A look around Motherwell in Scotland - not an obvious tourist destination but let's see what there is to do! We enjoyed it a lot as a day out and hope to visit again soon to explore inside the things that were closed while we were there (it was a Sunday morning to be fair!) 😀 Enjoy! 😍

December 10th 1928 saw the death of the artist, architect and designer Charles Rennie MacKintosh.
Another subject that I have explored in numerous posts, I hope to give a wee bit more information on lesser known facts in today’s post.
Born at 70 Parson Street, Townhead, Glasgow, on 7 June 1868, the fourth of eleven children and second son of William McIntosh, a superintendent and chief clerk of the City of Glasgow Police, and his wife, Margaret Rennie. Mackintosh grew up in the Townhead and Dennistoun (Firpark Terrace) areas of Glasgow, and he attended Reid's Public School and the Allan Glen's Institution.
Mackintosh’s father was the superintendent of the police force in Glasgow, and when the young architect started work with a local architecture firm, his first commission was the creation of a gravestone for Alexander MacCall, chief of police, as seen in the pics.
Mackintosh had undiagnosed Dyslexia which sometimes caused problems at work and school It was not until his letters were analysed that it became clear that Mackintosh had trouble with reading and writing. His beautiful letters to and from his wife in the later years of his life demonstrate this – he had even been known to spell his own name in a variety of different way.
Charles and his wife, Margaret, were suspected spies in the First World War, and were investigated by the Foreign Office. By 1913, work in Glasgow was very difficult to get hold of, and the couple moved to Sussex. Charles’ ‘bizarre’ Glasgow accent, as well as their ‘artistic’ style of dressing and the fact that they sent and received so much correspondence abroad, meant that they became top suspects and had their house searched.
He died in obscurity, yet now his work sells for hundreds of thousands of pounds
In his correspondence to Margaret, Mackintosh used to write progressively smaller and smaller type in order to fit all the information on a single sheet of paper – the price of stamps and paper was almost too high. He begged friends in Scotland to buy his watercolours. Now, his work reaches high prices at auctions. Recently, two chairs for Kate Cranston’s home, sold for $470,000 (£362,000) at Sotheby’s New York.
His wife, Margaret was a brilliant artist in her own right. Mackintosh would probably have approved of finishing a post about him with a focus on his wife, muse and inspiration Margaret. She was adept at using a variety of materials, and was arguably the better-known and more successful of the two when they were alive. She and her sister Frances exhibited around Europe, although most of Frances’ work was destroyed by her broken-hearted husband, Herbert MacNair, when she died young. The Mackintoshes never had children, and Margaret’s work is frequently interpreted with this sorrow in mind.

The Beechgrove Garden episode 8 2017 #gardening #garden
We are a nation of houseplant givers and buyers but do we know how to care for them once home? Carole the houseplant doctor dispenses advice. On a similar theme, in the Beechgrove Garden, trying to keep our own house in order, Jim, George and Carole struggle to rescue some pot-bound camellias.
Jim is back visiting the inspirational Firpark School in Motherwell. Firpark has 150 pupils with a range…

Who Am I?
Above are some of my favourite shots for the ‘Significant Place’ part of our who are you brief.
I decided that my significant place was going to be Motherwell FC’s Football Stadium - Fir Park. This is because I have been going there since I was 7 to watch the team play.
I Photographed the East Stand Entrance, the street sign and the side of the Phil O’Donnell Stand and the tribute to him.
I shot in both black and white and colour, I personally prefer my black and white images as you are forced to look at the subject and are not distracted by and colour.

As sevco5088 prepare for their new season in the lower leagues , the whole of Scottish football thanks Motherwell for performing so well over the 2 legged playoff totally embarrassing sevco 6-1 on aggregate, they quite simply were never in the tie, as I sat there watching the game on Sunday as I had nothing better to do….
I was in the mood for some parasite bashing, there was no way that team were turning this game around and the first laugh for me came when Clammy Bell flapped at a deflected looping shot that ended up in the sevco net , the taunting the Motherwell fans were putting the sevco players through was funny too ….as was The fan who tried to poke McCulloch’s eye out with his brolly……..
Every time Motherwell scored it was another nail in the sevco coffin and it was all to Much for the blue army as they left in droves after the 3 rd goal, they would have missed the best bit of action from one of their players at the end of the game as moshni swivel kicked then punched Irwin UFC Glasgow style, is it not till the end of July that ppv but it had come early to fir park, the guys an animal and shouldn’t be allowed to play again , it’s what you come to expect from sevco players…
Good thing is we’ve been saved from their presence next season , thing is I don’t see them ever getting back up , Hibs will be even more determined next season to win the title and return so it could be another playoff or worse ,something tells me the long-awaited return of the tribute act is going to be put on hold for a very long time, sfa supremos Doncaster and Reagan must have been furious on sunday because they were so sure the loyalist figurehead was going to be playing in the premiership next season…
Justice comes in many forms and this is the first piece of justice we have witnessed since they were banished to div 3 ,nothing warms the heart more than the site of an away end like a morgue ,the sevco faithful have to be getting the picture by now, you’re not wanted your teams not wanted ,this up coming season could really break them I think ,the cash cow Mike Ashley may call time on his investment and claim back his 5 million,he would be wise to do so or risk losing it all, because I think there on the road to administration and liquidation again…
Dave King promises big things investment etc but he’s done nothing ,he’s another charlatan just like Charles Green and Craig Whyte a bleeder ,another man with false promises bleeding them dry….Motherwell did them a favour ,if that’s what they can do to them then what about Celtic or Aberdeen or Dundee utd, you’d think after nearly 4 yrs of humiliation they would have just given up,il give them credit for their stubbornness….
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
With the old guard leaving this summer messers,Boyd,Miller, and McCulloch along with a few others the bare bones of that team will barely survive in the championship, instead of looking up they may need to avoid going the opposite way,we can celebrate our 4 in a row in the knowledge our club is strong our business plan is solid,we have good people running the club ,Rangers died in 2012 in Celtics shadow sevco5088 havent even got to that height yet,and you know I doubt they ever will….hh
Sevco Prepare For Another Run In The Championship........ As sevco5088 prepare for their new season in the lower leagues , the whole of Scottish football thanks Motherwell for performing so well over the 2 legged playoff totally embarrassing sevco 6-1 on aggregate, they quite simply were never in the tie, as I sat there watching the game on Sunday as I had nothing better to do....
