Reposted from @block_prints Stoked to reveal the print I made for Spafford's show tonight at Park West up in Chicago this evening! I love Chicago's rich history, and this print is a symbolic ode to that history. Way back in 1933 Chicago hosted the 'Century of Progress' which is symbolized by the 3rd star on the flag. Integral to the construction of the various buildings and exhibitions were, elephants. Not only featured prominently in some of the art and ephemera from that event but also as workers helping to move trees and such to make way for the installations. I went down a rabbit hole. Reposted from @block_prints Spafford is on the road for their Winter 2023 tour and I am pleased to present the poster they asked me to make for it. I wanted to get into something a bit different for this one. Working through the different layers knowing I'd be getting photopolymer plates made really helped me to do some things I normally can't with the design. Using transparent inks over a base layer of metallic silver really makes this print change depending on the light source, and the overprinting brings a lot of depth. I must admit, I took some chances on this and in the midst of printing I did not know if it would work out the way I wanted it to. There are always surprises when working with ink like this and I am very pleased with the ones that presented themselves. Hope you all like it! Go see Spafford! <3 .
