like idk if this is an aroace thing bc i don’t hear it described in a way that i relate to exactly so this might just be me but basically: i’ve always loved romance and ships in fiction but as i got older i slowly realized that i don’t think i can feel it for myself. which kinda made me sad at first because the idea of having a partner always seemed so nice, that was the main reason i didn’t think i was aroace at first because i thought i had always wanted to be in a relationship. i did some research and looked into different identities on the aroace spectrum, and thought that cupioromantic was probably the most accurate to what i was feeling, but later didn’t feel like it applied to me because i think the “enjoys the idea of being in a relationship” doesn’t fit right? ig?? idk how to describe it other than i like the idea of relationships, but it took me awhile to realize that i didn’t really want to apply myself in one if that makes sense.

most likely there’s a thing or word out there that already exists to describe that and i just haven’t been looking up the right terms, but basically this is just a very very long way of saying that i feel like whenever i get into a ship it sorta..…attaches?? to my very identity or something?? like i know people can be like “this is my OTP i love them forever and think about them literally all the time” and it’s like YES that’s me but also feels like an understatement, like all of my past hyperfixations on ships are literally ingrained into my soul even i’m not that into them anymore. and i know people compare hyperfixations to relationships and tbh that’s probably the most accurate description but again, that feels like an understatement.

okay honestly idk where i’m going with this i think what i’m TRYING to say is that i feel like because i can’t feel romance for myself my appreciation for ships feels so much more…emphasized, and sonadow is like the longest consistent hyperfixation i’ve ever had on a ship and at that point usually when something has been a “hyperfixation” for 2+ plus years i put it on the special interest display case in my brain except that display case has only ever had like hobbies and fandoms themselves, never an actual fictional relationship that i’m obsessed with but here we are. it might be the development of brain has synched up with this specific hyperfixation but sonadow is the first ship that makes me feel genuinely happy to this degree. it doesn’t make me sad to think about them and also go “aw i’m sad because i’ve never felt that way about another person and probably won’t experience that ever” in the exact same way you would go “aw i’m going to be dead someday” when you think about the fact that you’re alive right now and conscious and exist and have a mini existential crisis of the week. like sonadow doesn’t do that to me, i really just love those stupid fucking gay hedgehogs so much they’ve actually changed the entire layout of my brain and all the neurons and shit they’re everything to me.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I just posted my XF Porn Battle fic that I was too shy to originally share. Generally my smut is more romantic and just an extension of the Mulder and Scully dynamic

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I kind of consider prompts, comments and betas as a form of cowriting and one of my favorite fics I have written was because of a prompt to write from a third party POV (which I would never think to do).

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have this awesome series that covers before the revival and post pandemic. I have such a good outline but it’s so daunting to tackle because it would be the longest story I’ve tried sitting.

16. What are your writing strengths? Characterization and dialogue. I also read waaaay more fics than I write (in different styles) and that helps improve writing.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Sticking with a grammatical tense and being consistent 🤣 for other writing projects I usually have to use present tense (as the story unfolds), so I’ve been practicing other styles with when writing fics.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I’ve done it briefly but it’s kind of jarring to put a translation in and can get clunky and heavy with exposition if you’re not careful so I stick with English if it’s more than one line.

19. First fandom you wrote for? So I’ve had to write Specs when I was younger for different shows as part of an audition/interview and had two very successful specs that got me work for Medium, Community, and Hannah Montana 🤣 (I didn’t get to pick!!). But writing TXF fanfic is so much more enjoyable, I get to tell the stories I want the way I want and it’s not team writing.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? I have two and they’re polar opposites, lol. Her Own Desk was my first fic and came out of my thoughts on Scully not having an official desk in the Revival. I also love Field Evaluation and was contemplating adding another chapter just this morning.

well a lot of my fics have fairly happy endings, but I’d say All That She Wants, an Agatha-centric fic, and Happier Memories, a proposal fic, have the most hopeful endings.

only twice so far, though I have another stewing in my brain that might get written. I can’t really say i'm limited to a certain “type” though, i’m pretty versatile, pun intended.

no, they’re not really my thing.

back when i used to write on wattpad i got some DMs asking to translate my fics and i always agreed, but i don’t know if they ever followed through.

yes, i really love doing so! I wrote a stucky fic with one of my friends years ago, but we never ended up posting it anywhere. also, the two aforementioned marvel fics were co-written with another (now ex) friend, and the tale of two merwolves was written as part of a group.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

snowbaz, definitely. it’s been my longest-running OTP (do people still say OTP?) and i’ve written so any fics for it.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

hmm, i’ve only got 3 wips and i think i’ll finish them all eventually, but blow on the tinder and we are slaves to the gods are definitely on the back burner for now.

16. What are your writing strengths?

i’ve been told i’m good at writing dialogue, which is good because that’s two thirds of all the words i write.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

descriptions and anything sappy, which gives me second hand embarrassment.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i tend to shy away from it, but if i do i always put it in italics and will put a translation in the notes unless it’s super obvious, and like when other authors do the same.

Percy Jackson! I wrote so much solangelo and was actually pretty popular on wattpad, one of my fics broke a million hits which is still insane to me. i still get the occasional message asking me to come back and finish my fics, but i logged out of that account in 2018 and am not going back.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

oh, that’s hard. i’m really enjoying writing Shoulder To Shoulder right now, but i still love All That She Wants and Liar Liar. i also really love I’m On My Way To Believing, which is a greek mythology Pyrrhus/Hermione fic. they’re my blorbos. but i’d have to say my all-time favourite will always have to be the first carry on fic i ever wrote, which got me out of a years long writing slump: Rats.

F- What’s the longest you’ve been in a fandom?

Okay so, I’m going to out myself now as a potterhead lol the longest I’ve been active in a fandom is ~twelve years with Harry Potter from about 2002 until I climbed aboard the good ship Eruri (Attack on Titan) in 2014. I was then active in the AoT/SnK fandom for about five years before jumping over to the Detroit become Human fandom for two years and now I’m in The Clone Wars fandom since about 2019. My first ever fandom was Babylon 5 from around 1994 to 2002 so about eight years (which is decent, I think).

Tbh I don’t ever really leave a fandom I’ve been invested in and created content for. Even now, if I’m running low on daydream material, I’ll create silly crossovers with my fave characters from B5 or HP magically popping up in TCWs and interacting with my fave characters. Just because I’m not active active in a fandom anymore, doesn’t mean I’m not still a huge fan!

G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it?

Probably not a surprise but my first OTP was in the HP fandom but it took me a while to fix on it. First I had to realise who my fave characters were but when I’d worked that out it was simple as anything for me to ship them together. It is a Gryffindor/Slytherin ship and a m|m ship but possibly not one you’d expect because it’s a bit of a rarepair: Neville and Draco. I also shipped Snape and Malfoy Snr.

Then I shipped Erwin and Levi in Attack on Titan; Connor and Gavin in Detroit become Human; and now I ship Rex with anyone in The Clone Wars lol

H - Do you prefer characters from real action series or anime series?

Considering my main fandoms over the last many years, I’d go with anime/animated/motion capture series. Although, I have briefly dipped into other ships and fandoms which were real action: Kylo Ren and Armitage Hux from the Star Wars sequels; Thranduil and Bard from the Hobbit movies. So preference for anime but open to real action!

I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which ones?

Tumblr hasn’t turned me off of any fandoms but it has caused be to dislike certain ships within fandoms. Back when I first joined the AoT/SnK fandom, the ship wars were intense and it felt like you constantly needed to defend your ship against all the hate. I remember those days fondly now and can laugh about it but at the time it was full on battle mood lol.

I tend to write happy endings, but the road to get there can be Hella bumpy. In that sense, I think Gambit takes the angst-flavored cake. It’s a spinoff off my first ever DBH fic, Metamorph. Long story short, Gambit takes place after a peaceful revolution, Hank and Connor are partners (and now established as lovers, officially speaking), and Gavin decides to shoot Connor in the face, essentially blowing his face off. And then, just a little while later, Connor-52 arrives on the scene, expecting to investigate a crime involving a deviant…

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

As I said, about my fics having happy endings 🙂 But if I can choose one I love, it’d be Great Pretenders - an undercover fake couple, friends to lovers, only one bed type fic (although no sex in this one, they do share a steamy kiss for purposes of maintaining their cover. mwarharhar).

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Feels like I’m jinxing myself on this one, but I have been blissfully spared of hateful comments. At times weird comments, sure, but nothing outright negative. Maybe I haven’t been popular enough in the fandom to attract the attention of haters. I don’t know, but I’m glad for it.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I never used to write outright smut, out of a fear of getting hate (weird, I know), but since my comeback from fandom hiatus, I’ve been writing smut to the high heavens. M/m smut, customizable android genitalia smut, transmasc!Hank smut, genderfluid robo smut, dom Connor/sub Hank smut. I’m up for almost anything, really.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Not so much crossovers, but I do a lot of AUs, some of them inspired by other franchises and/or movies.

Nope.

Nope. Not that I know of.

Nope. But it might be fun. Maybe?

Not counting DBH or PoI, one of my longest standing OTPs have to be Kirk/Spock, very closely followed by Garak/Bashir, of Star Trek TOS and DS9, respectively.

I have come to appreciate that my funny bone isn’t so weird after all, and I should embrace the quirk. So, my ability to weave in humour into my fics. Sure helps when almost all my fics are angst-riddled monstrosities ;)

I am a chronic over-writer, imho. I can’t ever keep things brief and to the point, but I’m trying!

I'm multilingual. English isn’t my first language, but neither is German, French, Spanish or Latin, and I frequently use those as well if/when it fits a story.

Boop sharing a birthday gift I made for a bestie! This pairing is 10+ years old and still one of my favorites. We lovingly call them FlyWolf.

So, explanation: back in like 2011/2012 I was in a written role playing group— we each played a character and wrote what they did and they had to survive these tasks, it was a whole thing, but the theme was Marvel/DC crossover. Heroes stayed at the Xavier Institute and the Villains stayed in the Brotherhood House (I think). I played Logan Howlett/Wolverine, because I’ve loved him ever since I was a kid. He’s one of my favorite X-Men characters. Him and Rogue (not movie Rogue, though). And my friend played Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Well, we did some scenarios before the rp actually started and found we loved Logan and Kara as a couple. Kara’s nickname for Logan was “Wolf” and Logan called her “Fly Girl”. Kara didn’t know wolverines were a real animal 🤣

So, yeah, a decade old otp. One of the things we first really bonded over 🥰

Logan’s costume is based off the one from X-Men: Evolution and Kara’s is based off her look in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

I had been wanting to draw them for YEARS, but hated my art for the longest time. I never dreamed I would actually get this good! F- i think black widow fandom wins, easily. that fictional woman has had me in a chokehold for over a decade now. my black widow tumblr currently has over 10,000 (non-pornbot) followers, which is not bad for something i created just to rant about how much i love her.

G- ah, my first otp. now this is going to date me: when i was but a youth in the 90s, my parents used to sit us down for saturday night tv, family style. thus i was introduced to jane seymour’s physics-defying hair and impeccable jawline on a little thing called dr. quinn medicine woman, and she and her rugged mountain man boyfriend became my otp before i even knew what an otp was. (related: jane seymour is now in her 70s and i’d still gladly let her top the hell out of me.)

Y- a bunch, but i think the one i see the most is stranger things. i’ve seen bits and pieces of the show, but not enough to really say i’m in the fandom. thanks to my dash, i now know eddie munson is the second coming of christ and also apparently the fandom bicycle. seems like a lot of fun!

Best gift you’ve ever gotten: my husband sent me on a scavenger hut to get the new HP book. (back before we knew about Joann.) It was so cute and he put so much work in it.

Nicest thing anyone’s ever done for you: I try to notice lots of nice things people do and be grateful. I think sometimes just someone touching you and saying are you ok?

Your favourite holiday memory:  Parades make me cry. In a furiously happy way. IDK man. It happens. But our city has a big Thanksgiving day parade and we use to go all the time and just feeling safe to be myself enough with my family is always a good memory.

Where you want to go first once we can travel again: I don't get to travel much anyway, but I've always wanted to go to Eastern Europe.

Random talks about the Arg NT 🇦🇷 : part 2 - Football & KPop, when my 2 fandoms collide

This is another random Argie talk, but before I get to write about them, first I want to mention my other fandom (outside football), which is KPop, as a prologue.

Yesung from the KPop group Super Junior is my first KPop bias, when I first fell into KPop hole circa 2013 (though I never call myself ‘ELF’, am just a ‘Cloud’, a Yesung-fan). It’s only after I became Shinhwa fan (4 years later, back in 2017) that I ended up 'left' football fandom.

Quick introduction about Shinhwa, they are the longest KPop group that ever exists, the one with no members changing, and never disbanding either. One of the reasons I love them badly is because the bond between members. The way they get closer with each fight (the members fought a lot, and I talk about real fistfight), at the same time use excessive skinship method (kissing, hugging, cuddling, getting naked together, having a bath/poop/pee together) to strengthen the chemistry, and it's been like that since their debut, back in 1997-98. The chemistry which makes the 6 of them a really good pairing, either in a form of a duo (15 OTPs) or a trio (10 pairings consisting of 3 members).

In 2018 this group celebrated their 20th anniversary with packed schedules, that's the major reason I skipped World Cup (other than all my faves played badly; The Dutch didn't even qualify, Germany's early exit and Argentina made you question the coach 'Why???').

After World Cup ended, obviously I still didn't bother to watch football (club-wise, I'm a fan of United and Juve since 2003/2004) because Shinhwa took away all my free time, considering so many stories they've had within that 20++ years and I was obsessed to learn everything about them.

But in the midst of busy fangirling over Shinhwa, somehow, I managed to watch Copa America 2021 semifinal, although I couldn't recall anything about the match, or the players, but my old tweet reminded me that I did watch La Scaloneta unconsciously.

Fast forward to this Qatar World Cup, tbh I only started to watch La Albiceleste until they played against the Netherlands (I need a good night's sleep more than football, so mostly just watched the highlights), and when they advanced to semis I watched their Prime “Camina a Qatar” docu-series, and just like that I am trapped.

It's like, initially I came to see Di Maria (my love since 2008) but ended up stuck with the rest of them. And just like years ago when I ditched football for KPop, now it's the other way around.

Call me crazy but I can't help to feel/think La Scaloneta bears several similarities with Shinhwa.

The way the Scalo boys bonded thru truco games ((jackstones, in Shinhwa's case)), barbecues, drinking mate ((for Shinhwa it's soju or beer)), and using profanities as a way to show affection, not to forget Scalo boys also give kisses and hugs, being playful/cheesy to one another (both IRL and on their SNS), every players is shippable (OTP material, I say), their brutal honesty and willingness to protect and defend the team, Scalo boys just remind me of all the things I love from Shinhwa.

And tbh I don't think I've seen a football team/group like this before ((maybe in the good ol' days of Barcelona. I read my old diary, and there I wrote 'this team is like family, no selfish/individualistic players at all)). But a good thing like this sometimes, unfortunately, doesn't last long, no matter how sure we are that these boys will stay solid like this forever.

This, I learned the hard way from Shinhwa. Even with the 6 of them spending 20++ years together, I used to be so confident their friendship will be eternal, that nothing can break the members' bond, turns out I was wrong cuz time and situation changed it little by little.

(Until today the group Shinhwa is still not disbanded yet, but they've been on hiatus since the pandemic, and only came together twice during the event of their members' weddings.)

Now let's go back with La Scaloneta. The way I see it, it all started with a good internal relationship between players, coaches, and AFA's long-time staff. That positivity, combined with Scalo's ability as their coach, helped them to play well on the field and won some games. The victories then generated public support in which boosted players' morale, till they had 36 unbeaten games, and earned 3 major trophies in just 17 months.

Post World Cup, now they are superstars. All eyes are on them. Enzo already stirred something between him, Benfica fans, and Chelsea fans with his transfer rumor. Lautaro scores a goal for Inter and toxic people won't stop talking shit about him because of his performance in WC, all the while praising La Arana Alvarez. Then there's this growing public opinion about Macca being too good to play for 'small team' Brighton, Dibu too good for Villa, Moli Rodri should leave Atletico, etc.

My question, when there’s a thin line between ‘supporters’ and ‘haters’ since people are so easy to judge, and so quick to switch sides, will that stuff affect them?

Today they all can say it's a healthy competition among players about who gets to play and who stays on the bench. But will tomorrow they say the same too? Especially now they are separated for a while, focusing on their club with each of them pursuing different goals, will they keep the chemistry intact once they back to Ezeiza, or will they start to act more individually as time go by?

That's why the more I fangirl over them, the more I actually feel anxious about the future of Scalo boys (especially if/once Leo no longer there), simply because I want to enjoy this happiness for a bit longer since it's only fair cuz we’ve suffered for a long long time.

What’s your all-time favourite ship?

Heh, it’s AoKise <33333 i’ve never been ruined by a ship as much as Aoki had; after 3 years in the almost inactive KnB fandom, I’m still crying over these dorks everyday.

Ahh just a few. Only 17. 

What’s your total AO3 word count?

121,800 hehe. Woah. I’m amazed that I did write that much in 3 years.

What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Love at First Lie - AoKise college AU with side pairing IwaOi. Multi-chapter.

But Losers Never Weep - AoKise faling in love during the Teiko timeline up to their final year in high school. My longest One-shot.

Distance of the Falling Sun - AoKise angst with a happy ending in Teikou setting. It’s a gift fic for a dear friend of mine and is just as special to me as the friend I gifted it to.

I hear you through these walls - AoKise neighbors!AU. This is the first AU I’ve ever written as I am always inclined to write my ships in canon setting. As they say, there’s a first time for everything and so this happened! 

Where You Belong (I Know it’s With Me) - AoKiseKaga AU with meet-cute, love triangles and family shenanigans. It’s still ongoing and I still hold the plot dearly in my heart. I haven’t given up yet, someday, I’ll finish writing this.

Do you reply to comments, why or why not?

I do, always. I love getting comments and I wanted the commenter to know how happy I’ve been to receive kind words so I always try to message them back albeit I’m very slow in doing that.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Ooh. I haven’t written anything with an angsty ending, I want my ships to sail into happiness every single time. There’s one in my wips tho where there’s major character death, based off the movie If Only. But it’s too sad, I haven’t found the strength yet to write it all down.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I think that would be “But Losers Never Weep” where Kise gets all the happy ending he deserves and more.

Do you write crossovers?

Love at First Lie is my only crossover fic, between KnB and Haikyuu. I haven’t been very keen on writing crossovers because it takes a lot of work and in depth characterization I think. But I’m hoping to do one again in the near future. Characters from different fandoms meeting together is so fun in my head.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

There was one time, in FF.net, when I was 15, for my very first published fic. The commenter said that it was a shit ending because the OTP I had been writing about wasn’t end game. And I wouldn’t blame them tbh. I was a kid writing on a whim, the fic was so full plot holes and hideous grammar so yeah.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I have 2 smut fics in my wips ok? I haven’t posted nsfw fic ever because I feel very incapable... I think I haven’t reached that level yet where I get all very sensory and descriptive. But I’m welcoming the idea and have tried writing a bit of smut. Gimme more time and I’ll finish what I started.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Guess there wasn’t any fic of mine that was stolen, my writing’s not in the rob list-tier anyway.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Someone had left a comment and asked if they could translate one of my fics and I was flattered, I said yes, but I didn’t know if they ever got around to it.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nah. And I’m not sure if I ever want to... I’m very clingy with my ideas, tbvh, I’d rather work on a project alone. I guess it’s also because I’m a tunnel-visioned introvert by nature.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Oh. I think that would be “Starry Nights” series. I planned it as a three shot story but as time went by, the  ideas grew distant. Last year, someone messaged me on Instagram asking if I would ever write the next parts. I told them I’m not dismissing the possibility but it’ll take a while because I’ve been in a long-term block until now.

What are your writing strengths?

Characterizations and dialogues, I think. I find it easy to write dialogues. Based on the comments I receive, people say I’m good with characterization so I guess those are my assets.

What are your writing weaknesses?

English vocabulary and writing descriptions. Ah, you'll never know how much I drool over fics of writers with god-tier descriptions! This is why I don’t write smut because it requires very sensory writing and I’m not in that  level yet.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I’m okay with it, I think. It could make or break a fic but if the writer has the talent, I think they’ll do just fine. As for me though, I’d do it sparingly.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Final Fantasy VIII. It was my first love and will always be. I was smitten by Ashbear’s fics in FFN and that spurred me to write my own.

okay i mean, technically i have three on ao3. i wrote ONE fic for law & order svu and it’s an entirely irrelevant fic now because what i wrote about HAPPENED. but people still read it every now and then so i just leave it up. and i also wrote an epilogue fic for the netflix film juanita. i’m not in that fandom cuz that fandom doesn’t really exist but i watched the movie for a film class and i literally turned that fic in as my project for it (yes i got 100% yes go read the fic). so pretty much all i write for is beauty and the beast 2017, my beloved :)

fading memories is your dream, for SURE. 99% of my fics end in a very happy and fluffy way. the only ones that end angsty are my young adam fics, and that one is the Big Boy Prequal Fic that ends in a perfectly tragic way that should lead you right to the beginning of batb 2017. it’s all angst, man.

7. do you write crossovers?

no but i’m not against them! i think they can be fun :) emily and i have an ongoing crossover universe but we’ve never written any fics it just exists through our insane texts and incorrect quotes sjdksj

thankfully, no! the batb readers are all very kind and sweet!! (or at least the ones who read my fics lol)

hmmm. maybe i’m just optimistic but i feel like i’ll get to everything eventually. there’s one really long fic that i’ve written so many bits and pieces of but never just sat down and written it. mostly for technical plot reasons that i just don’t spend enough time trying to work out. OH! there’s that fic idea i got from that dream i had where it was modern au and adam had a little sister. SHOOT bro i do wanna write that. i wrote so much dialogue for it that next day but the wip itself is hardly anything :(

15. what are your writing strengths?

setting the scene and just painting the picture really nicely so you can see everything clearly. little details that make you feel like you’re watching it. i don’t know, character blocking? i think about what they’re doing a lot, with their hands or where they’re looking or whatever. also i think i’m pretty good at dialogue but that’s just cuz adam and belle are in my head all day long so i know their voices very well

16. what are your writing weaknesses?

conflict for sure. i’m too much of a fluffy writer!! i don’t like writing arguments or them getting mad at each other unless it’s stupid domestic stuff then it’s funny. i’m really good at writing the reconciling/making up lol but i seriously need to work on creating conflict. i just get too attached and i don’t like to see them fight even though i know everyone does and it’s a part of building the relationship >:( and even if it’s not adam and belle i just need to be better at writing it in general, for my oc’s and such. do it for the kids, lyd!

17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?

it’s very cool in the correct context!! i can’t do it really but hell yeah!! obviously with batb being in france i sometimes use french terms of endearment, mostly for lumiere lmao, but that’s about all i’m capable of! in my recent kiddos fic i tried out some familial titles like pépère for grandpa maurice and tata & oncle for auntie plumette and uncle lumiere <3 that was fun!

18. what was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

bbc sherlock babeyyyy. i used to hand-write sherlock childhood fic in a journal??? i didn’t even know what fic was i just liked giving him a backstory haha. i did the same for loki but in my phone notes app. i’m nothing in not a sucker for the sad and innocent childhood backstories of very sad men apparently!

19. what’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?

oh man this is so hard. i’m proud of a lot of my work! majesty of a different breed comes to mind honestly. it’s one of my longer ones and i just truly love how it turned out. i think my descriptors are so good and i capture adam and belle’s dynamic as a newly married couple really well, i think. and i give them a dog! how can you not have a good time reading that fic!

We've been friends many years but I've never thought to ask; Top 10 gay OTPs?

1.) Ian & Mickey (Gallavich) - Shameless us

What can I say about these two that we haven’t already said about them?! They are my absolute all-time favorite couple ever! Gay or straight. They perfectly complement each other, they love each other on a level I feel like I’ve never seen before (and I have watched a lot of tv/movies), they’re like a comedy duo, they support each other, understand each other better than anyone else ever will, they fell in love as kids, they bring out the best in each other, and they’re each other's best friend. I’m a sucker for opposites attract, who are also best friends. Gallavich really fits that bill. I wish they didn’t have to struggle so much to get their happiness, but I’m happy they finally got it. When they got married, it felt like the biggest victory ever! We went through those years of struggle with them, rooted for them, mourned for them when John Wells let Noel go after season 5. So much has tried to keep these two apart, even real-life circumstances tried to keep them apart. The chemistry between these two characters and between Cameron and Noel was so powerful, they were brought back to the show. That kind of thing doesn’t happen very often. When an actor leaves a show, they don’t usually come back as a series regular, let alone two actors who have already left the show. It felt like a miracle! I will never forget getting the news that Noel was coming back from you @luckyshazmrsmonaghansblog I was crying with happiness bc we wanted this for so long and I never believed we would get to see both Cameron and Noel back on the show. Or that they would get their happy ending outside of a jail cell. Especially after Cameron left the show in season 9. With their return we got a wedding, an entire season of them as a married couple, we got to see them dance with each other twice, we got them singing together, we got to see them start a lucrative business together, we got to see them free and happier than we’ve ever seen them before, and we got to see Terry get what he deserved after putting them through hell. We are only halfway through season 11, but I already feel so fulfilled with this extra time with gallavich that we were never supposed to have. JW tried to take that away from us. I will never understand why, but he failed. I am not surprised this is the one I wrote the most about. I can go on and on about gallavich!

2.) David and Patrick - Schitt’s Creek

This was everything I ever wanted to see onscreen, where there was zero homophobia. The pansexual character didn’t need to have a big coming out or tell everyone in the town of his sexual orientation, except his best friend. The gay character had a coming out with parents who loved and accepted him for who he is and was only upset that he felt he couldn’t tell them sooner. I dreamt of a day where I could see this kind of representation onscreen. The casual treatment of their sexuality was so refreshing and something I’ve been waiting for. There is no darkness or huge struggle they had to overcome to be together or a sad ending for them. They were allowed to be together without the major conflicts most LGBTQ characters have to go through. Once David made the first move Patrick was comfortable allowing himself to fall for David and start a relationship with him. He was so sure of his feelings for David after that first kiss, he never looked back and I loved that. They had such an adorable love story. Truly one I have been waiting to see for so long between two LGBTQ characters. They made me smile every time they were on screen. They are another of my OTPs that are exact opposites who complement each other perfectly. Patrick was welcomed into David’s family and blended in with them so well, even when he and David had very different upbringings. Patrick serenading David with Tina Turner and then Mariah Carey at their wedding is one of the most romantic things I have ever seen!

3.) Holt and Kevin - Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Captain Holt and Kevin are strange men on their own but together they are the perfect pair. They get each other in a way no one else does. The best part is their adorable fur baby, Cheddar! They seriously make the cutest family! I was so nervous when they went through a rough patch for a while because I didn’t want them to split up. Thankfully, they made it through and are still going strong!

4.) Will and Vince - Will & Grace

On the show's first run, Will and Vince were in a serious relationship and Vince was Will’s longest relationship on the show. They broke up a few times but were together by the series finale. The two reunite during the funeral of Will's father. There was a time jump on the series finale. Though I didn’t love everything about the last episode, I did love the fact that Will and Vince had been together for 20 years and raised a son together, who was conceived through in vitro fertilization with a surrogate. After the time jump, nearly twenty years later, their son goes to college and meets Grace's daughter, whom he would eventually marry. Though I wasn’t happy with the fact that Will and Grace didn’t stay close over the years, it did allow for their kids to one day meet, fall in love, and get married. I did like that outcome out of the finale. My family and I used to watch the original show, but we refused to accept or watch the 2017 revival because they completely changed everything from the original series finale. The second I found out they were changing everything; I knew I couldn’t watch it. They even wiped the existence of their kids from the first series finale. The revival was an attempt to cash in on the reboot craze and I wasn’t happy about that already, but even more so when they were going to break up one of my OTPs for easy money. Bobby Cannavale, who played Vince, has become even more famous since starring in Will & Grace. So, I already figured he wouldn’t be back for the show as a regular, but I know he did guest star. I won’t accept the revival and to me, Will and Vince stayed together, and their son married Grace’s daughter. THE END!

5.) Albert and Armand - The Birdcage

Miss Albert and Armand were the earliest gay couple I remember ever watching onscreen when I was eight years old. I have watched this movie more than I can count over the years. It is a family favorite that we quote often. Their son is planning to marry a girl whose father is in politics and is very conservative. They have to hide the fact that he has two gay fathers for one night, but everything goes awry, and comedy ensues. Nathan Lane and Robin Williams give a wonderful performance without resorting to using the stereotypes that are often used on gay characters, especially back then. It’s a classic!

6.) Stefon and Seth - Saturday Night Live

Okay, hear me out on this one! They’re not the most conventional OTPs on my list, but I really do love them so much! Stefon started doing a correspondent segment on Weekend Update on SNL. The first time Stefon came on, he flirted with Seth Meyers. The second he did I was like ooh they would make a cute couple! Stefon the wild party guy and Seth the serious news anchor. It was a match made in heaven for me. Before Seth Meyers left SNL to do Late Night with Seth Meyers, Bill Hader came back to play Stefon for Seth’s last episode. I didn’t expect what happened next to happen at all! They gave Seth and Stefon the ending that I haven’t even gotten from some actual scripted shows. I never expected Stefon and Seth to have this big ending, but I could not be happier that they did. I’m posting the link to the six-minute skit/ending and I hope it works. It’s worth watching. Though the video says it’s Stefon’s farewell it was really Seth’s farewell episode.

7.) Mr. Simmons and Peter - Hey Arnold!

Anyone who grew up watching this show already knew that Mr. Simmons, Arnold’s teacher, was probably gay. It was hinted at in the Thanksgiving episode. Arnold and Helga visit Mr. Simmons on Thanksgiving at his house and his family and “friend” Peter are there. Mr. Simmons mother says she didn’t know Peter was coming to dinner and Peter responds with the infamous line “There’s a lot of things you don’t know.” When Mr. Simmons mom tries to get him to take a woman friend to the ballet, he says he loves the ballet and Peter gives him a disapproving look and Mr. Simmons immediately declines. Those were enough hints for us fans to decide Peter was his boyfriend. Years later, the show's creator Craig Bartlett finally confirmed Mr. Simmons is gay and had them together in the 2017 Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie. It was so exciting to finally get the confirmation years later, even though I was already certain of it for many years. I was happy that the cartoon no longer had to settle with vague hints about it.

8.) Callie and Arizona - Grey’s Anatomy

I was very happy to see a lesbian couple on prime time tv and I really liked both characters. I was excited to root for them but sadly as most couples on this show, their relationship took a turn, and I wasn’t thrilled about it. I was disappointed that it came to an end. By then I was already getting tired of watching the show. It was starting to feel like a chore to watch it every week. I tried to stick it out because I don’t like to give up on shows in the middle of it, but I just couldn’t do it anymore. I’m glad I did though because the shocking events with Derek Shepard, is something I’m glad I wasn’t around for. Anyway, I heard things between Callie and Arizona got even worse, so I was even happier I left when I did.

9.) Sherwin and Jonathan - In a Heartbeat

This was one of the cutest things I have ever seen! I wish this got the full-length movie treatment instead of a short film. But it was still a step in the right direction for the LGBTQ community. Gay characters in cartoons always bring me such joy and that was the focus of this short. A boy with a crush on another boy with a cute ending. What is not to love?!

10.) Mitch and Cam - Modern Family

Another show I had to give up on in the middle of the series. The show began to be less funny and more annoying to me. Another reason, that really has nothing to do with the show itself, that used to annoy me was that this show repeatedly beat out Parks and Recreation during award season. Parks and Recreation is a superior show when compared to Modern Family. This show won almost every year for years and it got really annoying especially when the quality of the show started slipping and they kept winning. After a few years, they finally stopped winning all the time. But before all that, I was a fan of Cam and Mitch. They were a great couple who I loved watching on the show. They were the best part of the show most of the time. But sadly, my annoyance of the show no longer being as funny as it used to be, was enough for me to stop watching.

13, though I’m hoping to get to at least 14 by the end of the year. Also, I uploaded a handful of older fics that I then orphaned, so it should technically be a couple works higher.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

Great question (and this helps me get a jump on my end-of-year writing wrap-up LOL)!

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

Of extant works that are actually on my AO3, I’ve written for 4 fandoms: Labyrinth, Kingdom Hearts, Skip Beat!, and Sailor Moon. I’ve also technically written for Pirates of the Caribbean and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but no one needs to talk about those.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Mostly! If you say something that I just can’t even come up with a response to (or something that is borderline rude), then I won’t answer to preserve my own comfort, but in an ideal world, I try to answer all comments before posting a new chapter (this does not always happen).

I try to do this because I know how meaningful it was when I first started reviewing and having authors who I looked up to respond to my comments. Frankly, it encouraged me to comment more (which is a win all around, I think) and is also the reason I fell in with my group of fandom friends and ended up writing myself. So, if responding to comments might help connect some other people into the fandom, I’m all for it. Be warned, I’m also shy, so I don’t always promise the deepest engagement 😅

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Oh, that’s easy: ‘I Want’ Doesn’t Get.

It’s older and off-brand, but it’s horrifying, and no one really gets out of it unscathed. (Note: multiple content warnings, read at your own risk)

7. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Gotta be R is for Reverse. It’s fluffy and warm with implications of things continuing on and being just as happy.

8. Do you write crossovers? If yes, what’s the craziest thing you’ve written?

Just one! How I Met Your Goblin King is a very silly semi-crossover, but that’s the extent of it.

9. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I’ve received a handful of less-than-kind comments (e.g., this is boring, this was confusing) but definitely no hate. If I did receive any actual hate, I would probably stop writing for a bit while I processed, so…

10. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Uh… honestly not sure what you mean by “what kind” of smut. I do write smut, and it is… Educational and sex-positive smut, I guess?

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don’t think so! I’m weirdly paranoid about getting my FFN hacked and a new chapter leaked somewhere so I wait to upload them until just before posting LOL

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I know of!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

I have not; I might be open to it with a VERY FEW SELECT PEOPLE who I know and trust and feel confident I could collaborate well with, but for the most part I’m way too anxious and neurotic for anything like that.

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?

I have a handful of OTPs, but Usagi and Mamoru from Sailor Moon is probably the one I come back to the most.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I don’t have any!! I’m pretty good about holding off on sharing/posting any detail about a WIP idea until it will for sure be a reality and I usually keep my list of in-progress works pretty short.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think my general acerbic British dryness translates really well into humor in my fics. Rarely is it laugh-out-loud, but I like the tone that I am usually able to hit in my writing.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

This is perhaps getting into the too-personal, but as a human being, I struggle with bodily awareness. I’m bad at being aware of where my body is in space, as well as where feelings and emotions might show up in my (or my character’s) body. Fortunately, my beta is great about reminding me to include these, and honestly it’s starting to translate into a better bodily awareness in my actual life, so that’s a win-win.

18. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?

I don’t love it, for one very simple (and probably shallow) reason: I only speak English! It’s less annoying in fanfic, where I can easily run the offending bit of dialogue through an online translator, but it’s a pain in the neck when a book has characters suddenly inexplicably speak in French for a paragraph without them translating or paraphrasing the conversation. I don’t understand why authors do this, other than to show off that they know French. If it’s grounded in the story and the universe, or if it’s such common language to the universe or ours that it’s easy to understand or recognize (think: baka, Japanese honorifics, Odango atama), that’s one thing. But if you write a scene where Ami and Mamoru suddenly randomly speak to each other in Spanish, I’m going to be annoyed with you.

19. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, though thank god the site that I posted it on went down and I can pretend it never existed 😅

20. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

Definitely R is for Reverse. I’m just so stupidly proud of it, tbh. It was a major labor of love, a months-long obsession, and it came out so good.
