This was an impromptu trip to The Blue Hole and Trout Hatchery on our way to fish in Castalia, Ohio. It was one of my favorite places and I got awesome footage! See The Blue Hole (WOW!), fish hatchery, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and several ducks in this short nature video.

Here are a couple photos of chinook salmon spawning in the icicle river. Chinook didn't run in this river in the past, they were introduced by the hatchery. I read on the hatchery website that they chose to put the hatchery there so it wouldn't interfere with already established fish populations. . I don't really know that much about the purpose or impact of fisheries. I think it's mostly for human benefit. However, salmon populations are increasingly threatened by climate change. The flow in many rivers is decreasing and temperatures are decreasing so a lot of fish can't survive their trips up/down stream. In California, earlier this year, salmon were actually loaded up into vehicles and released at the ocean because they couldn't make it downstream on their own. . Although human caused climate change exacerbates the issue, better water management could alleviate the issue for a while. . The water level around the hatchery is also much lower than it was in spring, but I haven't been around long enough to know whether it's at a normal level and I haven't heard anything specific to Leavenworth about whether that's impacting their population. I suppose the hatchery would just hatch more to compensate... . Anyway, hard to take a good salmon photo, I learned. They also looked mostly pretty gross and beat up. I had to renew my M-F license, and because I’m a dues paying member of the Vast Left Wing Transgender Conspiracy™️, I was able to find the secret location of the gender licensing office out in the middle of nowhere! (AKA, by the Quabbin!) On the real though, this is the front entrance of the Charles L. McLaughlin memorial fish hatchery! Named after my own grandfather, it’s the largest Trout hatchery in Massachusetts! It’s closed for visitors currently. But Becky and I just happened to drive by this weekend while we were out enjoying some lovely weather. And I just couldn’t resist taking a picture. (And making the joke above!) Moving into a nice 3 bedroom home on a couple acres with trees, a fenced yard and garden area and next to the river by Fish Hatchery in my town. We get the keys tomorrow and I couldn’t be happier with all the positives in my life. It’s refreshing to finally be with someone so amazing with whom we can push each other to always be and do better every single day. Finally life is getting in order and on track and nothing but big things ahead. I have an amazing girlfriend, great friends and family, a nice truck, a home to us, and just got home from a nice cruise from New York, NY, to Orlando, FL and the Bahamas. Life works in a mysterious way but I love how things worked out in the end when I thought they never would. Things do in fact get better, you just have to trust it ❤️
