What I found out 5 years too late after the Detective Conan Movie 23 aired...

I've been rewatching this movie for god knows how many times but this is the first time i noticed that the cleaning boy was KID???????

This was how i figured it out. years later.

I always wondered how Conan found Kid on that rooftop. Now i know.

And then there's this scene that left me with a question "how did he know what Conan was talking about here?? He wasn't there when that conversation happened."

The me from 5 years ago thought maybe Kid planted a bug somewhere in the hospital, but apparently it was simply because he was there, as the cleaning boy, and he just overheard the conversation between Leon and Makoto exactly when it happened.

Well, I think that’s a good thing actually because if Kaitou KID wasn’t at least a slight bit insane, I doubt Film 23 would have worked out. Like, at all.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Kaito and Shinichi but if they weren’t a little bit lunatic, if they weren’t a tad feral, I doubt they would work together so well.

It’s not just their genius but also their willingness to be a bit unhinged in just the right moments.

They never actually lose their self-control, so I think describing them as daredevil and slightly lunatic is warranted.

The (literal) stunts both Conan and Kaitou KID pull off need at least a gross disregard for their own safety – Kaito is skilled, absolutely, the things he planned out are not what I’m referring to.

I love their easy confidence, their awareness that they can handle themselves – it’s not arrogance if it’s founded on the skill to back it up.

But when push comes to shove, when it’s getting dicey, when they are in a tight spot not even they could predict… that’s when their true genius shows in both of them! Together with that smidge of lunacy.

(A’ight, I’ll stop simping and return to writing self-ship about them now)

Man I really wanted to like movie 23 but this one was nonsensical even for modern detective conan movies. Where's the mystery when you already know who the culprit is from the beginning and who is also really not interesting whatsoever. Then suddenly there is a twist villain that comes out of nowhere with zero build-up...

Honestly, I was pretty scared about watching M23. There were so many expectations riding on it, even before I started watching DetCo around this time last year. It was the most popular movie featuring KID. For a time, it was the first crossing movie of the whole franchise. It was the movie I saw referenced or written about the most in the fanfic tags for the series.

Well, having said all that, I finally reached the point in my DetCo watch-a-thon were I could watch it and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! If anything, I think it just became my favorite KID-related movie! It really had everything. Mystery! Intrigue! Twists galore! KID and Conan buddy magician-detective comedy! So many near-death experiences. They even blew up the place all over again, and Conan skated down a building on a deck chair lmao.

I think the most surprising thing I got out from this movie was the plot around Sonoko and Makoto. It was a convulted one imo. Was honestly any of what happened to them worth the effort, ya know? I have my doubts. But the movie writer managed to convince me of their relationship in under two hours, the way the overall series hasn't managed in all the episodes I've seen so far. They are precious and ridiculous. Truly meant for each other.

Overall, I had such a good time! I'm still in such high spirits, it's a rush. While I can admit that with this cast, it was another fanservise movie for the ages. But at least this time I could suspend my disbelief way way easier~ 😁
