Prepared Fiber--all of this is prepared by me :) the following 4 are cheaper as I can ship them in normal envelopes
Tumblr media
A: 0.14 oz, combed top. Blend of bfl, tencel, tussah silk, corriedale, merino. Very soft and shiny. $8.
B: 0.11 oz, combed top. Blend of tussah silk (black) and mohair locks (green). $8
C: 0.22 oz, combed top. Same blend as A, just a lot more of it and in different combos. Distinct gradient from one end to the other. $10
D: 0.4 oz, rolag (made on blending board). Tussah silk, mohair, and bfl. Very squishy and fine. $13
Tumblr media
E: 0.29 oz. Rolag, wool and cotton blend. Even more stripes of color under the surface. $13
F: 0.51 oz. Rolag, wool blend with some Angelina. Purple underneath. $15
Tumblr media
G: 4.75 ounces. Rolags (many many rolags). Blend of various wools; some fibers are not quite next to skin soft, but overall it's a soft blend. Mix of red, orange, white, purple, and black. $45
Tumblr media
H: 1 ounce. Washed longwool fleece (breed unknown). Dyed by myself with onion skin. $10
I: 1.2 ounces. Southdown flax blend, predrafted from rolags. Could potentially make up to 6 ounces total of this. $18
FLEECE
Tumblr media
J: 6 ounces. Washed jacob lambsfleece. Very soft for a jacob, large bits of vm (was able to get it out with hand cards). $20
K: 5.5 ounces. Hampshire with 2+ years growth, washed fleece. Definitely an odd fleece, not like your usual down breed. Has vm; washed it multiple times but still looks gross--I've found its almost impossible to get totally clean before it's yarn. Recommend combing, spinning, then washing. Nice and soft. $25
L: 7.5 ounces BFL cross. Very soft and with good luster. Some vm, was able to remove with hand cards. $25
M: 4.75 oz. Jacob x Border Leicester. Good luster, warm brown tips. Nicely soft. $20
SPINDLES:
Tumblr media
1: thin spindle (7 inches long). Good for cobweb weight but can achieve thinner and thicker. Birch wood with woodburning. $80
2: thick spindle (7 inches long). Good for laceweight but can achieve thinner and thicker. Wood type unknown (some sort of fruit tree iirc). No woodburning due to lots of wormholes and spalting which provide their own visual interest (they don't cause problems spinning don't worry). $60
3: thick spindle (6.5 in long). Good for laceweight, can spin thicker and thinner. No clue on wood type. Woodburned on most of the surface, the rest has wormholes again. $90
BAGS
Tumblr media
4: handblended handspun handknit drawstring project bag, 20 inch circumference. Cord is handspun flax. It's folded in half in the bigger picture. $90
5: handblended handspun handknit pouch. Don't remember the circumference but you can compare to the other bag. Body is entirely southdown babydoll wool. Handle is handspun icord. $75
Tumblr media
HANDSPUN YARN
6: 4 oz, 325 yards. Hand blended and handspun. Alpaca, wool, silk, silk noil, angelina. 2 ply fingering weight. Very textured. $65
7: 5.75 oz, 572 yds. Merino and silk blend, 2 ply, dk weight. Blended for a triangle shawl, stripes get longer as you go. Very soft, shines very beautiful in the light. $115
Please DM if you're interested--first come first serve. I take payment via ko-fi.

So I recently went to two fiber festivals and now have six fleeces in my house that are varying degrees of stinky and need to be processed. I have a project deadline coming up, so of course my brain decides now is a ~great time~ to procrastinate and wash a stinky fleece!
Tumblr media
Here is a Jacob fleece that I picked up for the sole purpose of seeing if I could spin each color in the coat separately, then weave it back together into something with both colors. I took lots of video of the washing process but Tumblr mobile is a nightmare so I'm going to have the stick with stills.
The first step was separating the black and white sections from each other. I couldn't remember if the fleece had been skirted (had all the really horrible bits and poop removed) because I bought it in a novelty-induced dopamine haze, but it turns out it was! So that was lucky. I ended up having a lot of locks that were both black and white, so I made a third pile of mixed locks that I didn't feel like separating further.
Tumblr media
Next was the washing/scouring, which I did in a plastic tub in my backyard. The fleece wasn't incredibly dirty but still immediately released a bunch of brown muck in the water when I submerged it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wet fleece!!
Tumblr media
I did two 20-minute soaks with the hottest tap water I could get and Power Scour (I actually have more of that than Dawn dish soap in my house rn), then a 20 minute rinse soak in hot water. I spun it out and laid it out to dry on this nifty herb drying rack thing.
Tumblr media
It was dry enough to work with today and I couldn't resist combing out some of each color. I think it looks pretty neat!
Tumblr media
I think I'm going to comb the rest of the fleece because I really like spinning from combed top, and I'll probably make it worsted for easier weaving. I'm waiting on the final weights of each color before deciding what draft to do.

06-07-23 Why Patagonia helped Samsung redesign the washing machine
Samsung is releasing a wash cycle and a new filter, which will dramatically shrink microfiber pollution.
Eight years ago, Patagonia started to study a little-known environmental problem: With every load of laundry, thousands (even millions) of microfibers, each less than 5 millimeters long, wash down the drain. Some are filtered out at water treatment plants, but others end up in the ocean, where fibers from synthetic fabric make up a surprisingly large amount of plastic pollution—35%, by one estimate. Fragments of your favorite sweatshirt might now be floating in the Arctic Ocean. In a collaboration that began two years ago, the company helped inspire Samsung to tackle the problem by rethinking its washing machines. Today, Samsung unveiled its solution: A new filter that can be added to existing washers and used along with a “Less Microfiber” cycle that Samsung also designed. The combination makes it possible to shrink microfiber pollution by as much as 98%.
[…] Patagonia’s team connected Samsung with Ocean Wise, a nonprofit that tests fiber shedding among its mission to protect and restore our oceans. Samsung shipped some of its machines to Ocean Wise’s lab in Vancouver, where researchers started to study how various parameters change the results. Cold water and less agitation helped—but both of those things can also make it harder to get clothing clean. “There are maybe two ways of increasing the performance of your washing machine,” says Moohyung Lee, executive vice president and head of R&D at Samsung, through an interpreter. “Number one is to use heated water. That will obviously increase your energy consumption, which is a problem. The second way to increase the performance of your washing machine is to basically create stronger friction between your clothes . . . and this friction and abrasion of the fibers is what results in the output of microplastics.” Samsung had already developed a technology called “EcoBubble” to improve the performance of cold-water cycles to help save energy, and it tweaked the technology to specifically tackle microfiber pollution. “It helps the detergent dissolve more easily in water so that it foams better, which means that you don’t need to heat up your water as much, and you don’t need as much mechanical friction, but you still have a high level of performance,” Lee says. The new “Less Microfiber” cycle, which anyone with a Samsung washer can download as an update for their machine, can reduce microfiber pollution by as much as 54%. To tackle the remainder, the company designed a filter that can be added to existing washers at the drain pipe, with pores tiny enough to capture fibers. They had to balance two conflicting needs: They wanted to make it as simple as possible to use, so consumers didn’t have to continually empty the filter, but it was also critical that the filter wouldn’t get clogged, potentially making water back up and the machine stop working. The final design compresses the microfibers, so it only has to be emptied once a month, and sends an alert via an app when it needs to be changed. Eventually, in theory, the fibers that are collected could potentially be recycled into new material rather than put in the trash. (Fittingly, the filter itself is also made from recycled plastic.) When OceanWise tested the cycle and filter together, they confirmed that it nearly eliminated microfiber pollution. Now, Samsung’s challenge is to get consumers to use it. The filter, which is designed to be easily installed on existing machines, is launching now in Korea and will launch in the U.S. and Europe later this year. The cost will vary by market, but will be around $150 in the U.S. The cycle, which began to roll out last year, can be automatically installed on WiFi-connected machines.

Unfriendly reminder that Percy might have told Bob that he was a giant and given him the choice to keep going in full honesty — Annabeth herself gave that possibility as much consideration as the one about him manipulating Bob, and there's as much basis for Percy being too kind and forgiving as there is for him being calculating.

The colors !!! Im so happy with this skein. The yellow ply is the combing waste (carded into rolags as i went) from a ryå fleece I dyed with yellow onion skin, the other ply is a batt @mimsiical helped me make on their drum carder, and is a blend of merino, corriedale, jacob, silk, and probably some other stuff ive already forgot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's 244 yards (223 meters) of maybe a heavy fingering weight. Didn't weigh it as my scale is under a bunch of other stuff
Also, got a picture of that miniskein that was ryå at one end and rambouillet at the other. Really happy with it, too !

Omega Edgeworth getting a nesting party at the von karma's is either
1. They don't throw him one. Damnit you were supposed to be an alpha no chance Von Karma loves you now. The staff stock him some things and explain it kinda sorta to Franziska who gifts him one of her blankets. He's touched. Until she asks (demands) it back a week later cause she's five and forgot.
2. Ms. Von Karma throws a mega bash for it. Everyone is coming. Edgeworth is being paraded around like a prized turkey and he's gotten so many gifts, mostly from people he hates. Or hates in the moment anyway, he feels like shit and just wants a nap but everyone in Europe has apparently decided to show up. He escapes to a back room to hide. Franziska finds him and gives him one of the dolls she doesn't really like but was carrying around all day. It's one of the only things he keeps.
