I still know nothing about trolls but I love them. Your troll artwork in general is incredible btw. I may have to watch the movies now, you are winning. XD
they are incredibly silly movies, but as soon as you let go and take any part of them seriously, It's Over.
like oh my god.... he thinks he's responsible for his grandmother's death and that's haunted his every step for the past 2 decades... he thinks singing killed his grandma...😭😭😭
the first is probably the strongest film of all of them, tho it's sense of humor i generally vibe with the least.
the second has one of my favorite messages in kid's animation from the like. last 20 years, despite it feeling like it coulda benefited from another go in writer's room. but it also has HICKORY. won't spoil here why he gets me runnin around the room, but if you know you know.
and the third movie..?
what the hell man.
there is so much here that is joey's brand of kryptonite. like it was Hand Picked to make me, specifically, go hog wild. just the traditional pink pig, rolling in the dirt, shriek-oinking at 200 dB kind of hog wild.
y'know how stories that feel somewhat incomplete or have things unexplored lend themselves to fanworks a little better? that's what's goin on here.
#looks like i'm doomed to go batshit insane every ~10 years over a dreamworks movie#first it was Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron#then it was Rise of the Guardians#and now Trolls Band Together......#i'll see y'all in 2034 for the next one?????#tho fun fact-#thru a series of events i have now got my wires crossed between Trolls and some of the Spirit soundtrack.... oh Reunion OST my beloved ....#trolls#lorieninksong#joey babbles

this one says that a sign of an imbalance in the throat chakra is that a horse "doesn't listen to commands"
losing my mind at the implication that a completely natural, cosmically attuned, spiritually alligned horse would chose to "authentically express" itself by submitting its bodily autonomy completely over to your command
#hi. I very much admire your posts about equestrian culture. you are such a real one#as a kid I very nearly got indoctrinated into horse girl culture. I REAAALLY wanted to 'own' one or go to riding school like my friends did#purely because I grew such an affection for the animal and wanted to be as close to them as possible#and because I watched Spirit Stallion of the Cimmaron obsessively (still my fave movie ever) and never *quite* made the connection#however when I did end up owning a whole lot of horse toys (including a stable/ranch playset set)#I would only ever roleplay the horses breaking free and running away while playing the Spirit chase scene OSTs on my ipod. lol#in the first grade when my teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up I said 'a horse' completely straightfaced#I used to look in the mirror and get bodily dysphoria because I didn't look horselike enough :-/ my anatomy was way off#so now I've found my truth#I never wanted to ride a horse#I WANTED TO *BE* A HORSE

After rewatching Spirit horse movie for the millionth time I introduce Hazbin Hotel x Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron to you all
I probably won't post the rest of the cast until the day after tomorrow since it's a school night
In this AU, in place of Hell is the Tophet Herd, which resides in the Badlands and overall deserty areas, meaning lack of water and food, which also means that the horses are hungry, thirsty and really angry. The Tophet Herd mostly consists of either lone wild horses, Heaven's Cavalry's sick and/or injured horses or horses dropped off by their owners to let nature finish them off.
In place of Heaven is Heaven's Cavalry, also acting as the Exorcist army. The cavalry acts as A training base for young soldiers and cavalry horses.
Once a year Heaven's Cavalry descends upon the Badlands to wrangle in as many horses as possible for the army, gravely injuring or even killing Tophet Herd's horses in the panic. So to counter this, Charlie has decided to move her entire herd further away from the humans. But since Tophet herd is so ridiculously big, moving the entire herd at once would risk forgetting someone behind, so Charlie comes up with the idea to move smaller groups at first and then move onto bigger and bigger groups.
But then comes the problem of scouting out an appropriate place. So Charlie gathers the original cast, goes to meet with some of the important cavalry horses(Adam, Lute, and later Emily and Sera) with help from her dad(cuz y'know fallen angel=abondoned cavalry horse and I'm sure Lucifer still had close connections with a few cavalry horses).
#hazbin hotel#hazbin charlie#charlie morningstar#hazbin vaggie#hazbin angel dust#spirit: stallion of the cimarron#au#the other horse angel appeared with is supposed to be his brother arackniss#should i call this au Charlie: Mare of the Tophet#cuz I genuinely have no other names for it#ahh who cares imma call it that#Charlie: Mare of the Tophet au

How are the gang when watching emotional Pixar movies? (Specifically Up because I was just thinking about it and then Hosea and Bessie immediately after and it made me sad but Pixar movies are awesome as a whole)
out of touch plays menacingly in the background as i try to remember a single pixar movie
THE OPENING OF UP WILL MOVE ANYONE IN THE GANG TO TEARS they just want the simple pleasure of finding love being in love getting to spend their lives together with someone they are crying so hard they miss the first 30 minutes of the movie like drying their eyes why is there a giant bird now
i'm actually a dreamworks slut can you imagine the gang watching rise of the guardians?? dying for someone you love and wondering what your purpose is? battling with identity, trying to figure out where you belong in a world that seems so neatly divided into good and evil? losing hope? the tears shed
kieran watches spirit stallion of the cimmaron constantly because he's a horse girl but also arthur and charles both bawling over the story. sound the bugle always gets arthur but charles will be sniffling as little creek and spirit jump the ravine like that movie is just peak hurt/comfort for the gang
the gang not being able to fully connect with toy story because they didn't have toys growing up like their childhoods were too warped by era/fighting for survival
finding nemo. sorry but all of them having daddy issues. post blessed are the peacemakers arthur watching a film about a dad that went after his son when he had to ask dutch if they were actually looking for him? all of them feel absolute grief watching that movie but arthur is personally attacked. arthur is personally attacked by most animated movies
kieran gets into bluey as a comfort show and no one is ready. sean trying to warn arthur it isn't a kids show like do not sit down and watch bluey with kieran it will fuck with your mind and arthur brushing it off but it's bluey man. 'you don't need to keep coming back to this place'. Turtleboy? Onesies? Sleepytime? Army? Mini Bluey? Squash? The Dump? Space? Baby Race? Man is wrecked.
also studio ghibli films. toy story might not do it but totoro absolutely makes them mourn for the whimsy of childhoods they didn't get to experience. ponyo, kiki's delivery service, whispers of the heart, howl's moving castle (howl's moving castle man hosea feels the whole loving a man who sold his heart to a demon to become powerful and becoming a monster instead). even when marnie was there gets them a little too close with the playing with time travel

I would love to hear about any WIPs you're in the mood to talk about (always!), but bonus points if any of the answers address And I Would Stay a Little Longer 💙💙 9, 10, 14, 21
Bless you!! I can't wait to answer all of these, they're so much fun 🤩 I'm gonna answer them for both AIWS and DoW because they're the wips I'm currently most passionate about.
9: What's your favorite dialogue you've written so far?
This is SUCH a difficult choice for AIWS, because I honestly am so attached to all of it. XD But I'm really fond of this little exchange between George, Lockwood, and Lucy. It's important to me to have little light moments like this in a fic with such an inherently heavy premise. (sorry it's so long 😅)
"You don’t seem to have any malevolent intentions. Of course, if you did, your miasma would be the first thing you’d disguise.” “George.” Lucy snorted. “No, he’s right. You’ve caught me. Let’s see if you two can handle the full force of my ‘malevolent intentions.’” Before either of the boys could say anything, Lucy shut her eyes tight and flung her arms out in front of her, sending a gentle flutter of fallen leaves scattering into their faces. And just like that, the heaviness was broken, like moonlight spilling out from behind a blanket of clouds. Lucy laughed as the boys spluttered leaf bits from their mouths. Lockwood found himself smiling at the sound. “She’s too dangerous, Lockwood. What did I say about how we shouldn’t trust her?” George said as he shook leaves from his hair. “Quite right. I should have listened to you. We’ll be lucky if she lets us live.” Lockwood winked across the clearing at Lucy, warmed by the spark of mirth in her eyes.
As for Dog of War, I haven't written much of it at all yet, but I really like this little snippet between Destry and Maggie. It's short but it's a solid establishment of Destry's character. She doesn't hesitate to protect and provide, but she's absolutely hellish to the people who have wronged her. (plus the dog symbolism is very integral to her)
Destry was already halfway out the door. “I’ll be back before the sun’s high. He’ll be with me. Make sure Marcel has dinner ready. If they’ve been treating Lem half as kindly as they treated me, he’ll be starved.” Maggie nodded grimly. “Just bring him back, and give ‘em hell.” Destry smiled like a hungry hound. And then she was gone.
10: What is the last line of dialogue you've written?
To answer that for DoW is easy, because it's that little snippet up there. XD
For AIWS, it's this little bit that still makes my eyes a little misty when I think about it.
After nearly twenty minutes of searching, Lockwood whirled around to Lucy from down on the bank. He had an impossibly brilliant smile, and for a moment he felt as though he couldn’t speak around the odd lump in his throat and the thrumming in his chest. Lucy gazed back at him, a mirror of his emotions without knowing their cause. “Lockwood?” “There’s no deathglow.”
14: What have you been finding frustrating with writing this fic?
The answer is the same for both of them: focus. My focus has been all over the place and if I could change one thing about myself instantly, it'd be to improve my ability to focus and be consistent with things, especially writing. I hate taking long unannounced breaks in between chapters of my published fics, but I don't yet have the discipline to stay consistent with writing unless I'm in the midst of an intense fixation on my wip. It's very frustrating.
21: Share three songs that would belong on a playlist for this fic.
For AIWS: If We're Being Honest by Novo Amor (where the title of the fic comes from), flare by sød ven, and Embody Me by Novo Amor.
For DoW: Frozen Pines by Lord Huron, Way Out There by Lord Huron, and this one is incredibly specific but Canyon Chase from the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.
#thank you so much for these!! this was so fun!#and now i have to go make an actual playlist for dog of war lol#i apologize that this post is so long XD#i had fun#and i would stay a while longer#aiws#dog of war

The Prince of Egypt (1998)
When Jeffrey Katzenberg left Disney in 1994 to form DreamWorks with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, it was essentially seen as a declaration of war against his former compatriots in the company. The first volleys in that war, however, would not come until 4 years later in 1998 with Antz and The Prince of Egypt. Both were bold statements, the former a CGI comedy directly designed to compete with Disney's new comrades at Pixar, the latter a big-budget traditionally animated musical taking aim at the prestige and box office returns of the Disney Renaissance that Katzenberg had helped shepherd at Feature Animation. Both made a strong impression at the time, and while Antz is somewhat forgotten today (especially thanks to the increasing controversy of Woody Allen as a filmmaker/performer and public figure), The Prince of Egypt has held on as a genuine classic. Does it deserve to be? Absolutely.
The plot is certainly familiar in its outlines to anyone who ever attended Sunday school. Hebrew slave Yocheved (the late singer Ofra Haza, absolutely haunting in only a few sung lines) places her baby Moses (Val Kilmer) in a basket and sets him down the River Nile in Egypt to rescue him from a purge commanded by Pharaoh Seti (Patrick Stewart). Moses eventually drifts towards the palace and is adopted by the Queen (Helen Mirren) and raised in the palace alongside his brother Ramses (Ralph Fiennes). They grow up as troublemakers, much to the consternation of Seti and the high priests Hotep and Huy (Steve Martin and Martin Short). When Moses helps free a captured Midian woman, Tzipporah (Michelle Pfeiffer), he learns a shocking revelation from the slaves Miriam and Aaron (Sandra Bullock and Jeff Goldblum): he is their brother. Disturbed by this and the full reality of the purge, he accidentally kills a slave-driver in a struggle, then leaves Egypt. After reuniting with Tzipporah in Midian, he begins to make a new life for himself. One day, when trying to retrieve a sheep, he comes across the fabled burning bush and speaks to God, learning that his task is to free His people from the Egyptians. But it will not be easy, God warns, and you DEFINITELY know the holy ass-kicking coming up next if you've read your Scripture.
First things first: this is in the top 5 of the most beautiful animated features ever made, regardless of country or studio. This is as grand, no, grander than many live-action films in the scope of its vast settings-deserts, palaces, chariot races, plagues of frogs and fire, the Red Sea-yet the tiniest gesture from its characters can have just as much impact. Spielberg brought much of the staff and talent from his short-lived Amblimation studio in London to work on this, and the talent is well in evidence. Animators like Rodolphe Guenoden, William Salazar, and Kristof Serrand give stellar, realistic renderings that avoid much of the scenery-chewing instincts of Western animation. (Katzenberg did some poaching of his own, bringing in James Baxter to do some truly stellar scenes of Moses' acting that anticipate his great realism on films like Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron) The CGI is used brilliantly too, even if, like Hunchback, the crowds look a little obvious nowadays if you look too closely. I also want to shout out the direction by Brenda Chapman (another Disney vet), Simon Wells, and Steve Hickner. They guide the story brilliantly in terms of shot choices, such as in a famous scene where Moses goes on his journey across the desert and becomes smaller and smaller in the frame.
Like Hunchback, this is a story that demands a certain seriousness, and it avoids the pitfalls of that film by eschewing goofy sidekicks for more natural character-based comedy amidst all the sturm and drang. Even Hotep and Huy, while they get some funny moments, undergo a darker, hypocritical turn when their power is threatened. While there are changes made to the Biblical story (addressed upfront in my favorite "please don't kill us" disclaimer of all time), they all pretty much work for the story this tries to tell. Moses is reframed as a man desperately in need of a purpose, and God certainly gives him one, but also someone who truly loves his adopted brother and wishes things didn't have to be this way. Ramses, too, is seen with remarkable complexity as a figure who adores Moses, but is simultaneously all too aware of and completely blind to the privileges he holds, which costs him everything. The supporting cast gets some nice moments too; I especially like Tzipporah's subtle shift as she grows to love Moses, even if she never loses her spirit.
(A quick word on the voice cast before we get into the aural end. You would probably not cast the film the way they did today, with predominantly white or non-Jewish actors as Hebrews and Egyptians, and I think that's certainly worth considering even if visually, the characters obviously look much closer than previous Biblical films using very white casts. The main observation I will put forth is that the film WAS shepherded by two of the most powerful Jewish men in Hollywood, Spielberg and Katzenberg. And given that the story was important enough for them to consult an army of religious experts from various cultures to get things like clothing and traditions correct, they presumably could have gotten any cast they wanted. They ultimately landed on this one, and I think that was their right. I do not object to anyone who feels differently, especially as a non-Jewish white guy myself.)
In terms of the soundtrack, Stephen Schwartz possibly outdoes his collaborations on Hunchback with the songs here, aided by an equally great score and arrangements by Hans Zimmer. "Deliver Us" is a powerful opening number that visualizes the plight of the slaves with heartbreaking cruelty. And as said, Haza's vocals cast a spell that will hang over the entire film. "All I Ever Wanted" is the shortest, probably weakest song in the film, but I like how it plays almost as an inversion of the typical "I Want" song in terms of Moses trying to convince himself that this is what he actually wants. "Through Heaven's Eyes" boasts a robust performance from Broadway vet Brian Stokes Mitchell as Tzipporah's father Jethro that is genuinely uplifting in the new spirituality offered to Moses. (Mitchell is so good, in fact, that I wondered why they even brought in Danny Glover for the character's few spoken lines, even if those are well-delivered). "Playing With The Big Boys" is easily the most sinister I've ever heard Steve Martin and MARTIN SHORT, of all people, sound, though I suppose it helps when you back them up with badass chanting. "The Plagues" too is ominous and rumbling, with a heartbreaking counterpoint duet between Moses and Ramses right in the middle. And "When You Believe" genuinely soars as the newly freed slaves embrace life.
The voice cast is star-heavy, as mentioned, but all are well-chosen rather than distracting, and it certainly doesn't sound like anyone's phoning it in to my ears. In particular, I think this is one of the best performances of Val Kilmer's career, equal to his Doc Holliday in Tombstone, as he goes to the mat emotionally in scene after scene. (He also plays God, doing a wonderful job of making him seem mysterious, unknowable, and sympathetic all at once). Fiennes is his match, tragic and vile in equal measure, though perhaps his cruelest delivery is his most offhanded, a casual "Slaves" when Moses observes their father murdered children. (This echoes Stewart, who goes from sternly warm patriarchy to a truly chilling moment where he tries to comfort Moses by saying "They were only slaves", much to his adopted son's horror). Bullock doesn't get a ton of screentime, but she paints an effective portrait of a woman trying to hold onto hope and faith because that's all she has left. Goldblum gets some proper Goldblum-y comic relief moments as Aaron, but also a crucial cynical beat where he questions why Moses cares so much about them now. And as said, I really like how Pfeiffer gives Tzipporah a lived-in toughness rather than seeming fake (she also gets a priceless reaction when she helps save Moses from a well).
I come to this film from a number of different angles: as an animation fan first, and as someone for whom it was a fixture in a mixed secular-Christian household growing up. I grew away from God as time went on, but stories like this can still take hold in my imagination because of the pictures they paint. There is a genuine sense of wonder here, beautiful and terrible by turns, and I feel it every time I watch. The faith that a true miracle is occurring.

10 Ten Movies I Love:
I never do these, but I was tagged by @film-in-my-soul, so I gotta. They’re not in any particular order.
1. Atonement (2007)
This movie absolutely wrecked me when I first watched it, and whenever I need a good cry, this is my go-to. I loved everything about it, the cinematography (that tracking shot on the beach was absolutely gorgeous), the acting, the romance, the story, the everything.
2. Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
The way this movie gripped me by the balls and still hasn't let go is telling. I've watched it an ungodly amount of times and it only came out last summer.
3. Arrival (2015)
I immediately went back to the theater to rewatch this because it was just so gripping. I thought it was one of the freshest takes on aliens I'd seen in a while, and I loved the thriller aspect to it even though it wasn't scary. I loved the chemistry between the actors, and the story itself was so beautiful.
4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
This is the obvious one. It's got Steve. It's got Bucky. It's got Natasha. It's got Sam. It's a political thriller. It wasn't under pressure to adhere to the MCU bullcrap so it was actually excellent. What more could you want. (Oh, and it had the elevator scene).
5. Twister (1996)
Yeah, it's campy, it's silly, but it remains such a comfort classic. I watch it pretty much yearly. I loved the soundtrack, I loved the exes-to-lovers, and I love the disaster.
7. Rogue One (2016)
For some reason, every single time I watch this movie, I like it even more than the last. I find new things to enjoy and appreciate, and nothing can match K2SO.
8. Prince of Egypt (1998)
I watch this yearly with my cousin, as per tradition demands. I may not care for religion itself, but goddammit if this isn't one of most beautiful films in existence. The fact that multiple leaders from various faiths were consulted to make sure it was as accurate as possible brings me so much joy. And the cast. And the music. To this day I still get chills from listening to the soundtrack.
9. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron (2002)
Fuck it, I'm adding Spirit here too. It's my childhood. I love horses. Another one where the soundtrack brings me chills and to tears. The story is so hopeful and beautiful, and fucking Matt Damon is the narrator. Love it.
10. Titanic (1997)
I'm basic. Sue me. As you can tell, I'm a sucker for music, and this one hits right in the feels.
There's so many more, it's hard to choose!
And now I gotta drag others into this, soooo tagging @renai-chan, @icemav86, @peppermintwhisp, and @scienceiswickedcool.

Inktober 08: Sound the Bugle, by Bryan Adams, soundtrack to Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron
Sound the bugle now, tell them I don't care / There's not a road I know that leads to anywhere / Without a light, I fear that I will stumble in the dark / Lay right down, decide not to go on
So yeah that whole optimism lasted about the 3 months it took for the one (1) friend I made in Sixth Grade Part One to uh stab me in the back for a chance to stop getting bullied herself. I mean it get it but damn bitch. And suddenly it wasn't acceptable to solve your problems with violence anymore, either, which really cramped my style. So I just kinda gave up on the whole social thing. I'd been sad before, sure, but this was the first time I'd wanted to die. And I was, like, 10. Very normal thing to want, you know, at that age.

[Someones opinion on spirit Stallion of the cimmaron]
Did... did we watch the same film??? The music is such an integral part of the film BECAUSE there is minimal dialogue and it's mostly the main characters (spirit) internal monologe. The soundtrack is fucking amazing btw.... "garbage"???? Watch it again. It didn't sink in your brain the first time. Even if it was a normal animal talking kids movie the music would STILL BE FUCKING AMAZING. "Replaced with appropriate sound effects" ??? THERE ARE SOUND EFFECTS THROUGH THE ENTIRE MOVIE... YOU CAN HEAR IT UNDER THE MUSIC TOO. they HAVE to up the sound effects bc again- no talking animals! They have to provoke emotion and idk fucking critical thinking somehow and clearly u didn't get the memo. Actually don't watch it again. You are never allowed to enjoy or watch this movie ever again.
(If anyone thinks I'm being mean idc how dare ppl shit on my absolute favorite movie I am a hater towards them)
