Trains are really unpredictable. Even in the middle of a forest two rails can appear out of nowhere, and a 1.5-mile fully loaded coal drag, heading east out of the low-sulfur mines of the PRB, will be right on your ass the next moment.I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn't there the moment before. I looked down: "Rail? WTF?" and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling.Deafening railroad horn. I dumped my wife's pants, unfolded, and dove behind the water heater. It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC's pulling, and 2 Dash-9's pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours!Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths?A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention. There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it

Review: New 2025 GMC Sierra Pickup Truck
Tumblr media
The GMC Sierra 1500 is actually a synonym for "Chevrolet Silverado." Under all that chrome and paint, the two full-size pickups have comparable mechanical prowess, despite their distinct exterior designs.
The Sierra 1500 is available as a single cab, double cab, or four-door crew cab, just like the Chevrolet 1500. The bed length ranges from 5.8 to 8.2 feet. A base turbocharged four-cylinder, a hefty Duramax diesel, a 5.3-liter V-8, and a 6.2-liter V-8 are all available as powertrain options.
The Sierra 1500 ranks highly on two significant rankings. It has a maximum conventional towing capacity of 13,200 pounds, making it one of the strongest pickups in its class.
Even though the Sierra offers a large touchscreen and more leather than ever before in its cockpit, it cannot match the Ram 1500's interior elegance.
Introducing New Sierra
The 2025 GMC Sierra will likely usher in the next iteration of full-size pickup trucks. Notably, the vehicles of the next generation will feature new powertrains.
During a recent GM Investor Event, General Motors President Mark Reuss discussed the automaker's efforts to boost fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the forthcoming next-generation pickups.
Reuss stated that new powertrains with significant enhancements in efficiency and performance would be included. The next update to our engine portfolio for our next-generation full-size vehicles will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10 percent compared to our current offerings.
In addition to updated powertrain options, the 2025 GMC Sierra will feature all-new exterior and interior designs and a completely new platform.
The next-generation GMC Sierra will not use the same platform as the GMC Hummer EV SUV and Hummer EV Pickup, which use GM's Ultium battery technology and Ultium drive technology.
Transmission, Engine, and Performance
The Sierra is offered with four distinct engines, two transmission options, and either rear- or four-wheel drive. The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder producing 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. It has an automatic transmission with eight speeds.
There are two available V-8 engines: a 5.3-liter with 355 horsepower and a 6.2-liter with 420 horsepower. A torque-rich diesel six-cylinder engine produces 460 lb-ft of torque. Each engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
On our test track, a fully-equipped Denali Ultimate with a 6.2-liter V-8 accelerated to 60 miles per hour in just 5.4 seconds. The Sierra 1500 is also available with adaptive dampers and rims measuring up to 22 inches in diameter.
While the Sierra lacks the off-road prowess of the high-flying Ford F-150 Raptor, it does offer two off-road-specific models. The robust AT4 model features a 2.0-inch suspension lift and other trail-worthy features.
The AT4X shares several features with the Silverado ZR2, such as advanced spool-valve dampers, electronic-locking front and rear differentials, additional skid plates, and 18-inch black rims with gnarly off-road tires.
A steel front bumper with a winch, AEV 18-inch rims, and steel rock sliders are included as part of the AT4X AEV package. The Sierra has a rougher ride than the Ram 1500, but it maneuvers exceptionally well due to its responsive steering and limited body roll.
Production Release
We expect the 2025 GMC Sierra to debut in the United States in the autumn of 2024. The following manufacturers are anticipated to continue producing the Sierra 2025:
GM Flint Assembly, located in Flint, Michigan, United States of America (HD)
(LD) GM Fort Wayne Assembly in Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States of America.
Mexico's GM Silao Assembly (LD)

Tumblr media
Building The Vehicle As the project progresses, the team encounters various technical hurdles during the construction of the vehicle. The mechanics led by Greg Melvin work tirelessly to troubleshoot and refine the design, ensuring that it can withstand the demanding conditions of the underwater drive. They collaborate closely, leveraging their collective expertise to overcome each obstacle that stands in their way.
Tumblr media
Amidst the excitement and preparations for their daring expedition, the team encounters unexpected mechanical issues with the Land Cruiser. Greg, a skilled mechanic within the team, takes charge, analyzing the situation with a determined focus. He realizes that the long air pipes connecting the engine and exhaust are prone to condensation build-up, which could pose a potential problem during the underwater drive. Undeterred by the challenge, Greg calls Dave and they set out to find a novel solution.
Tumblr media
With their adventurous spirits and innovative minds, the team collaborates to devise a creative fix for the condensation issue. Guided by Greg's expertise & dave’s out of the box thinking, they employ their problem-solving skills and to think outside that box. Using the available tools and materials at hand, they craft a unique system to capture and redirect the water condensation that forms within the air pipes, ensuring the Land Cruiser remains in optimal condition throughout the underwater drive.
The innovative condensation fix developed by Greg, Dave and the team incorporates a well-thought-out system to manage the water buildup in the Land Cruiser's intake and exhaust pipes. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how it works:
1. U-Bend and Box: A u-bend is installed in the intake and exhaust pipes above a box located on the floor of the vehicle. This u-bend serves as a trap for the condensed water vapor, preventing it from entering the engine or exhaust system.
2. On/Off Valve: An on/off valve with a handle connects the u-bend to the box. When the valve is opened, the water from the pipes flows into the box.
3. Box Drainage: Once the water has been collected in the box, another valve is opened to allow the water to be drained out of the box. This valve is designed to utilize air pressure from a bank of g-sized air bottles located in the back of the vehicle tray. The air pressure forces the water out of the box and into the sea, effectively removing it from the system.
4. Closing the Drain Valve: After the water has been emptied from the box, the drain valve can be closed to prevent any further water leakage.
5. Reopening the Intake Valve: With the water removed from the system, the intake valve can be safely reopened, allowing the engine to draw in air for combustion once again.
By incorporating this mechanism, the team ensures that any water condensation within the pipes is effectively captured, drained, and removed from the Land Cruiser's engine and exhaust system. This innovative solution guarantees the smooth operation of the vehicle during the underwater drive, minimizing the risk of damage caused by water buildup.
Proudly showcasing their ingenuity, Greg, Dave and the team unveil their condensation fix, after one of the sponsors GJ Wigg Plumbing completes the work. The photograph captures the innovative solution, showcasing their resourcefulness and determination to overcome mechanical challenges. The contraption they have devised redirects the condensed water, preventing any potential damage to the Land Cruiser's engine and exhaust. It serves as a testament to their dedication and commitment to ensuring the success of their extraordinary journey.
Tumblr media
Facing the challenge of water pressure on the engine during the underwater drive, the team devises a strategic solution to maintain optimal engine performance. With their innovative thinking and mechanical expertise, they develop a mechanism to pressurize the engine while submerged. Here's how it works:
1. Valve on the Tappet Cover: A specially designed valve is installed on the top of the engine's tappet cover. This valve is set to maintain a pressure equivalent to one atmosphere (or atmospheric pressure at sea level). It acts as a safeguard to prevent water from entering the engine during the underwater drive.
2. Intake Valve with Air Supply: At the bottom of the engine, an intake valve is installed. This valve connects to the G-sized air bottles located in the back of the vehicle. These air bottles supply pressurized air to the engine while it is submerged, effectively counteracting the external water pressure.
3. Pressurizing the Engine: By opening the intake valve, the pressurized air from the air bottles enters the engine's intake system. This pressurization creates an internal pressure within the engine that matches the surrounding water pressure, ensuring a balanced environment.
4. Maintaining Optimal Performance: With the engine pressurized, any potential water ingress is mitigated, preserving the engine's functionality and preventing damage due to excessive water pressure.
Through this ingenious solution, the team safeguards the Land Cruiser's engine from the detrimental effects of water pressure during the underwater drive. The pressurized system, consisting of the valve on the tappet cover and the intake valve supplied by the air bottles, maintains a balanced pressure environment within the engine, allowing it to operate smoothly even in the submerged conditions. This strategic fix reinforces the team's commitment to overcoming mechanical challenges, ensuring the success of their audacious expedition across the Darwin Harbour.
Tumblr media
Addressing the minor yet significant issues, the team implemented smart solutions to ensure a smooth underwater drive. They tackled potential problems with the vehicle's tires, fuel tank, and pipe stability with practical modifications. Here's how they resolved these challenges:
1. Tire Modification: To prevent tire collapse under water pressure, the team made a daring decision. They removed the air from the tires and replaced it with water, effectively eliminating the risk of collapse. This ingenious adaptation ensured that the Land Cruiser's tires remained resilient and maintained their shape throughout the underwater journey.
Tumblr media
2. Fuel Tank Replacement: Recognizing the potential for pressure collapse, the team opted to replace the original fuel tank. They installed a cylindrical version, carefully positioned in the tray of the vehicle. This modification ensured that the fuel tank could withstand the water pressure, guaranteeing the Land Cruiser's uninterrupted performance during the expedition.
Tumblr media
3. Stabilizing Clamps: Understanding the importance of pipe stability, the team bolstered the integrity of the intake and exhaust pipes. They installed two large, robust clamps that securely bolted the pipes to the tray of the vehicle. This reinforcement prevented any unwanted movement or detachment of the pipes, ensuring a consistent and reliable flow of air during the underwater drive.
Tumblr media
Concerns about the effects of saltwater on the battery and starter motor emerged as crucial challenges.
Acknowledging the challenges associated with starting the engine underwater, the team explored the possibility of an air starter system. However, despite their attempts, circumstances prevented the procurement of an air starter, and an alternative approach had to be adopted.
In response, the team devised a unique solution to safeguard these vital components during the underwater drive.A specialized black goo, known for its sealing properties, was utilized to encapsulate the battery, forming a protective barrier against the corrosive nature of saltwater. This innovative approach ensured that the battery remained shielded, preserving its functionality and preventing potential damage caused by the underwater environment.Similarly, the starter motor, which remained dry due to the pressurized engine solution, was protected from saltwater exposure. By maintaining a sealed and pressurized engine system, the team minimized the risk of water infiltration into critical engine components.
With the battery securely sealed and protected, the team implemented an efficient wiring system for connectivity. A single cable originating from the battery, located on the floor near the condensation box, snaked its way up to the dashboard. There, it connected to a button strategically placed beneath the boat throttle, serving as a replacement for the conventional foot throttle.
This innovative configuration allowed for seamless control and activation of the starter motor. By integrating the cable and dashboard button, the team ensured easy access and operation while keeping the system protected from saltwater exposure.
Through these clever adaptations and modifications, the team successfully addressed potential issues that could have hindered their progress. Their innovative thinking and attention to detail further solidified their preparations, enhancing the Land Cruiser's capabilities and increasing their chances of a successful journey across the Darwin Harbour.
With the major issues of the water engine pressure and condensation fixed, they are one step closer to realizing their audacious dream of driving across Darwin Harbour, ready to face the unknown with unwavering determination.

Rundown of the AU
So basically, how it all went down is that a woman had an interview with both captains for a job, and knowing the standards back then, they obviously said no. She essentially was super petty, and cast a curse over both fleets as a result. This curse ended up spreading like a virus, spreading to other fleets, and other regions. The curse allowed the tugs of both fleets to stay relatively the same in appearance, but with a few changes.
Biggest ones were turning them into biomechanical beings, being a mix of both skin, bone, and metal, but in a much better way than you think. Their frame acts as their skeletal structure, so technically made of metal or wood. Their teeth had changed slightly to adapt to a carnivorous diet rather than not being able to eat at all, combined with their heightened sense, they are a threat to be taken seriously.
Besides their sharp senses, new diet, and teeth, they have corrosive venom that is highly flammable. This in turn allows for them to kill prey with ease, and to spit fire for a short time. This is possible due to a small pouch in the skeletal structure in the bottom jaw called the spark pouch. The contents are a piece of flint and steel. When the tug attempts to spit fire, the pouch shifts, and relaxes, moving the steel and flint, creating a spark and igniting the venom. The already flaming venom ignites the upcoming venom, creating a continuous stream of fire.
Their anchors have changed into clawed hands of sorts, easily capable of crushing boulders, and slicing through steel with ease. These claw-like hands are razor sharp, and can easily kill a human if the tug isn’t careful. However, they can ever so gently hold a human in their claws without harming them, but this takes some practice.
The tow line is still essentially the same, able to still wrap around things, and allow the tug to pull whatever it is attached to, but it can move freely. The tow line sometimes acts similar to a cat’s tail, indicating the mood of a tug without the need to look at their facial expressions, which comes in handy when dealing with a tug like Zebedee.
One by one the tugs started to change, and the two captains set out to try and reverse it. However, that is highly unrealistic in my standards since you can’t reverse or take back what you say, but you can go back and change it and try to make things better. Which is why the curse was unable to be reversed, and was altered instead, allowing special people to create a unique bond with a tug. These people are called Riders.
Riders work together to help protect the port from potential threats, usually working alongside the Coast Guard, or sometimes law enforcement. To be a Rider is like being a celebrity. It’s a common dream for children to wish to be picked by a tug and go out to have epic adventures with them.
The Sodor engines were affected by the curse as well, having turned into beasts themselves. The steamers being the carnivores, and the diesels being the herbivores
Basically, that’s a basic rundown. Anyone who has questions about anything about the AU, or myself in general, please don’t hesitate to ask.

The History of Zombie Road
Zombie Road has quite a reputation as a place where shadowy figures and other non human entities have long been reported.
Gregory Myers of the Paranormal Task Force presents this piece on the history and deaths of one of the most haunted locations in the United States.
Within the urban sprawl of St. Louis lies a remote area called “Zombie Road”. Urban Legend tells a variety of eerie tales which include being host to ritualistic and occult practices which spawned inhuman and demonic entities while other tales tell of those who met their peculiar demise and still roam this desolate road in the afterlife.
“Zombie Road”, real name “Lawler Ford Road” is about 2 miles long through a valley of forest oak land hills and ends near the Meramec River in the Glencoe, MO area where it meets the newly established “Al Foster” trail.
The history of this area goes back to ancient Native American times where this was one of the few pathways cut by nature over the centuries through the bluffs to the Meramec River area just beyond them. It is believed that traveling ancient Native Americans used this pathway for foot travel and also quarried flint here for the making of various tools and weapons.
In the early 1800’s a Ferry (boat) was operated at the bottom area of this passage at times where a ford was located in the river for settlers and travelers to cross the Meramec River to the other side where the Lewis family owned much of the land. The origin of the road name is unknown to historians even today.
Ninian Hamilton a settler from Kentucky was the first settler to occupy and own land in this area in 1803. After his death in 1856, James E. Yeatman a prominent St. Louis citizen, a founder of the Mercantile Library and president of the Merchants Bank acquired the large parcel of land that Mr. Hamilton settled and owned.
The Pacific Railroad completed their railroad line from St. Louis to Pacific along the Meramec River in this area in the 1850’s. Della Hamilton the wife of Henry McCullough, who was Justice of the Peace for about thirty years and Judge of the County Court from 1849 to 1852, was struck and killed by a train in this area in 1876.
The first large scale gravel operations on the Meramec River began at what would become Yeatman junction in this area. Gravel was taken from the Meramec River and moved on rail cars into St. Louis. The first record of this operation is in the mid-1850’s. Later, steam dredges were used, to be supplanted by diesel or gasoline dredges in extracting gravel from the channel and from artificial lakes dug into the banks. This continued until the 1970’s.
From about 1900 until about 1945, Glencoe and this area was one of the resort communities of the Meramec River’s clubhouse era. Many of the homes were summer clubhouses, later converted to year round residences then lost to the great local floods of the 1990’s.
Some say this is called Zombie Road because the railroad workers who once worked here rise from their graves at times to roam about. Some insist that they have heard old time music, seen anomalous moving lights and other ghostly sightings from that forgotten era. Another tale tells of a patient nicknamed “Zombie” who escaped from a nearby mental facility never to be seen again. His blood soaked gown was later found lying upon the old road later named after him.
Other tales include one of an original settler who met their demise upon the railroad tracks. Another includes a pioneer who lost his wife in a poker game then went back to his homestead and took his own life. Many still report seeing these lonely spirits even today.
During the age of Prohibition a nearby town housed speak-easies and the summer homes of well known gangsters. Tales tell of individuals who were dealt a bad hand by such public enemies resulting in their permanent placement within the ground or bordering river to never be seen again.
The bordering river has tragically delivered many to the other side through the years. Children and adults alike have taken their last living breath within its dangerous waters before being found washed up on its shores. Even during this new millennium, several children met their demise one day within its banks.
The railroad still shows “Death hath no mercy” as many have met their final fate upon its tracks. Local lifelong residents can still remember multitudes of tragic occurrences dating back to the 1950’s. One of these occurred in the 1970’s when two teens were struck by an oncoming train. Some of the local residents were used in search parties to find the body parts scattered about the area.
During the 1990’s a mother and her five year old child were crossing a bridge when an oncoming train met them. The mother’s last action was pushing her five year old child off the bridge. The engineer was able to stop the train and save the child. Although the mother died, this is still one of the happiest endings to a story this area will provide.
More recent past has seen this area become refuge for those wanting privacy to practice the occult and other rituals. Who can really know what true doorways to the darkness or unknown were opened here.
During the 1960’s a couple in their late teens were on top of the bluffs overlooking the road below. The male somehow lost footing and during the fall caught his face in a fork of a small tree growing out from the side of the bluff. His face and scalp remained while the rest of him fell to his death upon the road below. Others have also met their demise from the high bluffs above.
The area has also seen its share of suicides and murders. In the 1970’s a hunter stumbled across a car still running at the end the road. Closer inspection revealed a hose running from the exhaust pipe to the inside of the car with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.
One can agree that there is no lack of legends or tragedies surrounding this area which can explain the bizarre and eerie encounters of those who visit. I was one who became truly intrigued and attracted by such lore and was determined to either prove or disprove the Urban Legends surrounding it.
Within an hour several people observed a human sized shadow figure as it descended upon them from a small bluff nearby. It then ran onto the road, stopped, then disappeared into the darkness of the night. Throughout the night others heard unexplained voices, were touched by the unseen and witnessed the unexplained. This was one night that everyone could conclude that indeed some Urban Legends actually are real!

Ex-Condor Through the Time Machine (Chapter 1: The Docks)
April 1964
From the locomotive’s point of view, it was not a notably lively harbor. A ship’s cargo was being unloaded briskly enough onto one of the docks, but the cranes were not living, and there were no engines at all—the morning’s deliveries seemed to simply be piled into growing stacks on the quay. The trucks seemed mostly to be dozing, although there was a mild ripple of interest among them, as well as the men, who were on hand to see the diesel engine lifted down onto the tracks.
It took the crane operator several times to get it right. The locomotive set his face like flint. The process wasn’t comfortable.
He was afforded the privacy that rolling stock generally are, which meant that they talked about him, rather than to him, as they watched.
“Damn,” said a docker. There was respect in his tone. “He’s a monster.”
“Thought that thing was meant for our line?”
“Nah. There’s no way…”
“There is a way,” said another voice, this one crisp and interested. “He’ll run just fine on our tracks down here.”
“Since when are you an engine-man, Dex?”
“I was talking to Sid all about it.” Dex was gazing up at the locomotive in the air with real love. He wasn’t an engine-man and had no prospect of being one—but he was far from the only layperson on the island of Sodor to cherish such machines. “This beaut’s got five axles, you know, to divide all that weight. His class aren't hard on the rails at all.”
“Bit hard on the eyes, maybe.” To his credit, this commenter only mumbled his remark, but others elbowed him and called him a few names, for his rudeness.
There was some lazy, ironic applause, for the hapless crane-operator, when on the fifth attempt the diesel locomotive’s crew gave him the thumbs up, and D5702 was left on the tracks, next to the new refuelling equipment.
“All right, then,” hollered the foreman. “Get on with it!”
The workers dispersed, though Dex needed to be specially chivvied. He was very interested to see the locomotive crew’s doings. This was the first diesel to ever be seen at Brendam.
The preparations were quick and uninteresting. D5702 was fueled up—and felt much the better, for that, and for being on solid rails. It’s the rare engine who likes traveling by ship, and he wasn’t it. Then it was just little wiping, a little polish, a quick look and a single sign of the cross over the motor, and they got him started.
The drivers weren’t actually expecting the motor to turn over on the first try. They laughed a bit, at a loss, for they hadn’t yet found facilities, found the freight described in their orders, or even found their bearings. They’d reckoned they would have plenty of time, while cursing at their recalcitrant engine, to tag-team in and out and do so.
“Let’s get to it, though,” grunted the first driver. “Don’t know how long this will last, do we?”
“Foreman’s coming now,” said the second driver, looking over expectantly.
“Ace. Maybe he’ll point us in the direction of a guard.”
The foreman waved on his approach. “You lot are quick! You set to get moving already, old boy? Because if so, you’re my new best mate. I need some fresh trucks.”
D5702 froze, taken aback. He was used to requests or orders being addressed to his first driver, and was grateful when the latter stepped in. “Excuse me?” he said brusquely, coming to the right end of the cab.
It was an awkward little moment, that came full circle as the foreman blinked, then seemed to understand what was going on. “We could use him a tick before you’re off.”
The driver radiated skepticism and disapproval. It was so unsubtle that even his engine, who of course couldn’t see him, felt it.
5702 hesitated, but kept still quiet. On the one rail, he of course wanted to make a good impression.
On the other rail, he did not wish to be taken advantage of, either.
“You realize he’s not a shunter,” the driver called back, voice dry.
“Oh, he’s a big fellow, all right,” agreed the foreman, grinning at 5702 with appreciation. “But we’re in a bit of a bind here. Lend us a wheel for a turn or two, won’t you?”
“It’s ‘lend us a bogie,’” said another man, nudging him, “I think.”
5702 decided to speak up. He supposed the Sudrians might be making fun of the mainland men and their diesel novelty… but he did not suppose the situation would improve with more banter, and no action.
Besides, the steady thrum of his motor gave him a little heart. He had been so afraid that it might not turn over at all. “What can I do for you, foreman?”
“See that set of empties there? Bring ‘em over to dock one, please.”
5702 didn’t regret it, once he heard the frank relief in the foreman’s voice. This was no set-up, but a real job, fulfilling a real need.
His crew were inclined to grumble, within his cab, and as the second driver hopped out to spot them and to ensure they had clearance.
But Brendam Docks had been laid out quite ambitiously—perhaps too ambitiously, to 5702’s eye—but at least everything was laid out in nice long stretches, and it was not so very awkward to slink in and out of the sidings, after all.
Then, too, the dockers proved friendly, and buzzed indistinct appreciation for the new engine who had set straight to work after being put on the tracks.
“God knows I love our lads,” laughed a burly laborer, “but they’d still need another two hours to get checked and oiled and up to steam, and here’s our newcomer already making himself useful, minutes from the crane!”
“The future is diesel,” someone else joked.
“Knock it off!” Apparently seeing no humor in it, another docker elbowed one of the offenders roughly. “They’ll take away our steamies over any proper Sodor man's dead body!”
“Of course, Roddy,” someone else soothed. “But we do need some more locos, and no mistake.”
“‘Specially down our way!”
“Me, I vote we keep this one,” said another, giving 5702 a wave as he backed away.
“They haven’t seen him fail on the tracks yet,” first driver muttered to second. Of course, no one heard—except 5702.
Who might, otherwise, have started to feel a bit comfortable.
They drove 5702 away before any farewells, nor even further direction, could be given, peering out the cab on the lookout for their train. “That’s the one,” said second driver.
He hopped down to set the points, but the engine had his doubts.
“Are those ours?” 5702 asked his driver.
“We’re to take mixed freight, that’s the only mixed train prepared, it’s ours!” Driver spoke in mathematical tones. “Come on, Oh-Two, let’s not dawdle.”
“Yes, sir.” 5702 thought they had really better ask. But then, he had also never felt greater reluctance to risk annoying his drivers. He was surprised they had agreed to transfer with him—they had never shown any partiality to him, nor to his class—but, for all he had never much cared for them, he was that morning almost painfully grateful for their presence. Otherwise he’d be quite alone among strangers.
Decent, friendly strangers, so far.
Of course, he expected worse, when he encountered another engine.

gene lore time below the cut bc i love him
he’s the smallest of all my fully grown ocs, he’s around like 5’10 or so. the tallest is flint who is abt 8’0” ^_^
he was originally going to be a racer but he was too clumsy to do anything complicated, so he’s the water boy :3 but he likes his job!! it keeps him busy and he often stops to watch the races (he gets yelled at sometimes for this) (leave him alone)
he’s a redhead! red hair, freckles, and his eyes are like. gold i think
Tumblr media
i got inspo for him based off of this trolley :3
he is very much a jokester and tries very hard to brighten people’s days. he’s literally the embodiment of “there’s me” but if cb actually meant it when he sang that
he does have metal framing but idk i just never really designed it.. i think after it was said he wasn’t going to be a racer, a lot of his pretty framework disappeared :( not to mention that trolleys are rarely used as more than a tourist attraction nowadays so he is very much in disrepair
the grownups are all roughly the same age (20-25 or whatever the train equivalent is) and they were all pretty little during the events of stex, but gene has very vivid memories of going to the racetrack and being in complete awe at what was going on. he even got rusty’s signature!!
he’s in his head a lot and daydreams.. people have to snap him out of a daze a lot (mecore)
one time he dropped his stuff all over flint and tesla and had the most boyfail moment (scrambling to pick everything up, kinda making things worse, etc etc).. he was more scared of flint but it was tesla who almost tore into him LMAO
luckily it was just a misunderstanding but tesla for a second was full veronica sawyer with the “HEY!!! you!! pick that up, right now!” because she thought it was intentional (it was not)
he’s an only child (rip) which is kinda meant to emphasize how trolleys have gone out of style so they are very much not made anymore.. it’s like how arella has several little siblings because she’s electric and ✨✨mass production✨✨
anywho… idk im running out of things to write. thanks for tuning in, i really appreciate it!! ^_^

i’m trying so hard not to make hardcore angst bc the girlies have only existed for like 2 days but what if flint is like prone to getting into crashes (she’s big and burly so she has a bit of a hard time making sudden changes in movement) and then she gets into a crash that she just. can’t recover from and it ends her racing career real fast
which would mean tesla would probably become arella’s coach, or she would step back to take care of flint because hey, she Was a repair car at some point. idk i have so many ideas for them..
i might make it like a noncanon fic but i feel devious rn
