Is there something up with the High Valyrian wiki?
https://wiki.languageinvention.com/index.php?title=High_Valyrian_language
I've had this link bookmarked since ages. I can't seem to load the page. I've tried all sorts of browsers and it is still not working. i wanted to get back into actively learning HV again and duolingo is kinda annoying so. Is there a different page/resource the wiki has moved on to? I also seem to recall an old forum for HV with a bunch of really good resources for it. is it possible for you to provide a link? Thanks so much anyway!!
Good question! This wiki, which you can find here..
...is a labor of love—not just from me, but from a team of dedicated individuals who want to get information about my languages up somewhere more or less permanent, editable by many, and all in one place.
For years I have had a hosting plan from DreamHost. For a fixed fee, DreamHost allows you, essentially, infinite storage. I've got a dozen or so websites hosted by the same DreamHost account. I have to pay for the urls (a yearly fee; everyone pays these), but the hosting itself is covered, no matter if I had one website or a hundred.
Creating a wiki that would function like Wiktionary was my idea. I love Wiktionary, and love the idea behind it. For example, let's say you wanted to look up mate. This is an English word. It's also a subjunctive form of matar "to kill" in Spanish. It's also the word for "saliva" in Swahili. It's also "dead" in Tahitian. It's also a word in several other languages. It's kind of cool to take an abstract form—going just by spelling—and seeing that it's a word in a bunch of different languages, all with different etymologies (some related, of course. For example, mate has something to do with death in a lot of Oceanic languages. In Hawaiian it's make, which looks like an entirely different English word!).
In Dothraki, the word tor is the number four. It comes from Proto-Plains *tur (and so would be tur in Lhazareen). It's also the word for "tower" in Hen Linge (this is one of the words coined by Andrzej Sapkowski, not created by me). In Noalath, from The Shannara Chronicles, it's the word for "wolf", and in Shiväisith, the language I created for the Dark Elves from Thor: The Dark World, it's the word for "sword". While it's true I didn't create the Hen Linge word, I created the others, so you can see it's a form I'm fond of, where the shape is possible.
Anyway, that's kind of cool! And that was the point of the site.
As it happens, the High Valyrian section of the site is…massive. To give you an idea, at the moment, the wiki has over 220,000 pages. Most of those are High Valyrian pages. This is because there's a dedicated team for High Valyrian that has added pages for every single noun, adjective, and verb inflection for every existing word on the wiki. To give you an idea, every verb of High Valyrian has around 200 forms (ipradagon "to eat", ipradan "I eat", ipradā "you eat", ipradas "s/he/it eats", etc.). Every single form for every single verb has its own page. This was accomplished primarily with a program that populated the inflectional pages, but however they got there, they're there.
Certain things on the wiki are templates that need to go through and "check" every single page. Additionally, a webcrawler goes through and checks every single page on the wiki. This requires a lot of RAM. As a result, periodically, the entire website just...shuts down.
Obviously this is not cool. I asked DreamHost about it, and though we have infinite space, we don't have infinite RAM. The first step was to disable all web crawlers. You know about SEO, and how you can do things to increase the page rank of your site? Well, we needed to do the opposite. We needed to make the site disappear from the net, effectively. And we did. This is why even if you type "David J. Peterson wiki language invention" into Google you get nothing. It's like we don't exist. We're there, but you have to know we're there and go to the site specifically. That helped, but our own programs still shut things down.
The second step was to get a private server (technically a virtual private server) for the site. This cost me an extra $25 a month ($300 a year) from what I was already paying. This definitely helped, but sometimes things get to be a bit too much, and so the site still shuts down. This is what you experienced.
You know how Wikipedia begs you for money every year? It's because of this. It's one thing to create an awesome resource; it's another thing for people to actually use it.
Hosting already costs me about $250 every two years, and every year I renew the urls for about 15 websites, which is another $300 a year. If I upgrade the VPS to the next level, it's even more money every year. And that's just me paying it.
Right now, we're in an okay spot. The site shuts down every so often, but most of the time it's more or less stable. Unless I start making a lot more money regulary, that's the way it's going to stay.
So if you go to the site and it's down, I'm very sorry, but it will be back. May take a few days, but it'll come back (as long as I'm alive, anyway).

How Website Technical Analysis is Beneficial for SEO
Tumblr media
Conducting a technical analysis of your website is crucial for improving your SEO strategy and overall digital presence. This guide will explain how a comprehensive technical analysis can benefit your SEO efforts.
Introduction
Technical analysis involves evaluating various backend aspects of your website to ensure optimal performance and search engine rankings. By addressing technical issues, you can enhance user experience and improve your site's visibility. This guide will cover the key elements of a technical analysis for SEO.
1. Improving Site Speed
Site speed is a critical factor for both user experience and SEO. Faster loading times lead to lower bounce rates and higher search engine rankings. Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to identify and fix speed-related issues.
2. Ensuring Mobile-Friendliness
With the increasing use of mobile devices, it's essential to have a mobile-friendly website. Technical analysis helps ensure that your site is responsive and provides a seamless experience across all devices. Use Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test to ensure your site’s mobile compatibility.
3. Fixing Broken Links
Broken links can negatively impact user experience and SEO. Use tools like Screaming Frog to identify and fix broken links, ensuring that users and search engines can navigate your site efficiently.
4. Optimizing Site Structure
A well-structured site helps search engines crawl and index your pages more effectively. Technical analysis involves evaluating your site’s URL structure, internal linking, and navigation to ensure they are optimized for SEO. A clear and logical structure enhances user experience and search engine visibility.
5. Enhancing Security
Website security is crucial for protecting user data and maintaining search engine rankings. Ensure your site uses HTTPS encryption and conduct regular security audits to identify and fix vulnerabilities.
6. Improving Crawlability and Indexability
Ensure search engines can crawl and index your content effectively. Check your robots.txt file, XML sitemaps, and meta tags to ensure they are correctly configured. This ensures that search engines can access all important pages on your site.
7. Monitoring Technical SEO Metrics
Regular monitoring of technical SEO metrics such as site speed, crawl errors, and mobile usability is essential. Tools like Google Search Console provide valuable insights into your site’s technical performance and help you identify areas for improvement.
8. Using Structured Data
Implementing structured data (schema markup) helps search engines understand your content better and can enhance your site’s visibility in search results. Technical analysis includes evaluating and implementing structured data to improve your SEO.
9. Conducting Regular Audits
Technical analysis is not a one-time task but requires regular audits to ensure your site remains optimized. Keeping up with the latest SEO best practices and search engine algorithm updates is crucial for maintaining and improving your site’s performance.
For example, leveraging professional SEO company services can ensure continuous technical optimization of your site.
Conclusion
Performing a technical analysis for SEO is essential for ensuring your website’s optimal performance and search engine visibility. By improving site speed, ensuring mobile-friendliness, fixing broken links, optimizing site structure, enhancing security, and monitoring technical SEO metrics, you can enhance user experience and search engine rankings. Responsive vs. Adaptive: Choosing the Right Design Approach for Web and Mobile
In today's digital landscape, creating a seamless user experience across various devices is crucial for the success of any website or application. With the proliferation of smartphones, tablets, and desktops of varying sizes, designers and developers face the challenge of ensuring their content looks great and functions well on all screens. Two popular approaches have emerged to tackle this challenge: responsive design and adaptive design. In this blog post, we'll explore both methods, their pros and cons, and help you decide which one might be the best fit for your project.
Understanding Responsive Design
Responsive design is an approach that aims to create a fluid and flexible layout that automatically adjusts to fit the screen size of the device it's being viewed on. This method uses CSS media queries to modify the design and layout based on the viewport width, allowing the content to "respond" to the user's device.
Key Features of Responsive Design:
Fluid Grids: The layout is based on proportional percentages rather than fixed pixel values.
Flexible Images: Images scale within their containing elements to prevent them from displaying outside their parent container.
CSS Media Queries: These allow different styles to be applied based on the device's characteristics, primarily screen width.
Advantages of Responsive Design:
One Design for All Devices: Developers only need to create and maintain a single version of the website.
Future-Proof: As new devices with different screen sizes emerge, responsive designs can often accommodate them without major changes.
Cost-Effective: Generally less expensive to implement and maintain compared to creating separate designs for each device type.
SEO-Friendly: Google recommends responsive design, which can potentially improve search engine rankings.
Disadvantages of Responsive Design:
Performance Challenges: The same content is loaded for all devices, which can lead to slower load times on mobile devices.
Complex Implementation: Creating a truly responsive design that works well across all devices can be challenging and time-consuming.
Limited Control: Designers have less control over how the layout appears on specific devices.
Understanding Adaptive Design
Adaptive design, also known as adaptive layout, takes a different approach. Instead of creating a fluid design that changes continuously with the screen size, adaptive design detects the device type and loads a pre-set layout designed specifically for that device's screen size.
Key Features of Adaptive Design:
Multiple Fixed Layouts: Typically, designers create layouts for common screen sizes (e.g., 320px, 480px, 760px, 960px, 1200px, and 1600px).
Server-Side Components: Often involves server-side detection of the user's device to serve the appropriate layout.
Device-Specific Optimizations: Each layout can be tailored to the specific capabilities and constraints of target devices.
Advantages of Adaptive Design:
Optimized Performance: Each device receives only the resources and code necessary for its specific layout, potentially improving load times.
Greater Control: Designers have more precise control over how the site looks on specific devices.
Tailored User Experience: The design can be customized to take advantage of device-specific features or accommodate limitations.
Disadvantages of Adaptive Design:
Higher Development Costs: Creating and maintaining multiple layouts for different devices can be more time-consuming and expensive.
Less Flexible: May require updates when new devices with different screen sizes become popular.
Potential for Redundant Code: If not managed carefully, adaptive designs can lead to duplicate code across different layouts.
Choosing the Right Approach
Deciding between responsive and adaptive design depends on various factors specific to your project. Here are some considerations to help guide your choice:
When to Choose Responsive Design:
New Projects: For new websites or applications, responsive design is often the go-to choice due to its flexibility and future-proofing.
Content-Heavy Sites: Blogs, news sites, and other content-focused platforms often benefit from the simplicity of responsive design.
Limited Budget: If resources are constrained, responsive design can be more cost-effective in the long run.
SEO Priority: If search engine optimization is a primary concern, responsive design aligns well with Google's recommendations.
When to Choose Adaptive Design:
Existing Sites: When retrofitting an existing desktop site for mobile, adaptive design can sometimes be easier to implement.
Performance-Critical Applications: For sites where speed is crucial, adaptive design's ability to serve optimized content for each device can be beneficial.
Complex Functionality: If your site has features that require significantly different interfaces on mobile vs. desktop, adaptive design offers more control.
E-commerce Platforms: Online stores might benefit from adaptive design's ability to tailor the shopping experience to different devices.
Hybrid Approaches
It's worth noting that the choice between responsive and adaptive design isn't always binary. Some projects benefit from a hybrid approach that combines elements of both:
RESS (Responsive Design + Server Side Components): This approach uses responsive design as a base but incorporates server-side components to optimize certain elements for specific devices.
Adaptive Content: Some sites use a responsive layout but adapt the content served based on the device, combining the flexibility of responsive design with the performance benefits of adaptive content delivery.
Conclusion
Both responsive and adaptive design have their place in modern web development. Responsive design offers simplicity and flexibility, making it a great choice for many projects, especially those starting from scratch. Adaptive design, while potentially more complex to implement, can provide performance benefits and a more tailored user experience for specific devices.
Ultimately, the best approach depends on your project's specific needs, target audience, and resources. Consider factors such as your content, desired user experience, development resources, and maintenance capabilities when making your decision. In some cases, a hybrid approach that leverages the strengths of both methods might be the optimal solution.

Must-Have Programmatic SEO Tools for Superior Rankings
Tumblr media
Understanding Programmatic SEO
What is programmatic SEO?
Programmatic SEO uses automated tools and scripts to scale SEO efforts. In contrast to traditional SEO, where huge manual efforts were taken, programmatic SEO extracts data and uses automation for content development, on-page SEO element optimization, and large-scale link building. This is especially effective on large websites with thousands of pages, like e-commerce platforms, travel sites, and news portals.
The Power of SEO Automation
The automation within SEO tends to consume less time, with large content levels needing optimization. Using programmatic tools, therefore, makes it easier to analyze vast volumes of data, identify opportunities, and even make changes within the least period of time available. This thus keeps you ahead in the competitive SEO game and helps drive more organic traffic to your site.
Top Programmatic SEO Tools
Tumblr media
1. Screaming Frog SEO Spider
The Screaming Frog is a multipurpose tool that crawls websites to identify SEO issues. Amongst the things it does are everything, from broken links to duplication of content and missing metadata to other on-page SEO problems within your website. Screaming Frog shortens a procedure from thousands of hours of manual work to hours of automated work.
Example: It helped an e-commerce giant fix over 10,000 broken links and increase their organic traffic by as much as 20%.
2. Ahrefs
Ahrefs is an all-in-one SEO tool that helps you understand your website performance, backlinks, and keyword research. The site audit shows technical SEO issues, whereas its keyword research and content explorer tools help one locate new content opportunities.
Example: A travel blog that used Ahrefs for sniffing out high-potential keywords and updating its existing content for those keywords grew search visibility by 30%.
3. SEMrush
SEMrush is the next well-known, full-featured SEO tool with a lot of features related to keyword research, site audit, backlink analysis, and competitor analysis. Its position tracking and content optimization tools are very helpful in programmatic SEO.
Example: A news portal leveraged SEMrush to analyze competitor strategies, thus improving their content and hoisting themselves to the first page of rankings significantly.
4. Google Data Studio
Google Data Studio allows users to build interactive dashboards from a professional and visualized perspective regarding SEO data. It is possible to integrate data from different sources like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and third-party tools while tracking SEO performance in real-time.
Example: Google Data Studio helped a retailer stay up-to-date on all of their SEO KPIs to drive data-driven decisions that led to a 25% organic traffic improvement.
5. Python
Python, in general, is a very powerful programming language with the ability to program almost all SEO work. You can write a script in Python to scrape data, analyze huge datasets, automate content optimization, and much more.
Example: A marketing agency used Python for thousands of product meta-description automations. This saved the manual time of resources and improved search rank.
The How for Programmatic SEO
Step 1: In-Depth Site Analysis
Before diving into programmatic SEO, one has to conduct a full site audit. Such technical SEO issues, together with on-page optimization gaps and opportunities to earn backlinks, can be found with tools like Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, and SEMrush.
Step 2: Identify High-Impact Opportunities
Use the data collected to figure out the biggest bang-for-buck opportunities. Look at those pages with the potential for quite a high volume of traffic, but which are underperforming regarding the keywords focused on and content gaps that can be filled with new or updated content.
Step 3: Content Automation
This is one of the most vital parts of programmatic SEO. Scripts and tools such as the ones programmed in Python for the generation of content come quite in handy for producing significant, plentiful, and high-quality content in a short amount of time. Ensure no duplication of content, relevance, and optimization for all your target keywords.
Example: An e-commerce website generated unique product descriptions for thousands of its products with a Python script, gaining 15% more organic traffic.
Step 4: Optimize on-page elements
Tools like Screaming Frog and Ahrefs can also be leveraged to find loopholes for optimizing the on-page SEO elements. This includes meta titles, meta descriptions, headings, or even adding alt text for images. Make these changes in as effective a manner as possible.
Step 5: Build High-Quality Backlinks
Link building is one of the most vital components of SEO. Tools to be used in this regard include Ahrefs and SEMrush, which help identify opportunities for backlinks and automate outreach campaigns. Begin to acquire high-quality links from authoritative websites.
Example: A SaaS company automated its link-building outreach using SEMrush, landed some wonderful backlinks from industry-leading blogs, and considerably improved its domain authority. ### Step 6: Monitor and Analyze Performance
Regularly track your SEO performance on Google Data Studio. Analyze your data concerning your programmatic efforts and make data-driven decisions on the refinement of your strategy.
See Programmatic SEO in Action
50% Win in Organic Traffic for an E-Commerce Site
Remarkably, an e-commerce electronics website was undergoing an exercise in setting up programmatic SEO for its product pages with Python scripting to enable unique meta descriptions while fixing technical issues with the help of Screaming Frog. Within just six months, the experience had already driven a 50% rise in organic traffic.
A Travel Blog Boosts Search Visibility by 40%
Ahrefs and SEMrush were used to recognize high-potential keywords and optimize the content on their travel blog. By automating updates in content and link-building activities, it was able to set itself up to achieve 40% increased search visibility and more organic visitors.
User Engagement Improvement on a News Portal
A news portal had the option to use Google Data Studio to make some real-time dashboards to monitor their performance in SEO. Backed by insights from real-time dashboards, this helped them optimize the content strategy, leading to increased user engagement and organic traffic.
Challenges and Solutions in Programmatic SEO
Ensuring Content Quality
Quality may take a hit in the automated process of creating content. Therefore, ensure that your automated scripts can produce unique, high-quality, and relevant content. Make sure to review and fine-tune the content generation process periodically.
Handling Huge Amounts of Data
Dealing with huge amounts of data can become overwhelming. Use data visualization tools such as Google Data Studio to create dashboards that are interactive, easy to make sense of, and result in effective decision-making.
Keeping Current With Algorithm Changes
Search engine algorithms are always in a state of flux. Keep current on all the recent updates and calibrate your programmatic SEO strategies accordingly. Get ahead of the learning curve by following industry blogs, attending webinars, and taking part in SEO forums.
Future of Programmatic SEO
The future of programmatic SEO seems promising, as developing sectors in artificial intelligence and machine learning are taking this space to new heights. Developing AI-driven tools would allow much more sophisticated automation of tasks, thus making things easier and faster for marketers to optimize sites as well.
There are already AI-driven content creation tools that can make the content to be written highly relevant and engaging at scale, multiplying the potential of programmatic SEO.

If you want your website to shine online, mastering SEO is essential. However, many beginners stumble upon common pitfalls that can hurt visibility. Let’s break down these mistakes and how to fix them.
Tumblr media
1. Skipping Keyword Research
Mistake: Not researching keywords means your content may not align with what people are searching for. Fix: Use tools like Google Keyword Planner to find relevant keywords and create content that answers user queries.
2. Forgetting On-Page SEO
Mistake: Neglecting titles, headings, and meta descriptions can undermine your rankings. Fix: Optimize title tags, use headings to organize content, and write engaging meta descriptions.
3. Creating Duplicate Content
Mistake: Having the same content across multiple pages confuses search engines. Fix: Ensure each page has unique content and use canonical tags where necessary.
4. Not Optimizing for Mobile
Mistake: An unoptimized site can lose visitors on mobile devices. Fix: Use responsive design and regularly test your site on various devices.
5. Slow Loading Times
Mistake: A slow site drives users away before they engage. Fix: Optimize images and reduce unnecessary page elements to enhance loading speed.
6. Overlooking Meta Tags
Mistake: Poorly written meta tags can limit your site's visibility. Fix: Create unique title tags and compelling meta descriptions for each page.
7. Not Using Alt Text for Images
Mistake: Missing alt text means search engines can’t understand your images. Fix: Add descriptive alt text to all images, incorporating relevant keywords naturally.
8. Missing Internal Links
Mistake: Not using internal links makes navigation harder. Fix: Link to related content to improve user experience and distribute authority.
9. Disregarding Analytics
Mistake: Ignoring analytics means missing out on key insights. Fix: Use Google Analytics to track performance and refine your strategy based on user behavior.
