Oh, oh, oh, oh, watched a documentary the other week about Red Cross and military nurses in WW1 and WW2, and a lot of WW1 nurses signed back up in WW2, so now there's a nurse under Minnie who is older than her named Flossie, and Flossie joined the Red Cross long before the US entered WW1, and then her fiance was drafted when the US did enter the war.

He gets shot in the leg, and ends up losing it from below the knee, and he also gets some shrapnel to the face that scars him, and he thinks Flossie won't want to be with him when she sees him again. He's very wrong. They're happily married in WW2 breaks out, and he's not surprised she signs up again.

She's great for Minnie to have around because she's lived an adult life, and so many of the nurses are just coming into their own. But also, when Hambone goes down and writes how he's going to have obvious scarring, he tells Charlotte he understands if she doesn't want to be seen with someone who's all marked up. Minnie has no real idea what to say to Charlotte when she shows up in her office looking wrecked because "How could he say that, ma'am?? How could he think that???" And Flossie swoops in and sits with Charlotte and tells the story of her own husband, and then Charlotte feels better, and Minnie's even more grateful for Flossie than before.
