From The Flowers Told You by Fleur DuPont 1796💐
what will your character do..
(reblog and brainstorm, lovelies! u can also write drabbles with theseee )
if they're met face to face with their plot, with no warning?
if they're stressed?
if they're happy? who will they want to share it with?
if they're sad? will they go to anyone for comfort? if yes, who?
if they're forced into a life of death situation?
if they're being threatened?
if they're kissed by their ex?
if they're confessed to by someone who they had no clue liked them? (given, they're single or not)
if their lover betrays them?
if they're coughing up blood out of the blue?
if there's a strange presence in the room, and it feels ominous?
if they discovered a dead body?
^ if the dead body is their best friend? (great question to start and develop a plot)
if their enemy is at their doorstep, bruised and injured?
if they had to share a bed with someone they don't particularly hate? ahem
if they had to be fed by someone they didn't like/their crush?
if their partner-to-be? enemy? pulls them into a secluded and shushes them? (their bodies pressing and all that!!)
when asked to choose between their family and their lover? (given the circumstances of ur story)
when kissed on their head by their enemy after a near death experience?
if they're dancing with a stranger, and the stranger says 'stop dancing, sweetheart and you'll hunted. do u wanna die?' ?
if they find out the food that served to them has glass dust on it? (who is it served by?)
when being pulled into a hug when they most need it by someone they least expect?
when they have to hold someone they loved at a gun point? why would it even occur?
when they have to choose between their own life and their lover's?
when they've to give up something (of great importance to the character) to save their lover?

- Dicornil. Monsieur Dicornil.
- Dicornil. Signor Dicornil. D come Duc, I come Joachim, C come Capeto, O come Onesiforo, R come Riphinte, N come N e così via. - Dupont. Giusto? Per il signor Dupont? - Esattamente. da R. Queneau, I fiori blu]

Chopin’s Wardrobe — What I Wore
Today I would like to share with you all the manner in which I dressed. It is interesting to see how fashions have changed over the course of 200 years. Some might say style has slipped… Anyway! Here are some details on my wardrobe:
My Suit
I liked to wear sober colours: black, mauve, blue… and especially grey. For instance, I once asked Julian Fontana to have made for me a pair of dark grey winter trousers, without a belt, which were smooth and stretchy.
Grey trousers, 1840.
At a concert in Glasgow, a pupil recalled that I had worn a pale grey suit. Which included a frock-coat of identical tint and texture.
(Left) Frock coat, 1840. (Right) Frock coat and trousers, 1852.
Under my suit, I would wear a modest waistcoat in a fabric such as a black velvet with a tiny inconspicuous pattern, something very quiet and elegant.
(Left) Provençal waistcoat with mauve silk seedlings, 1860. (Centre) Waistcoat with floral pattern, 1838. (Right) Striped waistcoat, 1850-70.
My preferred shirts were ones made of cambric or batiste fabric. They had small mother-of-pearl buttons, two breast-pockets, and could be bought for 14 francs.
For my cravat, I would wear muted colours during the day. Usually, I would tie it in a bow. However, when performing in a formal setting, I would wear a broad, white silk cravat.
Winter Clothes
To keep warm in the winter months, I wore a thick redingote or over-frock coat, as can be seen in this daguerreotype of myself from 1849.
(Left) Wool coat, 1840. (Centre) Winter costume. Paul Gavarni, 1846. (Right) Frock coat. Wool, trimmed with silk velvet. 1820-1830.
At one point, my sickness rendered me so sensitive to the cold that I wore three flannels under my trousers.
Underpants, mid-nineteenth century.
Accessories
Because I had small feet, I often found shoes uncomfortable. I mourned the day, Moos, my shoemaker died. No one made my shoes like him.
1840s men’s shoes.
On my head, I would always have my hair curled, and, when outdoors, I would wear a top hat. I bought my hats from Dupont’s because he made them lightweight. They were originally made of beaver felt but, by my later life, they were made of silk plush.
(Left) Top hat made of beaver felt, 1830s. (Right) Top hat made of silk plush, 1850.
My outfit was only complete with white gloves. Without them one would not be in good taste. Kid gloves were common, but I also liked wearing Swedish (suede) gloves. Always in white.
Evening gloves. 1848.
A pocket handkerchief was also a necessity.
Finally, I had a miniature pocket watch. According to one concert-goer, it was “In shape no bigger than an agate stone, on the forefinger of an alderman.”
Where did I shop?
I bought my top hats from Dupont’s at No 8, rue de Montblanc (the previous name for rue de la Chaussée-d’Antin). I lived on this street myself, both at No 5 (1833-36) and No 38 (1836-38).
(Left) 9, rue de la Chaussée-d’Antin, the fabric shop across the street from the milliners, 1840s. (Right) Rue de la Chaussée-d’Antin, 1858-1878.
My shirts came from No 37 in the Palais Royal galleries, on the theatre side.
(Left) View of the Galerie d'Orléans in the Palais-Royal, 1838. (Right) Jardin du Palais Royal, 1840s.
The white suede gloves could be acquired from À la Corbeille de Fleurs, Houbigant’s shop at No 19, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.
(Left) The corner of rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, 1820-1840. (Right) Faubourg Saint-Honoré, 1814-1885.
There were also many shops along the Grands Boulevards. This is where I got my trousers made by my tailor, Dautremont.
(Left) Boulevard de la Madeleine, 1799. (Right) Boulevard des Capucines, 1830.
Boulevard des Italiens, 1840s (left), 1835 (right).
So…
As you can see, in spite my reputation for being picky and perhaps… prissy, with regard to fashion and furniture, I was far from what was called a dandy. My dress was never over-the-top and nor did I put on the airs that were so pertinent to dandyism. My desire, if anything, was to be refined and respectable. Although, perhaps my efforts to do so were occasionally cause for frenzy or distraction.

Folk Ways for an Acadian or French Canadian folk practitioner - Folk Spells
While Acadian and Quebecois societies didn't call these practices witchcraft by any means, these little prayers and moments of hope and action in situations where one lacks control over the outcome can be used in folk spells today. For safety disclaimers, do NOT consume plants you don't know, or water that hasn't been treated. And trust your doctor.
To ensure the bread rises well, do the Sign of the Cross over the proofed dough.
When you have bronchitis (apart from nowadays going to your doctor!), wear a red flannel shirt.
Keep a piece of the Host in your wallet to ensure you never go broke.
Keeping a rabbit's foot or a piece of snakeskin on you brings you luck and money.
Water gathered from a stream before the sunrise of Easter Sunday can be used to heal eye issues and other ailments.
May Water, which is gathered from the melted snow on the first of May, is blessed all year round, and can be used to bless or cure pretty much anything.
To avoid misfortune, a new bride must carry with her to her new home a fresh new broom and a box of salt. (In this day and age, anyone can do it!)
To avoid lightning strikes on your home during the year, preserve a piece of burnt wood or charred remains from the Christmas fire in your abode. It is also useful to send a prayer to Saint Barbara for this protection (which can be composed by you, or you can use the following traditional French prayer here): "Sainte Barbe et Sainte Fleur, protégées du Seigneur/ sur la croix de mon Sauveur, Où ce que le tonnerre ira, Sainte Barbe le conduira."
In folk medicine, when someone had a weakness about them, they were suggested to drink sea water. Do NOT do this! Instead, you can use sea water in a symbolic way, in any way you see fit that won't endanger your health.
Cultivating twigs of a spruce, fir, or cedar tree and arranging them in the shape of a cross, then blessed with Holy Water, is to be arranged on Palm Sunday and hung in every room of your house to protect against storms, shipwreck, disease and misfortune.

DuPont School for Monstrous Youths-Nathaniel Kurtzberg
Here’s our gargoyle artist, Nathaniel! Thanks as always to @imsparky2002 and @artzychic27!
Species: Gargoyle
Appearance/Attire: Light gray granite skin, ceramic teal eyes, shaggy red hair, bat like flap ears, Stone bat wings. Navy blue beret, red T-shirt with fleur-de-lis decal, knee-length black jacket, grey jeans, sensible brown boots, all with various paint splotches.
Bio: Those close to Nathaniel often jokingly describe him as ‘stone-faced’, due to his tendency not to show much emotion. Despite his mellow personality, he is a passionate artist with a gift for sketching and sculpture. He’s also quite snarky, always ready to combat nonsense with a deadpan quip. Being a gargoyle, he takes his job as a sentry very seriously, always looking out for his friends. One of the only people he really shows his feelings around is his boyfriend Marc, serving as the steady rock that soothes the ravenette when he’s nervous. He can also be more than a little stubborn, but what can you expect from someone made of stone?
Quotes:
"Best part about being made of stone? I can say whatever I want to Alix.”
"Nightlight, no one rocks my world like you do!"
“Oh God, not this crap again!”
“Being made of stone means you can hit HARD. Wanna keep testing me?"
"IVAN! DENISE. BEING MADE OF STONE DOES NOT MAKE ME A ROCK YOU CAN THROW. I WILL TAKE YOU DOWN! I DON'T CARE HOW BIG YOU ARE, YOU DO NOT SCARE ME!"
"Sorry guys, I gotta bounce! Time for my evening shift!"
He also likes to perch in high places, and DON’T bring up pigeons around him! Leave thoughts in the comments and reblogs!

poto rewritten short stories 6/6: meg the fooler
in honor of read an e-book week, i'll be sharing sneak peeks of the rewrite's first short story collection (which will be an e-book exclusive out this spring)! last but not least is meg and cecile being epic pranksters! ;D
...
The door creaked open…
“BOO!” Meg yelled, running out from the vanity.
“AHHH!” a dancer screamed as she put a hand on her heart. “You got me, Meg!”
Meg laughed. The foolee was none other than Cécile Jammes, her pranking partner. They had pulled many tricks throughout the years on the other dancers, the singers, the stagehands, the managers… no one was safe from their pranks on April Fools’ Day!
…No one except The Opera Ghost, that is.
“I have a little something for my partner in crime!” Meg said.
“Oh!” Cécile’s brown eyes sparkled as Meg handed her a little chocolate fish and popped it in her mouth. “Mmm, thank you. Are you ready to start?”
“I’ve been ready since last night!”
Cécile smirked and tossed one of her caramel brown ringlets over her shoulder. “I know exactly what we can do first.”
...
A few minutes later, chatter sounded through the ballerina dorm as the corps de ballet filed in. Some did stretches, a few lounged on the sofa, others sat at their vanities and some stood around to talk. Meg and Cécile waited near the back, hiding soft giggles behind their hands.
“Here she comes!” Cécile whispered.
Meg gave an excited squeak as Sorelli DuPont walked in. She rubbed a horseshoe on the wall for good luck.
“What in the world?” Sorelli looked at her horseshoe, which was covered with a rubber bathing cap! “Oh, I should’ve known…”
“April Fools’!” Meg and Cécile exclaimed.
Sorelli rolled her eyes. The jokesters looked over at Fleur, who sniffed a tulip… that sprayed her with water! Elena was brushing her hair at her vanity. She gasped as she realized that cold cream was on it! The lotion belonged to Colette... who smeared ketchup all over her face! Nellis opened her vanity drawer to find nothing inside except a paper fish and April’s paper nameplate had ‘Fools!’ written on it. The remaining seven ballerinas were pranked as well, leaving Meg and Cécile in stitches.
“I knew this would happen.” April said with a sigh.
“You two are almost as bad as The Opera Ghost!” Colette exclaimed.
“And just as delicious!” Meg added as she swiped some ketchup from her face.
“No one could ever be as great as that ghost. It’s-” Sorelli paused at Meg’s look. “He’s the greatest trickster in the opera house.”
“We may be great, but he’s the true master.” Cécile agreed.
Meg looked down at the floor as an idea sprung into her mind. She looked up, her eyes widening with a gasp as she exclaimed, “I got it! We can join forces with Mr. E!"
“Seriously? You want us to partner with The Opera Ghost?" Cécile asked with an uneasy frown.
"Yeah! The Ghost is a bit scary, but Mr. E is perfectly fine. He has access to every corner of the opera house, so..."
Sorelli groaned. "Great. You'll be unstoppable.”
"Oui... unstoppable!" Cécile exclaimed with a grin. "Let's do it!"
Meg cheered. "This will be the best April Fools’ Day yet! I'll go get him!"
She ran down the dressing room hallway, stopping at the very end. She put her ear to the door and listened.
"Meg woke me up by putting my hand in cold water," Christine was saying. "It startled me so much! One of her many tricks for today!"
"What's today?" Erik asked.
Meg wanted to shout, 'April Fools’ Day!' but she let Christine say it instead.
"Ah, yes. One of the best times of the year for The Opera Ghost," Erik chuckled. "Ayesha likes it, too. She stretched out on my legs and I sat up to pet her... and then she started walking towards me. She was going to lay right on my pillow! I caught on and laid back down before she could, but she found a nice spot next to me."
Christine giggled. "Oh, how funny! She nearly tricked you!"
"Sounds like she'd be the perfect kitty prankster!" Meg exclaimed as she ran into Christine's dressing room.
Erik looked up. He was doing a mirror chat with Christine, who looked over her shoulder at Meg.
“Then we’d have three tricksters scurrying around!” she realized with a chuckle.
“More like four.” Erik added with a wink.
“That’s exactly why I’m here,” Meg said. “Meet Cécile and me on stage after practice, Mr. E!”
Erik frowned. “Can’t I just meet you?”
“Nope. I don’t prank alone,” Meg smiled as she added, “Cécile won’t be scared of you, I promise.”
She went up to the mirror and held out her pinkie, getting a confused look from Erik.
“That’s a pinkie promise.” Christine explained.
“It is!” Meg agreed. “It’s one you can’t break.”
Erik looked at Meg’s pinkie before slowly lifting his own.
“There you go! It’s a date! But not the ones you and Christine go on!” Meg said, giggling at Erik and Christine’s rosy blushes.
...
Meg sighed as she stood on her tip toes and tried to peek into Box Five. It was eleven-forty on the dot. Ballet practice had ended not too long ago and now she and Cécile were waiting on stage.
“He should be here by now!” Meg said impatiently.
“Maybe he doesn’t want to partner with us,” Cécile hoped as she fiddled with her coral ring. “Let’s think of some more pra-”
Just then, the chandelier lights went off! Cécile’s scream echoed through the theater. Meg jumped a little, but she wasn’t afraid.
“The electricity’s gone out!” Cécile exclaimed in a panic. “Let’s fetch the managers!”
“Or you could fetch The Opera Ghost.” a voice said.
The lights returned and a shadow stepped out from Box Three.
“Mr. E!” Meg exclaimed happily. “I thought you’d be in Box Five!”
“Got you, Little Miss,” Erik said with a smile. “Consider that an April Fools’ gift from me.”
“The greatest gift would be partnering with us!”
“As long as you’re not creepy.” Cécile added.
“Oh, that’s only The O- Opera Ghost. Y- You won’t need to worry about creepiness with me,” Erik reassured her. “Y- You’ll just need to w- wo- worry about all the sneaky tricks we’ll pull.”
Cécile’s fearful face was replaced with a sly one.
“So you’re in?” Meg asked.
“Yes, Little Miss,” Erik smirked. “I’m definitely in.”
#dun dun dunnn#because it's the last day this preview is a little longer than the others#this is the last story yet the first one i wrote! ;)#meg and cecile love their pranks! ;D#it's even better when the opera ghost pitches in... ;)#poto rewritten

We Are Such Stuff That Dreams Are Made On || Sofie
Timing: 3 Centuries worth of memories
Parties: Sofie @sofiedupont
Summary: Sofie doesn't dream at night, so she remembers instead
Content warning: Mentions of blood, mentions of murder, mentions of death, mentions of war
Sofie didn’t dream when she slept anymore.
She hadn’t found herself in the soft haze of a dream in nigh on three centuries. So instead, in the small hours of the morning when the sun peaked up from behind the horizon, she chose to remember.
She remembered Gdansk, just barely. She remembered the names of her parents, but not their faces. She remembered she had siblings, but she did not know what happened to them or their descendents. Or if they even had descendents to speak of. She hoped they did. She liked to think they all had lovely marriages with beautiful healthy children, and descendents as countless as the stars. She hoped one of them was named after her.
She remembered the language though. She remembered the things her matka taught her. To cook and clean and sew- the things to do to appease the domovoi and the kikimora, to keep the household spirits happy. She remembered what it was to be Zofia, even if the lines of what that meant had begun to blur with time.
She remembered the night she died. She remembered how beautiful they all were, her mistress’s friends from France. She remembered the strange tug in her chest. A yearning, perhaps. To be collected by them like her mistress collected friends. She remembered how mad it all sounded. That she would have to die to live forever. But she had heard stories of men who rose from the dead, and promises of eternal life. She had heard the tales of creatures like phoenixes who had to go up in a glorious blaze to begin again. If she had to die in order to become the creature she had always been meant to be, then so be it. She remembered that determination more than anything else. That desperate need to be more than just a ladies maid for the rest of her life.
She remembered the first time she saw where they lived. She remembered the radiant smile on Seraphine’s face- her sire- the first time she saw it in all its splendor. She remembered what it was like to have to invent this curious new creature, Sofie DuPont. She remembered having to learn a new language. The new sounds were clunky and foreign on her tongue at first. Her accent bled through, and it took a long time for her to step fully into her new life.
She remembered that first party. The gorgeous gown Seraphine had commissioned for her. The jewels that dripped from her neck and ears, the tiara they’d settled in her hair. She remembered the feel of the crystal glass against her lips, the sweet taste of the blood that sustained her now. She remembered the fizz of her first glass of champagne as the bubbles hit her nose. She remembered the swell of the music, the rise and fall of the violin. She remembered the feel of the silk of her skirts as she danced and danced, Henri twirling her around the floor. She remembered thinking I am the princess in the fairy tale I dreamed of.
She remembered the passing of time. She remembered how days turned to weeks turned to months turned to years and before she knew it, a century had passed. The music had changed. The art had changed. The fashion had changed. And there was always more. More, more, more. More parties, more ideas, more friends, more family, more music, more dancing. An endless rush of excess accompanied the passage of time, and Sofie loved that most of all.
She remembered the world was at war. She didn’t know what to make of that. But it was safe with the Fleur de Sang. It was safe with Seraphine and Adrien and Henri. Her little family. Nothing bad ever happened to them, so why should she worry? It would be the four of them forever.
She remembered the first time Henri mentioned America. The war had just ended and everything was coming back from the dead, just like she had. New art forms were popping up, new dance styles, new music, new plays, new literature. And America seemed as good a place as any. Why would they stay in one place forever, when they had a whole world to explore!
And it began again. The endless flow from the vein of more that Sofie drank from almost as much as she drank her salvation from the crystal glasses her family always drank from.
She remembered noticing the letters from home grew fewer and further between. She remembered that she hadn’t heard from some of her friends in over a decade. She remembered thinking it odd one night when Seraphine, Adrien, and Henri had gone to the opera without her. It was a Wagner work, and she had always loathed that particular style of singing. Too forceful. She remembered telling Seraphine, long before that night.
She remembered Henri running into her room a wreck. A bloody, tear stained wreck.
She remembered the breaking feeling in her chest as they hurried to pack. She remembered the tears that wracked her body as they stole away in the night.
She remembered the songs on the car radio as she waited for Henri to come back. Gladys Knight faded into Jim Croce faded into Diana Ross faded into Elton John until the noise faded into the background when she realized it had been hours, and the sun was only an hour away from rising.
She remembered turning off the radio when she realized Henri was not coming back.
She remembered how hard it was, the first time she was well and truly starving. The smell of the people around her, the blood in their veins making her rabid.
She remembered the shocked expression on the man’s face when she sank her teeth into his neck. She remembered the fear that gripped her when he no longer drew breath. She remembered not knowing what to do and running for her life, praying no one saw.
She remembered realizing that she was no thing of beauty. No devine everlasting being.
She remembered realizing she had become a monster.
She remembered finding ways around the hunger. She remembered raiding hospitals in the dead of night, taking what she could of their supplies. She remembered being tucked away in a small abandoned house she’d found, drinking from the donations of good hearted citizens.
She remembered the fear that gripped her every time she went back home to get her belongings. She knew that it wasn’t safe, but what did she have other than the memories attached to those items? She remembered thinking this must be what rock bottom feels like.
She remembered realizing that this wasn’t living. That this wasn’t what she had been made for.
She remembered how much value old things had.
She remembered making the plan to start anew.
No, Sofie didn’t dream when she slept anymore. What need did she have for dreams? She had lived her dreams, and her nightmares too. Her remembrances were all she had now. The reminders of how to live, how to survive. How to build her own dreams. How to die and come back from the dead.
She’d done it once, and she’d do it once again. And heaven and hell help whatever waking nightmares stood in her way.
