Patrick Bateman x fem!reader
WARNINGS: smut/NSFW, dubcon, degredation, forced proximity. the mains ones, if you think i should add any more let me know <3
you and bro are trapped in a elevator/lift together. you hate him, he hates you. but he always knows how to pass the time.
(Itâs been to long since Iâve seen this movie, so bare with. read through once or twice but there probs still a few mistakes)
You and Patrick Bateman had never gotten along. You were all he hated in a woman. Strong minded, opinionated, *a human being opposed to an object*. Good thing for him, you hated him just as much. Objectively at least. But youâd be lying if you said you didnât get something out of his controlling and rude nature. Though youâd never admit that to yourself. Itâs everything you stand against. But that was half of the appealâŠ
Much to your utter disgust, and no doubt his own, you two were stuck in an elevator together. It had stopped working between floors. And you two would be in here for at least an hour. Or so the mechanic on the emergency call told you.
âJust my damn luck..â
You annoyedly mumbled to yourself. Running your fingers through your hair.
âYou read my mindâ
the words uttered from his pampered mouth held no emotion whatsoever. It wasnât a surprise.
âI canât think of anything Iâd want less in all fairness. Reading your mind would no doubt drive me to jump until the damn lift dropsâ
*here we go againâŠ*
âThe fact that you 're even considering that means youâve thought about it at least once.â
He sounded smug, like catching you in a lie. Though you didnât let it show how much such a small comment got on your nerves
âItâs not like thereâs much to think about when we are trapped together in such a small spaceâÂ
You grumbled. mind spiralling to try and distract you from your current circumstances though it wasn't much of a distracting, judging by the fact your eyes locked straight onto him. A hungry gaze masked by judgement wandered over to his slightly taller, and a lot broader, body. You were stood leaning against the closed door. He was standing straight on the other side, no more than 3 ft between the two of you. Of course this was a perfect opportunity to check him out, not like heâd get anything but an unnecessary ego boost from it.
Your eyes dragged over him from head to toe. Lingering on the way his tailored slacks tighten over his toned thighs. You wondered how much the man could lift. But the thought was soon pushed from your mind as your eyes landed on another part the pants strained against.Â
letting your gaze stay in his bulge for longer than you were willing to admit to yourself. You felt like the type of people you so despised. Checking others out as if they were a freshly cooked steak. You took your self disgust as a cue to avert your ever-more interested eyes.
But that glance was all you needed for your mind to spin.
Sadly, said glance was also all he needed too.
âYouâre as a subtle as a brickâ
He broke the silence. Your face immediately flushing, albeit subtly. Ironic.
âDonât pretend I havenât caught you getting more than an eyeful of all the women in this office. They should put you on a damn leashâÂ
she retorted. Shifting in her stance to cross one ankle over the other as her back arched off the door in return. Your poor shirt straining against your full chest at the movement. The small gaps in the fabric give a clear enough view to see the ash grey bra you wore. This time it was the bateman's hungry eyes drinking in the sight.
âDressing for comfort over appearances? Maybe you're not as much of a slut as I thoughtâ
You scoffed at his comment. Running her hand through her hair once more before responding, reluctantly.
âProving my damn pointâ
âI never said I didnât. Keep up.â
You felt your fists clench in self restraint as he continued nonchalantly insulting you. One of the many reasons you fantasised about the man begging for mercy from you. In any and all ways. Who could blame you though, right?
Entertaining him with a response would both add to your annoyance and his smugness, so you decided against it. The fact he continued shouldnât have been a surprise. And this time he took a step closer.
âYou should wear lace tomorrow. Black, balconette style. Easier on the eyesâ
He quips. It did nothing but make your damn blood boil. you were always quick to react.
âDo you ever shut the fuck up?â
The scoff scoff drew a twitch from his eye. It was barely noticeable but enough to make her feel proud for getting a reaction.
âI was thinking the same about you. Although Iâm sure it would be easy enough to make youâ
âWhat do you m-â
You were cut off by a strong hand lacing in your hair and tugging you to the side sharply. Your head kept to the left, the side of your neck exposed. And much to your surprise, the movement drew a involuntary whimper from her throat
âhmm.â
he took another step closer so his body kept you cornered against the door of the lift. His grip tightening in your hair and pulling you down further. your hands darting up the grab his wrist in a feeble attempt to get away from him
âGet your damn hands off you me you sick bastard-â
you were once again cut off. His free hand strikes you hard across the face and draws another, more pained whimper from her. A grimace formed on your lips as the sting flooded the sensitive flesh of your cheek. And you glared up at him.Â
He showed nothing. Not even a smirk. And despite it all, the dreaded ache of arousal coiled in the dip of your pelvis in a way you've never felt before.Â
Your breath was heavier, hotter. And then he finally chuckled. It was mocking with nothing real behind it. More a show of dominance than anything else.
âThis will pass time I guess. Kneel, whoreâ
You whined in response to his venom laced words. Shaking your head as much as you could with his grip still in your hair, as strong as it was. To nobodyâs amazement, this didnât sit well with the man.
He wrapped a leg to coil around yours before giving you a sharp jab in the back of the knee with his heel. Taking a swift step back to give you enough room to fall to your knees. His hand never leaves your hair for even a second.
âI can see it in your eyes. Dont lie to me.â
Before your protests could leave your mind, heâd already unzipped and unbuttoned his slacks. Freeing his almost concerningly hard erection. He really was getting off on forcing this out of you. And to your disgust, you were too.
Without a second thought you presented your open mouth for fucking. Your rational thought now completely clouded by arousal and you accepted this was in fact happening. And he accepted the invitation with open arms, and legs. Invading your mouth with his painfully large cock.Â
You gagged, the result of his negligent speed of thrusting into your mouth and instantly hitting the back of your throat.Â
the feeling of your throat tightening around him in attempts to purge him of your insides was almost euphoric. Expressing his pleasure in an almost inaudible grunt.Â
He used his grip on your locks to guide your head to meet his thrusts. Beginning to fuck your face as if you were nothing but a toy to him. And it suited you. That was all you were to the tall, brunette businessman taking advantage of your less and savoury kinks.
His pace increased. The spare, large and veined hand of his bracing himself against the door of the elevator you were once leant on. your satisfyingly tight throat meeting every snap of his hips.Â
You moaned around him. The depraved noise sends a subtle vibration right through him.Â
âDo that again..-â
He spoke between the heavy breaths synced with his thrusts. And you knew it wasn't a polite request. And you happily, instinctively obliged. More moans being forced from your Pre-cum soaked throat.
He never lost control of his thrusts. The only thing he gave as warning of his climax was the distended groan he let out before his grip on your hair tightened very painfully. Soon your throat was warmed and coated in ribbons of cum. And he glared down at you. A silent demand you followed almost eagerly. Taking great care to keep your eyes locked with his as you swallowed every last drop. within two attempts. It was difficult while he was still in your mouth.
He removed his cock eventually after he was satisfied youâd taken him fully. And as quickly as it all happened, his tailored slacks were zipped up once more and his back was against the far lift wall.
Your jaw was left aching. Your expensive lipstick smudged down your chin and mascara gathering at the corner of your eyes. But you stood. The action of you standing made you realise the lift was moving up again. That trademark ding ringing out as you finish readjusting your skirt.
You turned around just as the door slid open. Wordlessly pushing past the people crowded around waiting to see if you were both ok. You hoped you walked fast enough that your ruined makeup looked like the blur of movement.Â
But Just before you were out of earshot, you heard that painfully familiar voice ring out from behind you
âMaybe you couldnât read my mind but I sure as hell read yoursâ
You hated that he was right.

Race Weekend 1 â Bahrain Grand Prix
The paddock was alive with a low hum of tension and excitement, the air saturated with the distinct scent of burning rubber and gasoline.
You had been here before, in different categories as a rising talent in the motorsport world, but Formula 1 was a whole new arena. Walking through the Red Bull Racing garage you felt the weight of the world pressing down on you. This wasnât just a race, it was your first F1 race weekend, and to top it off your teammate was none other than Max Verstappen, the reigning World Champion.
Max's reputation preceded him. The fierce competitor, a driver with an almost inhuman ability to push his car beyond the limits, appearing to be in a league of his own. Now he was your teammate or, more realistically, you were his teammate. It was his team, his title on the line, and you were just the rookie fresh to the team and to some extent an uninvited guest in his house.
As you stepped into the garage you caught a glimpse of Max. He was sitting with his usual air of intense concentration, eyes fixed on the telemetry data on his tablet as if he could solve every on-track issue with sheer force of will. His dirty blonde hair peeked out from under his cap. For a moment your eyes met, and a flicker of something passed between you. It wasnât friendly. A short, curt nod was all he gave you before returning to his data, as if you were a distraction not worth his time.
You took a deep breath, trying to shake off the nerves gnawing at your insides. No one said this would be easy. Max was a World Champion, he didnât have time for rookies.
Your debut race weekend came at you fast, a blur of press conferences, strategy meetings, and practice sessions. The eyes of the motorsport world were on you, and the pressure was immense. You had qualified a respectable eighth, but Max was on pole. It wasnât just a gap in pace â it was a chasm. Still, for your first race it wasnât bad, or at least thatâs what you kept telling yourself.
Sunday, and the garage was bustling with energy, staff buzzing around like a well-oiled machine. Everyone knew their place. Everyone except you it seemed.
You were sitting in the team motorhome, staring at your race strategy when Max finally broke the silence between you.
âNervous?â he asked, though the way he phrased it didnât leave much room for a simple yes or no. His tone was casual, but his gaze remained laser-focused, almost challenging.
You looked up from your tablet, startled. He hadnât said more than a few words to you all weekend. âNot particularly,â you replied, keeping your voice even.
Maxâs lips quirked into a smirk, but there was no warmth in it. âGood. Nervous drivers make mistakes.â
You raised an eyebrow, unsure if this was advice or a thinly veiled insult. âIâve been racing a long time Max.â
âThis isnât F2,â he replied smoothly.
âI know how to drive,â you shot back, feeling a flicker of irritation rise up inside you.
Max studied you for a moment as if weighing his next words carefully. âSure. Just don't get in my way.â
And with that he stood up, grabbing his helmet and walking out of the motorhome without another word. You watched him go, your jaw clenched. He was right this wasnât F2, but you werenât going to let him dismiss you like someone who didnât belong here.
The race itself was brutal. Max dominated from start to finish, winning with the same ruthless efficiency that had earned him the title. Meanwhile, you struggled. The car felt unbalanced, the tyres didnât last as long as youâd hoped, and you made a few rookie mistakes costing you valuable positions. You finished with just one measly point, a disheartening tenth place.
As you walked back into the garage, still buzzing with the adrenaline of the race you could feel the weight of everyoneâs eyes on you. Max was already there sitting with his engineers discussing his race. He didnât acknowledge you, didnât even glance in your direction.
You slumped into your chair, exhausted and frustrated. Everyone tried to cheer you up telling you it was a good effort for your first race, but the disappointment gnawed at you. You didnât come here to finish tenth. You wanted to be on the podium, fighting for wins, not languishing in the midfield.
From across the garage, Maxâs voice cut through the noise. He was talking to his race engineer, but his words stung as if they were meant directly for you.
âThey need to focus on my initial concerns,â he said, his tone casual but firm. âWe donât have time to worry about the rookies issues right now.â
You clenched your fists, the frustration building. It wasnât just about the race anymore. It was about proving that you belonged here, that you could stand toe-to-toe with him. Max might be the reigning champion, but you werenât going to let him walk all over you.
Race Weekend 4 - Japanese Grand Prix Qualifying
You stormed into the garage ripping off your helmet in frustration. Your heart was still pounding, not just from the high-speed laps but from the seething anger simmering under your skin. No matter how much you pushed yourself, Max was always one step ahead. The gap felt minimal, fractions of a second, but it might as well have been a canyon.
Max was already there, cool and composed, his pole position nothing out of the ordinary. He was talking with one of the engineers, a slight smirk tugging at his lips like he had already forgotten about the rest of the field. About you.
You could feel your blood boiling. The way he acted so untouchable, so certain of his superiority. Without thinking you marched toward him, your voice sharper than you intended.
"What's your secret Verstappen?" you asked, sarcasm dripping from every word. "Is it the car, or just pure luck?"
Max glanced over his shoulder, his expression unbothered. He raised an eyebrow that infuriating smirk growing. "Luck? Is that what you're going with?"
You crossed your arms, glaring at him. "Iâm just trying to figure out how someone so smug manages to stay on top."
He turned to face you fully now, a look of mild amusement playing across his features. "Maybe it's not that complicated. Maybe Iâm just better."
The arrogance in his voice was like fuel to the fire, and you took a step closer, your jaw clenched. "Or maybe youâre just used to coasting because no oneâs challenged you here. Youâre not untouchable, Max."
Maxâs smirk faded slightly his blue eyes narrowing as he took a step toward you. "You think youâre the one to change that? Face it, you're good, but you're not there yet. Youâre reckless, always pushing too hard. Itâs gonna cost you eventually."
His words cut deeper than you expected. They werenât just taunts they felt like a judgment, like he had already written you off. But you werenât about to let him get inside your head.
"At least Iâm not afraid to take risks," you shot back.
Maxâs eyes flashed, and for a moment something darker crossed his face, something serious. "This isnât a game you know. Thereâs no room for mistakes here. Youâre playing with fire, and if you keep going the way you are youâre going to burn out."
His words hung in the air between you, the tension crackling like static. He wasnât mocking you anymore, this was something else, something more intense. You didnât know if he was trying to warn you or challenge you, but either way you werenât backing down.
"Iâd rather burn out than fade away," you said, your voice hard.
Max didnât reply immediately, but his eyes locked on yours, unblinking. There was something unreadable in his expression, like he was seeing you in a new light, but it was hard to tell if it was respect or frustration.
"Just stay out of my way," he finally said, his voice quiet but charged. Then he turned, walking away, leaving you standing there with your pulse racing and your fists clenched.
You watched him go, the frustration and anger still swirling inside you. He was wrong about youâyou werenât going to burn out. But something about his words stuck with you, lingering long after heâd walked away, like an unwanted echo in the back of your mind.
Race Weekend 6 - Spanish Grand Prix
The race had ended hours ago, but the irritation still churned in your chest. Sitting in the team briefing room, the air between you and Max was thick with tension, as had become the norm. All you could hear was the pounding of your own heart, still replaying the near-collision between you and Max in your head.
Max sat across the table, leaning back in his chair, arms crossed, his expression unreadable. It was like nothing got to him, like the chaos on the track didnât even phase him. The way he remained so calm, so detached, only made your anger burn hotter.
Most of the engineers finally left the room and the door clicked shut behind them. The silence that followed was suffocating. You couldnât hold back anymore.
"Next time," you snapped, your voice cutting through the quiet, "try not to run me off the track."
Max didnât even flinch, he looked at you his expression infuriatingly calm. "Youâre exaggerating."
"Exaggerating?" you exclaimed, your voice rising. "You practically forced me off the track at Turn 8! If I hadnât backed off, weâd have both been out of the race."
Max sighed, leaning forward, his elbows resting on the table. "Itâs racing. Hard racing. If you canât handle it, maybe you should reconsider what youâre doing here."
You clenched your fists under the table, every muscle in your body tensing. You knew part of the anger was stemming from knowing there was truth to his words, but you weren't going to admit that anytime soon.
"I can handle hard racing just fine," you shot back. "What I canât handle is you acting like youâre the only one who deserves to be here. Iâm your teammate Max, not your punching bag."
Maxâs eyes darkened, and for the first time, you saw something else behind his cool exteriorâannoyance, maybe even anger. "Teammate?" he repeated, his voice colder now. "You donât act like one. You drive like youâre the only person on the track."
You laughed bitterly, unable to hold it in. "Thatâs rich, coming from you. Youâve spent this whole season so far treating me like Iâm not even worth your time. Itâs like you canât stand the idea of someone else being good enough to challenge you."
Max stood up abruptly, the chair scraping against the floor. His sudden movement startled you, but you didnât back down.
"Challenge me?" he said, his voice low but sharp. "This isnât about some petty rivalry. Youâre reckless. You donât think about the bigger picture. You only care about beating me, and itâs going to get someone hurtâprobably you."
His words stung more than you expected. It wasnât just that he thought you werenât good enough. It was the way he said it, like he didnât believe youâd ever be more than a threat to yourself.
"You think I donât know what Iâm doing?" you asked, your voice shaking with anger now. "You think Iâm just some rookie whoâs out of their depth?"
Max didnât answer right away. He just stood there staring at you with those piercing blue eyes, like he was trying to figure you out but couldnât. The silence stretched on heavy and suffocating.
Then, finally, he spoke. "I think youâre talented," he admitted, his voice quieter now, but no less intense. "But you let your emotions get the better of you. You take unnecessary risks because youâre trying to prove something."
His words cut deep, hitting a nerve you hadnât expected. He wasnât just criticising your driving anymore, he was questioning you, the way you handled everything. And what stung the most was that part of you feared he might be right.
You stood up, matching his stance refusing to show any weakness. "I donât need a lecture from you Max. Youâre not perfect either."
Maxâs jaw tightened, and for a split second, you thought you saw something flicker across his face, hurt? But just as quickly it was gone, replaced by that familiar steely expression.
"Maybe Iâm not," he said.
The room felt like it was closing in on you, the air thick with unresolved tension. You wanted to say something, anything, to break through the wall between you, but the anger and frustration clouded your thoughts, you could feel his gaze on your back as you walked out of the room. You slammed the door behind you, the sound echoing down the empty hallway.
Race Weekend 8 â Monaco Grand Prix
You and Max had barely spoken during practice, though the tension was undeniable. He still had that smug look on his face, his confidence oozing off him as you wiped the sweat from your forehead. You could feel your heart beating just a little faster, though youâd never admit it was anything but adrenaline.
As you sat down in the garage, peeling off your gloves, Max passed by.
"Not bad, rookie," he said casually. "Though, I almost expected you to spin out in Turn 4. You were practically kissing the barriers."
You raised an eyebrow, not willing to let him get the better of you. "Almost, huh? Shame you werenât close enough to see the whole thing. Maybe you could have learned something."
He snorted, leaning against the wall next to you. "Oh, trust me, I got the best view. Though Iâm still not sure if you're brave or just reckless."
You gave him a sideways glance smiling "Maybe Iâm both."
Max's eyes lingered on you for a second longer than necessary, and you could feel the weight of it. He sat back in his chair, watching you, and the silence between you grew comfortable. You caught him glancing at you again, that smirk back in place, but this time it felt... different.
"You know," he said, voice teasing, "you should smile more often. You look less intimidating when you do."
You glanced up, confused for a second. "Iâm not the one people are intimated by."
"Maybe not," he said, eyes glinting, "but youâve got your own way of getting under people's skin."
"Well, I learned from the best," you shot back without missing a beat.
Max chuckled, shaking his head. "Touché."
Race Weekend 11 â Italian Grand Prix
As the season wore on, things began to shift slowly. You had found your rhythm, steadily improving race by race. You werenât on Maxâs level, not yet, but you were consistently finishing in the points, and at times, you had even managed to challenge him during practice or qualifying. But the dynamic between you remained strained. Max was still focused on his championship, and while the outright hostility had faded there was still an undeniable tension between the two of you.
The Italian Grand Prix was one of the most iconic races of the season. Monza, the Temple of Speed, with its long straights and tight corners it was a test of both car and driver. You had qualified fourth, but once again Max was on pole. It was becoming a frustrating pattern.
After qualifying you found yourself alone in the paddock, sitting on the steps outside the motorhome. You were replaying your lap in your head over and over, trying to figure out where you could have found more time.
âStill overthinking?â Maxâs voice broke through your thoughts, and you looked up to see him standing a few feet away, his helmet under his arm.
You scoffed, shaking your head. âJust trying to figure out how to be half a second faster.â
Max walked over, sitting down beside you on the steps. âYouâre pushing too hard,â he said after a moment, his voice surprisingly soft. âYouâre overdriving the car.â
You frowned, not sure if this was another dig or actual advice. âIâm trying to make up the gap.â
âYou canât drive like that here,â he continued, his eyes scanning the empty track. âYou have to let the car come to you. If you keep forcing it, youâre going to keep making mistakes.â
You looked at him genuinely surprised. This was the first time he had offered anything resembling constructive advice. âWhy are you telling me this?â
Max didnât meet your gaze, instead looking out at the paddock. âBecause Iâve been where you are. I know what itâs like to have everything to prove.â
You paused, his words sinking in. For the first time, you realised that Max wasnât just being arrogant. He had been in your shoes once, the young driver trying to prove himself in a world that was constantly questioning if he was good enough, if he was ready.
âThanks,â you said, your voice a little quieter than usual. âIâll keep that in mind.â
Max nodded, standing up and stretching. âDonât get used to it,â he said with his familiar smirk. âI still want to beat you.â
You laughed, the tension between you easing just a little. âIâll keep that in mind too.â
The race at Monza was chaotic as expected. The high-speed circuit, combined with the aggressive nature of the drivers made for a thrilling but nerve-wracking experience. Max was fighting for the win as usual, while you were locked in a battle in the top five.
In the closing laps you found yourself side by side with a McLaren, both of you fighting tooth and nail for fourth place. It was intense, wheel-to-wheel racing, and you could feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins. But Maxâs earlier words echoed in your head. Donât overdrive. Let the car come to you.
With a deep breath you backed off slightly, biding your time, waiting for the right moment. And when it came, you seized it, pulling off a clean overtake and securing fourth place. It wasnât the podium you wanted, but it was solid result.
After the race you were exhausted, but satisfied. It wasnât a win but it was a step in the right direction. As you walked back into the garage you caught Maxâs eye. He didnât say anything, but there was a subtle nod of acknowledgment. You had his respect even if he wasnât going to say it out loud.
Race Weekend 13 - British Grand Prix
It was late in the evening, the team had thrown a small celebration after a particularly challenging but successful race for both of you. The atmosphere was relaxed, and after a few drinks you and Max found yourselves sitting together away from the others. The competitive edge was still there, but the rivalry was fading, replaced by something you couldnât quite name.
You stretched out leaning back on your hands as the warm night air brushed against your skin. Max sat next to you, closer than usual, the dim light casting soft shadows across his face.
âDo you ever feel like itâs all... too much?â you asked suddenly, surprising even yourself with the question. You werenât even sure why you asked it, but something about the late night and the quiet moment made you feel like maybe you could.
Max looked over at you, his expression unreadable for a moment. Then he nodded slowly. âSometimes. More than I admit to most people.â
The honesty in his voice caught you off guard. You turned to him, genuinely curious now. âReally? You always seem so in control...so unfazed.â
He gave a half-smile, but it didnât quite reach his eyes. âItâs all part of it, you know? The cameras, the pressure... you just get good at pretending.â
You looked at him for a moment, seeing past the champion exterior, catching a glimpse of something more vulnerable underneath. It was oddly comforting, knowing he wasnât as untouchable as youâd thought.
âWell,â you said softly, âyouâre pretty good at it. But for what itâs worth, I donât think anyoneâs really in control. Not out there.â
Max turned his head to look at you, his expression softer, more open than youâd ever seen before. âYeah,â he said quietly. âMaybe youâre right.â
There was a pause, his eyes lingered on yours, and you felt your heartbeat pick up. You quickly looked away feeling the tension crackle between you.
"Maybe youâre not quite as annoying as I first thought," you said with a light nudge, trying to break the tension with a small smirk.
Max laughed softly the sound low and surprisingly warm. "High praise coming from you."
But the way he looked at you in that moment made it clear that something had shifted between you. Neither of you said anything else for a while, just sitting there in the quiet night, side by side.
Race Weekend 14 - Dutch Grand Prix
You leaned against the railing of the teamâs paddock area, the noise of celebration and chatter swirling around you. It was hard not to smile. Youâd just finished in an easy second, your best race yet. It was a personal victory, a testament to all the hard work youâd put in.
But even with the adrenaline still coursing through your veins, a knot of conflicting emotions twisted in your stomach. You had to talk to Max.
As if he sensed your thoughts, you turned to see him walking toward you, a small grin on his face. It was a mix of confidence and camaraderie, and for the first time in a while, you felt less inclined to roll your eyes.
âGreat race today,â he said, his tone genuine as he leaned against the railing beside you.
âThanks,â you replied, trying to keep your voice steady. âI actually thought I mightâve had a shot at you there.â
He chuckled softly, and you felt your heart flutter at the sound. âYou were close. Just need to find a bit more speed in those corners, and youâll be there.â
You took a deep breath, the earlier tension bubbling to the surface. âYou know, it used to annoy meâhow you carried yourself, like you were always one step ahead of everyone. Like it was your birth right to be where you are and no one else could catch you.â
Max raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by your honesty. âYeah?"
You turned to face him, the excitement of the race fading into something more serious. âBut now? I get it. Youâve worked your ass off to be the best. Itâs not just about talent, itâs about everything youâve sacrificed. I can see that now. I see it everydayâ
He nodded slowly, and the atmosphere shifted between you. âItâs not easy, you know. When everyone expects you to win, and if you donât, it feels like youâve let them down.â
The vulnerability in his voice surprised you. It was a reminder that he was human too, grappling with expectations and pressure. âBut you handle it all so well,â you said, meeting his gaze. âI respect that.â
A smile ghosted across his lips. âThanks. That means a lot. Iâve noticed how hard youâve been pushing yourself this season. Itâs impressive.â
You felt warmth spread through your chest at his acknowledgment. âIâve had to, I canât just coast along. Not when youâre in the same garage.â
Maxâs expression grew serious again. âI know I was... a bit frosty at the beginning. I guess I was too focused on myself to notice how much you were putting in. I don't want this to come across wrong... but it's your first season, and I didnât want to give you any false hope thinking you could compete with me.â
You frowned slightly, you didn't want to dive into old wounds. âItâs okay. I get it.â
âNo, itâs not okay,â he said, shaking his head. âYou deserved better. I should have been more supportive. You pushed me too, you know? Itâs hard to admit, but youâve made me work harder, and I appreciate that.â
Your heart raced at his words. There was a sincerity in his tone that softened the rough edges of your previous encounters. You couldnât help but feel a surge of gratitude mixed with disbelief.
âReally?â you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
âYeah, really,â he replied. âYouâve improved more than I expected in such a short time. It takes guts to put yourself out there and challenge someone whoâs been at the top for so long.â
The air between you was charged with a mix of emotions. You nodded, âThanks for saying that Max. It means a lot to hear you acknowledge it.â
He shrugged, trying to downplay the moment, but the corners of his mouth quirked up. âWell, itâs true. Just donât get too comfortable, I still plan on beating you.â
You laughed, feeling the tension dissipate. âBring it on Verstappen. Iâll be ready.â
As you stood there, side by side, the competitive fire still smouldering between you, something shifted againâthis time, the rivalry felt more like a partnership.
Race Weekend 16 â Azerbaijan Grand Prix
It was early morning Thursday, you and Max found yourselves sitting across from each other at breakfast, still somewhat groggy from travel. The team lounge was quiet, and the two of you were left alone at the table.
âYouâre not gonna try and out-eat me too, are you?â Max asked, a teasing smile playing on his lips as he poked at his food.
You rolled your eyes. âI donât need to out-eat you Max. Iâve already out-qualified you once.â
His eyes lit up in mock offence. âOne time! Youâre never going to let that go are you?â
âNot a chance,â you said with a grin, taking a bite of your toast. âIâm framing that lap time.â
He narrowed his eyes playfully. âYouâre impossible, you know that?â
âAnd youâre too easy to mess with,â you shot back. "Honestly, it's like a gift."
Max laughed, his genuine smile making your stomach flip in a way you couldnât quite control. He lowered his voice conspiratorially. âIâm just letting you win the mind games. Gotta keep you feeling confident somehow.â
âOh, so youâre being generous now?â you quipped, raising an eyebrow.
âAlways,â he replied with a wink.
The playful banter was natural now, a far cry from the sharp edges and constant tension that had defined your early relationship. There was still competition between you, but now it felt like something that pushed you both forward, rather than tearing you apart.
And as you exchanged another playful jab, you couldnât help but notice the way both your eyes kept catching each other.
Race Weekend 17 â Singapore Grand Prix
The garage had emptied out, leaving behind only the quiet hum of cooling equipment and the faint clatter of distant tools. A rough race, nothing had gone the way you wanted.
Across the room Max was fiddling with his helmet, but you could tell he wasnât focused on it. He glanced over at you, then slowly made his way to where you were sitting.
âYou okay?â His voice was softer than usual.
You didnât answer at first, still staring down at your hands trying to shrug off the defeat. âYeah. Just... it wasnât my day.â
Max nodded, his gaze steady. âIt happens,â he said simply, but there was something in his tone that made you look up.
You sighed, the frustration bubbling over. âI know, but it feels different... I thought I was ready to take that next step the consistency was finally thereâŠand then it just comes crashing back down.â
Max was quiet for a moment and when he spoke again there was a warmth in his voice. âThis is a brutal track don't be too hard on yourself. Youâve been doing everything you can, I promise it shows.â
You looked at him, meeting his eyes. âIt doesnât feel like enough.â
Maxâs gaze softened, and he took a step closer his hand brushing lightly against your arm. âTrust me, it is.â
The simple touch sent a jolt through you, something unspoken passing between you in that small, fleeting contact. You opened your mouth to respond, but before you could say anything Max moved even closer, and in a moment that felt both surprising and natural, he pulled you into a hug.
At first, you were too stunned to react. The sudden closeness, the warmth of his body against yoursâit caught you off guard. But then you felt the solid weight of his arms around you, and you melted into the embrace, resting your head against his shoulder. His body was firm, steady, grounding you in a way that made the tension of the day seem to fade.
The hug wasnât rushed, it lingered, the quiet between you filled with something heavier than words. But the feel of him, his arms around you, his breath steady against your temple was hard to ignore.
You werenât sure if it was the exhaustion, the frustration, or something else entirely, but suddenly you were hyper-aware of every movement, the way his breath hitched slightly when you leaned into him, the subtle way his hand trailed down your back before settling again at your waist.
Maxâs hands tightened slightly around you, his fingers brushing against the fabric of your shirt. You felt his chin rest lightly on top of your head, and there was something in the way his body pressed against yours that sent your pulse racing.
For a moment it was just the two of you, the rest of the world forgotten. You could feel his heartbeat, steady but strong, and the closeness between you felt almost electric. You werenât sure who would pull away first, or if either of you even wanted to.
When you finally pulled back neither of you moved far, your faces still inches apart. His hands lingered at your waist, and your breath caught when you saw the way his eyes flickered, just briefly, to your lips.
Neither of you said anything, but the way his fingers flexed slightly against your waist, the subtle tilt of his head, made it clear that you both felt it.
Your heart was pounding, the space between you charged. You could see it in his eyes, the question, the pull, but he didnât act on it. Instead, he gave you a small almost imperceptible smile before he finally let go.
âYouâre going to be fine,â he said, his voice quieter than before.
âYeah,â you managed, trying to ignore the way your body still hummed from the closeness. âI know.â
Race Weekend 18 - Qatar Grand Prix
It was one of those rare nights when the team wasnât focused on race strategy or technical debriefs. After a relentless set of races, the team had gathered at a low-lit restaurant lounge for a relaxed evening. Laughter and conversation flowed freely around the long table, and for once the entire team seemed at ease.
You were sitting with a few people and one of the mechanics Adam, was regaling everyone with a wildly exaggerated story about a mishap during a pit stop in his rookie year.
Max was sitting a few seats away, engrossed in a discussion with some of the team, but his eyes kept darting over to you, his gaze narrowing slightly as he observed the scene. His shoulders were tense, and the easygoing expression heâd worn earlier in the evening was replaced by something more guarded. It wasnât like Max to be this quiet at team gatherings, and you were too distracted to notice at first, focused instead on Adam's ongoing tale.
But the shift in atmosphere caught your attention eventually. As you laughed at another one of Adam's jokes you glanced over to find Max staring your way, his jaw set. He quickly looked away, and downed the rest of his drink in one swift motion.
Curious, you turned back to Adam, who was obliviously leaning in a little closer still chuckling at his own story. And then Max was suddenly standing up, making his way around the table and pulling up a chair directly beside you, a smile plastered on his face that didnât quite reach his eyes.
âHey,â Max greeted, his smile a little forced but convincing enough. âWhatâs going on over here then? Everyone seems to be having fun.â
Adam grinned and gave him a friendly nod. âJust telling some old war stories. You know how it is.â
âOh, I bet,â Max replied.
You noticed it right away, especially the way he seemed intent on steering the conversation. âAdam was just telling me about his first-ever pit stop disaster,â you explained still smiling. âItâs been quite entertaining.â
âIâm sure it has,â Max said, but his gaze flickered to Adam again something unreadable in his eyes.
Adam glanced between the two of you, sensing the shift, and gave you a friendly smile before excusing himself to join another group. You watched him go, then turned back to Max noticing the tension still in his jaw.
âSo, you came all the way over here to save me from pit lane stories?â you questioned.
Max shrugged, his expression casual. âI just didnât want you to get bored. Thought you might appreciate something a bit more... entertaining.â
You turned to look at him, amused. âUh-huh, or maybe you just didnât want to be left out of the conversation.â
âMaybe. But I was doing you a favour, trust me. Youâd have heard all of Adamâs best stories in the first five minutes.â He rolled his eyes.
"Seriously, whatâs up?" you asked, genuinely confused by his behaviour.
Max didnât respond immediately, instead glancing around the table, making sure no one was listening too closely before he spoke. "Nothing. Just... noticed you were getting along pretty well with Adam. I didnât think he was was your type.â
You blinked, surprised by the unexpected comment. âOh?â you replied, raising an eyebrow. âAnd what makes you think you know my type?â
Max shrugged, the corner of his mouth twitching up. âJust an observation,â he said.
You laughed, shaking your head. âIs that so? And what exactly do you think my type is Max?â
He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "I donât know." He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping lower. âI'd guess someone who doesnât just talk big but can actually back it up. You know, a real challenge.â
You felt a flicker of heat rush through you at his words, the playful banter quickly taking on a different tone. âA challenge, huh?â you teased. âFunny, I donât remember you being all that interested in challenges off the track.â
Max's grin widened, his eyes glinting with amusement. âI guess youâve been paying attention to the wrong things then.â
Your breath faltered, and for a second you wondered if he was going to say something else, if he was going to push this conversation into territory you hadnât quite prepared for. But then, just as quickly as it started Max leaned back, breaking the moment with a light laugh.
âDonât overthink it,â he teased with a grin. âYouâll hurt yourself.â
You laughed lightly, shaking your head at his familiar cockiness. âYouâre impossible.â
Max just grinned wider. âThat's what they tell me.â
For a few minutes you fell into an easy rhythm of teasing each other, the tension from earlier fading completely. Max shifted closer, his knee brushing against yours under the table.
âSo, what are you going to do for the break?â he asked, his gaze lingering on your face.
You shrugged, trying to ignore the flutter in your stomach at the way he was looking at you. âProbably just spend some time with family, maybe catch up on some sleep. What about you?â
âHmm, Iâm not sure yet,â he said thoughtfully. âMight go back to Monaco, or maybe not. Depends.â
âDepends on what?â you asked, raising an eyebrow.
Max met your gaze, his expression unreadable for a moment. âDepends on if thereâs anything... interesting keeping me around.â
There was a challenge in his eyes that sent a shiver down your spine.
âOr, maybe Iâll just catch up on sleep too,â he added with a wink, steering the conversation back into safer territory.
And before you could respond he reached out for his drink, his hand brushing yours briefly in a way that felt almost accidental. But the touch lingered, the heat of his skin against yours sending a jolt of awareness through you. Your eyes met again, and for a moment, everything else seemed to fade away, the noise of the restaurant, the people around you. It was just you and Max, the world narrowing down to that single point of contact.
Race Weekend 20 â US Grand Prix
The Padel court was quiet, bathed in the late afternoon sun as you and Max stood on opposite sides of the net. This was meant to be a fun break from the track to let off some steam, but the second you both picked up your paddles it became clear neither of you were about to take it easy.
Heâd been chirping at you since you got here, claiming he was going to wipe the floor with you. But youâd heard that song before.
"You sure youâre ready for this?" Max called from the other side of the net, casually tossing the ball up and catching it, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "I mean, you can still back out. No shame in admitting defeat early."
You gave him a deadpan look, adjusting your grip on the paddle. "You talk way too much for someone whoâs about to lose."
Max rested against his paddle, flashing that familiar smirk. "Iâm just letting you believe you have a chance. Keeps things interesting."
You served the ball with a sharp flick of your wrist, sending it careening over the net. Max responded quickly, returning it with ease. The ball bounced between you, a quick exchange of volleys. His movements were swift, confident, but you werenât about to let him get the upper hand so easily.
"Nice try," Max said after you missed a ball that bounced just out of reach. "You almost looked like you knew what you were doing there."
"Careful Verstappen," you shot back, repositioning yourself for the next rally. "Iâm just warming up."
Max laughed, shaking his head. "If I didnât know any better, Iâd say youâre getting frustrated."
"I donât get frustrated," you countered, serving the ball again, aiming straight for his side.
"Oh, you definitely do." He easily returned it, the smirk on his face only growing as you both rallied.
You grinned, already feeling the familiar rush of competition surging through you. This wasnât racing, but it had the same energyâthe need to outmanoeuvre, outthink, outplay. And if there was one thing you and Max did well it was push each otherâs limits.
"You're really going to make me run for it, huh?" Max panted as he lunged to return a low ball, his paddle barely grazing it.
You smirked. "Wouldn't want you to get too comfortable."
After a particularly long rally, you smashed a shot just out of his reach, winning the point. Max groaned throwing his head back dramatically. "Unbelievable."
You pumped your fist, grinning from ear to ear. "And thatâs how itâs done."
"Okay, okay," he wheezed, though his eyes were still bright with amusement. "Iâll give you that one. But donât think Iâm letting you win."
"Letting me win?" you repeated, wiping the sweat from your brow. "Thatâs cute Max."
Max walked to the net, shaking his head in mock disbelief. "Alright, you got lucky. One point, Iâll give you that."
"One point?" you scoffed, meeting him at the net. "Try four."
"Technicalities," he muttered, but the grin on his face betrayed his playful frustration. He watched you with a glint in his eye. "You know, youâre a lot better at this than I thought."
"Coming from you that means so much." you said dryly.
Max chuckled, his gaze still lingering on you. There was a moment of quiet, the sun casting long shadows on the court, the air between you thick with a kind of unspoken understanding.
"Youâre not so bad yourself," you added, breaking the silence but not the tension. "For a guy who spends most of his free time gaming."
Max raised an eyebrow laughing again. "That supposed to be a compliment?"
You shrugged. "Take it however you want."
His grinned. "I think Iâll take it as a compliment."
Before you could reply, he stepped back, tossing the ball in the air. "Alright, rematch. Best two out of three. Iâm not letting you walk away with that win."
"You just canât handle losing to me can you?" you teased, taking your position, ready for another round. "Iâm starting to think you just like seeing me sweat."
He chuckled, but the way his eyes lingered on you for a beat longer said more than his words did. "Youâre not wrong."
You scoffed, rolling your eyes, but there was no denying the subtle shift in the air. It wasnât obvious or overt, but the dynamic between you had changed in the last few weeks. The teasing was still there, but there was a different kind of energy between you now, one that neither of you had quite acknowledged yet.
You cleared your throat, stepping back and spinning the ball in your hand. "Letâs finish this then. Iâve got a winning streak to keep."
Maxâs grin returned, but it was softer now, less competitive and more⊠something else. "Weâll see about that."
Race Weekend 22 â Brazil Grand Prix
On race day, the tension was palpable. The roar of engines, the smell of burning rubber, and the hum of adrenaline filled the air. Max was standing next to his car helmet in hand, the pre-race jitters barely showing on his face. You caught his eye from across the garage, and for a moment, the world seemed to quiet around you.
You approached, trying to shake off the strange tension that always seemed to linger between the two of you lately. Maxâs gaze met yours, steady but with an intensity that made your breath catch for just a second.
âReady to lose today?â you asked, trying to keep things light, but your voice sounded a little shakier than youâd intended.
Max smirked, stepping closer than necessary. âIn your dreams.â
You tried to roll your eyes, but the proximity made it hard to focus. There was a heat in his gaze and you found yourself holding your breath for a moment.
âDonât get too cocky Verstappen,â you muttered, the playful tone masking the way your pulse raced.
He leaned in just close enough that you could feel the warmth radiating from him. âI think thatâs your job now.â
For a second, it felt like everything had stoppedâthe noise, the chaos of the track, all fading into the background. But just as quickly the moment passed, and Max stepped back sliding his helmet on.
âSee you at the finish line,â he said over his shoulder.
You stood there for a second longer trying to steady your breath, knowing that this race and whatever was happening between you two was far from over.
End of the Season â Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
The season had been a rollercoaster filled with highs and lows. You had stood on the podium for the first time in Canada, a moment that felt surreal after all the hard work. But there had also been heartbreak, a crash in Austria that had cost you valuable points, a mechanical failure in Mexico that had seen you retire from a race where you could have scored big.
Through it all your relationship with Max had continued to evolve. You still raced on track, fighting for every inch of tarmac, but off the track things had changed. There was mutual respect, an understanding that had grown over the course of the season. The animosity that had once defined your relationship was gone, replaced by something more complicated.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the final race of the season, and the championship was on the line. Max was in a tight battle for the title, and the pressure on both of you was immense.
The night before the race you found Max sitting alone in the team motorhome, staring out at the glowing lights of the Yas Marina Circuit. He looked unusually quiet, his usual air of confidence tempered by the gravity of the situation.
âYou ready for tomorrow?â you asked, leaning against the doorway.
Max didnât look at you, his eyes still focused on the track outside. âAs ready as Iâll ever be.â
You stepped inside, sitting down across from him*. âYouâre going to win it.â*
Max finally turned to face you, a small, almost tired smile on his face. âYou sound pretty sure of that.â
âIâve watched you all season. No oneâs better than you out there,â you said simply, meaning every word.
Max shook his head, letting out a short laugh. âYouâre not so bad yourself you know.â
You raised an eyebrow.
He shrugged, a playful glint in his eye. âDonât let it go to your head.â
You had fought hard to get to this point, and though Max was still your fiercest competition, he was also the one person who, you now realised, might understand you better than anyone else.
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix â Race Day
Race day was electric, the air crackling with anticipation. The championship battle had come down to this â the final race of the season, and everything was on the line. Max was in contention for the title, but his rival wasnât far behind. Every lap, every pit stop, every decision mattered.
You were focused on your own race, but there was an underlying pressure you couldnât ignore. Max needed you to perform today. If you could help him by holding off the cars behind, or making sure the team strategy worked in his favour, you would.
The race itself was a blur. The car felt good and you pushed hard, determined to finish the year on a high.
As the laps ticked down, the tension in the pit lane grew. Max was leading, but his rival was closing in behind you, and the team was on a knifes-edge. Then, with just a few laps to go, you got the call from your engineer.
âWe need you to hold position, keep the cars behind you. Max needs this.â
Your heart pounded in your chest. It wasnât the call you wanted to hear, but you understood. This was the team game. You werenât fighting for the championship, but Max was.
âGot it,â you replied, gritting your teeth as you focused on the task ahead.
For the next few laps, you fought with everything you had to keep the cars behind you, giving Max the breathing room he needed. It was arguably the hardest race of your life, the pressure almost unbearable. But when the checkered flag finally fell, you had done it.
Max crossed the line first, securing the championship, and you finished in a solid second place.
The roar of the crowd was deafening, fireworks lighting up the sky as Max stood on the podium, the World Champion once again. You watched him celebrate, a mixture of pride and satisfaction swelling in your chest. You hadnât won, but in a way you had still achieved something important. You had proven that you could compete at this level, that you could stand with the best.
Later that night, after all the celebrations had died down you found Max sitting alone in the quiet garage, his championship trophy resting beside him.
âNot partying with the team?â you asked.
Max looked up, his face still glowing with the satisfaction of victory. âNeeded a minute,â he said, his voice soft.
You stepped inside, sitting down beside him. âYou did it,â you said, a small smile on your lips.
Max glanced at you, his blue eyes filled with something deeper than just the thrill of winning. âWe did it,â he corrected, his voice sincere.
For a long moment, neither of you spoke. The weight of the season, the challenges you had both faced, the fights on and off the track â it all hung in the air between you. But there was no tension now, no rivalry. Just understanding.
âYou really helped me today,â Max said after a while, his voice quiet but firm. âI couldnât have done it without you.â
You shrugged, trying to play it off, but his words meant more to you than youâd expected. âJust doing my job.â
Max chuckled, shaking his head. âYou did more than that.â
You turned to face him fully, your knees brushing against his, the closeness between you suddenly palpable. His eyes were on you, and the look he gave you sent a shiver down your spine.
You met his gaze smiling, the two of you had been through so much together, and now, sitting in the quiet aftermath of victory, it felt like the beginning of something new.
But then the playful smile faded, replaced by a more intense expression. His gaze flickered, dropping to your lips for just a fraction of a second, but it was enough to send your heart racing.
The space between you seemed to shrink. You felt your breath hitch as Max shifted closer, the warmth of his body brushing against yours. His hand moved, almost hesitantly, to your arm, his fingers grazing your skin in a way that made every nerve in your body stand on end.
You could feel it now, the weight of everything unsaid, everything that had built up over the season, all the unspoken moments between you. It was all right there, in the way his hand lingered on your arm, the way his breath caught as his eyes met yours again, more intensely this time.
âYouâre not bad at this whole teammate thing,â Max murmured, his voice low.
You rolled your eyes, but the banter was thin now, the words barely a distraction from the way your heart was pounding in your chest. âI guess you're not so bad yourself.â
Maxâs smile faded again, his gaze serious, and for a moment, everything else fell away. The garage, the race, the entire championship, none of it mattered. It was just the two of you, sitting there in the quiet.
And then, before you could even process what was happening, Max leaned in.
It was slow at first, as if he was giving you time to pull away, but you didnât. You couldnât. His lips hovered just above yours, the space between you almost unbearable, and then finally he closed the distance.
The kiss was soft at first, tentative, but it didnât stay that way for long. There was too much between you for it to be gentle. His hand came up to cup the back of your neck, pulling you closer as the kiss deepened, and you felt your body respond, your heart pounding in your ears.
It wasnât a kiss born out of victory or celebration. It was something else, something more intense, like all the tension, the rivalry, the unspoken moments between you had finally come to a head. It was raw, charged, and for a moment, it felt like the world had stopped spinning around you.
When you finally pulled back, breathless, Maxâs forehead rested against yours, his eyes still closed as he let out a shaky breath.
Neither of you spoke for a long moment. There was a shift now, something irrevocable between you, but it felt right. Like this was where you were always meant to end up.
âYou know,â Max murmured, his voice barely above a whisper, âNext yearâs going to be interesting.â
You let out a breathless laugh, still trying to catch your breath. âYou have no idea.â you teased, nudging him with your shoulder. âNext year, Iâm coming for you.â
Max grinned. âIâd like to see you try.â
And as you sat there, still wrapped up in each other you couldnât help but smile. The season may have ended, but the story between you and Max was far from over.

The breakup between Aemond and you was mutually decided. Both of you were quite busy with your jobs and barely had time for each other anymore, which ended in a lot of arguments. Many of them were based on miscommunication or if anyone of you felt like the other one wasnât giving them enough attention and love. This was the reason why you both mutually decided to break up after youâve been together for a few years, both of you thinking it was the best decision during this time.
You still loved and cared for each other, but it wasnât the right time to be with each other, as each one of you had a stressful period of your life, and the constant arguments outweighed most of the soft moments between you. You tried to be each otherâs support, but it ended up in the opposite way during this time. It was clear, to everyone who knew you, that you two were still longing for each other over the months since you broke up. You tried dating other people in hopes you could fill the void that has been there ever since you parted ways, but it didnât work out for either of you.
Aemond and you shared the same group of friends, or at least shared a few friends that hang out together every two to three weeks. Two times you and Aemond invited the people you were seeing to hang out with your friends. Meaning you and him would see each other as well. This didnât work out quite well because the people you were seeing noticed how you and Aemond constantly looked in each otherâs direction. They quickly realized that neither Aemond nor you stopped loving one another or knew that you still had some sort of feelings for the other one, even if you both tried to ignore or deny it, you knew the truth.
Your friends noticed this longing dynamic between you two ever since you told them that you decided to part ways for now. No one could say that they didnât see the longing stares both of you had whenever the other one wasnât looking, or the gentle touches you had on each other from time to time that were just lingering quite too long for friends.
Many times, Aemond would ask his sister, Helaena, who was one of your closest friends, if you had already found someone else or how you were doing. Especially if he noticed that you seemed off one day you and your friends hung out, heâd immediately try to find a moment to get to text or talk to Helaena alone and ask her about it. If she was able to tell him something, she would give him a few details. And you would do the same if you noticed something different about him and asked Helaena most of the time. Sometimes you would go to Aegon, in hopes that he hopefully might know something. It would depend on the situation. It was hard to ignore or deny that you two still deeply cared about each other.
Both of you were currently hanging out with your friends again, sitting next to Helaena and having your legs over hers as you laughed with her. Watching the boys as they turned on the fire of the campfire. Aemond sat opposite from you and Helaena and tried not to look over at you too much and to focus more on the conversation he had with one of your friends. It was a cozy and quiet night; everyone was having a good time. Helaena excused herself for a moment to get herself another drink as you took a swig from your own bottle. You noticed how she slightly nodded in Aemondâs direction as she went back into the kitchen of the house. A few seconds later, you saw how he slowly walked over to you.
âCan I sit down?â He asked with a soft tone in his voice and motioned to the seat next to you. You looked up to him and nodded, slightly scooting to the side to make more room for him to sit down. Your arms brushed against one another as he sat down next to you, sending a slight shiver down your spine, but you tried to play it down and didnât pay attention to it.
You took another swig from your bottle, even if it was almost empty. You could have gotten up to get another bottle, but you didnât want to ruin the moment with Aemond. You havenât really had any conversations with him in the past few weeks, only having your eyes on each other. It was quite a comfortable atmosphere between you, as you watched the fire and listened to its crackles, but he had his eyes on you, admiring you as the fire cast a beautiful light on your face. He reached out and removed something from your hair, causing you to look at him for a moment, slightly confused. But in the short moment his fingers brushed over your hair sent a warmth through your body.
âIt was just a tiny bug,â he tried to keep his voice low. Your lips turned into a small smile, âThank you.â
Neither of you really knew what to say, you wanted to have a conversation with him, but you didnât quite know what you could talk about. You could have asked him about his life, what he was up to at the moment, but you werenât sure if he was even ready to talk about it.
As you wanted to ask something he got pulled away by Aegon. âSorry, my lady,â he had his hands on Aemondâs shoulders and grinned, âI need my brother for a moment! He will be back at your service in a moment,â he giggled, clearly drunk as he dragged Aemond away.
You sighed with a smile on your lips and didnât stop him, sometimes it was hilarious when Aegon was drunk. Occasionally, you wished things were different, but it was what you and Aemond had decided, so you must stick with it. You slowly nodded to yourself and got into the house to get another bottle, joining Helaena and completely missing the way Aemond longingly looked over to you as his brother talked his ear off.
A few hours later, you were talking with Helaena again, sitting together with Aemond on a bench in front of the campfire. He sat next to you, and you felt the warmth of the flames and his body, it was a pleasant feeling that filled you. His arm was resting behind you on the backrest of the bench you were sitting on. Helaena left you and Aemond alone for a moment after she had finished her story.
When she left, he slightly leaned into you and whispered into your ear, his voice casual. âWould you mind joining me for a drink back in my apartment?â He was nervous about how you would react. He already expected that you would refuse him, but he raised his eyebrows for a short moment as you accepted his invitation. Aemond cleared his throat and nodded, happy that you said yes.
A few minutes later you and him said your goodbyes to your friends. Helaena had a smirk on her lips as she hugged you. âDonât do anything I wouldnât do with my partner, babe,â she teased you and whispered into your ear.
He was slightly nervous as he led you to his car and opened the passenger side for you. You occasionally looked at each other during the drive to his apartment but didnât really talk with each other, perhaps both of you were too nervous?
One drink turned into two, and two into three. Both of you were slightly tipsy by now and were talking with each other as if nothing had ever happened. You sat next to each other on his couch, and he had one arm on the backrest, resting behind your head. Your legs were slightly bent in his direction. You noticed the way he looked down at them sometimes, and you wished heâd just grab them, but both of you knew that neither of you would dare to cross the line without completely knowing if the other one wanted it too. But you both wanted it deeply. The conversation died down between you a few minutes ago, youâve just looked at each other. The air had already been thick before, but it was getting worse in that very moment. You found yourself looking down on his lips, and he did too. Both of you leaned into each other but stopped when you were only a few movements away from each otherâs faces. Should you really give in to what youâve wanted ever since you broke up all these months ago or not?
You felt his breath on your face and just wanted to give in, you wanted to feel his lips on yours so badly. You could swear you stopped breathing when he carefully brushed your hair out of your face and cupped your cheek, you leaned into his touch and held his gaze.
âAemondâŠâ You dared to break the silence with a shaky whisper. You craved his touch, as much as he craved yours. Your lips were parted as your gaze went down to his lips.
âTell me to stop if you donât want it,â he looked up from your lips into your eyes to find any hesitance, but he saw the way your pupils dilated as he held your gaze again. âI donât want you to stop,â you whispered eagerly and hummed as he immediately captured your lips in a passionate and desperate kiss. Both of your tensed shoulders relaxed eventually,
His hand still cupped your cheek, stroking it with his thumb, your hand found his cheeks immediately and pulled him into you, while his other arm, which was resting on the backrest of his couch, wrapped around your waist to pull you into his lap. You straddled him and deepened the kiss as both of you opened your mouth to feel each otherâs tongue, completely losing yourselves in the kiss. Itâs what youâve both been craving, and neither of you wanted to stop the moment. You didnât want to think of the possible outcome or how it would change the current dynamic between you two, maybe you would find your way back to each other or it wouldnât change a thing. Maybe it would just stay at making out with each other, but both of you wanted and needed more.
He missed to feel your skin against his, the way your curves felt when he traced them. The way youâd always react to his touch, arching your back whenever his hand found its way between your thighs. The way you always reacted to his kisses, whether it was a more heated or soft and slow kiss. You loved each of them, and so did he. Aemond loved the way your hands felt on his skin, the way youâd always end up tracing his arms, hands or face whenever you cuddled or were next to each other. He appreciated and missed these moments with you. It may only have been a few months since you two broke up, but the more intimate moments between you had been missing way before you eventually parted ways.
Both of you slowly pulled away from each other, faces still close as you spoke against his lips. âAre you sure we should be doing this?â You whispered, your voice slightly raspy from the lack of air in your lungs. Both of his hands had found their way to your hips and gently circled his fingers on your clothed skin, squeezing your skin.
He nodded. âI⊠I just need you, darling. Iâm sure,â his voice was low and raspy as well. His good eye filled with desire as you looked at him and kissed him again. âMe too,â you whispered between kisses.
Aemond lifted you by gripping down on your thighs and placed you underneath him on the couch. He pulled away from you with a cheeky smile and kneeled in front of you as he pulled you on the edge of his couch. His hands roamed over your thighs to the button of your pants. Aemond looked up to you, slightly asking if he could continue. You nodded and didnât break eye contact with him as he slowly opened the button of your pants and motioned for you to lift your hips so he could pull off your pants. His gaze never left yours, and he noticed the way you had your lower lip between your teeth as you lifted your hips eagerly, knowing what would follow. His fingers gently traced over your now exposed skin. His lips found the skin of your hip bone, which was still covered only seconds ago. His eye closed for a moment to capture this moment in his mind.
He pressed open kisses on your covered and uncovered skin, âI missed this so much,â he mumbled as he firmly but also gently gripped down your thighs while looking up at you again, silently asking if he could part your legs. You slightly sat up and parted them, causing him to smirk and move between them. His hands brushed over the flesh of your thighs and caressed them as he slowly moved them up to brush over your panties. Your breath hitched as he brushed over your still-clothed heat.
âPlease, Aemond,â you whimpered as he teased your clothed clit with his finger while a smirk was on his lips. You hated how desperate you were for him, but you finally needed to feel him again. In every way you could have him. âDonât tease me now.â
âVery well,â he hooked his fingers with the fabric of your panties on your hips and slowly pulled them down. You lifted your hips again, so it was easier for him to take your panties off.
A soft hum left his lips as soon as he tossed your panties away and saw your already glistening heat. He leaned down and pressed more kisses on the area of your heat, but not where you needed him. It frustrated you, and that made him chuckle. He always used to love to tease you, but he knew it wasnât the perfect time for that right now, as it only tortured him as well. He couldnât wait any longer and just wanted to get his mouth on you, his growing bulge in his pants could wait for a few moments. He wanted to give you the pleasure first. A moan left your lips as soon as he pressed his lips on your clit and made eye contact with you again. Aemond took a long drag through your slit with his tongue, your mouth stayed slightly open. He groaned into you as you grabbed one of his hands that were still on your thighs and held on to him as he devoured your cunt. He missed those pretty sounds that left your lips, especially how you tasted. For a short moment his mind went completely blank.
He started sucking on your clit and licked through your folds, causing you to tighten your grip on his hand, nails digging into his skin and your moans to get louder. He flicked his tongue in long and slower licks and changed the technique every so often to a faster and shorter pace. Completely devouring everything he could get from you. You didnât even think about keeping it quiet, as it was overwhelming to feel his tongue on you. All the build-up tension over the past months is finally being relieved. Who would be better than him? No one.
You felt the all too well-known knot in your stomach, signalling that you were close to your climax. Aemond knew you were close as he noticed the way your panting increased, and your head fell back against the backrest of his couch. You cried out for more and wrapped one of your legs over his shoulder, which caused him to moan into you.
âFuckâ Aemond, Iâm close! IâŠâ Your grip on his hand tightened even more, if that was even possible, your back arched, and eyes closed as you focused on the building pleasure in your stomach.
âDonât hold yourself back, darling. Come all over my face,â he panted against your cunt and got his mouth back on your swollen clit to sloppily circle his tongue around it, savouring each second while being between your thighs. Your mind turned blank as he continued to pleasure you, he still knew how to take care of you perfectly.
A strangled moan left your lips as you came on his tongue a few moments later, your legs slightly shaking as he fucked you with his tongue through your orgasm. Aemond could swear he almost lost his mind as he heard your moan and tasted you on his tongue, his hips humping into his couch. A soft chuckle left your lips as you exhaled and looked down at him. He was still kneeling between your legs, and his chin was glistening with your arousal and some of his spit. After you gained some strength again, you leaned forward and kissed him while your hands were on his cheeks, moaning as you tasted yourself.
âYou did so well for me,â he praised you with a whisper as he pulled away from the kiss. âCan I take you to my bed or do youââ
âPlease,â you nodded eagerly with a hushed voice, âPlease do, Aemond.â
He gently picked you up, his hands digging into the skin of your thighs and placed open kisses on your exposed neck as he carried you into his bedroom, kicking the door as you were inside to close it behind him. He carefully placed you on his bed and hovered over you as he continued to kiss your neck and jaw. Your hands found the hem of his shirt and pulled on it, he moved his head away from your neck so you could pull off his shirt. You tossed it somewhere into his room, not caring about where it landed and traced his chest tenderly. He captured your lips in a kiss, his hips slightly buckling against you as you wrapped your legs around his hips to pull him closer to you. You took off the rest of your clothes from each other in a few motions, leaving both of you naked as you straddled his lap. His hands roamed over your thighs, caressing them as you leaned down to leave kisses on his chest while feeling his length underneath you.
He sharply inhaled as you wrapped one hand around his aching cock and stroked him a few times which already left him gripping down on your thighs, and he wasnât even inside you yet. You smirked because of his reaction, you understood how he felt and eventually positioned his tip at your entrance and slowly sank down on his length, feeling how he stretched your walls. A low, needy moan escaped both of your lips, your hands on his chest, holding him down on his mattress, and his were holding you by your hips. You waited a few moments before you started to roll your hips, finding a pleasant rhythm for both of you. Aemond was completely at your mercy, it took him his entire strength not to come immediately. The sounds you made and how your hands roamed over his torso only added more levels to the pleasure he felt because of you. His body shivered, and his heartbeat increased. He felt you clenching around him and groaned with a hitched sound.
âFuck you feel so good, darling,â he moaned. Your gazes met again, and you wished you could stay like this for eternity. His face was flushed, his back slightly arched, and his mouth agape as he didnât hold back any sounds anymore.
This only reminded you of the beginning of your relationship, he barely voiced any hints of his pleasure and barely made any sounds whenever you slept with each other, but over the time, he let his walls down and started to be more vocal. This meant the time you were apart didnât change that factor about him, and you loved it even more. You slightly leaned forward, feeling him deeper inside of you and grabbed his hands to intertwine your fingers, the slightly changed position adding more pleasure to both of you.
You continued to roll your hips and to hold eye contact with him, moaning his name repeatedly. After a while, you pulled him up against you, a soft gasp leaving your mouth as you captured his lips in a heated, passionate kiss, and he wrapped his arms around your waist. You wrapped your arms around his neck and stopped moving for a short moment, enjoying the close and intimate moment between you as you kissed each other. He lifted you from his cock in a quick movement, both of you whimpering at the loss of each other. He rolled on top of you and gently placed you underneath him, your legs on either side of his while he slowly slid into you again and captured your lips in a kiss again. A soft gasp left your lips, and he used the opportunity to slide his tongue into your mouth. He held him up with one arm while the other held you by your hip and thrust into you with a steady, slow pace. He swallowed your moans as he continued kissing you. You gripped on his biceps, leaving crescent marks in his skin and had your eyes shut.
He fastened his pace as he felt you clenching around him. Â âI canât get enough of you, darling,â his voice hitched as his climax neared, âI donât think I can go much longer.â
Skin slapping against each other, and moans filled the room. He nuzzled his face into the crook of your neck and placed sloppy kisses on there as his hips snapped against yours. You knew he was getting close to his climax as his movements were getting sloppier. He tried to hold on, wanting to get you close for a second time the night, but it only left him whimpering against your lips as he kissed them.
âYou can come inside me, Aemond,â you panted, your eyelids half-lidded as you met his gaze. âAre⊠Are you sure?â His breath hitched in his throat. He groaned after you nodded and lifted his head, so he could look at you as he thrusts into you once more before you felt his seed filling you up, his cock twitching inside of you.
He had a satisfied expression and moved one hand between your bodies, his thumb rubbing on your clit to get you over the edge as well while he continued to thrust into you. A cry left your mouth, and you pulled his face close to yours.
âCome for me, angel,â he exhaled.
You clenched around him, which caused him to whimper from feeling slightly overstimulated as you came shortly after him all over his cock, your legs shaking and moaning. He continued to pound into you in a slow pace to help you ride out your climax. Both of you tried to catch your breaths from the pleasure you both just felt after months of not feeling it both of you fucked out. With a low whimper, he slowly pulled out of you, and collapsed on top of you, your arms wrapped around him. Both of your bodies were covered in sweat and were heated up, your chests heaving. His face was in the crook of your neck, your fingers gently tracing his back, which caused him to get goosebumps. He occasionally placed soft kisses on your neck while he gently traced the sides of your body. After a while, he got up and helped you to get up, holding you as your legs slightly gave up for a short moment.
âDo you want me to help you clean up?â Aemond asked, a tender tone in his voice, but you shook your head. âYou can wait in your bed for me,â you smiled at him affectionally, which he happily returned. He was happy that you would be staying over the night. He gave you his shirt so you could go to the toilet after he made sure you were able to stand. When you came back, he already laid in his bed and waited for you to join him. He pulled the blanket over you and him.
Neither of you said anything and just enjoyed the moment while it lasted, even if it meant you wouldnât speak about it the next morning and act like you just didnât have your best sex in a long while. Both of you wrapped your arms around each other as you slowly drifted off to sleep. You and I finally had a good sleep after months again, laying arm in arm felt right. And it was right, was it?
A soft hum left your lips as you slowly woke up the next morning, feeling completely comfortable but slightly sore. Your eyes immediately opened and widened as you realized where you were and what you did last night with Aemond. Your back was turned towards him with his arm loosely over your waist. You let out a quiet sigh and slowly wiggled yourself out of his grip, trying not to wake him up. After you successfully got out of his bed without waking him up, you noticed that you were wearing his shirt. As you picked up your shirt, you quietly left his bedroom and got dressed after you picked up your panties and pants that were in his living room. You put his shirt on the backrest of his couch as memories from last night flooded your mind. The pleasure you felt, god it was so fucking good. You missed him and how well he always treated you and exactly knew how to get you over the edge quickly, but what if he regretted it? You didnât want to face him or the situation, you were afraid of what could happen when he would wake up.
You deeply inhaled and made your way to the door to put your shoes back on, took your handbag and were ready to leave without saying goodbye. But you sighed as you grabbed the door handle.
What if this night was a sign for both of you? What if that was the sign that you were ready to be with each other again?
You cursed yourself, took off your shoes again and left your handbag on the floor next to them. You were willing to see what could and would happen as soon as he would wake up. You decided to wait until he did, waiting on his couch. Saying you werenât nervous would be a lie. While you waited, you paced his living room a few times, thinking about what you could possibly say to him.
You nervously waited almost an hour until you heard noises from his bedroom. He woke up with a low groan and stretched his body, the events from last night filling his mind immediately. He sighed as he opened his eyes, rubbed his good eye and noticed that the side you slept on was already empty. He immediately sat up, and his eye roamed the room, he noticed that your shirt wasnât on the floor anymore. âThey already leftâŠâ He thought and groaned as he cursed himself for having possibly ruined the only chance to get back together with you. He wanted to make things right and give you the love you deserved, not like this immediately.
What if the events of last night chased you away from him even further? What if there was no chance left anymore with you?
You fiddled with your fingers and immediately looked up from them as you saw him walking out of his bedroom. He yawned and rubbed his good eye again. Maybe he hasnât noticed you yet? But as soon as his eye focused on you, he stopped in his tracks. âI⊠I thought you had already left.â
âI⊠Well, I was about to leave butâŠâ You stood up from his couch, âBut I donât think this would have been my best option.â
âOh⊠IâŠâ He slowly nodded, considering what to say, and walked into his kitchen, which was connected to his living room. You nervously fiddled with your fingers and followed his movements with your eyes but didnât move the rest of your body. âIâm glad you didnât leave,â he mumbled as he made himself a coffee, but you heard him, and a small smile formed on your lips.
âDo you want one as well?â He pointed to his coffee mug, but you shook your head and thanked him for the offer. He poured the coffee into his mug after it was done brewing and then walked up to you.
Both of you sat down next to each other, but there was a tiny distance between you. Neither of you said anything for a moment until he broke the tense silence between you. âDo you⊠Want to talk about last night?â He spoke softly, the nervousness in his voice was noticeable.
You nodded and turned your gaze in his direction, turning your body towards him, âI think we should.â Aemond inhaled and nodded as well, unsure what to say for a moment before he continued. âDo you regret it?â
âNo,â you paused for a moment, âNot at all.â His shoulders relaxed immediately, âNeither do I.â
âCan I be honest with you?â You asked, a hint of nervousness in your voice again. After he nodded, you continued, âI⊠Uhm⊠I miss you. I miss us. I know we decided to part ways because of all the things that were going on back then but⊠I never stopped thinking about you or the time we shared. And last night⊠Maybe it was a sign? And maybe it was what we needed to realize that weâre ready to be with each other again.â
Aemond didnât respond immediately, he was quite stunned, but he felt the same and agreed with you completely. He noticed how you continued to fiddle with your fingers and put down his coffee mug to gently lean to you and grab your hands to distract you. The contact calmed you down a little bit. You looked down at your hands as he brushed over the top of your hands with his thumbs. He still knew what calms you down, and you appreciated it a lot.
âI feel the same, darling,â he whispered softly, âI tried to move on, but it was impossible. There was always something missing in my life without you. I couldnât stop looking at you whenever we hung out with our friends, and IâŠâ He paused, âI still love you. I never stopped loving you, and when I woke up and thought you had already left, I was angry with myself for possibly having ruined any chances with you. Youâre⊠Youâre simply the best thing that has happened to me, and I donât want to lose you entirely.â
You squeezed his hand and looked at him, âNothing is ruined. I⊠I never stopped loving you either, Aemond.â You loved him, you always have. Many nights, youâve found yourself thinking about the rest of your life with him together. How youâd grow old with him, maybe living somewhere peaceful. Together. Maybe youâd have a dog or more than one? Maybe a cat? Or any other animals you could take care of together. Both of you even had thought about adopting a dog or cat together when you were still together. You two already had different name ideas, one of them being Vhagar.
He smiled and scooted closer to you to lean his forehead against yours while he still held your hands tightly and gently. Maybe you were able to have a chance again. âDo you want to give us⊠Maybe another chance? I⊠I canât continue living like this anymore. Every night, I think about you before I fall asleep, and youâre the first thought in the morning when I wake up. Wishing you were in my arms like you always used to. I just⊠Miss it,â he admitted quietly. His vulnerability was noticeable.
âIâd like to try again,â you smiled while tears built up in your eyes, completely out of happiness. Youâve been hoping for this moment for so long, and now you were sitting here together. Where it all started first because the first kiss you had with him before you were a couple happened in this apartment, on his couch in the same place you sat on currently.
Both of you smiled and fondly looked at one another before you eventually finally leaned in and captured his lips in a slow and tender kiss. He continued to brush his thumb over your hand and hummed into the kiss with a smile. He was truly happy. He pulled you into a hug after you pulled away from each other, stroking your head as he put his on top of yours. You closed your eyes and wrapped your arms around his waist. It was everything you needed, and maybe the break between you was needed to find each other again with a better mindset.
âI missed this,â you whispered after a while. âI missed this too. I missed you,â he admitted and kissed the top of your head. You finally had him back, he was your safe space, and you were his. And you both wonât let the other one go again. No matter what, youâd be able to get through everything together.

the deets â in which you, a quiet healer in the tribe, have the biggest crush on the upcoming leader. sometimes you think the feelings could be mutual. until one night in the glowing forest shatters that.
the who â neteyam x fem omatikaya!reader
the word count â like 7.6k (jesus h. christ)
the tags â idiots-to-lovers (it's teyam, he's the dummy), childhood friends-to-lovers, one-sided pining (reader is a softie).
the warnings â language, a lil kithy kithy, neteyam's emotionally constipated, but he redeems himself! reader's kind of a pushover, but it comes full circle!
the notes â first post for avatar & i'm really excited but a lil nervous bc like ??? i haven't written fanfic in SO long. i imagine neteyam & reader to be a few years older in this fic (eighteen or nineteen), but at the same time the circumstances could fit their current age as well. finally, this is written in a heinous blend of second / third. don't know how to explain, but i think it flows okay? if you like it please leave a request or let's have a chat! (also barely proofread oops).
YOU AND NETEYAM HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IN DISTANT ORBIT. Many would argue the two of you are cut from the same cloth; quiet, noble, mature, but you couldn't feel even more disconnected from the tribe's golden boy even if a chasm would crack the earth between you.
It's why you think it's silly that you'd develop such a yearning, your heart thudding like a war drum every time his amber eyes flit to yours. There's never any weight to his gaze, just fleeting glances among frequent observation, but you can't help but stare.
It doesn't help that his youngest siblings cling to you like a second and third skin, chattering excitedly about whatever piques their immediate interest. You just listen and hum your acknowledgements, a comfort to the two as you move through your studies.
Oftentimes he's sent to fetch his siblings, clearing his throat outside of the tent's flaps to announce himself, then wiggling a few fingers through the opening before peering in.
He's always in a hurry, never biting when you offer him opportunities to linger. You understand, how busy it can be when the whole clan begins to rely on you. So you bask in the short-lived moments in his space, skin scented with salt and the tang of the foliage.
But there are moments when you truly think he sees you. When you cross paths during clan meals, and the smallest of smiles twitches in his lips when you cut fruit and he's the first you offer to. When it's time to train to shoot your bows and he adjusts your form with a brief brush of his fingers on your elbow. When all of the older healers are unavailable and he shyly peeks his head into your tent for a quick patch up.
Nevermind the small tells stored in your short-term, but the little slivers of time when you were both growing into yourselves. When you were seven and he'd carried you to the elders when you hurt yourself. When some of the older kids in the clan would pick on you for keeping to yourself and he'd tell them that it was unbecoming and cowardly to pick on someone weaker than them. When he picked a flower during a group excursion into the deep depths of the forest and stuck the glowing stem in your satchel.
You had fallen so hard for Neteyam and your only hope is that he'd be at the end of the fall to catch you.
âYou're not listening, ________!â Tuk whines and you look up from the scrolls you unfurled from the basket moments before she walked in.
âSorry,â you murmur. âI have a lot on my mind.â
There's a small giggle from somewhere else in the tent and you peer from Tuk to Kiri who beads an anklet on her own.
âYeah, like big brother,â Tuk teases, turning her attention back to her own beadwork.
Kiri's face splits into a grin.
âYou've been lost in thought a lot more recently,â she observes. âCould Tuk be correct?â
You don't bother to deny it, the obvious flush in your cheeks a dead giveaway. Kiri's always been perceptive and the more you fight her on it, the longer she'll draw it out.
âI think it's worth a shot,â Kiri says. âNeteyamâs always had a soft spot for you.â
It's a million degrees hotter in the tent.
âYou don't have to do that,â you say quietly, slouching in your seat.
âDo what?â Kiri challenges.
âPretend I have a chance.â
Kiri makes a face.
âYou do!â she argues. âNeteyam's just shy.â
You're silent for a moment, fingers twitching over a tear in the scroll. You want to believe her, tell her that you think it could be worth a shot, too. But you scent him before you hear him, and then you hear him before you see him.
Four blue fingers wiggle in the tent's opening before Neteyam is poking his head inside.
âTuk? Kiri?â his voice rumbles. âReady?â
Kiri glances at you as she stands to her feet and begins gathering her things. Her eyebrows do a little dance, eyes widening as she tilts her head discreetly to her brother.
âI'll see you,â you say quietly, patting Tuk on the back of her leg as she drops her finished anklet in your lap and giggles at you.
You follow their movements as they exit the tent through where Neteyam holds the flap open for them patiently.
He simply lifts a hand as a silent greeting and you wait until they're out of sight and earshot to expel the breath you'd been holding and slump down on your pillow.
In hindsight, you should have been more careful. Neteyam was a skillful hunter, the tribe's best warrior after his father. It's only normal that he'd be in the dense forest when you were plucking flowers and herbs for your salves, speaking quietly to Eywa about your concerns.
âPlease, Great Mother,â you whisper, the woodsprites caressing the skin of your arms. "Please give me a sign, any form of motivation to be brave about my feelings."
The grass below your toes lights up and tickles the pads of your fingers as you pluck the glowing flowers.
There's a trail of them, purple and pink, and you pluck and pluck and pluck until you're led to the mouth of a clearing.
Something salty and tangy circles your figure and like usual, you scent him before you see him. When your gaze latches onto his lithe figure, you grin a little, lips parting to announce yourself. This must be your sign, of how vast and great the forests are surrounding your looming home tree, it must be fate that you stumble upon him at this hour.
But his name dies on your tongue when he shifts and you see the silhouette of another pressed to his side.
It's another Omaticaya girl, pretty and tall. You'd know her anywhere, the waves of her thick hair, the tinkle of her dainty laugh. But she is fierce all the same, far from perfect, but gritty enough that it doesn't matter.
Te'feyra draws a bow and one of Neteyam's hands come up to adjust her front grasp, fingers closing over hers and the arrow.
âSteady hands to make up for the recoil,â he says softly and your heart is in your throat.
He's engulfing her as she takes her aim and sends the arrow flying through the air.
Somewhere unknown to you, the arrow sticks its landing and Te'feyra jumps excitedly, pressing her lips to Neteyam's briefly.
You back away from the clearing, eyes burning as you fist the flowers so hard they wilt in your hands. A twig snaps underneath your weight and from your distance, you see the glow of Neteyam and Te'feyra's eyes through the brush.
You take off running without a single word, and despite your stomach tearing itself to ribbons, you thank Eywa for the clarity.
âSomething's wrong,â Kiri says to you days later.
Instead of the tent, you two are sitting on opposing branches of a thick tree, observing the flora and fauna of your corner of the forest. You decide that you need some time away from the bustle of the clan's circle and venture off into the opposite side of the woods.
âWhy do you say?â you wonder, scribbling onto one of your scrolls.
âYou're naturally quiet, I get that, but the past few days, I feel like I've been in the presence of the dead,â she sighs, staring down at you from the branch above. âAnd Ewya's given me the feeling that all may not be well with you.â
You lick your teeth, then roll your lips nervously.
âI told you Neteyam didn't like me,â you admit.
Kiri's eyebrows furrow.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âI saw him,â you sigh, fiddling with your pen. âIn the forest with Te'feyra. She kissed him.â
Kiri curses under her breath.
âThis is stupid,â she huffs. âHe's just being stupid. Neteyam likes you and I'm going to prove it.â
You open your mouth to protest, but Kiri's already jumping down from the branches of the tree and dragging you with her through the darkening forest.
âKiri, this isn't necessary,â you finally pipe up. âIt's okay if the feeling isn't mutual, I never expected it to be.â
Kiri stops in her tracks and her pinched face softens, braids swinging by the set of her jaw.
â________, we all grew up together,â she says softly. âI know my brother, and I know you. You two belong together, I feel it.â
You swallow around nothing, allowing her to drag you through the forest and back into the clan's main circle.
âHey, Kiri! ________, where are you two headed off to in such a rush?â one of the elders calls from where they're working on tools.
Kiri smiles politely.
âVery important business,â she replies quickly, fingers tightening around your wrist to pull you across the grass.
You stop in front of their family's hometree and Kiri guides you through vines and steep inclines before pausing in front of their family's tent.
Lo'ak's voice sounds from within, whiny and irritated.
âBro, are you being serious right now?â he squeaks and Neteyam grunts, obviously bored.
âFrankly, Lo'ak this has nothing to do with you,â he says.
âDude, yes it does,â Lo'ak argues. âYou've inadvertently involved everyone in this affair because you won't get your head out of your ass for three seconds and just admit that you like her.â
âI don't like, ________,â he says simply and Kiri freezes in front of you.
You chew the inside of your cheek, fingers twitching in Kiri's loosened hold.
âWho are you trying to convince?â Lo'ak moans. âYou're really going to commit to Te'feyra even though you have no interest in her?â
âTe'feyra is a great huntress,â Neteyam says simply. âShe's well-loved, a strong leader. What's there not to like?â
â________ is all of those things,â Lo'ak says. âShe's a talented healer, always patches you up when you get yourself in trouble. The clan loves her, Tuk and Kiri love her, Mom and Dad love her.â
âThe clan barely knows that ________ exists,â Neteyam says and you wince.
Kiri makes a move to infiltrate the heated conversation, but you put a hand on her shoulder and shake your head.
âDude, that's low,â Lo'ak scoffs in disbelief.
â________ is a sweet girl, but she's weak. She's hollow and does what she's told. I wouldn't want to spend my life bonded to someone so passive,â Neteyam says plainly and Lo'ak lets out an exasperated hiss.
âYou're kidding right? ________ is amazing,â Lo'ak challenges. âShe's quiet, but she's caring. She's resilient and intelligent and anyone would be lucky to be bonded to someone like her, your stupid ass included.â
âMaybe you should focus more on training for your rite rather than trying to play matchmaker,â Neteyam says, showing the first signs of annoyance.
âYou just won't admit that for the first time you're scared,â Lo'ak finally says.
Everything seems to still and Lo'ak presses on.
âEveryone loves you, you're the clan's golden child and you can do no wrong. You like ________ so much, but you're afraid that you'll let her down,â Lo'ak says fiercely. âBut you don't realize that being a pussy about your feelings is the ultimate let down!â
âYou'd know a lot about being a let down, wouldn't you,â Neteyam grumbles.
There's a split second of silence before Neteyam lets out a loud grunt of pain. The flap to their tent flies open and Lo'ak freezes before you and Kiri.
His eyes meet yours and his gaze softens before stalking past.
Neteyam stands stunned in the middle of the tent, lip bruised and bleeding. His gaze swings to the arch way, face falling when he finds you standing behind his younger sister.
âWanna go swimming?â Tuk asks you the next evening, after dinner.
You smile down at her weakly, heart melting when she pets your hand. You can't deny her, nodding gently as you stand from where you're sitting on the outer circle of the scattered clan.
âCarry me?â she asks sweetly.
You heave her up with a grunt and she grins at you, playing with one of the braids in your hair. Her small fingers caress the skin of your cheek and you blink when she ghosts over your eyelid.
âPretty,â she whispers, head nestling on your shoulder.
âI think you're prettier,â you tell her, readjusting her growing form as you walk through the brush, towards the rush of the waterfall.
You don't realize that there's a set of eyes on you, watching as you disappear through the trees with Tuk.
The cliff that houses the waterfall towers above you two in a semicircle, the water rippling gently as Tuk squirms from your grasp and splashes through the shallow pool.
âStay close, Tuk,â you coo, toes wiggling through the pebbles washed up on the tiny shore.
âI've been practicing!â Tuk tells you. âWanna see how long I can hold my breath under water?â
âStay in shallow waters,â you advise her, wading into the pool until you're waist deep.
Tuk dramatically inhales and then sinks down under the surface. Something cracks in the distance and you glance around, met with the stillness of the forest and the chirp of bugs.
When you turn your attention back to Tuk, you smile fondly as you wait for her to emerge, counting the seconds diligently to report to her chubby cheeks.
Fifteen pass, then thirty. Your smile begins to fade as your arms feel around in the water around you.
âTuk?â you call out, chest tightening when you're met with the subtle rush of the glittering cascade from the waterfall up above.
You push forward in the water until your chin touches the surface.
âTuktirey!â you shout, thrashing around the pool, searching for her tiny frame through the illumination. âTuk!â
Your toes lose purchase as the water deepens and you begin to panic without the youngest Sully in sight. You turn when you hear a splash, Tuk giggling on the shore.
Your stomach churns hard and Tuk's face falls when she sees your panicked expression.
âTuk, I-I can't swim well!â you cry out, legs flailing as you splash through the water. You try to dig your toes in the earth below, but you're just shy of the mark.
Tuk looks scared on the shore, fidgeting as she looks around desperately.
âYou're too deep, ________!â Tuk whines, voice laced with tears.
Your legs ache, head lolling under the water for a moment before you emerge with a splutter.
âGetâ Go get help!â you instruct her, feeling your calves begin to burn as you try to keep yourself afloat. You don't know how long you'll be able to tread water. âI'll be okay, little one. Hurry!â
Tuk turns, picking up her satchel as she makes way for the path you took. When she's out of sight, you fall slack, chest heaving as you try to use your skinny arms to paddle at the water.
Meanwhile, Tuktirey runs through the forest, tears spilling down her rounded cheeks as she trips over sprawling roots and nudges low-hanging vines from the pathway.
She skids to a stop when Neteyam, who had finally worked up the nerve to excuse himself from dinner, comes into view.
He turns when he hears her wailing, face scrunching when he registers his youngest sibling's anguish.
âTuk, whaââ
She grabs at his hands, tugging him towards the path to the waterfall.
â________ needs help!â she cries. âShe can't swim!â
Neteyam's ears prick at the mention of your name, scooping up his youngest sibling in his arms before breaking into a sprint through the brush of the brightening forest. The woodsprites begin to emerge and he barrels into the clearing of the waterfall breathlessly.
It's still, like it's been untouched and his heart hammers nervously in his chest, eyes searching the pool for any sign of you.
He's setting Tuk down quickly before splash desperately into the water.
â_______!â he calls.
He ducks underneath the surface, eyes open wide as he searches for you. And there you are, body slack as you sink slowly to the bottom of the rocky pool.
He dives forward, lungs burning as he cuts through the waters with lean arms. His fingers circle one of your wrists, the other hand winding around your waist as he propels you two up above the water. He chokes on a breath, hand coming up to touch your face.
Your head lolls to the side, eyes shut as Neteyam holds you close.
âNeteyam!â Te'feyra calls from the shore, having followed him after being rebuffed during dinner.
Kiri and Lo'ak are close behind, eyes wide when they see their eldest brother wading quickly through the waters with your unconscious form in his arms.
âNeteyam,â Te'feyra repeats, hand coming to grasp his bicep.
âNot now,â he grunts, tugging his arm from her grasp to march through the brush of the forest.
Woodsprites surround you two as he takes you back to the village, a silent plea to the Great Mother not to take you away weighing heavy on his lips.
You awake to a shining sun and a wet towel on your head. You squint against the beaming light and sit up abruptly as the prior night dawns you like a swift strike to the gut.
âWhoa, wait, slow down,â a thick voice rumbles.
You scent him before you see him.
Neteyam's hands are on you, guiding you back to rest on the pile of pillows that had propped you up before.
You shoot up again anyways.
âWhere's Tuk?â you ask anxiously.
âTuk's fine,â Neteyam says. âShe's eating breakfast with Kiri and Mom.â
You lean back in relief, eyes squeezing shut as you wheeze out a sigh.
His hands are on you again, gentle, warm as he takes the towel from your forehead and wipes your face to refresh you.
âAre you okay?â he asks quietly, hesitantly.
You pause a moment, but then nod.
âYeah,â you affirm hoarsely. âM'fine.â
Neteyam just stares at you, yellow eyes unblinking and you know this isn't like one of those fleeting moments. He sees you and it makes your gut churn hard.
âI'll be okay here,â you say quietly. âYou may have...someone, you know, waiting for you.â
Te'feyra's name is a silent implication and Neteyam doesn't look amused.
âI told them I would look after you until you're fully well,â he counters, wringing the towel into a bowl that sits next to the mound of blankets your rest on.
You fiddle with your fingers, fully disheartened because even in times like these, he remains the diligent leader-in-training that he is.
The air in the tent is think and you can't breathe.
âI'd like some air,â you whisper, crawling from the soft mat to climb to your feet shakily.
âYou need to rest,â Neteyam says crossly, seemingly annoyed at your persistence to put as much distance as you can between the two of you.
You don't respond and finally he seems to burst.
âYou can't swim and yet you still went after Tuk,â he calls after you like an accusation. âWhy?â
You pause.
âTuk is like a sister to me,â you say quietly. âI would never let anything happen to her.â
You make a move to exit the tent, but Neteyam's voice stops you in your tracks.
âYou could have died,â he says quietly, and you can't place the emotion in his voice.
âI'd do it again,â you admit, craning your neck to face him. âI'm not that weak.â
Neteyam's face falls and you duck from the tent.
Neteyam becomes restless after that moment. He loses his focus, agility taking a hit as he hunts one on one with his father.
He goes to shoot another arrow, but Jake stops him with a gentle hand on his shoulder.
âNeteyam, I know I can be hard on you,â he starts. âBut Iâm always here.â
âYes sir,â Neteyam nods.
âSomethingâs bothering you,â Jake observes. âYouâre not yourself. Youâre losing focus.â
Neteyam swallows.
âSorry, sir,â he says, head hanging.
His braids form a curtain around his face and Jake gives his shoulder a squeeze.
âSon?â
Neteyam swallows again, head tilting up to look is dad in the face.
âI donât want to be with Teâfeyra,â he admits quietly.
Jake's lips twitch.
âWell I could have told you that,â Jake scoffs, the corner of his lips twitching into a soft smile. âYou look about as dead as a washed up fish when sheâs around.â
Neteyam recalls the kiss sheâd given him nights ago and how he'd internally recoiled, body stiff under her touch.
âIâm sorry,â he repeats.
âWhy are you sorry?â Jake prods.
âBecause I know Teâfeyra is who the clan wants me to be with, who is my most suitable match,â he says. âI justâ I don't want to let you down.â
Jake gives him an impish grin.
âNeteyam, let me give you a word of advice. There are things in this world that are suited well for each other; you and Te'feyra are one of those things. But your heart and your mind are the two most powerful things about you,â he says. âYou will not be punished for giving into your heart.â
Neteyam thinks of you. He thinks of your face, the lines of your timid smile, the idents that dimple your cheeks. He thinks of your touch when he's wounded, gentle and expert, warm against his skin. He thinks of your voice, airy, soft, a low rasp.
He thinks of when he'd called you weak. Of your face, wounded and hurt. He's stricken in this moment as he realizes that strength doesn't have to be audacious. It can be quiet, small acts that become mighty.
Tuk had told him about the waterfall, how she'd wanted to pull your leg a little. You'd accepted your fate if Ewya deemed it time, you'd even sent the youngest away in the chance you wouldn't surface.
You were far from weak. Your strength ran nearly as deep as the roots of Ewya herself, yet you'd taken the criticism in stride. Let Neteyam paint you as a coward, a pushover with no spine.
âI think thereâs someone you need to clear the air with,â Jake says after a few moments of silence. âShe should be in her tent.â
Neteyam's hands are clammy. It's been nearly a week since he'd last seen you. You'd reserved to spending time inside of your tent to brush up on your studies and refine your work. He'd catch glimpses of you, but you were used to blending in the background and Neteyam's used to overlooking you.
Was he being presumptuous? Maybe you only admired him as a warrior. Or perhaps it was a duty to the clan to revere him. He feels sick to his stomach thinking of confronting you. But Lo'ak wouldn't try to convince him of his own feelings if it wasn't mutual, would he?
And when had the feelings become mutual? He's recently began to think that perhaps he'd always liked you because you were the only one who didn't actively vie for his affection. Who only saw him as Neteyam, an equal, not Neteyam, the Oloâeyktan's son.
Maybe it was whenever he'd see you wandering in the forest during his hunting trips, murmuring to yourself as you picked herbs and flowers for you studies. Or maybe when he'd spot you still high on the branches of the lofty trees with a tablet of paper and ink. Maybe it was when you'd smile at him shyly when he'd adjust your form during archery and it'd melt his insides. Or when you two were little and he'd plucked flowers for everyone and you were the only one who'd smiled at it sticking out of your satchel.
If he recalls correctly, it's pressed to a scroll hanging in your tent and that alone makes his heart race.
Maybe you two are inevitable and he'd only prolonged it because of his own fears.
âNeteyam!â
Teâfeyra steps in his line of sight, standing before him and the hometree that houses your tent. He glances away when she stops in front of him.
âTeâfeyra,â he greets cordially.
âI haven't seen you since the incident with ________,â she says. âAre you alright?â
Neteyam nods.
âNever better,â he says simply.
âAfter dinner we shouldââ
He spots you, satchel thrown over your shoulder. You glance his way momentarily, but scurry in the direction of your tent when you lock eyes with him.
âIf you will excuse me, please,â he says politely, extricating himself from Teâfeyra to follow after you.
He catches up to you right outside of your tent.
â________!â he calls.
You freeze almost imperceptibly, but continue on your way, climbing the flattened incline spiraling around the center of the hometree.
â________,â he murmurs, fist closing around your skinny bicep.
You jolt to a stop, golden eyes razor sharp as you glance down at him. Your fist is wrapped tight around the strap of the satchel, knuckles stretched taut.
âNeteyam,â you reply softly. âYes?â
He opens his mouth to say something, but finds that his tongue weighs heavy behind his lips.
âIf you seek help, there are elders available for healing,â you inform him, making a move to remove your arm from his grasp.
He instinctively tightens his grasp and you shift uncomfortably.
âSorry, sorry,â he says quietly, pulling away. âI just want to speak with you.â
A few beats pass as you blink at him.
âWell?â
âOh,â he swallows. âCan I come in?â
You turn to face the flap of your tent before craning your long neck over your shoulder to nod.
âSure,â you agree, holding the hide open to let him in.
You step in after him, table scattered with mixtures of finely-pounded dust, scrolls of research and bundles of materials.
You set your satchel down and begin unloading your finds from you excursion.
Meanwhile, Neteyam paces nervously, trailing the circumference of your tent, eyes flitting every which way to take in every piece of you.
A thick silence envelops you and you clear your throat when the satchel is empty.
âYou wanted to talk?â you ask, watching as he stops in front of a scrolled tacked to one of the beams.
It's the pressed flower he'd given to you all that time ago as children. It's central in the room, catching the sun so beautifully and Neteyam uses this as the last bit of courage he needs to continue.
âYou kept it,â he says, voice shaky.
âOf course,â you say simply, picking through your different finds. âYou gave it to me.â
Neteyam turns, looks you head on and he feels his resolve crumbling.
âYou like me,â he says bluntly, afraid that if he beats around the bush, he'll cop out.
âEveryone does,â you deflect.
Neteyam's jaw locks.
âNo, ________, you like me,â he repeats.
You feel small, sorting the petals by color, fingers nimble against the soft grain of the wooden tabletop.
âPresumptuous,â you hum, unable to meet his piercing gaze.
â________,â he presses.
You bite your lip, tears clouding your vision as your fingers begin to trembling through the sorting. He's being so unfair and he doesn't even know it.
âWhy?â you ask shakily.
âWhat do you mean why?â Neteyam counters, voice taking on the same edge he did with his brother days prior and he'd interrogated him about you.
âWhy are you doing this?â you croak, and he hears the tears in your voice.
He's across the floor before you can blink.
âAre you crying?â he asks, shocked.
âWhy do you want me to say it so badly?â you choke, poor petals strangled in your vibrating fist. âIs it not enough? To know that I yearn for you silently? That everyone pities me because my heart belongs to someone who's already spoken for?â
Neteyam is stunned.
âI like you, Neteyam. I always have,â you say, voice raw with emotion. âIt's my biggest defeat to say I always will. Is that what you want to hear?â
Your eyes are tinged red and his throat feels stuffed with cotton.
âI've always admired you,â you say quietly, between hiccuping breaths. âBut I didnât know you could be so cruel.â
Neteyam winces, every word heâd practiced earlier, completely obliterated from his short term. He knows he should just tell you, tell you that his heart yearns for yours, too. That he'd been too blinded by his impending duty to feel the full effects of what a first love could be like.
âYou should go,â you say when he's silent.
You brush your tears away and pat your cheeks dry with the back of your hands as you carefully set the wilted flowers the the edge of the table.
âIââ
âNeteyam, spare me, please.â
âI donât want to,â he finally says.
Your eyebrows furrow, eyes swollen as you gaze at him unjaded. Who he believed to be so stoic and passive now baring every possible inch to him.
âYou'reââ
âI don't want to be with Te'feyra,â he finally spits, fists clenched. âI won't be with her.â
Your gaze softens, lips parting to ask what's gotten into him, but he cuts you off.
âYou,â he answers firmly, before the question clings in the air. âItâs you. I want to be with you.â
"Stop," you whisper, shaking your head furiously. You take a step away from where he's quickly closing in on you. âDon'tââ
He pauses mid-stride and the expression on his handsome face is absolutely devastating. His chest rises and falls shakily and you take a moment to meet his eyes.
âIâm sorry I didnât notice it before,â he says desperately, âI was scared and didn't fully realize it, but I do now.â
âThatâs unfair,â you hiccup. âThis isn't just on your terms. You canâtâ you canât just tell me you like me and expect me to be with you.â
These passing moments are the most heâs ever heard you speak, and heâs afraid that he's severely underestimated you. It doesnât taste so sweet now that heâs faced with the reality of things.
âYou will be the future leader of this clan,â you continue. âThat is a great responsibility that you've prepared for your entire life. Who you decide to be with is a permanent fixture that cannot be undone.â
âI know, I know,â he assures you.
âYou find it in your heart pity me, Neteyam,â you breathe quietly. âBut do you really want to be bonded to someone passive and weak?â
He opens his mouth to argue, but you've squared your shoulders, stomach caving and expanding with a deep breath. You turn to your prior task.
âYou should go,â you repeat. âDuty calls.â
âWhat do you mean you need help?â Kiri asks incredulously, eyes widened at her older brother.
â________,â Neteyam says. âShe's icing me out.â
Kiri's face melts in relief and she scoffs a laugh.
âDo you blame her?â
âKiri!â he pleads.
Kiri stops her movements, falling back on her haunches to meet Neteyam's desperate gaze. It's so unlike him, being uncertain, nervous. He's picked up the habit of fiddling his fingers and Kiri snorts to herself.
âActions,â she says simply.
âHuh?â he vocalizes.
âWords mean nothing to ________ if your actions don't support them,â she says. âThis entire time you've acted so lukewarm towards her. Of course she won't believe you when you decide to acknowledge that you love her.â
Neteyam's throat bobs as he stares down at his sister.
âAnd how will I do that?â he presses.
Kiri shrugs.
âNot so mighty warrior now, are we?â
As the days progress, you begin to grasp at finally coming to terms with the tattered remains of what's left of you and Neteyam's frayed relationship. Your heart hasn't stonewalled him completely, but the yearning for him has dulled to a slight ache.
His eyes are piercing every moment you share the same vicinity. Kiri would even try to argue you that it's longing, but Neteyam's a slave to his honor and you aren't convinced.
âYou should pity the poor boy,â an elder tells you as you cut up ingredients for the evening's dinner.
You pause, fingers tightening around the handle of the knife. You roll your lips together before briefly meeting her gaze, warm under firelight.
âI donât know what youâre talking about,â you deflect, clearing your throat.
She laughs, peeling a purple fruit.
âNeteyam,â she says forwardly. âHasnât taken his eyes off you in who knows how long. Will you continue to let him suffer?â
You want to argue that it's you who's suffering. That the heart that beats inside the hollow of your ribcage feels like it'll tear in two every time you recall the venom in Neteyam's voice when he'd called you weak.
âI doubt his suffering has anything to do with me,â you say instead. âWe are only acquaintances.â
The elder laughs again.
âIs that why he's been pestering the elders for input on how to sway your heart?â
Your head shoots up from where you've focused on the fine cuts of vegetables.
âWhat?â
âHeâs been slacking on his duties, instead poking around the elders and villagers trying to pry information about you,â she says. âHeard him muttering about what kind of flowers you like.â
âIt will take more than flowers to sway my heart,â you mumble.
âSo you admit that there's something there, hmm?â
Your cheeks heat, caught like a fish in warm waters.
âIââ
âI'd argue that Neteyamâs liked you longer than you've liked him,â the elder says simply.
You bite.
âWhy do you say that?â
âHe's always asked Eywa for courage, and it seems like she gave you as an answer.â
The elder climbs to her feet, leaving you near the open flame. You open your mouth to call out to her, but the scent of salt and leaves envelops you before you can say anything.
You crane your neck and find Neteyam a few paces from you.
âDo you have a few moments?â he asks politely.
You want to say no, tell him that you'd offered him an infinite amount of moments that he'd spent building bridges between the two of you, but if he's a slave to his honor, you're bound by heart.
âOkay,â you say hesitantly, abandoning your task.
He holds his hand out for you to take and your fingers slide across his warm palm as he pulls you to your feet. Once he secures your hold in his, he tugs you along.
You don't know where he's taking you, or what he could possibly want with your time, but you feel a thousand times more nervous than ever now that the tangled web of your feelings drapes the both of you.
After a few moments of rugged silence, climbing through bushes and brush, he punctures the quiet.
âAre you well?â he asks.
âYes,â you answer after a moment. âYou?â
âTruthfully?â he responds, pausing to face you. You realize his hand still engulfs yours. âNo.â
âNo?â you parrot shakily.
âNo,â he affirms. âI've been hurting actually.â
Your eyebrows furrow.
âYou should seek help if you have an ongoingââ
âHere,â he says, the hand still caught in his being guided to lay flat against his chest. You can feel his heart hammering behind his ribcage. âIt hurts here.â
You swallow, pulling away from his grasp when you realize his insinuation.
âDonât,â you warn.
He breathes a shaky sigh before taking a step towards you. He's corded muscle and warmth as his palm comes to cradle your jaw. Your bottom lip twitches as you stare up at him.
âItâs always been you,â he says quietly, thumb brushing your chin as his eyes map every curve of your face. âI think Iâve always known it deep down, but...â
Your hand comes up to meet his, gently prying his touch away.
âNeteyam,â you sigh. âHad the last few days unfolded differently, I don't think you'd been saying this now.â
âMaybe not now,â he agrees. âBut one day, I would. I know I would. Because when I recall every fond moment, youâre there. No matter how close to the background you get, youâre always there.â
You look skeptical, and Neteyam knows he's losing you. So he digs in the small knapsack he has slung over his broad shoulders and pulls out something thin.
When he holds it up with shaky fingers, your breath catches in your throat. Strung through the taut brown of tree vine is a line of beads identical to the one that he wears on a braid tucked behind his ear. Upon closer inspection, you notice the blue and purple beads formed to create your favorite flowers.
âWhaââ
âUntil you decide you want to be mine,â he says, voice trembling nervously as he takes your arm and gently slides the band up until it fits snuggly around your bicep. âSo that you remember I'm always yours.â
Your voice is caught in your throat as he brings your fingers up to his lips.
âI wonât push you,â he says when he realizes your words have evaded you. âBut Iâll wait for you.â
âNeteyamââ
He simply smiles at you, golden eyes shy as he takes a step back to admire his handiwork. He seems satisfied, triumphant, when you eye the band but make no moves to remove it.
âIâll wait for you,â he repeats, giving your fingers a squeeze before running off.
âHe did what?â Loâak shrills a week later.
The younger three Sully's had hunted you down and brought you to the clearing dedicated to archery training.
Slender fingers wrap around your wrist and elbow to turn your arm to examine the band with wide eyes.
You canât help but smile gently to yourself, watching the way the sun catches the reflection of the pearlescent beads and reflects them brightly.
âI knew that dummy was planning something,â Kiri grumbles. You bite your lip when she meets your gaze. âWell?â
âWell what?â you ask, arm still in Loâakâs grasp.
He twists playfully and your laugh glitters in the air.
"Are you going to put my knucklehead brother out of his misery or what?" Kiri hisses, arm drawing to shoot a arrow that stabs the target about a centimeter too left.
Tuk giggles as she runs up to the target to examine the damage.
âYeah, please do, he's in love and it's disgusting,â Lo'ak grumbles, still eyeing the cuff.
Your heart skips at the mention of love, cheeks going warm when both Kiri and Lo'ak notice how you've gone quiet. They begin laughing, dealing you playful punches.
âStop that,â you scold, swatting their hands away. âI havenât given him an answer yet.â
âOh, get real!â Kiri huffs. âYou are so in love, you know you'll say yes.â
âPlease put me out of my misery,â Lo'ak moans. âI'm tired of being his therapist because he's a little bitch.â
âLo'ak,â you warn, eyes narrowing.
He giggles and Kiri stifles a laugh as you flounder, cheeks blooming under the siblings' teasing.
âYou are both so awful,â you say petulantly, arms crossing one over the other. âHow are you so sure Iâll return his feelings?â
It's Kiri's turn to groan, eyes rolling.
âSure enough that I know if I let you in on a little secret, it'll light a fire under your ass,â she says seriously.
Your spine goes rigid, arms loosening as you wait with bated breath.
âNeteyam may choose you, but if you donât choose him back quickly enough, someone could swoop in and claw that chance from you,â she shrugs.
Te'feyra's name is an ugly insinuation and something green coils its way into the pit of your stomach as you recall the chaste kiss she'd pressed to Neteyam's lips all those nights ago in the forest.
âGears turning?â Lo'ak lilts.
They definitely are and suddenly you feel small, digging your big toe into the dirt to drag lines through the forest floor. You nod hesitantly, band suddenly tight around your bicep.
In your ruminating, Lo'ak and Kiri pass a knowing glance.
âWell?â Lo'ak prods.
You fidget, rattling with nerves.
âI suppose...â
Lo'ak sighs and his hands come down on your shoulders to steer you through the clearing.
âWhere are we going?â you squeak.
âTo put everyone out of their misery,â Lo'ak huffs.
The forest seems way more alive than usual, glowing so bright it almost overpowers the sun. Woodsprites gather around as Lo'ak nudges you through the thick foliage and you can't help but think about the sweet smile that curled on Neteyam's lips as he assured you that he was yours. All yours.
The fire crackles in the distance and you know that the morning meal is in the works when voices roar quietly meters away.
Neteyam sits near the center, surrounded by elders and the dreaded girl.
Te'feyra's obliterated every single centimeter of space available, nearly melded to his side as the elders talk animatedly over the two.
You want to turn back, uncertainty vice-like, but Lo'ak squeezes your shoulders as a silent plea. Not even a moment passes before Neteyam peels himself away and begins putting distance between them.
When Te'feyra gives him a curious glance, he gives her an uneasy smile.
âBe courageous, ________,â Lo'ak encourages. âYou're one of the strongest people I know.â
With a final pat on the back, he pushes you towards the circle and the sudden movement catches everyone's gaze.
â________,â one of the elders calls fondly.
You smile and bow your head, fingers twitching at your sides.
âHello,â you greet quietly, eyes swooping hesitantly to Neteyam who rises to his feet, already watching you intently.
That's when you notice it, the choker fastened around his throat. The vine is identical to yours, but it's strung with a line of beads that mirror the ones woven into a singular braid at the nape of your neck.
You hadn't realized that he'd noticed it all this time, but it's the ultimate confirmation that Neteyam sees you. And when he notices that you notice, he smiles softly.
The elders notice as well, drawing the link between your arm band and the necklace that Neteyam wears, now that you two stand opposite each other.
âMay I borrow Neteyam for a moment?â you ask politely.
The same elder you prepared with the evening prior gleams a wide smile when Neteyam takes a step towards you, fingers brushing delicately with yours.
Te'feyra remains seated, lips twitching as her gaze flits between the two of you.
âBy all means,â one of them says. âTake your time.â
You bow your head again, heart thudding when Neteyam's fingers twine with yours and he lets you drag him out of the circle and deeper into the forest.
When you deem that no prying eyes or ears surround you, you stop, Neteyam bumping softly into your back. The hair on the back of your neck bristle when he makes no moves to extricate himself from you, simply moving your braids from your face to reveal the string of beads tucked near the nape of your neck.
âYou needed me?â he whispers, fingers still ghosting the skin of shoulder.
You swallow, squeezing your eyes shut as you relish the moment. Your fingers are still locked and for a fleeting second, you pretend that it's always been like this, the two of you.
âI am nothing extraordinary,â you start, and Neteyam's fingertips pause at your elbow.
âI'd argue differently,â he responds.
âI value time alone and I get overwhelmed often,â you continue.
âWe all have our moments,â is his rebuttal as the hand covering yours squeezes gently.
You sigh.
âI couldââ
Neteyam turns you and you're met with the the choker, beads glinting under the light. Your eyes drag up the column of his strong neck, flit past his soft lips and finally lock with his searing gaze.
âYou can try all you want to run me off,â Neteyam laughs quietly, cupping your jaw. âBut I'm not scared anymore.â
Your expression is skeptical and Neteyam decides to bite the bullet. He's closing in on you and your heart pounds violently in your chest.
âNeteyam,â you whisper weakly, hand coming up to his chest.
He traps your fingers against his heart, lips slotting between yours before you can protest some more.
It's like the forest comes alive around you, grass tickling between your toes as you melt under his touch and lean up into his mouth.
His hands are everywhere at once, branding your cerulean skin as he kisses you like it's your last moments. There's no hesitation, no feeling it out, just his warm breath and his soft lips as he pulls you impossibly closer.
âI'll take you as you are at any moment,â he says breathlessly between kisses. âYou just have to say you want me back, ________. Please.â
You nod, nose brushing against his as one of his palms splay at the small of your back and the other grabs your chin, pulling you back to plant another burning kiss on your lips.
âSay it,â he begs.
Your eyes begin to mist as you nod again eagerly, parting for a moment to whisper the words.
âI'm yours,â you hoarse, hands on either side of his neck. âI'm yours if you'll be with me.â
Neteyam simply kisses you again, a satisfied hum rumbling from his built chest.
âFucking finally,â a whisper sounds from the brush.
A LIL' BONUS
âYou think they would have figured it out on their own?â Lo'ak asks, wolfing down his food.
Kiri shrugs, feeding Tuk a piece of fruit from her wooden plate.
âMaybe,â she says, unable to suppress her proud grin. âMaybe not. They're both stupid."
âI think so,â Te'feyra laughs watching you and Neteyam fondly from across the fire. âThey were a long time coming.â
an â thank you SO much if you've made it this far! again, leave a request or let's chat hehehe. up next is lo'ak so stay tuned! :)

â
â and ignite your bones | carlos sainz and multi
Description: Trying to find love after your ex-fiancee told you that his mistress makes him happier. How hard could it be?
part three of it was all yellow
Pairing: actress!singer!reader/multi (undecided), actress!singer!reader/carlos sainz (past).
Trope: Secret Baby Trope
Disclaimer: Everything written in this fanfic holds no truth about anyone's personality or actions. It is made purely for entertainment.
The bitter taste remained in your throat - vomit threatened to puke out of your esophagus. There were three billion people in the world, yet Carlos' sister decided to invite his new girlfriend to the party. It was greedy to expect them to shun the new, in favor of the old.
You take a sip of your wine.
The Sainz Family never accepted you as part of them. To them, your family wasn't as prestigious as it came from relatively new fame. To them, your father was just a country bumpkin that was lucky to make it big in Hollywood. They always spoke Spanish around you.
They never bothered to warm their hearts to someone as 'cold' as you. Of course, your other ex-boyfriend was also Spanish and you could translate the few words that they said.
That was when you realized that the family didn't like you...at all. They thought that you were strange despite your gentle disposition.
They ignored you.
And like a knife was getting twisted inside of you, they welcomed Because with open arms.
"Are you okay?" Pom stood in front of me. "- I feel quite left out, what ever is happening over there." she chuckled, pointing at the group of friends laughing and speaking in another language. "Its been a long time since I've been around them. I know how you feel." you smiled.
"I'm sorry for intruding but, Carlos was your ex-boyfriend, right?" she narrowed her eyes, watching as your ex-lover paraded Pablo around the boat - showing everyone his son. "Yes," you answered, throwing your attention back to the ocean waters.
"- and that woman is his new girlfriend?" she vaguely stared at the other woman and you nodded. "Holy mackerel." she scoffed.
Pom Klementieff sat beside you.
"I think he downgraded." she whispered, you knew that it was the alcohol speaking in her behalf. "You're only saying that because you want to be my friend." you teased and she shrugged.
"I'm sorry, I say things sometimes and they're not appropriate." she apologized, earning a small chuckle from you.
She could be a good friend.
.
.
.
Thankfully lunch rolled around quickly. There weren't many things that you could chatter about after four hours of chatting. Pom looked seasick and you were exhausted with all of the cleaning.
Pablo was being stubborn, he didn't want to eat his vegetables.
"Pabs, just try it once." you pleaded, knowing better than to force food down a toddler's mouth. "No." he stubbornly answered. He inherited his father's stubbornness.
"You like the broccoli that Nana makes, this one is made by your other Nana." you explained, seeing that there was no difference between the broccoli made here then the broccoli at home.
"No." he responded pushing the spoon away.
Carlos, sensing the tension quickly made his way to the chair beside his son. He placed a guiding hand on his back. "Is there something else that you want to eat?" he inquired and Pablo shook his head.
"I want to go home." the boy replied, jumping down from his seat and sprinting towards you - burying his face on your chest.
"We'll be in our hotel room, soon. Once we land in Mallorca, we'll grab ice cream." you promised. "- but you have to eat something first." you added and only then did the young boy relent.
Carlos' eyes narrowed watching as the both of you ate. It was funny to think about the different outcomes of life, maybe, if he didn't fuck it all up and decided to stay - this would happen in a daily basis. He'd have a quiet life where all he worried about was food, children and what movies you'd watch on his days off.
He could've had a quiet life.
He didn't want a quiet life back then. He wanted to be taken off the ground by a hurricane. But like a rabbit hiding under a car in fear of the lights, he is ran over by fate and dead before he could think twice.

Because takes a deep breath, feeling his arms wrap around her waist. At night, she thinks about his son and his baby mommy. She looks at your face sometimes, the curve of your nose, the distance of your eyes, your quirky personality - all parts of you that were better than all the parts of hers.
When Carlos chose her instead of you, she found love. She thought that something about her must be unique. But then she sees the way he looks at you and finds that respect diminishing.
Love should belong to herself, but why is she reaching for the horizon looking for love that comes from him?
Most of all, she doesn't understand why Carlos chose her.

smalltown shit
Charlie Swan x fem!reader [explicit, 18+]
Summary: "Youâre a little young, arenât you?â he asks, and it isnât with a scowl but itâs something of the sort, a narrowing of his eyes and a dryness to his voice. Itâs no better than a scowl anyway, his skepticism like a concrete wall between the two of you under the dim lights of the bar where Charlie is stuck with you, just where you want him. Warnings: 3.4k ish words. Porn with minimal plot, implied age gap, unprotected PIV, oral sex, truck sex, alcohol, pining, no use of y/n. This was written a bit fast lmfao A/N: This is my first ever Charlie Swan fic! It started as a joke (just like they all do), but I thought it might be fun to do something different. In case you enjoy my writing and want to see more, here are links to my ao3 and to a heavily Charlie inspired Narcos fanfic I wrote recently :)
Wearing a man down takes a while. It takes patience, a steady effort, bit by bit, like the thick clouds covering the sky above the evergreens only letting down a single drop of rain at a time. Charlie doesnât notice them at first â the little droplets of water heâs too used to from living in Forks, rain that might let up for a little while in July but comes back every time, like something he can count on if nothing else in this world.
They land on his jacket, on his badges, on his nametag â C. Swan in yellow lettering â on the black strands of his hair. One by one, they seep in, quickly forgotten, followed by more until the windshield wipers on his police cruiser push away the onslaught of rain thatâs inevitable at this time of year, on a foggy, hazy October evening when the headlights of the car light the way to his house, and heâs already drenched when he makes his way inside and changes out of his uniform.
They land on the thick flannel of a jacket that always hangs in his hallway, the house empty when he locks the door behind him and runs to his truck. The rain gets on his jeans, on his hair, it gets on the Mariners sweater underneath his jacket. The lettering across his chest reveals itself when he takes off the flannel and hangs it over the back of the chair he sits down on, nodding towards his friend at the bar.Â
His eyes scan the room from corner to corner, lazily combing through the other patrons of the bar until he spots you and you lock eyes. And youâre frozen, your friendsâ voices becoming a buzzing murmur next to you as you try not to move, try not to startle the man whose attention youâve pathetically yearned for, for so long, longer than youâll ever admit to the girls at your table, or even to yourself.Â
You have it now, for a moment that stretches like a ring in your ear, long enough for your lips to part, for you to swallow tightly around the fizzy, sweet sip in your mouth, to lick the drop that slides down your bottom lip. His gaze is as intense as it is dark, piercing through the crowd of people in a small bar in a place that nobody can place on a map, where you think it must just be a hallucination or that heâs looking at someone behind you.Â
But behind you is a window, and behind the window is nothing but a cover of trees, and his eyes flash open for a split second before they narrow, then trace down, only a quick glance at your torso before they slide back up. He clears his throat, swallows, and averts his eyes, attention caught by the beer set down in front of him. He nods and says something, then takes a sip, a little hastily, inhaling deeply before he leans back.Â
And then, there is nothing to do but to look and to wait.Â
Nothing to do but wait until he begins to feel those drops of attention, of glances and gazes from your end of the room. Heâs not chief Swan under this roof â heâs Charlie, heâs a man in his early forties, heâs a single dad whose daughter came to stay with him recently. Heâs a man with dark eyes and dark eyebrows, with a thick mustache and a gorgeous smile you know he hides. Maybe itâs rude to spy, but youâve had no other real option â a chronically good girl from the start, never acknowledged by any of the Forks PD officers, scurrying away from house parties at the first flash of a blue light, out through the yard and home to your parentsâ house.Â
You havenât gotten any attention from him since returning to your hometown either, coming back after nearly a decade away, still a goody two shoes through and through who doesnât leave the house after darkness settles in the streets. So all you have is random encounters, one-sided as theyâve all been, random sightings in bars and across the street, at a restaurant next to his daughter. And heâs always quiet, always observing his environment without interaction.Â
Until now, when it all seems to shatter in an instant, and his usual, calm demeanor is replaced by something flustered, maybe even nervous if you dare to think so. He takes to laughter a little too quickly, he smiles too much, nods along too enthusiastically when Billy speaks to him on his left. Â
You canât hear anything, regretfully â the rain drums on the window beside you and slides down to obscure the view of the forest that the bar is situated on the outskirts of. Your friends talk about something, something about nothing about guys or work or God knows what it is this time. Your elbows rest on the table and the top of a plastic straw sits between your lips as you slowly sip your drink.Â
Sometimes he looks over, following the same routine every time as the hour passes; a lull in the conversation, a polite smile, his eyes sliding down to the table, a glance up, and then his head turning slightly, eyes shifting in your direction until they meet yours and he quickly dodges the attention, straightening his back and clearing his throat.Â
Once, and only once, he lingers.Â
He lets his eyes narrow, focusing on you while you pretend to look away. And he shouldnât fall for little tricks like this, silly little girl tricks meant to dupe men much younger and dumber than himself, but heâs only a man, isnât he?Â
So it shouldnât be surprising that, when his friends excuse themselves to go outside for a smoke or to the bar for another round, he leans back and remains seated. And there is no other time but the present, so without excusing yourself, you suck down the rest of your drink, let the bottom of the glass slam against the tabletop, stand up and walk over to him.Â
You take a seat across from him and hold out your hand, your name the first thing out of your mouth and a firm handshake given when he reaches out.Â
âCharlie,â he says, and the nervousness you saw earlier must be nothing but an illusion.Â
âCharlie,â you repeat, a little softer and a little sweeter, âHowâs your night going?âÂ
âItâs alright.â God, heâs dry. If you were drunk, youâd make a joke about how wet it makes you. âAnd yours?â he asks.Â
âPretty good. Better now.âÂ
He breathes a laugh and looks around, presumably trying to figure out where you came from, but there are no answers in a bar full of people looking the other way.Â
âHavenât seen you around,â he says, âAre you from out of town?âÂ
âNope, from here. I was gone for, say, eight years getting my degrees, though.â
âOh?â he raises an eyebrow, and you indulge him for a little while, answering questions you canât tell if heâs asking as a father or a man, questions that come from the same place anyway, things heâd ask a young lady as you bet heâd say, to make small talk when heâs forced to.Â
Itâs not very interesting, but you canât scare him off either, canât plop down into his lap and touch his hair and beg for it. Itâs a slow process with a man like him, one that takes patience, and little droplets of attention, a splash of flirting here and there, every question back and forth, about school and work and yada yada smalltown shit. Itâs like the raindrops seeping into the fabric of his jacket, unnoticeable until it reaches his skin and heâs soaked, a humidity that clings to him, and fog he disappears in.Â
You glance up at the door and see his friends at a different table.Â
Time ticks by, and Charlie is dry as ever, regardless of how pathetically you try to squeeze your chest together and lean onto the table between you, regardless of how you try to nudge him with the glossy, heeled boot on your foot. He doesnât budge, he might offer you a smile in response to a fun story but itâs not getting you anywhere.Â
Itâs time to be aggressive, and when thereâs a lull between you, when the bar is still buzzing with chit chat and the lights are still low, you pounce.Â
âAre you seeing anyone these days?â you ask.Â
The man looks like he wants to laugh. âUhââ he clears his throat, âNo, not right now.â
âInteresting,â you purr, tilting your head to the side and flashing him a smile. âBest news Iâve gotten all day.â
He huffs. âYouâre a little young, arenât you?â he asks, and it isnât with a scowl but itâs something of the sort, a narrowing of his eyes and a dryness to his voice. Itâs no better than a scowl anyway, his skepticism like a concrete wall between the two of you under the dim lights of the bar, and Charlie is stuck with you, just where you want him.Â
So you shrug one shoulder and smile, pushing your lips together before they separate, and his eyes are on them so fast that itâs not even funny. âI wouldnât say so,â you say as you shake your head.Â
He almost seems humored, huffing a laugh as he looks around the room and shakes his head. âWhat about your friends?â he asks, âThey donât miss ya?âÂ
âProbably not,â you whisper, scrunching your nose at him. âDoes it look like they do?âÂ
You nod towards the table by the windows and his eyes follow, a quick look over at a group of girls all leaning in towards each other in conversation.Â
âGuess not,â he says, in the same flat tone of voice.Â
He clears his throat again, and his rejection is imminent, you think, so you try again, one last time.Â
âYouâre very handsome, Charlie.â Your chin rests on your knuckles, head tilted, eyes sweeping over his face like you have nothing to lose, and he might be able to hide his thoughts, but he canât hide his fluster.Â
âThanks,â he mutters and averts his eyes, looking at nothing in the corner of the room. âYouâre not, uhââ He looks up and spins his mostly-empty glass around, âNot too bad yourself.âÂ
Itâs a little bit like pulling teeth.Â
âThank you,â you say, then chew on the inside of your cheek while you try to think up a way to get him out of where heâs stuck, unwilling to make a move. âCould youâ could you give me a ride home?â
He rolls his eyes and nods, downing the last of his beer, and he absolutely thinks he has you figured out. His expression seems to default to a scowl, and itâs only then that you realize how cheerful he looked a moment ago. âAlright,â he groans, then mutters something under his breath while he grabs his jacket. âLetâs go.âÂ
âThank you, officer,â you beam, jumping up and following him through the bar, heading towards the exit.Â
He opens the door and lifts up his jacket to hold it above you, shielding you from the onslaught of rain pouring down when you step away from the awning outside the bar. Golden light shines out from the stained glass window in the door, bathing him in it as he waits for you to take the step you donât take.Â
âI donât actually need a ride home,â you admit shyly, looking up at him, âIâm just messing with you.âÂ
He blinks a few times and his eyes shift around as he breathes. âAlright, why did you get me out here then?âÂ
A laugh breaks out of you as you ask, âItâs not obvious?â
His brows pull together and he begins to shake his head when you roll your eyes, grab the back of his neck and pull him into a kiss. And it could be a mistake, but it doesnât quite feel like it when his hand finds your hip and he pulls you a little closer, reciprocating the kiss and carefully giving you his tongue.Â
He pulls back quickly, looking side to side, âLetâsââÂ
âYour truck?â
âSure, yeah,â he mumbles, and you hurry towards the only red vehicle at the far end of the lot, with Charlie on your heels and the rain beating down on his jacket above you, on his hair and his shoulders, soaking him by the time he steps in front of you and pulls open the passenger door.Â
He barely gets inside before you grab the collar of his sweater and pull him in, spit smearing and groans swallowed as you climb onto his lap. Heâs hard already, you can feel the thick of his zipper pushing up between your legs, before he even gets his hands on the bunched up fabric of your skirt piled onto your hips, kissing you again. And he lets his palms slide down over it, onto your ass, giving you a tentative squeeze with firm hands, while he grows thicker, harder, little grunts slipping out of him when you roll your hips over that firm bulk, every pass over it smearing wetness into your panties.
Until itâs too much, and the truck is too hot, too humid. You throw off your jacket, toss it into the passenger seat and pull away from him, climbing back into your seat, only on your knees, and begin to work at his belt.
You feel a hand at your shoulder, pushing gently. âYou donâtââ he inhales deeply as he shakes his head, âYou donât have to doââÂ
Your hands pause at the top of his pants and you peer up at him with a pout. âBut I want to,â you say, âCan I?âÂ
His head hits the back of his seat with a sigh, his eyes closing as he breathes in again and nods. âYeah,â he whispers, âYeah.â
He helps you with his belt then, undoing it with unsteady hands and lifting his hips when you pull the bunch of his pants and boxers down to reveal his cock, to see the thick length of it, the hair at his base and below his navel. You take it into your hand before he has the chance to say much of anything, and you feel his hand at the back of your neck, brushing your hair away â nothing obstructing his view as you drag the flat of your tongue up his shaft, all the way up to the tip where a bead of precome spills onto your lips.Â
He groans then, pushes down the top of his pants a little more and lets you take him into your mouth, his cockhead sliding into the back of your throat while he curses under his breath. Your spit smears over his crown and runs down his length, into the curve of your hand to let you stroke him, and every lick, every pull of your lips, makes him sigh and groan, makes more of his precome seep out onto your tongue for you to taste it, for you to swallow and let the soft wet of your mouth massage him.Â
And you think it must have been a while, because you suck and stroke his cock slowly for only a little while before he begins to mumble. âIâm getting, uhâ Iâm pretty close,â he says, and you pull off of him, still slipping your hand up and down his wet cock while you raise up and kiss the side of his neck.Â
He groans then too, grimacing a little.Â
âYou want to fuck me, Charlie?â you purr, âYou want me to ride you?â
He huffs a laugh like heâs surprised. âI donât have any condoms on me,â he says, his voice flat and dry as it ever was, but a little deeper, raspier, rougher-edged.Â
âYou could just pull out?â you suggest, licking a stripe up his neck just to feel the goosebumps chasing your tongue on his skin, âI could just swallow it instead.âÂ
âJesus,â he breathes, âYeah... Alright.âÂ
You pull off one boot and begin to yank at the waistband of your leggings, but he pats his thigh and pulls you back onto his lap.Â
âLet me,â he says, pushing his thumb under the soft fabric and the strap of your panties, pulling them down over your leg, only bothering with one and not the other, while the rain hammers down on the windshield and itâs silent for a moment, his hands steady and his gaze focused. His cock is still hard too, heavy as it lays against his stomach.Â
You stabilize above him, hovering over where he grabs the root of himself and glides his tip through your folds until he reaches your opening.Â
âDown,â he says, and you do as he tells you to, sinking onto his cock with a deep breath, pressing your lips to his so that your sigh is shared, letting the whole thing split you open, taking more and more until your hips are flush with his and he grunts, his cock pulses, you lean back and carefully lift up, then roll back down, slowly riding him, half kissing, half panting into him.Â
Itâs all slow, deep, squeezing around him, letting him slide out until only his tip stays within, and then taking him back inside and he pushes into your cervix, sure to leave you sore tomorrow. Everything is wet between you, smeared warm and sticky over your inner thighs, his groin, dripping down his shaft and over his balls, soaking into the top of his jeans.Â
His cock pushes into the most sensitive, soft part inside of you, over and over, rubbing over it while you reach down to massage your clit, still swapping spit like youâre teenagers and he doesnât have a decade on you. He twitches inside when you moan for him, groans low and rough when you begin to come and you ride him a little harder, faster.
He grabs your ass, lifts you just enough to get leverage, and starts to fuck you, pushing his face into the side of your neck and grunting into your skin, hot and sweaty at the roots of his hair when your run your fingers through it, trying to find something to hold onto, to stabilize when he hits just the right spot and you feel seconds away from unraveling. And the truck must be shaking, the sounds of your moans are only stifled by the sound of the rain tapping on the roof and sliding down the windows, the dark surroundings of a wet parking lot, the two of you tucked away at the very back while you feel every inch of him filling you, rubbing you, making you come once more.Â
Until he grunts a little louder, until he pants, âFuck, Iâm about to comeââ
You let your orgasm wane with a few slow rolls, savoring them, so few drags of his length inside that you can count them on one hand, and you lift off, climb over on shaking legs, sticking your bare ass up towards the foggy window and slip his wet cock into your mouth. A firm hand around his base, your tongue licking over his head, you suck him until his breath stutters and he releases hot spurts of come that you swallow while you stroke and tease and take every drop he gives you.Â
Heâs quiet after that, a careful hand on your back while you lick up the last smears of his orgasm and lay your cheek on his thigh, looking up at him.Â
âDid you like it?â you ask.Â
âOf course I liked it. Did you like it?âÂ
âYeah.âÂ
He looks out of the window, his cock softening against him while he runs a hand over your hair. âLet me take you to dinner or something,â he says after a minute, âMake me feel less⊠I donât know, sleazy?âÂ
You bite your lip and smile. "Will you drive me home after?â
He rolls his eyes and takes in a deep breath, catching your gaze with a smirk on his lips and something a little softer in his expression. "I was gonna do that anyway."

School is easy, all you have to do is sit there and look pretty. Well, that's what all your classmates thought. They didn't know how difficult school was for you. You never got what was happening in class. Anytime you got an answer wrong, no one batted an eye because who expects the rich pretty girl to get an answer right? But little did they know you would cry in the janitor's room after each time. You just hated feeling so dumb.
"Ugh, I'm not ready for today's test," Jaemin huffed, plopping down beside you.
"Wait, there's a test?" you sighed, already predicting the outcome.
Mr. Moon whispered a half-hearted "good luck" as he handed you the test, before moving on and finishing handing out everyone elseâs tests. He already knew how it was going to go.
You hated how even the teachers knew you were stupid.
After the test, you already knew you failed it. You were the last one to turn your test in, when Jaemin asked if you wanted to meet up with him, Jeno, Mark, and Chenle for lunch. You nodded telling him you had to stop at the office real quick.
Instead of walking towards the office, you sped walked to the janitor's closet, already feeling the tears threaten to escape. You knew you failed that test. Even though you acted like you didnât know you had a test, you lied. Youâve been studying for it for a long time. Even canceling plans. But you would never admit it to anyone. You studied your ass off but still failed, thatâs even more pathetic than forgetting about it.
You quickly took out the keys and opened the door quickly so no other student would see it. You thank the janitor for being so forgetful that you could easily steal one of his keys. He has a bunch of copies, one missing wouldnât hurt. Right as you locked the door you sat in the corner, not even bothering to turn the lights on.
you were always an ugly crier, but it was okay cause you bought the most expensive waterproof makeup for these occasions. Only a quick bathroom stop is needed before meeting your friends for lunch.
As you were drying your tears you heard the door jiggle and then open. you quickly hid your face just in case it was someone you knew.
"Y/N?" a voice you didn't recognize spoke, interrupting your quiet moment in the janitor's closet.
Confused, you wiped your face and looked up at the mystery voice. You kind of recognized the thick black glasses boy in front of you. You knew he was in some of your classes but you couldnât think of his name.
Fearing the worst you cleared your throat before asking âWhat do you want?â
âUh, I don't want anything!" the boy replied, swiftly stepping into the room and closing the door. You noticed he had his lunch tray with him. "This might sound pathetic, but I like to eat my lunch here."
confused, you asked him âWhy would you do that?â
âWell I donât really have friends and I donât want to get picked onâ he explained sitting down next to you, not having much of a choice because there wasnât that much room.
"Oh, I'm sorry for bothering you. I'll just go," you said, preparing to stand up. But before you could, he quickly called out your name, making you look down at him.
"You're not bothering me! You can stay and talk about what's going on. I know we don't talk, but I can listen to you." His hopeful eyes convinced you to sit back down. You quickly wiped away your tears before confiding in him.
âYou canât tell anyone this!â You put your pinky finger up and put it near him. âpromise?â
âI donât have many people to tellâ he let out a small laugh while putting his hands up defensively. âpromise!â he took your pinky finger in his
âokayâ you nodded âI failed my psychology test todayâ
you looked at his face and he looked confused âWhat?â you questioned
âOh it's just, you always fail your tests. Everyone knows thatâ
As he said that you felt the tears start to come back. Of course, he wouldnât get it. Why did you ever think he would get it?
âI didnât mean it like that, Iâm so sorryâ he panicked âI shouldnât have said that!â
you turn away, quickly wiping away your tears again. âno I get it, Iâm the dumb girlâ
"No, no, no, that's not what I meant. Hey, want to hear something embarrassing about me? I'm only here because of a scholarship. That's why no one wants to be friends with me!" he confessed.
you start to giggle âThatâs not embarrassing!â
âIt made you laugh! But here is something actually embarrassing, my teacher forgot my name today. Even though I've had her for the whole year.â
Your eyes widen, feeling bad that you forgot his name.
âahh you donât know my name eitherâ
you smile âIf you tell me your name, Iâll forgive youâ
âhaechanâ
âThat's a nice name, haechanâ You smiled at the way it rolled off your tongue.Â
âthank you, I have a proposition or a proposalâ
âI know what proposition meansâ you teased
he giggled, âIâll help you studyâ
your eyes lit up, âreally? What can I do for you?â
he avoided your eyes and cleared his throat âBe my friendâ
your eyes softened âThatâs not hard, I was going to be your friend after this conversation anywaysâ You pushed his shoulder.
He finally met your eyes and smiled at you. âthen you donât have to do anything, friends help friendsâ
As the bell faintly rang, you pulled out your phone. "Here, give me your number so we can talk."
he paused for a second before taking your phone
standing up and thanking him before you quickly left to go touch up your makeup in the bathroom. Reminding yourself you would have to tell Jaemin you were sorry for ditching him and the guys.
You walked into your next class as the late bell rang.Â
âthere you are! Jaemin told me you ditched usâ Mark laughed.Â
âI didn't mean to ditch you guys, just got carried away.âÂ
âcarried away, with what?âÂ
âI was working on my psychology essay, and I can't believe she makes us write one every week!â you huffed out, setting your bag down before sitting down.Â
âCould have just said you were talking to guys instead of lying.â Mark laughed, too interested in whatever was on his phone to notice your face drop. What did your friends think of you?Â
âWhat do you mean?âÂ
Mark glanced at you before laughing, âYou always procrastinate, there is no way you even started it!âÂ
Instead of arguing you turned to face the front, pulling out your notebook. The essay is due in two days, of course, you started it. There would be no way for you to finish the four pages if you didn't. Turning towards Mark again you huffed out, âWell someone is helping me study.â
Shocked, Mark quickly faced towards you âWhat? What happened to y/n?âÂ
You scoffed, âReally? That surprisingâ
âI am, you never really cared for gradesâ
âWell I'm sick of failing every testâÂ
âSo who's helping you out?â Mark leaned towards you âCould have just asked meâ
âHis name is Haechanâ
Markâs eyebrows furrowed âThat one kid that eats in the bathroom?â
âHe doesn't eat in the bathroom!â You defendedÂ
âJust be careful, heâs a little weirdâÂ
âWhat do you mean, you donât even know himâ You started to get upset.
âHe doesn't really talk to anyoneâ He could see how your face scrunched up and you were about to start an argument with him so he shrugged, not really caring âWhy didn't you ask me, I'm one of the top studentsâ
You didn't really want to explain what happened so you just blew his question off. Before he could press you for an answer, the teacher walked in.Â
Haechannieđ€đ»: When do you want to start?
Y/Nâșïž: I have my psychology paper due soon. Could you read it over before I turn it in?
Haechannieđ€đ»: Yeah meet me at the public library after schoolÂ
Y/Nâșïž: Thanks!
Haechannieđ€đ»: No problem :)
Jaemin and Jeno are probably thinking you're going crazy when you tell them you didn't need a ride after school. But you didn't want them to drop you off at the library and question you the same way Mark did in class. So you just said you were meeting up with a girlfriend of yours who wanted to walk to the park. At the mention of a girl, they didnât question anything.Â
Now that's how you ended up looking around the library for Haechan. He wasn't on the first or second floor, so you started making your way up to the third floor. Questioning why he even would go all the way up there, no one liked the third floor. As you looked around you spotted Haechan sitting at a table in the corner.Â
As he heard you coming, he looked up and smiled. âTook you long enough!â
âWho even uses the third floor of the library, all the books up here are just textbooks.â You huffed out, setting your bag down and taking out everything you needed.Â
âThatâs the whole point! Itâs quiet up hereâÂ
You can admit, that he has a point! Maybe you will actually start using the third floor more. As if you ever go to the public library without your friends dragging you there. Liking your room for studying a lot more because there are no judging eyes.Â
âOkay, letâs get started! Let me see what you have alreadyâ Haechan smiled at you.Â
You pulled out your notebook and quickly found the page you started to write on before handing it to Haechan. As you handed it to him, your fingers brushed, which made Haechan pull away quickly.Â
You watched as his eyes read through everything you wrote. Anxiety started to fill you up. What if it was really bad and he thinks you're even more of an idiot than before? Ugh, heâs a nice guy, he wouldn't think like that. But you donât really know himâ Before your inner monologue continues Haechan put down your notebook. Shock showed in his eyes.Â
âWow, that was really good! The way you described Sensation and Perception was easy to understand. How do you usually fail with papers like this?â
Shocked that he actually liked your paper it took you a couple of seconds to register his question. âI usually get good grades on my papers and in-class work, but tests always seem to get to me.âÂ
âmmm, I understand,â Haechan hummed. âA lot of people have test anxiety, I have some tips I can give you if you wantâÂ
Your eyes lit up as you nodded, eager to hear what he had to say.Â
âItâs getting quite late, maybe we should start wrapping this up?â Haechan yawned.Â
You quickly looked at the time, not believing him that it was so late. You gasped, shocked at how quickly time passed with Haechan. âOh, I better get going, before my mom starts to ask questions.âÂ
âYeah, I have to get going too. It was nice hanging out with you.â Haechan quickly gathered up all his things before moving to leave.Â
âWait!âÂ
Haechan paused looking at you confused.Â
âWhat are you doing tomorrow after class?âÂ
âNothing, until I have to go in for workâ Haechan sighed âI donât want to study again tomorrowâ
A little taken aback by the change in his tone, you quickly cleared things up âThatâs not what I was going to ask you! I wanted to know if you wanted to hang out, like at the mall or somethingâ
you couldn't quite read the emotion on Haechanâs face. Was he shocked? Happy? Confused? Maybe a little bit of each.Â
âOh um yeah, we can hang out.âÂ
âGood, Iâll text you the detailsâ You smiled before turning away and leaving him to stand there not knowing what was going on in his head.Â
The final bell rang as you rushed out to find Haechan. Earlier promising that you both would take the bus to the mall together.Â
Your eyes lit up seeing him standing at the bus stop, calling out a quick âHaechanâ to get his attention. Which seemed to work as he found you in the crowd of other students.Â
As you finally pushed through all the people to get to Haechan, your face dropped. He wasn't looking at you anymore. âWhatâs wrong?âÂ
âYou donât want to be caught hanging out with me, it will ruin your reputation.â He whisperedÂ
Taken aback you laughed, which turned into a heavier laugher. Shocked and confused by your reaction, Haechan turned towards you, watching you laugh like you were crazy. âIâm not joking! Hanging out with me in public is literally social suicideâ
You took a couple of deep breaths before answering him âHaechan, this isn't some teen drama! Who even cares about thatâÂ
Haechan looked embarrassed by this and started to fiddle with his fingers. You saw the bus starting to pull up so you took hold of his hand. Stopping him from fiddling with them and making sure you didn't lose him to the crowd of people waiting for the bus.Â
If you were paying more attention, you would have seen how bright his cheeks turned. Before quickly snapping out of it.Â
As you got onto the bus, you noticed how full it was. Only noticed one seat in the back. quickly you pulled him towards the back and offered him the seat.Â
Shaking his head, he told you to sit down. But you insisted that you were okay with standing. Looking around you noticed the other people starting to get annoyed, even hearing an older lady saying she hates teenage couples.Â
Before he could protest, you pushed him down onto the seat and sat on his knee. âAre you happy now? Itïżœïżœïżœs a win-win situation, we both get to sit nowâ You smiled.Â
The whole ride there was silent. Maybe the stunt you pulled on the bus was a little too much for him to handle.Â
But you didn't let that stop you from grabbing his hand when the bus finally arrived at the mall. Excitedly telling Haechan about all your favorite stores and sales that are going on right now.Â
He didn't seem to care when you kept dragging him to different clothing and makeup stores. It wasn't until you noticed how uncomfortable he was did you realized how rude you were being.Â
âOh shit sorry, where do you want to go next?â
Taken back by this Haechan quickly tried to brush it off âNo itâs okay, where do you want to go next?â Not letting him dodge the question you push him for an answer. âNo, come on, let's go somewhere you like next!â
âUh I like GamestopâÂ
âThen we are off to Gamestop, I know where it is because itâs next to my favorite shoe store!âÂ
Haechanâs eyes lit up when he saw the new Lord of the Fallen had been released. âCool! Iâve been waiting for this to come outâ But as quickly as he picked it up he put it down.Â
âYou're not going to get it?â You questioned
âOh no, itâs too much moneyâ He turned to look at other things, leaving you the opportunity to grab and pay for the game without him knowing.Â
Finding him in the back, you asked if he was finished looking around. Which earned you a nod. As you stepped out of the store, you held up the bag. âWhat did you get?â Haechan asked, confused.Â
âItâs for youâ You giggled handing him the bag.Â
He hesitated before looking in the bag and gasping âY/n, this is $80!âÂ
âThatâs nothing! I love buying my friends things that I know they will likeâ You smiled, hooking your arm with his. âNow I'm hungry, let's go eat.âÂ
The food court wasn't your first choice, but haechan insisted. Arguing that he knew you were going to try to pay for his food if you went to some fancy restaurant. Which he is right, you would have. But you settled for paying for his Taco Bell instead.Â
âLet's go near the carousel I love the view and plus not a lot of people sit over thereâ
Haechan nodded, letting you show the way.Â
Everything was going very smooth. You wanted to do this again and again. But as you were in your own world you heard voices call out âHyuckâ. Haechan's eyes widened and looked around.Â
Two boys, one tall and one short, sat down near you guys.Â
âLong time no see, we missed you!â The taller one said either not knowing or not caring about your presence.Â
The shorter one cleared his throat before asking Haechan âSo are you going to introduce usâÂ
Haechan laughed nervously before looking at you, pointing to the shorter one âThis is Huang Renjunâ and then pointing to the taller one who seem to now noticed you were there âAnd this is Park JisungâÂ
Before Haechan could speak you smiled âI'm F/N L/N!âÂ
Haechan winced at your mentioning your last name. You looked at the other guys and their faces dropped. Confused, you asked âwhat's wrong?âÂ
Haechan quickly cleared his throat and explained âItâs nothing! We used to know someone with that last name and so they're just surprised.âÂ
The two boys looked confused before nodding âSorry, just bad memoriesâ Renjun forced a smile before getting up and announcing âOh weâre gonna be late for our movie, letâs go JisungâÂ
They left before you could even get in another word. Noticing your shock, Haechan shakes his head âThose are my friends from my childhood, we haven't talked in a while because we go to different schools now.âÂ
Not wanting to push you just hummed.
Something felt weird but you didn't want to bring it up. Today has been one of your favorites and you didn't want to sour the mood by letting Haechan know his friends acted a bit rude.Â
So the whole time you didn't bring it up, instead going back to your cheery self. After a few more stores, you both decided that was enough for today and Haechan really needed to get home so he could get enough sleep before having to go to his part-time job.Â
Soon days, weeks, and months flew by. Hanging out with Haechan really made things go by so quickly. You liked his company. So did your teachers, complimenting you on passing all your tests. One even accused you of cheating, but Haechan stepped in and confessed he had been helping you study.
Even your parents seemed to notice the change in your mood. Your mother loves getting her cheerful daughter back. The only people who seemed to hate the ânew and improved y/nâ were your best friends. It started with Jaemin accusing you of sleeping with Mr. Moon because he swore thereâs no way you could have gotten scored higher on your test then him. Obviously, you were pissed that he could even suggest something like that.
So you ended up admitting to your not-so-secret tutoring sessions to your friends one day at lunch.
âSo that's where you've been during lunch?â Chenle questioned.Â
âYes, weâve been eating in the library togetherâÂ
âSo youâve been ditching us for that nerd this whole time!â Jenoâs voice raised, causing some of the other students in the cafeteria to look at your table.Â
âDonât call him a nerd!âÂ
âBut he is one!â Jeno threw his hands up in the air.Â
âJust because he gets good grades? Then why donât you call Mark or Jaemin a nerd?â
âY/N Come on, why are you defending him? Heâs just some loser who eats in the bathroom when you're not at schoolâ Chenle laughed, trying to get everyone to calm down.Â
Taken back by how rude your best friends were, you looked around and made eye contact with Haechan.Â
He was supposed to meet your friends today. He was really excited after you hyped all of them up. But as he was walking to your table, you could tell that he heard everything.Â
You saw how his eyes were starting to water.Â
âMaybe he is a nerd but he is way hotter than all of you! Bet he can actually get me to cum unlike any of youâ You smirked knowing this would get on their nerves. Hitting it where it hurt, their egos.Â
You heard Jaemin scuff, âYeah right, we all know your type! You wouldn't even kiss himâÂ
Taking the challenge, you looked around and spotted Haechan again. But this time his face was red and his eyes were wide. You smirked, âwanna bet?âÂ
The tension in the cafeteria was thick after your bold statement, and all eyes seemed to be on the unfolding drama. Your best friends wore expressions of disbelief mixed with irritation. You made your way over to Haechan.
Haechan's eyes showed surprise, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. You could feel the weight of the challenge in the air as you took a hold of his sweater collar, the fabric warm beneath your fingers. The cafeteria buzzed with hushed whispers and curious glances, but your focus was solely on him.
Pulling him down gently, your lips hovered near Haechan's ear, and you breathed out a teasing question. "Can I?" The words were soft, carrying a hint of playfulness.
In response, Haechan nodded fervently, his eyes wide with anticipation. "Please," he whispered back, his voice barely audible.
With a mischievous smirk, you seized the moment, closing the distance between your lips and Haechan lips. Time seemed to slow as the cafeteria fell into a stunned silence, and then erupted into a mix of gasps, whispers, and scattered applause. The unexpected turn of events had caught everyone off guard, including your best friends, who now wore expressions ranging from shock to disbelief.
Breaking the kiss, you stepped back. You saw how Haechan went to lean back in again. Quickly placing a short kiss to his lips you whispered âeveryone watching usâ His eyes widened and looked around the cafeteria. Making you giggle and whisper a hushed âCuteâ
After your little stunt in the cafeteria, everyoneâs been asking you who that guy was and if you two are dating. You already knew poor Haechan was getting the same questions.Â
Y/Nđâ€ïž: People keep asking me if youâre a good kisser
Haechannieđ€đ»: Well am I?
Y/Nđâ€ïž: Absolutely
Y/Nđâ€ïž: What are you doing after school?
Haechannieđ€đ»: Working and then going home
Y/Nđâ€ïž: When do you get off? Want to hang out with you
Haechannieđ€đ»: 9 pm, at the convenience store on the other side of town
Haechannieđ€đ»: we can hang out only if you promise to kiss me again
Y/Nđâ€ïž: weâll see ;)
The convenience store was a far walk from your house so you asked your friend Yuna to drive you. But that didnât stop your parents from scolding you for going out so late. All you had to say was that you were staying over at Yunaâs house. Yuna is your mom's best friend's daughter. She had no problem with this because last summer you had to do the same thing for her.Â
There was only a few people at the convenience store. You saw Haechan slumped over at the counter scrolling through his phone. âArenât you supposed to be workingâ
Haechan jumped up from his sitting position, ready to be scolded by his manager. But when his eyes landed on you he shook his head âAh you scared me! I still have 10 minutes until closingâÂ
âI wanted to get here early, I heard there is a cute cashier boy hereâ you smirked
You can already see Haechanâs face start to become a light shade of red.Â
âStop flirting with me, I'm working!âÂ
Before you could say a comeback, an older guy put down his stuff on the register.Â
âSheâs just trying to get free stuffâ The random guy scoffed
Taken aback you scoff, tilting your head âWhat do you mean by that?â
âYouâre too pretty for himâ
You looked at Haechan and saw his head lower.Â
Looking back at the guy you laugh âNerdy guys are the freakiestâ you winked
Haechanâs eyes widened, not being able to make eye contact with anyone.Â
âAll girls are the sameâ The guy harshly stated before throwing ten dollars on the counter and leaving.Â
âHow do you know Iâm freaky?â Haechan busted out laughing.Â
âI donât but guys hate when their masculinity is threatenedâ You shrug.
âSo what do you want to do after I closeâÂ
âI donât know, I told my parents I was staying over with a friend tonight. So Iâm all yoursâ
âAll mine? I like the sound of thatâ Haechan smirked leaning in âI live aloneâ
You gasp âHow do you live alone?âÂ
âItâs a small place, I donât have a relationship with my parents anymoreâ Haechan grabbed the keys to close the shop. âItâs not too far from here, only a five-minute walkâÂ
Entering Haechan's apartment, the reality of his living space matched his earlier description. It kind of reminded you of a college dorm. Only a small living area with his bed and a tiny hallway that leads to his bathroom.Â
As you took in the surroundings, Haechan couldn't help but laugh at your reaction. "I told you it was small," he remarked, his eyes glinting with amusement. "It's not the fanciest part of town, but it's affordable."
"It's nice!" you assured him, a genuine smile gracing your face.
Haechan, skeptical, teased, "You don't have to lie to me."
Your laughter filled the room. "I'm not lying! I was expecting much worse for a guy living alone." Your lighthearted comment elicited a chuckle from Haechan, getting rid of any lingering tension.
Looking around the compact space, you ask, "So, what do you want to do?"
"I was promised a kiss," Haechan said with a mischievous smirk.
Your laughter continued, but before you could respond, you felt his hand gently cup your face, pulling you into a kiss. This wasn't like the previous one in the cafeteria; it was more intense, and filled with passion.
As the kiss deepened, Haechan guided you backward until the back of your knees met his bed, causing you to gently fall onto it. Yet, he didn't break the kiss, instead, he adjusted his position to hover over you. Placing his knee between your legs, he elicited a soft moan from you. The sound only fueled Haechan's desire, and he broke the kiss momentarily, his gaze locking onto yours.
"You sound so beautiful," he murmured, his eyes fulled with desire. His fingers delicately traced the curve of your jawline, leaving a trail of electrifying sensations.
The air was charged with a blend of desire and anticipation as Haechan, deepening the kiss and found a comfortable position on top of you.
His hands, warm and assertive, traced subtle patterns along your sides, sending shivers down your spine. The small apartment seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of you entangled in the intoxicating rhythm of the kiss.
As the kiss continued to deepen, Haechan's movements became more deliberate. He pressed himself against you, and the warmth of his body radiated through the layers of clothing, intensifying the sensations.
The noisy world outside seemed to disappear, leaving only the echo of shared breaths and the subtle noise of hearts beating together.
Breaking away from the kiss, Haechan's eyes held an unspoken question, seeking affirmation in the depths of your gaze. Without uttering a word, you nodded, granting permission.
Haechan's lips traced a path from your mouth, leaving a trail of lingering kisses along your jawline and down your neck. Each touch sent shivers through your body, awakening a heightened awareness of the closeness between you.
As Haechan's fingers delicately traced patterns on your skin, he whispered âGod I canât get enough of youâ.Â
âI need you inside of me right nowâ You moaned as he started to take your shirt off.
Your words seemed to ignite something in Haechan, his eyes darkening with desire. He gently removed your shirt, his touch making your skin tingle.
You felt Haechanâs warm breath against your skin as he buried his face in your breasts. The sensation of his lips approaching your skin caused you to gasp, and the sound fueled his desire. As his lips made contact with your nipple, you felt a wave of pleasure run through you.
âGod, Haechanâ
His lips found yours once again. The pleasure of his lips on yours left you intoxicated. The feeling of the soft sheets against your bare skin and the warmth of Haechanâs body made you feel safe, yet vulnerable. Your heart skipped a beat as you felt his lips take your nipple in his mouth yet again, and the pleasure and excitement was overwhelming. The intensity of the sensations had left you without words, and you felt yourself wanting to scream with pleasure.
âG-Godâ
The moan that escaped from your lips seemed to ignite something in Haechan, and he moved his mouth to your other breast, leaving a trail of hot kisses. Each one caused you to gasp with pleasure and your hands explored the his back from under his shirt. The pleasure and excitement was too much, and you needed him inside you, but he kept teasing you in different ways.
When he finally moved to kiss you again, his hands gently moved down your body to rest on your waist. He seemed to be asking if it was okay to continue, and you nodded, silent. His hands moved to take off your pants, and you felt your heart start to race.Â
His touch was gentle and soft, and his lips were warm against your skin, leaving behind a trail of goosebumps. You could feel the bulge in his pants pressing against you. The feeling of his skin against yours was intoxicating. As his hands kept tracing patterns across your skin. As his lips reached your thighs, you moaned with pleasure, begging for more
"Please..." you moaned, "I need you inside me."
Haechan looked up and gave you a mischievous grin, and his body tensed for a moment before he moved to undress himself. His movements left you breathless, and you stared at him as he removed his pants. The light of the room glinted off of his skin, and you felt your body start to quiver with anticipation.
His eyes seemed to penetrate you as he looked at you, as if he could see things you didn't want anyone to know about. There was a moment of silence as the two of you stared at each other, before he moved over you and hovered on top of you. The moment was perfect, the way his body molded to yours.
His lips found yours once again, and the kiss started off soft but eventually deepened. The intensity of the moment was something you had never experienced before, and your body felt on fire as his hands explored your skin. As his fingers traced patterns on your skin, you felt more and more aroused, and you moaned with pleasure as his fingers moved down across your sensitive skin to your underwear.
As you felt his fingers graze across your most sensitive parts, you gasped with pleasure, and Haechan smiled
âyouâre hands please, i just need something inside of meâ you begged.
Haechan smirked as he continued to tease you over your underwear. âthen we have to get rid of theseâ
He slowly removed them before stuffing them into his nightstand.
You could feel your heart pounding in your chest as Haechan's fingers continued to tease you over your underwear. Your body throbbed with need, and you couldn't help but beg for more. The anticipation was driving you wild, and you craved the touch of his hands inside of you.
"Please, Haechan," you whimpered, your voice laced with desperation. "I need you inside me."
Haechan's smirk widened, his eyes darkening with desire. He knew exactly what he was doing to you, reveling in every moment of your vulnerability. Without a word, he slowly removed your underwear and discarded it into the nightstand.
The cool air caressed your exposed flesh, making you shudder in anticipation. Haechan positioned himself between your thighs, his gaze intense and hungry. You could feel the heat radiating off his body as he hovered over you, his breath mingling with yours.
His lips crashed onto yours once again, this time with an even fiercer hunger. The kiss was bruising, and passionate, as if he wanted to consume every ounce of your being. His hands roamed your body, leaving a trail of fire in their wake. Every touch sent electric shocks through you, heightening your desire.
But Haechan was not one to rush. He knew the power of anticipation. His fingers danced along the curves of your thighs. You squirmed beneath his touch, unable to suppress the moans that escaped your lips.
"Patience," he murmured against your skin, his voice laced with a raw sensuality that made your heart race. "I want to savor every moment."
His words only fueled the fire within you, igniting a primal need that consumed your thoughts. You could no longer wait, your body aching and yearning for release. With desperate boldness, you reached for him and pulled him closer. Haechan's eyes gleamed with a mixture of surprise and desire as you guided his hand to where you needed him most.
Without hesitation, his fingers slipped between your slick folds, finding your throbbing core. His touch was electrifying, sending waves of ecstasy through your body. You arched your back, giving him better access as he explored every inch of you, driving you to the edge.
As his fingers moved in delicious circles, your moans filled the room, mingling with the sound of his breathless whispers in your ear. It was as if time had stopped, leaving only the two of you.
Haechan's lips found yours once again, muffling the cry that escaped from deep within you as he brushed against your most sensitive spot. Your body shook with pleasure.
Every stroke sent shockwaves coursing through your body, building the pleasure to an unbearable peak. Your hips instinctively rose to meet his ministrations, wanting to feel even closer to him. The room seemed to spin as you felt your orgasm start to wash over you.
Haechan's fingers quickened their pace, pushing you further. With a sudden burst of overwhelming pleasure, your climax finally crashed over you. Your body shuddered beneath Haechan's touch as waves of intense bliss radiated from your core. It was an explosion of ecstasy that left.
As you finally started to get all your senses back you quickly reached out to Haechan. "Let me make you feel good too"
Haechan's cheeks flushed with embarrassment as he chuckled nervously, avoiding your gaze. "I-I get pleasure just from giving you pleasure," he stuttered.
The corners of your lips turned up in a sly smile as you teasingly asked, "Did you cum in your pants?"
In response, Haechan groaned and buried his face on your neck. "You just sounded so beautiful, I couldn't resist," he admitted shamefully.
You couldn't help but feel a mix of desire and amusement at his confession. Pulling away from him, you leaned into captured his lips with yours. "That's incredibly hot," you muttered against his mouth before breaking into a giggle.
"Alright," you said with a mischievous glint in your eye, "let's get cleaned up...and maybe we can find a way to get out of those pants too."
In the morning, you felt the warmth of hands around your body. With a content smile, you turned around to find Haechan already awake, looking at you. "Good morning, beautiful."
"How long have you been awake?" you inquired.
"Not too long, I didn't want to wake you up" he replied.
Leaning in to plant a morning kiss on Haechan's lips, you were halted midway. "I messed up," he confessed.
Shocked, you asked, "What do you mean?"
"I slept with my only friend," he admitted.
A chuckle escaped you. "Well, if you play your cards right, you might end up with a girlfriend instead."
He chuckled at your response, pulling you in for another kiss
As the soft morning light streamed through the curtains, the intimacy between you and Haechan deepened. The laughter from the lighthearted exchange lingered as he pressed his lips against yours.
Breaking the kiss, Haechan looked into your eyes with a mix of affection and sincerity. "I'm serious, though. I don't want this to change things between us."
You traced your fingers gently along his cheek, reassuringly. "Haechan, it doesn't change anything. We both have our pasts, and what matters is what we have now."
A grateful smile played on his lips as he held you close, appreciating the comfort of the moment. "You're amazing, you know that?"
The tenderness in his words made your heart flutter. "You're not too bad yourself," you teased, your fingers intertwining with his.
Your mother has noticed a change in your demeanor, catching glimpses of smiles and laughter while you were on your phone. Initially, you tried to dismiss it, claiming it was just conversations with friends, but the façade crumbled when your mother overheard you on a Facetime call, and she didn't recognize the voice. Peeking into your room she also didnât notice the face on the screen.
Now, you found yourself anxiously anticipating how your parents would react to meeting Haechan for the first time. Your mother insisted on the introduction, pointing out that you had never appeared as happy with your previous partners. Which you had to give it to her, it was true.Â
While you were confident your mother would adore Haechan, your concern was with your father. He was often distant, engrossed in his role as the owner of a major technology company. His strict views on your relationships were rooted in a desire to maintain a family business, yet he doubted your ability to contribute to it.
Hoping your father would be too occupied to attend dinner wasn't far-fetched, he frequently skipped family gatherings. However, your mother's pleas for him to take a rare evening off for his "precious" daughter won him over.
When you first brought it up with Haechan he was terrified. Always saying he was too busy to meet them.
But you finally caught him. He was complaining that he hasn't seen you in some time and that he misses you. So you asked if he was free later. Implying something sexual so he would change his plans if he needed to. When he took the bait and said he would be free all weekend, you told him to get ready to meet your parents.Â
As the doorbell rang, you rushed to answer it before anyone else could. "You look so handsome," you cooed, admiring Haechan in a suit that, while not perfectly fitted, he still made it look good.
Haechan, in turn, was taken aback by your appearance. Clad in a baby pink puffy spring dress with pearl accessories, you radiated elegance. The elaborate outfit was your response to your father's decision to turn a family dinner into a business-oriented event.
Warned in advance, Haechan contemplated rescheduling, but your disappointment look and tears swayed him.Â
"I can't do this," he admitted.
"Yes, you can. It's okay," you reassured him, leading him toward the dining room.
As the evening unfolded, Haechan appeared more nervous than usual. Sensing his discomfort, you offered solace by whispering in his ear, "We can go to my room after we finish dinner." This seemed to ease his tension, evident in the subtle relaxation of his shoulders.
Upon entering the dining room, you wore a big smile, catching your mother's approving gaze. "Ah, this must be Haechan! I've heard great things about you," she greeted warmly.
"I've heard a lot about you too, Ms. [Last Name]," Haechan replied.
The initial interactions went smoothly. Haechan answered a few questions from your mother, and the room dissolved into various conversations. However, your father remained engrossed in discussions with his employees, seemingly oblivious to Haechan's presence.
Sensing Haechan's ongoing nervousness, you discreetly held his hand under the table. "You're doing amazing, we can sneak out soon."
As if on cue, your father redirected his attention to Haechan, acknowledging his presence. "How rude of me! I haven't even spoken to my daughter's new boyfriend," he announced. "So, what is it your parents do for a living?"
Haechan hesitated before revealing, "Well, they don't do much anymore. I work at a convenience store to pay for my apartment."
Your father raised an eyebrow. "Already working for yourself, impressive. Do you do anything else in your free time?"
Releasing the breath of air you were holding in, you smile. This was a small victory, your father rarely asked the guys you brought over questions. Not even caring for your friends. Remembering the time Jeno once threw up in your bathroom from how your father kept ignoring him.Â
"My father taught me how to code when I was younger," Haechan disclosed.
"That's impressive," your father acknowledged, swirling his wine before taking a sip. "What's your surname? You look familiar."
Haechan gulped before confessing, "Lee."
A collective widening of eyes among your father's employees followed, and your father smirked. "I knew you looked familiar, Lee Donghyuck."
Confusion furrowed your eyebrows. You expected Haechan to correct your father, but instead, he flinched and looked at you.
"I'm guessing you lied to my daughter?" your father quipped. "What was the name you came up with again? Haechan."
Tears welled up in your eyes, and to salvage any remaining dignity, you stood up and hurriedly left the room.
Your mother exchanged a glance with Haechan before whispering something to him. He excused himself from the table and followed you.
You slammed the door shut, intending to cry alone. However, Haechan entered the room moments later.
"Please let me explain first," Haechan begged, attempting to pull you in an embrace, but you resisted.
"What is there to explain? Have you been lying to me this whole time?"
"No, God, no! Yes, my name is Donghyuck.. Haechan is just a nickname," he clarified. "My dad worked at your father's company, coding for years until he was fired. They wanted someone younger."
He gently held your face in his hands, "At first, I hated you. But when I saw you tearing up and running to the janitor's closet, it made my heart hurt, so I had to follow you."
"I told you my name was Haechan because that's what I go by in school. I wouldn't have gotten the scholarship if they knew who I was related to. Your father basically runs this town! I had to!"
"I swear I was going to tell you, but then I started developing feelings for you. I couldn't risk it! This is the best thing to ever happen to me, you're the best thing to ever happen to me!"
As you stood there, emotions swirling within you, you listened to Haechan's explanation. His vulnerability and genuine regret were evident in every word.
A mixture of anger, confusion, and empathy danced on the surface of your emotions. "Haechan, why didn't you trust me enough to tell me the truth?" you asked, your voice a blend of hurt and frustration.
his eyes pleading for understanding. "I wanted to, but the fear of losing you, or jeopardizing everything we had, it paralyzed me. I never meant to lie to you. I just didn't know how to tell you."
You took a deep breath, attempting to collect your thoughts. The truth was a bitter pill to swallow, but his honesty and the vulnerability in his eyes struck a chord. "You should have trusted me, Haechan. Relationships are built on trust, not on secrets and lies."
He nodded, remorse written across his features. "I know, and I'm so sorry. I never wanted to hurt you, and I understand if you can't forgive me."
The room fell silent for a moment, the weight of everything hanging in the air. You finally spoke, "I need time to process this. It's not just about the lie but the fact that you felt you had to hide something from me. Trust is something we'll need to work on."
Haechan nodded, his eyes reflecting a mix of regret and determination. "I'll do whatever it takes to make things right, even if it takes time.â
âI love you, and I'll always be honest with you from now on," he promised, enfolding you in a tight embrace.
Your body resisted at first, still in shock of everything that just happened, but you eventually gave in, wrapping your arms around him. The familiar scent of his cologne and the warmth of his embrace made you realize how much you loved him despite the lies.Â
You looked him in his eyes, studying his face before slowly letting your body finally connect your lips to his.Â
Haechanâs kiss was soft and gentle at first, but it quickly grew in intensity as the passion between the two of you grew. You felt his hands on your waist as he pulled you closer, deepening the kiss.
Despite the initial shock and hurt, you found yourself unable to resist Haechanâs touch, his lips, the way he made you feel. You knew trust would take time to build, but right now, you couldn't resist the heat between the two of you.
Haechanâs hands moved up to your hair, tangling in the strands as he deepened the kiss even further. âDonghyuckâ You moaned softly, unable to control the pleasure that coursed through you.
âI love the way you moan my nameâ he growled
As the kiss came to an end, you were both left breathless, panting from the intensity of the moment. You looked up into Donghyuckâs eyes, seeing the love and desire there, and you couldn't help but smile. âI love you so muchâ he whispered
"I love you too,"
Your eyes met his and your lips curved into a smile. "Thank you."
"For what?" he asked
"For loving me enough to tell me the truth," you responded.
âI will never hurt you againâ
You stared silently, soaking in his presence, and a moment later, a small smile stretched across your lips. Donghyuck pulled you in for another heated kiss causing you to let out a small moan before pulling away slightly.Â
âYou promise?â voice still shaky from the kiss.
Donghyuck grinned, his hands moved to your waist. There was a brief moment of discomfort as he lifted you onto your bed, but your objection was quickly silenced once you regained your balance.
You couldn't help but giggle at the boyish grin on Donghyckâs face as he looked at you from between your legs.
âI promiseâ he spoke as his hands traced the edges of your panties underneath your dress, teasing you and leaving you desperate for more.
A mischievous grin spread across Donghyuckâs face as he slowly began to slide your panties down, revealing more and more of your skin. You bit your lip, enjoying the sensation as he removed the final bit of fabric.
Donghyuckâs hands quickly moved to hook your legs around his waist, and you felt his fingers move towards your wet core. He teased you for a few minutes before moving his fingers up your slit, one finger brushing against your clit.
You moaned softly, biting your lip as you tried to keep yourself from making too much noise. You couldnât help yourself though, the sensation overwhelming you as he began to circle your clit.
The sensation was so intense you couldnât help but squirm beneath Donghyuck, his lips leaving a trail of kisses up your clothed stomach. His fingers slowed and he looked up at you. âShhâŠâ he whispered, lowering his head to your chest, kissing your exposed skin as you tried to regain control of yourself.
For a few moments you could barely breathe, light kisses upon your skin driving you wild. You could feel his cock pressed against your leg, and could tell it was straining against his pants.Â
âYou are so gorgeous,â Donghyuck spoke softly as he moved up your body. His lips pressed against yours, his fingers teasing your clit as he moved his hand away.
Your lips were breathing heavily against his, your hips bucked as you felt him tease your clit again. You began to breathe hard, hot breaths gusting between your lips and his. "I love youâ he repeated as his lips moved to your neck. He bit your neck, his lips sucking just hard enough to leave a mark.
You moaned softly as you moved your hands to his pants, fumbling with the button before pulling them and his underwear down so he could step out of them.
You felt his cock pressed against your skin, and you couldnât help but reach out for it. You could feel his shaft pulsating against your hand as you stroked it.
Donghyuck let out a small grunt, his hips bucking into your hand as you teased the head of his cock. âgoddamnâ he moaned as you pulled him closer.
âI want you inside me. You could feel his shaft twitch in your hand as you said the words, your fingers tightening around the shaft as you moved to stand in front of him.
You pulled your dress over your head, tossing it to the floor as you reached behind your back to unclasp your bra. The garment fell to the ground, your breasts exposed to Donghyuckâs hungry gaze.
Donghyuck reached up, taking your breasts in his hands. He gently laid you back on the bed, his hands moving from your breasts to your hips.Â
You waited with heavy breaths as he finished stripping down, your eyes eagerly scanning his chest and abdomen. Reaching for his cock again eager for him to be inside you.Â
Donghyuck quickly shifted his hips, slowly sliding his cock inside you. You let out a soft moan as he slowly filled you up. He began thrusting slowly, his thrusts growing stronger and deeper.
He moaned loudly as he thrusts inside you, letting you slowly push against him. His thrusts were desperate.
As he felt his climax coming he reached down to grab your hand, intertwining his fingers with yours. The connection between you intensified, your bodies moving in perfect sync. It was a dance of pleasure and desire, each movement bringing you closer to that sweet release.
As his thrusts became more urgent, his hips snapped against yours with a hunger that matched your own. The room filled with your moans and the rhythmic sound of skin slapping together. Time seemed to blur as the world around you vanished.
Your nails dug into his back, leaving red trails as he drove deeper into you. Waves of pleasure crashed over you, dragging you deeper into the abyss of ecstasy.
Donghyuck's breath grew ragged against your ear as he moved faster, chasing his climax with fervor. His grip on your hand tightened, his body trembling with anticipation.
You arched your back as you felt yourself approach climax, your hands gripping the sheets as you sought more friction. Donghyuckâs pace quickened, his cock sliding in and out of you as you felt your orgasm approach.
Your body tensed as you came closer and closer. You cried out, moaning his name as he kissed you. âDonghyuck!â
Donghyuckâs thrusts grew more and more erratic. He began to let out a series of moans as he continued to thrust. He groaned loudly, your walls tightening around his cock as he continued to thrust. You could feel his cock twitch as he came, his cum filling you up.
Donghyuckâs cock slid out of you as the two of you came down from your orgasm. You curled up against him, his arms wrapping around you as you kissed him.Â
âI love you too.â you whispered, kissing his lips softly. You rested your head against his chest, and for the first time in a long time, you fell asleep without any worries.
The morning sun peeked through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Donghyuck stirred, his eyes slowly fluttering open. He blinked sleepily and focused on the beautiful sight in front of him--your peaceful face, bathed in gentle morning light.
As he realized your arm was still snugly wrapped around him, a soft smile tugged at the corners of his lips. The night before had been filled with whispers, laughter, and tender kisses shared between you both. And in this quiet moment, as the world outside continued to awaken, Donghyuck felt an overwhelming sense of contentment.
Leaning in closer, he pressed a lingering kiss to your forehead. His touch was feather-light, melting away any lingering traces of sleep from your mind. You stirred slightly, a drowsy smile playing on your lips as you looked up at him.
"Mmm, good morning," you murmured, your voice filled with warmth and affection.
"Good morning," Donghyuck replied, his voice low and husky.
His fingers gently traced the contours of your face, his touch so tender it sent shivers down your spine. As you peered into his eyes, you could see the love that radiated from within him. It was in those moments when the world was still and quiet, that you truly understood the depth of his affections. Donghyuck was not one to wear his heart on his sleeve, but in these stolen moments, he bared his soul to you.

second best |2| hoshina soshiro
PART 1 | PART 2 | BONUS: PART THREE
pairing: hoshina soshiro x f!reader genre: slight angst, comfort, childhood friends to lovers, a bit of that miscommunication trope snippet: hoshina soshiro always ranks second at everything in his life. god forbid he falls behind in the bid for your heart too. word count: 2.5K trigger warnings: author's note: hello, reposting the part 2 because of hiccups from saturday when i posted it first (tumblr blocked my blog lol). likes, reblogs, and replies are always appreciated but please do not copy or steal my works. in celebration of this blog reaching 100 followers recently, i have written a bonus part 3 which will be posted within this week. my taglist form is here, and feel free to let me know your thoughts by sending me an ask through here. using my degree correctly by writing hoshina fanfics yes
you aren't sure when things changed between you and hoshina soshiro.
when you were young, you would have understood that he didn't have the attention span to deal with you. he wasn't exactly shy, but you wouldn't call him friendly too - unlike you, who has taken it upon herself to be friends with all the children in the small neighbourhood. unfortunately for you, only the hoshina brothers are at the same age as you are, and at that time you thought that was a sign that fate was giving - you ought to be close to them.
you won't deny that you were fonder of the hoshina brothers than anyone when you started school. if you are being honest, you like them more than any of your expensive dolls or toys. being an only child, you thought it was only natural to want someone to be with - to want someone to share things with.
the brothers would have their endless training sessions every day, and though you did not know how to swing a sword then, you insisted to your parents - and theirs - that you must join them. sometimes you would be sitting on the floor just watching them, and frequently you would be the one keeping count of the score between soshiro and soichiro when they spar.
soshiro has never won a single match against his brother when they were kids.
but you didn't mind. you still preferred him over soichiro.
in fifth grade, you bought him the biggest cake your meagre savings could buy. it wasn't much really, but you won't forget how wide his eyes went when you lighted the candles and sang him the happy birthday song albeit out of tune. the next year, you gifted him a small keychain - a teddy bear in a purple kimono. you never saw him use it.
it wasn't until years after that you worked out what your feelings for him were. the girls from your class would make small talk and ask if you have a boyfriend now and then. you would say no all the time. at sixteen, you felt like you didn't need to be in a relationship - because you have soshiro, you said to yourself - and that was when it hit you.
every time soshiro would talk to you after that, you would peek in your little compact mirror, worried he had miraculously discovered your secret, afraid that maybe your face had given it away. he caught you doing that once, and he accused you of attempting to be pretty for him.
"is it me ye're trying to be cute for?" he volunteered to carry your bag on your way home but you declined. you didn't want to start assuming things; you knew he was just being nice.
"ya wish," you deflected effectively.
"well, whoever it is for, they're in for some trouble", he commented, and you chose not to read too much in his words. you realized how the walk to your house always seemed to be shorter when you were with soshiro.
when you turned eighteen, you asked your mom what it meant to be in love. she was the last person you had wanted to ask - your parents had broken their perfect marriage not long ago, your father choosing to abandon your mother and you. soshiro taught you the basics of kendo during those hard months. "i'll even let ya beat me", he said to you.
"it's when you care for them so much that you will go as far as to let them go because you wanted them to be happy," your mother answered.
soshiro did not have the decency to say goodbye when he left himeji. you wanted to celebrate with him, and it wasn't like you weren't familiar with his plans to move after graduation. you used to stay up late with him, and inevitably the conversation would steer to his dream of getting out of your town. he would say that it's to expand his horizons - for his growth - but you like to give yourself some credit because you know him too well to simply believe that. you can tell that he needs a place to stretch his wings and be the best - somewhere he can be better than his brother.
and maybe you are really your mother's daughter - you let hoshina soshiro go because you thought it would make him happy.
"vice-captain, platoon leader said ye're needed at operations." you saluted and walked inside his office. "get yer ass in there, were the exact words actually," you added, intending it to be a joke.
soshiro didn't even look up from the file he had been staring at since you came in. he's been like this for days after you were sworn in the defense force. you would bump into him in the hallways of the training building or sit at the same table with him for lunch, and he wouldn't speak to you at all. if you didn't know better, you would think that finally, after all these years, he is now aware of your feelings. but that would be impossible, because not only the other recruits would not dare to rat you out, but also because soshiro would not be acting this way if he knew.
"v-vice captain?" you repeated.
soshiro hummed. "i heard ya the first time, officer," he said, his glance on you so cold you felt it from where you stood. it wiped off the smile you were wearing that morning.
"ya can go," he said once more after he noticed you didn't move. "or d'ya need anything else from me?"
"no, vice-captain." you were almost out of the door when you remembered something else. "one more thing, hoshina-san," you faced him again, the way you said his last name soft against your own lips. "soichiro-kun will be visiting again tomorrow so we can go to himeji together -"
"do ya belong to the sixth division?" soshiro cut you off. "i didn't know ya transferred."
"i - i'm not -" you were still trying to look for the appropriate response when he interrupted you again.
"then why are ya spending so much time with him? d'ya wanna move to his jurisdiction?" soshiro is standing now, whatever he was reading earlier long forgotten.
it was difficult to reconcile this distant man in front of you with the boy you used to chase after during your childhood days. the one who would bring you an extra boxed lunch because you told him before that his bento tastes so much better than yours. the boy you fell in love with. you had both grown up, and taken different paths at a time, yes, but you did not expect to struggle so badly to find common ground with him. "im sorry, vice-captain, i'll be off now." it felt like a huge chasm had opened in the middle of the room that determined to keep the two of you worlds apart. you turned to leave, and you heard him mutter something.
"if ya wanted to keep going on dates with my brother, ya shouldn't have gone here."
there is only one thing sharper than his katana and it is hoshina soshiro's mouth.
pain swirled inside you, threatening to spill over. when you couldnât keep the turmoil in any longer, you snapped.
"what is yer problem?!" your pitch reached a high octave that soshiro was shocked at the outburst. "did i do anything? cause yer being mean, soshiro," you pressed on, stepping closer to him. it didn't escape him how you dropped the title off his name, and the honorifics, too. he was about to respond, but you didn't give him the chance. "look, i know yer not on good terms with soichiro-kun, but heâs my friend."
"like i needed to be reminded." sarcasm coated his retort. "ya know what? ya can marry the guy and i won't even care. do whatever ya want", he said, dismissing you in a harsher tone
your forehead scrunched and your eyebrows met in confusion. "what are ya talkin' about? no one is getting married -"
soshiro's laugh was bitter. you recoiled at the offensive sound. "i'm not the one going around telling everyone she's in love with soichiro-kun.â
there was a loud ringing in your ears; you couldnât believe what you were hearing, and you were suddenly afraid that this conversation is unfolding into something else entirely. âi never said that,â you protested. âi never told anyone i was in love with him. i donât know where youâre getting this from.â
soshiroâs expression remained stoic and unreadable. âi heard you say it at the izakayaâ, he murmured.
breath was knocked out of your lungs and panic started to rise within you. âi never told anyone i was in love with himâ, you repeated. you tried to rewind every second of what happened in the party thrown for the new officers nearly a month ago. everyone was drinking and having a good time after the sworn-in ceremony. commander ashiro and the vice-captain had to leave ahead. your fellow newbies grilling you on your history with hoshina soshiro.
âsave it.â hurt was evident in soshiroâs voice; his eyes glimpsed at you briefly, and you saw an emotion you couldnât quite decipher flicker. soshiroâs expressionless mask faltered for a moment, revealing a glimpse of vulnerability. although you donât have a clue how he would have heard it when he went with commander ashiro that night, the desire to straighten things out overtook you.
for a split second, the burden of the truth hangs heavily on your tongue. you gave in to the desperation.
âi never told anyone i was in love with himâ, you reiterated, hoping he would understand this time. âbecause itâs you iâm in love with.â
there were multiple occasions in the past where you almost admitted what he meant to you; you had pictured a thousand scenarios in your head where you declared your love, but all of them did not include the part where soshiro would respond.
you thought confessing would ease the ache in your heart, but it was the opposite. "i didn't know how to tell ya, and that's my fault. but how could i? ya didn't even bother to say goodbye to me when ya left home." it was taking everything of you to hold your tears back, and ignoring the obvious tremble in your voice, you continued. "did ya know i taught myself how to pray after ya were gone? i thought it was the only thing i could do for ya."
"i didn't know", was all soshiro could say. he looks in distress, still grappling with your bold confession.
a loud knock on the door broke the tension. âvice-captain, they made me fetch you,â okonogi said from the hall.
âwell, now ya do.â you turned away just when soshiro strode towards your direction, running after you. you were faster than him, and despite the possibility that you would be seen coming from the vice-captainâs office crying, you twisted the doorknob and ran.
it is still hot when you sit down on a bench at the rooftop of the third division's training building. Â you welcomed the cool breeze, however, and you noted that at this altitude, everything from far away looks considerably smaller.
you missed two important briefings this afternoon already, and your team is most certainly searching frantically for you everywhere. you are definitely going to be scolded by your superior. yet you couldnât bring yourself to discard the little comfort being alone had given to you, especially after such an emotional confrontation. you sighed, exhaustion slowly crawling all over you. lost in your thoughts, you did not notice the soft footsteps approaching until a familiar voice tore through the silence. the cold breeze blew, making you shiver a bit.
âhey,â soshiro called out. you freaked out, immediately looking for a space to hide at. âi already saw ya,â he let you know.
he held out a keychain in front of your face, a tiny bear in a faded purple kimono with the string attached to its head dangling from his forefinger. you recognized it instantly - you got it for him when he turned 12 years old. he sat beside you, not concerning himself with asking for your permission.
âthe first few days were the hardestâ, he began, and you listened. âi was too used to seeing ya every day, but when we were apart, i convinced myself i would forget how ya look like. i didnât.â he offered the keychain to you and you took it - the bearâs fur worn out and old to your touch. âi hold that thing whenever i start to miss ya.â
shock was etched on your face and your gaze darted to him. âis it too late now to say that i love ya?â he whispered, his face mirroring the sincerity of his tone. sunlight bathed the rooftop as soshiroâs words hung in the air, leaving you breathless and stunned. you gasped. âmaybe i should have told ya sooner. but i have been in love with ya for a while now.â
you leaned into his shoulder, and you quietly cried.
âi donât think i have been anybodyâs first choice in anything, so it didnât enter my mind that ya would probably feel the same.â his hand found yours and you relished on the warmth.
âyour brother advised that i tell ya, ya know?â you said between sniffles.
he chuckled. âhe didnât do an excellent job at that, did he now?â
silence ensued; his thumb tracing patterns on the back of your hand, your head on his shoulder still - your breathing still a mess from everything that has been said. âiâm sorry i hurt ya. let me spend my whole life making it up to ya,â he proposed. the promise made your heart skip a beat.
for the first time in a long time, you gave him a smile - the one you have reserved just for him, the one you made sure to convey everything you wanted to tell him. there are a lot of other things you feel the need to ask him, but this will suffice for now. this is more than you ever had in your whole life.
âi canât believe we wasted so much time dancing around our feelings. that one time i wanted to hit one of our classmates because he was being pushy with ya, dâya remember that?â he reminisced. âanyone can have everything in the world, and the only time i would crack is if it is ya being taken away from me.â
all your dreams pale in comparison to your reality now.
out of the blue, you heard soshiro giggle. âdoes this mean ya were telling the newbies that night that it was me yeâre into?â he stared at you, and you canât help but see him as the little boy you grew up with. this is the man i love, you said to yourself. you squeezed his hand.
you didnât respond. all you know is the color of your cheeks surely rivals the pink of the skies as the both of you watch the sun sets.

I finished ISAT yesterday and I can't get it out of my head. I will spread it to as many friends as possible. Thank you so much for making it. How else can we support In Stars and Time after buying the game?
that is a lovely question to ask!!! um um um this applies to all indie games and all cool stuff you like btw <3
âšâšâš How To Support Something Cool After Having Bought The Something Cool âšâšâš
-if you bought the game on steam, leave a review on steam! Reviews tell the Steam Algorithm(tm) that the game is worthwhile and cool, and so the algorithm will be more likely to show off the game!!!
-if you bought it elsewhere uuuuh leave a review on metacritic i guess????
-word of mouth!!! tell your friends!
here's a tangent.
Word Of Mouth For Dummies (written by me, a professional Word Of Mouther) ok so if you wanna make your friends play the game. here is my advice. or at least thats how i do it. i made all my friends play disco elysium and. ive even made one. play. umineko (everyone gasps in amazement) 1. dont be too insistent about it. so, GO CRAZY AAAH GO STUPID AAAH only ONCE. and explain the game in thirty pages there if you want. ONCE. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE. 2. if you know them well and what they like, personalize the paragraph. you like timeloops? thats for you. you like old ladies? thats for you? you keep beating me at rock paper scissors? Do I Have The Game For You. 3. now that you've gone crazy aah stupid aah Once, you have successfully PLANTED THE SEED. like in inception. no need to go crazy stupid again for a while. i know it's hard. but you don't wanna go crazy stupid too much. control yourself. for the Thing. 4. from that point on though, when the game is on sale, just go "hey btw the cool game i told you about is on sale! smiles smiles smiles". 5. every six months go "i was just thinking about a cool game again." "what cool game?" "IN STARS AND TIME" and you can go crazy aaah go stupid aah again. 6. after Some Time (from 2 weeks to 5 years) they will play the game. yes i said 5 years. word of mouthing is a WAITING GAME. little sprouts grow into trees. 7. they play the game 8. ???? 9. profit <3
-word of mouth, 2!!!! SOCIAL MEDIA!!!! tweet about the game! reblog other people's posts! make fanart! make fanfic! write a long essay about which parts made you cry! cosplay as the characters! make a video essay! just yell!!!!! you know how you only got into That One Thing because someone made a post about it? you could be The Post.
-(this one is if you want more merch specifically) buy the merch if it's available! the only reason we have a second Loop wave with the Yetee is because the first wave sold so well ;w;
-ummm that's it really????? that's already a bunch!!! but yeah!!!!!!!!!! ty!!!!!!!!!!

The dim light in the room emitted a warm, orangish-yellow glow, enveloping the space as your fingers were scratching the corner of a table. The gentle hue seemed to intensify the temperature, wrapping you in a sultry embrace, and causing beads of sweat to form on your skin. As the light flickered softly, your heart thudded in your chest, the rhythm echoing in the stillness of the room.
You gulped, and your foot impatiently tapped the wooden floorboards and it immediately stopped once you heard his footsteps. Your gaze was fixated on the corner of the tableâ you didn't want to look up.
You wanted to ignore him, wanted to ignore that bile feeling in your stomach that made you nauseous. His boots stomped across the room, getting closer to you and your fingers intensified the scratching.
Jungkook dipped his head towards your neck, his warm breath gently brushing over your skin, as it sent a shiver down your spine. His hands were tangled in the locks of your hair, and he pulled it gently. He kissed the side of your neck and rested his chin on your head.
"Food's cold."
Your eyes darted to the plate of food he had given you not long ago, and you hadn't touched it since he left for some errands. Normally you would eat the meals he made for you but your mind was eating you up, the constant thought of him possibly knowing you tried to escape last night.
But how would he know? Even if you had slipped a pill into his meal, which knocked him out for about thirty minutes, how would you escape? When you opened the front door the chilly air that hit you caused you to blink several times.
You were free. You finally get to leave.
But as you took the first step outside, your eyes scanned the tall trees that decorated the entire area. Your heart sank. You couldn't get out of this place because you don't know how to.
Where would you go even if you had run deep into the woods? Would you even find a road? A path that could lead you to a sane person? You tried to reason with yourself as you looked back inside. This was your chance to get away from a monster like him, you could report him to the police and go back to your family and friends...
But what if he found you? What if you were lost, and by the time he woke up and figured out you were gone, what would he do? He'd go berserk, and he will find you. You don't know why but you're certain of it. You don't know the woods very well unlike him.
Jungkook knows his way around this deserted place, he's lived in this small cabin for years now, and he held you captive for months now. Of course, he would know, he prepared it just for you. What if you died while trying to escape? What ifâ
You closed the door as your back rested against it. You were so pathetic, so hopeless.
You stood up and walked up the creaky stairs, entering the bedroom where Jungkook was sleeping on. The effect of the pill even had such good timing that it hit him when he was getting ready for bed with you anyway.
Yet, you wasted it.
A scream was lodged in your throat, and your lips trembled. You hated to cry, but you couldn't help it. The warm tears trailed down your face as you crawled onto the bed.
Kill him.
Your own mind spoke to you, and your breaths shook as you heard your next words.
Go on. Wrap your hands around his neck, and kill him.
Decorate him like a bow on a present, and kiss his lips until you can't breathe anymore.
Your eyes widened when your hands were on his neck. They squeezed the fragile base, and you could feel his pulse. Slow and rhythmic, and it matched the quiet breaths he let out.
You inspected his face, and his hair fell on the top of his eyebrows, his eyelids were shut and his lips were parted open.
He was demented, a cruel person. You won't ever forget the things he did to you, how you felt so humiliated because of him. He took you away from your loved ones just so he could selfishly keep you and show his immense love curated just for you.
But you still couldn't do it.
You pulled your hands away quickly and Jungkook's fingers twitched. There wasn't much time left till he woke up. If you killed him, you would have won and lost at the same time.
You had no idea where you were, and there was no cell reception for you to call anyone. How would you prepare food, and fend for yourself? You don't even know a pathway that could help you to leave this damn forest. What would you do without him? But at least he would be gone.
You sighed and wiped your tears away, and you curled up next to him. You don't know why but your hands automatically reached out to play with his hair until you fell asleep. You don't know why but there was a part of you that didn't want to leave him.
You snapped back into reality once you felt Jungkook slither his arms down your shoulders as he murmured softly.
"Come to the bedroom with me, baby."
You didn't hesitate to follow behind him, and even if you didn't want to come he'd force you to anyway. Jungkook shut the door once you stepped inside the bedroom, and he took off his leather jacket before he put it back on again.
He sat on the edge of the bed and checked out the dress you wore for him. A white mini dress adorned with white laced straps, and the soft, flimsy part stopped on your thighs midway. The embodiment of the outfit hugged your structure beautifully like a doll, and Jungkook couldn't control his growing desire for you.
He patted his lap, and his words came out in a command.
"Sit."
You took a step forward, and Jungkook grabbed your waist, making you sit down on his lap. One arm was wrapped around your waist tightly, and his other hand gripped your chin. Your faces were inches away from each other as Jungkook stared at you intently.
"You wanna tell me something, beautiful?"
Dear god no..
You shook your head at him, watching his lips form into a frown.
"Don't lie to me sweetheart, you know I don't like lying."
His tone had turned serious, and your stomach churned uncomfortably. Jungkook shuffled his arm to get something from his pocket, and he retrieved the item, showing it to you.
"What were these doing under the bed, baby?"
He shook the container filled with sleeping pills, (blue and white) and your fingers dug into his shoulders firmly. Your eyes were filled with terror, and panic flooded in your veins.
Jungkook chuckled at your reaction, and he brought your chin closer to his face. You were forced to stare at him, to look into the eyes that frightened you almost every day, no matter how loving he tried to be.
They were crazed...a look you never wanted to see. His tongue peeked out from his lips, and it traced the silver piercing that was on the flesh of his lips.
"You really think you knocked me out last night?"
Your heart banged against your ribcage, and your breathing increased. He can't know, he can't, he can't, he can't-
"Did you think I wouldn't notice the little act of you wanting to cook for me all of a sudden? Huh?"
Jungkook squeezed your cheeks harshly, and his lips moved against your cheek.
"I wanted to play along. Give you that feeling of being triumphant over something ridiculous. You really are a fool, aren't you?"
Your eyes darted away from his, and your hands were off his shoulders. You yelped softly when you felt him push you even further into him, your chests touching each other as he made sure he held you more securely.
His hand flew to your neck, and he grabbed it roughly, and his nails dug into your skin.
"Eyes on me when I'm fucking talking to you. And don't even think about fighting back." Jungkook's eyes narrowed and darkened as he spoke right against your quivering lips.
Your heart was beating rapidly, and you felt suffocated as if the smoke from a wildfire was in the room. He found out...Jungkook found out.
"When you tried to choke me- honestly...I was surprised. But I knew you didn't have it in you. You wanna know why? It's because you're a fucking pussy, baby. You don't have the guts to kill someone."
A laugh vibrated wholeheartedly from his chest and you felt his cold hand drawing circles on your thigh. He put his lips towards your neck, taking a long inhale before he spoke again.
"You were such a good girl a couple of days ago, what happened to that good little girl who listened to me? Hm?"
You wanted to get out of his grip so bad. Your palms, slick with fear adhered to his shirt like trembling moths ensnared in the silky strands of a spider's web. Your delicate touch betrayed the intensity of your uneasiness with each shuddering breath you took.
Jungkook pulled away from you, a sudden thought coming to his mind. He stops drawing circles on your thighs, and he tilts his head slightly.
"I'm going to give you a chance to run away, okay?"
No.
"Gonna count till...thirty, and you're going to run into those woods as fast as you can."
Stop.
"If I find you..." his hands slide up on the side of your body, arms encircling around your back, "I'm gonna shove these down your pretty little throat, got it?"
Jungkook motioned to the sleeping pill container, sending a wave of goosebumps flying over you, and the hairs on your neck stood as you took a solid gulp. He leaned in, pressing his lips against yours before he pulled away. His arms loosened around your back, brushing your hair away from your face. He lowered his forehead against yours, murmuring softly.
"One."
"Two."
"Three."
For a moment, you were in a daze, lost in his eyes, captured in them. You didn't want to leave since he was probably messing around with you. You couldn't help but continue to stare at his doe eyes as your reflection glowed inside those dark eyes.
How were you so lost in them? Lost in the eyes of a man who kidnapped you, claiming he loved you. You were lost in your life, alone with no proper companion. Your life was already ruined, and you ached to be loved by someone. That's why he took you because he had a reason, and you didn't have a reason to deny it. You needed someone, and Jungkook claimed that he was the one.
He's observed you before, and you caught his eyes like a hawk once you bumped into him on your way to work. That's why he was able to snatch you on a cold Winter night, and he caught you, his prey, so easily. Why? You were lost, just lost in reality, lost in your depressive thoughts, and lost in love. You were just a poor girl lost in her delusions and wondering if your life would have been different if you had chosen the right decisions. You didn't notice him walking behind you, advancing on you before you could even utter a single scream.
It was an impulse and before you knew it your lips attached to Jungkook's moving ones. You grabbed onto his shirt, kissing him with soft movements.
Kissing him till you couldn't breathe anymore.
His hand was tangled in your hair and he pulled you closer, tilting your head to deepen the kiss. It was like Jungkook got the message, you wanted some hope, false hope to be exact. His tongue prodded at your lips before it slipped inside, and your body was growing hot as you both made out.
You almost let out a whine when he sucked and nipped on your bottom lip before he pulled away. You watched the way his chest rose and fell before a breathy laugh escaped his lips. His eyes scanned your face, and Jungkook grinned. He brought his hand to your face, wiping fresh tears off your face.
You were crying? Of course, just lost again but lost with him in an intimate moment.
He cupped your face, and his head beckoned to the door.
"Still haven't finished yet, baby, I'm close to twenty, you sure you don't wanna run now?"
You let out a quiet sniffle, getting off of him and once you left the room you sprinted down the stairs. You didn't bother to put your shoes on as you ran into the woods, your white socks already muddied. You ran and ran, and this time you noticed yourself crying. Why has your life turned into this? Why did you kiss him?
Your body shook with each step you took and each shuddering breath made you want to give up. It was completely dark, and the tall trees engulfed the entire area. There was barely any light, how were you even going to get away from him? The wind blew harshly over your face as you slowed down, stopping at a trail that seemed endless.
You wanted to laugh, but why did you even attempt to escape yesterday? Why did you even think about escaping in the first place? You know what happens, Jungkook has taught you several times but you just don't stop. Your life was shitty, your family disowned you because you were a disappointment to them. Your friends were toxic and fake, and you were alone. And you hated that.
Is that why you kissed him?
You kissed him because he was the only person who knew what your life was like, you kissed him because you were scared or maybe you kissed him because you were lost in the emotions you felt about him, and about yourself. There were moments when you were sad, and the next when you felt angry, rebellious, hopeless, irritated and lost.
Just run.
Just fucking run and stop thinking.
You're getting lost in your thoughts again, and he was going to catch you if you didn't stop now.
So you ran, and your heart was throbbing in your ears. Twigs snapped, birds cawed and for a second you thought you heard Jungkook.
You could hear another set of footsteps behind you, and the realisation dawned upon you. He's right behind you. You forced yourself to run even faster, ignoring the cuts that were plastered on your skin. You were running out of breath and your legs wobbled, they began to ache. You can't give up when you've come this far.
You can hear him getting closer to you. When you looked up straight ahead, there was a faint light that glowed uphill. A light! It could be a car, a home, or somebody. You bit your lip as you tried to go uphill, the pain in your feet grew as you stepped on sharp twigs and debris, desperately trying to climb up. You squinted your eyes to see a road, and your hope grew instantly.
You could leave, you could find someone and call for help, you could finally get away from himâ
Jungkook's arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you back against his chest. A scream erupted from your throat, and you thrashed in his hold.
Noâ you were right there, you were about to escape.
A sob broke from your lips as you kicked your legs, doing anything to get out of his hold. His lips brushed over the shell of your ear, his hold on you tightening.
"Shh," his voice didn't soothe whatever you felt right now, "if you fight me back, I swear I'll make it worse for you."
The threat hung in the air, and it immediately made you stop your movements. Jungkook pushed you down to the forest floor, the wet soil coated your white dress, and this time the scratches stung even more.
"I was going to take you back, but look how far you made it. Almost made it out of here." A smirk formed on his lips as he took out the sleeping pill container.
"How does three sound?"
His words were a blur to your ears as you stared into the far distance. The light was still glowing brightly and soon a car drove by. You sobbed and your nails dug into the ground. Just a bit more time and you would've been free.
You felt the back of your head yanked up, and Jungkook's hand tugged your hair as you glared at him with furious eyes.
Jungkook whistled, smiling as he popped open the container.
"Don't look at me like that, you should have left the moment I started to count."
Your eyes fell to the water bottle next to him and that's when it hit you. Jungkook giggled at your reaction as he unscrewed the lid on the bottle.
"Came prepared because I knew my girl would get lost in these woods pretty fast, and far."
One hand gripped your jaw, and Jungkook pushed the pills inside your mouth. And he gave the bottle to you.
He wanted you to do it because he knew that you knew you lost. Your hands squeezed the bottle, and you brought it to your lips before chugging a good amount to swallow the pills.
"Did you say three?"
You asked him with a hopeless look.
"I lied," he said, watching you with a gleam on his face, "and gave you two instead because I don't want to kill you."
You wanted to laugh at that, maybe you should have just taken three. The effects soon hit you, and your eyes became sluggish, and your eyes blurred with tears. You lost your grip on the floor, and Jungkook swooped you into his arms effortlessly. His face was blurred as he was taking you back to the cabin. Just before your body shut down, right before your tears escaped and your eyes closed, Jungkook murmured to himself quietly, and a mixed feeling of hope and happiness washed over him.
"You're lost again, baby."

I wish everyone collectively understood aventurineâs character like youâŠthings would be so much easier! I genuinely donât understand how people keep getting his motivations wrong??? Could it be because some of the most popular Aven fanfics were written prior to his release? That could have contributed to some of the takes we tend to see about himâŠthoughts?
I struggled all day to come up with a concise way to answer this and couldn't think of one, so here, have a long-winded ramble:
I don't think early fic writers have much impact in the situation with Aventurine's character now, since most people can look at when a story was posted and go "Oh, this was before we had ____ information."
I think that Aventurine's problem is being a male character in a gacha game. Gacha game characters are designed to sell. Hoyo can sell female characters very, very easily. Give her huge tits and a visible underwear strap and you're good to go. I love all my guy friends, but I'm not gonna sugarcoat it: straight men are not the hardest audience to please. Hit a particular fetish (feet, spandex, dommy mommy), and you're gucci.
Nah, we all know why Jade's trailer is Like That.âą
Male characters in gacha are harder to sell because women as consumers are a little harder to predict. Does every woman want a tall, ripped hunk? Shit, no, small cute boyish models like Aventurine are selling better now? Why?! Would a bad boy be more popular than a nice guy??? It's harder to account for women's tastes, especially because they are often (a little) less visually-oriented.
Hoyo is good at what they do though, and they've figured out that male characters sell very well when they possess at least one of two specific traits:
Endearing vulnerability/helplessness
Gay ship tease
Give a character both, like Aventurine? They might as well be printing money.
That sound you hear is Hoyo's stock prices rising.
So, from the very beginning, Hoyo is incentivized to create a character that appeals to people, a character people will want to crack their wallets open for. And they achieved this, first and foremost, by giving Aventurine traits that female players (in particular, but men too), find especially appealing: emotional and physical vulnerability.
We see Aventurine's pain. We sympathize with his grief. We identify with his struggle to make meaning of his difficult life. He's our woobie, blorbo, babygirl, whatever the hell they're calling it now.
He can't hide his suffering anymore. He's on the very edge. He's a dude in distress. He's surrounded by enemies! He misses his mama! He's been betrayed! No one understands him like you do, dear player!
The ultimate feeling evoked is: He needs to be saved.
When people talk about male power fantasies, I think they forget that women can experience them too, and "Emotionally vulnerable man that only I (or my favorite character) can fix" is actually a female power fantasy.
And from there it's really easy, right: the people who shell out cash to buy warps for their harmed-husbando feel like they've saved him; the people who are into mlm ships look for the nearest hot dude to be the savior Ratio was waiting for his time lol.
Morally and intellectually, this type of deep-down-golden-hearted, emotionally-wounded male character is very easy to digest. There is nothing to dislike about this type of character or role in the story: this character is a good guy who has just gone through so many terrible situations, whose victim status makes him endearing, and whose lack of agency means that any of the questionable or downright bad things he does are always the result of someone else forcing his hand, and never something he would have chosen himself.
His motivations are always clear and consistent: get free, heal, and live happily ever after.
Insert the Wreck-It Ralph meme: "Do people assume all your problems got solved when a big strong man showed up?" But to be fair, a big strong man did kind of solve Aventurine's problem, so--
Anyway, it's simple. It's straightforward. Morally, it's pretty cut and dry, black and white: Aventurine is our hero, which means everyone dictating the course of his miserable life is evil.
Hoyo is not remotely discouraging people from literally buying into this emotional appeal.
And trust me, I get it. I'll be the first to admit that hurt-comfort is its own entire genre in fandom because it is so appealing. People eat up Aventurine's tragic backstory like candy! The idea of watching a character go through hell at the hands of bad guys just to finally find a happy end is like the definition of everyone's favorite story.
In fact... people love Aventurine's suffering so much, they have invented whole new ways for him to suffer that aren't even in the game.
This is where we get all the headcanons that Aventurine was a sex slave, every single person he meets hates him because of his race, the Stonehearts are executioners holding knives to his throat, Jade enslaved him to the IPC with a lifelong contract, his material possessions belong to the company, the IPC is forcing him to take only the most dangerous missions where he is being required by his evil jailers to continually put his life on the line... You name it and I promise you, I can find a fanfic where Aventurine suffers from it. đ
Bro can't even sleep in on his day off; life is so hard for this man.
Being serious: if the game is telling us that Aventurine is a victim... Why not make him the perfect victim?
Why not envision an Aventurine with no freedom, who bears no responsibility for any of the horrible situations he is in or any of the dubious things he does?
It's so natural to like that version of Aventurine, so appealing to see a totally powerless underdog use his own wits and charms to claw his way up to freedom. Or, if you're the kind who really relishes angst: It's even appealing to see Aventurine lose more. To delight in fics where he loses his wealth, where the IPC punishes him for past crimes while he's powerless to stop them... (I assure you, this is many people's cup of tea and the fanfics prove it!)
Ultimately, there's nothing wrong with liking characters who are exactly this straightforward! It's completely fine to embrace characters that are intentionally written to be morally above-board, whose primary role in the story is to generate angst by being a good person who suffers, or those characters who never show unlikable traits, bad decisions, or contradictory actions.
The problem is that that's just not who the game is telling us Aventurine is.
Hoyo may be capitalizing off people who love to envision poor Aventurine still living his life as a slave... But the game also needs to tell a complicated enough story overall to appeal to people who don't care about this specific husbando--Aventurine's role in the actual game's plot has to be interesting enough for almost everyone to appreciate it, not just Aventurine's simp squad. (Don't get mad, I'm in the simp squad with you.)
So his character doesn't stop at just being a pure-hearted victim who is still waiting to be saved.
Aventurine is not that easy to label, and I think the biggest struggle in this character's fandom right now is between people who prefer the even-more-angsty, still-a-slave Aventurine versus people who want a morally grey, self-destructive character instead.
To me personally, while I greatly understand the appeal of fanon!Aventurine and the joy of a really juicy angst fic where characters lose it all, I think that missing out on the depth that canon is suggesting would be a real loss on the fandom's part.
The character motivations that Aventurine shows in the game are complicated. They cancel each other out. They're basically self-harm! He makes almost every situation he's in worse for himself--on purpose.
He is a good person, but also a person who has done unspeakable things. He does have morals, but he's not above allowing those who don't have them to use him to their advantage.
He's both the victim and the victor. He's his own worst enemy. He's a lost little boy who's been making terrible decisions for himself since he was like eight years old, and a grown ass man who is barely managing to fake his way through an existence that destiny is not letting him quit.
This kind of character is a lot harder to embrace. He's done things that most people would find appalling--like willingly joining up with the organization that let his entire race be massacred. He's invented a whole new peacock persona to frivolously flaunt riches he doesn't even care about (Poison Dart Frog Self-Defense 101). He actively plays into racist stereotypes about his people to manipulate others through their preconceived expectations. He's made a mockery of his mother's and sister's hopes and dreams by endlessly trying to throw his own life away.
He has flaws! He bet everything he had on a ploy without doing his homework to find out if the people he was risking his life for were even still around. (Maybe he already knew, and couldn't bear to admit it, even to himself.) He's intentionally off-putting and obnoxious to everyone he meets (Poison Dart Frog Self-Defense 102). He terrifies everyone who gets close to him by (seemingly) carelessly throwing himself into the jaws of death without the slightest provocation.
He knowingly allows the IPC to exploit his power and talents for profit. Did everyone forget that his role in the Strategic Investment Department is asset liquidation?! Like, his actual day-to-day job is ruining people's lives. Canonically, Aventurine kills people when his deals go bad.
His motivations change off-screen in two lines of story text. We're told in one line that his biggest reason for joining the IPC was to make money to save the Avgin, then in the next line we find out that's impossible. And... then what? What motivations does he even have now? The whole point of his character arc from 2.0-2.1 is that he was on the edge of giving in to utter despair and nihilism because he couldn't even perceive a single reason to stay alive. He has no purpose in life before Penacony, and that didn't start with the Stonehearts at all??
People keep saying Aventurine was held in the IPC by golden handcuffs, but how do you tie down someone for whom profit is meaningless? What can you offer to a man whose only desire is to bring back something already lost forever? How do you imprison someone whose only definition of freedom is, canonically, death?
Working for the Stonehearts is obviously not healthy. But that's why Aventurine was doing it--because taking dangerous missions allowed him to put himself at risk. The job that he originally pursued hoping to save his people became a direct means to self-harm, and the IPC's only real role in that was just happily profiting off the results.
The journal entries for Aventurine's quests are there deliberately to tell the player what is on his mind, and none of it has to do with escaping from his job:
Like... Work is the least of this man's problems.
At really the risk of rambling on too long now, he's also just a massive walking contradiction:
Aventurine is among the most explicitly religious characters in the game, yet he's one of the only people in the entire game that we have ever seen actively question his people's aeon.
You might be tempted to think Aventurine's risky gambles with his life as an adult are a result of giving up after finding out about the Avgin massacre... Butttt no, Hoyo makes sure to tell us that even at knee-high in the Sigonian desert, Kakavasha was already willing to risk himself in a fight to the death against monsters because even back then he found his own life to have less value than a single memento.
He's the "chosen one" who will lead his people to prosperity... except they're all dead.
He's explicitly suicidal... andddd also a pathstrider of Preservation.
He wants to die... He doesn't want to die. He wants to make it end, yet goes to staggering lengths to continually survive. (Every plan risks his life on purpose--but every plan's win condition is also to live.) He life is the chip tossed down, but his hand is trembling beneath the table. When faced with an otherwise unsurvivable situation, Aventurine literally became a winner of the Hunger Games. He beat other innocent people to death with his own chain-bound hands just to come out alive.
He knows the IPC failed the Avgin and left them to die... and he still willingly sought out a position of power in their organization. Maybe he really is after revenge... but maybe not.
He starts his journey in the IPC with a truly noble goal in mind: to help his people using his newfound wealth and power. He's a good guy who did genuinely want to save the Avgin and repay all those who helped him. But once it became clear he was too late, once it was obvious he would have no use at all for that monetary wealth and power he risked his life to get... What did he do with it? Unlike Jade, we don't see him over here donating to orphanages. (I'm not that heartless; I'm sure he does actually do a lot of good things with his money on the side, but the point is that the game does not show us that--it shows us, over and over again, Aventurine putting on a wasteful, over-indulgent persona toward wealth. We've supposed to feel how meaningless money is to him, how meaningless everything is becoming to him.)
He outright refuses to use underhanded tactics or to cheat at gambles, which is meant to show us that's he's more morally upright than his coworkers. There's an entire exchange where he says that he'll never stoop to using manipulation the way Opal does. But... he doesn't have any issue fulfilling Opal's exact agenda. He was never remotely morally conflicted about denying the Penaconians their freedom by dragging Penacony back under IPC control.
He's willing to risk his own life, which is one thing--but he's also willing to risk other people's well-being. Topaz accuses him of constantly egging their clients on into dangerous situations; we've actively seen him shove a gun into Ratio's hands and pull the trigger with no care for how Ratio would feel about that on their very first meeting... Dragging the Astral Express crew into the entire Penacony plan in the first place was exceedingly dangerous...
To me, I just think it's vital to understand his character through the lens of these contradictions because they demonstrate the extreme polarity of Aventurine's life: from rags to riches, from powerless to empowered by multiple aeons, from willing to kill to survive to killing himself... He has quite literally lived a life of "all or nothing," and while he is the victim of many terrible situations out of his control, his arc as a character involves facing the truth of himself and the future his own actions are hurtling him toward.
Frankly, the Aventurine that canon is suggesting is a little annoying. You want to grab him by the shoulders, shake him, and say "Why are you like this?!" And he won't even have an answer for you, because he doesn't even know why he's still alive.
In the end, to me, this is so, so much more interesting. I can read an endless supply of hurt-comfort fics where Aventurine escapes the evil IPC and Ratio is there to fill the void in his life with the power of love and catcakes and be a perfectly happy clam online, but I want canon to continue to serve us this incredible mess of a man who constantly takes one step forward and two steps back.
Who is fully aware of his role as a cog in the grotesque profit-wheel of cosmic capitalism and still manages to say he never changed from the rags-wearing desert rat of the Sigonian wastes.
Who over and over again flirts with nihility but, ultimately, even if he has to wrest it from the grip of the gods themselves with bloody, chain-bound hands, chooses life.

What do the dorm leaders + a few more students do when you leave them without saying goodbye / you go missing? (Series)
-----------------
Genre: Fluff/ Angst Pairing: Riddle x Gn Reader
A/n: I wanted to get this idea out of my system, maybe I should have written this into a full fanfic, but what do you think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments (If you want to). This was supposed to be all the dorm leaders, but Riddleâs got too long so Iâm going to separate them into series, most likely every character in Twisted Wonderland once I get ideas, some of them would link to each other's one-shots If I got enough smarty juice for it, but first letâs go for our boy Riddle, I hope you like it! Again, I'll make this into a series I hope you stay tuned!
Credits: The design was made by me in Canva and the art that was used is all from the Official Twisted Wonderland Cards. NOT BETA READ! Masterlist Part two: Leona x Gn reader -----------------
Sypnosis: You went off already, actually, they didnât even know where you were right now, Grimm was worried about you, where have you gone? You just vanished into the mirror that you were talking to every midnight, he knew that he should have listened to his gut feeling when he realized that you were warning him about your sudden disappearance. The moment he went dashing out of Ramshackle, paws cold from the snow that he stepped on and it was really bad that when he needed Hornton he wasnât there.Â
Heartslabyul:
Riddle: He was the first to respond, he was a light sleeper due to his motherâs sudden outbursts in the middle of the night sometimes, so when he heard Grimâs cries from outside, he went to investigate immediately, especially since he saw that you werenât with the little cat.
âRiddle!â Grim cried out, clinging to Riddleâs shirt âTheyâre gone!â He looked confused before grabbing Grim under his shoulders and lifting him a bit âWhat? Where did you last see them?â he questioned, Grim who looked miserable and seemed shaken as well âI donât know they-!â he sobbed out âThe moment I woke up, there was a gush of wind and the mirror shaking, and they were gone!â
Riddle inhaled and sighed deeply, trying to remain composed âWould you like to rest here for now? I donât want to wake the others up, we can look for them tomorrowâ he went to open the door much wider now, while his thoughts were focused on you, he didnât want to try to find you when itâs so dark out but at the same time, he wanted to throw away his rationality and go search the campus from up to down; you were always good to him, you saved him when he almost died, youâre basically a good friend to him; however, it was too dark outside, finding you would just be useless; but Grim seemed to think otherwise, he let out a loud whine which made Riddle wince at the noise. âRiddle! Please!â he begged, clinging again to the guyâs leg âI canât leave Prefect alone!â
âAlright, alright,â Riddle said, sighing âHave you really checked everywhere?â He asked, and thatâs where they started to plan out how to find you, he went to wake up the others, Trey, Cater, Ace, and Deuce to help with the search, of course, all four students agreed to help despite being late.Â
Although theyâve been out for hours, there was nothing, no trace of your presence anywhere, where the hell did you go? Riddleâs eyebrows were basically knitted tight together for hours now, he canât sense you, why? Where are you?Â
The moment that the sun rose, not one idea or clue did the housewarden get from any deep search about you, and it left him frustrated. He decided since it was morning, Crowley might have any leads.Â
And thatâs where the matter was off of his hands⊠somehow, he still got updates, and he made his own investigations to try to find you, at least any leads; but nothing, even if he did get any leads it got him into a dead end.Â
Days passed, weeks passed to the point it went into years passing, you still werenât around, Grim was under his supervision, he basically got half custody with all the housewardens, especially when Grim seemed to not want to do anything else, other than get upset and lash out, he knew that feeling all too well when everything feels like itâs suffocating him.Â
While he did pass everything in his academics, and now heâs graduating, he didnât think that the impact of your presence before would make so much difference to him right now, he struggled and almost failed some of his subjects due to the lack of sleep and his mental health deteriorating.Â
And throughout all of those, he realized that he actually loved you, isnât that funny? He never thought that his affection for you would be anything more than just being acquaintances with you, the lingering stares he gave and the little adjustments he made of your uniform cause you werenât wearing your tie properly, the way you never made him feel like an outsider, and everything else. The moments you and he were alone, he never made a move to get to know you better, he was the only one being asked questions about his family, his stories, and his future. He knew that saying he loved you was stupid, especially when he didnât make any more effort in understanding you and knowing your story.Â
The moment Riddle was wearing his Toga, something he was aiming for years, to become the valedictorian of his whole batch, he knew he should feel elated, his mother giving those business smiles he always see, Cater and Trey being there with him, graduating with him; Ace and Deuce watching their Housewarden graduate too. He was supposed to be happy; he was supposed to be-
ButâŠ
Where are you? Why arenât you here with him?Â
Riddle felt tears strolling down his cheeks when he was delivering his speech, an encouragement that he was supposed to give, yet here he was, tears strolling down his pristine face, in front of everyone, in front of his mother who looked shocked and pissed at him suddenly for showing such a shameful façade.Â
âRiddle!â His mother shouted, almost wanting to stand up from her seat, but Trey stopped her, grabbing her shoulder and shaking his head. âThere was one person that changed a lot of the student's perspective in magic⊠and how much they changed me as well.â
After that, Riddle stood in the bathroom, looking down the sink, face wet, he was crazy, telling everyone how Prefect, a missing student for years changed his life, and how he basically confessed how much he loved you, is he crazy? Maybe he went insane, now thinking about it, maybe all those searching for hours and sacrificing his sleep for you might be the reason.Â
But even so, his heart yearned to see your face again, he missed you so much and he knew that he wasnât the only one.Â
He lifted his head, staring into the mirror, his eyes were puffy from crying, he looked pathetic, and he wanted to laugh about it.
Suddenly, the mirror started to wobbleâŠ? Was he hallucinating or does he see your face?Â
ââŠiddle?â an echo of a voice all too familiar rang in his ears, his eyes widened as the wobbling of the mirror started to go harder, âRiddle⊠awayâŠÂ get away⊠the mirrorâ while he understood what âyou,â said, he still didnât budge, and thatâs where the mirror spat you out, making him catch you.
His arms wrapped around your waist, he was shocked when he looked at you, you looked⊠the same? You looked a bit older, more gorgeous for sure.Â
âRiddle!â you chirped, wrapping your arms around him, âYouâve changed so much!â he grew a bit, you were the same height now, but the other seemed to be surprised, his grip on your waist never leaving as he stared at you, âRiddle?â you asked, a bit worried.
Â
â⊠Prefect?â he placed his hand on your cheek, rubbing it fondly with his thumb âIs that really you?âÂ
He wanted to kiss you, you stupid idiot, why did you vanish for years and come back looking prettier than you used to?
So, he did. He kissed you deeply, all the yearning and pain he felt for years, he put it in the kiss he gave you.
Welcome back, Prefect.Â

Last question, I swear lol Will Casey Jones have an abusive family in this version or a dark past with a criminal past that she wants to leave behind? (I really loved that part of the TMNT IDW comics where they basically adopt Casey<3) And will her relationship with the turtles be a "friends at first sight" or will you make it a relationship where they start as enemies or rivals that evolves to friend to family? P.S.: You might have noticed by now that I love romance, fanfic, and the "enemy to lovers" and/or "found family" tropes (And mixes of them or platonic versions of just friendship) XDXDXD
lol youâre all good đ€Ł
Uh, not sure if perhaps that was a mistake, but Casey Jones is a guy in my version. Hereâs a picture of him and April:
Heâs got long hair, but heâs a dude lol đ
But anyway, BACK TO YOUR ACTUAL QUESTION!
Caseyâs family is broken, but I wouldnât say itâs abusive really, his mom is actually quite nice and he had a really tight bond with his dad.
He does have a pretty dark past that will be revealed slowly over the course of the comic and is the reason he is the way he is. It takes him a long time to let go of his past and anger, and at first he really actually doesnât want to, but one of the main themes/messages of the comic is going to be âforgiveness is the only way to be truly healedâ so when the time comes, he does overcome itâŠmostly.
(Btw, I actually have his past written down, so if you want to know it, you can DM me for it)
Casey and Raph are pretty quick friends, though it takes a bit longer for the rest of Raphâs family to warm up to Casey. Eventually he becomes almost like one of their brothers. (I would say their uncle, but letâs face it Casey isnât mature enough for that title đ)
Lol, there wonât be a ton of âEnemies to loversâ but there will be plenty of found family in this story!
Good questions! :]
