Now ushering in the second year of the annual fandom-wide event dedicated to the beloved ship of Alex Claremont-Diaz and Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor! This event takes place every day from September 27th through October 3rd. Each day has two different prompts which participants are asked to draw inspiration from. Participants may choose one of the two daily prompts, or do both.

Every prompt is designed to be vague so that each person can interpret it differently! There is no right or wrong way to participate. Whether you are an artist, a writer, a video editor, etc, you can join!

When his phone rings just after two in the morning, Alex fakes sleep. He stays perfectly still as Henry reaches over him to pick it up and squeezes his eyes shut when he hears the soft sound Henry makes when he sees who’s calling.

He hears Henry’s groggy “hello,” then a soft “okay,” and “yes, he’s here,” followed by Henry’s hand pressing to the middle of his back.

“Love,” Henry whispers, and Alex sighs as he lifts his hand so Henry can press the phone into it.

Alex hears his mother’s tired “sugar” and not much else. He doesn't need to. He’d been expecting this call for over a week, and while the possibility of when and where it occurred was always up in the air, the outcome was always the same.

All Booked Up

Thanks to @thebrownstone for Firstprince week! Here’s mine for Written in the Stars!

A book tearing up the Bestseller’s List is quickly shoved into Alex’s hands via June and Nora. Despite his resistance, he’s taken in by the book and its whirlwind romance. When Nora insists they all go to a reading with the mysterious author, Alex is drawn in by H. G. Fox, hanging on his every word. When they meet after the signing, it sets him on a path he’d thought was impossible.

A month later, Alex has reread the book twice and joined in many a heated discussion with June and Nora about it. He’s dipped his toe into fanfiction, gone online to see what people are saying, and even tried to find out more about the author. As this was his debut novel, there’s not much online about H.G. Fox. The back of the book wasn’t much help. It didn’t even have a picture. Just a painfully short bio that reads: H. G. Fox loves three things in the world — writing, the perfect cup of tea, and his dog. This is his debut novel.

Finding snippets from this that don’t give things away felt impossible.

Summary

Alex, as always, is utterly captivating. He accepts his crown with grace and a crooked grin; it’s a duality that only he can pull off. Alex’s megawatt smile is brighter than the hundreds of multicolored shards of light reflecting off the mirrorball in the center of the room. Henry knows that Alex looks good on stage, he knows that Alex knows that he looks good on stage, and apparently, everyone else knows it as well. Henry thinks he sees a girl faint at the sight out of the corner of his eye. And yet, no one knows about Alex and him. Everyone in the crowd wants Alex, but it’s a losing battle — Henry already won that fight a couple of weeks ago.

Or, When Alex wins Prom King, Henry sneaks him away for a moment alone and realizes that his feelings may run deeper than their clandestine hookups suggest

Henry opens his eyes to darkness and a half-remembered dream of Alex interrupting him with a kiss. He'd called Alex a menace at the time, yet as Henry sits up in bed some hours past midnight, he knows there will never be a day he doesn't miss any and all of Alex's cheeky interruptions.

Begging For You to Take My Hand

Happy FirstPrince Week! I love that @thebrownstone gave us an extra reason to celebrate! Here is my take on Past and Present.

Henry was too broken when he first saw Alex. But Alex gets to see him the happiest he’s ever been. Henry has to hide his feelings from the world and from Alex. But Alex brings out his joy in life.

Henry and Alex growing together across the years.

“One more introduction, Your Highness.”

Henry turns back, and, of course, it’s him. This time, his smile is turned on Henry. It’s bright, carefree, and happy. Henry can’t remember the last time he felt any of those emotions. And here’s this boy in front of him, roughly his age, dark curls Henry itches to touch, the most beautiful person around. Henry’s chest aches, his heart rattling against the cages of grief and anger and desolation, wanting to access anything this person could offer him.

But without a word exchanged between them, Henry already knows he can’t. Even more than the reasons he normally can’t.

“Hello, Your Highness,” he says, sticking out a hand. “Alex Claremont-Diaz. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Henry looks down at his hand and back up at him. His heart races even faster. Reluctantly, he slides his hand against Alex’s palm, meeting for a quick shake. But just that one moment is enough. Henry feels the warmth of his touch against his hand, feels a spark run up his arm. A flicker of light amidst the darkness. A fire that would consume him if he let it.

He can’t let it.

Turning to Shaan behind him, Henry mutters, “Can you get rid of him?”

FirstPrince Week Day 2: Past or Present

“This is my curse,” Henry mutters, and Pez laughs across from him.

“You can hardly be responsible for the weather.”

“So the glaring fact that every single New Year’s Eve on record in my life has been an utter disaster means absolutely nothing to you?”

“We’re going to make it, so no, it means nothing to me,” Pez says with cheerful optimism despite the constant fluttering of white beyond the plane windows.
