Hi! I’m Andrea, but you guys can also call me Andy, Gremlin, or Barm. I’ll be your host! This poll bracket is themed around national/state flowers (because it’s my new random hyperfixation and nobody else on Tumblr has taken this idea yet). I am relatively new to Tumblr, and this is my first time running a poll/bracket/tournament thingy, so please bear with me. So I’m making this initial post because A) I want to ask you guys a few questions about how I should run the polls, B) I want this to get reblogged so people will become aware of my blog and actually vote on my polls by the time I roll them out, and C) it felt like I probably should make at least one big announcement post first, since other similar accounts also have one. Anyway, sorry for rambling! If you wouldn’t mind, and if you’d like to participate, please reblog this post and comment/reply/write in the tags with your answers to the following questions:

1. Should I dedicate this poll bracket to US state flowers or national flowers from every country? The US state flowers poll bracket would take significantly less time, since there’s only 50 states. The national flowers bracket would take much longer since there’s well over 200 countries. However, the flowers within them and their cultural significance are way more interesting (to me, at least). I’m planning to do both of these ideas anyway if I like hosting the poll bracket games enough. I just want to know which one I should start first.

2. Some states and countries may have more than one national flower. Should I include all of them or pick just one per state/country?

3. Assuming we go with the national flowers route instead of the states, should I include plants that aren’t typically considered flowers? Some countries, like Canada, Argentina, and The Ivory Coast, have national trees/tree blossoms instead of regular flowers. And some countries, like Ireland and Lesotho, have other national plants that people typically wouldn’t consider flowers (the shamrock and the spiral aloe, respectively). Should they be included as well?

4. Again, assuming this is a national flowers bracket, should I include broad categories of flowers? For example, many countries have roses as their national flower. No specific kind of rose, just generally roses. I’d feel bad excluding so many countries if I decided not to include broad flower categories. But then again, it’s kind of weird to put large categories of flowers against specific species. Plus, excluding them might save some time by shortening the list of “contestants.”
