ESCAPE FROM GONGMEN TOWER please watch it right now please please it's such an underrated scene musically and visually. this is the scene where tigress catches a flaming arrow and that's the exact moment i became a homosexual. vic history. it's also the scene where we see her chops as a leader of the five and the way she's fit into this role to balance out Po so well. and also all her potential as who she could've been, if she'd been chosen to be the dragon warrior herself. but she's not.

MUSICIAN'S VILLAGE I LOVE this scene the way it introduces, to the audience, that the score is going to play a part in the fight scenes of this movie is absolutely magnificent. and the way we get reintroduced to the furious five's + po's fighting style, and it reminds us immediately that they are formidable--and then sets up the inciting incident of the plot with so much mystery (and we see the 2d animation style again too, which has always represented po's inner subconscious. WHY DIDN'T THEY DO THAT FOR THE FOURTH MOVIE. whatever)

i would say the bridge fight (kfp1) and i adore that scene but i have to say, i really love the performances, the ambience, the color boards, the sound effects, and the emotional impact of shifu and tai lung's fight in the 3rd act more. i love when kfp actually invested time in its non-main protag characters. tai lung was an absolutely fascinating villain and this scene just rounds out his character so well

The entirety of the secrets of the scroll short film oh my god i love that one so much. teenage tigress. my baby girl.

FUCK okay and then the fireworks factory (2nd movie) where Po confronts Shen about his past. And he gets shot with a cannon and Tigress doesn't get to him in time. breaks my heart every time. i'm going to include the scene where Tigress and Po fight right before that in the jail too bc the musical score called "Fireworks Factory" starts with THEIR HUG. AND IT ENDS WITH HER RUNNING TO CATCH HIM. AND FAILING. MY BAKA LIFE !!!!! i don't even ship them anymore like i did when i was 14 i mostly just love tigress but their platonic relationship is v important to me. i have to include their hug bc that did irreparable damage to me as a tween. sorry the quality of the first vid is so ass. their relationship in the entire 2nd movie is so good i could write a whole analysis on it probably. it's paining me physically to not include their earlier boat scene talk.

this is also the scene where tigress snarls at the gorilla and that changed my brain chemistry forever.

i love the entire second movie this is so hard for me AUGHHHGHGH okay quick honorary mention: i also love the scene where we see shen fight the three masters (rhino, croc, ox). that quick fight scene is SO well executed. the dialogue and the performances are incredible. i used to have every line of dialogue of this movie memorized and especially loved reciting this scene (skip to 1:10)

and then if i had to pick a moment from the third one it's the one where oogway's statue gets wrecked at the jade palace. it lands emotionally very well for a scene that could have easily been mishandled too comedically or too quickly. like it still gives me chills. and i'm not even gonna touch on the character animation/acting of tigress and shifu here bc GOD. kai's theme does rock also!!! AND i LOVE the colors in this movie SO MUCH holy fuck

and then a minor detail from the first one is i love how the characters act with each other, namely the five and shifu. they clearly have a history and/or comradery with each other. shifu undoing the nerve damage tai lung did in a way specific to each of his students stands out to me in particular.

1 and 2 are masterpieces to me and i have my Things about the 3rd one but overall, a beautiful trilogy. i wish the 4th one didn't exist im killing it with my bare hands. vic hate movie? vic murder it. 5th rule of the streets.

since it’s implied in indulgence that johnny has other victims scattered between the 4 main ones, what would some of the other circumstances be that he just hasn’t gotten caught for yet 🫣

the first thing i thought about was his first victims! in 1998, he had 11 victims including martina mortes. this is his highest kill count in a single year because his first kills were one-offs and he was still learning what he liked and perfecting his M.O.

this also makes them the most interesting, at least to me, because this was before he settled into routine and he was a youngin and all the things yadayadayada.

for the most part those kills looked like this: he found a girl on a night out, wooed and charmed her for a couple of hours, convinced her to go alone with him for obvious reasons, and then boom the poor thing had fallen into his trap. they were dead that same night. i’m certain it didn’t take long for him to get the grand idea to incorporate sex into the kills Lol like by the 2nd/3rd victim he was probably choking them out mid-intercourse vs just straight up strangling them and being done

his victims also age with him like they’re not super young unless he’s super young. for the most part. i imagine indulgence!mc was quite a bit younger than him and although she’s not necessarily a victim he was definitely into her 😭 otherwise she wouldn’t have gotten half that info out of him. maybe late twenties. dylidl!mc was also a decade younger but this one isn’t so bad to me considering shes like early 30s and hes 43.

i said all of that to time skip to his marriage with christine… we’re not going to talk about her lol we’re just going to talk about one of the victims he had during the 3 years that they were married. now at this time he was like 30-33 himself and his victim pool would have been around the same age so he would’ve probably gone for some lady with a REAL job that was also stressed out from it… so like dylidl!mc he was probably just casually blowing her back out until he was like okay time to hide you in my basement for 3 months… which he didnt get to do with her the professor and we all know why. this is funny bc he did all that and his wife just never knew what was happening underneath her house 😭😭😭😭😭

My 2nd fav female character: MEZATO. I'm a mezato guy until I die, I adore her to death. Wdym this girl basically wriggled her way into a position of leadership in a cult just because she was bored? She's so smart AND she gets herself into really dangerous positions all the time because she either doesn't think or is so passionate about what she's doing (in the moment) that it doesn't matter to her (thinking specifically about when she tries investigating LOL and doesn't realize the position she's in and how dangerous it could be until they're right about to force the hood over her head.) She means a lot to me and she's awesome and I'm so upset we don't get more of her. 3rd is Tsubomi

My 2nd favorite male character: Uhhh I might as well just say Serizawa and my reason bc I guess it's not THAT tmi. He's not actually my 2nd favorite, he's my other favorite, but I didn't talk about him before. His whole entire character growth and arc of finally being able to come out of his room, go straight into being with people who did not care about him and just wanted to use him, but eventually being able to move on and join society again and learn to manage his anxiety and be more confident and just LIVE is so important to me on a level that I genuinely cannot explain to you. The message that it is NEVER too late to start and live your life and become a real, productive member of society despite everything has meant everything to me since his first appearance. I wish I could like grip him by the shoulders and give him the most sincere, emotional Thank You I've ever given anyone. Also ocd serizawa is real to me and nobody gets it like I do. 2nd character I just can't sympathize with: so I can Understand why he did it, and I do feel bad everything that happened to him before he trapped mob in the torture maze, but after it. I can't sympathize with Mogami Afterwards. He got his ass exactly where he ended up. ALSO HE COULDA LEFT AT ANY TIME COULDNT HE?

2nd character I grew to love: Not LOVE per se, but not hate. I learned to not hate minori MONTHS after I watched the mogami arc for the first time, and I know why but also like. She is a middle schooler. Middle schoolers are shitty and she eventually became a better person and she didn't Technically do anything to Mob. It was mogami

My 2nd anti otp: I don't hate any ships other than the obvious, but the other one I like the least (NOT DISLIKE AT ALL) is emimob. Only because I feel like that goes against the point of the episode, but I could be wrong and I CAN be convinced that they're awesome. Because they probably are and I'm just not seeing it

Ok actually I'm gonna continue this rant where everybody can see it. (Mostly focusing on the Heralds bc Joseph,,, could be his own post honestly but he's mentioned when its important.)

Another very VERY well-made part of the framing and body language and everything in cutscenes is how they convey who is in power in every single one.

Let's start with John. He has the least amount of cut scenes in the game but also is shown not in power in 2/3 (4 if you count the beginning of his boss as a separate one) of them. The framing of the first cutscene portrays him as in charge and the focus at first, but then the moment Joseph enters the scene hes shown to have much more control and John suddenly looks like when a child is sent to the principals office or is being scolded by their parents. And that feeling doesn't end when Joseph leaves, because despite him still by all counts having some form of power over you, you already have seen cracks in the mask, and hes suddenly much less intimidating. The second scene is of course all John and the control he can possess when left alone but again, I think a big reason he is seen as pathetic by the fan base because he was already shown early to act almost neutered by Joseph and that was most likely on purpose. See, Johns area of the game is overall the easiest, and it's the one that's hinted at to go do first because it's a low-level area. He is the weakest in-game, and they absolutely knew what they were doing making the first guy you're supposed to fight still intimidating by how off the rails he can be and how him being set off causes violent tendencies that are scary when you are vulnerable, as shown in the Bunker scene and the Falls End scene. The final one i talk about above is finally putting him in a place where he is vulnerable, and it frames it as such, and it shows his panic and desperation in the end.

(Side note, the second bunker scene, from what I remember is the only John scene you can really look all around in, and it makes sense because of course you would be looking for a way out in this situation)

Faiths scenes are a little weird and different because Faith's whole thing is making you think that you want this and that she's just a helpful guide. Nope! No control here shes just showing you all this cool stuff. And for that reason her cutscenes generally allow you to look around and the focus is on both her and the environment. The scene where she has you walk the path is obviously very whimsical in nature and its the "we aren't scary! If we were evil would bliss be so beautiful? Would i be so kind?" Of course we the player also feel almost creeped out by this, because we see the fake smile with too many teeth and know what happens if you stay in the bliss too long. Faith is definitely meant to be the 2nd area in the game, mid level fights, her cutscenes can be put off but not entirely avoided like johns, a greater sense of urgency, that sort of thing. And Faith herself is intimidating because you never know when she's going to show up and where. Half way through a quest? K now you're jumping off the statue. Just stepped out of the jail? You're being shown the end by Joseph. It keeps you on your toes. Of course you can put it off for a while which is something i did often in game. Her boss is also probably the most fucking wild just because the mind fuckery that was present in her cutscenes being used against you more aggressively than before. Faiths 3rd act breakdown is fun too because you suddenly hear her giving excuses and trying to garner pity (albeit while chucking magic at you and flying,, did I mention her boss fight is my favorite?? Its my favorite.) Her final cutscene is soft and she dies with a warning. "If you listen to him, he'll be right" its ominous and it leaves you confused. Isn't she on his side? Its a weird sensation that sticks for a while after her fight. Clearly something meant to come to mind at the final fight with Joseph.

(Side note for her: I did the "side effects" or "after effects" quest or whatever its called after I beat her boss and was finishing up the quests in that area and man was it WILD to hear her giggling after death,,, she made more of an impact than y'all give her credit for, this has been my daily "please talk about faith more" psa)

Every cutscene with Jacob, regardless of weather or not hes actually in charge somehow conveys that he is in control of the situation. Its obvious for most of them, him being free and walking around, carefully chosing his words and what the player sees constantly, even when Pratt tries to reveal his plans its too frantic to understand. His presence is always felt in the Whitetail Mountains and his section of the game is obviously the most desperate. Your focus is always on him. What he's doing, where he's going, what he's saying. And he knows. He makes every word matter. And he is always confident. Even to the end. Theres something to be said about how even in the Joseph cutscene of his area, who always fucking steals the show when he's around, we still have a portion of our attention on Jacob because both of them are an equal threat. His death cutscene is probably the best example of my point. Even when he's hacking up blood and bleeding out he still is confident. He adds to Faith's warning "you did everything he said you would" still trying to instill that helplessness he's been giving you as he dies but it feels more genuine. He dies sitting on a rock, Jacob is gone but it never really feels that way.

Jacob and Queenie's Wedding: How it's possible? 3 Possibility Factors Theory

In end of 3rd movie, somehow Jacob and Queenie can got married in Kowalski Bakery, aka in US.

The big question that sadly there's no explaination in movie, how it's possible?

Everyone who following this series from first movie, must be know one of root problem that create conflict in this series is US Rappaport's Law.

That law forbid anyone from US magical community to have any relationship with non-magical community. They can't befriend with no-maj more even married with them.

This create conflict and one of reason why Grindelwald can rise. That law made magical community can't live freely, and Grindelwald offer magical community that freedom; because old ways, old systems, can't serve them anymore.

And here is the main plot and conflict of Queenie and Jacob have.

Queenie, a witch, want to marry Jacob, a no-maj. But Jacob didn't want that because he knows how the law will do to her. That's why in 2nd movie, Queenie choose to join Grindelwald because he offer the freedom to her, that old system can't give it to her.

Canonically, Rappaport's Law will only got abolish later in 1965. And FB3 timeline is around 1928/1932/1935 (still debatable bcs no confirmation yet)

So now, back again, how Jacob and Queenie's marriage is possible in end of 3rd movie when Rappaport's Law still there?

1. Jacob technically helping wizarding world community in 3rd movie. Maybe it can give exception?

It might be can be one of factor. But we know from 1st movie, how Seraphina tell us about Rappaport's Law: "there's no exception", even tho Main Four just saving NY.

2. So, we need another stronger factor than just because Jacob just helping wizarding community. Maybe the current winner Supreme Mugwump, Santos, like ask MACUSA to give exception? Since she seems like Jacob; she help to release cruciatus spells from Jacob.

It also might be additional factor. But, we don't know how far MACUSA will hear ICW. In first movie, MACUSA and ICW seems like blaming each other

3. MACUSA's President was changed in FB3 timeline. Also, Tina Goldstein, Queenie's sister, already become one of leader at MACUSA. Maybe inside MACUSA itself, things already change?

With that 2 previous factors, and then this internal change factor in MACUSA, it can give more strong reasons how the wedding is possible.

We don't know how the current MACUSA president be like, but there's possibilities the current president can be less strict than before? Adding with Tina is now Head Auror.

I am still salty how FB3 give us lame excuse for Tina's absence. I don't mind Tina is now Head Auror, but using it as excuse reason why she's absence without further explaination is totally lazy writing.....

In one of interview, it said Tina realise how law hurt people. She know law is still important, but she questioning her leaders and their decisions.

We might be questioning why Tina didn't join the team to save her sister. But it might be because Tina working harder inside the system; so Queenie can have place in system

It's possible Tina might be working harder after Queenie leave. She knows how law hurt her sister, so she might be working harder, and going to the top, with purpose want to change things inside the system.

She really become Head Auror and probably the current president really trust her.

When Queenie finally back, Tina might be persuade the current president to negoitate law, to let her sister marry Jacob.

Unlike before, Tina was just demoted Auror. But now, the system trust her; she's one of the leader in the system, the Head Auror. So Tina has more voice inside MACUSA's system right now.

Tina might be persuade the current president to give exception. Plus with additional another factors that Jacob just help save wizarding community again, and the current Supreme Mugwump might be give recommendation, it might be can be factors why the wedding suddenly possible in US.

Unlike first movie, even tho Main Four just help NY, there's no additional factor that can help Jacob to have exception in law.

But now with another factors like Tina is now one of leaders in MACUSA, and the change of president and Supreme Mugwump, it's possible there's change in system and they can give exception to Jacob and Queenie as gift for help saving wizarding world community, that's why the wedding is possible.

Bonus:

Lally also asking Tina to tell how MACUSA's been, right before going in to bakery. Maybe indeed there's something change happen in MACUSA and Tina is one of the factor and Lally need to know for gossiping material

3 things:

the first, Le gasp. Did Madara gave Hashirama the necklace that Tsunade gave to Naruto? That's always been a headcanon of mine so it'd be super cool if that was the case for OoT.

the 2nd: I now have a mental image of Gai running laps around Konoha with Lee & Hashimada bellowing about youth, like he does. Ppl just assuming that they're his Genin team. Cue either Neji, Tenten or Kakashi hearing about it and going over to check what's happening.

Kakashi will gaze upon the matching jumpsuits and give up on life

Neji and Tenten will be offended that they've been replaced.

The 3rd: Hashirama learns of Kakashi's (or well anyones) distaste for the jumpsuits and innocently suggest that when he becomes Hokage he'll implement them as the official Shinobi uniform. Legwarmers and all.

Now that I think about it, the Gai's outfit it literally Kakashi's except green and w/ legwarmers instead of bandages. So it probably wouldn't be that different, but its still kinda funny.

How are people afraid of the Gunbai? Cuz they're not old enough to have seen Madara use it and since he's a ghost, shouldn't all portraits/pictures of him be gone. I mean I guess there's still the statue. But Madara's not weilding a fan in that one. Are students just told in the academy that the fan is bad or is it more like a cultural aversion to fans. If that's the case then are they afraid of the fan or just dislike it? Cuz its kinda implied that Gai panicked upon seeing the fan and opened the 6th gate, but that's a big reaction that would only be triggered by actual fear instead of disgust.

Sorry for the long ramble. I was just so excited to see Oot update that my words got away from me. Love your fic!

Warnings for slight spoilers, it's more background necklace stuff only in point 1 but just fyi in case it’s important to you!

1. Yes! I love that headcanon but this one has a slightly different history behind it. Madara did give it to him, but it's the necklace he inherited from his mother that his father gave her. This is bc in the "canon" history, Madara and Hashirama were never public about their relationship. The traditional Uchiha courtship necklace was incredibly recognizable (the magatama ie the big "comma" symbol on sage/indra/ashura's clothes) so Madara couldn't easily make him one. However, Tajima made the same necklace for Kou but it broke into its now-recognizable shape of today and she refused to wear any other necklace but that one, saying it was unique among all the Uchiha's (she also compared it to a dick when Tajima added the two beads on either side to make it look nicer, but that's bc Kou had a rather coarse sense of humor). Typically the mother's necklace is inherited by the oldest daughter but since Kou only had sons, it went to Madara and was one of the last things he had of her. It was his declaration of love to give it to Hashirama and, considering how vilified and demonized Kou was to the Senju, his own declaration to accept and wear it.

2. Oh you better believe they’ll run laps together! (edit: I realized this got buried in my drafts so Chapter 17 has already come out, so yes you predicted part of the future 😜) Hashirama will be little more proactive in his revenge so no stumbling upon them haha! And Gai already has plans to introduce the terrors to his genin team 😉

3. He’ll accidentally stumble upon Kakashi’s specific distaste of the outfit but you better believe once he finds, he’ll just happen to bring it up to Kakashi every once in a while just to see his reaction. 

The issue with the gunbai is it’s specifically associated with the Ghost of the Uchiha. Madara’s individual name got lost (only the elders, ninja with access to classified records, and certain clans remember it). But the “Ghost” was a bogeyman to Konoha, an evil, terrible man who was cursed with only hatred in his heart, who turned on the village and tried to destroy it. 

(In the full story, it also connects Konoha’s hatred of Kurama specifically (the monster the Ghost used to try and destroy the village) which will also be connected to one reason why the jinchuriki were always set up to be pariahs, and how by killing Madara, Hashirama’s deification as the God of Shinobi was complete, as well as another reason the Uchiha were separated and held at arms length which only worsened over time as the story became more and more mythologized and Madara’s past contributions as a founder were lost.)

Because there weren’t paintings/statues of the Ghost (except for VotE which...I think is actually a bit of a controversial piece for Konoha tbh, and the Uchiha’s secret mural) the only thing that really stuck to symbolize him was the gunbai. This is a very American-centric perspective and I will be the first to admit isn’t a perfect parallel by any means but the kind of fear/hatred most of Konoha and especially ninja have towards the gunbai/Ghost can be thought of like the Red Scare panic. The “paranoia” point isn’t quite met but that kind of visceral hatred and fear over something that they’re told to fear and hate but don’t actually have first hand experience is similar. I also think it could work as a kind of dark reflection of the Will of Fire ideology. If you’re not someone who would sacrifice everything for the village and endure relentlessly...are you going to betray the village and become the next Ghost? That’s not a vocal belief in Konoha, but more something that’s kind of implied by the black/white mentality that nationalism kind of inspires. The emotion is only towards gunbai in particular, but the culture around fans in general and them being “too similar” has created an aversion to all fans esp in the ninja clans. Tenten has a small tessen (an iron hand held fan) but it’s something that very clearly marks her as clanless to other shinobi because no clan ninja would own one. 

All of this to say, when Gai first saw the gunbai unexpectedly the years of being taught this explicitly and implicitly kicked in and he reacted. It was a panicked instinct and if he weren’t the amazing man we know and love seeing Madara with the gunbai and definitely knowing their connection, other ninja in Konoha would find it perfectly reasonable for him to then try and attack Madara.

bc I said so and bc I was thinking about how much learning to play piano might have helped anakin a lot with learning patience/discipline/wisdom/better understanding jedi teachings and philosophy? also it’s a great outlet for creativity & for when you’re feeling frustrated/sad--playing the piano can be so soothing & therapeutic. becoming a pianist could probably really help him become a more balanced, stable person overall, and music in general is just really great and makes your life better. + consider: anakin playing the piano for padme when he wants to impress her and anakin teaching the 501st some tunes on their leave time

anakin:

- probably started out wanting to play pieces that are fast & angry because Master, they sound so cool!! 

- really wanted to learn kabalevsky’s sontina no. 1 opus 13 3rd movement at one point 

- also beethoven 

- but as time went on, he appreciated melodic, pretty pieces more and more, until eventually his preference shifted to those almost entirely

- this was kicked off by the piece “To a Wild Rose”

- at first he was kind of afraid to really embrace that because he was worried he’d get made fun of but eventually he just stopped caring and flaunted it 

- romantic era of piano music all the way 100%--chopin, tchaikovsky, also schubert and liszt to an extent

- schubert’s impromptu no. 3 op. 90, especially when he’s feeling kinda sad or is just in that vibe

- although he also does vibe a bit with early contemporary to an extent: debussy, debussy, debussy (the preludes, at least)

- vibes so much with debussy you have no idea

- June by Tchaikovsky!! what a jam. one of his all time favorites. plays it whenever he’s feeling down or just in the vibe. it took him forever to learn the middle part though because he just wanted to go fast already, but there are so many sharps and flats that he kept forgetting

- also vibes a lot with chopin nocturnes. and chopin waltzes.

- obi-wan gets tired of him playing so many melancholy pieces. anakin retorts that happy pieces are the most boring of piano pieces. they bicker

- also loves the Lark by glinka & balakirev. with all of his heart. it’s one of the first pieces he played for padme (she had a piano at varykino and they might have been on the run so he can try and get a little practice in, yknow?) and she was like. BAM. instantly in love. jkjkjk but she loved it. she gets very sappy in general when Anakin plays the piano

- also plays La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin for her. he plays padme lots of pretty pieces in general. she made sure to buy a piano for her senatorial apartments for this very reason. 

- debussy’s arabesque no. 1

- actually once he and padme reunited he just went looking through all his repertoire to try and find the prettiest pieces he could, to learn/relearn, so he could play them all for her

- played the Turkish March for the 501st once when they were on leave. once the 501st found out their general was a musician they went wild 

- has perfect pitch, which annoys both obi-wan and ahsoka to no end

- tends to rely on his ear a lot for learning pieces, which can help him learn & memorize quickly but also causes problems down the road, because he tends to not look through the music carefully enough and ends up with a lot of wrong notes/rhythms

- so, especially early on, he has to do a lot of “unlearning” a piece to get it right, and he got frustrated a lot in those first few years

- he eventually got past it, but he still rushes through trying to learn a piece quickly from time to time

- also tends to have problems with sightreading for the same reason--he doesn’t look through the music carefully enough

- keeping a steady tempo was also a challenge for him at first

- can reach over an octave with ease

- tends to be super musical & expressive but sometimes when he’s still learning the piece he tends to unduly accent notes that shouldn’t be accented

- tries to practice whenever they’re on leave or have free time during the war, plays a lot for ahsoka, obi-wan, padme, & the 501st

- has taught some of the 501st some basic tunes

- taught ahsoka

- for some reason, he’s really never felt like playing any music for palpatine. he can’t really put his finger on why.

ahsoka:

- starts out wanting to learn pop covers & stuff but does find the fast & angry pieces extremely cool

- never really transitions to liking romantic era melodic, slower pieces

- actually vibes with the contemporary era of piano music, for some weird reason 

- BUT. she does vibe with debussy’s “voiles” bc of the “forbeoding vibes”. it’s one of the few slowish pieces she actually likes playing

- that and tchaikovsky’s june. but everyone vibes with tchaikovsky’s june

- can also reach further than an octave. can reach an octave with relative ease, a nine note interval with a little effort, and a ten note interval if she really pushes it

- can also memorize a piece decently quickly, although she has to go back through and make sure she’s memorizing it accurately and not getting notes/rhythms wrong

- does not vibe with most of debussy’s preludes, or most mozart sonatas 

- does, however, vibe with the odd beethoven sonata here and there

- and ofc the moonlight sonata. everyone vibes with the moonlight sonata

- can and will play all of the video game music

- has tried to impress barriss with a fast piece more than once. barriss is suitably impressed, although she found the Cat and the Mouse rather. . . much

- doesn’t really get stage fright, unlike both obi-wan and anakin, because she’s always taken a rather “chill” approach to learning & performing 

- padme asked her discreetly once to teach her a simple piece so that she could surprise anakin, so ahsoka taught her how to play a simple variation of “ode to joy”. anakin loved it

+ bonus: padme

- never had the time to learn an instrument, between being literal queen of a planet at 14 and then a Senator after that, but she’s always had a soft spot for harp, so it’s on her bucket list to learn someday

- however, she adores music, especially classical music, and really has a soft spot for the slow, pretty pieces 

- loves tchaikovsky

- she finds it soothing and it really helps her relax after a long day trying to keep the Republic from falling apart :’)

- always asks anakin to play her a piece whenever they have an evening together

- has also gotten ahsoka to play her pieces, and, as mentioned above, teach her a simple tune

- has tried to wheedle obi-wan into playing her a piece. eventually it worked. she’s probably one of few non-Jedi he’s actually played the piano for

I’ve been wanting to draw or write out my ‘future’ Bottom ideas for a while but haven’t gotten around to it. So here’s a long post of some head canons and a general story line of them vaguely developing as people at some point set after the live shows. If anything this is just sort of my personal AU for the characters getting together. Mostly focused on the progression of Richie and Eddies relationship and my thoughts on both of them being trans

- They’re both trans, (a lot of Ades characters give me trans dudes vibes but that is 70% me wanting to time travel and body swap w the man) Eddie is a bi trans dude (who medically transitioned young, but is not necessarily out as either) and Richie is a closeted/repressed bi trans woman who begins to come to terms w it during the whole island era

- Richie is also intersex, which while yeah is sort of canon in a mean way, is sort of important to me for the character 🤭 However she is not aware of the fact

- Eddie is dyslexic and has ADHD which both contribute to him struggling on and off (which was really just a gag they went with when funny) with reading/writing depending on how well he can focus on it at any given time (example: the Edies Bra sign vs the grave stone). I am not even going to attempt to say what is going on w Richie but the woman is a mess of unresolved issues and trauma complications

- After everything they go through in the live shows they do somehow make it back to the flat which is unexplainably the exact way they left it.

- Every single joke about Richie going off and fucking dudes from the live show is taken as fact. It is the most poorly kept secret amongst the cast. They literally do not talk about it unless Eddie is trying to make a point or piss off Richie

- Eventually Eddie IS trying to piss off Richie and does bring up everything about her sex life and the clothes, and... well everything else. After a ridiculous fight it somehow turns into an almost semi-serious conversation. Eddie makes the assumption that Richie is gay and Richie counters with the fact that she is genuinely interested in women but it’s a hell of a lot easier to get attention from specific types of men. Gets some wheels turning in both of their heads

- Personality wise they never really calm down, but they do start to slow down a little bit as it takes them longer and longer to recover from their fights. Obviously there is still the odd dart to the forehead or gentle push down the stairs but the ridiculous games and completions they make up take center stage

- they get weed at some point (Dave Hedgehog and Spudgun seems like a feasible source, because let’s be honest if Richie and Eddie tried to buy weed it would not work) that leads to all sorts of embarrassment because Eddie gets crossfaded as all get out and starts hitting on Richie. Which while having a precedent in their history (I mean, the first episode gives us that right away) takes on a new sort of meaning once the concept of bisexuality has been rolling around in their heads. Nothing particularly saucy happens at this point Bc they are high, drunk, and old but all of the actual acknowledgement of feelings start to really develop after this point

- in an attempt to do something with her time Richie picks up sewing and picks up where she left off with the wrap skirt and rubber underwear she made on the island. Starts to really develop the little wardrobe she wears when she’s alone. It’s a mix of the same awful button up shirts she always wears and some dresses and skirts along with a couple pairs of sexier (for Richie at least) under garments

- eventually Eddie comes home while Richie is still in her feminine clothing. Eddies Reaction is different from the first time he saw her dressed up that way since now there is a precedent. Eddies approach is much more “playful teasing” and fake surprise than it was previously.

- Slowly Richie starts dressing up around the flat more and more often as opposed to just when alone. Eddie ramps up with the pet names and husband/house wife dynamic they already had going on.

- THE MOMENT is when Eddie is leaving the flat to go to the bar and there is an ‘accidental’ kiss on the cheek along with his usual good byes. Eddie realizes what has happened immediately and bolts before Richie can say anything. Richie has a moment of “teehee that was nice” still in her little fucking house wife head space before it catches up w her.

- Richie panics, paces around the flat, gets changed like 8 times, cooks dinner, throws it away, takes it out of the trash, paces more, breaks like 8 things, and essentially just fluctuates between “Ooo Eddie fancies me” to “oh fuck the bastard is making fun of me again” to “it was an accident and Eddie is going to make it into a fight” back to “ooo Eddie fancies Me~”

- eventually Eddie comes home, pissed to hell and back way later than he’d normally come home. Richies passed out on the couch. Eddie wakes her up by pushing her over on the couch so he can sit. Eddie says something along the lines of “I’m fucking drunk so I’m only going to say this one” before saying some incomprehensible drunken rambling and pulling Richie into an awkward full kiss. It’s a nice moment for maybe about 5 seconds before he stands up again, pulls a pint out of his jacket, chugs it and says something about drunkenly passing out before doing just that across the coffee table.

- Richie just sort of gawks at Eddie sleeping across the table before giddily tossing a blanket over him and heading off to actually go to bed.

- relationship wise this really just sort of introduces a sexual/physical dynamic to their relation while ramping up their camp version of domestic life

- it’s Spudgun and Dave Hedgehog who actually say something to Eddie about it. They’ve always been in on the “oh look, it’s Eddies terrifying wife” thing. Probably only actually say something about it after the 2nd or 3rd actual display of physical affection they witness. It’s more of one of them asking Eddie if Richie really is his wife (in that half aware sort of way they observe things). This alone doesn’t change much, but it does takes a lot to get through to any of these repressed bastards

- Richie grows accustomed to the more feminine/soft pet names that Eddie uses for her. At one point Eddie uses more traditionally masculine terms which sets off “oh actually I am not a fan of that” in Richies head and leads her to asking Eddie to not refer to her that way. Leads to an awkward half coming out on Richies part. Eddie does genuinely switch up how he refers to Richie at this point and her gender just sort of becomes an silent fact that they both respect. Everyone else sort of knows them as those weirdos who have some sort of common law marriage going on and it’s not really questioned. This is the point where Richie starts to earnestly medically transition without really saying to much about, canonically she has been on estrogen pills before (even if it was a ‘mistake’)

- End game is essentially just them being casual about their identities and relationships in a unspoken sort of “well that’s just how it is” way that naturally sort of bleeds into a the other aspects of their lives.

- Additional note on Eddie being trans: Richie is already vaguely aware of this fact Bc obviously they’ve been seen what the other is working with at one point or another but the fact that she is unaware that she herself is intersex and has a skewed sort of idea about genitals and peoples bodies Richie genuinely does not think about it all too much. Eddie assumes that she knows, especially as they get older and casually refers to being trans (in my mind probably during the entire “Edwina” disguise thing. I imagine Eddie wearing the dress came down to the clothing size and some off hand comment about him “having experience”, which is total shit Bc even before he transitioned Eddie never presented that way). That’s probably around the point that things start to click in Richies head about Eddies identity and she starts comparing and contrasting Eddie to other ppl and such.

I was gonna write the romo attraction thing today but honestly i dont feel like doing it bc im just rlly upset about smth that im sure a lot of ppl can relate to

So my irl friend groups are very... well they dont know much about these kinds of things, i had to be a walking encyclopaedia for them about my identities like nb stuff bc they didn't bother to just... look it up.

When i told them i was trans they would say "omg are you actually trans?? I have a trans best friend!!" Yikes

Instead they would ask me to explain it. Which is fine, i kinda hate having to explain for the 5th time that no, using the correct terms and pronouns is not a fucking burden, and that yes, dysphoria is awful and wont just magically go away.

and when i tell them to yk, not use pronouns for me and just use my name instead, not 1 person did that. They just... misgendered me and used she/her when i explicitly told them that it makes me dysphoric. I then told them to use coo/coos/cooself instead bc i quite like it, but they still didnt use it.

Then i gave up and told them to use they/them since it doesnt make me dysphoric even tho i lowkey hate it. They still misgender me but said "they'll try to get used to it". Its not that hard guys what the actual fuck???

Anyway, i was actually going to talk about aspec stuff. So i only told one of them that i was demiromantic demisexual, and they said "wtf is that" which yk is not a nice way to react to someone coming out, but i have thick skin so i just explained it bc again they couldnt bother to search it, and they said "ok ig" and changed the subject when i wanted to explain my attraction???? I've never had anyone that i could talk to about my complicated feelings with being aspec and just when i thought i could i was shut down.

I thought it was over and done with, until they started to... ignore my fucking identity??? Which i would say is way more important and personal to me than my bisexuality??? They never did any of that bs with my bisexuality probably bc they were pansexual themself, but jfc is it that hard to not make jokes about me being horny or having a crush or joking about setting me up on blind dates??? It legit made me so uncomfortable and i have no idea what to say.

Bc remember, they didnt exactly respect my pronouns and kept using gendered terms to refer to me even more after i came out??? I swear it feels like its on purpose every time they called me a girl but whatever

Istg they forgot that im demi bc they keep making these jokes and ignoring that i dont feel sexual or romantic attraction like that and keep acting as if i want to date ppl or fuck them when i say they look pretty??? I spent way too fucking long mistaking my aesthetic attraction for sexual for ppl to once again reinforce this idea and im done with it. Please for the love of god stop it.

I said i liked wilbur and thought he was rlly cute and they then proceeded to, you guessed it, act like im in love with him or that i want to fuck him. First of all, hes a real person on the internet that i do not know, 2nd of all, fucking eww, and 3rd of all, hes a whole ass adult and we r both in high school. Yikes again.

Ofc i didnt tell them these things and just said that i dont like him that way and just thought he was pretty and nothing else. They completely ignored this and thought i was just embarrassed or smth or that i was in denial. Yikes again again.

So yeah. The only lesson i learned is to never come out as aspec to anyone irl ever again. Tbh i kinda want to tell them that im not bi and that i dont feel any kind of attraction. It would be a lie but christ i wish they would stop. They can validate my bisexuality but not my nb or aspec identities? I knew that queer sexualities were more normalized now which is awesome but why cant they do that for trans ppl or aspecs? Why does it have to stop there?

Sorry for venting like this but i thought this might be relatable for yall. Ive never had the experience of feeling "broken" bc of any of my identities, im very confident in them. I just wish other ppl other than my online friends would feel the same.

Yee I've never felt broken either! I think an element of that is that I thought I was allo for a very long time? But on the other hand I was bullied in my childhood for not having attraction so idk why that hasn't manifested into a phobia of romance but eh I'm better off this way whether it makes sense or not.

It makes me happy as well cuz a lot of ppl in the community seem very pessimistic abt how we're treated but it's nice to know that not all of us feel broken cuz the 2 of us are living examples of that :)

But unfortunately yeah, your experiences above are things many ppl can relate to. I'm sure almost everyone can remember a time where they came out to someone and weren't met with good responses,,

Let this be a reminder that this is not right and we deserve more support for something so personal. Even if you don't understand someone's identity that doesn't give you the right to dismiss or ignore them. Our identities are very important and personal to us and supporting them is basic respect.

Im going to write down my second experience seeing Day6 live mostly for me, but feel free to read it after the break if you want (please do not reblog it tho) ✨ a little warning i’ll probably get very emotional and personal and this is going to be Very long and probably will get incoherent at some point!!!!!

I saw Day6 yesterday in Madrid for the second time, and not to be dramatic but it was probably one of the best experiences of my life 😭💕 I already had lots of fun last year but this year’s concert was not only fun but very meaningful for me.

As some of you may know I finally finally finished this week my architecture studies after 6 and a half very long and tough years. The last two have been especially hard, aproximately the same ammount of time I’ve been following Day6 closely. When I first discovered their music I immediately fell in love with it, and I fell in love again when i got to know them. I can positively say they’re the closest artists to my heart, my soulmate band. I do love and appreciate a lot of other artists but the way I love day6 it’s.... unparalled. I’m gonna stop being cheesy now hfjjsjka but knowing that I was going to see them again and meet them after all the constant exhaustion that my master’s has been has given me so much strenght during those all nighters and endless days working on my project kjfdkjjks 

I’m privileged enough to have been able to get vvips tickets this time but tbh that’s not important, the whole experience of the concert it’s what makes it worth it. Me and my friends decided not to go queueing very early bc we wanted to be well rested and we knew we were going to have a good spot in any case. We were so lucky yesterday’s weather was sort of warm, considering our awful awful experience from last year jkdjkskj. I’m so happy we were so prepared this time, we brought lots of snacks and blankets for the queue. We also prepared some fanart freebies to share and trade and it was the nicest experience, everyone there was so so lovely!!! I had such a great time only waiting in line and chatting with myday ^^ After we got out numbered wristbands we picked up our signed entropy copies. I got the “Sweet” version which is my fave!!! I traded around the pcs so i ended up with all Sungjin and Dowoon jhjfhjsdj (and the loveliest Dopil pc 😭❤) I was so happy we didnt have any trouble with queueing or numbering this time!!!!! Then we went for lunch and almost didn’t make it back on time bc it took us ages to get out meals n we wanted to leave all the heavy stuff and coats at the car jdfjkdkjskk but!!! we made it thanks to the lovely people next to us in the queue!!!

We finally got into the venue (which is so big!!! and we filled it!! im so PROUD) and my friends were headed to the left side where Jae is but I noticed the middle section was also kind of empty so we ran there kjkjfd and ended up in 2nd-3rd row!!! so we were in the middle and had a great view of everyone ^^ i felt kind of bad bc the people around us had been queueing from 3am and we’d arrived at 8:30 :P also next to us there was this korean girl who runs a Dowoon fansite and she was very nice and polite and she must kind of hate now me a bit bc I didn’t stop moving and jumping  i hope her pics came out nicely anyway!!! we only had to wait for an hour inside n we had lots of sweets to keep our energy up so it was quite alright :)

when they boys came out i noticed i had the clearest Sungjin visual so I ended up looking at him most of the time kjfjdkkkdksd i just couldn’t help it like the pics don’t do him justice he’s just so cute and expressive and makes the funniest faces when playing!!! and sort of bounces when playing which is the Cutest thing!!!!  there was some sort of problem with his guitars at first n seemed a bit annoyed but it turned out alright!! I also paid lots of attention to Jae bc he has Such Energy performing, the truest hype man!!! when he plays you can see he’s genuinely enjoying himself and loves myday so so much :(((( he interacted a lot with us!! 

Dowoon was also in front of me but he was covered most of the time by his drumset :(( I could see him making all these baby bird pouty faces or mouthing the lyrics and it was.... so CUTE :((((( he’s so cute i 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 also i was in awe at his drumming technique like he’s so so so talented and you can clearly see how much he loves it!!! He’s the best boy!!!

I had to move my head a bit to see YoungK and Wonpil and I tried my best looking at everyone when they were singing, but my eyes would automatically go back to Sungjin jfdjskjkaskj I can tell you Young K is very VERY Atractive when performing, he has a sort of magnetism!! He also seemed soooo happy and would jump around non stop and smile at the fans and just Bless us in general!!! Wonpil was sort of serious when playing but you could tell he was concentrated !!! Also his piano and dj skills im!!!!!! like when he plays the Time of Our Life intro so easily!!! i play piano and let me tell you it is difficult as Fuck!!! he truly is so talented!! plus when he was talking with us he was so playful and cute :(((((

Some concert Highlights for me: hearing Best Part live, also So Cool, TOOL, Headache, wanna go back!!! how to love!!! SWEET CHAOS!!!! also hearing WARNING again which may easily be my fave song of them now (well no...we all know it’s impossible to pick just one but yeah jkdfjskkç) also Colors!! when the first chords started playing i started tearing up n then the chorus came n i just broke down crying jsdsk I also cried during I Need Somebody and that bit when we sang back to them and we sang I Smile :((( also the fucking SOLOS hello most talented band in the universe????!!! but like for real they all sound so good live!!! i love that you can clearly hear the drums and keys and all the instruments, plus their vocals are just!! so!! good!!!!!! Jae and Young K went Mad with the adlibs I was living my best life!!!!! 

at some point i locked eyes with Sungjin n my potato brain decided the best thing i could do was to send a flying kiss his way so i did n he got so SHY!!!! and made a 😳😳😳😳 face jkdfjkjkjks i felt v awkward afterwards like i didnt know he was going to react that way jfdkjksa 

Also hearing them speaking spanish...fucking surreal...but when they did their ments in English!!! wow!!! they’ve gotten so good!!!! they kept saying they were so happy and this was the best way to end the tour and they’d grown so much, and reminding us to always be happy i :((((( Wonpil’s ment was the sweetest thing and he sent such an important message and I started crying again (and i made eye contact with Jae while ugly crying so i had to hid behind my banner jkdskjjkjdskks) and couldn’t stop through the whole length of their ments :(( i barely remember anything from young k’s bc i was trying to compose myself a bit jkfkjkjd Dowoon’s was so cute!!! He’d wait for the translator and make such funny faces i :((( Sungjin’s English and like Everything about him im so gone kjfkjjkds and then JAE’S...........

that was truly the Highlight of the night, what truly truly made everything special and what i hope will make them cherish and remember this night forever. So a bit of context: we had prepared a project where during For Me we would take out some prints of some of Jae’s encouraging and inspirational tweets and held them up. So at first Jae was surprised but I guess he didn’t have the time to read which specific tweets we were holing. Then during like the second half of the song he realised n got like v serious like he was trying not to cry...I remember Sungjin also realised bc he was looking at Jae just Knowing.... the whole hi touch thing was such a fiasco but tbh i didnt have much hope to begin with jkfdjkdkjs they made us wear face masks as a prevention for the coronavirus break.........but it didnt really matter bc there was an insane number of vips so we were a LOT of pple for the hi touch...we were rushed n pushed n screamed at by both security n mmt staff....i was laughing at the whole absurdity of the situation n wonpil saw me hjdfkjksjks...we barely had time to say something and high five them but i did manage to say thank u to each of them n look them in the eyes at least!!! Adiris (The Plague) lore dissection and placement:

!! THESE ARE MY OWN FINDINGS AND HEADCANONS BECAUSE I AM A NERD - FEEL FREE TO CIVILLY COMMENT AND DISCUSS BELOW !!

Let’s start at the beginning: Babylon was originally a small Akkadian town dating from the period of the Akkadian Empire around 2300 BC. It lasted until about, at a stretch, till the 900′s, when Muslin traveler Ibn Hauqal mentioned a small village called Babel, and subsequent travelers only saw ruins.

In it’s later years, Babylon was part of the Persian Empire that was conquered by Muslin invaders about 651 AD, and after that Babylon went into sharp decline. Islamization followed and Babylon was dissolved as a providence in the subsequent years.. With that, we can start narrowing down Adiris’ time of existence.

I doubt that Adiris’ comes after the 651 AD invasion since her religion and way of writing (cuneiform) would have been assimilated into the conquering Muslims, and from her lore it implies that her religion is well organized (going by her religious duties and the way she carries them out) and somewhat widespread. I know that 2300 BC and 651 AD are about 3000 years apart, but let’s start digging deeper.

The religion that Adiris worships is the Ancient Mesopotamian Religion, but each city, including Babylon, had it’s own patron deity/deities and its own unique spin on it’s religion. With the sea-goat god that is mentioned in her lore likely being the water and creation god, Ea, which matches with unique Babylonian religion.

Christianity was introduced to the Mesopotamia Area in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, and Babylon was the seat of a Bishop of the Church of the East until well after the Arab/Islamic Conquest. The Church of the East was founded in 410 AD and declared its independence from other Christian sects in 424 AD. By this time, most Mesopotamian Religions had died out, replaced with Assyrian Christians up until 500′s AD at the most. This starts to really cut back on the dates as well, unless the religion was a secret sect, which Adiris’ lore does not imply that the religion was a secret.

Alexander the Great conquered the area of Babylon in 331 BC. After he passed in 323 BCE, his generals fought so much over who should take over what area that many areas that Alexander controlled before his death fell into anarchy or were slowly deserted, with Babylon. This can help us further pushes back the date that Adiris could’ve come from, though this isn’t definitive. This is more of a point where Babylon really starts to decline in importance.

Now, we’re all assuming the plague is the Bubonic Plague, and the symptoms are pretty well align, BUT the first real recording “epidemic” of the disease did not break out until 541-542 AD, and from reading above, Babylon religion was almost completely phased out at this point by Christianity and other rising religions, so the plague in the lore cannot be that plague, or any afterwards.

A big indicator that Adiris was not from that time period is that her lore directly states “...a catastrophic plague had resurfaced...” ‘resurfaced’ meaning it has returned. Now, the Bubonic Plague has been around for thousands and thousands of years, so its certainly plausible that a somewhat localized epidemic could’ve broken out in and around Babylon, since it was an Urbanized city.

Another big landmark that was mentioned was Urashtu, which is now in the location of modern-day Armenia. Called by other areas Uratu but also as the Kingdom of Van, the kingdom was known as Urashtu by Babylonian peoples. The kingdom came to power around 860 BC and fell to Iranian Medes about 590 BC. Variants of the name Urashtu was used before and after these years by Babylonians, but the name of Armenia eventually because predominant in the following centuries. I would say this is the biggest limiter yet of years, and it is, but its not a solid limiter, but gives us a much better idea of the timeframe, which is now more than certainly moving into BC times.

Adiris reflects to the creation story/ story of creation, which is most likely referring to the  Enûma Eliš, Babylonian creation myth, and the one in the Library of Ashurbanipal dates back to the 7th century BC, and scholars think that the story originated in the late part of the second millennium or even around the time of Hammurabi (1700s BC). Knowing how video games work, it’s safe to assume the tablet of creation they mention in the lore is one about that age of the one discovered, which coincides with the founding/existence of the Urashtu Kingdom.

So now we have a plausible span of time in which we can place Adiris, with a bit of wiggle room, 900 BC-323 BC, a huge jump downward from the earlier estimate.

From 539 BC to 336 BC, it was noted that the Persian Kings who ruled over Babylon tried to keep Babylon as beautiful and splendid as it was, but by Darius II rule in 336BC, the city and noticeably religious centers, canals and shrines had deteriorated to the point where it and weakening stability destabilized the area and region. Since it was noted in the lore of Adiris’ wealth and makes illusions to luxury, Adiris probably does not come from the later part of that timeframe.

Another interesting thing to note is that the city of Babylon was nearly completely razed in 689 BC, and its rubble was thrown into the sea of Arakhtu, and the city was in a state of revolt for years surrounding this event. From 911 BC-609 BC, Babylon was under direct control of the Assyrians, and those later years marred Babylonia with war, starvation and and surrender to enemies. But in 609, the Assyrian Empire started to fall apart and Babylon was set free, and became the Neo-Babyloian Empire.

Babylon was freed under Nabopolassar in 626 BC and continued until 539 BC when Cyrus the Great of Persia conquered the Empire. It is during this timespan that Babylon underwent somewhat of an Golden Age of cultural and religious revival, described as a renaissance. It was said that the city was refortified and lined with towers and walls, and old forms of cuneiform was reinstated and used modified to look like 3rd century BC script of Akkad.

With all of this information, my personal educated guess would be that Adiris came from about this period of time from 626 BC to 539 BC, during that great state of revival, or in the immediate areas around that, especially when you think about the statement: “...a catastrophic plague resurfaced...”.

A plague can greatly change political landscapes, allowing certain empires to fall and others to rise, and plagues can creep in during a great period of peace and prosperity because people’s immune systems will not be used to the sickness and diseases attributed to war, thus as to why it appears that many people fell ill.

Field study: The Royal Palace

Wednesdays are unique at DIS in the sense that we don’t have a typical day of classes. Instead, we have field studies somewhere around Stockholm to learn ~outside the classroom~

Today was my first field study for my Swedish Language & Culture class. Half of regular class time is devoted to learning the culture (which is cool bc I can apply what I learn in class to my observations of the Swedes around me) and the other half is devoted to our horrendous pronunciations of Swedish words and butchered attempts at the grammar.

We went to the Royal Palace for a guided tour from a very theatrical and sassy man who was probably the reason why I found the tour so fun to listen to. The overall theme of the tour was power, specifically the symbols that convey the power of the monarchy. Interestingly enough, the monarchy hasn’t had any real political powers since 1975. They mostly have representational duties at diplomatic state and charity events, so i guess you could say.. they’re a symbol for Sweden (lol warning: i will be using the word “symbol” a lot in this post). 

Here are some fun facts that I learned from the tour so that you don’t have to pay for one (just kidding!! the tour is actually highly highly worth paying for, it’s def been my favorite stereotypically touristy thing that i’ve done in stockholm so far!)

1) The story of the silver throne. The first female queen of Sweden was Queen Kristina, who became queen at the age of six because her dad died in the Thirty Years War and there wasn’t a son to take over. In order to really cement her power as a female ruler for the people, bc lol yakno women couldn’t be the boss back then, she was gifted the silver throne at her coronation. They also renamed one of the busiest streets in Stockholm from Stora Konungsgatan (”Great King’s Street”) to Drottninggatan (”Queen Street”). It’s all about these symbols man, because if you look & sound like you have power, then it follows that you must actually be powerful. 

What’s kinda cool is that the silver throne has made its appearance in a few Hollywood movies. Greta Garbo played the queen in Queen Christina (1933), so it makes sense that she would have a silver throne as a prop. But then, a couple decades later, the prop also became the throne for Jack Nicholson as he played the Joker in Batman (1989). Our tour guide said that this was pretty controversial for Sweden at the time because the joker is a villain and villains shouldn’t sit on something as historically important as the silver throne, but nonetheless, Warner Brothers still retained the rights to use the prop. 

2) Since the 1970s, Royal Orders of Knighthood have only been given to foreigners outside of Sweden and aren’t allowed to be awarded to Swedish citizens or expats living in Sweden. This is to reinforce the idea that everyone inside Sweden is equal and no one citizen is above another. The principle of equality is actually pretty noticeable in everyday Swedish culture. 

For example, we call all of our teachers by first name here due to the lack of hierarchy in a school or workplace environment. Contrast this with how American culture taught me to address figures of authority (Mr./Mrs./Dr./m’aam/sir.) and how Chinese culture taught me to address any older acquaintances (Uncle/Aunt). Being on first-name basis with all of my teachers is definitely something that I’m gonna have to get used to.

3) There’s actually been three royal palaces so far. No one knows what the first one looked like (bc no historical record), the second one looked more like a stereotypical castle (for some reason our tour guide kept calling it ugly???) and the third one - the current one - is designed to look like a Roman villa (which the tour guide also said was ugly LOL). The architecture derived most of its inspiration from the Romans because there was a desire to be as powerful as ancient Rome once was and to be known as Roma Nova (aka the “new Rome”).

4) If you look really really closely in the above picture of the Roman villa, in the center of the four walls of the main square (lol idk how else to describe it), you’ll see a white dot but it’s actually a star. The star represents the Northern Star, another symbol for the king, because the Northern Star never sets in Sweden (just like how the king’s power should never set!!!!). None of the palace workers are allowed to step on the star when they’re walking around, because that metaphor would be akin to stepping on the king. LOL. 

5) The palace is deceptively tall. By the time you reach the main floor with the king’s bedchamber and the ballroom and dining hall, you’re technically already on the ninth floor. The guide said that usually in a palace/castle, the living quarters for the king are designed to be closer to the ground floor so that he doesn’t have to expend too much energy going to his bed (whereas everyone else, like the servants, would have to climb to the highest floor). Instead, this royal palace was designed so that by the time any ambassadors or visitors reached the floor where the king was waiting to welcome them, the visitors would be tired and out of breath, thus automatically giving the king the upperhand. Asserting your dominance in the 1700s... amazing.

6) Most of the ceilings in each room are painted elaborately. One room has different images that represent global influences in each of the four corners, including Africa, Asia, and America (can’t remember what the fourth corner was. Sweden was in the middle of the ceiling, of course). The symbol for America is a blue Native American and an alligator. I don’t know why they chose the alligator (did someone go back to Sweden and talk all about Florida or something?) but they painted the Native American blue because the artist at the time didn’t know what Native Americans looked like... so they assumed... that their skin... was blue..... fun fact.

And with that, we finished the tour! Then our class fika’d at this cute & quaint cafe in Gamla Stan. I honestly think these kanelbullars (cinnamon rolls) are going to be the death of me.

Dream I befriended a cop and took him to BFF and felt really guilty for being friends w/ him but didn’t know how to get rid of him, and felt like I was going to get BFF shut down. Thinking back, I think the cop was a guy who is actually a member of BFF that I think is really cute (initials: T.M.)

dream that i was getting drinks at a bar and got roofied and found out the whole bar got roofied and was all passed out around me and i had to struggle to the door/figure out how to open the door and then gary came in and started punching the guys who drugged everyone and i woke up

dream that one of M’s friends was assaulting me and M walked in and saw and assumed I was cheating on him and when i tried to explain that it was nonconsensual M didn’t believe me and the guy assaulting me got mad and began attacking me and M just stood and watched bc he was mad at me and then my fam appeared and also didn’t believe me and just watched.

dream in which i bumped into a recent ex-friend who wanted to hang out, so came w/ me on whatever errand I was running and was acting really chummy and then she said something about having not seen me for a while and i went IN on how i felt about her sudden and complete absence in my life and lack of response to invitations etc and the last thing i remember from the dream is watching her collapsed on the ground crying and feeling guilty and knowing that she thought I was being unfair/that she thought she hadn’t done anything wrong

fell asleep thinking about falling asleep on top of M, began dreaming about sleeping on top of R. At first, was so happy thinking “I’ve wanted this all day!” and then realizing it wasn’t M and getting confused/upset

dream about befriending a cop to protect/save victor and conceal my identity. had this dream after going to M’s and there were cops all over/talking about cops w/ M

another dream about realizing i’m gay? what is this? this one was a lot longer and more in depth and has lingered w/ me throughout the day. I don’t remember many details -- i just remember that i agreed to some type of threesome w/ two other girls, and one of the girls I was neutral about being around but i was excited overall bc the threesome was going to give me a chance to hook up w/ this other person (a nonbinary female anarchist i know through fb but not irl.) so then we all hooked up and i thought it was brilliant and amazing. and then somehow it switched scenes to my mom screaming at me for something and I was sitting there thinking how much more she’d be screaming at me if she knew i’d just been w/ two women. idk. the night before I had a 3 or 4 hour conversation with a communist rad fem former sex-worker about how fucked up men are and how much they fuck women up and had fucked us up. it was a really depressing conversation that got way too real for both of us, talked about all kinds of abuse and conditioning etc and she said she was wondering if she was gay and i was like “what woman doesn’t wonder that??” so I guess that’s where the dream came from.

four dreams in one night: had a dream about Haley and I hanging out, I don’t remember the context or if it was good or bad. knowing the pattern of these dreams, probably bad lol.

four dreams in one night: had a dream about Christian and I needing to carry some wounded animal or person. It was very small, I don’t remember what it was, but it had a broken hip. I kept trying to instruct Christian how to carry it w/o making the break worse and he was very frustrated w/ my directiveness and wouldn’t listen and ended up dropping his side of the animal and not caring. lol.

four dreams in one night: I had a dream that an acquaintance of mine, Celine, was going off kind of generally, not at me, about how she was a capitalist and how that didn’t mean she didn’t support colin kaepernick. Probably bc irl I was feeling stressed about calling capitalists grubby-handed in a fb comment.

dream about a professor i like, don’t remember it but don’t think it was bad. think maybe it was about getting a pop quiz? 

I had a dream about Victor when he was a toddler and just learning to form complete sentences. wearing that pink shirt with bananas on it. don’t remember what he was trying to say, though.

Another three dream night: R came over to my house to talk to me, but he was naked, and i had to yell at him to get out until he had clothes on.

2nd dream of that night: My roommate’s cat tried to attack my kitten and punctured her paw.

3rd dream of that night: I got lost on my way to clinical and I forgot my shoes.

I’m always hoping to run into/spot contrapoints somewhere and i had a dream that i finally did at a busboys and poets event. She was so nice at first and we were talking and i was telling her how amazing she was. Then she tried to rape me. I’m assuming this dream is connected to the kavanaugh hearing stuff that’s going on rn but WHY DID MY BRAIN PICK ON CONTRAPOINTS? I love her! But the dream was pretty scary. 

Dream that my eyebrows were so bushy and they had always been so bushy, i had just never noticed, and i was appalled

dream that i somehow ended up having a sleepover w/ me and all of the old friends from Ledo’s. i thought it was finally my chance to see if Grady was into me (he wasn’t) then turned to jamie (he was). Everyone looked like high school, hadn’t aged.
