eyup it's a real person woah, not actually Claus EGAD!! ok just want to clarify this, so here's 10 reasons as to why i will smite any shippers who interact with this page:

1) Shipping kids is gross

2) Only canonical ships are tolerable here (e.g, Hinawa x Flint and Black Sesame Seed x White Sesame Seed and things like Ness x Paula etc. only things that are done right and would actually make sense, like Jeff x Tony where they're like best friends but a bit closer, no kissing or yucky stuff at all thabk you very much)

So obviously this was going to be SBI/Benchtrio centric because I’m most familiar with those groups. Mother 3 is a bit challenging when it comes to character relationships because you got both familial and friend relationships. I feel like people tend to focus on the Lucas/Claus brotherly link and all that and while it is definitely important, the game itself focuses more on Lucas, Kumatora, and Duster’s friendships. And it gets hard to balance, yknow?

(Also this going to lean more towards the characters rather than the creators)

Honestly, only Wilbur could fit Flint’s role. Phil and Techno are much too caring to those close to them. And then I thought, Tommy! Hes like the overlapping one in SBI and Benchtrio, so he can be Lucas! I mean, he was gonna be Lucas anyways but still. Phil and Techno just slotted into Hinawa and Claus (Techno can be cool, as a treat).

I spent a really long time arguing between where Tubbo and Ranboo should go, because their personalities match Kuma and Duster one way but their situations match the other say. Basically personality: Tubbo = Kuma, Ranboo = Duster, but situations, Ranboo = Kuma, Tubbo = Duster. I’m still very conflicted on this.

And then you have other people and groups affiliated with each of these characters, specifically the Magypsies for Kuma and DCMC for Duster

Hm, that’s an interesting one! It’s hard to say since before the timeskip, the people living in Tazmily are really the only people Lucas knows, and since Tazmily is such a small village, everyone kinda knows everyone already? Though changing little things here and there could potentially have had a big impact. Like, Lucas is generally a pretty open book emotionally, and he’s pretty good about not bottling things up. Mostly. But he also was pretty lonely after losing Claus and Hinawa, since Flint basically peaced out to look for Claus and Lucas had to basically take it upon himself to raise himself / get stronger mentally and emotionally — that’s not even beginning to talk about the villagers all generally being more self-interested with the industrialization of Tazmily and introduction of capitalism. So this need to rely mostly on himself also contributed partly to his tendency to push himself sometimes to the point of breaking.

Of course, taking this question to the logical extreme, giving Lucas a completely different cast of characters to interact with would be — well, what we see in my roleswap AU. I also mentioned this briefly on the blog pretty recently, but had Lucas been the Commander instead, he wouldn’t have even had the room to breathe emotionally and grieve after Hinawa’s death. And that would’ve had him somewhere in between his pre-timeskip self, and a completely different character that has trouble coming to terms with / outwardly expressing his emotions at all after three years of basically having all of it forcefully suppressed.

These are probably more “what if x happened differently” than “what if Lucas interacted with different people,” but again, there’s...really not many more people for him to interact with before the timeskip KJDHSFLKJDHG. Living in a safe haven in an otherwise post-apocalyptic world do be like that

a ship: i honestly don’t think about mother 3 shipping too much but i think nesscas is pretty cute. i hate the way ᴄᴇʀᴛᴀɪɴ ᴘᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ interpret nesscas with a burning sincerity though so i basically never interact with it online because people can’t fucking behave >:(

a brotp: aside from the obvious literal take of him and claus, i really love to think about him and kumatora as a surrogate siblings deal and how much that means to both of them for different reasons. protective big sis kuma keeps my heart beating and the similarities between her and both claus and hinawa [admittedly this is getting into headcanon territory a bit but shh] are a goldmine of character exploration, of both the angsty and the heartwarming kind

a headcanon: he gets almost no sleep for the three years between claus’ disappearance and the end of the game because he and claus have a psychic connection that, among other things, has a side effect of linking their sleep cycles. i doubt that the masked man is being read a story and tucked into bed every night [as much as he deserves it] so while the link is weakened enough by distance and time and claus losing access to his own mind that lucas is capable of sleeping alone, it’s almost impossible for him to do so until he’s physically collapsing from exhaustion and he often goes several days without sleeping at all. he manages to get a more consistent sleep cycle going once kuma and duster realise ‘this small child is sleep deprived to an upsetting degree’ and make it their mission to ensure he gets at least a bit of rest every night but it’s not until claus either dies or comes back [depending on how you like your ending] that he finally recovers the ability to just go to fucking bed. i have so many lucas headcanons it was REALLY hard to only choose one ack

general opinion: this is my son. i want to hold him gently and tell him that he’s going to be okay and then yeet him into extensive long-term therapy to ensure that that promise comes true. lucas has been through so much shit and my one wish is for him to be happy and feel loved by his new family [flint don’t interact we will deal with you later] and move on healthily from his trauma and get genuine psychological help. why are there no therapists in tazmily jesus christ

what is your muse's sense of humour like? are they known for being joking, or serious?

light-hearted, wordplay humor that was passed down from hinawa to him, it’s like, an atteberry family thing where pun-based jokes are common. normal to them, but flint always found it irritating from the in-law and not his wife or kids. 

he used to bicker with claus and joke with him, they’d often exchange quips at the dinner table, and have a laugh. they shared the same tastes in jokes - a little bit, as claus had a preference for dishing out quick lowbrow humors rather than puns.

lucas tends to recite jokes to himself and close friends, but is seen as a serious man amongst fellow villagers. he kept to himself more often than before, but he still loves hearing jokes.

is there something your muse can't live down, no matter how hard they try? what is it? if not, is there something your muse has said or done that embarrasses them?

one time, when hanging out with kumatora, they were at vega & stopped by an arcade; this isn’t out of the ordinary. considering how there are casinos and all. it would make sense there’s an arcade somewhere in the city.

kuamtora introduced lucas to coin pushers and he was stuck playing that thing like a boomer for 3 hrs straight. kuma had to pull him off the machine bc his animal brain went brrrrrr gamba!!!

Post-traumatic growth (PTG) is a theory that explains [a] transformation following trauma. It was developed by psychologists Richard Tedeschi, PhD, and Lawrence Calhoun, PhD, in the mid-1990s, and holds that people who endure psychological struggle following adversity can often see positive growth afterward.

"People develop new understandings of themselves, the world they live in, how to relate to other people, the kind of future they might have and a better understanding of how to live life," says Tedeschi. [x]

Research into the topic of PTG shows that people who experience it will see growth in the aforementioned areas following the struggle immediately after the trauma. This is not to be confused with resilience; “Someone who is already resilient when trauma occurs won't experience PTG because a resilient person isn't rocked to the core by an event and doesn't have to seek a new belief system” (above APA link).

Following the death of Hinawa, disappearance of Claus, and reforms of the Pigmasks, Lucas experienced post-traumatic growth. The process took years ( try three, let’s say ), but after the shock of it all faded, he found himself questioning things and wanting to change for the better.

Prior to the event, Lucas was already a highly empathetic individual, but following it, he’s found that he’s even more sensitive to the suffering of others. He’s shown personal growth, becoming braver, more assertive, and more outgoing than his old passive self. And, he’s had to adapt to a rapidly changing world; not only has his home life changed, with only his father there ( and not even all the time ), but the village and everything on the Islands changed with the Pigmasks’ regime. Lucas just had to become more adaptable — and he did.

Of course, this is not to say that his childhood trauma was a good thing; he suffered from it for years after it happened. His change in character was slow, and initially he experienced nightmares and survivor’s guilt, wondering why he was still here and not Claus or his mother. Not to mention, he was extremely lonely when Flint began to distance himself from the home, gravitating towards family that wasn’t even there anymore. This is not to say that these things have disappeared from his life, either. Lucas still feels lonely and isolated, as the only person in Tazmily aside from Flint who has the experiences that he does. He lives with a fear of losing loved ones, a fear of fire, and an apprehension of change that he will carry with him for the rest of his life because of what happened to him when he was younger. But his experiences have also shaped him into a new person. The necessity to become strong for himself has changed not only him, but his world view and his connections with other people.

And, the world and the family he grew up in set him up for this. His family life was a strong one full of positive influences, and the community he grew up in was one that gave and expected nothing in return. Even though half his family has been ripped away from him, and the Pigmasks introduced the “money” that changed the way people interacted and did things for each other, Lucas had the foundation he needed to change and become a stronger person than he used to be. He still suffers from the fears and sensitivities of his past self, and probably always will, but he’s learned how to better control these things. The tragedy in the forest was just the unfortunate catalyst for this to happen.
