Toward more flexible and rapid prototyping of electronic devices
Whether you are a new employee, a gymnast, or a bendy straw manufacturer, one trait is ideal across the board: flexibility.
The same can now be said about prototyping electronic devices. While designers typically test out their designs on "breadboards," or thin plastic boards that can hold together electronic components, they are often stiff and slow. With the rigidity of these electronic backbones in mind, MIT researchers have developed "FlexBoard," a flexible breadboard that enables rapid prototyping of objects with interactive sensors, actuators, and displays on curved and deformable surfaces, such as a ball or clothes.
To illustrate the platform's versatility on different items, researchers tested it out on kettlebells, video game controllers, and gloves, finding that sensors and displays can attach to the electronic components within each of its hinges. The team added sensors and LEDs to the kettlebells, which successfully detected whether users were applying the correct form to their swing workouts. In turn, the display indicated red if done incorrectly, or green if executed properly, as well as the number of repetitions. In the future, the platform could improve fitness routines by providing that feedback.

Quick Tips To Pick The Right Snowboard For You
There are numerous aspects to consider when selecting the best snowboarding mountains. There are several factors to consider, including weight, length and the flex. Each of these variables should be considered before making a decision. These are only a few tips that will aid you in making a decision.
Weight
The weight of a ski is one thing to consider while you're out on the slopes. Although some claim that they can carry around a snowboard in their bare hands, it's a different situation when it's strapped to your back.
There's a method to gauge that obscure piece of information. You first need to determine the type of snowboard you're contemplating. Next, you need choosing the best board for your riding style. A standard all-mountain snowboard is the most suitable choice, except if you're a serious freestyler.
You'll also need to find the right snowboard. What kind of snowboard would you prefer?
Length
If you are buying the best snowboarding places, the length is among the primary things you need to take into consideration. There are numerous kinds of snowboards. Each one has distinct lengths. A snowboard's length is measured from its top to its tail.
It is essential to consider how the length of your board will impact the performance of your snowboard. A shorter board can be more maneuverable, however a longer snowboard is more stable in high-speed conditions.
It's also useful to know the kind of riding you're going to do. Backcountry riders may prefer the longer boards, while freestyle riders will be more comfortable with a shorter one.
As with any type of board, you should be sure to choose one that's appropriate for your height and weight. This is particularly important for beginners snowboarder.
Sidecut radius
Sidecut radius is an important aspect to consider when purchasing an snowboard. Knowing how the snowboard turns depends on the sidecut radius is crucial. Knowing which type of sidecut will work best for you will help you make the most of the riding experience.
youtube
It is important to select the kind and type of riding that you're looking for when choosing the right board. The width of the sidecut will determine how fast and sharp the turns will be.
Freestyle-oriented snowboards have a shorter sidecut. This makes it easier to accelerate and initiate quick turns along the heel edge. These snowboards also allow you to make longer radius turns.
Or, you could choose to have a deeper sidecut. You can make longer arcing turn, however it can result in shorter turns.
Flexibility
While it is simple to imagine that a snowboard is a board, it is important to understand that snowboards have many different types of flexes. You will want to find the perfect flex for your requirements, and that's an individual choice.
A stiffer flexboard will provide more edge grip and better control over changing conditions of snow. A flexible board that is softer will permit you to lift the tail and then drop it when turning. You will be able to master tricks like buttering and jibbing with softer boards.
There are numerous possibilities for flexes, however the one that is best for you depends on your riding style, skill level, and body weight. If you're just beginning your journey using a board that is softer can be a great option to get your feet wet.
Freestyle vs. freeride
If you're considering the best all mountain snowboards option, it is important to understand the distinctions between freestyle and freeride. While both styles involve riding the mountain, they're different. Freestyle boards were created specifically for parks, while freeride boards can be used in a variety circumstances.
Both are great to ride on the mountain. In reality all-mountain snowboards are most popularand are specifically designed to handle a range of conditions better than freestyle boards.
A freeride board is usually an authentic twin, which means that the tail as well as tips are alike in shape. This lets you change positions more easily which is vital for numerous tricks. It also aids you in trying to remain balanced when climbing mountains.

Layoffs hit another Softbank co as $3.2B Flexport cuts 50
Fearing weak fundraising options in the wake of the WeWork implosion, late stage startups are tightening their belts. The latest is another Softbank-funded company, joining Zume Pizza (80% of staff laid off), Wag (80%+), Fair (40%), Getaround (25%), Rappi (6%), and Oyo (5%) that have all cut staff to slow their burn rate and reduce their funding needs. Freight forwarding startup Flexport that is laying off 3% of its global staff.
“We’re restructuring some parts of our organization to move faster and with greater clarity and purpose. With that came the difficult decision to part ways with around 50 employees” a Flexport spokesperson tells TechCrunch after we asked today if it had seen layoffs like its peers.
Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen
Flexport had raised a $1 billion Series D led by SoftBank at a $3.2 billion valuation a year ago, bringing it to $1.3 billion in funding. The company helps move shipping containers full of goods between manufacturers and retailers using digital tools unlike its old-school competitors.
“We underinvested in areas that help us serve clients efficiently, and we over-invested in scaling our existing process, when we actually needed to be agile and adaptable to best serve our clients, especially in a year of unprecedented volatility in global trade” the spokesperson explained.
Flexport still had a record year, working with 10,000 clients to finance and transport goods. The shipping industry is so huge that it’s still only the seventh largest freight forwarder on its top Trans-Pacific Eastbound leg. The massive headroom for growth plus its use of software to coordinate supply chains and optimize routing is what attracted SoftBank.
The Flexboard Platform dashboard offers maps, notifications, task lists, and chat for Flexport clients and their factory suppliers.
But many late-stage startups are worried about where they’ll get their next round after taking huge sums of cash from SoftBank at tall valuations. As of November, SoftBank had only managed to raise about $2 billion for its Vision Fund 2 despite plans for a total of $108 billion, Bloomberg reported. LPs were partially spooked by SoftBank’s reckless investment in WeWork. Further layoffs at its portfolio companies could further stoke concerns about entrusting it with more cash.
Unless growth stage startups can cobble together enough institutional investors to build big rounds, or other huge capital sources like sovereign wealth funds materialize for them, they might not be able to raise enough to keep rapidly burning. Those that can’t reach profitability or find an exit may face down-rounds that can come with onerous terms, trigger talent exodus death spirals, or just not provide enough money.
Logistics startup Flexport just raised a SoftBank-led round at a whopping $3.2 billion valuation
Flexport has managed to escape with just 3% layoffs for now. Being proactive about cuts to reach sustainability may be smarter than gambling that one’s business or the funding climate with suddenly improve. But while other SoftBank startups had to spend tons to edge out direct competitors or make up for weak on-demand service margins, Flexport at least has a tried and true business where incumbents have been asleep at the wheel.
