First fire update in a while, it was April 2021 the last time I did a full proper fire update rather than my regular monthly goal updates. There were a few changes over the year including buying a place to live which is very valuable for me and us for the future as a place to live without paying rent. With this and a few other things my investment portfolio is definitely lower than I would prefer as my main vehicle towards financial independence, but I'm comfortable in really building that back up faster and better than before. In my experience in FIRE journey is kind of intimidating yet exciting in a way that I would never expect that I will hook up on this stuff. Like what I mentioned in my blog, I started last September 2021 when I just got regularized in my first job. Way back then, I do know little about saving up and frugal living but not in the advanced way of thinking. Then one day, I came across a specific blogger that changed the way I think about money. She recommend the book "Rich Dad and Poor Dad" then I start to read a simple book then BAM! All of my unrealized interest in reading books, personal finance and self development hobbies emerge like magic. It continuously grow after a few months of research best deals.

For me being free to do whatever I want to. To work in a fulfing work I want. To be honest I hate waking up early in the morning I'm not a morning person so I need to have a motivation to get up early every morning, prepare for my breakfast and to commute in public transportation. I hate to socialize and being friendly to those person that micromanaging every thing I do that's why I keep looking for a work that promote healthy environment and work life balance. I want to do things that excites me the most like writing a journal, reading a books about business, finance, career development and self care. I love to do some art work, drawing and online designs for fun. I want to explore also about fashion and take a pictures of it and the nature. I would love to travel to the different places I want to without ever worrying about unfinished business or workloads. I love to travel with my partner and family and enjoy most of our life. To discover this FIRE movement last year, takes a great leap in my life. I think I found my new version of myself with a purpose of moving and creating that life I want. Being financially free takes a lot of courage to start, great amount of discipline and consistency to keep moving forward because in the end of the journey I would.

Graph of my savings rates over 2020! I ended up with a total savings rate of 39%. Not bad. I was aiming for 50% but a few large expenses got in the way. Super happy with the massive savings rate in April. June copped a big negative savings rate due to my personal training course. But hopefully that will lead to bigger and better savings rates in the years to come. My yearly expenses for 2020! Some areas are a lot higher than expected! Next year one of my goals is to live on a maximum of $30,000, including rent and all expenses. To allow me to retire early, following the 4% safe withdrawal rate, I'll need to grow my investment portfolio to $750,000. It may seem extremely high, but good saving coupled with safe investments will get me there in hopefully 14 years from my current standing (40 years old). To see how this lifestyle will be, I'm going to try to spend less than $30k (and of course, if I only spend 23-35k, then my overall figure needed will be much less) - so it's not about how much you earn, it's about how much you can save and still live an awesome life. $30,000 a year allows a monthly spending of $2,500. In a few weeks I'll be able to calculate my total spending for the year (hopefully I'm fairly close to that). I'll still tracking my spending and my savings rate, but less focused on a savings rate number next year, more on total spending. Ah, didn't manage to reach my goal of 50% this month, a lot of large expenses. Need to work hard this month to finish strong. Although doing some calculations, even if I saved 100% in November and December, I still wouldn't reach my goal of 50% in 2020. Oh well, something to work on harder next year. Overview of my income and expenses throughout 2020 so far. Big spike in income was the magical month of just getting paid 3x rather than 2, big expenses were fitness course and tax payment. Unsure of my year to date savings rate, but in July I was at around 52% excluding the large expenses. About 38% including. Still working on saving 50% in total by end of the year. Going to need a few months of solid saving to meet it though. Tracking your expenses is by far one of the best ways to really get in control of your money and spending. My number 1 tip. Once you transfer that amount, it's a guaranteed savings rate. This is how I normally save 50% every month. Just be sure to leave a small buffer for emergencies.
