the days were growing longer whilst simultaneously melding into one another, and time was a very wearing thing on his feeble form. each tock of the clock, every shift the sun made, elicited another chime from the reaper's bell. ianthe had been sparing with her presence as of late. the sovereign came and went as she pleased, most likely cooking together some new plot for whatever grand scheme she had planned ( never bothering to let poor marlowe in on the details, only ever dragging him into the fallout ).

without his great protector there to incite fear in the other folk, the lone merman had been forced into isolation. folded in on himself beneath the shadowy waters of skull rock, marlowe wasted away. days felt like weeks felt like an eternity, and, soon, his bones would be stripped of their porcelain flesh and laid to rest, unrecognizable from the mass that already littered the sea floor.

She wasn't gone for long and when she returned to them Anouk laid out the three large scallop seashells in a line on the smooth rock before them. She held up a pearl and explained, "I'll place the pearl under one of the shells and then I'll shuffle the shells around as fast as I can. You try to keep track of which shell has the pearl underneath it and if you get it correct, you win. Would you like to try it?"

With the evening breeze comes along a curious Fletcher, hopping from one place to another, caught up in their own little world. The sun had been high over Neverland when they departed from their tree, thinking to themselves that they’ll just head out for a quick little adventure to try and stir up some inspiration.

Now, the sun is half set over the horizon, the sky alight with pink and orange hues. However, Fletcher’s attention is firmly on the ground. The bag they had brought with them was almost ready to burst, clinking and clattering as they moved. Rocks, petals, twigs - anyone else would think it a collage of nonsense. Not Fletcher. Each of these things had the potential to be made into something beautiful.

Their outing had taken them quite far from home. They didn’t realise until they found themselves sifting through the sands of one of Neverland’s beaches. A delightful place, great for glass and other little treasures from the sea. A discovery was made - not anything they could grasp, but a discovery nonetheless - prints, left by something living. Fresh, not yet washed away by the tide nor blown over by the winds. With a playful smile, they begin to follow the prints, gleeful to solve the mystery of who made them. Their wings let off gentle chimes as they followed the trail. Eventually, the prints came to a stop.

Now, what have they got here?

boring. it was the only word to describe such a day, as were most days upon neverland as of late. even with the long-awaited passing of that dreadful winter, the inhabitants had yet to return to the antics he found so entertaining : battle & bloodshed. though he was far too apathetic of mortal lives to take sides on the eternal feud between boy and pirate, he could not deny the satisfaction the filled him with every sailor’s body that sunk beneath the waves. 

lounged upon a large, smooth rock, basking under the sun’s warm rays, rustling broke his serenity. a huff of annoyance escaped marlowe’s downturned lips, his eyes lazily peeking open to see who had disrupted his pleasant isolation. it took his weak eyes a few moments to catch sight of the small creature as it flitted to-and-fro. smallfolk mattered little to him. they were too small to eat and to delicate to play with, leaving them utterly useless to the merman. still, he was awake now. why not get back at the puny creature for its impudence ?

quietly, he slithered into the waters like a serpent. in a flash he had crossed the short space, rising — just enough that only his eyes could be seen over the water — not far from where the fae lingered. marlowe waited for the creature, who was preoccupied by whatever trinkets or things it had discovered, to foolishly float closer. he waited waited waited . . . SNAP ! a pale appendage flew out of the water as spindly fingers snatched at the smallfolk, missing them by centimeters. a dark, rumbling chuckle vibrated in his chest.     “ so close, “     he mused.     “ a shame, really. your tiny bones would have made for the perfect toothpicks. “

THE WINTER BREAK TRIP

Thanks to THE SOCIAL BUTTERFLY's genoristy and continuing presence at the center of all social circles, all students who were close to THE GOLDEN GIRL (or at least appeared to be and maybe some mistakes) have been invited out to the Hamptons. It's the offseason - so whilst many people are jetting off to ski resorts or warm islands, the beaches are deserted, quiet, and covered in snow.

Perfect to celebrate the end of a year - and most importantly, honor Greer's life, of course.

falling back into the water, a chuckle bubbled around him. he had felt nothing but hunger for days, a cavernous feeling in the stomach that he’d become familiar with years ago. being a merman was not fair. he was slow and spindly and weak in all the wrong places. by the time he’d targeted a meal, one of his sisters would have her fangs bared into it whilst eyes mocked him with amusement. still, fear could be just as satisfying as skin or blood or bone. to marlowe, at least, the satisfaction that came with striking fear in the heart of something was enough to satisfy and distract from all else that ailed him.

he rose from beneath the lagoon once more, eyeing the smallfolk curiously as they tittered on about this-and-that. he found the miniature creatures entertaining, like little bugs he could collect. some were better-liked than others, the ones that had things to offer. carrion sold him secrets. holly fed him puppets. thorn was his dear friend pet. this one though, sweet fletcher, was a crafty thing. he’d come to observe that what strength they lacked in size was made up for by the ideas overflowing in their head.     “ i suppose that will have to do, since you so selfishly wish to keep your own all to yourself. “,     marlowe grumbled, only half joking.

as far as they know, tea’s intended purpose has always to be a knowledge machine

they were commissioned by two scientists that always holed themselves up in the lab, their research extensive and grueling and often too much for just two people

they weren’t married, weren’t dating, and didn’t even intend to be together at any point, but the prospect of raising a child to help with their work was too enticing, and so they decided they wanted one

tea’s childhood was fairly bleak and robotic; the scientists each taking on the care of the little being that they decided to bring into the world, but they never knew how to properly show them love or affection

and so tea just existed the only way they knew how: by learning through science and jumping in whenever they could

tea’s “parents” never bothered to send her to school, instead hiring a tutor to come to their home in the middle district so they could have extra time in the lab

their tutor was the only one who ever bothered to show tea affection, taking it upon herself to show them that there was more to life than just science

tea took to the attention quickly, attaching themselves to her like a mother and child, and her tutor never seemed to mind, always making sure that tea’s parents had their attention when needed

as tea got older and her work in the lab became more involved, there came a time when her parents decided she no longer needed her tutor, and that day devastated her

she was only eighteen years old at the time, and she had no friends beyond the one person who had been with her for years, and so tea shut down for a while

they became cold and robotic, only answering questions if they pertained to the research she was doing, and not allowing anyone to become super familiar with her

and so tea made the decision to move out on their own; they had no outside world experience, and their only source of income came from whatever their parents were working on, but they figured anything would be better than where they were

it took a while before they got to a stable place in life; they had to watch and learn other people to even understand them in the first place

but it was also around this time that tea took up a job with frankie spiegel, almost working as their assistant in some ways

the environment was friendly and relaxing, and in more ways than one, tea finally felt like they were at home

they’ve been working with frankie for a few years now, often conducting their own research into whatever piques their interest the most (currently it’s storm pattern)

tea’s overall personality can be very flat, but it’s mostly because she’s still trying to learn how to socialize properly

born to a recently married couple, fletcher is the oldest of three - and she never lets her siblings forget that. she's the oldest so that means that she's in charge. now, does that mean that sometimes she's arguing with a middle schooler as a grown woman? okay, and??? AND???

there hasn't been a moment in her life that fletcher has gone without anything she wanted. a quick bat of her eyes and her dad would cave. this isn't something that has changed as she's gotten older. who do you think is footing her tuition bill, her rent, and the payment on her car?

she works at main squeeze and hates it, but it's the one condition benjamin has on supporting her. she does the bare minimum. minimum wage, minimum effort!! (her coworkers aren't exactly her biggest fans)

the main reason she's stayed within academia as long as she has at this point is because she thinks that it's easy. she's going after her doctorate in gender and sexuality studies. she doesn't know what she wants to do with it.

Elle’s Unsolicited Commentary on BOSJ 30 Night 1

WHAT A SHOW. BELOW LIE THE COMMENTS I RANTED INTO MY PHONE AS I WATCHED, HOPEFULLY PROPERLY EDITED THIS TIME XD

Match 1 - Clark Connors vs. Kevin Knight: okay so my first thing is that when the bullet club music and it wasn't Ace I was sad because like my mind is just triggered to react to the "BULLET CLUB 4-4-4-4-LYFE" being Ace and Bey because I am an Impact girlie at heart. Also I'm sorry I still can't take Clark Connor seriously in Bullet Club mode. Will I get there are some point? TBD. Why is Kevin Knight's title upside down also how do he and Kushi see in those sunglasses. The way that members of the crowd laughed at Clark when he shouted "WHAT?" at them - it was a fun moment,  good fun heel work, ya know? Clark winning this match makes sense because it boosts his credibility as BC's newest member. Gedo, oh Gedo, why must you introduce a chair. Also why didn't Kushi come help Kevin :(?

Match 2 - Taiji Ishimori vs. Ryusuke Taguchi:  Taiji, I love you, I do, but that hat and the mask are just not it (to me, to each spider their own web). Yes I love Taiji but I am rooting for Taguchi to win unironically. Can't be mad at Taiji for winning, but rooting for Taguchi in the next one. I'm surprised he kept his promise longer than 30 seconds this year...

Match 3 - Dan Moloney vs. Bushi: skipped (no hate to either, I just only have so much time to fit nooj in)

Match 4 - Douki vs. Kushida: I just let out the dreamiest actual chin resting in hand sigh when Douki came out - the silver and black look on him is just chef's kiss I just WOW. Kushida, I'm so sorry you know that I love you but I must root for Douki. Very important Douki update THERE ARE SPARKLES ON HIS PANTS. Also I should probably mention the onion? That is part of commentary today? The crowd cheering for Douki has me emotional also it does appear we may have disheveled-hair-out-of ponytail-Douki, so I must thank Kushida for that. Douki's reversal on that submission! Avert your eyes his nosey is out I repeat HIS NOSEY IS OUT and he's in a double wrist lock so he can't cover it back up! This just in Douki is actually trying to kill me at the end of the match where after he gets the pin he rolls back and there's a close-up shot of him with disheveled hair like coming out of his ponytail while dramatically moving his arms in victory which emphasizes his biceps and also looking like he's suffered. Post match, first of all I love the little lyrics with the Just Five Guys song that's hilarious, second, DOUKI VICTORY 😭😭😭

Match 5 - Akira vs. Wato: Commentary mentioned Ace Austin and it hurt me stop mentioning Ace if you're not going to give me Ace. I'm not saying the timing of me saying that into my phone and then Ace posting on Instagram is like a thing but it is kind of funny. Also my son  Wato should be allowed to kill anyone he wants. We have the Young Lions acting as human guardrails which is a like that makes sense and glad they're doing it hope they stay safe also kind of adorable and funny and also also because Kyle Fletcher has a feud with guardrails does this mean he has to fight the Young Lions? The reversals and counters at the end of this match were really really fun also I love a win for my son.

Match 6 - Lio Rush vs. Sho: Sho coming out with the definitely not a wrench in a handkerchief. Classic. Also, I appreciate his dedication to the Yugioh card aesthetic with that jacket. Two things - first, Sho immediately breaking his promise to play things clean? Hilarious. Second, Kevin Kelly going "YOU LYING ASSHOLE" or whatever like that's me, XD. I ended up skipping to the end of the match but I do love that Lio won.

Match 7 - Yoh vs. Robbie Eagles: ZSJ's son coming out with Robbie Eagles is very cute. Said son also needs to stop with his cute little smile. Was not ready for sassy Yoh was not ready for sassy Yoh WAS NOT READY FOR SASSY YOH. Yoh's calves are visible his calves are visible why can I see his calves??????  Okay he just took his ring jacket stuff off and he's wearing shorts made entirely of Jean Pockets I think and also cute little fringed armbands. Yoh doing the air guitar and then throwing it to Tana was very cute. My poor Yoh :(

Match 8 - TJP vs. Titán: skipped Good for Titán on the win!! Also I am shocked that TJP gave him a high five (most reluctant slap of hand when offered a handshake ever but STILL).
