Starting to carve the hands! Aiming for speed here. It's ok if it is rough, because I want that woodcut look.

Lay design over cased leather and trace major lines with a ballpoint pen. Then carve with a combination of swivel knife and micro gouges (I like both Pfeil and Flexcut.) Additional details as you see fit and burnish flat to hide ragged ends.

I was originally going to repeat the design on the other glove, but I think I'll choose something different to keep from being bored. Plus, the Stranger does have some asymmetry going on.

Knifes for me are a means to an end, I use them for my crafting, but I do like knifes for their own sake too :3 my fun knife knowledge is that the sharper the blade the better, you don't hafta force it thru the wood nearly as much and if it does slip then the wound heals clean and quick

Lots of commercial knifes have a double bevel, meaning it slopes down towards the edge but then there's a secondary small slope right at the edge; I much prefer a single bevel knife as it's easy to maintain with my sharpenstones and strop

My favourite knife overall is my trusty Bahco Mora, I've had her for four years as a gardening knife and rough whittling knife and she's ever a delight in the hand 🩷

This is her and this is the strop I made for my smaller flexcut carving knifes, it's a piece of leather glued to a bit of ash wood which I apply stropping compound to and hone as I work

Yesterday I was whittling a cherry walking stick and stropped the Mora, her edge shaving-sharp with nary a few passes despite the hard timber I'm carving

This knife has that single bevel and it costs under $20nzd, for anyone who needs a knife for gardening or whittling -- my mainstays -- or I could see it being used for fishing or any number of knifetasks, I recommend this knife to lotsa people and the other day I was rehoning three at once cos my close folks all have em ^~^

I use my Flexcut roughing knife for the vast majority of all my carving.

I have a couple Flexcut detail knives, but I only use them if the roughing knife is too big to get into the area.

I also have a set of no name gouges I bought off eBay over a year ago. I use these when I need to gouge out the inside of an ear, the bat wings, or under the mushroom caps.

I've thought of getting a new knife, but I don't have any complaints with my current ones. So I haven't bought any yet.

I love Chicago's rich history, and this print is a symbolic ode to that history. Way back in 1933 Chicago hosted the 'Century of Progress' which is symbolized by the 3rd star on the flag. Integral to the construction of the various buildings and exhibitions were, elephants. Not only featured prominently in some of the art and ephemera from that event but also as workers helping to move trees and such to make way for the installations. I went down a rabbit hole. Progression of carving an Odin face pendant. This is a combination of a Norse Odin face and and Anglo Saxon Odin with his eagles. At some point in history there was a lot of intermingling of the two cultures. I've been exploring what transitional items might have come from the union of a Viking raider and a Saxon woman.
