His thumb hover dangerously close over the heart sign, frozen in mid-air just like how he’s been frozen in time for the past years. There’s a calm before the storm until the nerves eventually get to Kageyama and his hand recoils as if the photo he’s staring at is a violent wake up call.

Hinata’s gotten a bit more tanned from the last time he posted a picture. Darker around the arms and legs, it highlights the toned muscles developed over the years. He’s got an even larger presence than the one Kageyama holds onto in his memories. Still the same smile though—vibrant, bigger than life, and nothing held back.

It makes his chest hurt.

The photo is of Hinata posing on a beach alongside a fellow volleyball player. He’s wearing a sleeveless tank and Kageyama finds himself staring at the biceps bared to the world. His account is private right? It better be private. Thirsty messages should not be welcomed in the comments.

He hears his name being called from outside the locker room. It’s time for practice.

Stolen moments are just that—fleeting minutes playing catch-up with Hinata picture by picture. Then, it’s back to reality and the court in front of him.

In the end, Kageyama decides on doing nothing and shuts off his phone. He pockets it in the jacket, his last name printed gloriously over the V.League team’s red and white jersey.

Thinking back, he should have said something. They were once partners for god’s sake, and now they might as well be strangers from the gap Kageyama’s unwittingly carved between them.

His last interaction with Hinata from the chat box, when Kageyama follows him on Instagram a few months after he’s landed in Brazil. He’d been immediately DM’d, Hinata calling him out for being late on the social media game.

‘ur now a part of a professional team! u need to make ur presence known or ur fans will be real sad’

Kageyama hadn’t responded.

He hasn’t done anything, in fact. No messages, no likes, no comments, no replies. The only thing that holds to his account is a profile picture of a Mikasa volleyball on the old Karasuno jersey. He’s here to play volleyball on the national stage, his game can speak for him.

By the time he’s realized his mistake, Kageyama finds himself frequently checking Hinata’s Instagram page and revisiting old posts. That—he’s allowed to do, no? And it’s an impressive curation—hundreds of photos narrating his two years stay in Brazil. Two years’ worth of change, growth, learning, and memories that Hinata’s making.

Two years without him.

Kageyama finds it hard to keep up sometimes. Following his life in the form of mere pictures and captions doesn’t really fill the void.

The only wisp of connection he has to his old team is through Tsukishima—the salty bastard of all people. When the blonde messages him though, Kageyama is already aware.

For the first time, Hinata has posted a video. It’s short—capturing only a few seconds but those seconds are enough. The pants Hinata wears are tight and moves enticingly with his quads. They bend, expand, and hup—from the sands, Hinata soars above the net, his wings in the form of haloed sun-rays, and passes the volleyball to his spiker.

Hinata has learned to set. And what a beautiful set it is.

Kageyama smirks. Nothing less from a starved crow.

He re-watches several times, unable to let go of the breath he’s been holding. If he does, the magic will go away. Something tightens in his chest. It spreads and grabs hold of his stomach and twists and turns and evolves into a fierce wanting.

Tsukishima’s text repeats in his head.

Looks like he’s aiming for FIVB World Cup. Maybe you’ll see him in the next Olympics?

He watches the video again. Memorizes the form of Hinata’s jump, the curve of his spine, the reach from his arms. His hair floats airily in a poof orange cloud, his lips slightly opened in concentration.

Alluring in every possible way.

This time, he doesn’t hold back. kageyama.t leaves a heart on the post along with a simple comment.

The twelve-hour difference between them has never had an impact for Kageyama. They don’t even talk anymore so what’s it to him if he misses a few instant messages from the person he’s been silently following (stalking) online since forever?

It’s already 11PM in Brazil, Kageyama impatiently notes. He should know better than to wait until it’s a better time for Hinata. But like a landslide racing towards the end, the compulsive words are typed and sent before he knows it.

Kageyama almost drops his phone, not expecting the quick turnaround from Hinata. His heart beats annoyingly loud and it’s the only thing he hears in the room.

‘i cant sleep. u know how i am. a ghost from my past decided to come back to life’

The sad thing is he’s right. Kageyama knows him all too well. He swallows the hard lump in his throat.

‘dont u dare ignore me. where did u fuck off to kageyama?’

He also knows Hinata rarely gets mad. This is one of those rare times. His head starts to buzz.

Nowhere. Volleyball’s been keeping me busy.

‘too busy to talk to a friend?’

His breathing quickens in short and shallow bursts. Questions, fears, and doubts swell into his mind and he needs to look away from the screen for a bit. Calm down—Hinata has all the right to call him out.

Maybe it’s a mistake to like his post.

No. Hinata deserves that and way more.

Maybe that’s why he should’ve reached out earlier. Ease it in. He should’ve responded to that first message.

He should’ve done a lot of things.

Kageyama stares at Hinata’s words. Damn him for always being right, for pulling him back. For saying things as is and pushing him to further ends.

First year nationals when they suffered a defeat with Hinata off-court. Hinata’s struggles in the academics and Kageyama’s equally abominable grades. Their makeshift practices during lunch on the school rooftop and late-night snack runs after training. Second year’s expected yet satisfying loss to Dateko and a hard-won third place in third year. The utter thrill of the orange court, the intensity of the game. The fleeting glances, the accidental touches.

The implicit words. Unspoken feelings.

The unequivocal promise after a splendid receive from Kageyama’s serve.

Hinata unabashedly marches up to Kageyama, suitcase in tow, and punches Kageyama hard on the chest.

He expects it just as much.

The shorter man doesn’t pull back, instead spreads his hand wide and presses against Kageyama’ body. In the middle of a large, well air-conditioned airport, the spot where Hinata’s touching him is blazing hot.

“Damn it,” Hinata hisses through his pout, “you’re still bigger than me.”

Kageyama snorts. Figures he’d say something stupid first.

He’s stumped at what to do next. Two full years of going radio-silent on the man (man, not boy anymore) has him doubting again. What’s acceptable, what’s appropriate, what’s allowed?

He starts to open his arms and Hinata jumps into him instantly, strong arms over his shoulder and his face buried in the crevice of Kageyama’s neck.

A fresh whiff of his hair and Kageyama softens. Things are…alright. A void is being filled.

Hinata’s voice is muffled against his neck, absolute yet frail. “I missed you.”

He did too.

“I’m still mad at you.”

“I know.”

“We have a lot of things to iron out.”

Kageyama gulps. “Okay.”

“Kageyama?” Hinata pulls back, determination flashing in his eyes. “It’s later.”

He still remembers that perfect form Hinata had embodied on the other side of the court, meeting him halfway in both passion for the sport and a knowing smile.

See you later!

Someone probably has already recognized him as a member of a V.League club, but he doesn’t care. Tightening his hold around Hinata, feeling the defined muscles hot under his grasp, Kageyama lays his forehead on Hinata’s shoulder in an act of release.

“Yeah, later is now.”

So, I went clothes shopping today to get some ‘fancy’ black slacks and tan slacks. My mom’s adopted family lives in Palm Beach, and unfortunately events there, while not exactly black tie, range from ‘business attire’ to ‘if you wear a T Shirt, Jeans and Sneakers to the Bath and Tennis Club they will not let you in and/or will physically escort you off the grounds.’ Not a fan of the place but my ‘grandma’ D is like...90+ and asked us to be her guests to an event there and damn it I’ll do what it takes to make her smile.

But Ket and clothes shopping are not a good mix. That is...quite clear now.

Before I start this, honestly kinda hilarious looking back, thing, I want to make some things clear:

1. I’ve worn what’s basically some of the same clothes for 10+ years. Most aren’t the exact clothes, but things that I tracked down as being the same type/fit that has been phased out of circulation in most retail stores that I can find. Example: In high school one of my old friends would be able to identify me in a bathroom stall due to the fact that I was the only female in school that wore Straight leg, relaxed fit jeans. For some reason most pants in stores now are skinny fit/shaped/ect. I hate them.

2. Like most people in the world, I have some neurodivergent traits. I also have some, thankfully very rare nowadays, CPTSD issues and hypervigilance issues. Certain places/settings flip a switch in me that just freaks me out.

3. My late mother bought most of my clothes as a kid. Afterwards adult female friends would help me out, or I would buy from a second hand shop whenever I needed something.

4. No one was available to accompany me today. Besides the second hand shops, which are usually small and simple enough to not freak me out, I have not been clothes shopping alone. Ever.

So. If it’s not clear, this was kinda a setup for a sitcom type clusterfuck of a shopping trip.

First place I hit up was Target. My mom used to take me there all the time as a kid and I figured hey, they tend to have nice clothes. I’ll try there. I’m close by after some other errands anyway.

If you haven’t been to a Target, or at least the Target near me, They have a bright red scheme and do the whole massive store with big high fluorescent lights and whitish linoleum tiles. So there’s a lot of bright white lighting and the floor is sorta reflective so it is...ugh. I can’t describe it but it sets part of me off. I can tell I’m also physically reacting to it because my eyes get big and my head pulls back a bit. Imagine a cat thats owner just shoved something towards their face.

As I’m speed walking through the womens clothing wondering why the fuck half of it is Christmas themed clothes and why the fuck can’t I find business attire and holy fuck the store has changed so much (and I may have walked into a fucking mirror they had this weird as shit setup in part of the clothing department and the white lighting made it hard for me to distinguish shadows okay I was wigged. out.) I get this text message.

This text message is from an app that my university classes use to set up group chats between classes and whatnot. Anyone in a group chat with you can do a private message to you. I check my phone and see that a girl from my mineralogy class has PMed me:

‘Hey K i work @ tgt jst saw u bookin it thru wmns u look terrified u k?’

The message kinda helped me snap out of my little ‘oh god oh god oh god what is happening this isn't how it's supposed to be oh god oh god OH GOD’ phase and I told her that I am not a shopping person and was having a bit of a sensory overload and was gonna call it quits. Ended up seeing her in another section and after asking about business attire she honestly responded that the mall would be a better bet. And also asked about one of our lab assignments.

So off to the Mall I went.

I’ll post more of this later. XD just wanted to get it out of my head because holy FUCK this day was stressful.

THe guy who swiped me was extremely nice, giving me humbers and taking photos and so on- he was decent. But to pay extra for collision ( Enterprize mentioned this) it'll be 15-18 bucks a day. At this point, I'm fed up with having to drive around getting appraisals and do NOT think I should pay a dam thing. If I get a tiny scratch on the rental, they may ask me to pay for that, or will they? Please what are my options? The rental will take MY credit card for godsake ( I understand--I could just go sell it etc), but I do not see why I should be liable for even a tiny scratch, if I don't have that coverage for my own car and am happy to keep driving my own car that way- I will not be able ot drive my car a week or so while it's in the shop. For today’s blog post I’m going to do something a little different. Instead of sharing a review, haul or wrap up I’m just gonna chat with you about books. I decided to do this partially because I’ve been in a reading funk and in turn a blogging funk but also because I thought it might help me get back into my groove by doing what I started this blog to do. Talk books. I thought I had pulled out of my funk when I picked up Frostblood by Elly Blake but it’s one of those books that separated into two parts and I have no idea why by the second I started reading Part Two I lost interest. So that’s been disappointing, don’t get my wrong I’m loving the story and writing but funk. I’m still hoping to finish that one by the beginning of February – though I’ll probably come back and re-read it at later date to really get a better feel for it since I’ve been stopping and starting and have basically lost my flow. Obviously having a reading funk is really unfortunate at this point in the year when there are so many amazing releases coming out. Though I’m not planning on reading many of the most anticipated books simply because a lot of them are sequels to books I have yet to read the first book of. One of my most notable anticipated releases is RoseBlood by A.G. Howard – it’s a retelling of the Phantom of the Opera and honestly it sounds so amazing. I love The Phantom of the Opera, it was the first real theatre production I saw as a younger girl (I was probably 11?) and I fell in love with the music. As I’ve grown older I’ve developed a better understanding of the dark tale about obsession and possession and despite its dark nature I still love it. I haven’t read the original book but since this is a YA Paranormal retelling that isn’t really staying true to the original story I don’t think that will be too much of an issue to me. I know some people who have never encountered The Phantom of the Opera were sent ARC’s of this books and didn’t really get it or understand so I’m hoping with my background understanding I’ll enjoy it much more. I was going to pre-order it but I had a feeling a book subscription company would include it in a January box and I wasn’t (or won’t be..) disappointed, OwlCrate one of my favorite subscription services has indeed included it in their January box so I’m looking forward to receiving that. I’m hoping it’ll pull me out of my book funk completely. For those of you that don’t know RoseBlood is fantasy YA romance modern-day retelling of The Phantom of the Opera. I can’t wait and I hope to be able to write a review on it (I struggle to write reviews because A) I read so fast and usually read back-to-back and then forget key points and B) I’m an emotional reader more than a critical reader. I think this stems from my ADHD and lack of attention span but I’m working on it.). Another release that I’m really antipating is Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller – something I’ve been loving right now is pirates, and something YA severly lacks is pirates. So this books release is perfect timing for me I really won’t say much about this one exept it features a kick-ass Pirate Princess who llows herself to be captured by enemy pirates and ends up in a thrilling YA advnture with – from what I understand- just a touch of romance. I truly can’t wait for this and just as I did with RoseBlood I’m holding off ordering this box until I know for sure no book subscription boxes will be picking it up- because I’m certain this is one of the bigger debut authors of the year and that Daughter of the Pirate King is as highly anticipated by others as it is by me. On the note of other anticipated releases I’ll just quickly share a few of mine for the first half of 2017; Caraval by Stephanie Graber, By Your Side by Kasie West, Letter’s to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer (which is kind of giving me a PS: I Like You vibes with the whole letter writing thing), The Trials of Apollo: The Dark Prophecy by Rick Riordan, Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts, The Wish Granter by C.J Redwine, Catching Carly by Emma Hart and A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas. Now let me jst say a little something-something about A Court of Wings and Ruin, the cover was just announced the other day and it looks SPECTACULAR but somehting notable about it is that the dress Feyre wears on the cover was inspired BY FANART. That’s right, an incredible artist called Charlie Bowater has been making digital art prints of both the ACOTAR and ToG series both by Sarah J. Maas and a dress she has Feyre wearing in one particluar piece ended up being used as the inspiration/base concept of this cover HOW INCREIDBLE IS THAT? But that’s not all, Charlie also collaborated to help create the art for the upcoming colouring book for ACOTAR series, which I am super excited about.

Speaking of fanart-author collaborations, to all those demi-god fans of Uncle Rick’s you’ll know the offical charcter art for all our beloved demi-gods and company were… quite honesly horendeous. Most people have just ignored it and looked at the incredible fanart created. Well turns our Uncle Rick knew of this and has done something AWESOME, he commissioned Viria (Viktoria Ridzel) to create the new character art for the offical website for the Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus. How cool is that? Check out the difference below:

See, doesn’t the new artwork just look so much nicer? I’ve always loved Viria’s fanart and I’m so happy that Riordan commissioned her to be the artist! You can see all of her character art in use HERE, and I really recommend checking it out because it’s awesome (plus if you play around there are HEAPS of bonus goodies and facts on the website for you to download and read!) .

Now to kind of conclude this awfully chatty post I’m going to just share three book recommendations since two of them are just stuck in my mind (they were both SO SO good) and the third is a perfect fun romantic comedy for you to pick up for Valentines Day.

First up we have To Catch a Pirate by Jade Parker. As I mentioned in the beginning I’ve been in a bit of a Pirate phase and there really isn’t much in terms of YA’s (and particularly YA Romance) in this sub-genre feild so after a little bit of digging I found this gem and decided to give it a go and see if its what I wanted. It was. It was exactly what I wanted. So I highly recommend it, it’s a YA Romance and super sweet.

The we have A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet. This was just an awesome high fantasy with so much adventure and awesome powers and it was a thrill to read. I actually want to re-read it again and I only just read it about a week ago! I can’t wait to read the sequel which I’ll hopefully get to in Feburary. I can’t wait to see how the charcaters progress and what else will be revealed! Also I just love the interactions between all the charatcers!

Now to conclude some recommendations I’d like to give you a straight up romance (not a YA) in preperation for Valentine’s Day. If you’ve been following my blog for a while you’d know that I am obsessed with a series called the Holly Woods Files by Emma Hart. This series was my first introdction to this author and I just fell in love with the personality the places within her characters and her writing style so when she released a laugh out loud comedy romance about a ‘hot mess’ of a character I couldn’t wait. It’s called Being Brooke and it’s a best friends to lovers romance and it made my stomach hurt from laughing so much. I loved Brooke so much and Hart is releasing another similar novel called Catching Carly later in the year so I can’t wait to pick that one up either.

Project #マイヤイヤ

It’s almost December 11 so it’s time to make another post about our project. HERE’s the original post in case you want to check it out. We have refined our plan a bit so I would like to remind everyone of the guidelines/rules. I would also like to provide some clarifications regarding our intentions. In the past two weeks I have received many questions so this will also serve as a sort of FAQ.

Guidelines/rules:

Date: December 25th at 7 a.m. (Japanese Standard Time); Please try to post as close to 7 a.m as possible. We want all of our tweets to be posted at approximately the same time. Everything posted before 12 a.m. (JST) should be fine though.

Platform: Twitter (a public account is required!)

Tags: => Hikaru’s tag (@Hikaru_0702_) => Takeshi Kato’s tag (@kaxtupe - he is one of the editors at SPICE) [EDIT : Tagging @kaxtupe is NO LONGER part of the rules ] => #マイヤイヤ

Message needs to consist of two main parts: => words of gratitude/appreciation for the past ten years. => words of support for the future (the individual paths they are taking)

Message must contain a photo/gif/video of yourself: => You can hide your face; => The photo needs to be related to Kalafina in a creative/unique way;

Message must contain the place you are from (country, city or both);

Message is restricted to English! However, please feel free to add a “thank you” or a “Merry Christmas” in your native language!

Important Notes:

Once more I would like to emphasise how very important it is that you stick to all the rules. We want this to be a positive experience for the girls.

Do not make the message about your own frustration, sadness and desire. I know it is tempting but this project is supposed to convey nothing but positivity, it is intended to show our appreciation and support for Wakana, Keiko and Hikaru;

We will not demand anything from the girls. We will not ask them to return to Kalafina. We will not ask them to join Yuki Kajiura, we will not pressure them into making announcements regarding their future, we will not pressure them to interact more with the fans or in Keiko’s case to return to the public eye etc;

I have created a twitter account (@MODmaiyaiya) in order to better moderate our project. Feel free to follow that account. I will be posting a few reminders and possibly even a countdown so no one forgets to post their tweet on Dec 25 at 7 am (JST). Also, if you want to say something particular but you are not sure if you will be violating our rules, please don’t hesitate to send a DM to @MODmaiyaiya. I will try my best to help you out. On Dec 25 I will frequently check the tag to see if everyone is sticking to the rules.

Note: As you can see, there is not much space left so you can be a little creative and use your picture to add some additional text. For example you could include your city/country and “thank you” in your native language as text field in your pic. You can add up to four pictures to a tweet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Won’t this seem like an act of pity? No! Why should we pity them? They are grown women who have chosen to take a different path in life. No reason whatsoever to feel sorry for them. If YOU feel sorry for them or pity them then okay, there’s nothing we can do about that but it’s certainly not our intention to make a pity fest out of our project. As is stated in the rules/guidelines/notes, this project is not about your emotions. All we are doing is showing our gratitude for the past ten years and making sure they know they have our full support for whatever they decide to do next.

Won’t this project stress the girls/make them feel bad? If everyone sticks to the rules then no, this project is in no way capable of stressing/pressuring them. Our project is supposed to be a selfless act of kindness. We are simply saying, "no matter what you do, no matter which roads you take, no matter how long it will take you, you've got my support". Our message is supposed to be positive but neutral. We are showing gratitude and support without expecting anything in return so how would that ever make them feel bad? Plus, I will be moderating the tag so I will try to make sure that any sort of negative content gets removed again.

Why is this project conducted on Dec 25 and not on Jan 23? As previously explained, Dec 25 is universally known as a day of love and rejoicing, it’s a time for giving so it seems very much suitable to conduct our project on that day. We decided against Jan 23 for various reasons. Most importantly, we intentionally chose a day that’s not heavily related to Kalafina beacuse we did not want to make them feel bad or pressured. We believe that posting our tweets on Jan 23 (or any other BIG Kalafina day) somehow implies that we want them to get back together. There is a sense of not wanting to let go of Kalafina. While I am sure that's true for most of us we really don't wanna burden the girls with our wishes. As for our other main reason, we assume that LOTS of Kalafina fans will be posting something on Jan 23 so it would be overkill to add our project on top of that. Others have suggested Jan 1 to be a much better fit than Dec 25 since that day has much more importance in the Japanese culture compared to Dec 25 which is merely a commercial day of celebration. That is true of course but that is the exact reason why we are NOT doing it on Jan 1. That day is too important and it’s meant for family and your loved ones. No reason to spam someone’s social media account on such a day.

Do I really have to post a picture of myself? Yes, you could even say that your picture is the main focus of this project. Our intention is to show them, "look, here is someone who has supported you in the past and who will continue to support you" so the picture is in fact supposed to show your "physical self". But since many people are not comfortable with showing themselves we included that part about hiding your face. So you can blur out your face or put a big fat smiley on top of it (whatever you prefer).

Can I post a gif/video instead of a picture? As long as you are in that gif/video and it is somehow related to Kalafina, then yes, it is fine, e.g. you can post a video of yourself covering a Kalasong or a gif of yourself showcasing your Kalacollection etc...

Why do I need to write in English? My English is very bad. Can’t we do it in our native language? This project will be conducted by foreign fans from all over the world but we want to keep things in order. This is why we thought it best to use a common/international language. Plus, we want our messages to be easily understood. I know English isn’t everyone’s native language (it isn’t mine either) but I think we can make this work. Our message space is very limited so this project is not about writing an essay, you can write a letter to them if there’s a lot you want to tell them. All you need for THIS project is some basic vocabulary because we only want to convey simple messages. You could compare our messages to a Christmas card or a New Year’s card. Nothing fancy, nothing elaborate, just letting someone know that you still care.

Can we post our messages in Japanese? Since this is a project created by foreign fans we want it to stand out as such. Therefore we have chosen English as the common language. We don't want our project to be confused with Japanese fan projects.

Why is it necessary to tag the SPICE guy? We are tagging Takeshi Kato (@kaxtupe) in his position as SPICE editor. He frequently uses his account for work related stuff so we think he won’t mind being tagged for this particular project. We are not demanding anything from him and it’s up to him whether he ignores all the messages or actually takes a look at them. Of course we hope he checks them out and feels inspired to make a post about our project so we get some exposure but we don’t want to pressure him or anything. He was chosen because he has worked very closely together with Kalafina in the past few years and he has also shown a lot of support for Hikaru’s and Wakana’s solo activities. He is very invested and has their best interest in mind. [EDIT: Tagging @kaxtupe is NO LONGER part of the rules ] After endless consideration I have decided that it’s best not to tag Takeshi Kato. I have been preaching on and on about how our project is a simple “thank you”, no hidden agenda, no ulterior motives. While we didn’t expect Takeshi Kato to do anything we were of course hoping to get some exposure. But really, exposure in the media is not necessary to make our project successful.

Why are we not tagging Yuki Kajiura? This project is directed at the members of Kalafina ONLY, it is not about Yuki Kajiura which is why we will not be tagging her. We also don’t want to pressure the girls into rejoining Yuki Kajiura.
