Part 1 || Part 2 || The wedding
The French Quotes Series Masterlist
Lee Heeseung was a man of logic.
Which left no room for the poetry in him, although he did say that he enjoyed it a lot.
He was a prince, a ruler soon to ascend the golden throne of Tarnow. Stupid name, he had always thought, it sounded like a wheelbarrow carrying a bunch of tar pieces.
But he had often heard that the poets never allowed someone to go on with their life just like that. What kind of poets would they be if they did that?
And so he had to be betrothed. With a star studded ring on his finger, an imitation of a smile on his face, and a bride by his arm. And a ceremony where there would be flowers, and dancing.
Dancing!
Heeseung had a clandestine love for dancing. The curve of arms and fingers, the movement of hips, the ballet of the feet twirling to create an invisible picture on the ground. And yet, no one knew of this rendezvous of his. Well, almost no one.
"Hyung are you really sure you're alright?" Heeseung's daydream was interrupted by a honey sweet voice from above him. "Get down from the tree, idiot." Another voice, strong as iron reprimanded him.
Sim Jake and Park Jay.
Two of Heeseung's band of best friends.
They had grown up together, due to their parents being close friends, what with the never ending borders they shared between the kingdoms. And he could always count on them to give him advice, whether it be of a bastard's or of a sage's.
"Unless you want to break your arm again, get down from that dumb tree." Jay scolded the brown haired boy, who was, at the moment, hanging upside down from a willow tree, "But you need another reason to visit your best friend don't you loverboy?" Jay added with a cheeky smile.
"As if you have more love in your life" Jake shot back, promptly jumping down from the branches onto the grass with a soft thump.
"Would you two stop bickering and help me out of my current predicament?" Heeseung snapped, letting out a sigh and leaning against the bark of the willow. He had always liked this particular tree. He remembered his mother's hands carefully handling the roots and planting the tiny sapling into the wet mud, talking about how the Duchess' daughter had ran off with some ragamuffin. It was a majestic tree now, like how the poets described the trees of the Gods to be like. He had liked that poem a lot, the one about trees and princesses and first kisses under first snows.
"You're going to get married to a completely random princess, big deal." Jay rolled his eyes, settling comfortably onto the freshly mowed grass. He was often the more mature one out of all of them.
"Where on earth are Sunghoon and Sunoo?" Heeseung questioned, checking his pocket watch. He shook his head, his other two friends didn't exactly know the meaning of being on time.
"Probably kissing themselves." Jake smirked, flicking a leaf at Jay to annoy him, which worked when Jay got up from his sleeping position with a glare smeared on his face and slapped Jake's head.
"Just pretend you have affection towards her and all that and it'll be over in a minute." Jay adviced wisely, looking over at Heeseung's drooping figure. "I wish it was that easy." Heeseung sighed, "I don't want to get married, what if she's snobbery?"
"Hyung don't get poetic." Jay said sternly, moving his head to face Heeseung, "What is even love in these ages? And I am sure she'll be wonderful enough to make you some heirs."
"What's her name again?" Jake questioned, looking at the tree with his tongue stuck out, probably contemplating whether he should climb it again or not, "I hear she's of the far East."
"Princess Y/N of the Kingdom of Witchelm." Heeseung scoffed, "Ooh maybe they have witches!"
"Absolutely not." Jay sighed with a tiring expression.
"Whatever, I'm hoping to pay Priscilla a visit today." Heeseung pushed his hair out of his face.
"Does she love you yet?" Jake ashed with a cheeky grin.
"God I hope not." Heeseung shuddered, "She's just got a good mouth and a nice pussy for me to take. See you later boys."
"Fuck I needed this." Heeseung sighed laying back. The girl looked up at him as she placed her hand onto his cock, her other hand resting on his thigh. She licked the underside of it slowly back up, circling her tongue around the head.
"Fuck has your mouth gotten prettier since last time?" Heeseung chuckled, looking at the girl.
"Shut up and let me do my work." She responded, "You know this is the last time right?"
Heeseung scoffed and placed his hands on her head. "I know."
The girl took the head into her mouth, causing him to jolt. He patted her head which soon turned into him gripping her hair when she went back down again, now bobbing her head up and down. Making sure she reached all the way to the base, Heeseung helped by pushing Priscilla down further.
“Keep doing that thats a good girl” he stuttered out. The hand that was on his thigh reached down to massage his balls, lightly squeezing.
Would his new bride be good at giving him what he wants? Heeseung didn't know anything about her. Nor did he care really. She's probably the regular Mary Jane, a dull lifeless, smiling body, without balance in anything. He wished and prayed fervently that some sort of ballerina took her place instead.
Maybe that'd finally make him happy.
The reflection of Heeseung's mirror stared back at him, not noticing the utter beauty of his eyes. He never cared much for his handsome features, much preferring when people complemented how light he was on his feet.
But it was shameful for his parents.
Dancing? For a crown Prince? Preposterous!
It would have been outrageous if the kingdom found out that their prince preferred dancing over decrees. It wasn't that his mother and father didn't encourage his dancing, they loved seeing their son do what he loved. But to be a prince, a ruler, was to keep a reputation, and that couldn't be spoilt by something their son loved doing.
Heeseung sighed, taking a deep breath and counting his steps, every slow movement bringing him his happiness back inch by inch. Would his bride like dancing?, he wondered, that would be a pleasant thing. Atleast one thing in common with her.
His thoughts wandered carelessly as his feet did, sliding across the floor effortlessly, a gentle sway of the arm here and there, the ballet of a sawn without his mate.
He would be betrothed by tomorrow.
A fateful tomorrow, he hoped.
"And now we introduce, Princess Y/N of the Witchelm Kingdom!"
The man had a ridiculously nasally voice in Heeseung's opinion. Maybe they should replace him with someone who doesn't sound much like a parrot.
"Heeseung stand up straight." Heeseung's mother snapped at him from his right shoulder. Silently grumbling, he obeyed and adjusted his drooping figure along with the drowsy expression on his face. He would have rather ate a carrot than do this right now. The sound of bells and trumpets and what not, and all the ridiculously maroon stained curtains irritated him far too much. The sun was broiling hot, and there was not even an inch of a cloud in the sky. And his nose was rather itchy as well. Perhaps he should ask Jake for that rum again...
"Welcome to Tarnow, Princess." His father's formal voice broke Heeseung out of his train of thoughts, and as he snapped back to his senses, he realised the presence of a figure standing before him. Not caring to lift his eyes to look at the figure, he quickly bowed.
"How was the journey, my dear?" His mother asked in a saccharine sweet voice. She only ever used them with babies, Jay and extra important guests.
"Well the carriage certainly did not like the hefty rocks, but it was pleasant." Heeseung thought he had heard an angel speak for a moment, "Your kingdom is magnificent, Your Majesties." The figure in front of Heeseung curtsied, and that's when he caught a whiff of her perfume.
It was intoxicating, as if it was pulling his closer.
His eyes flickered up, to take a peek at the woman. She was clad in deep shades of maroon with gold trimmings illuminating her figure perfectly. Was this his bride to be?
"Prince Heeseung." You threw a curtsy to him, noticing the way his fawn like eyes were staring at you. Maybe the rumours were right. All the princes of Paradoxica were scoundrels who lounged after women.
"Princess Y/N." Heeseung finally bowed back, and you took note of the fact that his eyes stayed to the ground, not lingering over your figure as most usually did. Maybe he did have a tinge of respect in him.
"Well why wait here in this heat? Shall we lunch inside?" The Queen said in a joviant manner, extending her hand to you, which you took gratefully and stepped inside the castle walls, finally feeling at peace.
You were completely unaware of the pair of deer eyes following you.
Heeseung's first thought upon seeing you was the way you wore yourself. He had often learnt that the best of dancers always moved differently, which was always evident whenever he'd attend balls. The truest dancers would always walk as if they owned the very earth they walked on. Heeseung always felt that they had clouds for shoes.
And the way you walked, the way you held your shoulders, the way you each step echoed with the sound of the air, there was no way you couldn't have been a dancer like him.
But you were a princess, he reminded himself, his soon to be Queen. Dancing was to be put to the side for some time.
Or so he thought.
The luncheon had went quite well in your opinion. Apart from the fact that the King and Queen would not stop talking about the proposal ceremony and the wedding, and their son smirking into his peas whenever his parents came upon the topic of grandchildren, it had gone by in a breeze.
You were happy that Heeseung hadn't talked to you. You were far too tired to have any 'getting to know each other' conversations. He seemed a bit monotonous to you, at first glance atleast. You had always learnt never to judge a book by it's cover. But sometimes advice was made to be ignored, so you simply went on with your day, not caring about what kind of a person Heeseung was.
The rumours were enough for you to summarise his persona anyway. The people of Witchelm talked about him as if he was a splendid rose, one everyone wanted to take a look at. Kind, courageous, handsome, generous, blah blah blah. You would rather have married a fish if it was described as more interesting than him. Although the rumour that he really 'got around' in terms of pleasure had interested you. If that had been true, maybe you did like him. Atleast he would be understanding to the fact that had lied to everyone that you were still a virgin.
Tarnow had been a luxuriant kingdom, known to everyone as the first kingdom formed in all of Paradoxica, the oldest one, it spoke quite well through the aching castle walls when you were exploring the southern wing.
It was in a word, beautiful, with the fading architecture and all the women clad in luxurious silver, dancing their hearts out on the street. How you wished ever so fervently that you could join them.
Dancing was your life ever since you took your first steps. Witchelm was renowned for dancing, for ballet, ballroom and everything in between. It was a pity that you hadn't heard anything about the hobbies of the Prince. Perhaps he preferred dancing too. That would be a pleasant surprise, you thought, as you stepped into your chambers, where all your luggage had been arranged neatly.
"I think I can take over from now on." You curtsied to the girl who had led you over to the chambers. She bowed back and was about to leave when you thought to ask her the question that had been lingering in your mind for long.
"Is there a ballroom here?" The girl turned back abruptly at your question. She had hair as dark as coal and eyes even darker. A pretty sight.
"Oh yes, your Highness." She smiled at you, "We have the biggest ballroom in all of Paradoxica in fact. Most of the King's balls and state dances are held here."
"Then, there must be a place where they practice their dances is there not?"
The girl chuckled at your question and clicked her feet together.
"There is a humongous room in the western part of the castle that's basically empty space for dancing. But the Crown Prince spends most of his time there at night, so we aren't allowed to go there much. I can show you the way if you want."
"The western wing." You sat on the bed with a soft thump, "I can find my route don't worry. Thank you for everything."
The crown prince and dancing..... Peculiar. Very peculiar, you thought as you lay on the bed. You were thankful for finally getting out of the heavy purple gown, and putting on some actually comfortable robes. Although you had begged your mother to let you wear your favourite lavender shades, your mother has refused and put you in the darkest and most sweltering maroon gown. It was safe to say that you were a panting dog by the time you got out of the gown.
Picking up your quill and paper, you smoothed out the creases as you thought about what to write to your best friend back home. Gaeul was the kind of person to find out everything about someone before loving them, no matter what methods she used, so it wouldn't be a problem if you wrote 'i think the Prince likes dancing because a girl told me an extremely insignificant detail' in the letter to be sent to her.
Dipping your quill into the ink pot, you were about to start your letter when-
Knock knock knock
The door tapped thrice. It was safe to say that you were confused. Lunch was just five hours ago and it wasn't even dinner time yet, the sun hadn't set even though the sky had turned a deep purple.
Donning a clock over your robes, you stepped out of the comfortable silks of the bed and strode over to the magnificent, carved door. Tugging on the handle, the door made a creaking noise at it opened, making you cringe at the sound. You caught a figure lingering at the door. The same girl was there, the one who had led you here earlier today.
"Oh hello there." You said, opening the door to its full length, "What is the matter?"
The girl shuffled her feet before your eyes fell on her hands. A tiny black box.
"Someone left this in my chambers with a note attached to it your Highness." She said, "It gave the instruction to give it to you."
You looked at the box with uncertainty before snapping your eyes up to the girl. You took the box from her, your finger gently brushing against hers.
"What is your name?" You questioned, realising that you hadn't asked for it before. "Giselle, Your Highness." She answered, still looking at the ground.
"Thank you Giselle. You may go now." You shot her a smile which she returned meekly and scampered off.
Closing the door behind you, you eyed the box with uncertainty. What if it was some poison which wafted into the air as soon as you opened it? What if there was a lizard inside? You really did hate those dumb creatures. Thousands of thoughts flooded your mind as you looked at the box. You were reminded of your father's words to stop reading so many books with plots of bloodshed and mystery. As if you'd ever stop.
Caressing the box with your hand, you noticed how fine of a quality it had, it couldn't have been sent by any ordinary person. You lifted the lid of the box with hesitation running through your veins, only to find inside......a necklace?
A dainty pearl necklace lay inside the box, along with a tiny note, which you did not notice at first. You were far too captivated by the shimmering necklace. Pearls were a rare occurence in Witchelm, with it being a landlocked kingdom. But Tarnow, you had heard, had a vast coastline, so pearls were easily found.
You pondered upon who it could have been sent by. A secret admirer perhaps? The thought did excite you. But who on earth would send a box like this in these times?
As your thoughts ran wild through a forest again, your hand slightly tilted the box, and the note fell out. You bent down to pick it up and immediately took note of the fact that it was paper which was used for royal decrees. A secret admirer from the ministry?
Unfortunately your mind was disappointed as you ran your eyes through the note.
Wear it for me princess. Love, Heeseung.
Of course. A secret admirer, what were you even thinking? No one would have the courage to give the princess of a foreign country, a pearl necklace.
Rolling your eyes, you settled the box and the necklace into a drawer and put the tiny note into a separate one. The prince had a handsome signature, far better than your scribbles anyway.
The western wing had never seemed like a more interesting place
"I hope you find the chambers a comfortable place my dear?" The Queen's voice rang in your ear. God the atmosphere of the dining table made your hands sweaty.
The little conversations you had with the King and Queen weren't enough conversation for you. It was too.....formal, to regal. You wanted fun, but you knew you wouldn't get that. Not until tonight atleast.
Your plan to sneak out into the western wing was extremely flawed but you had not a care in the world. So what if there would be hundreds of people standing guard? You were quick on your feet, a dancer's gift.
You had silently observed Heeseung throughout the dining session. He seemed quiet, all the talkative ones do at first glance. You noticed the way his foot tapped away every now and then without a care and his fingers drummed his fork in hand. You hadn't a single idea if it was on purpose or not. You had read in the book Gaeul once loaned you that artists, like painters or dancers, can never keep their body still. They always have to be doing something with their hands or feet. So either Heeseung was secretly a painter, or he was a dancer. The former seemed to have more possibilities but it could always be the latter considering Giselle's words about the western wing.
Only one way to find out.
Your skin was filled with goosebumps as you walked down the chilly corridor. You were greatly surprised that there weren't many guards, perhaps Tarnow cared less about security.
You shouldn't doing this, this is dangerous, said a voice in your mind, but did you ever listen to it? No, no you did not.
The western wing was easy to locate, what with the huge painting of a woman pointing her finger towards a large corridor, with the words "Western wing" engraved onto the painting. It was darker than the other parts of the castle, maybe it was a secret wing shut off to everyone else except the Prince. There weren't many doors here either, which caused you to let out a sigh of relief. The dancing room would be easier to find.
And it indeed was, as you now stood in front of a huge oak door, the only one for miles on end. You hoped fervently that it wouldn't creak like the door to your chambers. And to your relief, it thankfully didn't, and the spectacle inside made you let out a gasp.
The prince.
So he wasn't a painter after all.
He was a dancer!
A plain show of beauty, you thought, the Prince was. He looked ordinary at first glance, but now, as your eyes trailed his moving figure, his feet gracefully gliding across the floor, hitting each moment to the melodies of the song he was humming, you'd have thought it was Apollo's incarnate himself. You were mesmerized by him, by his every movement, he was gentler than a swan with his fingers, his robe moving in sync as if he had been commanding it.
My my, he looked like a groom in need of a bride, you thought. You didn't know whether it was past midnight yet, even as the clock struck itself and made a loud noise, you were too distracted by the dancing prince. You would have loved to watch him for a bit more, if not for-
CREAK!
Stupid door!
Heeseung's head whipped around to the door as his humming and dancing stopped abruptly. "Who's there?" He cried, clutching his hand to his sword belt, "Come out!"
There was only one idea in your mind at that moment.
Run.
You hoped fervently the next day that the bags under your eyes would be put off by everyone as exhaustion from the long journey. You hoped that no one thought "Oh the princess obviously must have sneaked out to the dance room and ogled the prince!" Although the possibility of that happening was very low.
You slyly avoided the Queen's questions about your sleep by asking her about when the royal potrait of the groom and bride to be would be painted. And she responded with much happiness that it was to be this afternoon!
This afternoon. With the prince. Wasn't that a joy?
Your schedule was much packed that day, which was disappointing since you had wanted to sneak out to see the main ballroom which Giselle had informed you was in the Northern wing. First, you had to get into your gown for the portrait, which would easily take the entire afternoon. Then the actual portrait session would arrive and God knows how much time a simple layer of paint will take to dry.
"Do you paint my darling?" The Queen asked. "Yes." You answered, knowing damn well you couldn't draw a line if you wanted to. Well a lie in a lie is a truth wasn't it?
Afternoon arrived and so did the sweat drops on your forehead. Damn this gown, you thought as you dragged the heavy on the floor. You decided the first thing you'd do after becoming Queen is ban whatever material this is.
Approaching the door where the Queen had directed you to, you took the handle in hand and tapped it thrice to let whoever was inside know that you had arrived. "Come in." A familiar princely voice answered.
Oh great.
"My Lord." You sunk into a curtsey, not letting your eyes meet Heeseung's. Had he always been this tall and handsome or were you dreaming?
"Heeseung, princess, call me Heeseung." He wore pride quite well in his cunning smirk, you thought, as you looked at him quintessentially.
"Then you may call me by my name as well." You replied, glancing behind him to see an easel propped up, "Where is the painter?"
"Oh him? He's always late." Heeseung leaned back against the table behind him, "So princess, enjoying the palace's attractions?"
"Stop calling me that." You said, rolling your eyes out of annoyance, "And if the attraction is you, then no I'm not." He made the word seem like an enchanting melody, the handsome bastard.
"Would you prefer darling?" He smirked, pushing the stray strands of hair out of his face again. He looked like a siren, pulling you into an ocean you wanted to escape from, but didn't know how.
"Say, my darling," he leaned forward, looking at you with darkened eyes, "You're still a virgin aren't you?"
"Why, do you want to corrupt me?" You scoffed, settling yourself down on the loveseat, "Well bad luck, I'm not."
Heeseung looked taken aback for a moment, his eyes widened and he blinked a few times, but he composed himself quickly.
"Ah we have a little liar do we?" He chuckled lowly, his eyes still looking you up and down, "So you're a bad girl aren't you?"
"I don't care Lee." You crossed your arms, "This is just a marriage for politics, there's no way in hell you are going to magically make me fall in love with you, like in the books."
"You read romance?" Heeseung cocked his head to the side, "Well there's a thing we have in common."
The door to the room burst open before you could get another retort out and you breathed a sigh of relief as the painter rushed in with his assistants and started running about arranging everything.
You were even more thankful when you had to sit down for the portrait, far away from Heeseung. Although a weird pose, you supposed the painter would magically make something out of it.
Heeseung was more interesting that you had previously thought. Atleast he didn't treat you with the insufferable respect most princes did. He was....cocky, rude, daring. A rather sweet taste on your tongue.
Oh how you couldn't wait to sneak out to the west wing again.
You remembered to bring a shawl this time, draping it around your shoulders so that the cold, carved rock of the palace wouldn't let your skin break. You cursed yourself for almost knocking over a piece of what looked like driftwood sitting atop a table, willing aways it's time. The kingdom of Tarnow really had its unusual traditions.
The conversation you had with Heeseung today ran in your mind over and over again and again. You liked the taste of him, the way he stood, the way he held himself. And the way he spoke. You were going to have to come up with new retorts everyday. Well that's more interesting than suffering a life of 'i love you' or 'i will die for you'.
But for now, peering at him through the slightly ajar door was more than enough. Oh how he danced, the movements he made, an astral ballet in the air. He looked at peace, that cocky and confident demeanor was no more, it was replaced, instead by calm and cool. Your eyes tried not to linger to his waist and arms, how his shirt pressed tightly against his muscles. The sinful thought of having a touch of them echoed through your mind. The curve of his body fascinated you, oh he looked as pretty as an angel. Perhaps there is more to Heeseung than you thought.
"She's interesting, too Interesting." Heeseung drawled, as he chewed on his quill tip. To his right sat Park Sunghoon, another crown prince, who had inherited his kingdom without marriage and without everything Heeseung despised. At the moment, he was the only one who could provide Heeseung some comfort.
"Interesting as in she didn't fawn over you or interesting as in she's no a virgin?"
"Both." Heeseung answered leaning back in his chair, "And she's such a mystery, god I want to know more about her."
"There is a thing called conversation you know." A third voice called from across the room. A red haired man was sitting atop the table, casually willing away at grapes.
Kim Sunoo. The youngest crown prince.
"Oh really?" Heeseung smirked, "I though conversation wasn't mandatory or what was it you said last time Sunoo? 'Conversation is only for the loveless?'."
"You know who I meant it for." Sunoo rolled his eyes and hopped off the table promptly, "Anyway the Princess of Witchelm seemed a lovely character. I had a brief incursion with her out in the garden, and she's.....interesting."
"That's what hyung said too." Sunghoon popped a grape in his mouth from the table, clenching his face at the sour taste, "Just run up to her and you know, ask her what she likes."
"Great advice, Sunghoon."
"As if you can do better."
The gardens of Tarnow were a place you reveled in. The freshly mown grass, the sweet scent of daffodils, and the sight of bees almost everywhere elated you. And most importantly, the willow tree.
The grandiose tree reminded you of someone who knew what they were worth, like a Queen who knows exactly what she wants. That's who you wanted to be. A Queen who rebelled, headstrong like your mother always told you to be. And you would fill the streets with dance, music and laughter. Maybe even prompt Heeseung to show off his moves....
"And to what do I owe this pleasure?"
Death would have been more pleasurable than to endure Heeseung right now, as his voice disrupted your peace and quiet.
"You owe your hand in marriage apparently." You stared straight at him, not daring to break eye contact, which was hard considering how menacing Heeseung's stare was.
"Admiring the willow eh princess?" Heeseung plopped down next to you, landing on the grass with a soft thump, "You know, I planted this when I was an adorable child."
"Adorable?" You scoffed, "More like a fiend." Heeseung chuckled at your statement, turning his head to look out towards the landscape.
"I planted most of the trees in this garden." He said, staring ahead with unwavering affection in his eyes at all the greenery, "They've grown a lot since then, my mother says that planting them at a young age allows them to grow with you." The love in his tone made you want to coo at him, but you composed yourself, remembering what kind of a person he was.
"Was that too cheesey?" Heeseung smiled, turning his eyes to yours. "Just a little." You responded, not having the heart to break the moment.
The silence that followed was a dire one, but it was peaceful. Heeseung and you sat in it as if you were fluent, letting the breeze whip your hair about, and the grass seep into your veins. You were so immersed in the butterfly landing on the daffodil that you didn't even notice the leaves sticking to your hair.
"Your hair looks like a bird's nest right now, princess." You heard Heeseung laugh as you turned your head towards him. "Excuse me?" You said, pulling your hand up to stroke your hair, being horrified when you pulled pieces of leaves sticking to it.
"Oh for fuck's sake." You mumbled under your breath, "Ah damn this, I'm going back to the chambers. Good day, Heeseung."
"With a nest in your hair?" Heeseung raised a cocky brow, "Princess, be logical. No one is going to respect a future Queen who looks like she's walked out of a jungle." Heeseung's words were mean but true, "You know I can just remove them, if you ask kindly with that pretty mouth of yours."
You had never wanted to slam his head into a wall more than now. But your reputation also mattered. You were torn between the two choices; Heeseung or risking your reputation?
"Fine." You sat back down on the ground, "Take them out."
"Nicer, princess. Add a pretty please too."
Oh he was on thin ice. You rolled your eyes and grumbled, "Could you please take these leaves out of my hair? Pretty please?"
The scent of Heeseung's neck pressed to your nose as he leaned over to remove the leaves carefully. He touched your hair rather gently, as if you were a fragile doll, which surprised you. Your hand kept lingering at his stomach, holding itself back from touching his muscles.
"There." Heeseung leant back, "All pretty princess again." "Thanks." You muttered, making your way to get up.
"Uh uh uh princess, we aren't done yet." Heeseung pulled you back down, making you snatch your hand away from him, "I want to strike a deal with you."
That night as you watched Heeseung dance gracefully on the stone floor, you wondered how this was the same person you had met in the morning. The same person who had made you a wretched deal, now danced under soft candlelight, unaware of his future bride watching him through clandestine corners.
"Meet me in my chambers tomorrow, and I'll think about not spilling to everyone, your little 'pureness' secret."
Fuck the world. That was your first thought as you woke up the next day, got dressed, had breakfast, had a conversation with the Queen, and made your way down to Heeseung's chambers.
For what purpose must this have been done? For what purpose did you have to be betrothed to a man like him?
"Fine day, isn't it princess?" Heeseung smirked at you from behind his desk. Papers and scrolls were strewn all over the desk, along with ink pots and a couple of what seemed to be drying paintings. A few more were hung up on the wall.
"Is this why your mother asked me if I paint?" You traced your finger over a dried painting of a daffodil. Still life, boring as it may be, still caught your eye. Heeseung smiled to himself.
"She asks everyone that, thinks her grandchildren will be some sort of prodigies." "Grandchildren?" You looked up from the painting to Heeseung's smug face, "We aren't even close to friends and she wants grandchildren?"
"Rule of Law princess, there's an entire book about it." Heeseung leaned back, spreading his legs a bit further, god that shirt stuck to his muscles well.
"What am I doing here anyway?" You scoffed, sitting back on the chair facing him, "You want me to do your assignments or something?"
"Assignments, actually." Before you could blink a huge stack of papers lay in front of you, all stamped with decrees, "And in return you'll get some get sex and your secret not being spilt."
"Good sex?" You laughed haughty, "I highly doubt that. Especially from you."
"You think I can't fuck you better than your lovers?" Heeseung raised a brow at you, leaning back against his desk. "No I don't think so." You simply replied, reaching out a hand to get one of the decrees, but it was caught by Heeseung and before you could even flinch, he had you pressed against the desk.
"Want to test that theory?"
Your retort stuck in your throat when you engaged in a searing kiss and your lips met aimlessly—a real mess of tongues and teeth. Heeseung licked a strip across your teeth and thrust his tongue deeper, exploring the inside of your mouth like a sacred temple with only one chance to visit. Heeseung opened his mouth and gasped, lingering with a few more short, honeyed kisses between his panting breaths and your muffled moans. You scolded yourself for even getting a sound out of yourself at Heeseung's touch.
Heeseung's hand moved up your thigh, and you pressed your mouth to his throat, sucking hard enough to leave a mark.
"That's not the ideal place to leave a mark princess." Heeseung glared at you, to which you merely shrugged your shoulders. So what if Heeseung had a few hickeys on display to the kingdom?
Heeseung's hand travels upto your back, easily removing the dainty dress you had on. You silently thanked Giselle for giving you a dress instead of a gown today.
“is this what you wanted?” you slid your panties to the side, as Heeseung was about to reach further down your slide. He wouldn't have admitted it but he almost drooled at the sight of you. Taking a second to admire you, his voice echoes through your body, “I wonder how many others can have you like this.”
"Not many." You keep your eyes on him, "none of them fuck me as well as I want them to."
You lean forward a bit, making sure he gets a fantastic view of your cleavage. You decide to push the boundaries a bit further, your voice dropping to a sultry tone, fingers playfully tracing the edge of your bra's strap.
Heeseung's exhales a shaky breath, "you're playing with fire, y'know that?" His voice is low, it only spurs the warning and longing lingering inside you.
The world narrows down to the heat of his touch, the electrifying sensation of his fingers on your skin. You feel the rapid beat of his heart against your chest, mirroring your own anticipation. Heeseung's eyes, lock onto yours, a silent agreement passing between you.
Your nails scrape against his scalp and you squeak in shock as Heeseung's hips surge upwards, forcing his hard cock against you. The unabashed moan he lets slip is sinful and it’s all you want to hear for the rest of your life. You can’t stop the urge building up inside you, you’re not even certain you can stop moving your hips even if you wanted to.
His fingers catch the waistband of your bottoms. Heeseung traces your clit over the fabric feeling the warm, wet patch you’re leaving in them and then he teasingly slips a finger underneath, swiping two fingers along your slit, thumb, and index finger opening your pussy to his gaze. He presses a finger inside of you, slowly stretching out your tight hole. You groan, and his eyes roll back at the way your walls stretch around him. You rock harder against him, fucking yourself into his finger and wrapping your arms around his neck again. you just want to feel him against you.
"Fuck you're a tight one." Heeseung smirks into the crook of your neck, taking in your delicious scent, "Is this good enough for you princess?"
His half-lidded eyes look up at you as you contort on top of him, feeling overstimulated, with a single finger. He coos, his other hand sweeping over the back of your head sweetly, pushing back stray sweaty hairs. He nudges your nose with his, hand on the back of your neck, and tries to meet your eye. The squelch as his finger fucks into you, fast and deep, is the most beautiful thing he’s ever heard.
You can feel the tightening of your stomach, your intestines begging for air as your mind wants nothing more but to break free. The sweet edge of release feels better than ever with Heeseung than anyone else you've ever done this with. Fuck was he good. Just as you felt his finger sweep across your cunt one more time, and hot liquid come upto your cervix-
"Heeseung!" You gasped, feeling the painful feeling of having him pull his finger away from you. His smirking face added the fuel to the fire of your anger, as he slowly bent away from you, collapsing onto a chair and spreading his legs far. God did you want yourself propped on that thigh.
"I already told you princess." Heeseung's smug voice infuriated you, "Sex as a reward remember? And you haven't done anything so no reward. Simple logic."
"fuck you" "When princess?"
You were thankful Heeseung didn't make you work all night, you had time to admire his dancing again. He seemed so different when he was alone, so much more gentler, and it only made you hate him more. Why all the cocky behaviour when he was surrounded by people? You liked this softer side of him. You wished that he would get the courage to show that side to the world. Maybe in due time as all things come.
The rest of the days went the same. Rise and shine in the morning, greet Giselle as she gave you your bath, breakfast and burrowings, rush off to Heeseung in his chambers, do your 'assigments' whilst glaring at Heeseung, who glared back, get the desk a bit messier than it had been, and then sneak off to the western wing at late night to watch Heeseung. It was a bit redundant, but you liked this. Maybe it was the fact that Heeseung was someone who made you cum properly (although you wouldn't admit it) or maybe it was the fact that, from the past few days, he had started opening up to your more.
Ignoring the fact that your time with each other consisted of making angry retorts, you noticed that now, you knew more about Heeseung than before. His friends, family, ancient history, his hobbies everything, from A to Z was in your memory now. And you had to admit that you liked knowing more about him.
His sunlit eyes everyday as they silently perked up at the sight of you, the way his mouth dropped to give you the daily retort along with a tiny compliment too, the way his smirks now turned into smiles, and the way he leant nonchalantly against the great willow, when you'd go out into the garden for a little rest. Was this the love the poets described?
"Good news princess." Heeseung strode into his chambers as you stretched your neck from sitting in the chair all day completing a decree, "We're having a ball."
Collapsing on his bed with a thump, Heeseung groaned as he stretched out his aching limbs. Jay really did always do a number on him in practice.
"A ball?" You questioned, rising from your seat, walking over to the bed and climbing on, "For us?" Heeseung looked at you and nodded. "It's supposed to be a pre-pre-pre wedding ball, according to mother dearest."
"Will there be dancing?" You asked excitedly. You hadn't danced in so long that your feet longed to be in some tap shoes and a big flowy gown again.
"Yep, and guess what?" Heeseung smiled at you, "We're going to dance together."
"Oh I am an amazing dancer." You bragged, raising your chin high, "So it's fine if I outshine you right?"
"Please, I am much better at dancing." Heeseung sat up, facing you, "It's fine princess, they'll notice you at the wedding if they don't at the ball."
"Dance for me then." You gave him a cheeky smile. Would he agree? This is what you had been wanting for a long time. "No." Heeseung merely said, checking his bitten nails.
"Are you that horrible of a dancer?" You chuckled. But before you had time to laugh more, a fluffy pillow landed straight on your face with force. Heeseung's smile had never been wider.
"Don't do that you bastard!" You cried, picking up a pillow and hitting his shoulder with it to which he laughed raucously. "Or what?" He laughed again, hitting you with the pillow repeatedly. Stray feathers let loose from the pillows but you had not a care in the world as Heeseung chased you around the room with the pillow clutched in his hand. This had been the most fun you've had in ages.
Young love? So refreshing for a narrator isn't it?
You looked stunning. Your reflection, clad in soft hues of your favourite colour stared back at you, as your eyes ran up and down your body, hugged tightly by the fabric.
The ball had came sooner than you had anticipated, maybe it was the fact that you were so excited for it.
You'd be dancing your heart out tonight. With Heeseung. How you had longed to match his movements for so long, and now you finally had the chance.
"How do I look?" You meekly asked Giselle, who looked like a jewel in her own gown. "Like a true Queen, my lady." She giggled, dipping into a tiny curtsy.
"Shall we move then?"
Heeseung hadn't been too excited about the ball. He had seen too many of them to be entertained by any. And plus, there wasn't a proper lady to dance with either. Where were you? His thoughts, which were running aloof, came to a halt as his eyes landed on someone descending from the staircase.
Was that....you?
Indeed it was, as he blinked his eyes a few times to get into his mind the fact that you, his bride to be, were walking down from the staircase, looking like someone he's always loved for centuries. That, he did, but of course he wouldn't tell you that. Your snarky remarks from time to time, the way you smiled at his retorts and the way you remained a complete mystery to him, no matter how much he found out about you. Love, love, love, was what Jay had told him.
"My lord." You dipped into a curtsey in front of Heeseung. God he smelled exactly like the willow, enchanting and sweetly poisoning. You tried your hardest to avert your eyes from the tightly hugging fabric around his arms and his belt too. You fervently wanted your hands to be tied to it.
"You look pretty, princess." Heeseung winked at you, wrapping an arm at your waist, but not before giving you a look of access, "May we?" He motioned towards the dance floor, where a few women and men had their arms wrapped around each other lovingly. Would Heeseung and you ever be like this, you thought, as he led you over to the marble floor. You would have liked that, you'd have liked that a lot.
You could feel the eyes on you as Heeseung took your hands to his lips and pressed a small peck there. "Ignore them." He smiled up at you, "Time to show off your dancing, princess."
Gulping down the breath you've had in for a long time, you gasped in silence as one of Heeseung's arms pressed against your waist in a position for your waltz. You took your breath in accordance with Heeseung as the violins whipped their bows and the grandiose music began.
Dance was often described as the art of the soul, you'd never seen a living example of it, until now, as your entire body and mind moved in synchronisation with Heeseung. It felt as if dancing on a cloud you've longed to be on, when you were swaying with him. His grip on yours, his eyes tracing yours, and his demeanor being the one of the swan you had spied on in the western wing, it enchanted you, pulled you in to the whirlpool of Heeseung himself. You could have stayed like this forever, swaying in a gown with Heeseung at your start.
Heeseung was intoxicated as well, it was sweet venom lacing his veins, as the clandestine rendezvous of your movements got him to the highest of highs, one that even the most addicted couldn't have reached.
"Enjoying the view?" You cocked a brow at him, noticing the way he was staring at you. You were thankful that a lot of other people had joined the dance and you weren't the only ones dancing now.
"Funny, I was about to ask the same thing." He smirked at you, his eyes tilting down to your cleavage.
"You've seen more than just my cleavage and it's still driving you crazy isn't it?" You raised your chin, "Pathetic, Heeseung."
"Pathetic is it princess?" Heeseung's voice dropped to a low, as he leant over to your ear, his breath hitting your cold skin, whispering words that made your breath drop.
"More pathetic than the western wing?"
To be continued.....

TWST HC Silver x Gn!Reader
I love the idea of trying to pursue Silver or even just trying to just be friendly with him. But everything, whether it be plant or animal is getting in your way and trying to stop you from achieving it.
You’d plan to surprise Silver with a lovely arrangement of flowers all nicely wrapped in a bow only to be immediately drowned by a dark cloud of rain. The lord of malevolence unknowingly ruining your plans having to coincidentally be in a sour mood. Unfortunately all the rain and wind had the bouquet completely torn and destroyed, leaving you hung with sadness.
Another time, you had been blessed with the opportunity to be given a tour of the NRC stables by Silver himself. Only for the problem being that the moment Silver’s back was turned, you had been immediately bit by his own horse. This initiating a physical brawl between you and it.
“Is something wrong? I thought I had heard some noise earlier.” Silver trailed off as he noticed your now disheveled hair and clothes, only to be met back with a wide reassuring smile from you and… his horse? “Nothing! Just a pretty big wind passed by is all.” You laughed as your arm remained resting around the horses neck, the two of you seemingly putting aside your fighting to put up face. Silver could only hum in response before continuing to show you around, strange he hadn’t felt any sort of wind earlier.
Or what about when you spotted Silver walking just ahead of you, giving you thought to catch up and say ‘hi’. But, a small squirrel who just happens to be quite fond of silver itself, decides to stop you in your tracks.
“I’ll kick you to the next fucking plane if I have to.” You sneered at the rodent as you had basically hunched down to whisper loudly in its face. The only response you got was a string of squeaks and clicks before getting an acorn thrown at your forehead, it leaving a small red bump. “You little-!”
No matter what you tried, big or small, it all went up in flames, snow, or just plain out ripped to shreds (that including you):
Your tray of baked goods were quickly stolen after being left out on the windowsill to cool. -Grim
The notes you made to help Silver study ruined by a spilled potion incident. -Ace
You had burned your hand by accidentally being knocked over while trying to deliver a hot bowl of soup to a bedridden Silver. -Sebek opened the door on you too hard…
A loose branch had swung and hit you in the ribs when you tried to alert a sleeping Silver in the botanical gardens. -Tree
And a nice flower crown you had just made had been stolen and given to Silver without your credit. -That stupid squirrel
You sighed to yourself, slumped in your own infirmary bed. Drooping in your own self pity and sadness. It just wasn’t meant to be, you supposed as you tried to itch at the bandages over your hand. It’s fine, there are other fish in the sea that are probably easier anyways. Even if this one was really pretty and nice and so special in your eyes, you sniffled as small pitiful tears prickled your eyes.
“Hey! Henchman, you have a visitor!” Grim stated as he patted his paws against your stomach. “Hm? ..!”
He was like a the sun rising above the horizon, filling the dark sky with beautiful rays of light. “Um, sorry if I came at a bad time. I’ve brought soup…” Silver said softly as he held up a plastic bag of warm food. Your mouth gaped, shaking your head quickly in response. “No! No, it’s ok come sit!” You eagerly invited as your feet practically kicked in joy while you laid in bed.
“It’s not much, but I thought it would help with getting your strength back up for now. I know it’s probably not as good as your soup, but consider it thanks for taking care of me for a while.” He smiled down at you as he unpacked the contents of food from its plastic container. This was probably the most you’ve ever heard him talk in all seriousness, “But- How did you know—?”
“Sebek told me. I didn’t want your kindness to go unnoticed so I assumed that the best way to pay you back was to take care of you in return.” Silver explained before holding up a spoonful of soup to your mouth, unknowingly drinking it right up. He flashed another soft smile only to realize you had completely passed out. “Uh— wait! (Y/n)?? (Y/n)?!..”

Confessions & relationships
Requested by anonymous: Hello! Can I please request boyfriend headcanons for Vincenzo, Jang Han Seok and Jang Han Seo and how they'll confess to their crush?
Pairings: Vincenzo boys x reader
Warnings: Jang Han-Seok, emotional abuse, toxic relationship
Vincenzo Cassano:
I don't think he would hide his crush to begin with
Asking you out:
so there are two options to his approach
one, you know
thus, not much to confess and it is very simple
he asks you out randomly, no real timing there
and does not wait for an answer, he just leaves and assumes it is a yes
second option, you're oblivious
he probably asked you out before and have you dismiss it as a friendly hang-out
thus he goes farther
probably some kind of big approach, maybe a party or at least a fancy dinner
asking you out would remain private though
As your boyfriend:
he's a sweet boyfriend and very romantic
don't be surprised at when you get a romantic outing or dinner every few weeks
he will spoil you
buys you whatever you look at for more than a second
he isn't home much when working, but makes sure to eat once a day with you
whether that be morning, afternoon or evening
if he can't, he will make it up whatever way he can
even if you don't mind it
you know about his actual job
but he makes sure to not ever come home hurt or bloodied up
because he knows it will worry you
if he does come home injured, he'll tell immediately
will patiently sit as you treat him
when sleeping, he'll always have you wrapped in his arms
is not opposed to be being the little spoon though if you want
just needs to feel your skin against his
if not, he can't sleep
overall a very good boyfriend
Jang Han-Seok:
Asking you out:
he's always very sweet to you
at your beck and call 24/7, like a small puppy at his owner
so very cute, always smiling
buys you your favorite drinks and snacks, leaving them for you to find
sometimes there is a cute gift along with those snacks
flowers are also not abnormal for you to find, small bouquets with varying flowers or just a single flower on your desk
so his confession will be something along those lines
it would be a public confession, but not too grand
he doesn't want to overwhelm you or force you to say yes
a bouquet in his hands and a bear that held a heart
will get on his knees if he deems necessary, but you're quick to pull him up if he even dares to try
everyone kind of freezes and waits for your answer
but it's a yes nonetheless
he explodes into giggles and hugs you
is happy for the rest of the week
As a boyfriend:
now, here's the thing
he starts as the sweetest boyfriend
but all of that changes after being together for about a month
it starts with little things
he's a bit more calm than before, more mature in a way
you don't mind that too much
it doesn't really change your dynamic
what you do mind is his possessiveness
it was mild in the start, pointed at people that made advances on you
which is logical, everyone is a bit like that
then it starts to branch out
colleagues first, then your friends and even family at one point
it started with snarky comments pointed to them
he didn't really care if they heard or not
and then he started shielding you
guilting you into staying with him
whenever you bring it up, he denies it and says he knows what is best for you
it comes to the point that you barely go outside
whenever you start to doubt your relationship and are thinking of breaking it off, he would love bomb you
big gifts and a lot of affection to make sure that you wouldn't leave
is not above locking you up at home
once again says that he is protecting you
you know better, but you don't leave
because you've seen what he can do
and you know he won't be afraid to hurt you
not a good boyfriend, don't think I need to explain further on that
Jang Han-Seo:
Asking you out:
now the normal one
well, if you ignore the trauma's he clearly has
his affection is no secret
he gets all mushy around you, so even you know
one problem
he doesn't notice that you reciprocate those feelings
which is a miracle because it is so obvious
you don't hold back on the flirting, because you know he likes you
but he never responds to it
when he gives you gifts, you once literally told him that you'd rather have him take you out for dinner
the man just giggles to himself while turning red, then just walks off while saying 'good joke'
walking is being nice, it's more of a skipping
when he does invite you to dinner, you ask if it is a date
he responds that it is just a friendly hangout since you're his only friend
but then he does ask you out
kind of...
he's practicing his speech to you while you just stand in the doorway
because he left the office door open
and when he finishes his speech, clearly proud of himself, you answer him
with a yes of course!
he jumps up like a snow leopard when it's cub scares them
like this:
then he starts stuttering, trying to explain what happened
you basically shut him up by kissing him
he will shortcut
it will take at least 5 minutes for him to reboot
when he does, he is just bewildered
remains very giggly and cute
a bit like what he is like with Vincenzo, but a bit more
As a boyfriend:
is literally the sweetest
will send you texts throughout the whole day
a lot of selfies from various things through the day
has no clue what his gym selfies do to you
will always pick you up after work and bring you home
more often his then yours though
will constantly buy little trinkets that you remind him of you
you tend to do the same after awhile
some gifts get a bit weird, but it's a funny thing between you two
everyone know you're dating
because he will not shut up about you
ever
people are begging you to make him stop
it's impossible
because he wears his heart on his sleeve
he is a bit insecure sometime though
afraid that you'll leave him for someone better
because he still believes he's not worth
thanks to someone
it's very clear when he feels like that
he'll begin with pouting if it is due to someone specifically
if not that than he'll just be sad
staring into space without any sign of being alive
it's quite terrifying actually
best case it is only a few minutes
wort case he's gone for days
usually you just stay by his side and reassure him
never forcing him out of the mindset
he does go to therapy to your request
and with each day, he gets better
more confident about himself and your relationship
overall, I think he's the most realistic boyfriend of the three

is there a season you associate with dom and mor? either individually, as a pair, or story-wise (both their current story and their prequel)?
dom struck me as a winter type, she kind of reminds me of a tall bare-branched tree in a snowy landscape. and mor reminds me of spring and flowers. i’d love to know if you had specific seasonal symbolism in mind for them.
and do you think they would’ve gotten along if they had met when they were younger? like high school age?
You're very close!! I do assiciate Dom with winter, but I actually associate Mor with autumn
I wrote a lot so under a readmore it goes lol
Mor is late autumn afternoons with warm tea, big blankets and sweaters. The type of day ideal for curling up with a favorite book and vinyl playing softly. The first bites of winter frost are starting to creep into the air, but there are earthy but vibrant colors everywhere. Her favorite flowers (roses and pansies) are still quietly in bloom. At her worst I think of her like that depressive mindfog of days wasted entirely in bed, but at her best she's like those indoor dates spent talking about your deepest feelings and dreams
Dom is like a quiet and snowy winter solstice night, desolate but also romantic. The types of nights where the snow eats up every sound, but reflects light and makes it easy to see where you're going. The type of night that makes you feel it's not so bad being alone even if the sky is pitch black. It's unbelievably cold, but the snow seems to glitter like ten thousand little crystals. At her worst I think of her like a disoriented blizzard, but at her best I think of her like a romantic Christmas date
I associate their prequel largely with their seasons of autumn and winter (it's generally the span of the story as well, it takes two seasons for them to meet and fall in love), while Dom & Mor is every season. I wanted d&m to go beyond themes that have trapped them, because together their lives become fuller and less claustrophobic. Their feelings of being trapped are released and they have to grow beyond their roles and motifs
And the last question: Would they get along if they met younger? Yes actually!! I think they'd have been friends very easily. They were both quiet and studious. Mor would've been intimidated by Domi at first, but if they talked she'd quickly realize she was kind. I actually think it would have been easier for them to become friends in high school because Dom was a lot less tortured then and didn't give off her terrible aura lol, and Mor was less neurotic and self-doubting (she gained a lot of her insecurities from her failed relationships). I think it might have been harder for them to bridge the gap of friends to lovers though. They probably would've had one of those "we were friends in high school and thru the years she helped me through a lot of my heartbreaks but now we're adults and I'm realizing she might actually be the one" type of stories LOLLL

Meeting Aisling (CYOA) 3
hiiiii ough this took forever :( don’t feel like it’s super good but new character! yay!!! he’s normal guys i promise (fingers crossed behind my back)
contains: captivity, faerie carewhumper, dryad guy of unknown whumperee status, references to past abduction(s), fantasy whump, fantasy setting, manhandling.
—————————————————
You decide to look for anything that could help you escape— or at the very least tell you where you are. The window is the obvious thing to look at, considering it’s the only other possible way out of the room. The gaps in the vines are big enough for you to stick your hands through, but you probably couldn’t get much further.
From the holes, you can see a village beneath the structure you’re in. People. There are people here. If you made enough noise, maybe someone would come and save you.
The trees around the village are thicker than most of the houses. Massive structures that you can’t even see the tops of. Branches as big as trains.
Even if the window wasn’t obscured, it’d be too high to jump from. You’re not going to have much luck with it.
You walk over to the vanity in one of the other parts of the room. The mirror greets you with your disgruntled state, twigs and flowers sticking out of tangled hair.
The table is covered with all kinds of trinkets. Bells, flower circlets, crystals, little animals made of glass. It may have been a charming collection under different circumstances, but unfortunately you don’t have time to focus on something so small.
Besides the vanity, there’s also a desk filled to the brim with papers and books. Bottles of ink line the shelf above it. Great, the weirdo that kidnapped you is a writer. You can definitely use that to escape. Maybe threaten to set some of his manuscripts on fire or give him a bad review. That’ll show him.
You groan and go back over to the bed, flopping onto the soft mattress. Despite your amazing investigative skills, you’d somehow neglected the plate of fresh berries on the bedside table. Just looking at them makes your mouth water.
If you’re going to escape, you have to have some fuel in you, right?
As you reach out to grab one of the fruits, something snaps around your wrist and yanks it away.
“Don’t eat that.”
The roots around your arm squeeze it tightly. After you recover from the shock, you turn to face the source of the voice.
The tree.
The fucking tree.
Or what was a tree five seconds ago, at least. Of course. Why not? Magical bug men, talking trees, sure. Just throw in a dancing bear at this point.
The tree— or man, you’re not sure what to describe it as— is giving you a hard glare. It’s entirely made of wood, save for its flowering hair and a few rogue blossoms. If looks could kill, you have a feeling that they wouldn’t be able to put your corpse back together.
It slowly retracts its branches from your wrist, forming them back into a more hand-like structure.
He inspects you for a moment.
“…His standards get lower by the hour. Goodness, where did he even find you? A dog park?” The— whatever he is, scoffs.
Your cheeks flush with embarrassment. He wasn’t wrong, you did look like a mess, but that doesn’t mean his words don’t hurt.
He plucks a leaf from your hair and grins. “I mean, this is just sad. And I thought the last one was bad… No, you take the cake. Anyways, how long were you planning on staying here? Come up with any daring escape plans yet? Please, do tell.”
Even if you had, telling this thing seemed like a bad idea. He definitely doesn’t have your best interests in mind.
“What?” The man(?) frowns. “Too harsh? Alright, fine. I should have just started with names. Have you given yours to him yet?”
You shake your head.
“Good. Don’t. Anyways, since you won’t have much of a use for it anyways, mine is Oleander. You don’t have to give me yours if you don’t want to. I’d like to keep this interaction as quick as possible. Feel free to ask questions though. Better to hear it than learn from experience in this case.”
Well, you sure had a lot of questions. Why are you here? Where is here? What is he? What snatched you away to begin with?
“Ohh, you’re one of the panicky ones. Alright, well, for starters, you’re in a tree. Or a palace. Whatever you’d like to imagine it as, honestly. I don’t know the exact reason you were brought here, but I have a few guesses. Let’s just say none of them are situations anyone would want to be in.” He keeps up with your rapid-fire, only taking a moment in between questions.
“I’m what’s called a dryad. Essentially, a plant with a consciousness and a body created by magic— You do know what magic is, right? Yes? Alright, that saves some explaining. I don’t really want to get into detail about what a faerie is, but that’s what the other man was. Anyways, I’ll be brief, I don’t want you here, and I’m assuming you don’t want to be here either, right?”
You nod.
“Good. That saves me some trouble. I’m going to help you escape. Now, he’s probably going to be back within the next ten or so minutes. You’re not going to mention me to him, understand? He doesn’t know I exist, and I want to keep it that way.”
After you give another nod, he sighs in relief. You watch as Oleander moves back towards the center of the room, his wood skin slowly morphing, bending, and reshaping until you’re left “alone” again.
Your chest feels lighter. There’s still a chance to escape. While you’re still not entirely sure you can trust your new companion, he’s still a failsafe if you can’t find another way out of here.
Just a few minutes later, the door swings open and a familiar person enters the room.
Person? Was that right?
Ai smiles at you, slit pupils you hadn’t noticed previously practically glistening when he spots you at the far end of the room.
“Oh— Hi! You’re awake now? Is everything alright? You look a little shaken up…” He flutters over to you.
Flutters. Right. Wings.
You can’t help but stare. Whatever you’d met in the woods hardly resembled him now. The fae in front of you dawned a long, fairly intricate cloak. His skin— or fur, it’s honestly hard to tell, is a soft pink. He’s not unpleasant looking in any sense, just… Unusual. If it weren’t for the sharp teeth, he’d almost look approachable.
He’s acting like he’s actually concerned about you. Like he didn’t just take you to an entire new dimension. Like there’s any other reason that you’d be upset. You just continue to stare, unable to create a response with the knot in your throat.
Ai sets a hand on your shoulder reassuringly. “Upset? That’s okay. I know it’s a lot for you to take in. I hope you don’t feel like I was trying to deceive you before in the woods… I just thought you seemed interesting! I wanted to get to know you a bit before… Well, before all of this. I didn’t mean to rush you.” You’re hardly paying attention to what he’s saying. He kidnapped you. Of course you’re upset!
“You probably feel scared, don’t you? I… I want to say that I won’t hurt you. Those aren’t my intentions with you. Why don’t we get to know each other a bit better? I want to understand you, and I want you to be able to understand me, too. I know this isn’t the best first impression… But I really didn’t want to have to mess with your memories again. I want to do it right this time.”
This is insane. You can’t read him. What does he want from you? He said he doesn’t want to hurt you, but none of his actions so far have even slightly supported that. He abducted you. He chased you through the fucking woods. What other reason could he possibly have for keeping you here?
“Go ahead, ask me anything.”

Harker headcanons 👹👹
And my own words come back to haunt me once again.
But here you go!
Yaelokre • Harker Headcannons
I believe The Croon and The Bellringer would be the best at caring for children (in that the Croon would theoretically be good at it but wouldn't really care enough about anyone who wasn't Perrine).
The Bellringer would be very caring and loving and gentle but would 100% pull a Rose from Steven Universe and let a baby climb a ferris wheel "because they wanted to".
The Croon, on the other hand, is very apathetic and abrasive, but believe it or not, a good listener. They would definitely sit and listen to a child's ramblings with rapt attention.
They would also probably be the only Harker to ya know, know well enough to not let a child die. (In my mind the Harkers fall into the foolish god trope where they know NOTHING of mortality and humans and it's very funny).
TLDR: Need a babysitter? Don't call the Harkers. Your child is NOT surviving.
Call the Lark, they'd probably also let your baby climb a ferris wheel but they have the plot armor to get away with it.
The Harkers will just randomly show up at the Lark's home and just hang around for the day, and I mean that quite literally. They'll just show up and follow around their specific ward for a while.
(In all honesty, they love them so much they have to refrain from showing up too often, as they are convinced being around too much will cause the Lark to grow reliant and branch off from one another and disrupt The Order.)
Cole and Clém are always very excited when Story and Yarrow show up. They'll play games with them whilst showing them cool things they've found and relaying stories of their recent adventures.
Perrine views The Croons arrival as some sort of doomsday warning and will start freaking out internally. (cue Grunkle Stan stocking up on canned food and telling everyone to bury their gold).
Most of the time The Croon will visit its really just to see what Perrine's up to, but it's not really Perrine's fault for being scared either. As instead of just showing up in their house one morning to say hello like Story and Yarrow, Perrine will just wake up one morning and look out their window to find The Croon just staring at them from across a field, or poking their head out from in-between trees.
Bro is NOT here for social interaction. They just wanna see how their little scrumbly is doing.
Everytime Kingsley wakes up to find the fucking Storyteller standing in their kitchen or something they get a little salty.
"Bro, what are you even DOING here?"
(This one is mostly a joke in actuality, Kingsley loves each Harker equally and swears that they are here to bless Kingsley themselves personally every time one visits even if it has NOTHING to do with them)
The only time the Enkindled really comes by is during group efforts when even The Croon is forced to socialize (much to their dismay, the croon doesn't care about any of these other mistakes they call children), that or if Kingsley was in some kind of distress or impending danger.
Kindle is the most protective over their ward (in terms of honor anyway)
"You CANNOT speak of my ward like that!"
"When's the last time you've even SEEN THEM?!"
The Croon isn't as juvenilely defensive of Perrine in conversation but will kill every other organism in the galaxy and lay them at Perrine's feet without even being prompted.
Kindle and The Croon believe they are each the most normal of the Harkers respectively. Cause how could it possibly be The Storyteller or The Bellringer? Those disgusting lovebirds going on picnic dates in fields of flowers and collecting little rocks and trinkets to give to the children. It's an abomination.
I dont quite know how this would work or why, but I believe the Harkers have some kind of spiritual connection with each of their respective Larks. They can sense when they're in danger or scared or in pain, or even when they're overwhelmingly happy.
I imagine any time any of them feel some type of emotion from their lark, all they want to do is go to them. But, oh no, the nonexistent Order.
"They'll work it out themselves and become stronger for it"
*Cue Cole fucking drowning in quicksand or something*
The Croon does not abide by The Order, they are overly attached and won't admit it.
Kindle has the opposite problem.
Croon: Aren't you going to check on your ward?
Kindle: Nah, they're tough, they'll figure it out.
Yarrow: With all due respect we all have an overwhelming sense of dread and death, you should see to that they're alright.
Kindle: Hey, I said they'll be- *gets knocked out and dragged*
As much as The Croon does not care about Kingsley, they hate the idea of the Enkindled not doing their job even more.
I also imagine this as The Harker's just going about their day. Yarrow and Story will be on a nice walk and then all of a sudden Story just fucking collapses to the ground. Yarrow is so confused and only mildy worried meanwhile Cole's having a panic attack and is convinced the world is ending.
Like Clémentine, Yarrow can be quite affectionate.
When they come by, they'll pull Clém into their lap as they talk to them and kiss the top of their head.
This would be very sweet, if only Story hadn't seen and decided they wanted to do the same.
Story is just a silly little guy who loves all these silly little children, and is oblivious to their silly little acts, not quite having the desired effect.
To put it simply... an act once perceived as so sweet is actually rather jarring coming from the silly little hay man.
Story: *picks each child up whilst squeezing them aggressively and placing kisses on the crowns of their heads.*
Cole: *bewildered and dazed*
Kingsley: *now has hay stuck in their hair*
Perrine: ....thanks..
Bonus from the last headcannons post: The Storyteller with children:

“C’mon Xiaojun, spit it out already!!”
You teased at your loving best friend, shoving him playfully with a single finger as you watched him struggle to speak lucid sentences.
The two of you were in your favorite and most “private” hang out spot—in the trees on the outskirts of your shared village. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the community, but close enough for comfort. Though you tried your best not to drift into the terminology of “safety”, “danger”, or “warnings.”
It was a sure way to initiate ill omens.
Both of your parents were aware of your shared infinity for exploring; venturing past the municipality limits. But as long as the two of you shrunk to “the size of a quail” outside of the village, they allowed you to bask in the wonders of blaring curiosity, to your heart’s content. Your species could never truly bring your guard down…
“Sorry…I just can’t form my words today.” He scratched the back of his head as he peered down at his lap, rustling the Crane's-bill flower crown perched atop his mauve hair in the process.
“Since when do you ever really form your words?”
This time you gave a subtle laugh to pair with your smile, hoping to ease his obvious discombobulation.
“You’re right. I don’t.”
His eyes met yours, his wings even twitching, which always signified when your kind was flustered.
He continued again, pulling at his own thumb as he drifted his eyes up to the newly blossomed tree leaves; an obvious attempt to avoid eye contact.
You could try to deny it for as long as you lived, but there was something within you that adored him more than he probably ever knew.
It was his tenderness, his soothing voice, his patience, whether it was those nights you stormed out of your house in search of him, as a form of solace from the constant nightmares of your genocide, or the days that you wanted to rant about your parent’s overprotectiveness (though they’ve eased up in recent years).
Anything you needed, he was there. And you always tried your best to do the same, despite having the feeling that he bottled up some of his troubles to keep from feeling like a burden himself.
“Well…I w-wanted to tell you, that I really appreciate you.”
He gave up on his own finger trap, to tug at the bottom of his white flounce shirt, finally meeting your eyes again with another twitch of his translucent wings.
“I appreciate you too Xiaojun, always.”
You leaned forward, so light that you barely caused the branch underneath you to stir. He froze upon witnessing your close contact, only his brown irises lowering to watch as you took both of his hands into your own.
“Is everything okay?”
You didn’t mean for your voice to come out in a whisper, but his stuttering had become more frequent, and this only made your thoughts whirl just as loudly as his.
If only you knew that he was on his way to confess his true feelings to you, if only he could get his mouth to work as fast as his brain, maybe then he could finally pull the weight off his shoulders.
But you made all of this difficult without even trying. His love for everything that was you, was infinite.
Even your constant teasing.
And the glimmer in your eyes was no match for his composure, let alone the way you held his hands.
You scanned his face in search of an answer, that definitely took too long for him to spill.
“Yeah don’t worry, everything's fine.”
You tilted your head in confusion, wondering where this could possibly be going, knowing he was aware of your ever-so-apparent “what’s the deal” persona.
He cleared his throat, and geared himself up for the revelation of a lifetime,
“I’ve been m-meaning to tell you that I really like you…that I’ve always dreamed of what it would be like to have this moment with you.”
You felt your wings twitch, more noticeable than his own. And the warmth that flooded your entire body could’ve lit the entire forest in a swarming blaze.
“W-would it be crazy if I asked you to be mine—”
His lips seemed to come at a rest in slow motion, eyelashes fluttering in stark contrast as he heard your breath hitch in your throat.
Not even the sun’s rays that flashed through the white pine tree could’ve taken you out of your shock.
You used what seconds you had left, to replay his confession in your head,
“…I’ve always dreamed of what it would be like to have this moment with you”
Xiaojun, your best friend since childhood, had always dreamed of this?
But the thoughts of responding were ripped away, as blood-curdling screams roared from the direction of your home. They weren’t light hearted nor playful by any means, and with the ability to hear great distances, the agony that bestowed upon your ears caused you both to wince in fear.
Xiaojun turned his head to look through the leaves, skin turning pale upon hearing further destruction.
Most of the branches obscured your vision, but it didn’t take much longer for the despair to continue.
“They found us!”
That voice, sounded like Karina.
And her frenzied words gave the answer—after two years of hiding, the hunters were back.
You felt your heart drop to your stomach, the ability to breathe becoming a distant memory.
You squeezed Xiaojun’s hand as you crawled through the thick pine, your best friend eventually grabbing your waist to stop you from venturing out too far.
“Stay back!” His hushed tone was never this turbulent, bringing all the more truth to the chaos brewing just a mile away.
“We have to go help!”
“It’s too dangerous, I can’t risk you getting hurt!”
Your adrenaline was too much for Xiaojun, as you managed to fight through his tight embrace or rather his hold on your longing to see your family and friends for what could be the last time.
“Let me go! We can’t just sit here and do nothing!”
You attempted to gear your wings for flight as you broke through his hold, hands raking through the leaves to get a clear view through the sea of green.
As you hovered past the pine tree, a familiar being appeared to be flying this way, the telltale sign being the blush colored wings that matched the embroidered dress swaying through the win at high speeds.
It was Giselle. And upon getting a closer distance, you saw the blood spatter that painted her arms in fresh crimson.
She was her natural size, like what your kind all chose to be while in the comfort of your home, and the only guess as to why she didn’t choose to shrink was the amount of energy it took to do so. She seemed to grip at her side as the blood continued to stain her silk dress, not once looking up at which direction to fly. Her Dahlia flower crown was nowhere to be found, something that she cherished more than anything in the world.
You had to help her, get her to safety within the trees, whatever you could to secure a better fate. But the constant screams kept you too terrified to react, and being out in the open like this was indeed risky.
Before you could muster the strength to call her name, Xiaojun was behind you, the vibration of his wings filling your senses. He leaped at you once again, this time pulling you back towards the trees with labored breaths.
He couldn’t just do this to you…prevent you from saving a life, from saving not only your friend, but his friend too.
You managed a measly call of her name, knowing her advanced hearing would be enough. And successfully, she glanced up for the first time since her escape, to watch as you motioned for her to join together in the same tree.
Her face, lit up with hope, was the last sanguine expression to ever grace her face, as the all too familiar sound of a crossbow arrow being loosed from its quarrel sped towards her injured frame.
Your scream, one just as gut-wrenching as those that continued from your home, was muffled against Xiaojun’s palm as he pulled you back within the tree. You were forced away from any further intervention, forced away from burying your guilt.
Giselle flung forward from the sheer impact of the arrow as it shot through her heart, her umber strands flying through the air in the same intensity; entire body falling face forward onto the red speckled bermuda grass.
You couldn’t look away, not while you witnessed her final moments—eyes drifting up to meet yours within her last breath, wings falling lifeless against her spine, and a faint smile from knowing you would be the last person she would ever see, instead of the hunters that were walking towards her.
Your entire body shook against Xiaojun, trembling in fear that her killers would surely discover the two of you here.
“Fuck! Hendery I had her!”
An unfamiliar voice, but one you would never forget, roared through the clearing that led to your dead friend.
You never felt so much anger from a person before, someone that you could only imagine was seething at the teeth.
Xiaojun finally took his hands away from your mouth, allowing you to inhale as much as you could before they got too close. But he still kept his arms wrapped around you, fighting through his own sobs that hit against the back of your neck.
“No Jeno! I’m not letting you fuck this up anymore! Remember what Johnny said?”
Yet another unfamiliar voice, but you were able to put the faces with the names right as the two humans approached just meters away, barely appearing disheveled despite the chaos they just unleashed. Thankfully their lack of enhanced senses worked in your favor, as you and Xiaojun remained undetected during their inspection of the area.
The one holding the crossbow was Hendery. And the one to speak first with the serrated knife was Jeno.
These had to have been the hunters your family warned about. For the two years since relocating to this new area, all of the last surviving elders made it their mission to describe these two, for if the day came that they scoured the land again, you would instantly know it was them.
They were just as menacing as your parents described, especially the blonde, Jeno.
Whether or not it was on purpose to instill fear within all of your kind, you were always taught to never underestimate him or his brother.
The two of them could’ve passed as supernatural beings themselves—flawless skin, chiseled features, intimidating height, and the perfect build…you could’ve spent your time describing their otherworldly looks, but their tyranny overshadowed everything else in your mind.
Your breathing finally began to steady as you stared them down like hawks within the evergreen tree, watching with glossy eyes as they stood over Giselle.
Maybe it was the tactical black clothes they wore, or the shared onyx in their eyes. Either observation caused a shiver to run down your spine; they screamed carnage.
You and Xiaojun both jumped as Jeno sheathed the knife in his left hand into his thigh holster, the ear-grating sound bringing you back down to the harsh reality of your near-death experience.
“The others should be on their way any minute. Let’s go.”
Hendery spoke again and pointed downward with his crossbow at Giselle’s lifeless body, signaling for Jeno to carry her now.
The blonde obeyed, but not without a furrowed brow as he bent down to gather the fresh corpse.
You were sure his disgruntled expression was due to his brunette counterpart taking away his kill, and a part of you knew that his method of disposal would have been way more barbaric than Hendery’s.
You felt sick to your stomach to admit that maybe Giselle didn’t suffer too much of an agonizing death, as an arrow to the heart was the quickest way to an end.
Jeno loves the thrill of a chase. Once he has his sights on you, his frenzy doesn’t stop…
The warning that your own mother gave you stuck ever since she first told you. And it all made sense now: Giselle was part of the hunt.
The last you would ever see of her, was a delicate, lifeless body slumped over Jeno’s shoulders as the two brothers walked back the way they came.
The two of you could’ve stayed hidden in the trees forever, passing the time by staring at the way the grass moved in the wind. Especially now that you had to face the aftermath of being found after such little time.
Xiaojun’s arms slowly unwrapped around your body, falling onto the branch in defeat.
You couldn’t help but fight back more tears as you looked back at him, eventually failing as you saw how red his own eyes were.
“What did they mean by “be here any minute?”
You asked in a trembling tone, voice slightly breaking from the sobs that overtook your chords.
“I fear they’ll stay close by for a while, but maybe it’s a chance we’ll have to take to see what’s going on.”
His cool breath touched your lips as he spoke, and you could only give a nod. No amount of talking could take away the pain you felt.
The two of you cautiously exited the trees, remaining in your shrunken size to stay undetected.
You gave one last look at the grass below you, soaking in Giselle’s blood that splattered onto the now-soiled greenery.
Xiaojun led the way, choosing to duck behind the trees along the clearing, as you did the same.
The area seemed too quiet now…
The wisp of arrows no longer filled the air, and the crashing of what sounded like housing structures were no longer drowned out by the screams of your family and friends.
Considering the two of you purposefully ventured out past the village limits, it seemed like hours before you reached the entrance to your once-forever home.
The destruction seemed picture-perfect to what your elders had experienced in the past.
Xiaojun reached behind to interlock your fingers with his as you both approached the gates. You could only let your wings carry you now, barely reacting to his physicality…the numbness had become too overbearing.
No sign of life could be caught within your sights, only smoke and dwindling flames littered the landscape.
Houses were barely standing, with sunken ceilings and crumbling timber.
Could everyone truly be dead? Even your parents?
You tried your best to peek over Xiaojun’s shoulder, trying as best as you both could to find your respective homes. And considering how small the two of you were now, the billows proved to be difficult terrain. You both covered your faces in defense of the embers, fending off the irritation to your eyes.
Xiaojun was the first to look towards what was left of your home, eventually dragging you along despite your best efforts to protect your eyes.
Upon stopping and hovering in front of your disheveled porch, it was obvious your parents were gone; though you didn’t want to think about the manner in which they were gone.
You couldn’t even bring yourself to rummage through the chunks of burnt siding, as every piece was scorching hot to the touch.
“Why even fucking bother?”
Your anger began to overshadow your grief, and despite the fumes emanating off the burnt mahogany, you kicked at what remained of the entryway.
Images of your parents flashed through your brain; undoubtedly giving it their all to fight back, not even caring that they would ultimately fail against them.
They never thought about the aftermath of their bravery…going out in glory seemed like the best way to go.
Xiaojun could only choke back tears as he hovered beside you, knowing that no amount of condolences would render you healed. He wasn’t a ghost to this kind of pain either.
You were there for him when his parents found their end at the hands of the hunters years prior.
And he knew he had to do the same for you.
“I’m sorry…” Xiaojun sniffled with a squeeze of your hand. You met his bloodshot eyes, blinking away yet another tear.
Your focus soon shifted past your best friend, as your eyes drifted over to a familiar piece of pink flower nestled under a heap of singed plywood.
Xiaojun noticed, and followed closely behind as you flew over to your discovery.
Somehow saved from the flames, was Giselle’s flower crown.
You steadied the speed at which your wings fluttered to keep the smoke at bay, and in one fell swoop of your hand, you held onto the only remnant of your dear friend.
Maybe this is why your kind wore these, not only as a form of self expression, but for moments like this. So anyone gone, would never be forgotten.
“We should go…”
You were sure it pained him as much as it did you to not give a valid response to his shared grief, but staying here out in the open was suicide. You clutched onto the Dahlia flower crown as the two of you flew south, with no real destination in mind.
Maybe a change of scenery or something less-desolate would clear your head.
—
Jeno tried his hardest not to tear a muscle in his jaw as he clenched down with every exhale.
He was left fuming ever since the end of their hunt.
He knew why Hendery intervened, and the thought of someone trying to control his methods disgusted him.
It didn’t even matter if that certain someone was his own brother.
No one got in the way of his kill.
Although he wanted to body slam Hendery into the ground, all thoughts of getting his vengeance were cut short as Yuta and Sungchan were arriving to help load the bodies. The brothers were waiting just outside the village in a clearing, with high hopes that more fairies would cross paths with them in the process.
Jeno passed the time by tossing his knife up and down in the air, purposefully avoiding conversation with his brother to bring more tension into the air. It worked somehow, with Hendery only kicking a few pebbles along the dirt instead of discussing how uneventful their slaughter was.
Yuta and Sungchan eventually drove up in the shared sport utility vehicle courtesy of Johnny, that had definitely seen better days: waves of mud caked along the fender from transporting bodies to buyers all over the county, along with a few specks of dried blood on the front tire rims from a raccoon Hendery hit the other day.
The fellow hunters skidded along the rough terrain with the help of four wheel drive, successfully parking in front of the pile where only four fairies lay stacked on top of each other.
The sun was beginning to set along the distant horizon, seeming faster as the entire land lay nestled on a hill. That still didn’t stop the golden hour from illuminating the-now blackened blood painted along their lifeless bodies, even decorating a few of their ruined flower crowns like black ink.
Yuta was the first to exit the driver's seat, putting out his cigarette in the portable ashtray just beneath the car stereo. Sungchan followed suit, but not without towering over his comrade as they came to a stop to view the brother’s labor.
“I feel like there should be way more than this…”
Yuta’s crimson locks swayed in the breeze as he broke the silence, eyes darting from the bodies, then to the blonde, then to the brunette.
He was sure such a statement would tick Jeno off, who’s excess pride always managed to bring home the most kills.
“There’s definitely more out there. I saw a handful scatter south.” Hendery tilted his head in the direction as he kicked the final pebble over towards the pile of bodies.
“Yeah well if you didn’t get in the way half the time, I would’ve gotten them.”
Jeno spat as he sheathed the bowie knife back into his thigh holster. His dissatisfied expression only grew as Hendery scoffed in response.
“What, you have nothing to say?” Jeno finally looked over to him, who’s tongue-in-cheek appearance was almost the final straw to his mania.
“Can we just load these up already?”
Sungchan, the timid pacifist, was the only one to stick to the task at hand, bending down to gather one of the bloodied corpses.
Yuta walked over to open the trunk as he texted Johnny with an update.
They each gathered one with ease, and despite being in their full size at death, all four managed to fit with a few pronounced shoves.
“Seems you went easy on them this time Jen…” Yuta took one final glance at the trunk, making sure Jeno heard his side comment before closing it. Based on the way Jeno slammed the rear passenger door, he succeeded.
Yuta couldn’t help but light yet another cigarette as he put the car in reverse, even offering one to Jeno and Hendery who both declined with a shake of their head.
It would take at least forty minutes before they reached headquarters, and anything to diffuse the obvious tension was worth a try.
—
You subconsciously thanked whatever God that your kind didn’t need food and water as often as the humans who co-inhabited this earth.
If you did, the hunger and dehydration would’ve befallen you a long time ago.
Neither you nor Xiaojun had eaten anything since the attack.
It was now dark, and based on the abundance of nocturnal animals scouring about, it had to be late.
And unfortunately, the smell of petrichor began to fill your noses.
Rain was definitely not your best friend while in this size or without proper shelter.
“Let’s stop here before it starts pouring.” Xiaojun guided you over to yet another tree, choosing to fly high up along the weeping willow for extra protection.
He had become so steadfast in a small amount of time, and you were sure it was because of his familiarity with this type of tragedy.
At least he was holding himself together better than you were.
Each time you glanced down at Giselle’s crown, you couldn’t help but tear up. And the thought of potentially finding more along your journey scared you.
Just as you nestled yourselves within the leaves, the rain began to pour and soon came the thunder.
Regardless of mother nature’s wrath, the comforting sound of raindrops hitting every leaf soothed away your stressors, as it did for Xiaojun. And not soon after, you found yourself laying back into his body for added warmth.
He welcomed your embrace, and let his head rest on top of yours as the two of you tried to drift off to sleep.
Giselle’s crown never let you, perched just above as some sort of guardian that you hoped would watch over you for a lifetime.
“I love you.”
Xiaojun’s whisper stirred you from your near distant slumber, and as you rose your head up, you found your lips just millimeters away from his own.
“I love you too…”

“Sorry to cut the training short but I need everyone in my office now.”
Johnny’s stone cold appearance into the gymnasium-sized training room caused everyone to freeze in place. Even YangYang, the newest recruit, had a hint of worry in his eye from what his boss could possibly want at this time of day.
The new offensive tactic he was learning from Hendery felt too liberating to be interrupted.
Nonetheless, all five hunters dropped their practice weapons, and began following through the halls of their headquarters. Jeno walked close behind, exuding annoyance with every step, followed by Hendery, Yuta, Sungchan, and YangYang, who all seemed less vexed.
“Fresh meat” as Yuta liked to call the newest recruit, found the Brutalist architecture of the entire headquarters difficult to get used to. Nothing felt welcoming, but what could he expect from a group of ruthless hunters who’s only form of entertainment were killing or training?
YangYang hoped that maybe he was jumping to conclusions, and that maybe they actually engaged in more leisure activities.
Eventually they made it to Johnny’s office. YangYang mentally recalled the first time he ever saw it, back when he was interviewed.
Not much self-expression, or color for that matter; only strange and usual murals of taxidermied animals, and a few plaques of outstanding achievements in “Guerilla Warfare.”
The newest hunter felt awkward in the sea of black, not knowing if he seemed “lazy” for wanting to sit in one of the two chairs positioned in front of the carbon grey desk. Though, his pondering was short lived as Hendery and Yuta swiftly shoved between him to claim the only two seats.
Everyone except Jeno stayed in direct view of their boss, instead opting to lean against the wall with a few kicks to the fine carpet below. YangYang could already tell from his fifth day here that his blonde-haired comrade was the hothead of the group, intimidatingly so.
“I called this meeting to discuss our sales…they’re unacceptable.”
If only YangYang had known that this wasn’t the usual topic of a meeting, nor was it a common issue, though he did notice that everyone had their undivided attention, especially considering Johnny’s succinct tone.
Yet there was a hint of relief in the hunter’s exhale, as there was no way he attributed to whatever poor sales his boss was referring to, when he’s only been here for less than a week.
“I wanted to wait and see if maybe there was a mistake in my counts before pulling you all out of training, but it’s quite obvious that we’re down 20%.”
Based on the way Sungchan and Hendery dropped their heads, the news was transparently bad. And despite the amount of bodies in the room, the atmosphere grew cold in the span of a heartbeat.
“I don’t understand, we’ve killed thousands. How is that bringing us down?”
Yuta was the first to speak after what seemed like minutes; eventually sparing the room of awkward silence. He leaned forward in his seat with intrigue, ultimately showing concern that was shared across everyone’s faces.
“Precisely. It’s not the numbers, it’s the method.”
Johnny leaned far back in his chair with a cross of his hands over his abdomen—typical posture for someone trying to keep their composure.
Was there confusion? Definitely. So much so that Hendery finally raised his head with a dumbfounded expression which might’ve garnered a slap from his displeased boss, though the thickness of his chestnut bangs spared him of the reprimand.
“With each receipt that I get, there’s been a pattern...some sort of complaint.”
Johnny paused to grab the binder in the corner of his desk that housed all of the “receipts”, eventually flipping it open to show the large stack that could barely stay organized due to the lightweight paper.
“Specimen AG — parts not salvageable due to maiming of thoracic cage and surrounding viscera…
Specimen BH — parts not salvageable due to debasement of intestines, including prolapse…”
The list seemed to go on and on—fifty pages worth to be exact, and it wasn’t until Johnny read the sixth one that the group of hunters finally caught on to the stress brewing within his chords.
“There’s a reason we don’t use bombs or any explosives, but based on the condition of these bodies, doesn’t fucking matter if we do!”
Johnny slammed the binder shut; seeming to resort back to his previous posture with equanimity.
His voice barely above a shout, surely to get louder if no one spoke up soon.
“But there’s one thing I won’t do, and that’s babysit. I have way too many important things to take care of while you guys are out there. So you all need to tell me what’s going on.”
“I might have a clue…”
YangYang’s peripherals shifted to Hendery, who was the second to speak with a brief raise of his fore and middle finger.
“I don’t think it helps that there’s someone in this room that likes to go overboard with their methods.”
YangYang was the only one to scan the room for the person in question, and eventually his suspicion bloomed upon setting his sights on Jeno.
He would never forget his first day hunting, nor would he forget the lingering smirk that painted Jeno’s face with every kill.
Each fairy met their end in the most gruesome way possible, and somehow even his own brother had less sadistic methods to his madness.
Limbs torn, torso’s gutted, throats ripped…
That was one way for Jeno to distinguish himself from the more quick and painless deaths of his counterparts.
Easily…
“You piece of shit…”
Jeno’s bark was just as hefty at his bite, and snapped YangYang out of his recollection.
Thankfully his laconic response was towards Hendery.
“I should’ve known.”
Johnny produced a heavy sigh as he leaned forward to put his head in his hands.
“Jeno you’re one of the best hunters i’ve ever known, you and your brother both. But you can’t do this. I’ve had countless buyers not only documenting but telling me that the parts are too mutilated…”
Johnny’s tone surprisingly stayed neutral, but the disappointment in his face didn’t falter.
“Why criticize me for doing what we are trained to do?”
Though Jeno remained still against the wall, it was evident his fists were clenched inside the pockets of his combat pants to resist the urge to punish his brother for “snitching.”
“They can’t possibly buy that junk Jeno!”
“Okay, next time I’ll just sit out and let everyone do the work then.”
Jeno’s solution to the problem was only a smart-ass response, one that tensed the room more than it already was.
“Everyone seems to understand but you…”

[0900]
Two hours of laying in bed with his eyes open when he could’ve been doing something more productive ate away at Jeno’s soul.
Perhaps the best way to take his mind off the disappointment from yesterday’s hunt would be to train, even better if he could do it alone.
Considering it was still early, he was sure that could be arranged.
He couldn’t stand to hear the soft “tick” of the analog clock any longer, eventually rising up and navigating across the dimly lit bedroom; being especially mindful of YangYang’s crutches that lay in between their separate beds.
Just a few weeks ago he sprained his ankle while training with Yuta, and never heard the end of it from the red-haired bully. The teasing was warranted, as his clumsiness made him miss out on the second hunt of his career.
Before YangYang was recruited, Jeno was lucky enough to have a room by himself, but for the past two years he’s had to share. And despite his constant gripes with Johnny over that decision, there had been no changes in his room and board.
Thankfully, YangYang wasn’t as much of a headache as he thought he would be.
Just as Jeno reached for the doorknob, he was interrupted from YangYang’s awakening.
“How was yesterday?”
His groggy morning voice was a far-cry from his more upbeat tone that tended to blossom throughout the day.
“You didn’t miss much.”
Jeno refrained from turning his head to address YangYang’s curiosity, and as a result, missed the frown that littered his face.
“Guess that makes me feel a bit better about being a klutz then.”
YangYang had grown accustomed to Jeno’s uninterested personality and expected nothing in return: no reassurance nor words of encouragement, but it still left him feeling cold as Jeno exited the bedroom with a harsh slam of the door.
—
After freshening up in the bathroom, Jeno eventually walked through the maze of minimally designed hallways, with the constant reminder of how the entire building matched his current mood—arid, dull, and grey.
The gymnasium was just off in the distance and past Johnny’s office, which he suspected to be empty.
But to Jeno’s surprise, it was occupied by not only his boss, but an unfamiliar person.
Their voices still seemed hushed to a low volume as Jeno decided to pause just past the partially open door. The brief glance Jeno gave in between wielded a weak observation of the boy, but just enough to know that there was no way he could survive here—he looked barely old enough to even drive.
“Even though you still have yet to gain experience in the realm of hunting, I think you’ll be a great new addition to the team Jisung. We have plenty of approachable people here who would be more than happy to assist you on your learning curve.”
“Such a relief to hear that.”
The voice matched the ingenuous appearance of the boy, and somehow Jeno already had an irked nerve creep under his skin from the thought of gaining a new inexperienced “co-worker.”
“Due to tight restrictions on sales and making sure everyone gets equal pay, you’ll probably be the last hire, but I'll make sure we get you trained to expectations in no time.”
Last hire?
Jeno immediately fell into the depths of suspicion.
There was only one possible meaning in Jeno’s eyes: and the answer was replacement.
The mere thought of deception plagued the mind of the seasoned hunter, and to such a degree that he could’ve easily torn down the door and stormed in to give both of them hell.
If anyone saw Jeno now, they would see a raged monster—veins pulsed along his arms and down to his fists where he aimed to punch the wall nearest to him. The impact from his knuckle to the grey wall proved to be successful, and no amount of sting could’ve prevented him from giving another punch.
Of course they heard it. And he didn’t want to stick around to see their faces when they came out to check. The self- control Jeno possessed, would ultimately spare the two of his wrath.
The thought of training no longer sounded appealing; only real damage…real blood, could diffuse his anger.
And no one could stop him from killing the way he wanted to.
Not even his own brother, that just so happened to unveil himself from his shared room with Yuta.
Hendery was just beginning to start his day, having already decided to sharpen his crossbow arrows, as training with them weakened the aluminum overtime.
He heard the loud “thud” just as he opened his bedroom door, and to his surprise, Jeno was storming off in the direction of the courtyard.
Something had to have bothered him, especially to the point that a large dent was made into the plastered wall on the other side of Johnny’s office.
Did he have an impromptu meeting?
As Hendery began to jog towards his impetuous brother, he heard the creak of the office door, but couldn’t bother to look back at who appeared from inside.
“Jeno! What’s going on?”
His call yielded no response, and it seemed like miles before he got in arms reach of him.
Just like Hendery predicted, Jeno made it to the frosted glass doors of the courtyard, violently pushing them open to the point of almost cracking the inorganic material.
Hendery managed to lunge forward, ignoring the voices of Sungchan and Yuta in the distance as he cupped the back of Jeno’s shoulder.
“What the fuck’s going on?! Stop!”
Without conscious thought, Hendery’s reflexes erupted from the center of his body, branching out towards his limbs to forge protection from the sudden backhand Jeno tried to give with his left hand. Hendery adjusted his footing to keep from falling backwards, but it seemed that he had to be one step ahead to handle Jeno’s blind rage.
Sungchan and Yuta halted side-by-side, just in time to see Jeno practically attacking his own brother, with the first strike barely missing, though another seemed to be winding up from his right hand.
“What could you possibly do, huh? I’m getting fucking replaced!”
Sungchan was the first to look at Yuta with confusion as they heard Jeno’s explosive response. Even from their position at the doors, they could see every contour of Jeno’s muscles contract along his arms, with veins bulging against both sides of his temple as he seemed to hold back a snarl.
Regardless, the two hunters felt relieved to know they weren’t the ones trying to console an absolute maniac.
They knew better.
“What the hell?”
Within minutes of the brawl, a flurry of bodies appeared at the door. Johnny rushed down the steps after uttering his shock, followed by Jisung—and in the process of his first appearance, earned a scoff from Yuta as he brushed past. YangYang was the last to reach the ensemble, teeming with frustration at his inability to get accustomed to his crutches.
If any outsider saw the scene before them, they would question if there was any proper authority amongst a group of murderous men.
“Jeno! You have to stop!”
No amount of pleas from Johnny could tear the two brothers apart. And whether or not it was to make a good first impression, Jisung lunged into action to separate them both as best as he could.
With the assistance of Johnny, who was undoubtedly stronger than the three combined, the heavy strikes to each other's bodies eventually ceased…followed by bruised cheeks, puffed lips, and labored breaths that flooded the hostile climate.
Clearly, Jisung made the mistake of keeping his hands glued to Jeno’s shoulders as he rose from the dark granite rocks, shoving away the unwarranted contact.
“After all these years of me outperforming everyone you’ve ever known, you’re going to throw me away?”
He spat in Johnny’s face, even bucking towards him without shame before turning his attention back to Jisung. It was clear that Jeno wasn’t done, and Hendery’s intuition seemed to outshine everyone as he noticed his brother gearing up for another strike. Maybe it was the fact they were both bound by blood, as the two were always one step ahead of each other’s intentions.
Despite the pain burning at his body, Hendery put himself in between Jeno and Jisung, yet again taking another punch, this time for someone he hadn’t even propely met.
He took the brute force of Jeno’s knuckles, with plenty of newtons to make him stumble back.
Jisung barely had time to flinch, but the aftershock left him feeling indebted towards Hendery.
“I don’t want to lose any of you! If you came to me in private, I would’ve explained, but instead you go absolutely insane thinking he was your replacement?!”
For the first time, Jeno let his fists unclench with a harsh grimace. If it was to hide his disgrace or combat the raging headache, no one would ever know.
Johnny stepped closer to Jeno, seeking out a valid response, but he was met with an ungracious exit.
Hendery held onto his aching cheek as he watched Jeno walk away, presumably to never come back.
His final act of longing to reach for his brother was interrupted as Johnny spoke,
“Just let him go…”
The entire courtyard turned to silence as Jeno pushed past his two comrades at the door, eventually disappearing in the adjacent hallway.
Jisung was surprised to find that even after all of the chaos, Johnny remained calm. How?

“Xiaojun…Xiaojun wake up! Do you hear that?”
Off into the distance and below the same tree you both had been sleeping in for the past night, you heard the sound of flapping wings.
Through the breeze, you couldn’t discern if they were from your kind or an animal, but you desperately needed a second set of ears to assist with your discovery.
After rubbing your companion’s arm, he finally awoke, albeit at a snail’s pace. The flapping stopped just as he stretched his upper body, and it didn’t take a genius to realize your disappointment.
But there again, you heard the high frequency sound of those same wings down below.
This time Xiaojun heard it, and even his eyes grew an astonishing amount,
“I hear multiple sets of wings…do you?”
Maybe his advanced hearing fared better than yours considering your lack of proper rest, but after concentrating enough with closed eyes, you heard it too.
“We should go check.”
You wondered if Xiaojun felt like risking his life yet again, but if this was anything like you hoped, then there was a better chance of survival with more than just two to a team.
He agreed with a subtle nod, and stayed close behind as you both crept towards the edge of the weeping willow.
You paused before going any further, deciding to reach back and grab Giselle’s crown as it was practically your security blanket.
Once you reached a safe distance, you scanned the twilight sky for any signs of aerial life. But that observation was soon forgotten as four pairs of living bodies were flying across the fescue grass.
Myrtle, Canna, Red Flax, and Black Pansy rested atop each of their heads and you immediately recognized them.
Karina, Jaemin, Renjun, and Winter.
You clutched Giselle’s crown close to your chest as you dove towards them, almost forgetting that Xiaojun was right behind you.
Their hearing proved to be just as fruitful, as they each turned in the direction of your swift flight.
Their faces, lighting up just as bright as the peeking sun over the horizon, gave you all of the strength in the world. They seemed to be alive and most importantly well considering the disaster that befell the community just two days ago.
No words were spoken, just tears of relief as an assembly line of embraces filled the atmosphere.
Due to your excitement, you didn’t notice that they too had flower crowns, with Karina being the one to carry all three.
Chenle, Ten, and NingNing.
You felt a tight squeeze on your heart as you eyed the only evidence of their unforgettable beauty, but to see remnants of their existence was more than enough closure.
Winter was the first to speak as you hugged her last,
“I can’t believe you both are here! I’ve been crying ever since we made it out.”
She kept one hand on your shoulder as she used the other to rid the tear trailing past her chin.
The abundance of emotions even managed to make Jaemin tear up, as he was someone who never cried.
Karina seemed to keep her eyes trained on Giselle’s crown nestled in your hand, and as her lip began to quiver, you immediately rushed over to hug her again.
The two were inseparable—sisters who never missed the opportunity to experience life’s wonders together.
You knew no amount of words would take away the pain, but you hoped that your affection would forge an era of healing.
Based on her steady heartbeat and the collective encircle everyone decided to share, you knew it would happen eventually.
“Have any of you seen my parents?”
You waited until the group hug dispersed before asking, as you needed a solid look at each of their faces for any signs of an answer.
The silence was deafening, but unfortunately more than enough to answer your question.
“I can barely recall what happened. Everything seemed like a blur…”
Renjun’s statement garnered a collective nod. Nonetheless, you simply appreciated their existence as it didn’t seem like there was much left.
—
Jeno had finally found a reason to keep going.
There, in a clearing upon chance, was the source of his thirst.
Had the fight with his brother not happened, he would’ve missed the six fairies huddled in a circle amongst the teff grass.
They seemed delighted in their reunion, albeit shaken up from recent events.
Despite Jeno’s lack of supernatural abilities, he could still sense the wariness looming over their pitiful bodies…he could still feel the magnetic pull that drove him to be their absolute nightmare.
If he was a dog, he would be salivating, shamelessly so.
Ever since storming away from the courtyard, Jeno rushed back inside towards the training room to grab all of his signature weapons, along with any other utilities that would be of good use for his inevitable soul-searching.
Considering Sungchan was quite intimidated by him, he doubted the tall lanky hunter would mind if he took some of his homemade smoke bombs.
Might as well make use of what’s here…
Jeno had a feeling he wouldn’t be able to go back home, especially now that he saw you.
An absolute spectacle, perfect to use as an example of why your race was so weak…so obsolete.
Maybe it was the way you cautiously scanned the clearing ever so often, or the way you tugged at your opposite forearm to calm your nerves.
Nothing stood out more than your doe eyes—even more gratifying if he was the reason they widened in fear.
He clearly missed the opportunity to see that fiery emotion the first time he scoured your home.
Now he couldn’t let the chance slip away.
As he readied the smoke bomb in his left hand, his own eyes shifted into something sinister, like daggers ready to gouge at your delicate figure.
A toss was all it took to unleash chaos, and though the plume of white smoke covered your initial shock, Jeno knew he would see more of you, eventually.
It was like muscle memory how effortlessly his throwing knives flew through the air, hitting three in quick succession, spurts of scarlet shooting from their collarbones, tainting the ground yet again at the hands of a homicidal aficionado.
Their cries of pain were melodic, practically a sextet of symphony that grew louder the closer Jeno got.
Just like he had planned, you were unscathed, attempting to assist one that collapsed from his attack.
There was something different in the way you gathered your arms to lift him, something special in the way you practically ignored the obvious face of danger to make sure he felt your presence.
Jeno wasn’t the only one that noticed—the two that lucked out from the assault called your name, practically begging you to save yourself.
But based on the caresses you gave this frail boy, you would rather die than leave him.
How was it possible that a surge of jealousy brewed within his chest just as quickly as your selflessness?
—
Jaemin and Karina continued to shout your name as they made their way towards the weeping willow trees.
Besides them, you were the last one standing.
Every hit replayed in your mind upon impact.
Renjun, Winter, Xiaojun—with every blink, their bodies flailed from the sheer power of the flying daggers. The wisp of each knife was just too fast for your hearing.
You couldn’t let your world stop, not with Xiaojun gasping for air as the knife protruded from his neck. He needed you, and even if he didn’t survive, you begged him to be the last person you saw.
“I’m r-right here!”
You attempted to wrap your arms around his upper body to drag him away, but each attempt only garnered more of a struggle.
Specks of blood continued to paint his eyelids, with blotches of purple spreading where the knife lay buried.
The only sounds that managed to escape Xiaojun’s quivering lips were labored sobs, and the determination to reassure him began to crumble beneath your feet.
All thoughts of an escape melted away as you heard the sheath of a knife coming out of a holster.
—
Your eyes fluttered open just as fast as your wings, though there seemed to be something restricting the full momentum at which you could generate flight.
The feeling of cold metal gave you chills all throughout your body, and the realization of where you were made you feel even colder.
You were full size, surely because the stress you endured however long ago was too much for your body to endure. And somehow, there was a cage large enough to fit you as you hung from the ceiling like a lantern.
You gave up on trying to keep your wings stimulated as it constantly hit the black steel bars holding you hostage. None of that mattered anymore as you took in the setting before you.
A wooden shack, rusted tools leaning against the walls, and the same dome-shaped cages hanging from the ceiling, with your friends inside.
They each had their own confines, but the only thing separating them from you was the lack of movement and familiar pulses within their chest.
You slammed your eyes shut to focus on any signs of a heartbeat in case your eyes were deceiving you.
Your hearing was substantial enough to catch two—Renjun and Xiaojun.
It only took a second for your eyes to flood with tears as you realized Winter was silent…no sign of life in her once-rosy cheeks, no luster to her auburn strands, no apparent warmth to her skin.
Everything was cold.
And the only lasting memory you would have was her body slumped in the cage—eyes staring blank towards the exit that was so close, yet so far.
Jaemin and Karina were nowhere to be found in the garage-sized space, but you hoped to whatever god that they managed to escape.
If they had, they were the last ones left.
There was no ounce of hope in your survival.
“Renjun! Xiaojun! Wake up…please!”
Your hushed cries were just enough to wake Renjun as he lay cramped in the cage. He was slightly larger than you in stature, so you could only imagine how uncomfortable he felt as his wings failed to even twitch inside the metal bars.
He grimaced before raising his hand to touch the wound on his collarbone. Blood has pooled underneath his Victorian blouse, ruining the once pearl-colored fabric.
The dagger was out, and thankfully his body generated enough clotting to seal off the gash. The same could be said for Xiaojun too.
He shifted once more before scanning the room, eventually settling upon your crying eyes.
“Where are we?”
He choked up the same curiosity your own mind had garnered, though your wishes for a proper answer were slim to none.
“I don’t know…just please try and wake Xiaojun!”
Renjun was closest to him, merely centimeters away.
Just as he slivered his arm through the bars to shake at Xiaojun’s shoulder, he froze upon seeing Winter.
Your eyes whirled over in the same direction, but you regretted every blink spent on viewing her lifeless body; you were sure Renjun felt the same. The pain emanating from his expression told you so.
As he fought through his blurry vision, you focused your attention back on Xiaojun, who miraculously began to shift within the cage.
Despite his brutal awakening, you couldn’t help but marvel at how beautiful he remained through all the chaos.
He winced from the stinging in his collarbone, blaring his ivory teeth that were just as bright as the moon, and just like Renjun, he too was stained all over.
The way his eyes immediately fell upon you would’ve made any flame last for an eternity.
You would give your life for him.
The chance to do it would be soon, crashing down like a comet that would scorch your entire body in a blaze.
A few clicks of what you assumed to be locks chimed throughout the room, and there standing in the oak doorway was the end to your existence.
Jeno.
To no surprise, he stilled in the door frame with heartless eyes, gleaming with the satisfaction of his catch.
He captured four of you on his own and could’ve easily taken two more.
He stood in silence for what felt like fifty pendulum ticks, probably deciding how to execute each of you.
Regardless of the fact that you were his prey, and prey were never meant to stare into the eyes of their predator, you couldn’t look away.
You had gotten a good look at him when his brother killed Giselle, but seeing him in this state made all the more difference to the stories your family told of him.
He stood in similar black attire, with plenty of tactical accessories to compliment his status as a hunter—a knife holster on his left thigh, a belt assembled with the same smoke bombs he used earlier, and a few throwing knives tucked into an ankle holster on his right side.
There was a reason he was the most brutal one of them all.
It didn’t take a lot to kill your kind, but it made his job more enjoyable if every method imaginable could be used.
Your trailing eyes proved to be a mistake, and your upcoming death all the more damning because of how flawless he appeared in front of you.
His looks were even more deadly up close. Your eyes could’ve melted in their sockets at the sight of his sharp jawline, or even his cheekbones that heightened the electricity of his blue eyes.
Maybe dying at the hands of someone so unbearably perfect would make the sequence into the afterlife a little less daunting.
It was just a shame he wouldn’t make it quick.
Finally you closed your eyes, only using your hearing to verify that his footsteps were coming towards your own personal cage.
Your entire body flinched as you heard him unlock it and swing the door back, the gust of air rustling your eyelashes, forcing you to open your eyes wide.
He barely had to maneuver his body to wrap one hand around your entire waist, pulling you out of the cage like you were a feather from an owl.
You were nowhere comparable in size to him—the entire length of your body was easily a difference of a foot or more but your attention to those details were the least of your worries.
The aroma of bergamot and cedarwood filled your nose, stemming from his neck and chest. Each beat of his pulse seemed to push the scent further into your senses, intoxicating enough to distract you from the fact he slammed you into the adjacent wall.
Your entire head recoiled against the weathered hardwood, causing your vision to multiply. It wasn’t until you felt his calloused hand wrap around your throat and lift you meters above the floor, that your sights finally settled.
The cyan in his eyes had shifted to cobalt, though the diameter of color seemed to disperse as his pupils dilated. It was enough to make you wince, but showing fear would only fuel more desire.
“Please don’t…”
You barely heard Xiaojun’s sniffled cries in the background, as the trance Jeno put you in was too much to decipher anything else.
He continued to speak for you, but it didn’t seem to garner any second thoughts in Jeno’s mind.
You wished to be some sort of sacrifice; a guaranteed exit for what was left of your friends. There had to be something you could do to warrant that.
The only other possibility was actually right in front of you, though you shuddered at the thought of breaking such a promise.
You were never one to plead for your life, but that seemed to be the only viable option to please the sadist in front of you.
With one final gulp that seemed to get caught in between his palm and continue down into your stomach, you brought up your hands to wrap around his own.
His snarl only grew more intense as he watched, and there you saw a beast unleashing.
You opened your quivering lips, making a pitiful attempt at appearing even more pathetic than you already were.
“Take me…not them.”
Just as you expected, he forced you forward by your neck, only to slam you back against the wall. It was definitely rougher than before, enough to make your brain feel like it would pop out of your skull.
This time he stepped forward, using his chiseled thigh to separate your twisted legs.
His face was merely millimeters away from your own, and the coolness of his breath hit your lips like a blizzard.
You wondered why he didn’t verbally challenge your need for survival, but the reason was evident once you felt his groin make contact with your torso.
He let his length speak for him.
And with every squirm that you gave, it continued to twitch under the confines of his combat pants.
What you assumed to be the tip poked right underneath your breasts, and with that came the realization of how minuscule your kind truly was in comparison to his.
Your eyes attempted to follow his other hand as he reached for his prized bowie knife attached to his left thigh. The brief yet ominous sound of it being unsheathed caused Xiaojun and Renjun to rustle in their cages.
From where you were positioned, you could see Xiaojun just past Jeno’s shoulders.
During this entire ordeal, you kept your eyes away from him, as the indignity of the situation was too much for your soul to bear. But now that it seemed your death was near, it was only right that you gave Xiaojun one final look of goodbye.
You shifted your eyes over to the one person that remained with you through it all.
Through your peripherals you could see the glimmering metal rush towards you, but instead of feeling a sharp twinge of pain, you felt a rush of cold.
You could hear Xiaojun and Renjun’s breath hitch from afar as they both realized too that you were completely bare in front of them. Your clothes had flown off to the side, shredded from the sharpness of his trusted blade.
Despite the coolness in the air, the warmth emanating from your core served as an invitation for the monster prodding at your stomach.
Your entire body began to tremble uncontrollably, maybe as some sort of coping mechanism for the humiliation brewing deep within.
“Look at me!”
Your teary eyed shifted immediately back over to Jeno as he bellowed out his command, the cluster of veins in his neck shifting as he clenched his teeth.
Your shaking didn’t seem to help as he positioned the tip of his blade at your collarbone, pressing inward to break the skin.
“Keep looking…just like that.”
He spoke again, barely above a whisper; his speech matching the slow tempo of the knife being dragged down the centerline of your body.
The pain was nowhere near the worst to be endured, surely it was sharpness of the blade that kept the stinging bearable.
A trail of blood followed, a fine line that only stopped once the tip of the blade reached your clit.
You jumped considerably at the contact, which was enough to slice the bundle of nerves if you weren’t careful.
As you tried to keep your composure, Jeno stared deep at your struggling frame, marveling in the way gravity caused all of the maroon fluid to pool around your warm mound.
“Did you think I would kill you so soon?”
Any means of a response were thwarted as he tossed his knife to the floor.
You were shocked, as that seemed to be his most prized possession, but in mere seconds you realized why.
In two swift motions he finally let go of your throat, leaving you to stumble onto your feet and gain a few recovering breaths. You weren’t even sure how to stand on your own two feet anymore, as you’d grown so accustomed to being one with the atmosphere, flying so freely before any of this mess started.
Your chances at running towards your friends to set them free were all in vain as you heard the harsh sound of a zipper and belt clasp being undone.
The sight of his cock snapping out of his briefs was enough to make you press your back as far back into the wall as you could.
His length stood upright, with a glistening tip that managed to refract in the dimly lit room.
Time seemed to go slow as you watched his veins continue to pulse blood throughout his cock, keeping it just as red as your flushed cheeks.
Precum dripped like a broken faucet with a distinct patter as it continued to hit the ground just as fast as your racing heartbeat.
Your knees buckled as he used one hand to spread the clear liquid throughout his shaft in a slick up and down motion.
He seemed to be sensitive already as he bucked into his own hand, trying his hardest to keep his self-pleasure to a minimum.
You looked down to your feet to see that there were two puddles on the floor, one of your blood and one of his essence.
The way they attempted to mix together kept your senses distracted, completely missing that Jeno stepped up to you with his pants at the ground and his tight shirt pushed up to his muscular chest.
Your legs gave out just as he used one hand to grab at your hip, and the other hand to position his cock at your entrance.
“First time I get to fuck anything like this…”
Your brief pleas of no were cut short at his pistoned inside you without warning, attempting to tear you apart without sympathy. The guttural groan he produced from his evil chords echoed throughout the room, bouncing off the walls louder than your friends screams.
There was no way to respond to that, or to any of his actions for that matter. Not when you were being stuffed full, way past your limit.
All you could do was cry out at the pressure as he came to a standstill.
His mouth hung open in complete awe…somehow through his infliction of pain, you were wet.
And the addition of your blood made the entry all the more gratifying.
He was barely a few inches inside, but he was already touching your cervix, and the bulge present in your stomach confirmed it.
Burning began to surge throughout your core even as he stood still to try and accommodate more for himself.
“You can’t—nngh it’s too much!”
If he continued any further, you weren’t sure you would be able to voice your horror any longer.
He was too enveloped in how tight you were to care; the pleasure way above anything he’s ever killed.
Your attempts to lift off his cock only made the burning grow and eventually, earned you more inches to try and take.
Now, both hands were on either side of your hips with a death grip strong enough to leave bruised handprints on either side.
You had no choice but to wrap both legs around his waist to alleviate some of the pressure.
It wasn’t long before his groin finally made contact with yours, and shockingly you were able to breathe through all of the discomfort as he seated himself one final time.
The only thing keeping you grounded to reality was the continuous blood that seeped from your sternum and the grunts coming from Jeno’s drooling mouth as he began rocking into you at a steady pace.
You had long forgotten the others in the room—you couldn’t focus on that now or else you would go into shock.
But it seemed the more rhythm and sounds that grew between your connecting bodies, the more inclined Jeno was to remind you of your broken state.
You hoped the pleasure building within your core was strong enough to overshadow your guilt…the way he continued to hit every spot within your dripping pussy made you confident enough in that fact.
Through it all, you couldn’t bring yourself to voice how full you felt.
Your lips remained pursed together, sometimes even gnawing at the puffed skin to silence the sounds trying to escape your throat.
It wasn’t until you and Jeno’s eyes met in sync, that a whimper managed to slip.
Your eyes grew in horror, completely ignoring the skin slapping prodding at both of your ears.
You failed, but it seemed to fuel every fiber of his being.
He leaned forward to bury his face into your neck, allowing his tongue to paint a shiny picture along the side of your jawline.
You whimpered again.
Like the puppet you were, you found your hands having a mind of their own, lifting to rake your fingers through the back of his platinum locks.
“I could kill everyone you love, but you’ll still beg to take my cock…”
He groaned into your ear, tugging at your lobe for added effect.
That was enough to feel a wave of disdained euphoria wash over your entire body.
There was a band that seemed to snap at every nerve ending, causing you to squeeze your walls as tight as you could around his length until you came apart.
Your back arched involuntarily, finally giving your wings a break from the wooden wall that continued to tear the skin open with every snap of his hips.
“Fuck!”
He turned his head to roar against your cheek, hips slowly losing their rhythm the more your orgasm continued.
You voiced your displeasure with a whine as you felt him slide out of your weeping hole, only then did you realize that he wasn’t done with you.
He managed to face you to the wall despite how limp your legs were, and within seconds he was inside you again.
This new position was even more intense than the last.
Your hands grabbed at any crevice you could find on the wall for support as he drilled into you from behind.
Your eyes shifted down to see your juices splattering past his cum-laden pelvis, eventually mixing where the blood had turned black against the rustic oak floor.
“I’ll just keep you for myself, nothing more than a cock hungry slut…forever alone, taking everything I give you.”
His words stabbed at you worse than any knife.
It was too late to self-loathe any longer. The deed was long overdue, as his own release was nearing.
You felt those familiar twitches deep inside your torso, coming all the way from his scarlet-covered cock. With one final snap of his hips, heat shot deep into your womb, coating your insides in milky white. The rest pooled against his groin, spilling onto the floor to join the rest of the filth the two of you created.
His animalistic sounds had morphed into more subdued moans that played over and over like a broken vinyl as he came down from his raptured high.
Every word of caution from your family about Jeno seemed to be nonexistent now, because of you.
You were nothing more than a toy for him to use.
His exited you in a single breath, allowing your bruised body to slump onto the floor.
Convulsions soon followed as you felt his juices ooze out of your swollen hole.
You were catatonic, barely even reacting to how shameless he was in fixing his attire.
Only your hearing guided you to what he would do next.
Maybe it was in your favor that your eyes were stuck facing the door, away from the eventual slaughter of your friends.
You heard Jeno pick up his knife from the floor and walk over to what you presumed to be Renjun’s cage first.
The rustling of the metal grew just as loud as his hysterical cries.
But there was something else in the distance that you could hear, outside of the cabin.
Footsteps.
They grew in speed until a brief stop.
Luckily you were facing the door, hoping for some sort of savior.
It couldn’t have been Jaemin or Karina, as you would’ve heard the flutter of their wings instead.
Through your frozen state, only your eyes could widen as you heard the door crash open.
There standing with frenzied breaths was…Hendery.
“Jeno I’ve been looking every—”
You watched as he dropped his hands, eyes scanning the sickening scene in front of him. There was a deafening pause, where you hoped the last bit of humanity rested within Hendery.
You could only listen as he lunged at Jeno with a scream.
“You can’t fucking do this!!!”
There was an obvious power struggle, enough to knock over various items in the cabin that crashed to the ground, but not enough to make you flinch.
“Stop!! Jeno—”
Another pause, and this time you heard a knife enter someone’s skin. A rupture of what sounded like muscle tendon rang through your ears, followed by gurgling.
Time seemed to slow down as Xiaojun and Renjun entered your vision.
Without a second thought, they lifted your broken body into their arms, a collaborative effort considering your current state.
It was then that you saw the aftermath.
Jeno was sprawled on the floor in a pool of his own blood, with his knife peeking out of his neck.
The entire struggle was the claim of a life. But through it all, Hendery had set you all free.
Your tears seemed to match that of the dark-haired human as he fell to his knees, mourning the loss of his brother by his own hands.
A lasting memory that was etched into your mind instantly.
Soon, the smell of petrichor entered your nose and then came the moonlight that illuminated your skin.
As the two of them flew up into the sky, you felt Renjun place Winter and Giselle’s flower crown into your arms as you were carried to freedom.

Would you still love me, even if I was a worm?
Please note there are 3 Pokémon classified as work pokemon and they are all bug types
Wives edition (only Cynthia, Rika, and Cyllene cause my wrist cannot handle more.) pure fluff
Cynthia
-
“Babes?”
You look up at her as you lay across her lap.
Cynthia looks down, her uncovered grey eyes locking with yours. She can’t help but smile, you look so cute in her lap, gazing at her with such love yet curiosity.
“Yes, dear?”
“Would you still love me if I was a worm?”
Her brain stops.
She blinks once, twice, before rapidly doing so. You look at her so earnestly, like you want a genuine answer….but-
“What kind of worm would you be? It would I entirely depend as Snoms, Caterpies, and wurmples are all wildly different. And if you want to be technical burmies as well, since they are the bag worm Pokémon-“
“Cynthia.”
“Oh, yes?”
“Would you love me if I was a worm?”
“Dear, that entirely depends on which worm though!”
You watch as she rambles, listing off the logistics, and what each worm needs and how well it would do in certain environments.
She probably would, but you’ll never get an answer as her mind plays all sorts of scenarios.
-
-
Rika
-
She loves it when you spent time with her at work, she’s usually alone so no one is around to tell you or her off for this, and she uses every chance she can to love on you. But she notices you have something on your mind.
She hums, moving you from her lap to on top of her desk.
“Got something on your mind, doll?”
“Would you still love me if I was a worm?”
Oh you’re too cute for her heart to handle! You look so meek, so nervous, so adorable, fuck she loves you.
“Oh sweetie.” Rika places a kiss to the tip of your nose.
“I’d buy you the best fruits for your little work self to feed on, let you ride around on my shoulder just so I can still love on my buggy baby.”
Her smile grows as you giggle, covering your mouth while you do so, but she continues.
“Get you a nice big enclosure covered in pretty flowers, and with a nice branch for you to get cozy on. And of course a lot of the most how quality dirt I can get ya.”
“All for me?”
“All for you, no matter what you’re my sunshine.”
And she will be damned if anything happens to you.
-
-
Cyllene
-
You knew what the answer would be, at least, you thought you did. After getting injured and being sidelined until you’re fully healed, you’ve been bothering your betrothed a lot more now that you can’t leave the village.
And she’s the only one constantly around for you to lovingly bother.
You sat in her office, Abra dozing in your lap from all your comforting pets. The silence being filled with Cyllene’s pen moving across paper.
Your silence has her concerned, usually you’re more chatty or at least much closer to her, you never sit to the side like this.
“Cyllene?”
She glances over to you before looking back at her paperwork.
“Yes, dear?”
“Would you still love me if I was a worm?”
The office falls still and quiet.
Her pen to the side and she looks deep in conflicted thought.
You thought you’d get an out right ‘no’ but you never thought you’d make her spiral.
You can see her arguing with herself in her head, unsure of what to even say. On one hand she loves you dearly, you mean so much to her, on the other hand….she loathes bugs, she can’t even imagine being in the same room as a wurmple!
But the bug would be you…
But….
“Cyllene, please breathe!”
She’s snapped from her thoughts as you gently shake her, your arm around her back and your free hand on her forearm.
She takes a few deep breathes to calm herself, but you can’t escape her questioning.
“Why ask such a thing? You know I love you, correct?”
“I do, I just…thought it would be a silly thing to ask, maybe joke about it?”
You nervously laugh, feeling her steen gaze staying locked onto you.
“You truly are something else.” She sighs.
But you perk right up “But that’s why you love me!”
You’re right, but damn.

This is a lil boy ion wanna see none of yall sniffin around him period. I will gladly held you find your mind if you wanna lose it today!!!
Okay, no that that spiel is over, we’ve got some headcanons to address about everyone's favorite afro-latino spiderman
He’s so precious. Idc if you know already I’m telling you again, he is the most precious thing in the world. He has a heart of gold and wears it on his sleeve, he’s always looking out for people and wants to see the best in everything and everyone. Which, while it is a good characteristic to have, can sometimes put him in tough situations, and sometimes it doesn’t end well.
He’s such a momma’s boy, but like the good momma’s boy where he adapts the things Rio teaches him and repays her by being a good filial son, even though he’s growing up and wanting to branch out. If he’s having emotional trouble, he’ll come to her to try and figure out how to express himself and understand how he’s feeling. On special occasions, or just when he notices her mood is off, Miles will conspire with his dad to do something small but special for his mom, like make breakfast or drop off flowers at her work. She’s always super appreciative of it too
Waking up for him is hell in the morning, because he is not a morning person at all. It’s worse if he went on patrol the night before (which, 9/10, he has) and he almost always sleeps through his alarm. He’s the type to have to have several alarms set to get up up, because otherwise he will sleep through the day
Similarly, Miles also finds it hard for him to sleep most nights. In the beginning of his career being Spiderman he would almost never go to sleep really. Even the trick of using nyquil or melatonin gummies didn’t work because his mind was always on one hundred, thinking about everything and nothing all at once. Though as he meets friends he can confide in and grows older he learns how to manage that kind of stress, which makes it easier to sleep. Though the insomnia never truly leaves him unfortunately, and its something he has to take with him for the rest of his life
Despite his introverted self, and the fact that he tends to want to keep to himself more often than not, Miles is actually very easy to talk to and if given the time and patience, great at making friends. He’s awkward at first because he wants to measure his interactions based on the vibe of the person he’s talking to, but you will find a hardcore loyal and caring friend in Miles.
So emotionally aware that it almost hurts. He’ll be upset and know why he’s upset, but sometimes wishes he didn’t know because in some situations he may not think his emotions are valid. And because he’s such an intentional person and a hyper empath, everything he feels is multiplied by ten. So if you fuck him over, he’s probably more upset about it than you’ll ever be if you were upset at fucking him over, if that makes sense?
He’s a cuddle-bug and nothing will change my mind about it! He had hella teddy bears as a little boy and would get upset if Rio took them to be washed because he was afraid he wouldn’t see them again. For no reason in particular he’s slowly dissipated his teddy bear collection and now uses a very fluffy body pillow to hold on to as he sleeps. Sometimes if he’s sick or just very down in the dumps and Rio notices, she’ll climb into bed with him for a while and comfort him
A decent cook actually as well! He was always in the kitchen when his mom and his tia’s came over to cook so he knows how to throw down in the kitchen a lil bit. His favorite thing to make is tamales because while the process may be tedious, it allows him to unwind and clear his mind while focusing on the preparation of them.
Miles’ is the type that when he goes into the store he will always, without fail, buy a new notebook/sketchpad. He may not even need it, he may already have like ten new ones he has yet to break in, but he always likes to stay prepared for when his current one runs out. He also likes to alternate between them or dedicate certain notebooks to certain muses or drawing preferences
Will squeak out of surprise and say something in spanish if he’s startled or scared. And I’m talking like a girlish squeak and it's so cute but he’d be so embarrassed, cuz why did you have to sneak up on him like that? He was doing perfectly fine til you wanted to give him a heart attack.
On the topic of spanish, he isn’t that confident in it so he doesn’t really like to speak it if its not with his family, because he just knows he’s gonna fuck it up. So if he feels like there's pressure in a conversation where he knows he’s going to have to speak it at some point, he’ll try to back out before that happens
Miles gets so fascinated with things all the time. It happens mostly when he’s either strolling through the neighborhood or he’s on patrol. Definitely checks himself out in the glass of skyscrapers…then promptly remembers that there are people behind said glass that can see him and hurriedly swings off. And if a new pair of Jordans have been teased? Best believe he’s doing all the chores and buttering up his parents so that he can get them as soon as they drop
Speaking of Jordans; this boy is such a sneakerhead it’s insane. His dorm room AND his room at home are full of shoe boxes he has yet to style with some clothes. Keeps telling his parents “I’ma wear ‘em, I’ma wear ‘em!” but he never has the time to cuz he’s too preoccupied with being a good student and Spiderman to prioritize style over comfort (even tho he do still be fresh n clean)
He’s also the best bestie to have. Texts you tiktoks, checks in on you at seemingly always the right time. If you go to school together then you know you’re hanging out after classes. And if you need help in the sciences, Miles is the best tutor ever. And his family loves you, so birthdays, christmas and other holidays, if you’re not already celebrating with your folks, if you don’t fuck with them like that, or if you don’t have a real family, he’s inviting you over his place all the time so that you never have to feel alone.
If you enjoyed, please leave a like, comment, and reblog for others to see! And don’t be shy to send in a request!

Once we get the official Broppy wedding, I already know that Poppy will have the greatest wedding dress of all time☺️❤️🤩….
But Branch will be wearing the same vest just in a different color.😐
You’re probably right 😆
Viva – with the assistance of Satin and Chenille – is probably going to go overboard with the dress, having it made out of the best silk and lace, with flowers and a cute crown and a gorgeous veil. Branch… loves his vest look. lol
So he probably will have some kind of vest variant on him (gotta admit, I do like the one he had on for the Bridget and Gristle wedding, very snazzy 😎)

Even after all these months, the air still smells like ash. A carpet of foggy smoke hangs low over the ground, coloring everything gray. Tommy visits L’mantree every week. Not because he’s some sappy sentimental bitch. No, no, he’s a big man. And big men have big manly traditions they must follow. That’s all this is. Honestly.
It's been a gloomy couple days, but whatever. Tommy cuts one more poppy from its stem before tucking his dagger back into his pocket. He decides five will do.
See, he's been doing this for a while now. He's sort of a Tradition Expert if he does say so himself. Usually he leaves five flowers at the foot of the tree, six if he's feeling adventurous.
Why are they always gone by his next visit, you ask? Ha. Tommy doesn't have time to worry about such silly little things. Probably the wind blowing them away or some cow with an appetite.
It doesn't matter. He never stays too long. He stops by long enough to drop off the flowers, have a minute or so of sombre quiet, and then he goes about his day.
Today will be no different, he's sure.
The trek up the hill is always annoying. The ground’s still littered with debris. Concrete, metal beams, just a boatload of shit that sticks and pokes at his shoes.
Obviously he could stop and clean it up, but time waits for no man. At least the terrain at the top of the hill’s less fucked up.
Familiar branches start coming into view.
With a sigh, Tommy drops the bunch of flowers on an exposed root like he always does.
If Wilbur were here, he’d suggest at least tying the bouquet together, Tommy. Ooh, have a little decorum, Tommy. Meh meh meh.
But the high-pitched bitchy little Wilbur in his head has no power over him. So Tommy sits on the grass, as Un-Decorum-Ly as possible, and leans back against the trunk.
The trek up here was longer than usual. There's some kind of construction project happening by the Prime Path. That slowed him down a little. Fucking new people always running around building new shit. On this server? By next week, it’ll be vandalised at best, destroyed at worst so what's the point, really?
Point is, Tommy doesn't feel like walking back just yet. Big men get tired too, you know.
Okay, he could stay a little longer today. Have a quick power nap, maybe. No one except him comes around here anyways. It's no big deal.
He manages to doze off, gazing up at the roof of half-singed leaves before closing his eyes.
It could be minutes, hours, Tommy’s not sure. But at some point he's woken up by a bothersome light seeping through his eyelids.
He groans. It's late afternoon, it's been muggy for ages, and the sun chooses now to show its stupid fucking face?
Except, when he petulantly opens his eyes, the annoying beam isn't sunlight, but a soft glowing blue coming from right above his head.
What in the shit? It looks like it's coming out of the L’mantree.
After squinting up at it, Tommy does consider just going back to sleep. Maybe he's dreaming, imagining things, seeing shapes where there aren't any.
But when the light doubles in brightness, Tommy shoves down his weariness and gets up with a grumble.
The glowing comes from behind the bark. A bright radiant blue, seeping through the grooves of the wood. It looks like someone's placed a lamp at the centre of the trunk, like a weird Jack o’ lantern but, you know, it's a fucking tree.
Tommy tentatively places a hand over the cracks.
He draws back with a gasp when the light pulses, a warmth thrumming beneath his fingertips.
Okay. Okay! Fucking nevermind. He is awake. Wide awake.
Tommy snatches his satchel off the ground. He throws it over his shoulder in a rush before booking it back down the hill. Whatever that is, he decides it’s not his fucking problem.
…
Tommy has put off his next visit for weeks now. He debates not coming back at all. He comes up with a lot of excuses in the process. It's time he moved on anyways, he reasons. Totally fine and normal, normal and fine.
But as the days go by, his pride catches up to him.
Is he really going to stop because of… whatever that was? Tommy Innit did not fight a whole ass war only to be bested by some glowy wood. He's better than that!
Odds are it's just Tubbo playing a dumb prank on him. Has Tommy confronted him about it? No. Is he still going to blame him for it? Yes.
Tommy shoves his shit back into his bag and strides out his house with a rebuilt confidence.
The Prime Path is still cluttered with random build projects. It's like everyone else is trying to find a New Big Thing to replace the literal hole L’manberg left. Tommy gets it sort of, but he also thinks it's kind of pathetic.
He stops by the wild flower patch again. This time, he gathers six freshly bloomed cornflowers. As if to go Ha! See? I’m not scared.
As Tommy hikes back up the hill, the cracks in the wood have widened. So much so that he can see the blue light blinking through the fog from a distance. Leaves crunch beneath his feet, making him jump a little.
Tommy leaves the flowers at the roots per routine, but he can’t seem to take his eyes off the tree, off the web of wood woven and backlit by the most vibrant blue he’s ever seen.
Tommy steels himself. He’s strong, he’s brave, and he’s not scared of a dumb fucking tree.
Tommy shuts his eyes (out of strength and bravery, not because he’s nervous) and places his palm over the blue light.
It beats. A dull but steady rhythm that undulates against his skin. The blue light glows brighter and brighter, so much so that Tommy has to crane his head away.
Out of nowhere, the moss crawls up the bark. It wraps around his fingers, over the edges of his palms, moist and mushy. Tommy yells out, ripping his hand away. The moss stretches, clinging to him like a living web of mottled green. Fuck that. Actually fuck that, what the hell?!
In an instant, instinct grips him in a vice. Before he knows it, he’s pulled his dagger out of its sheath and plunged it into the wood.
Tommy’s breathing comes ragged as he pulls his shit together. He scuffs his hand against his pants, scraping off the remaining moss. Okay. From here on out Tommy Innit hates trees. All trees. They’re worthless hunks of wood that stand there like right bastards. He’s never coming back ever. Stupid L’mantree isn’t worth his time anyway.
With a huff, he pulls his dagger back out the bark.
And a viscous blue ooze drips from the wood like a puncture wound.
Tommy scowls at the… blue shit– for lack of a better word– with disgust. What in Prime’s name is going on? Last he checked, trees don’t bleed. Do they? No, they definitely don't.
Breaking the silence, a long drawing creak pierces the air. Chipped ash-grey fingernails dig into his shoulder, rings of bark rough on his skin even through the fabric of his t-shirt.
Tommy whirls around, heart pounding in his ears, ready to plunge his knife into his attacker.
Only for it to drop to the ground.
The creature(?) freezes in front of him, going stock-still as if it too is in shock.
This tall, lanky, asymmetrical thing… for a good few seconds Tommy can't make sense of it. Its body looks like it was made from the bark of the L’mantree itself. Its “hair” comes in the form of unkempt roots flying in every direction, thorns jutting up and out like a false crown. A trail of moss drags at its feet. But, oh, the most piercing trait this creature possesses is the multiple luminous, royal blue eyes littered across its shoddy imitation of a face.
The only way Tommy could recognize his brother is the long, withered cloak still draped over its jagged wooden shoulders. He knows those patches. Tommy spent hours sewing them on.
“Wilbur?” He says through a breath, more a question than anything else.
Wilbur— or, what’s left of him— doesn’t move, not even an inch. He doesn’t blink. His chest doesn’t rise or fall.
Strangely enough, his many eyes aren’t trained on Tommy, but a few steps behind him. He’s staring at the flowers.
Without really thinking, Tommy turns to pick up the bunch of flowers.
By the time he whirls back around, Wilbur’s moved closer. Tommy flinches, “Agh! What the hell—”
Wilbur’s palm, covered in moss and tree rings, lies face-up and outstretched in front of him.
Maybe Tommy’s dreaming. Maybe he inhaled too much smoke and he’s hallucinating. Maybe he’s finally lost his fucking mind. Either way, some kind of autopilot flicks on in his brain and Tommy deposits the bouquet in Wilbur’s hand.
Still no movement. But he does blink. Each eye closing and opening again, slowly and out of synch, like a weirdass cat.
Once again, it could be minutes, it could be hours. Tommy can never be sure. All he knows is by the time he musters up the willpower to move his feet and walk back down the hill, when he looks back over his shoulder, Wilbur is nowhere to be found.

21 Bonfire
@flufftober
„Are you gonna help or are you just going to stand around uselessly, Tomioka?” Sanemi bellowed as he walked past Giyuu, a stack of wood in his arms.
Giyuu shrugged. “I’d rather just stand around,” he said in a low voice, not loud enough for Sanemi to hear. But to his dismay, someone else did hear him.
“Lighten up,” Tengen said, raising an eyebrow as he gave Giyuu a stern look. “It’s a bonfire, not an execution. It’ll be fun, you’ll see.”
Giyuu nodded and thought to himself that an execution at least did not sound as boring as a bonfire did. But since he did not want to risk a discussion about the flashiness of a big fire with Tengen, he reluctantly followed him which earned him an approving nod.
A few minutes later, Giyuu was also packed with heaps of dry branches and twigs. He could barely see over the enormous pile in his arms and almost ran into Kyoujurou who frolicked past him, visibly excited for the bonfire.
“Oh, you’re going to be at the bonfire as well? That’s great,” Kyoujurou said cheerfully and patted him on the back before he went on his merry way, not taking notice of Giyuu’s weak smile.
And again, Giyuu asked himself what the other Hashira found exciting about a giant fire. But now that he thought about it, it probably did not come as a big surprise that the Flame Hashira and the self-proclaimed god of festivals would like a bonfire. Then again, Sanemi did not seem like the type to happily dance around a fire at all and even he was helping prepare it without any complaint. With a sigh, Giyuu braced himself for hours of gathering and piling up wood.
To his luck, he was relieved after about one hour when someone out of nowhere grabbed his wrist and pulled him through an open door. Staggering, Giyuu followed the silhouette through the twilight of a hallway, barely able to maintain his balance. Only when they reached the kitchen, the person finally let go of him and turned around, their green eyes widened.
“Giyuu, I need your help,” Mitsuri said pleadingly and Giyuu stared at her slightly overwhelmed. “I’m supposed to take care of the feast together with Obanai but then Sanemi came in and took him and now I don’t know what to do! I can’t do it alone and if I mess up, everyone will be so disappointed and hungry and –“
Desperate, Giyuu raised his hand, trying to get a word in. “Mitsuri, hold on. I’ll help you.”
“For real?” she said and slowly, she started beaming. “Giyuu, you are the very best!”
And while Giyuu still asked himself what could have been grave enough to get Obanai to leave Mitsuri alone, Mitsuri pulled him towards a kitchen isle where a mountain of ingredients loomed over an assortment of pots and pans. The stack was higher than Giyuu’s head and he instantly started regretting his offer. But then, he remembered the despair in Mitsuri’s eyes and with a sigh, he rolled up his sleeves and reached for the first ingredient.
Another two hours later, every muscle in Giyuu’s body had started hurting and he was covered in flour from head to toes. His arms ached more than they did after every single training session and now he had a vague idea what had kept Obanai from returning to the kitchen. Exasperated, he looked down at the last dish he had assembled. At least it looked nice as Mitsuri had brought him loads of flowers to decorate the dishes with.
Now, he heard her coming closer and only a moment later, she peered over his shoulder. “Aww, Giyuu, that’s so pretty,” she squealed in delight and patted his back with surprising force.
“Thanks,” he muttered, too tired to protest. “What now?”
Mitsuri glanced around the kitchen pensively and after a moment, a satisfied smile formed on her face. “I think we’re finally done. We should go and get help to carry all of this outside.” She paused and looked at Giyuu. “You know what? I’ll do it alone. How about you go upstairs and freshen up before we start the bonfire?”
Even though she had said it in very kind words, Giyuu had a vague inkling of what he must have looked like if even Mitsuri spoke up about it. However, her idea was intriguing as it presented the chance to get some time to himself before he would inevitably be forced to come outside again.
“Sounds good,” he replied and when Mitsuri shooed him away with a smile, he took the shortest route back to his assigned room in the headquarters mansion.
When Giyuu finally closed the door of his room behind him, he sighed in relief. While he did enjoy spending time with the other Hashira from time to time, he was not a fan of big groups or bonfires. Or any festive activities, for that matter. Or people in general.
With that thought, he took off his flour-dusted clothes and briefly washed his arms, neck, and face in the bath corner of his room. Then, he slipped into a fresh change of clothes with the exception of his haori. He gave it a critical look and dusted it off before deciding that this would have to do. He glanced at his door but since no one had knocked on it yet, his grace period seemed to be not over yet even though the sun had started to set. With a quick look to his window, Giyuu turned a light on and grabbed the book he was currently reading, settling down on his futon. And in no time, he had lost himself in a rather enticing adventure story about young people attending an institution called ‘university’.
When a sharp knock snapped him out of his thoughts, Giyuu already could not make out some of the letters anymore as it had gotten dark and his small lamp did not radiate enough light to read properly. With a deep sigh, he carefully set the book back down in its designated spot, ignoring the second and third knock on his door.
“Tomioka, are you in there?” a voice boomed through the door and Giyuu winced. While he had not held much hope that the others would forget about him, he had not expected Tengen to be the one showing up to force him outside.
“No, I’m not,” he replied halfheartedly and grimaced when Tengen laughed out loud.
“Very funny,” Tengen shouted back, indeed sounding amused. “Are you gonna open your door or do I have to break it down?”
“Break it down and do what next?” Giyuu asked while walking towards the door reluctantly.
Tengen thought about it for a moment before he loudly exclaimed, “Pick you up and carry you downstairs. You choose, Giyuu. Do you want to attend the bonfire the easy or the hard way?”
Of course, that was not necessarily a pleasant choice and thus, Giyuu opened his door while muttering to himself, “That would be called kidnapping, you know.”
Tengen grinned at him. “I’m not above that if it means you crawl out of your room for once, Tomioka,” he said and patted Giyuu on the shoulder so forcefully that Giyuu’s legs almost gave in. “So, do you want me to carry you like the princess you are?”
The worst part about this was that Giyuu knew that Tengen was being absolutely serious about this and if he asked for it, Tengen would indeed carry him to the bonfire in his arms. And since that was a fate that had to be avoided at all costs, Giyuu closed his door behind him and started walking. When Tengen reached for him, he quickly dodged his hand and quickened his pace.
“I’ll be fine, thanks,” he said hastily and fled the hallway, Tengen’s roaring laughter following him.
Tengen caught up to him when he reached the leaf door leading outside. Together, they left the mansion, shattering Giyuu’s hope of slipping away somewhere on the way to the bonfire. Now, he had no choice but to walk towards the backside of the mansion since Tengen was the faster one of them and would catch him in no time, should he try to escape. He glanced over his shoulder and found this conclusion mirrored in Tengen’s face as he shot him a rather malicious grin and nonchalantly closed the distance between them. Giyuu gulped and suddenly, the bonfire did seem like the better option after all.
Even before they had turned the corner, Giyuu could already see the dancing shadows and smell the scent of fire in the air. While Tengen behind him mumbled something excitedly, Giyuu took a deep breath and braced himself. Then, they walked around the building and were met with the sight of a sheer enormous fire crackling in a big ring of stones, sending flickering lights over the faces hovering around it. Along the outer wall of the mansion, the other Hashira had lined up tables that now were filled with all the dishes he and Mitsuri had made. Looking at them, he felt a hint of pride whenever he recognized a flower that he had positioned.
“You guys did a great job,” Tengen said behind him and patted his back again. “And now go and have a good time!”
And with that, Tengen gave Giyuu a gentle push, shoving him towards the bonfire while he walked over to Kyoujurou and Mitsuri. Giyuu stumbled forward and when he caught his balance again, he paused and looked around. Around the fire, the others had placed a variety of chairs and blankets, making for a rather unique setup. Apart from the Hashira, there were also many Kakushi and the Ubuyashiki kids bustling about. Behind the fire, he could even see the girls from the butterfly mansion playing with two of the Ubuyashiki daughters. Everywhere he looked, he saw cheerful faces, and the air was full of laughter and happy chattering.
All in all, it was horrible. While Giyuu did take pleasure in the fact that everyone seemed happy, he would have preferred them to be happy in a different place than he was. But since the bonfire did not appear to magically fly away to another location any time soon, Giyuu decided that it was on him to relocate himself. When he had made this resolve, the next step was to get away unseen. Cautiously, he glanced over to Tengen who was now engrossed in conversation with Mitsuri and Kyoujurou, happily chatting away and striking a flashy pose from time to time, each pose rewarded with Mitsuri’s applause.
Giyuu watched the spectacle half mesmerized, half amused for a while before he snapped out of it and started looking for a way out again. The path back to the front of the mansion was blocked by Tengen and when Giyuu looked left, he saw a group of people that he also wanted to avoid. Of course, he did not think that Obanai and Muichiro would care much about him leaving but it was possible that Sanemi would stop him just for the hell of it. So, this option was also ruled out. But if he managed to casually walk past them and to the back of the fire, the wood behind the mansion would be alluringly close. And if he found a moment where no one paid attention to him, he could maybe slip behind a tree and vanish into the night.
With this plan in mind, Giyuu straightened his shoulders and nonchalantly meandered around the fire. When he passed the group, Sanemi looked up and shot him a stern look that made Giyuu’s skin crawl. Nervously, he smiled at Sanemi which turned Sanemi’s expression into an entirely bewildered one in an instant. Giyuu cursed silently and quickly looked away, feeling Sanemi’s gaze burning on the back of his neck.
He made his way through a crowd of people until he had reached the other side of the bonfire. When he was finally there, his skin felt warm from the heat of the fire and he was fairly sure that tomorrow, his haori would smell like it had been caught in a smoke house. With a sigh, he looked up again – and to his delight, the path to the forest was clear of any people. After a quick glance in Tengen’s and Sanemi’s directions, making sure they were not directly looking at him, Giyuu took a few steps towards the forest edge. But when he was halfway there, he noticed a silhouette sitting in the shadows and he froze.
“Are you trying to sneak away, Tomioka?” a familiar voice asked and Giyuu’s heart sank.
“Uh, no,” he replied and wrecked his brain for another plausible explanation as to why he was turning his back on the bonfire and walking towards the dark forest.
But before he had an idea, he heard a faint laugh from the shadows. “Don’t even try, it’s pointless. Tengen has his eyes everywhere.”
Giyuu’s head shot up and he squinted, trying to make out her face in the dark. “Wait a minute,” he said slowly. “Did you try to sneak off too, Shinobu?”
For a moment, she stayed silent but then he heard a soft sigh. “Maybe,” Shinobu said, sounding both amused and resigned. “Either way, Tengen won’t let you leave, I promise.”
Giyuu took a few steps towards her and when he turned his back to the crackling fire, his eyes adjusted to the dark and he could make out Shinobu’s pale face. She sat in the grass, facing towards the bonfire, a strange expression on her face. “Have you ever been thrown over Tengen’s shoulder?” she asked after a while and when Giyuu shook his head carefully, she grimaced. “Yeah, I can’t recommend that either. So, if you don’t want to make that experience, you better sit down with me and wait it out.”
Judging by the painful tone in her voice, Shinobu indeed knew what she was talking about and Giyuu felt laughter bubbling up in his throat at the mental imagine of Tengen slinging Shinobu over his shoulder. He bit his lip and let himself sink down into the grass next to her. For a while, they both stayed silent until he asked, “So, you’re not a fan of bonfires either?”
Shinobu shook her head violently and glared at the fire. “Not at all. I don’t know how anyone could like this.”
Giyuu nodded in agreement and followed her gaze. “You’re entirely right,” he said, relieved to have found someone who shared his sentiment. “It all just seems so stupid, right? You pile up a mountain of wood only to set it on fire all at once. That doesn’t even make sense! It’s such a waste of resources.”
He noticed Shinobu looking up and he took it as a sign to continue. “Like, what are you even going to do with a fire like this? Dance around it like a bunch of witches and make a fool out of yourself? Heck, it’s even too big for stick bread, you’re just going to burn yourself.”
Only when he had finished his sentence, he noticed that Shinobu pressed a hand on her mouth, her cheeks blushing as she started giggling. “You’re really one of a kind, Giyuu,” she squeezed out between bouts of laughter.
Giyuu stared at her confused and asked himself what exactly about his rant had been funny enough to start giggling like a maniac. “Well, if that’s not your reason,” he said after a while, “then what is?”
Shinobu’s face took on an adorable expression somewhere between amusement and anger when she took a deep breath, trying to regain her composure. “All those lives, Giyuu,” she said after a while, her voice quivering. “All of them lost and for what?”
That was a bit too fast for Giyuu and he stared at her, trying to make sense of the lost lives she was talking about. “Do you mean the … the trees we cut down?” he asked after a while, glancing at the mountain of burning wood in the center of the bonfire.
But when Shinobu huffed, he quickly looked back at her. “No, silly,” she said, now serious. “I’m talking about the moths, of course! All those poor insects who fly directly into the fire just to be burnt alive!”
And at this moment, Giyuu lost his calm and burst out laughing. He held his sides as he cackled, his laughter worsening whenever he looked at Shinobu who stared at him with both confusion and a bit of indignation.
“What’s so funny about that?” she asked, furrowing her brows.
And for once, Giyuu forgot about his dislike for people and reached for her hand. “I’m sorry,” he chuckled. “For the moths and for laughing. But if anyone is one of kind here, it has to be you, Shinobu.”
For a moment, she glared at him but then her features softened and she intertwined her fingers with his. “Well,” she said with a resigned grin, “at least I don’t have to suffer through it alone anymore.”

Gardening Adventures- Daniel LaRusso x Chubby!Reader (1/2)
(Unedited) (No big tags, Miyagi the matchmaker, Daniel being Daniel, Reader Sucks At Gardening? Can't decide when this takes place but probably around kk2 or kk3 y'all can decide.)
Reader didn't know the first thing about gardening and it showed. The multiple dead plants I her trash can made it obvious. Every single time she tries to care for a plant it always seems to die. From over watering, underwatering, not enough sun, to much sun. A few times they even died from bugs which she desperately tried to get rid of. Sadly it was too late and the poor thing would die anyway, no matter how hard she tried.
The pain of her non-green thumb only worsened when her mother moved away over the summer.
Reader thought it would be great now that she got her own place to stay rent-free with her mom moving and leaving the house to her.
The only condition? Take care of her prized garden.
The garden was huge, taking up the whole backyard with row after row of flowers and lush trees. But with Reader’s luck they would all be dead within the next year. Something that made her stomach turn.
“Now when I come to visit next spring all of my precious little plant baby better be doing good! You know that garden has won four years in a row at our HOA garden competition. I would hate to have to give up the beautiful plack that they awarded us.”
“Yes Mom I know! You go on and on about how we win every year. Don't worry I promise I will keep the garden happy and healthy while you're are gone. You can count on me.” Reader says on her weekly phone call with her mother. She tries her best to sound confident. On the inside, she panicked.
“I know you will dear. If you have any questions or need advice, feel free to check out the number and address I wrote down in my notebook in the garden shed. It's the number and address of Mr.Miyagi, he's a man I met a while ago when we first moved to town. He's very good with plants! He's single-handedly the one that even got me into gardening in the first place. Please don't hesitate to call him! Love you!” the phone call was short-lived as she hung up a second later.
The chubby girl sighed as she put the phone back on the receiver.
She had no chance of keeping the garden alive! She could have to call this “ Mr.Miyagi” and hoped he could help her out. Without any kind of guidance, she knew that there was no hope of keeping all of those beautiful plants alive. The garden needed daily care and she couldn't do it all without a little bit of help.
Advice and maybe some tips were her only chance to keep all of those healthy plants in tip-top shape.
The next week she tried her absolute best to keep everything in perfect order. From going out and watering all of the flowers that needed it, to trimming any dead branches from the trees. Flowers were mid-bloom this time of year. Buds poked out and flourished in the hot California sun. She even put out some high-quality fertilizer. She spent hours outside sitting in the grass and dirt making sure every little detail was looking good. Every leaf was nice and green, every flower bud bright or nice and dark.
Only the next day to be filled with dread as the flowers slowly started to wilt a little. Way too soon to be normal. Her heart started to break as she looked at every drooping flower. All that effort only for it to fall though. The feeling of failure washed through her like a too deep of wave pulling her in. Deeper and deeper into the sad feeling of knowing she couldn't keep the yard in line.
That morning she rushes inside the small shed. Going through every drawer she finally found the small notebook her mom had told her about. She flipped through the first few pages and found a number and address scribbled on the bottom of one of the later pages.
Quickly finding her telephone she punched in the number, a small ring going through. After a minute or two someone finally picked up.
“Miyagi hai.”
Oh um hi I’m ——- daughter. She moved away about two weeks ago leaving her garden to me. She left me your number if I had any questions about taking care of the greenery and plants. Sadly I don't seem to have much luck going for me, I'm afraid I might be doing something wrong. A few of the flowers already seem to be under the weather.”
Their was a long pause, then some loud banging sounds in the background of the call. Some shouts where heard and then possible a door slamming.
“Miyagi know mother well, nice lady. You come over to Miyagi house and I show you.” before she could say another word the phone disconnected. Reader pulled the phone from her ear and looked down at it. Chewing her lip she sighed a little before putting it back on the hook.
“He didn't even ask of I had the address….god thing mom left it in that book.”
The next day she headed over the Mr.Miyagi’s place. The drive over was short but sweet, the whole drive was silent besides the sound of her car radio. A few updeat song played as she drove across the more quiet part of town. Not much was out in these parts but land. Odd to say for California but here she was, on a street so desolate she could hardly tell of anyone actually live all the way out here.
A smile pulled at her lips as she watched the clear road.
Soon enough she found herself in front of a gate with a small house behind it.
She parked Inside the small lot, filled with old cars. She silently wondered if any of them still worked by the looks of them. Most of them looked old and abandoned, but oddly enough looked very clean. Like someone had taken the time to wash and shine every single one of them. Getting out of her car she followed the fence and found a small gate, pushing it open she was met with a beautiful sight.
A beautiful landing laid behind the simple fence. The grass was a lush green, light foliage around the yard. A pathway of wood paths with a pond right in the middle. It looked like a small paradise!
She quietly walked in and shut the gate behind her, walking slowly though the yard. She was careful to follow the small pathway. Walking along it she stared down at the pond as she got closer to it. Looking down she smiled, taking notice of the large koi fish that swam around the clear water. They varied in color and size, different patterns and even shapes.
Minutes passed just watching them until she remembered why she had come so far. Her eyes glance over to the small but nice-looking house in the back of the yard. Walking over to it she notices that the door is open. Looking inside she finds a quaint little home. Gently she knocks on the door, waiting for some kind of response.
An old man quickly came from out of a back room, his face relaxed as he walked over. His age seemed to give him no trouble in moving quickly to great her. He gave only a slight smile as he said “You must be Reader-San, your mother tell me many things about you. You say, need help, with plants, correct.” Reader smiled and nodded. Hopefully, she had not come out there for nothing.
Mr.Miyagi seemed nice enough from their small introduction. Her mom seemed pleased with the man as well so he had to be good at what he did. He was quick to usher her into his home.
She followed him as he guided her though the very small home.
“I will teach how to take care of plants.” He spoke to her in almost bear english. He led her to a small table where he motioned for her to sit down. He grabbed an old book off a nearby shelf and laid it on the table in front of her. With a brow raised she looked to him. He seemed to understand saying “Book good for learning. Lots of stuff on plants. Mother Love flowers, Miyagi write done for her in spare time. Hope it help.” Reader looks back at the book. There is no real cover just a hard-back lick notebook of some kind. Flipping it open there are some random notes. All of which are written in neat handwriting.
Tilting her head she starts to notice how the writing starts to drift off. Flipping a few pages Reader starts to question some things.
“Mr, Miyagi did your really write all of this yourself? The hand writing seems to change after a few pages-”
“Oh that is Daniel-Sa-”
Before could finish his sentence a loud crash came from outside the house followed by some swearing. Miyagi rolls his eyes as he slowly moves to look outside. He buffs before saying “Miyagi said move, not break!” he slaps at the door frame a little. Reader can't help but laugh a little with has Reader giggling a bit. Miyagi seems to hear that and gives her a glance making her they and cover up her laughter.
She doesn't notice the small smirk he has on his lips as he turns back to the door.
“Daniel-San, put down and come in. I want you to meet Reader-San!”
(Will be a part two of this, I have a few young Daniel asks but I really wanted to make this one. This is for the “Daniel sluts” as they have come to call themselves here on my blog.😂
Love that for y'all!)

Downton Abbey Fashion 34 - wedding gowns in 1920
Time for the actual stars at the wedding events! In Mary’s case, that’s an eye-rolling “fucking finally!”, in Edith’s case… it’s a deep sigh and “she deserved better”. But I personally think Edith made the better deal fashion-wise. Shame that dress went to waste; she should have kept it. Cut it six inches shorter, dye it golden and wear it as an evening gown?
Here’s what I thought might have been a hot take, but turns out that I don’t stand on my own with my opinion: Mary’s first wedding gown was kind of underwhelming. I’ve read somewhere it was “show-stopping”, “stylish”, “very elegant”… and I kind of went “well, it’s nice, I guess.” But @thescarletlibrarian is probably right: The glamor of this doesn’t translate well to camera, as all the lace and beading are so white that they simply get washed out. So the dress looks somewhat more plain than it would be in the making. The lighting in her getting-dressed scene shows that there’s actually a lot of decoration on that fabric, but once she steps out onto the stairs, it is barely visible.
I’m not opposed to the shape itself, but I suspect it might have fallen more elegantly if it weren’t for the drop-waist sash. Tying the dress down there gives it overall more of an apron effect. I’m not sure how I feel about the neckline. I guess it frees her from having to choose a necklace, but I think I wouldn’t cringe at thought of how the fabric must have felt on her throat if she’s just left out these upper two inches of lace and instead used the boat neckline that’s still visible on the under layer. But showing her collarbones is probably scandalous. In a way, this dress fits Mary’s personality well; her dresses are in general a tad more conservative than Edith’s and Rose’s. And Sybil’s pantaloons, since we’re at it.
In all fairness – the veil is a dream. I’m hopelessly biased in favor of long veils, and this one coordinates so well with the trim on her train. It has some rather lovely trim itself; in the last picture, the tiny pearls are visible that must be there all along the at least two yards. And of course, she has the family tiara that @tiaramania can tell you more about and that’s the only piece of jewelry she wears because she obviously expected her dress to do most of the shiny job. It didn’t quite live up to the task, but that tiara is an antique, and it is gorgeous. Maybe it’s for the best it doesn’t have company there.
--------------
Edith also wears the tiara for her wedding, and while admittedly she does combine it with a necklace, it’s a small, understated number with a little drop pearl on it. Her veil is similarly long as Mary’s, but it looks plainer so she can dramatically throw it down the hall without conscience bites, apparently having no trim to speak of, and I think it has a little more structure to it, with the way it hovers a bit above the back of her head. Although that might also be because Edith’s hair has more structure.
Ironically, Edith’s neckline is pretty much exactly what I just imagined would have looked good on Mary’s dress. It’s not deep, but it curves enough to leave her collarbones uncovered. And where Mary opted for beaded lace, Edith goes with “plain” silk satin that’s flowing down her body into this dream of a train. Can we talk about the train? This flower-and-leaves embroidery is gorgeous. And I love the ruching on the hip; it gives her dress a shape that I personally find more flattering than Mary’s apron-with-a-sash style. I semi-recently tried, and mostly failed, to attempt this kind of hip ruching on a dress I made. Perhaps because I didn’t have the embroidery to pull it off.
You know, the entire drapery of the dress and the branches of her back embroidery reaching to her shoulders remind me a little of ancient Greek gowns. Which I realize sounds silly when I just described Mary’s style as more conservative, but it’s the impression I get from this smooth fabric and the asymmetrical design where Mary went for lace and symmetry. Now if only Anthony Strallan would have come to his conclusion a little earlier, maybe this beautiful dress wouldn’t be associated with a great injustice to Edith.
