’t fuss over him so much.
“Squirrelflight look! I can be a warrior now! Watch me!” Lionkit meowed as he tackled Hollykit to the ground. Hollykit hissed and tried to flip her larger brother over, but of no avail.
“Well. In order to be warriors, you all have to become apprentices first.” Leafpool’s sudden mew came from behind Squirrelflight. Jaykit could always recognize the medicine cat from the tangy scent of herbs. Leafpool twitched her tail before turning her gaze towards Jaykit. “That means you will have to  get on good terms with your fellow apprentices.” Leafpool said. She must’ve seen how Berrypaw was glaring badger-fangs at the three kits.
“I don’t want to be a warrior. I want to be a medicine cat like you, Leafpool.” Hollykit declared. She has since freed herself from Lionkit, and had sat down directly at Leafpool’s paws. “Please Leafpool. You gotta take me as your apprentice!” She begged. Leafpool shifted uncomfortably, and Jaykit felt Squirrelflight stiffen.
“We just have to see what Firestar says about that...” Leafpool trailed off uncertainly. Jaykit was confused. He scented fear streaming off of the two she-cats. Why would Leafpool be scared to have Hollykit as her apprentice? He thought to himself.
“Maybe i can help you heal sick cats! Or - Or, i can help you gather herbs.” Hollykit begged Leafpool. The pale brown she-cat was thoughtful for a second, and let out a small sigh. “If you’re really serious about becoming my apprentice, you could come with me and help sort my collection of catmint.” She suggested. Hollykit shot up, and stood as straight as possible. “Of course i can. I’m gonna be the best apprentice you’ll ever have.” She swore.
She’s only going to have one apprentice fleabrain... Jaykit thought sourly to himself. As Leafpool lead Hollykit to her den, Squirrelflight cleared her throat and looked back at the remaining two. “I have to be getting back to my duties now. Maybe the apprentices could show you two the hunter’s crouch.” She gave both him and Lionkit a swift lick, before pacing away.
Lionkit shuffled his paws. “We won’t be able to train with Hollykit if she’s a medicine cat apprentice..” His voice trailed off. Jaykit felt a strong pang of sadness when he realized his brother was right. The three have always done everything together, but now he wouldn’t be able to train beside his sister.
Jaykit felt Lionkit shove him gently. “It will be fine. It’s not like we’ll never see her.” He tried his best to sound cheerful. “Come on, lets go see Mousepaw. I heard that he and Spiderleg got in a fight with some Windclan warriors while on dawn patrol!” Lionkit squeaked, before dashing off in the direction of the apprentices den.
Jaykit did not follow. With his paws planted firmly in the ground, his attention was directed towards the camp entrance. A strange ebbing noise was filtering through the thorn tunnel.
One that he had never heard before.
That’s impossible! I know every sound of the forest! He reasoned with himself. But the more he tried to identify it, the more he realized that this was something completely new. Jaykit felt a sudden urge of excitement, curiosity, but also a twang of fear. He had to go find it. Whatever it was, it was calling to him in a way that only he could understand.
Within an instant, Jaykit knew what he had to do. He angled his ears around the camp to determine who exactly would have a chance of seeing him leave. The only cats close enough were Brightheart, Cloudtail, and Sorreltail. Brightheart was too busy grooming Cloudtail, that she wouldn’t notice a mouse if it jumped in her jaws, he thought.
Sorreltail would be a problem. The she-cat had the sharpest eyes in the clan, but specifically seemed to have an instinct to know when a kit was up to no good
Jaykit stepped carefully to the thorn tunnel. The thousands of new scents were overwhelming, but if he wanted to go, his only chance was now.
Jaykit hesitantly pushed through the thorn tunnel. He extended out his front paws in drastic manners. He was taking mental images so he’d have a clear idea of where to go, in case he needed to make a hasty return.
Confident of the layout of the tunnel, Jaykit emerged into the forest. A strong gust of scents seemed to lurk around every corner. He took a few hesitant steps forward, and felt the edge of a steep slope.
Jaykit had never felt more alive in his whole life. And he hadn’t even reached the heart of the forest yet!
The young kit took a few more steps forward. If he wanted to find the source of the noise, he’d had to move fast before a patrol spotted him. Jaykit began to weave through the forest. He wasn’t quite sure where he was going, but he was getting closer to the sound. It was becoming more distinctive.
Jaykit froze.
The sound was being made from an animal. It was too large to be a cat, but it was stepping lightly enough to mimic pawsteps.
A flash of fear surged throughout his body. He had only now just realized how far away he was from the camp. There were no familiar surroundings that he could recognize, and the animal had seen him.
Jaykit turned, and collided directly into warm fur.
“Brightheart!” He yelled. The she-cat must’ve seen him leaving camp. He knew he was in trouble, but right now he had to get away from the beast approaching them.
But the she-cat did not move. She stood over Jaykit , and crouched down low to the earth.
“Brightheart we need to go before-” Jaykit was interrupted by Brightheart giving him a light cuff around the ear.
“Jaykit. Do you know the creature ahead of us?” She whispered so gently, that he had to strain to understand her. He shook his head in confusion. Brightheart wasn’t scared, but instead... In complete awe.
“It’s a deer” She continued. “Stay very still. It’s directly infront of us.”
Jaykit already knew that. But it only brought more curiosity. Longtail had told him about such animals. The elder said that those who saw them were blessed by Starclan, and it should be considered the highest honor to ever meet one.
Brightheart stiffened as the deer drew closer to them. “Do not be afraid.” She murmured. The deer brought its head down to look at the cats closely. Jaykit raised his head, and was met with a rough wet nose. He sniffed in disgust, while Brightheart stifled a purr.
It seemed like moons before the deer finally picked its way away from the clan cats. Brightheart let Jaykit up, and was beaming with excitement. “I’ve never seen such a beautiful creature!” She exclaimed.
He sat a little dumbstruck, and overwhelmed by the whole event. Now that it was over, he knew he was in for a fox-fit of trouble. But to his surprise, she seemed to immersed in her thought to scold him.
“This has to mean something.” Brightheart meowed. ”Starclan has sent us their blessing, Jaykit.” Brigthheart seemed a little tentative.
“I’ve actually been meaning to ask you something...” She shuffled her paws hesitantly. “Okay.” Jaykit grumbled.
“Well.. I’ve been thinking about asking Firestar if i can be your mentor. You’d be my first apprentice, and i feel like we’d make a great team, Jaykit. ” She told him. “We have so much in common.” She persisted.
Jaykit felt a fire roar in his chest, and he flattened his ears in anger. “Just because I’m blind doesn’t mean we have anything in common!” He furiously hissed at her.
Brightheart flinched. “That wasn’t what i meant.” She trailed off. Something stirred inside her that Jaykit hadn’t noticed before.
“Then what do you mean? What could i possibly share with you?” Jaykit bitterly asked.
Brightheart was silent. Jaykit turned his back on the she-cat, and draped his tail over his paws. “We both feel like outcasts in our own families.” Brigthheart suddenly whispered.
Jaykit felt a ice cold claw surge at his heart. Could Brightheart really understand how he felt? “I know what it’s like Jaykit. To feel ... Different than the others. To have other cats treat you like you can’t even take care of yourself.” She sat beside him. “I know what its like to feel alone even when you’re surrounded by hundreds.”
“I.. I don’t want you to go through what i did, Jaykit.” She told him. “I don’t want you to ever have to feel that way. I want to be there for you.”
Jaykit didn’t know what to say. Maybe... Brightheart wouldn’t be such a bad mentor. He pressed against the she-cats leg. “Does that mean that I won’t be in trouble when we get home?” He chirped.
“Oh no, Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw are going to be mad as badgers’ when i get you home.” Brightheart told him.
Jaykit sighed.
