Frisk chilling Flowey thinks how to steal frisk's soul
Such a nice banner
You mean this? Hehe!! My banners are always cool banners...

But if Flowey was REALLY thinking about stealing Frisk's soul it'd look something like this.
Very inconspicuous...

So when I wrote down that Big Undertale Meta Post about how Sans probably doesn’t remember RESETs at all and why that’s cool - I got a lot of responses to the tune of ‘that’s probably canon but I’m still gonna enjoy Sans Remember fics because of the angst’. And, well... first I want to emphasize that those are very good and correct responses! Like ‘I acknowledge might or might not be in the text but I am also gonna explore alternative ideas Because I Enjoy Them’ is a Good Damn Position to have! Transformative Fandom is Transformative on purpose! Engage with the text and it’s various analyses but don’t let it chain your creativity or fun!
It’s just that… all of the people saying that they prefer Sans Remembering ‘for the Angst’ make me think that maybe folks are kinda ignoring the incredible angst potential of Sans NOT remembering.
My original post focused on how cool it is that Sans manages to be so on-top-of-things even though he doesn’t remember anything - but let’s not ignore the fact that this situation is also grim as shit.
Through some mysterious super-science or whatever, Sans has managed to discover that his timeline is being RESET and altered constantly (before the Player came along, Flowey had already managed to basically 100% the entire Underground) and he has no memory of what's going on and what exactly is being altered.
He knows he might’ve gone through the same day over and over and over again thousand times but he’s simply not aware of it. It’s all the helplessness and lack of forward momentum of a classic timeloop and none of the benefits of memorizing occurrences or acquiring extra information. That’s exactly the thing that drove him into his depressive spiral.
That line always strikes me. It’s like… Sans suspects that without the meddling of capricious immortal time gods, he’d be a much happier and motivated person. But he doesn’t know for sure, because he can’t remember how he was in some distant ‘original timeline’. He is essentially fighting to avenge a version of himself that might not even be real.
Like, yes, it is very impressive and badass how well Sans trained himself to notice every tiny little hint that might indicate that a RESET happened - but it’s impressive because the deck is stacked so heavily against him. And it is very impressive and badass how Sans managed to turn his weaknesses into strengths during his Boss Battle - but it’s impressive because these are usually huge weaknesses. Trying to work to solve a timeloop that you can only infer is going on through context clues is quite a hopeless and desperate mission!
Another bit in the Sans fight that I often think about is his unique reaction if you kill him and then RESET to Fight him again.
With how skilled he is at reading expressions, Sans probably knows what that ‘weird expression’ means, he knows the Player killed him once before and is here to try again. And yet he still goes along with the same attack plan he has, the one he knows killed him in that previous timeline. Why? Because he doesn’t know where the flaw in his plan was exactly, he can’t even begin to guess. So he has no choice but to go along with the plan he knows did kill him, because that’s the only thing he has.
You know, the thing about Sans, is that he always plays his cards very close to his chest. It’s very hard to tell what exactly he’s thinking. That’s probably why so many people do believe he remembers RESET. If any non-Flowey character remembered RESETs, only Sans would be remotely able to hide it so well. But for me? It makes me wonder how much of his Troll who Knows Too Much persona is a bit of an act as well.
You know, Sans’ deduction requires some keen observational skills - does he ever second-guess his conclusions? Living on constant high-alert that something has been reversed or that someone knows something they shouldn’t requires fostering a lot of paranoia, and that can’t be healthy for him. Is he ever overcome with doubt on whatever something was really an indication of a timeline RESET or not? How does he feel when he realizes something horrible happened on a previous timeline (for example, his brother dying) but he doesn’t know about the context to feel sure that he can stop it from happening again?
I also think about it in terms of his relationship to Papyrus in general. Sans tends to hide so many things from Papyrus, especially in timelines where the Player is particularly kill-happy...
In part it’s about his perception that Papyrus’ kindness and pacifism is born from naïveté and thus the only way to preserve it is to hide the cruelty and harshness of the world from him (Undyne also does that). But also, with the paranoia and helplessness Sans lives in every day - is it any wonder that he might believe that ignorance is bliss?
I do truly think it’s beautiful how fandom can experiment with cool non-canon ideas! There are probably so many great emotional angsty ideas tied up to Sans remembering RESETs! I just feel it’ll be a shame if people ignore just how dire and depressing Sans’ canon situation also is!

horrortale king papyrus "ending", aka what happens if horror joins nightmare
i was thinking of making this into a fic or smthn but idk when ill get to that so. nevermind that im just gonna make a post. lotta yapping ahead. (word count: 1972)
so, i see a lot of people, when including horror in nightmares pantheon, say that he was either a) abducted against his will, or b) coerced by food, both for himself and his world. and i dont have much against the first interpretation, but the second… something's bothered me about it for a while, and its the simple fact that canon horror isnt that selfless. if nightmare were to offer him a deal, he would first and foremost be thinking about his own interests (he has already proven to be this kind of person in the comics).
so i instead think that were nm to offer him a deal, horror would only agree to a specific multi-part deal. and the first part? undyne's death.
we already know the whole "eating humans" thing was moreso to spite undyne and foil whatever plans she has than to help the residents of snowdin, shown by the fact that sans himself doesnt eat humans and that he urges everyone to keep this a secret from undyne and the rest of the underground. if a mysterious, powerful entity suddenly appeared and asked horror for his servitude in exchange for something he wants, a "mutually beneficial deal", i guarantee you that first and foremost he would think of undyne. of the traitor who sacrificed him "for the greater good".
and he would get that. i dont know if he would prefer to kill her himself or let nightmare to the dirty work, but either way, its not a hard thing for someone as powerful as him to do. only after his final act of revenge is certified does he think about everything else. with undyne gone, the underground would be left without a ruler, and things would likely get even more chaotic than usual. plus, they would still be left without food and without power.
i think hed ask for their CORE to be repaired or something else to be done about the power and magic situation going on in the underground first, but. i see this as something out of nightmare's range. hes not exactly a mechanic, and he doesnt want to waste time and energy getting someone who is just for another underling. so horror compromises on just food. regular deliveries of enough to feed all the monsters left in the underground. and this is a bit tedious, but still doable, and nightmare would likely agree.
but theres still one more part to the deal, and that is an opportunity to set a plan in motion.
with undyne out of the picture, someone would need to take control. and sans has the perfect idea of who.
the monster who has kept snowdin fed for years; who reported to undyne and mediated when her temper flared up; who kept up the puzzles and security around snowdin; who tried to keep the others' spirits up even when times were darkest…
thats right. he wants papyrus in charge.
i often see ht papyrus being portrayed in fandom as kind of a dope. someone innocent despite his creepy appearance and still rather incompetent. and this frustrates me because hes anything but. hunger, death, murder… all have taken their toll on him, and hes certainly not fine or completely sane. but id say hes arguably the sanest out of all the monsters weve seen in the comic so far (other than flowey and mettaton, i suppose… though mettaton is uncertain since weve only seen him in the past). hes also shown handling a lot of responsibilities, like the previously-mentioned providing of food and mediating when undyne goes too far. this applies to his brother, too, who was also known for having a temper. horrortale papyrus is still pretty cheery, but hes less idealistic, more responsible…
anyway, all that to say that 1) horrortale papyrus is horribly underrated and idk why because i love him dearly, and 2) between the reasons above and the fact that he's his brother, i think sans would consider him a perfect next-in-line. plus, all this power and respect and recognition… werent these all things he yearned for?
so before he leaves with nightmare, he does a little manipulating of the playing field. i dont know what this would be, honestly. talking papyrus up to others? making sure other monsters are aware of his capability and his kindness and his resolve? i dont know. but he does it. and after hes gone and undynes death is discovered, papyrus is chosen as the next king.
and you know what? i dont think he would want that.
because hes already gotten a taste of his "respect and recognition" via being an important figure in snowdin, and its been nothing but hell the whole time. hes exhausted. hes not one to be lazy or give up, but even a guy like him has his limits, and frankly hes probably reached them a long time ago. but the people desperately need a leader… and he cant exactly deny them. reluctantly, he agrees.
maybe a week into his rule, a miracle happens. food appears.
no-one knows where its from, but no-one can really care. "dont look a gift horse in the mouth" or whatever. the royal guard has to tear ravenous monsters away from the food in an attempt to save some to be rationed out. some guards undoubtedly succumb to the temptation themselves. but a good amount is saved and rationed. and the people look to papyrus with a new kind of reverence.
because how is it possible? under undynes rule, everything went to shit, and despite the years of promises, nothing was ever fixed. but as soon as papyrus take control, they get food, a good, livable amount of food, for the first time in years. theres hushed whispers that there must be a higher power involved. some seem to view papyrus himself as that higher power. the support for him grows from acceptance to wild endorsement. parents able to save their children thanks to the food cry and promise him unyielding loyalty. monsters who had all but accepted their deaths and met with a miracle instead fall at his feet. some compliments are backhanded: "i thought you would just be a useless stand-in, but youve actually saved us!!"
and papyrus smiles tightly at them all as panic mounts inside him. what will happen once this food runs out? will more appear? what if it doesnt?
but it does. it appears consistently, on a schedule. the people rejoice every time. but papyrus still finds himself fearing every day. barely able to rest amidst his panic. being king is a lot of responsibility, and he finds himself constantly overworking, so, so tired… but hes still putting on a smile for the public and assuring them that everything is okay.
with a consistent source of food, hes able to focus on other problems, such as getting monsters treatment for the effects of this hell that theyve been living in for so long and restoring the core. he's constantly meeting with different monsters, doing paperwork, handling this matter and that…
hes not alone. toriel would help him, i think. she knows what being a ruler is like, after all, and he is her good friend. but i dont know if other monsters, who rejected her as their queen, would be thrilled to have her even as an advisor. if mettaton is still sane, perhaps he would help, too, in whatever ways that he can. but papyrus still feels this… absense.
because his brother isnt there.
he never told anyone where he was going or what was happening. the most papyrus knows is that hes sure this all has to do with him somehow. but nothing else. not how, not to what extent. not whether hes even alive.
and for this one reason i think he would be so much more tired, so much more miserable. hes lost his only family, his support. the brothers' relationship in horrortale is pretty clearly strained, but theyre still shown to be close because, well, theyre family. theyve always been close. always helped each other. they were always there when the other needed to get something off his chest or get help. they kept a lot of secrets even from each other, yes, but im willing to bet that number's a whole lot less than the number they keep from others. what im getting at is that sans and papyrus are extremely important parts of each others lives, and one losing the other is a huge and unbearable change.
…and yet, with growing pangs of horror (ha) and guilt, papyrus finds that he doesnt know if its really much different now.
hes lost his biggest support, the one person he could tell almost anything to. but really he lost him years ago. for a long time, hes kept more secrets, done more work, put up with so much not to agitate his brother… even through his love, i think there was a mounting resentment and aversion to him… and he finds that with sans gone, he really gets about the same amount done. maybe more, actually, now with food and with toriel's help. and its a horrifying realization to him because thats not how he wants to think of his brother!
he did his best. he did help them, even if it was through backhanded and frankly horrible methods. his personality was a result of the hunger and that wound. if he was here, hed likely be more like his old self now that food is finally available. his brother isnt a bad person. he cant be, because papyrus cant handle that thought. but that resentment is unresolved. he feels abandoned. he doesnt know what emotion to feel. he prefers to just not think about it after a certain while.
and its the same with undyne. he misses her, he misses his friend. but she's been gone for years, too. when he thinks of her, he cant help but feel fear and anger. and thats not what he wants, either. he doesnt think of her, either.
and so hes left to rule in misery. roaming the unnaturally empty underground with the entirety of monsterkind praising his empty step. he has help, he has friends, but he still tries to handle everything himself. hes so tired that he doesnt even lie down because he doesnt know if he'll be able to get up. hes so stressed. even though they now have food, he barely eats. his eyesockets seem to sink somehow deeper into his skull. for the leader of a people finally recovering from devastation, he looks like hes only getting worse, and really he is. every day drains him more and more, and though he pushes himself to persevere for the sake of the people, he doesnt know how long he can go on.
doing what he thought was best, sans doomed his brother. if he ever goes back to his au to visit or something, he would see that first-hand. i think he'd struggle to accept it. would just run away. try to convince himself that he did what was right even as the guilt burns at his ribs.
this deal turns out more beneficial for nightmare than horror. nightmare gets a servant and a new source of negativity through ht papyrus (and though it would also spread a lot of positivity, i think its so little when compared to the whole mutliverse that nm finds it an acceptable trade and that some "positive" feelings, like the kind of god-like reverence some monsters in horrortale have for papyrus, are actually quite negative and feed him still), and horror gets to better his underground by sacrificing the only monster he probably bothered to care about: papyrus.
anyway. horrortale king papyrus. thats it thats all im gonna say goodnight

December Writing Challenge: Day 2
This one's a little late! In my defense, I was studying for an exam earlier and struggling with formatting on ao3, but it works now!
Full story below the cut! (Fonts aren't right, unfortunately.)
It’s not like Frisk hasn’t come across this exact scenario before - Papyrus, pressed up against the wall, frozen in the act of sneaking around the house. Usually he wasn’t even doing anything particularly sneaky; just training his skills as an ex-soon-to-be-but-never-will-now-because-they-disbanded royal guard… allegedly, as Undyne swore that she never taught him to do this and has no idea where he learned it from.
(Sans placed his bets on the hat man. Undyne doubted the veracity of the hat man’s existence. Toriel placed her bets on the hat man as well. Undyne furiously listed several reasons why there is no way that the hat man taught Papyrus how to sneak, not least of which because Papyrus was always caught and she had never seen nor heard of this mystery hat man. Sans pointed out that’s why Papyrus was still in training, and besides, he’d said, grinning, you can’t know if you’ve caught him every time if a successful sneak necessarily means that he wasn’t caught. Only the hat man could know the truth. Alphys sheepishly also placed her bets on the hat man. A dog got involved. As did fire, somehow. Undyne broke a pool table in half. Anyways.)
The point was, Papyrus pressing himself against a wall and doing his best impression of a startled marmot was nothing unusual, and ordinarily, Frisk would walk right by and pretend they didn’t see him.
But Papyrus had a paper bag in his arms, and a bag with something inside it that Frisk didn’t know about was something Frisk could not resist.
“Whatcha got, Papyrus?”
The skeleton sweat a little nervously, eyes darting from side-to-side.
“I AM NOT PAPYRUS! I AM, AH, SIMPLY HIS VERY COOL AND HANDSOME LOOK-ALIKE!!! NOT AS COOL AS HE, OF COURSE! BUT YES! NO RELATION AT ALL!!”
“You numbskull,” Flowey muttered from where he was wrapped around Frisk’s arm, playing on their game console. Frisk jostled him, making him miss his last jump.
“Don’t be mean.”
The game over screen flashed. Flowey hissed at them.
“Um…” Frisk eyed the bag as Papyrus continued to look all around the room like he was about to make a mad dash getaway.
“Um… Mr. Not-Papyrus?”
“HM? AH, YES!!”
“Um, uh, what’s in the bag?”
“W-WHAT BAG?”
“That bag,” said Frisk, pointing.
“OH!!! THAT BAG! YES!! …IT’S A SECRET!!!”
“Aw,” Frisk mumbled, downcast and pouting.
Papyrus immediately started sweating more, looking very conflicted.
“HM… WELL…”
He crouched down in front of Frisk and whispered to them conspiratorially.
“…I COULD USE AN ACCOMPLICE!”
“Really?” they asked, brightening.
“BUT!!!” he put one gloved finger up. “THE GREAT PAPYRUS WILL ONLY SHARE THIS SECRET IF YOU, HUMAN FRISK, SWEAR TO KEEP IT!”
“Oh, are you Papyrus again?”
“ERM. YES.”
“That’s good,” Frisk said, reaching out for the bag. “I like Papyrus. He’s cooler.”
“FRISK…!!! WELL, OF COURSE, I AM THE COOLEST, BUT!!! MY COOL FRIEND LIKES ME BETTER THAN SLIGHTLY LESS COOL AND HANDSOME NOT-PAPYRUS…!” he looked a little teary.
Frisk nodded, but their attention was mainly focused on controlling their grabby hands, inches away from the mystery items in the bag.
Papyrus made to hold it out then paused.
“YOU DIDN’T ANSWER BEFORE! YOU SWEAR NOT TO TELL?”
“I swear!”
“I don’t.”
“OH! FLOWEY!!! I DID NOT KNOW YOU WERE LISTENING!”
“I… I’m right here,” Flowey said, outraged. “How could I not?”
“WELL, I SUPPOSE IT IS HARD NOT TO HAVE YOUR INTEREST PIQUED BY SUCH A MYSTERY…”
“I’m not interested!” Flowey protested. “I just happen to be right here and have-”
Flowey cut himself off, as he abruptly realized he did not, in fact, have ears, and thus, his point was moot.
Frisk’s grabby hands won out, and they tugged a bit at Papyrus’ scarf.
“OH!!! RIGHT! AHEM!!! DRUMROLL, PLEASE!”
Frisk rolled a beat on their knees.
“BEHOLD!!!”
Papyrus opened the bag with a flourish. Frisk peered inside.
Cooking supplies? No, baking! And… was that…?
“Butterscotch!” they exclaimed delightedly. “You’re making mom’s pie recipe?”
“INDEED! I AM MAKING IT FOR TORIEL HERSELF!”
“Oh, she’ll like that!”
“I AM ALREADY A MAGNIFICENT CHEF! AND SINCE I HAVE MASTERED THE ART OF SPAGHETTI-MAKING, BAKING WILL BE A PIECE OF CAKE!!”
“Mm-hm!”
“AND!!! ONCE I HAVE THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED HER WITH MY BAKING EXPERTISE, I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL BE APPOINTED OFFICIAL GUARD OF THE KITCHEN!!!”
“Yes!”
“Oh, goody,” Flowey muttered snarkily, detaching from Frisk and vine-crawling along the floor away from them, still engrossed in his platformer. “I’m sure there’s no way this could go wrong.”
Papyrus hefted the bag and Frisk into his arms.
“OF COURSE NOT! WE’VE GOT THIS… IN THE BAG!!! NYEH-HEH-HEH!”
“Hehehe!”
“Ugh,” Flowey groaned. “I’m going outside.”
“OKAY!!! HAVE FUN, FLOWEY!”
Papyrus turned and headed for the kitchen. Frisk positioned themself so they could wave goodbye to Flowey from over his shoulder.
“See you later, Flowey! Watch out for birds!”
“What…?” he turned, looking baffled. “Why would I need to watch out for birds?”
“Sans said that because you’re so tiny it means that birds can pick you up and fly away with you.”
“Oh, did he now…” Flowey said, gritting his teeth. “Well, tell that smiley trashbag that - actually, never mind! Don’t tell him anything!”
While Papyrus baked in the kitchen, Frisk watched and waited.
Their task - their very important task?
Guard duty.
This was not something Frisk took lightly, to be assigned such an important duty by such an accomplished former almost-guard. They watched the hallway like a hawk for anyone who might intrude and spoil the surprise for their mom.
The sound of the front door! Frisk tensed.
“Hey, Papyrus!!! You in here?”
Undyne. Fearless former captain of the royal guard. They weren’t feeling particularly good about their odds of stalling her here, but she was getting closer, and Frisk was a trusted accomplice, after all.
Frisk shot out in front of Undyne, spreading out their arms to block her path.
“Uh, hey, Frisk. What’s up?”
They hadn’t thought this far.
“You shall not pass!”
“I… shan’t?”
Frisk shook their head firmly.
Undyne seemed a mixture of both taken aback and confused, before a dangerous glint appeared in her eye.
“Ohh, I get it! You want to WRESTLE!!!”
Frisk really did not want to wrestle. But Papyrus’ baking surprise was on the line here.
They took one determined step forwards.
“Oh?” said Undyne, cracking her knuckles. “You’re approaching me?!”
“I can’t wrestle you without getting closer.”
“Oh-ho! Then come as close as you like!!!” Undyne grinned, her eye and sharp teeth glinting. “NGAAAAHHHH!!!”
“Hyaahhhhh!!!”
“Excuse me.”
Undyne and Frisk froze mid-lunge to find Toriel standing in the doorway with her arms crossed, one eyebrow raised, looking thoroughly unimpressed. Sans stood next to her, clearly amused.
Undyne coughed and relaxed from her wrestling stance.
“Ha, uh, sorry, Toriel… got a little… carried away.”
“Oh, it’s alright. Just don’t do it again. Frisk is much too small for that kind of roughhousing.”
She gulped.
“Yes. Sorry.”
Toriel nodded, then turned to Frisk with a smile. She opened her mouth to say something… and suddenly Frisk remembered.
Toriel! In the hallway!
“Code fluff! Code fluff!” they shouted.
Toriel blinked.
“Fluff…?” Undyne muttered.
“AHHHHHH!!!”
The sound of crashing pots and pans and silverware echoed from the kitchen, which was odd, as absolutely none of those items should have been involved with Papyrus’ current activity.
“WHOOPSIE-DOOPSIE! JUST A SMALL KERFUFFLE! NOTHING TO SEE HERE!!!” said Papyrus, sliding out of the kitchen in a way that was not at all suspicious.
“That was a bit suspicious,” Undyne muttered.
“NOT AT ALL! I WAS JUST… CLEANING!!!”
“Uh-huh. What are you up to, Papyrus?” she asked, poking him in the chest.
“I… UH…!”
“eh, it’s cool, pap, you don’t hafta tell us,” Sans shrugged, strolling up from… the kitchen. Frisk blinked.
“OH. THANK YOU, SANS!”
“we’re just not on a knead-to-know basis, i guess.”
“YES, THANK YOU, SANS…” Papyrus muttered through gritted teeth.
Toriel glanced at Sans curiously, clearly picking up the intonation of a joke but still oblivious as to its source.
“What?!” Undyne scowled. “Why not?”
“NO! WAIT! THERE IS NO KNEAD-TO-KNOW - ARGH! NEED-TO-KNOW BASIS!!! THERE IS NOTHING TO KNOW!!! EXCEPT A SPARKLY CLEAN KITCHEN!!!”
“Okay, I know you’re lying, Papyrus.”
“yeah, that was a little half-baked.”
“SANS.”
“Tell us!”
“NO!”
“bro, we’re pie-ning for a hint here.”
“NO!!”
“Do I need to noogie you again?! Do I need to noogie the skeleton?!”
“NO!!! NO YOU DO NOT!!!”
“c’mon, i just want a piece of the pie.”
“THAT’S NOT EVEN A PUN! THAT’S JUST LITERALLY WHAT YOU WANT!!!”
Toriel’s face lit up suddenly as it clicked.
“Papyrus!” she gasped, sounding very touched. “Were you trying out my pie recipe?”
“…ah. whoops.”
“…NYOOOO HOO HOO!!!” Papyrus wailed, collapsing to the ground dramatically. “THE SURPRISE IS RUINED!!!”
Frisk wisely chose to back away slowly from the erupting chaos. Flowey, his vines securing him to the door frame, peeked in and raised an unimpressed eyebrow.
“Mission failed,” Frisk mumbled to him.
“…you don’t say.”

Actually, fun fact, one of my AU's used Etxra Life's design for a while when I hadn't thought of one yet. The AU's called Roleswap and I'll draw him sooner or later with his NEW design but for a bit if you were uneducated you could mistake him for Extra Life. It's all old art, though, so I dislike it.
Oh? Can you tell me more about Roleswap? I'm curious since he and Extra Life almost seem to be the same person!
Well, since you asked so niiicceeellyyyy..
You're actually pretty right in terms of personality. See, Roleswap means exactly what it means. In this AU the good becomes the bad and vice versa: The heroes are villains and the villains are heroes. They swap roles, Sonic is the new big bad Eggman and Eggman is...you get the drift.
Since in terms of "evil" the Sonic to Scourge pipeline is very real and very typical in terms of timeline and multiverse (In the rare case a Sonic DOES spoil) so I chose this guy to instead match/have Fleetway Sonic's personality and dIaBoliCAl super form. He's a rage-filled creature with a taste for chaos and mania and a baaad attitude. He likes being evil because it's what he enjoys and it's the only thing he can be, right?
This will just be some surface level things about Roleswap Sonic for obvious reasons but:
He's the main BBEG and has control over his own "gang" of sorts (still called Freedom Fighters but they don't fight FOR freedom but AGAINST it.) The reason for his becoming evil is both due to him coming to ENJOY it but also because of (lore).
His powers often have electricity as a focal point as one of his inspirations is Movie Sonic (His AU is linked to that old Swap!AU I have which is being revamped. Please don't go searching on @happ1may0 for it because it IS an embarrassment.) You can think of it like Surge but don't because I hate Surge. I did him before Surge was even on the market, alright. It's just an unfortunate product of circumstance. So, the longer he fights the stronger he gets because his body is a conduit for Chaos Energy and when he runs- his legs act as a generator so the more he runs the more Chaos Energy (that appears as electricity) is produced and the more Chaos Energy is produced the faster he runs which produces more Chaos Energy and thus -> Resulting in a feedback loop. It usually also produces the friction that causes fire. (Though, these things are more of a secondary effect.) And, if he gets enough energy and rage then he can momentarily go "Dark Sonic" as a boost. His fighting style is lightning and feral, often he stuns opponents (more hits=more stun allowing for more hits) so he's quite the dangerous foe.
Undiagnosed pyromaniac.
His evil ranges from cartoonish to actually deplorable. (Similarly to Dr. Eggman but at times worse)- yeah..you could say..he's sick AND twisted and occasionally..dIaBoliCAl.
He was never really taught how to manage his emotions which makes him polarizing. Usually it's just nasty anger issues. And I MEAN anger issues. Often he makes me angry and sad because his rage is so parasitic he FORCES me to think like him. So's I don't like to venture his headspace TOO often. Saves me the mental.
His evil laugh is like Sonic.Exe/Omega Flowey.
He's metal!! (As a kid he wanted to be a rockstar, basically. He's very musically inclined and one of his routines in the morning has him singing to songs as he preps himself for his EVIL day)
He's also the twin of somebody!!
He views the Eggman of this AU as both something to be squashed+destroyed+absolutely obliterated as the obstacle he is and as a father figure. He both DOES and DOESN'T want to kill Eggman so often or not he'll "accidentally" allow Eggman to get away.
Roleswap Sonic has NEARLY taken over/destroyed/and or otherwise harm the world on multiple occasions but he's merely PREVENTED from doing the inevitable by Eggman. Eggman never wins. Eggman is only temporarily keeping Sonic from doing whatever he pleases in a desperate (mostly one-sided) power struggle.
He DOES have a playlist as well. He's what inspired me to make playlists as I needed to remember all the songs I've heard that correlate to him when I maladaptive daydream. This playlist should actually explain some things as it matches the characters back stories and general personality (most of them are for Sonic himself but there are some for the others like for Amy and Tails) There is 489 videos on it currently and I update it on the regular as well as listen to it on the regular.
TW for bad words, slurs, adult themes, and bad vibes!!! :shocked x2:
Anyways, that's some stuff about him. Not the AU as a whole or anything too big since this isn't exactly an "official" post meant to be dedicated. It's just some nice tidbits I thought you'd like.
[Tell me if you wanna see his new design IG! Holler and I'll get it out early for you.]

What is a character trope you enjoy, but people keep misunderstanding?
The Rebel, because most people who write 'the rebel' are liberals and usually not that good at writing, usually just taking a bastardized version of anarchy or whatever and going "See how naive they are compared to us? I'm so smart" over and over again. But that's boring, so I'll pick a different trope.
Hmm............. I'd say... crouching moron, hidden badass. Whatever kind of 'moron', whether it's a comedic mask, an arrogant confidence, or if they're just actually kind of lame in most situations, I LOVE this trope so fucking much. Sans Undertale, Satoru Gojo (Kinda), Sokka (Kinda), Uncle Iroh, Plastic Man, Mikey TMNT, so on and so forth. I deeply enjoy a character who could kill a man or destroy an entire city but doesn't for whatever reason.
What I hate is that people make the character's entire shtick the Hidden Badass part, like no, you need both parts or it doesn't work!!!! There's no payoff for the Badassery if there's no Moronery!!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love the edge pieces of these characters and will eat up fics and art with Them and Angst married with three kids named Hurt, Me, and Plenty, but God Damn that can't be all there is to them. Sans Undertale being maybe the most immediately evident of this fandom bastardization, but it happens in general a lot and it pains me to no end. Being or Acting like a moron is integral to the character as as character and removing that part completely changes how that character is as a literary device and sponge.
But I'd say even worse than a Crouching Moron and Hidden Badass where the Crouching Moron was completely removed is when there's no reason for a character to be this trope. Like, just.. gqlquahbrguk;ljhqbaj., AGH>
Sans is a Crouching Moron because he's depressed, essentially. He knows about timelines, not like Flowey, but enough to understand how much he's boned, as in there's nothing he can do. Timelines jumping left and right, stopping and starting... until suddenly, everything ends. A process that means that, no matter what Sans does, no matter how much progress and effort Sans makes, it'll all come undone. It's not just that in time the work will be forgotten through death, that choices don't matter cosmically, but that choices stop mattering entirely. So, Sans doesn't try anymore than he has to for Papyrus. It isn't until the Genocide run where he caves in, where he says, quote, "I can't afford not to care anymore." Fighting you is, in a sense, fighting the cosmic sense of incapability for him; as equally as it is a fight he can't win both against the Player but also against his own awareness of his situation, but no matter how hard he tries, he still cares, and so he fights an unwinnable battle. He's a Crouching Moron for a reason.
Uncle Iroh is a Crouching Moron because he doesn't like fighting. He's spent his entire life serving the interests of the Fire Nation as a general, as the Dragon of the West, as a Fire Nation Royal... to the point where he sends his own son to die. A moment that recontextualizes the entire war for him; he's sent thousands of soldiers to die in the exact same way. Those were also someone's kids, someone's parents, partner, friend, and likewise, the same to be said about the soldiers he fights against, the soldiers he kills himself. The pain and grief he feels from the loss of his son is the pain and grief he's inflicted on people thousands of times over. So he ends the siege of Ba Sing Se, so he stops helping the Fire Nation and starts helping Zuko. He doesn't want to fight, any opportunity he has to pick a peaceful solution, he goes for it. He's a Crouching Moron because he earnestly and truly just wants Zuko to have a life, to not follow in his footsteps as a General, to not have his regrets. He wants to own a tea shop, not a city, but the only way he'll ever get that life is if the war ends, if the Fire Nation is stopped. He's a Crouching Moron for a reason.
But there are so many characters who don't have reasons, not even for an "I don't feel like applying myself" reason. They just do that to be that, to fulfill that role, without any actual flavor. It's watery and drainy and senseless and it just makes me go ;IAHERGIKLHQA;RGEHQAHKERGH. And worse, when there is a character who does CMHB really well, the fandom doesn't understand the character and just makes the most bland soup imaginable. Just.l hjghaqklghb ag. AUGH, and not the good AUGH, the bad AUGH. Sans is made into either the "funny bone man who doesn't care about anything" or the "edgy bone man who has a cool glowing blue eye". It's just... infuriating.
Anyway, you?

Asriel Dreemurr is a Prince of Doom ((bangs pots and pans))
[ALT: he seems like he'd be a prince of doom since princes usually act like their opposite aspect AND he acts like a life player methinks]
via @ghostzdrawz
in a reblog for this post: x
putting this as a separate post because it got so long that i couldn't simply put it below your reblog ^^'
yes that is exactly my classpect for asriel!!
( just as a sidenote, I find it very fun that, given my track record of assigning UTDR characters classpects, when a character is a Prince, they are also literally a prince in canon, like Ralsei, and now Asriel).
Asriel Dreemurr // Prince of Doom
You (very correctly!) stated Princes ghost their opposite aspect, and they do that since it's only prudent for a destruction class to destroy their aspect through leaning into the opposite one, too. The fact Princes destroy their aspect or destroy with their aspect supports this even more. They're destructive inwards and towards their environment, zeroing in on things having to do with their aspect and, depending on their mental state, destroying the enemies of its well-being or (usually, really) making it wither.
The ways Asriel supports Doom as an aspect are so numerous that it isn't even funny, so I'm just gonna list some things from my aspect notes and provide brief explanations:
affinity for unfortunate events, either in being the victim or invoking them (the incident he and Chara had with buttercups instead of cups of butter, Chara's death and subsequently Asriel's death during the scheme they both agreed on, creating entire timelines where he concocts his own genoroutes)
natural magnet for the worse parts of the narrative (being fated to live as a soulless being by pure chance, since his ashes were on the flowers purely by coincidence)
great supply of empathy and/or wisdom (the former is true for Asriel, who has a soul; the latter for Flowey, who is soulless and tested how things work many times - he even gives you a mock tutorial)
sufferers and martyrs (Asriel sacrificed himself to not kill anyone, even when attacked)
affinity for attunement with some kind of... otherness, alongside Life (like the exiles or horrorterrors in HS, or what I interpret as game mechanics in UT, and kinda just us - Flowey addresses Frisk, Chara and the player all at separate occasions)
Doom's symbolism of skulls, fire, explosions and bombs (he literally uses all these in his various attacks, most in the Omega Flowey form, that one with the added caveat of vaguely destroying Doom by using plants, Life's domain, too; but the skull appears in his Hyperdeath form attack)
literal meanings of death, sacrifice, entropy, acceptance (the first two are already plenty clear, entropy is just what Flowey was doing before we got here again and again, and what he attempts to do as Omega Flowey; and acceptance is what he finally exhibits at the end of True Pacifist)
abstract meanings of deterioration, nihilism, stagnation, static state of affairs, pessimism and limitations (most are already clear - the static nature of Flowey is him resetting again and again, to the point where Sans, along with whoever he was conducting research with, noticed the time anomalies and literally had depression induced because of the fact time is just Standing Still in a loop and nothing seems to matter anyhow so why bother trying <- destroying with Doom at its finest example; but also, the loop could be seen as something exactly opposite, since Flowey always tests something different).
Additionally, as the Extended Zodiac tells us - even though I try to not rely on it too much - the best a Doom hero can be is wise, kind and non-judgmental, while the worst they can be is being filled with bitterness, resentment and fatalism. The difference is between if they cling to the past or if they learn from it.
so, yeah. to sum up, my track record already shows i need very little to get me going about this so i'm very sorry ☝️however, counterpoint: it's really fun to do this hahah

Asriel/Flowey/Sprout
He doesn't like the fact that he came back “wrong”
He has to relearn how to perform magic, as it's now a combination of physical and magical. Due to this, he has outbursts similar to how young monsters do at first.
He was still very much “Flowey” in personality when he first came back. It gets better with time, but he's still very cynical and sarcastic, as well as keeping the darker sense of humor as he gets older.
He dyes his fur for the longest time due to it being the same bright yellow as his petals as Flowey. As he gets older, he does it less, but still dyes it occasionally just because he can.
He gains attributes of his Omega and Hyperdeath forms when he uses strong magic. While most of them fade away once he's done, his claws have to be physically filed down, since they're naturally sharp anyway
His horns grow buds that bloom into golden flowers in the spring. He doesn't like them, though, so he tries to pull them off before then. He still tends to miss a few, though, so he usually ends up with a couple flowers on his head anyway.
He finds vines and plant magic in general easier to use than the fire and healing magic he had before. He dislikes it for the longest time, and struggles to perform his old magic, anyways. Though he later accepts this as a part of him.
He gets frustrated that he can't grip things with his claws as well as he could with paws. He has to ask for help with certain things due to this, which irritates him further. Though as he starts accepting his magic, he learns to use his vines to help him.
His vines tend to sprout from his paw pads, which are still plant-like
He can't face shift anymore, but can still mimic voices. He does it on accident sometimes, but doesn't like the fact that it happens. Though once he realizes that Frisk finds it cool/funny when he does it, he starts doing it more for them. Over time, he accepts it, and it becomes a normal thing for him
Him and Chara aren't as close as they used to be, but they still love each other.
Him and Chara like to get on each other's nerves, but in a friendly way. They tend to get pretty aggressive with it, and verbal fights often turn physical, but nobody really gets hurt.
He really admires Frisk, to the point of putting them on a bit of a pedestal. He often forgets that they've done bad things, too.
He doesn't have memory of the timeline that Frisk and Chara came from, but he knows of it.
He disliked Rory for the longest time, as he felt like they were just a replacement for him, but eventually forms a decent relationship with them.
He hates being expected to act like he used to, even though he has the same expectation for himself at first.
He's close friends with Clover and they spend quite a bit of time together
He's never actually said a swear word, and he's honestly too afraid of Toriel's reaction to do so
He goes by the nickname Sprout for a while due to not really feeling like he should be called Asriel, but still feeling different from Flowey, but eventually feels alright being called either, though Clover still tends to use his nickname and most just call him Asriel
He doesn't want to be king when he grows up anymore, and just wants to live as normal a life as he can
His "fur" is actually just plant fibers, kind of like dandelion fluff. It doesn't actually retain much heat, and Asriel doesn't do well with cold weather.

Day 1 of trying to get my au noticed by the Undertale fandom
I have like 4 or 5 parts out of animatics for Brokentale on my yt channel but animation is hard so don't expect parts to come out frequently
Anyways basic lore and plot
After the 5th human fell into the underground, Alphys started experimenting with determination. She started out by using things like flowers before using it on any actual monsters, thus creating Flowey. After this, she wanted to try testing some other chemicals to see how things would react to them. Determination and what's known as Insanity go hand in hand with humans. Too much Insanity in a human can result in them basically being a genocidal freak. Usually humans have the perfect mix of Insanity and Determination. After Alphys learned that Insanity was also a core part in a human soul, she wanted to experiment with it as well. However this chemical only came in the form of a steam. So in order to keep everything safe, Alphys needed to make sure everything was secure. But there was a crack in the door. Alphys figured that out too late. The gas mask she had on wasn't secure either, causing her to be the first one to go Insane.
Alphys ran out of True Lab to see Mettaton outside asking if she was okay. Alphys panicked and ended up ranting on what happened. But as she was talking, the Insanity came out of the door. She had inevitably inhaled it, and started acting strange. Nothing much at first, just seeming weird but then she went to the point of harming others. She didn't want to deep down so she ended up hurting herself instead.
Meanwhile, the gas began spreading through the underground and having pretty much nowhere to air out, every monster would eventually go insane from it.
Once the gas spread to the Ruins, monsters started acting strange to Toriel. The monsters would often fight or even kill each other. Toriel didn't know why they acted like this. Until she began to feel insane as well. After the sixth human ended up dying, she grew an obsession with protecting the humans. So much so that she killed every monster in the Ruins.
Once the Insanity spread through all of the underground, it seemed hopeless. The world was broken.
Only one monster wasn't affected. That was Napstablook due to them being a ghost. Mad Mew Mew and Mettaton had already become corporal before the Insanity broke loose, so they still went insane.
Sans didn't want to be insane, so he thought maybe there was a way to stop himself from being insane. So he started to do drugs. And he became addicted.
After Frisk fell and saw the current state of the monsters, they wanted to fix it. They wanted to fix what had been broken. They managed to make some monsters come back to their senses and start to be at least a little more sane.
It turned out that Flowey had also been the direct candidate of being tested with the Insanity.
After everyone seemed somehow sane again, Flowey came. He took their souls and became Asriel Dreemurr. After Frisk managed to defeat him, the barrier was finally broken. The monsters were free and the Insanity could air out. Everyone managed to be sane again and then everything was fixed. Alphys, knowing all of this was her fault felt as if she could never forgive herself but after her friends said that it was just a mistake and they forgave her, she managed to feel at least a little better.

So I Like Reading Fanfics...
... and now that I have Serif, I can't help but want to put him in LITERALLY EVERYTHING. So. Here are my current ideas about how Serif would interact with the world of Ebott's Wake if he had entered the universe at the same time Doctor Aster came back, though not quite at the same place.
Alternate Universes are eventually confirmed to exist within the narrative, so I have decided to rework how much Serif's presence is going to affect the story. I was concerned about how much I could/should change but what happens next (I've finally caught up to Legacy of the Magi chapter 132) and have fewer reservations now. Serif usually sticks around a new AU for about a month to recover anyways so he can try Hopping again, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for him to stay for the duration of the plot, especially if he thinks he can be useful. Things don't change much until after the State of the Kingdom Address and everything associated with it.
Thursday
Ch1 Aster wakes up alone and mildly panics
Aster scrounges in the CORE for a radio, bringing it to the mouth of the cave before realizing he needed a power source.
Cussing himself out, Aster finds a power source at the Dump, where Serif hears him talking to himself and follows him back to the cave entrance.
Ch2 Radio show
Serif hides just inside the cave while Aster listens to the radio show.
Upon hearing of a call-in section of the show, Aster scrounges for a phone in the CORE, nearly catching Serif watching him, but Aster is a bit too distracted to consciously notice.
Ch3 Frisk and Flowey talk
Ch4 Aster calls the radio show
Serrif witnesses the call but only hears Aster’s half of the conversation, since Aster had turned down the radio so the delay wouldn’t trip him up.
Ch5 what Aster was up to and reunion with Sans
Aster is grappling with reality for like half an hour until Sans shortcuts in.
Serif witnesses the reunion, assured that Aster is a beloved parent and not a threat, and considers following them down the mountain. Their conversation fades into the distance as Serif decides to stay behind for now; let them have their happy reunion first, then they can deal with Serif.
Serif pushes the two abandoned thrones together to make a small “bed”. He’s had worse nights.
Ch6 Aster meets Toriel
Ch7 Family dinner with the gang
Ch8 Aster digests the story of Undertale
Ch9 Dinner ends and Frisk acts weird about breaking a plate
-1 Thursday
Serif wakes up in an empty Snowdin.
“No dust in the air, so it’s not a felled AU. No dust piles on the ground, so the kid didn’t kill ‘em all. Buildings are too modern for them to have died off far enough back for the dust to settle. Buildings are also empty, so somebody must’ve taken everything somewhere. All evidence points to a pacifist run gone right and everyone’s on the surface and probably don’t need my kind o’ help. Which means I’ve got the whole Underground to myself. Greeeaaat.”
Serif wanders around, looking for somewhere comfortable enough to hunker down for a few days to recover; if this universe was as “average” as it seems at first glance, there isn’t much point in staying any longer than necessary. He then hears a voice, following it to the dump to find Gaster, talking to himself while scrounging for radio parts. Serif observes from a distance, not sure he should trust this Gaster, and thinking that maybe there’s a reason he’s here after all. Hiding just inside the cave, Serif witnesses “Aster’s” radio call and the reunion with the native Sans, decides this (G)Aster was a beloved parent and not a threat, then decides to bed down for the night in the overgrown throne room, pushing both abandoned thrones together to make a small bed. He’s had worse nights.
The native Sans was his usual first contact, as Serif could infer a lot about an AU based on what Sans was like, but he figured he could find Sans later; let them all enjoy their happy reunion first, then they can deal with Serif.

Friday
Ch10 Radio show
There was a “protest” outside the Librarby but everyone was too drunk to do much and then scattered. This was before 9:30 am. Pre-protest for Das Boot reopening?
Ch11 Frisk thinks Sans was abused
Ch 12 Aster visits All Fine Labs
Ch 13 Radio show, Das Boot protest
Ch 14 Aster gets a job
Ch 15 Flowey isn’t Asriel, Frisk shows trauma
Ch 16 Flowey talks to Alphys
-2 Friday
The next day, Serif scrounges for something he can make edible and leaves the Underground by late morning, acting like he knew exactly where he was going; people are less likely to bother you if you look like you have somewhere to be. While wandering around town, Serif comes across a pair of crowds outside of some kind of restaurant with a small group between the two. He stays on the outskirts, cautiously curious, until a projectile flies from one crowd and hit one of the middle humans. Serif freezes, split between the urge to help and the need to remain hidden, until he sees the injured human screaming after the projectile thrower, apparently more-or-less fine. Serif decides this isn’t the best place to discretely gather intel and leaves for calmer pastures.
Finding a café with free wifi, he sets himself up to people-watch for the rest of the day, noting that this town was weird, and gets his phone connected to the grid with some minor hacking, keeping his eye out for any potential snacks he could liberate without drawing attention to himself. He stays the night at the Arboretum, finding a nice, dense tree to hide out in. Again, he’s had worse nights.

Saturday
Ch 17 Radio show, schedule
Ch 18 Frisk asks Alphys for SOUL help and stays til noon storm
Ch 19 the skeleboys go to lunch
Ch 20 Radio show, storm
Ch 21 Fisk and Alphys talk, slumber party begins
Ch 22 Skeleboys trapped in the rain
-3 Saturday
Resigning to dumpster dive for breakfast, Serif notices the starting of a storm but doesn’t realize just how bad it’s gonna get until it’s too late; he thought he might get I nice shower out of it, not end up in a flash flood! Annoyed at having been tripped up by surface weather, he ends up laying in a puddle of misery until Undyne literally stumbles upon him, assumes Serif is braving the elements like she is, and Serif indulges her competitiveness. This was as good an introduction to the group as any.
“Sure, why not? I’m already soaked to the bone so it’s not like I could get any wetter.”
Undyne is thrilled, they spar and race and probably some other stuff, until Undyne asks why Serif is really out in the storm and he lets slip he has no shelter to return to; he certainly can’t stay in a tree in this weather. At this, Undyne makes a snap decision and throws him over her shoulder, ignoring his protests, and takes him home to Alphys and Frisk, who just happened to be there when the storm hit and is kind of stuck. Once there, he hesitates before spilling exactly why he doesn’t have anywhere to go; while his usual first contact was the native Sans, he knew secrets would only hurt him in the long run. Being the anime nerds they are, the three quickly get the gist of Serif’s past and sudden arrival.
Sleepover hijinks ensue, including, but not limited to: get-to-know-you games like “Two Truths and a Lie” and “Truth or Dare”; make overs, where Serif gets Day of the Dead face paint; party games like Charades or other board games; Serif telling the three about alternate versions of themselves; and more. Eventually, jobs are brought up and Alphys mentions the souls research that Aster just agreed to take over; maybe Serif could help them get a head start on it, or at least find a good starting point. Serif hesitantly agrees.
“W-what do you know about souls? Or more specifically, human souls? We’re r-researching them right now and don’t really know where to start…” “Well, every universe is a little different, so I simultaneously know a lot about how souls could work and very little about how they work in this universe in particular.” “Well, w-would you consider consulting? E-even if you don’t t-tell us everything, maybe you can help us skip a few steps?” “Hmm… I suppose I do have to earn my keep somehow, right? If you think I can still be useful within my boundaries, than sure, I’ll consult on the project. Also keeping in mind that I’m not going to be staying here long term; I won’t just leave y’all high and dry but I have no intention of making this place my home.” “W-with the p-power out, we c-can’t call Toriel to tell her F-Frisk is here, or tell D-doctor Aster about you, Serif. He agreed to t-take over the soul research p-project for me.” “Oh joy. Guess I can work on my Gaster issues while I’m here, too.” “D-don’t call him Gaster, h-he hates it.” “Really? Huh, most of his counterparts embraced the name “Gaster”. Welp, thanks for telling me, otherwise it would’ve been a dis-aster.” ;)

Sunday
Ch 23 Radio show, t-shirts are promised
Ch 24 Sans has a memory
Ch 25 Sans looks for Frisk and they have a talk
-4 Sunday
Everyone had acknowledged that Serif can’t stay with Alphys and Undyne; there simply isn’t room, and Serif didn’t want to intrude anyways. Instead, they decide to ask Asgore if Serif could crash with him, which Serif half-heartedly tries to resist but gives in when they mention Asgore is alone a lot, which really isn’t good for him. Alphys calls Aster about the green light and the stray consultant Undyne found in the rain, then calls into the radio show to announce it to everyone. T-shirts are promised.
They point Serif in the general direction of All Fine Labs while they head over to ask Asgore if he would house Serif for a bit and drop off Frisk with their dad, then head over to Toriel’s to update her on the situation.
Aster got to the Labs before Serif and happily picks up his “mystery assistant” from the lobby. Serif briefly explains his backstory and, while fascinated, Aster tries to prioritize the soul research, promising to unravel Serif’s everything on his down time. Once onboarding is complete, both are brought up to speed on what they know, what they know they don’t know, and the process for scanning tomorrow’s volunteers.
Once done for the day, Aster insists on walking Serif to Asgore’s, partially because Serif really had no idea where Asgore lived and partially so they can talk more before the inevitable insanity tomorrow would bring. Aster had picked up on Serif’s discomfort and Serif reluctantly explains that he’s had some… unfortunate experiences with Gasters of other AUs.
“Which reminds me, they all went by Gaster so it is kind of interesting that you hate it so much. So uh, sorry in advance when I inevitably mess up.”
Asgore happily shares some dinner with Serif and Toriel shows up sometime after Frisk’s bedtime, wanting to meet the stranger” that Undyne and Alphys had invited to their impromptu slumber party. Both boss monsters try their best to understand Serif’s origins, with limited success. Tori is placated, as Serif seems to be a good person, but he does hide his LV from them; he really doesn’t wanna get into why the numbers are wrong or explain why some of them are right.
-
Monday
Ch 26 Radio show, soul scanning 101
Ch 27 Frisk gets scanned
-5 Monday
Bright and early Monday morning, Serif wakes with a start, blades out, ready for a fight, but is embarrassed when he realizes Asgore had simple dropped something while making breakfast. Serif has to explain that while living on the go, often in less than safe conditions, reflexes like that had saved his life more times than he cared to think about.
“Honestly? The fact that I didn’t wake up as soon as you came downstairs is a testament to either how tired I was, how comfortable I am here already, or how stealthy you are. So there’s that, I guess.”
At the Labs, Serif is basically just another gofer while the data is being gathered, his consultation only really needed for the bigger concepts, but he’s happy enough to be helping.
Once Frisk is scanned, and gives some “anomalous” readings, Serif is immediately grabbed and finally introduced to Sans. Sans is not thrilled with this development.
“w h o t h e f u c k a r e y o u ?” “I’m you; or rather, I’m who you might have been if circumstances had been different. But we can compare notes later, we’ve got bigger fish to fry right now.”
Having spent a slumber party with Frisk, and knowing what he did about other Frisks, Serif isn’t surprised at all that they have a high LV Cap. Caps are a measure of how violent a person could become, based on outside influences, negative experiences, exposure to violence… Again, it varies, but…
“Y’ever wonder why a kid would climb a mountain nobody returns from? No happy reasons, I can tell you that much. I may not know specifically what this kid has gone through, but from what I’ve seen they’re a good kid with all of the hallmarks of past abuse. That’s as far as I’m willing to speculate without more details and I don’t wanna push ‘em too far too fast.”
The skeletons keep all of this to themselves for now while they think about what to do. Alphys was too busy to think about Frisk’s scan until after work and Aster said he’d update her in the morning. Serif doesn’t tell Asgore that Frisk was scanned at all.
-
Tuesday
Ch 28 Asgore has a dream and does morning stuff
Ch 29 Big brains have a meeting
Ch 30 Frisk and Undyne talk
Ch 31 Radio show
CH 32 Frisk and Aster talk after the garden show
-6 Tuesday
A morning meeting is called and Alphys is brought up to speed on Frisk’s scan data, specifically their high LV Cap. Serif mostly observes while the native scientists try not to freak out too much; Aster is certain there’s some other explanation and wants more data before doing anything but Alphys refuses to live in secrets and lies again, storming off to the Garden Show to spill everything to Toriel. Sans goes after her to play damage control and the other scientists decide to get back to work and leave this decision to the monsters in charge. This leaves Serif with Aster in the meeting room.
Aster tells Serif to look at closer at Frisk’s scan, maybe they missed something that skewed the data, but Serif argues that it’d be a waste of time; he believes that the numbers are accurate, or at least accurate enough, and nothing more can be gleaned from this one scan. They can scan more if they want but Serif doesn’t think they’ll gain much other than confirmation. Aster relents and more volunteers are scanned. Aster tries to distract himself from thinking about Frisk by grilling Serif about AU stuff.
Hiving hit this roadblock with Frisk’s scans, Aster is frustrated and scans aren’t enough of a distraction on their own, so Aster starts prodding at Serif about AU stuff. He manages to bully Serif into going to the Skelebros’ house to talk more, under the guise of finally being introduced to Papyrus, who wasn’t even there. Frisk shows up, frustrated that they still haven’t gotten a direct answer from anyone about LV Caps, and had decided to seek out Aster or Serif for answers. Aster and Frisk go for a walk and Serif takes his chance to flee, thoroughly exhausted and very much DONE with everyone.

Wednesday
Ch 33 Radio show
Ch 34 First blood on the scanner
Ch 35 Undyne has a memory and talks to Frisk
Ch 36 Frisk is scanned again and revelations are had
Ch 37 Frisk and Flowey talk, then Sans drops off a book
Ch 38 AML meeting with Justin
-7 Wednesday
The next day at work, Serif was with Aster when he got the message about the first human with LV being scanned. Aster was initially worried until Serif pointed out that the human had willingly been scanned, knowing they had killed before and likely aware that the scan would reveal that. Aster was suddenly less worried and more curious about the psychology of someone who would do something like that and wanted to talk to the human alone; he’d previously wanted Serif to accompany him and watch his back.
While scanning continued, Serif was restocking the breakroom when Frisk entered for a snack, having left Sans and Toriel to have some hard realizations. Frisk had been wanting to talk to Serif again since the sleep over anyways but they hadn’t been able to find the time.
“Based on what I’ve seen from you, and what I know of other Frisks… I think the numbers are accurate. Meaning that you haven’t even hit puberty and you’ve already been through hell and back… For what it’s worth, I have a high LV Cap, too. Nobody seems to have clocked it yet, or at least I haven’t heard about it, but I probably understand you better than anyone else in town. With one notable exception that I’m sure you don’t need me to spell out for you.” “… how did… you get a high LV Cap?” “… I don’t think we have time to get into that today-” “Frisk! Just the person I was looking for! That star you mentioned yesterday, I can’t stop thinking about- oh uh, Serif,
Serif mentioned his own high LV Cap but they were interrupted by Aster before Serif could say much else. Aster mentioned the star Frisk had told him about on their walk before stopping short with a glance at Serif, who shrugged and started to excuse himself from the private conversation but Frisk stopped him, saying that maybe he could help figure out what’s going on.
Unfortunately, this time didn’t work either as Aster comes by and invites them both to another TED Talk about timespace and how it must have carried Aster into the future. Frisk and Toriel eventually return to school and Alphys returns with pizza and an epiphany which Serif gets roped into helping her with while Sans and Aster return to scanning volunteers.
After scans wrap up, Serif had been run ragged trying to keep up with Alphys and was told to get some rest while Sans and Aster take over. As he’s leaving, Serif runs into Papyrus who was on his way to try and pull Sans and Aster away from the labs and go to the Pancake thing. While disappointed with the update about their work status, Papyrus decides to use this opportunity to get to know Serif instead; Sans and Aster get to hang out with him all the time at work and Pap had been feeling a little left out.
They meet up with Undyne for Pancakes and she’s disappointed Alphys isn’t with them but proud of her passionate girlfriend. Serif gets roped into some contests between Papyrus and Undyne, allowing himself to show off a bit but keeping a very tight lid on his abilities. The two can tell Serif is holding back but he refuses to go all out with so many people around so they head to the school.
“Nobody’d be caught dead back at school if they could help it!” “Heh, good one.” “Good-? Oh shit! Ugh! I didn’t mean to make a pun!”
It takes a bit of coaxing but Serif lets himself indulge in his power.
“I’m always so afraid of it that I actually don’t really know where my limits are. I know I have them, I’ve reached them in… less than ideal circumstances, but… I’ve never felt comfortable enough with my powers to test them properly.”

The next day, Joe Stanton tests out Alphys epiphany and scanning begins yet again. Aster was poking at Serif again when Sans came to grab Aster and Serif busied himself refilling the refreshments in the breakroom again. Jason Taylor is scanned and sent to the breakroom, where Serif immediately picks up on his LV; luckily, Serif has plenty of practice not reacting to potential threats while still keeping tabs on them.
Later that day, Aster is puzzling away with Serif about the CORE failure that sent him skipping through time when Frisk shows up after the Ad-dress rehearsal. Sans also enters, bantering with Frisk who sticks their tongue out at him.
“curses, the one human gesture i can't do.” “Wait, you can’t make magic flesh?” “make what now?”
Serif demonstrates by sticking out his own blue tongue, which freaks out the skeletons and amuses the human. Discussion is diverted to skeleton physiology for a bit but eventually gets back on track so Serif could help Frisk explain resets which triggers an epiphany for Aster.
“Did you already know all of this?!” “Kinda. *shrug* The exact physics work a little differently in each universe but the result is pretty consistent. The power to change fate… Frisk is right, it’s a curse that corrupts even those with the best of intentions. I’ve seen it happen, I’ve felt the allure myself; no one should be forced to live with so much power over the lives of those around them.”
Serif declines joining them at the Dank Memehaus and heads home to dinner with Asgore. Serif brings him up to speed on Frisk’s stats and both listen to the radio before turning in for the night.
This might be a good time for Serif to talk to Flowey, since Flowey has a dream that night and starts to feel feelings. Despite Flowey being certain he doesn’t have a soul, Serif can still feel things from him.

Serif has to pick up Sans’ slack while he joins the Honor Guard at the Address. There have been protestors outside All Fine Labs every day since it opened and today was no different; however, what was different was a taught buzz of anxiety that Serif couldn’t quite account for. Almost like they’re waiting for something. He mentioned as much to Alphys and Aster, who brushed it off as a response to the Address going on today. Serif remained hyper vigilant about scanning the volunteers, even though it made the process a bit harder and longer, and was the first to realize there were weapons present and intent to use them.
After the lab was locked down and the mob seemed to be converging on the hospital Frisk is at, Serif agrees to stay behind and hold down the fort while Aster bridges Alphys over to help Flowey try to help Frisk. He considers accompanying Joe in the Blaster Mech but decides to stay put, just in case; it was possible this was some elaborate trick to infiltrate the lab, but mostly Serif just didn’t trust himself on the battlefield. Serif continued to be on high alert, even after the mob dispersed and the day was considered “won”.

Everyone takes the day off to recover physically, mentally, and emotionally from the riot and the others bring Serif up to speed on what happened at the hospital. Serif is kind of glad he decided to stay behind but also frustrated that he doesn’t know what to do with all of his nervous energy. Asgore does his best to distract Serif from his anxiety, with limited success. Serif tries to channel the energy into his remaining empty quartz crystals, which just leaves him tired and anxious; he’s just as riled up mentally but now, with less energy at his disposal, he feels the need to be even more alert to make up for the feeling of weakness. Serif doesn’t trust himself to spar and instead goes on a walk/run, hoping to bleed off the energy that way.
He doesn’t get far before he finds Flowey, who was waiting for Serif to leave the house so they could talk. Flowey says whatever Serif felt from him before must have been Frisk’s soul piece but Serif says he can still feel things from Flowey. If anything, Serif can feel more from Flowey now than he could last time they talked.

june 07 - monachopsis
prompt: ice cream rating: g wordcount: 2,145 characters: Chara, Flowey, Frisk warnings: none prompt from this post, read it on ao3 here
——
Ice cream was a rare delicacy when Chara was a child living on the Surface.
They didn't come from a rich family, and their parents weren't exactly the kindest people on the planet, so novelties like ice cream weren't readily provided. If they got ice cream, it was because their parents were invited to an event where some other family was serving it.
Which, they think, is part of what makes the easy access Frisk has to ice cream ache as much as it does.
Sharing a body with Frisk means that so long as neither of them is trying to keep anything a secret, nothing is a secret. They know every thought Frisk has as they have it, more or less, and the same could be true in the reverse if Chara weren't so worried that Frisk would be horrified by half the things floating through their head at any given moment.
But that doesn't mean that Chara knows what Frisk's childhood was like before Mom and Dad took them in.
They try not to be bitter about the ice cream thing because they don't know if Frisk always had this much access to it. And, you know, also because they don't want to be a jerk — it's such a minor thing, isn't it? A stupid food that they didn't get often, but Frisk can pretty much have any time they want it if they only ask, which means it's not important.
They shouldn't be so torn up over a stupid food.
The fact that Frisk can't see or hear everything they think, most of the time, doesn't mean that Frisk doesn't know them. It doesn't mean Frisk doesn't notice things. It doesn't mean Frisk hasn't put together the fact that Chara gets snippy when ice cream is involved.
They aren't sure if Frisk has figured out why, because they haven't seen or heard anything in Frisk's head about it, but that doesn't mean that Frisk hasn't figured it out. It just means that, if they have, they're keeping the information close to their chest.
All of this to say that they knew Frisk was acting weird this morning, but they really weren't expecting it to be because...
Well.
They look down at the bowl of ice cream in front of them, blinking as they adjust to suddenly being in control of Frisk's body without having made the decision to take control. Usually Frisk doesn't just dip out of their own body like this, and especially not without warning Chara that they're going to dip.
"... For you." Frisk utters, from their side, nudging them with incorporeal fingers.
On the other side of the table is another bowl. Chara wasn't paying much attention when Frisk set this up — they're used to Frisk also making up a bowl of ice cream for Flowey if they grab a bowl. There were no alarm bells going off at the time.
Now there are.
Sort of, at least. Mostly they're just a little baffled that Frisk would go out of their way like this. It's just ice cream, there was no reason for them to hide their intentions.
Except that Chara may have objected if they'd known.
There's always that.
Ugh.
They hesitate to reach for the spoon Frisk left for them.
They hesitate long enough that Flowey manages to lug himself and his pot into the seat across from them before they even make up their mind about whether they'll be picking it up at all. They watch him for a moment, somewhat fascinated by how comfortable he is these days, almost three years after Frisk convinced him to come to the Surface. A vine worms its way out of his pot to pick up the spoon Frisk left him.
He hesitates, sort of, squinting at them across the table. "What are you waiting for, pipsqueak?"
Pipsqueak.
Right, he thinks they're Frisk.
Of course he thinks they're Frisk, why wouldn't he?
"... Not Frisk." Is all they can think to say, somewhat uncomfortable. It isn't that they don't want to spend time with their brother, that's not the problem, but he might take it that way if they don't fix their stupid attitude. They don't want him to take it that way. They shake themself and continue, "They dipped out as soon as they sat down."
Flowey blinks. There's a shred of vulnerability in his expression, there always is when he realizes he's talking to them and not to Frisk. They're still not entirely sure why. It's always gone before they can examine it too closely.
They don't let themself be bitter about the fact that Flowey is more emotionally vulnerable with Frisk than he is with them. It's less minor than the ice cream thing, but it's still not the end of the world. He's not used to dealing with them anymore, he's used to Frisk. Of course he's more comfortable with Frisk.
Of course.
It makes sense.
So why does it hurt?
This time, Flowey doesn't immediately shut his expression down when he realizes he's shown a shred of actual emotion. They see the moment he notices, but they also see the moment he decides not to take it back or hide it.
He says, "Oh. Well, then what are you waiting for, Pipsqueak Supreme?"
They laugh, startled, and the way Flowey preens is all Asriel.
Frisk snickers quietly at their side, then nudges them again. "Gonna melt."
"I was processing." They sniff, after a second, finally reaching for the spoon, "They didn't tell me before I got pulled up to the controls and it took me a minute to get my bearings."
Flowey rolls his eyes, but it's not dismissive, not really. He scoops up a spoonful of ice cream and tells them, "Bah. Spare me your excuses and stop wasting your ice cream."
They laugh again, he preens again, and it's with no small amount of probably undue reverence that they scoop up their own spoonful of ice cream.
It tastes amazing.
They hum happily, closing their eyes to savor it a little, and they relax at the feeling of Frisk sort of dropping against their back, arms around their neck. It's comfortable.
They totally don't start tearing up over ice cream, no way, and the fact they have to pause after the first bite to get their emotions under control has absolutely nothing to do with the ice cream at all. Totally.
Thankfully, Flowey doesn't comment on it, and neither does Frisk.
There's not a whole lot of talking at all, actually, while they eat their bowl of ice cream. They're a little too preoccupied with the ice cream itself to talk, and Flowey doesn't seem to be feeling particularly talkative. From what they can tell from Frisk, they're just content to watch for now, so there's also no commentary from the peanut gallery.
It's... Comfortable.
Quiet, but comfortable.
A hug would really tie the whole thing together, but alas, Flowey isn't as much of a hugger now as he was when he was Asriel. It's unfortunate. And they don't really want a hug from Mom or Dad when they wouldn't realize they aren't Frisk, so that's not happening either.
It's fine, they're genuinely not that torn up about that. Frisk leaning on their shoulders, arms looped around their neck and across their chest, cheek pressed against the side of their head, is more than enough, no matter how ghostly and unreal the sensation is.
When they're done with the bowl, they do have to spend a second scrubbing at their eyes. It's such a tiny thing to get emotional about.
That doesn't stop them from saying, quietly, "Thanks, Frisk."
Frisk nuzzles against the side of their head and squeezes them. They don't say anything, but Chara gets the message all the same.
They start to get up to put the bowls in the sink and rinse them out, but Flowey snakes a vine out of his pot to very unsubtly knock them back into the chair. They blink at him, startled, and he stares mildly back as his other vine plucks up both of their bowls and spoons and plops them carefully into the sink and rinses them.
They open their mouth to ask what that was all about, because their legs definitely work, but Flowey just wraps the vine he pushed them with around their chest and arms, squeezes once, and pulls it away.
"Sit still a minute." He says, sounding more like the brother they knew a hundred years ago than he has in a long time, "There's no rush. Nowhere to be."
"Okay." They say, relenting a whole lot easier than they would have when they had their own body. Just to make sure he knows they're still not the type to let themself get pushed around, they add, "But that's not gonna work twice, I'll bite you."
He snorts and rolls his eyes again.
But they sit still a minute and soak up the ability to spend time with their brother without having to be a metaphorical third wheel to he and Frisk. Frisk really doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get control of their body back, either, which really helps Chara relax a little.
"Hey, Azzy?" They start, after a moment. They flinch before he even reacts, swiftly correcting themself. "Sorry. Habit. I meant Flowey."
He eyes them, but there's no immediate anger like there has been when Mom or Dad slips up and calls him by the wrong name since he came to the Surface. He doesn't bristle, he doesn't snap at them that Asriel is dead. Really, he looks more like he's thinking about something than like he's bothered that they slipped.
Finally, he says, "It's fine, Char. What were you going to ask me?"
Just like that, no argument, no anger. Just acceptance, forgiveness, and an invitation to continue.
Weird.
That's...
Well, that's more Asriel than it is Flowey.
They decide not to look too far into it.
"... I was going to ask if you wanted to come sit on the patio with me." They say, a little haltingly. "... It's been a while since we spent time together."
He eyes them again, then says, "Sure."
Even more surprisingly, when they get up and move to pick his pot up, he doesn't protest. He lets them carry him out onto the back patio and set him down without so much as an annoyed huff at having to tolerate their nonsense.
"... Thanks," They say, quietly, "... For not getting mad, I mean. I know you hate it when Mom and Dad call you the wrong name."
"It's fine." He dismisses, but there's a moment of silence before he adds, just as quiet, "I don't mind so much when it's you, I guess. Just you."
They look at him out of the corner of their eye, but he's got his eyes closed as he soaks up some sun. He really seems to love sunning himself. He doesn't look upset. He seems to really mean that he doesn't mind as much when they do it.
Before they can come up with a reply, he takes a deep breath and then sighs heavily.
He still doesn't look at them when he says, still quiet, "Besides. 'Azzy' was your thing. It's different. It's not like them calling me Asriel just because they can't get it through their thick skulls that he's gone now. It's not... I know you know that the kid they see when they look at me is mostly gone."
'Mostly' gone, he says.
So he's starting to admit that there's still a little bit of his old self in there.
They smile a little, reaching out to poke his stem. "I still won't call you that if you don't want me to."
He swats their hand with a leaf, not even hard enough to sting. He glances at them sidelong, then says, "... You get nickname rights. Tell the pipsqueak that if they call me that, though, I'm burying them."
Frisk snickers in the back of their head, but doesn't comment. Chara doesn't bother telling Flowey that Frisk wouldn't call him that anyway, because they never knew him as Asriel. He's always been Flowey to them, always will be.
(Which is why, Chara thinks, he gets along with them as well as he does.)
(They don't expect him to be Asriel.)
"Message received." They say, instead, "... Thanks, Azzy."
He waves a leaf in dismissal and closes his eyes again.
Chara leans back on their hands, stretching their legs out, and they close their eyes too. How nice it is to feel the sun on their face while their brother sits next to them. How often they hoped for exactly this.
Frisk doesn't move to take back control, just settles in next to them quietly.
Chara basks in silence.

Underfell Frisk, Flowey, Asriel, and Chara

The trauma children!
Trigger warning for suicide and abuse
Frisk is the human you play as. Quite simple. They bonked their head on a stick on the fall down luckily they're good with first aid. They're a friendly child despite all the shit they went through. Their birth parents were abusive and the trauma rendered them mute with minor PTSD. They were put in an orphanage but escaped and went to commit suicide by diving into Mount Ebott but by a miracle they survived and saw it as a sign from God that they have a mission and after meeting Flowey who presented himself as a fallen angel they set on a quest to heal the wounds of an underground torn apart by the death of a child and the failure of a king.
Long ago monsterkind was ruled by Asgore and Toriel and their son Asriel and later their adopted child Chara Chara was the adopted child of the Dreemurs their past is something they are holding me at knife point not to discuss so don't ask. They are Asriel's only real friend. Things were rough even with the Dreemurs Toriel and Asgore were always bickering and it usually ended with Toriel sleeping outside the castle. Asgore wasn't cold hearted but incredibly stressed because the underground was in great peril and everyone was turning for him for help. He still cared about his family but put his kingdom first. He loved Asriel dearly and tried to make Asriel a better king than he ever was but he never did care much for Chara He believed Chara was a bad omen. He didn't trust humans after they betrayed his kind so long ago and neither did the rest of monsterkind One day monsters stormed the capital demanding Asgore kill and harvest Chara's soulIn a moment of weakness....he killed his own child. Toriel lashed out at him and he in a fit of rage and confusion snapped off her horn and banished her. Asriel horrified by this took Chara's soul and ran away to the surface but was not welcomed by humans who killed him brutally That was day Asgore lost everything And it was all his fault. That was the moment that broke Asgore and would lead to the downfall of his kingdom. A while later the scientist Alphys, who began to slowly descend into madness after learning the truth of what happened to Gaster, Toriel, and Chara at the hands of Asgore, extracted determination from the souls of dead humans to imbue life onto a flower. Not just any flower. But the first flower to grow from pollen brought from the surface from Asriel And so Asriel was reborn as Flowey He only has one goal: escape. However he doesn't remember anything about how he died Just that he was once a prince. He accompanies you in every route of the game acting as a guide, mentor, and bodyguard In the genocide route he adopts the motto "Kill or be killed" and through the players bad influence becomes like the Flowey from Undertale In the neutral route he betrays you. Not Frisk He actually cares for Frisk But YOU the player. He knows that once you escape you'll just reset again. Take away your happy ending Take away his happy ending Take away everyone's happy ending So he turns into Omega Flowey (who resembles a biblically accurate Angel) to fight the player specifically and try and save everyone In a way he's the true hero of the game. In the pacifist route it's mostly the same except after seeing your friends he has hope that you won't reset, that you'll give everyone the happy ending he's been hoping for and he absorbs the souls and all of monsters to destroy the barrier and save everyone....until he becomes Asriel....He suddenly remembers the events of his death and realizes the underground isn't worth saving....No one isSo he sets out to put this world out of its misery. But through the power of friendship you convince him that there is still hope and that your dreams are able to come true and he destroys the barrier.....And everyone lived happily ever after......until you betray them all..... because well.....there's other endings to get....you just have to see every possibility......you're never content even with everyone happy.....and so you reset again. Just to see what would happen if you.....i don't know...Killed everyone? =)

CHAPTER 9
FILE 08
No Turning Back
((( Read chapter 9 with this music, BEETHOVEN - "Moonlight" Sonata, 1st Movement - 432 Hz - (Piano Rendition )))
To catch a killer, you must think like one—even become one yourself. This was the game Sans and Rays had started. There wasn’t much Sans could do to win, or so he thought. He wandered along Snowdin, leaving his brother behind and brushing off the snow that clung to him.
Unfortunately, this was no dream. Sans walked as though he were devoid of a soul, his gaze distant and unfocused, yet his mind fixated on one thing ahead. The bitter truth that he alone could act freely left an acrid taste in his mouth. He closed his eyes and braced himself to accept the tragic reality.
“If this is how you’ve chosen to start the game, then I’ll have to play along.”
Sans thought of various scenarios that could either support him or throw him into the abyss. Every plan led him to a dark place he had always avoided, observing it only from a distance. But now, there were no limits holding him back; the path that sacrificed his morals was wide open.
“Goodbye, Sans,” he said sincerely. He accepted the consequences. Welcome to his new self—he must walk a bloody path and leave the light behind.
“Frisk, where are you now, hm?”
He could use that human, and also... another figure, one who shared the same form as that human. The queen who had a throne in the shadowy realm of this world.
“Chara, I can’t wait to meet you.”
Thanks to Rays, Sans knew the ins and outs of the Undertale world, even the existence of a figure capable of rendering the player powerless and forcing them to obey their will. Chara, the hidden figure known only to Frisk and Flowey. Sans had to find them both for his success—by force or not at all.
Sans didn’t realize it. But the smile—or rather, the smirk—was the same as Rays’—unconsciously forming on his face. There was horror in it, shaped by resolve and a deep despair that felt like thunder, ready to strike and destroy its prey from the hidden depths.
Sans moved with lighter steps than usual. Instead of rejecting his worst side, this time, he embraced it with open arms. The dark mist that followed him from behind now supported his body, strengthening him with the satisfaction of breaking free from the chains that had kept him away from his darkest side.
Sans arrived at his favorite spot—Waterfall. The place was, as usual, quiet and peaceful—relieving the tension in his shoulders with a panorama of shimmering blue light, like magical crystals. It was truly a sight for sore eyes, and it was so beautiful. The calm flow of the water and the blooming echo flowers around him made his mind more serene—Sans felt the negative emotions that had been pressing on him start to evaporate like water, soothing him with the stillness of the atmosphere.
Suddenly, he heard the whisper of the flowers, whispering words he had said in the past: “not ready for the responsibility.” And Sans immediately chuckled as he heard his past ramblings once again.
Usually, Sans would be disturbed by such whispers. But this time, Sans didn’t feel bothered at all. He felt “free” in a way that was different from usual. Sans wasn’t pushed into that dark abyss; instead, he reached into it and took control of it.
Control. Sans felt a complete sense of control over his mind—for the first time.
The whispers of the echo flowers were now just a trivial matter that didn’t bother him at all.
***
The old park bench was there as always, looking worn and untouched. He slumped into it and spoke aloud.
“Hey, Rays.”
No response greeted him.
“I know you’re watching me, and that’s incredibly unfair, isn’t it?”
Again, silence. But Sans knew for certain that Rays was listening and, no doubt, grinning widely right now.
“Give me 15 days. Don’t watch me—just 15 days. I know you can manage that.”
This time, Sans waited for a response from Rays.
Suddenly, the ground in front of him began to shift, forming letters that spelled out:
“Say please. Use the magic word, Sans.”
Of course, it wouldn’t be that easy, Sans thought, his already tangled thoughts growing heavier. He would have to give Rays what he wanted—or there would be no privacy to keep his plans hidden. Revenge—it all came down to that. Sans had insulted Rays too many times, and now Rays demanded payback for the blow to his pride. Sans had anticipated this. He knew Rays would make his move sooner or later.
Sans let out a long sigh, preparing himself to say those unpleasant words—while Rays waited patiently, holding a bucket of popcorn in his hands. Sans knew how much Rays enjoyed moments like this.
He braced himself, his mouth unwilling to form the words. But he had to force them out. He had to say that damned word. To achieve his victory, Sans had to step out of his comfort zone and lower his head once again to the demon eagerly awaiting his moment of downfall.
Sans lowered his head and spoke with a tone that betrayed his frustration. “I... I beg you.”
And then—
“Pfft—”
Sans immediately looked up when he heard the voice he hated so much, now sounding so close to him. His eyes met the figure looking at him with a mocking expression, trampling on his pride. But it wasn't the usual Rays—this figure was human-shaped, wearing the same clothes but with a different face. "Really?"

“You hate it when I use your face, don’t you? So, I decided to take on a much more handsome human form than yours. How do you like it?” He smiled widely, waiting for a compliment or a displeased response from Sans. Rays didn’t actually care which response he’d get; he simply wanted to enjoy seeing how Sans would be affected by his significant change in appearance.
On the other hand, Sans didn’t know how long this foolish behavior of Rays would continue. He knew that Rays wouldn’t stop just because he said the words he wanted to hear. There had to be something else. For that reason, Sans chose to respond indifferently. “I don’t know, what do you think? I’m not good with fashion.”
And Rays had already predicted this trivial response from Sans. “What a pity. I spent a long time deciding on a face that could impress you, Sans.” To that, Sans chuckled and responded. “Must be disappointing.”
“A little. I wasn’t expecting anything from you.”
Sans quickly turned his gaze toward the crystals embedded in the rocky walls, shining brightly. Rays saw that Sans had already lost interest in the conversation and immediately went to the bench, searching for an empty spot to sit. Sans didn’t show any sign of being bothered when Rays sat beside him; he only displayed a thick indifference. He propped his face in his hands, allowing the silence to dominate the place. Eventually, Rays broke the silence. “I think... hm, still not enough. Yeah, yeah, very unsatisfactory.” Rays leaned his body, grinning widely. “About your begging earlier, you weren't sincere about it, Sans. I'm very disappointed.”
Sans sighed inwardly. He rolled his eyes with a slight exhale of frustration.
“What now?” Sans continued staring at the Echo flowers beside him.
Rays didn’t answer immediately. However, a few seconds later, he finally responded...
“Kneel.”
Sans couldn’t hide his shocked expression. He felt a sting that quickly flowed towards his amygdala. Sans felt his entire soul and mind go into an incredibly terrifying shock. One word felt like a tremendous explosion—Rays was expecting the worst for him, and it would continue to happen in the future. Praying was futile; Sans had to accept his bad fate and surrender his dignity.
“… If that’s what you want.”
Rays immediately smiled with satisfaction, observing Sans who had surrendered his dignity. Reluctantly, of course. The expression of satisfaction was demeaning to Sans, a celebration of a temporary victory that felt bitter and sour.
“Let it begin, Sans.”
Sans stood up immediately, walking towards Rays with heavy steps. He was grateful that it was just him and Rays here; he didn’t want to show his destruction to the many eyes that could be watching him.
Lowering his right foot with his head bowed, his body felt extremely heavy to move—it felt like his back was being crushed by a one-ton stone. His heart’s reluctance held him back from submitting to Rays’s power, but he had to release that pressure and surrender himself to his lowest point. Kneeling before Rays, his worst enemy.
His hands reached the dirty ground, with all the subconscious rejection trying to preserve his dignity. Sans raised his face and looked at Rays with a fiery spark in both of his eyes. “I beg you,” Sans said the two words that felt like deadly poison, like filth coming out of his mouth. His neck bones seemed to tighten with the sour taste that pierced his tongue.
And finally...
“HAHA! Well, look at that, I’ll remember this beautiful moment well.”
Rays started clapping joyfully, his eyes sparkling with satisfaction that fueled his excitement. He was thoroughly enjoying it. His expression looked like the satisfaction of a king enjoying a gladiator arena in the Coliseum, wiping his cheek with the flowing blood. The emotion of being humiliated was held at the tip of Sans’s throat; he restrained himself, tightening his hands. He slowly extinguished the fire within his soul, swallowing the explosion that was about to erupt.
“Well, you can stand now. I’m satisfied. This was very fun.”
Sans immediately stood, looking at his knees covered in sand and dirt. He then looked at Rays, who was still sitting in the chair like a dictator. His yellow and red eyes resembled a hunter pitying its prey and releasing it again due to a wave of boredom.
“15 days, huh. Alright, I’ll close my eyes for those 15 days.” Rays squinted his eyes, “It will surely be very boring, but that’s the interesting challenge. I can’t wait to see how your plan goes, Sans.” Sans wiped his hands and knees, looking at Rays with a somewhat annoyed face, but still holding himself back. “Yeah, you’ll have to wait. That’s the fun part, I have to prepare the best surprise for you.”
Rays immediately grinned, just thinking about something very interesting.
“You know, Sans.” Rays patted his left side, signaling Sans to sit back down, and Sans compiled without saying anything.
“I’ll give you a gift.”
“A gift?”
Rays opened his right hand, a spark of fire appeared in his hand like fireworks. “Access.” His eyes widened as a collection of numbers circled around the sparks, like a spectacular firework display. Then Rays spoke again, “I’ll let you have access to one NPC of your choice,” he then stared at Sans, who looked confused, “One NPC who will become your companion, your friend, or even your slave. It’s up to you what you want to do with that NPC. I’ll grant you access to become the master of the NPC you choose. How about it?”
Sans was shocked—he stared at Rays with disbelief. Is he serious? he thought in confusion.
What’s gotten into Rays? What is he planning? What’s his goal in doing this? All these questions piled up in his mind like a jumbled tower of blocks. However, Sans didn’t get any answers—no, he didn’t need to question it. Gaining “access” was a gift that couldn’t be refused—not when he was in such a broken state with so few options left.
“So?” Rays glanced at Sans, already knowing what Sans’s answer would be.
“That’s quite a spectacular gift. I accept it.”
Sans smiled, looking at Rays with a determined gaze.
“Now that’s more like it!”
And without hesitation, Rays grabbed Sans’s wrist tightly, a burning sensation immediately spread intensely. Sans couldn’t see because of the sudden explosion of light that blinded his eyes. He could feel something creeping into his body and mind. He felt an unusual freshness, his mind felt scrambled, and his soul trembled violently as if his heartbeat was racing fast, pumping the entire shock through him, creating chaos that left him feeling powerless.
Sans didn’t know what was happening. He felt convulsions, and it felt as though he were blind.
And at that moment, as his entire mind and body went into an intense shock, Sans felt that he could no longer feel anything, like numbness, and his legs weakened. This feeling was the same as when Rays gave him all the information about Undertale, only this time, it was more brutal, truly shocking, and panic-inducing.
Until finally...
“Get up, lazybones.”
Sans panicked, opening his eyes. He was no longer sitting in his chair, but instead, he was lying on the floor in a very disordered state. And, “Rays?” Sans’s eyes searched in all directions but found no one except himself in that place. It seemed, oh, it seemed that the demon was no longer there, vanished without a trace. Leaving Sans on the ground and returning to his throne.
“... Bastard.”
Sans staggered, his legs trembling, feeling incredibly exhausted. His breath came in short gasps, his energy dangerously low. He felt so weak and crawled to the bench, leaning his back against it with a long sigh.
“Well, at least he kept his promise … a fair game, huh.”
***
Sans walked through Waterfall, not enjoying the beautiful scenery surrounding him. His eyes were scanning for the figure he had targeted. He accepted Rays's gift, even though he knew that Rays had no intention of helping him. He's not a good person willing to help his opponent, Sans is not that naive to think that Rays have the heart to think of something good and moral. Rays only wanted to spice things up with more surprises. It's the only thing that makes him feel alive, and not a program that has no taste whatsoever-a loser bemoaning his fate, and since Rays couldn't watch him for 15 days, it left him guessing about what Sans would plan.
And eventually, not long after, he found the person he wanted, Frisk of course. However....
“He's fighting Undyne, huh.”
Sans hadn't realized that the game was being played by a player during his meeting with Rays. He stood at a safe distance, silently observing their battle, and suddenly, a thought crossed his mind, disturbing him.
A surge he had never felt before, like a gentle stroke on his back. Whispering cruel words in a calm tone, he felt a sense of peace yet faint fear. He had strayed far from his usual self; this time, the dark abyss had reached out, grabbing his hand and holding him tightly.
"Welcome," it said. Sans closed his eyes, letting his body drift further away into it, far from the person he once was.
“… Maybe it’s worth trying,” he whispered.
The first step for Sans was to step onto his darkest path.
He stared intently at one of them, the sharp tip of a bone as sharp as a knife protruding into the air, waiting for blood to flow from its tip. It was a very wrong step, Sans realized that. But there was no other way; he had to do it. He couldn't hesitate, or he would meet the end of his defeat again—his morals had been shattered into pieces. What lay before Sans’s eyes was just a collection of code, NPCs that had no life, not even understanding their own world. That was what he tried to see in Undyne—he didn’t want to see her the way he used to.
Sans denied his old self and stood with his new one.
Sans wouldn't back down, he would cross that treacherous path.
“I’m sorry.”
A barrage of hundreds of bones shot quickly, impaling its target mercilessly, tearing it apart like sheets of paper scattered in the air. Sans stood helpless as he witnessed one of his friends die by his own hands. Undyne, dead quickly, unable to react or even understand why she deserved that brutal death. The blood flowed, soaking his body... It felt like drowning in a pool of mud filled with blood. Sans surrendered himself, letting himself sink deeper into it.
Sans knew his actions were terribly wrong. He didn't deserve forgiveness.
But Sans accepted it. There were things that needed to be sacrificed. And that was his feelings, his friend, and the old version of himself. No more of the humorous Sans, the prosecutor had been brought down from his seat of power, stained with sins that could never be cleansed.
“Heh, so this is what it feels like.”
Seeing the illusion of blood staining his hands, Sans smiled widely and exhaled.
“Truly disgusting.”

*Flowey wraps himself around Kara’s hand like a hug, just watching and glaring at Dess the whole time. Once they leave back into the kitchen, Flowey whispersto Kara a bit.*
You have to be really careful who you like. So far your relationship choices haven't been going so well. I'm glad you realize it at least, even if it took awhile. Not everyone is like Frisk, so determining who is a good or bad person wont always be obvious.
Now let’s get back to breakfast! Did Toriel finish up with what she's doing? If not, then I can help.*Flowey speaks to the group. Toriel probably started cooking already so he gets there wouldn't be much left to do anyway. Although it would be nice, the world doesn't wait when one flower is out.
(Toriel) "Oh, I'm sorry. I already finished. I'll give you an extra piece as an apology."
(Kara) "That's very thoughtful of you! Anyway, can we talk about Dess."
(Toriel) "Yes, what is it?"
(Kara) "They just attacked, Flowey."
(Toriel) "Oh, I'm sure you are just exaggerating."
(Kara) "She choked him. Does that sound like exaggerating!?"
(Sans) "Hey, don't scream at her."
(Kara) "Shut it, Sans! I'm talking to Toriel!"
(Toriel) "You... mean it?"
(Kara) *Nods their head.*
(Toriel) "I'm sorry, Flowey. I don't know what's with her, but I'll find out why she's doing this. She's never acted like this before!"
(Kara) "You have a point. She used to be mad at everyone but could usually keep it in."
(Papyrus) "Maybe some spaghetti can cheer her up!"
(Kara) "I think we should just enjoy our food. If Dess doesn't want any, give her food to Flowey. That could be her punishment."
*Meanwhile.*
(Noelle) "GOD DAMN IT! Why would you do those awful things? Why? *Looked in a mirror.*"
*Suddenly, someone looking like Noelle looked back at Noelle.*
(???) "You know why. You can't control it."
(Noelle) "I can and will."
(???) "You've tried your hardest. We both have! Maybe it's time you give it a rest."
(Noelle) "And then what? Why couldn't you have been easier? Out of all the people to be mean to everyone, it had to be you, Dess."
(Dess) "That's how it goes! I can hold in all my anger. If you use my body, you can't. I gave you mine so you and Kara could get back together! You don't know what to do with hate."
(Noelle) "No, it will work out! Me and Kara will fall in love again and live happily ever after. It'll be perfect. IT WILL!!!"
(Dess) "Fine. Good luck, sister. I'd give my life for you."
(Noelle) "You did."
(Dess) "Don't make me regret it."
#undertale#the white soul#kara#flowey#ask flowey#noelle holiday#dess holiday#papyrus#sans#I thought I could clarify what is going on#This probably doesn't give you too much info.#I won't tell you how Dess did this until later.

Well, let's see, there was the one where everyone was "shifted" around. Asriel, there was an adorable kid with this cool rainbow scarf. It was strange seeing Mom as a royal guard and even stranger seeing Sans as a king. But, I was alive in that one, so I liked it. Azzy was embarrassed by seeing himself acting like that. I didn't let it go for weeks.
There was one where Frisk and I are both male, and I'm a raging alcoholic and Azzy has a successful streaming career. That one was fun, I was hilarious while drunk. This one Azzy kept teasing me about, claiming that if I wasn't the princess, I'd be like them, unemployed.
There was one where Frisk was still a kid and opened a blog like this one for fun. Their Chara was evil at first, but thanks to Asriel and friendship, they were revived in their old body and are now a skeleton. Oh, and Azzy is alive as well. This one we both enjoyed, it was nice seeing things work out for our younger selves.
It's possible you already knew about these, but they are the one that jump to my mind first.
Now that i think about it, Azzy and I didn't have too many adventures after that one...
*She goes silent for a moment as if contemplating something*
This last one is on the darker side, so I understand if you don't want to hear about it. It was definitely the roughest time we had in any of these other worlds. To be honest, it still haunts us both a bit.
Frisk: "We haven't really gone out much, we usually talk and joke and... occasionally fight with the ones who come to us, I wouldn't mind adventuring out like you guys, it sounds like a lot of fun,"
Flowey: "Is it possible that your Asriel is going on adventures with Cassandra instead?"
The Queen then speaks up again after the moment of silence.
Flowey: "Hmm...as much as I love dark stories, I think I want to pass on this one, we've heard a little too much about the worst alternate worlds recently, and some of them make even me sick to my stomach,"
Frisk: "Yeaaahh, I'm going to pass too, if he can't handle something, then I definitely can't either,"
Chara doesn't give an answer, so it is to be assumed they either agree with the other two teenagers, or just does not care.
#undertale ask blog#flowey ask blog#ask blog#teen!frisk#teen!flowey#teen!chara#so a queen bursts into a room arc#the star family#the broken armed arc#mun: Flowey is fully aware that he has favoritism issues and there's only a few people he really considers his close friends and he's picky#which is why he asked about the other Asriel and Cassandra...he's guessing that he's similar in that way#because some days the only person he really tolerates is Frisk#and if Chara is visible...them too#and Papyrus...but he's a very very busy skeleton
