what if kidou was also a winged person but instead of being able to fly his a hela good swimmer because he has penguin wings.

ooh that's interesting!! I'd like to think that penguin wings and other "unconventional" types aren't more rare than any other type, but just due to there being waaay more usual wings than these, they seem to be really rare - and they're not the kind you usually flaunt around too much.

for Kidou.. what if his wings were deemed "useless" and "unnecessary" and he grew up hiding them with his cape? (since it's a world of soccer and not swimming) and only later (when joining Raimon?) he learned to let them be a part of himself and stop hiding them.

he never learns to be super expressive with them though (also due to him being not too expressive otherwise either), but maybe with a little help of intense emotions every now and then... and maybe he uses his wings to (playfully) smack others when they're being dumb? (and I'm not having the brain currently to figure out if the penguin wings could be used to some aerodynamic effect with soccer, but if that's possible, I think Kidou would figure it out and prove that they're not useless to him after all!)

Go era Kidou is confident and comfortable and open about his wings. since he doesn't need his wings to have the same range of motion as most do, I think he'd prefer coats with storm flaps or cuts imitating that for easy wing fitting, letting his wings move enough but not needing the specific fit for a full-range movement.

oh and yeah I think he enjoys swimming and he's really good at it! I think there could be separate water sports for people with water bird wings (diving birds and such), but even when Kidou likes to swim, it has never been really his passion (and he was pulled into the soccer world before he could really figure out where his interest truly lie).

It took so, long for you to get your balance back and learn how to function without them, but you’ve also resigned yourself to never having a mate because who, in their right mind, would accept a defect harpy like you? It is 5am and I read through the whole blog and I love love love the family dynamics and all the thought you’ve put into the lore and details 🩷 so! You’ve mentioned that if there aren’t any kids to make godkids, there won’t be any food for fairies. What do you mean by that? 👀

SO! Fairies feed on emotions, and different courts have different diets! The most common one is "desire". However, desires can't be harvested unless it's released from the human's body and becomes magic. The best way to do this is to have the person "Make a Wish".

This is why Fairies can't get desires from adults! Adults have a strong resistance to memory-tampering magic, which means their wishes are near impossible to grant if Fairies want to stay hidden.

After the wish is granted, the desire is removed and sent to the Big Wand. From there, desires leak out across Fairyworld, and fairies get to eat! It tastes best in the form of chocolate cake, I've heard.

Fun fact: Fairy Wings can be damaged or removed. Jorgen Vonstrangle doesn't have wings anymore!! He's a flightless fairy.

shoutout to the anon who sent in that ask bc i seriously fell in love with blue jay phoenix. SHOUTOUT TO TAKAHE PHOENIX TOO THO takahe phoenix, you will forever be in my heart and im glad you existed <3333,, (maybe in this au he’s got some loving adoptive takahe parents :3) (YKNOW WHAT YEAH that’s canon now)

but yeah, flight-avoidant jay phoenix still lends itself well to the common-man hardworking underdog vibe i want from him. speaking of flight-avoidant...

Phoenix's relationship with flying:

It's a bit complicated. Basically, Phoenix can fly, but he historically chooses not to. From the lack of any practice, he's an INCREDIBLY weak flier. (That hovering is really all he can manage)

For one, he's still afraid of heights. Can't help that. This fear means he was less inclined to practice flying, which made him a weaker flier. And being a weaker flier, in turn, made his fear of heights worse. And so on, in a loop. With flightless parents too (it's canon now it's canon), there's even less of a reason to learn to fly. At some point, not flying might've even become something he stuck with out of stubbornness lol, knowing Phoenix.

(I will soon be making a couple small world building posts, but) flying isn't necessary to get around in their society. Convenient, sure, but Phoenix realized he could make do without, and so he did. Phoenix, you icon. Slay. 💅💅

i know this probably isn't the popular take with wing AUs??, but Phoenix being flightless (or at least semi-flightless) sounded like a really fun take on the idea to me. His name is irony at its peak. I also look forward to exploring how other characters react to him not flying. The prosecutors are going to have so many cheap insult opportunities.

As I mentioned though, he still uses his wings a LOT, though. He's much more emotive with them than most people. His sarcastic inner-dialogue remarks are also betrayed by his wings lmao

I also imagine bird-folk never really invented bikes (riding would just be annoying with their wings, plus bikes aren't fast/efficient enough to outweigh just flying), so instead, Phoenix gets around on a little wing-powered scooter device (like scootaloo lol) (they're usually made for children who can't fly yet, but Phoenix still uses one)

finally, wow, stellar jay’s are quite literally just phoenix wright as a bird lmao? color scheme, hair, it’s uncanny. give it a pink tie and it just is Phoenix Wright, i used a blue jay since they’ve got a bit more striking wings but wow.

As the month passed, Grian slowly grew accustomed to his prosthetic.

After crash landing into Bedeyl—more specifically Scar’s house—and barely getting out of the wreckage in one piece, the Lydian assumed that he’d be flightless forever. Avians like him needed at least four wings to fly, and the crash left him with three. Scar was kind enough to let him stay and nurse him back to health, but each day was a constant reminder that he was now bound to the ground beneath him. He would no longer feel the exhilarating sensation of the cool breeze against his face as he dipped in the skies and flew above the clouds.

It was a painful reality to accept, especially for an avian like him, but Grian was ready to take on his new life as a flightless bird.

That was, until Scar walked into the bedroom after a long day of work and a fresh shower—and a protesthic. A new wing. His fourth wing.

Grian would hate to admit it out loud, but he did cry in Scar’s arms. He cried some more after he looked at himself in the mirror, because there he was. No longer a flightless bird. No longer a three-winged avian that was cursed to trek the lands instead of soaring through the air, where he belonged.

No amount of words or actions would ever be enough to describe Grian’s gratitude towards Scar.

Yapping time:

Kiran is selectively mute (as previously said)

Selective Mutism is a form of an anxiety disorder where it causes someone to be incapable of speech. They are usually someone who can’t speak in social settings, speak really quietly or softly (think of Fluttershy in the first episode of My Little Pony), or as someone who hides behind an adult/higher authority figure during highly social interactions.

(Oh, how is anyone going to hear Kiran at all?)

Silly! That’s something I’m still figuring out… just kidding!

Moths— while assuming they are quiet— still make noise! Moths make these tiny squeaking noises and they are absolutely adorable. So Kiran can make little speaking noises or sounds on occasions, but not all of the time.

Speaking of moths.. Kiran sadly can’t fly. Her wings weren’t developed properly since they’re too small, so she will remain flightless (for now?).

(What are their abilities in Operation Ichor?)

Well, Dandy’s World, I wanted Kiran to have this ‘goodies basket’ which increases the luck of rarer items appearing on the floors.

However, we are speaking on a world where survival is something to fight for and tomorrow is something you need to live to.

We’ll say that she’s got some sort of.. vision.

(You mean blindness?)

No!

Kiran has a wide peripheral range and can basically see a whole room without having to glance around a lot.

She is quick on her feet and very nimble with her hands. Sort of like a spidey-sense, y’know? Something feels a little off, and Kiran sort of just.. knows.

Think of it like the Guiding Light from Doors. In Kiran’s vision, their abilities pin-point a bit of visual imagery of people, the situation, what might happen or will if something isn’t done to fix it— that thing. It’s like a string that tugs her a long and beckons her to use it as a way to fight through. (Literally— string as in guiding and weaponry)

(Oooh, spiritual stuff).

The Pros

- She knows what’s going on and a vague idea on what to do

- Is able to help others

The Cons

- she doesn’t know what’s going on until it happens or at the last second

- paranoia/anxiety increased

- migraines and headaches

- blood pressure increased

- nightmares/sleep paralysis (glimpses of what could’ve happened if Kiran did something differently, etc.)

- decreased morality

Okay, however, Kiran isn’t going to worry about that for now.

Kiran is content welding and making weapons for scouts or those who need them. (She loves looking at concepts, figuring out old tech— taking them apart and putting it back together— and accommodating different gears to the user etc.)

I am more interested on the different field in Operation Ichor just because I want to know:

- How does each and every field operate? (Uniform policy, dress codes, rules, etc).

- How does Boxten A1 (I think) function as a leader in his field? (That is so I am able to adjust my character and understand the lore. Hopefully by the next chapter!)

aight. birb wing au, what're y'alls species/general headcanons for the batch.

personally as species go:

Hunter - Kiwi. Small, brown, fuzzy, can track things (fruit) really well. Also can't fly so it gives Wrecker a reason to toss him around. (Bonus points for being from NZ)

Wrecker - Harpy eagle or cassowary. Harpy eagles are the strongest bird of prey, they can carry off sloths. Maybe even a toddler. Cassowaries are big, scary, and flightless, which accounts for the fear of heights.

Tech - One of those iridescent magpies. Super smart and likes to collect random junk. Will do completely random stuff. Very neurospicy coded. Tech definitely collects shiny objects and will probably eat random stuff he finds on the ground.

Crosshair - Peregrine falcon or something. They're cool. Why didn't I go with a vulture? CAUSE I DON'T WANNA DRAW ALL BLACK WINGS. Super speedy AND has the fastest vision in the animal kingdom at 130 frames per second. For reference, a normal human is 50-60 fps.

Echo - sorry echo stans, I got no clue what he is

Omega - for some reason I see her as a pidgeon/dove. Small, innocent, just a lil birbo. Can be a nuisance if they don't like you, perhaps even deadly.

My only real idea is CROSSHAIR WITH CLIPPED/PINIONED WINGS. LIKE HEMLOCK DID THAT TO HIM. It's pretty low effort, will be really traumatizing, and makes escape attempts easier to catch.

Anyhoo. *makes grabby hands* Give me your headcanons.

I just found the fic that inspired this AU and the name of it “flightless wings”

I thought it was super cool and interesting how some birds can’t fly in certain conditions because of their wing shape which got me thinking about other wing types and birds

I still wanted to stay true to my original Inspo so I decided to call it “flightless wings”

Even though not everyone has wings, some people will have attributes of other animals, and the character I focus on the most, Tim, can fly, I still think that name is unique. Like, once you know about it the name will be recognised any time you hear it

Dragon Jayce and Viktor except rough drafts that I love/hate.

I’ll always be better at dragon AUs than anything else! So! Here is some random info about it:

- Viktor is probably not like. SMALL, but medium sized for a dragon. He’s kind of, feathery or whatever you want to call the dragon fluff, he’s got a weasel/raptor inspiration tbh. He was born wingless from the grey on top of other shitty mutations that cause his leg pain and overall sickness. (Similar to the show, just has a different kind of disability that limits him more than his human counterpart) He doesn’t have a crutch/cane in this universe since he can limp on three legs if the bad one is bothering him. His main problem is flying though. He works in a city in the sky after all. I think he has the same character development and all that. Though his relationship with others is a LITTLE different since his dragon disability is a bit more. Limiting? I imagine more frustration from piltovians since they think he doesn’t belong (for A LOT of reasons) in piltover. They think he makes their image look bad or whatever, because he’s like. A walking example of how badly they failed the other half of their city (and I think that goes for the show too tbh but this is more exaggerated) He also lacks the ability to breath fire but that’s not a big deal since most dragons don’t do that anyway. (He adds it to his list of new things he can do as Machine Herald though.)

- Machine Herald Viktor is essentially the same but he’s more driven in specifically helping Zaun compared to EVERYONE. (So Salo may or may not be part of his followers) He does have the hexarm still it’s just replacing his front arm instead of being an extra one. His wings are the main new bits that catch attention now.

- Jayce is pretty big for a dragon, but not full grown so he appears medium stil. He’s definitely “top heavy” so he can’t stand back on his hind legs like some dragons can. His dad is distantly related to Caitlyn’s dad. So. They’re very far removed family in this universe. Also that’s why his hair is bluish. His mom tried taking him back to piltover after his dad died and then the whole mage thing happened. So they’re technically foreigners even if his dad lived in Piltover once. Jayce is essentially a cliche dragon. The tusks are a little irregular though. Hehe. His season two injury is his wing and horn. The horn breaks which just. Causes really bad migraines every now and then if he doesn’t treat it. And his wing is permanently busted haha. Still has to climb the spire thing hehe. Also the weapons he makes might be different since dragons don’t really… NEED a gauntlet or hammer. Also, Jayce can breathe fire.

Also! Some notes on the architecture for Piltover (Specifically Piltover Academy) since I imagine it more like, a literal city in the sky.

Last thing is that I imagine grey (and shimmer in a very complex and weird way) mutates dragons to have no wings or dysfunctional wings so lots of Zaunites started giving birth to flightless dragonets (like Viktor, Ekko, Vander, Vi & Jinx, etc.) which is a big problem because both cities weren’t built with the idea that a dragon wouldn’t be able to fly to access points. As time goes on though Zaun has become more grounded and less in the air and Piltover has made the smallest changes for flightless dragons that come up. Other cities don’t have this problem though, such as Noxus, so most foreigners find it appalling that could even happen to a whole city.

IT'S HEERE!!! Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's been waiting and supporting the Harpy!AU. The first chapter is here! That said, I write my fics chapter at a time, so please be patient while I work on the next chapter and my other fics!

Summary: (Harpy!DCA AU x Reader) As your village's trader, you often travel to and from the inner city for various community members. On your way back one day, you go off course because you see something you don't quite believe— a supposedly abandoned harpy nest. You find out quite quickly that everything is not as it seems. Your once easy life is thrown into chaos as magic, soul bonds, and the consequences of actions, not your own begin to catch up to you. ———— ☼☽⋆｡°✧ ☼ ✧⋆°｡☾☼ ———— From Chapter One: At once, the harpy’s head turned toward your direction. It had a barn owl-like face with the eyebrow tufts of a screech owl. Its eyes blared red in the darkness, illuminating the rest of its face. Its body slowly turned to match the direction it was facing. Wide eyes met your figure, feathers puffed to look bigger— as if it needed to do so. The way the light hit its feathers made the harpy look a vibrant shade of royal blue. Flecks of yellow dappled the underside of its wings, like stars reflecting off water’s surface. You would have loved to draw a picture of how its red eyes landed on you.
