In case you haven't heard, I started a new fanfic on AO3. It's a WIP. The first 5 chapters are posted. More to come in two weeks. (or less.) A wee peek below ⬇️ (Readers can attest. Nothing is what it seems in this story.)
"I Love Her First"
In a small three block radius in Glasgow, Scotland, Claire owns a flower shop and Jamie is a firefighter. Claire and Jamie are best friends and roommates. Claire is in a relationship with Frank. Jamie is happily single. Claire and Jamie's friendship is different than most, but it works for them. When things progress with her and Frank, Jamie has to admit to his real feelings before it's too late.
Chapter 1 "The Firefighter"
I set both slow cookers to low. It will be ready before dinner break with plenty of time to spare. I can see everything from the top floor of the firehouse. The sun is well over the horizon. The shops are open, and a few people meander along the street. Howie, Mr. Johnson’s son, parks in the fire lane in front of his father’s shop. He has been warned a dozen times for that. Agnes across the street waters her flower boxes. She lets them overflow while she waits to catch a glimpse of Mr. Johnson. Her neighbor will complain about the puddles on the sidewalk. It’s a very quiet and predictable neighborhood. Quiet is good and it has been all night. The rest of my crew are sleeping. I have an hour before dayshift shows up. I make myself comfortable on the couch and flip through the channels. My phone buzzes next to me. I tap on the screen. My roommate.
Claire: Sorry I used the last of the milk for my coffee. Could you maybe pick some up on your way home. Please. You know I hate shopping for food. Also Frank is picking me up at the shop for an early dinner before he leaves.
Jamie: I will pick up milk and anything else we need. Send me a list. Have fun with Frank.
Have fun with Frank. Frank and fun do not belong in the same sentence. She loves him. And she’s my best friend and roommate so of course I need to be supportive. Frank and Claire have been together since our final year at Uni. Frank is older. She met him at a party. Ironically the one party Claire went without me. I was on a date. If I was there, things would have played out differently. I would have steered Claire away from Frank. It’s not that I don’t like him. Not at all. He’s fine. He’s just Frank. She can do much better.
Claire: You’re the best. See you later.
Hm. I drop the phone next to me and find a mindless show to pass the time.
I must have dozed off because before I know it I hear the banging of the lockers downstairs. “Jamie, my boy. You’ve done it again. Smells incredible. What is it?” Dougal, the fire chief, deep voice echoes in the quiet lounge.
“My Ma’s beef stew. I may have tweaked the recipe. Threw in some extra spices.” I stretch and look at my watch. “In 7 hours turn the knob to ‘keep warm’. You’ll be all set to eat.”
He searches the counter. “Did you make the biscuits too?”
“Aye. They’re in the fridge with instructions.”
“Ah you’ve done good, kid. Now get out of here.” He pats me on the back. I take one step towards the door and the alarm blasts. Dougal rushes to his office. I follow him and lean against the door frame.
He looks up from the screen. “Fire at Sullivans Bakery. We got this. Go.”
“You sure?”
“Go. You need your sleep.” He waves me off. I grab my things and run down the back stairs to stay out of the way. The sirens blare loud enough to alert the whole neighborhood and surrounding ones too. I head in the direction of the flat that Claire and I have shared for the past four years. It’s three blocks from the firehouse. I stop at the corner store to pick up milk and a few other things. My phone buzzes. Another text from Claire reminding me to feed DB. Our cat. Claire named him David Beckham. I quickly shortened it to DB. I climb the stairs to our top floor flat and open the door. Immediately I feel stifled. Claire likes it a balmy 74 degrees year-round. I on the other hand prefer it frigid. I lower the temp and climb into bed with the tv remote..
Hours later, I wake to the sound of my alarm. The remote sits on the bed next to me. I was asleep before I even had a chance to watch the morning news. The tv hums quietly on the wall across from me. I scroll through the channels. Station after station no mention of the early morning fire at the bakery. It’s in the other direction of Claire’s flower shop so no worries there. I pick up my phone. A bunch of missed texts. Claire sent me a picture of a flower arrangement. She does that when she’s particularly proud of one. A text from Rupert going into great detail about the fire this morning. Electrical. Everyone is safe. That’s the important part. Another text from Chloe canceling our plans for tonight. Time to get up. I shower, throw on a t-shirt and gym shorts. DB naps comfortably on the windowsill. I order a pizza. Half pepperoni. Half plain.
I settle on the couch with the pizza on the coffee table and beer in my hand. The doorknob wiggles. Claire. She always has trouble with the lock. I hear voices. She didn’t bring Frank here, did she? She wouldn’t do that. Not since last time and that disaster. She pushes the door open and quickly closes it. She’s alone. I can relax.
She whispers, “Mrs. Cook is such a talker. I lied and said I wasn’t feeling well to get away.” She looks at the pizza then back to me. “Why are you here?”
“Pfft. Hello to you too, Claire.” I take a swig of beer and take in her outfit for the first time. Sleeveless, tight black dress emphasizing her generous curves, bare legs. I quickly focus on something else before she catches me.
She throws her bag on the counter. “Tsk. You’re cranky.”
“My date canceled.”
“What was her name again?”
I grunt. “Chloe.”
“Aw. Why did she cancel?” She sits next to me on the couch.
“She didn’t say. It was a second date. No big deal. I wasn’t that into her.”
“That’s right. She was the low talker. Played with her hair too much.”
“Mm hm.” I reach forward to take another slice of pepperoni and offer her a slice of plain. She takes it happily. Her tongue moistens her lips after the first bite. She groans and leans forward to see the top of the box. Her dress rides a little higher. Now I’m licking my lips. She hums, “Antonio’s. You went all out tonight.”
She settles in next to me. We sit shoulder to shoulder. “How’s Frank?” I ask because I should.
“Frank. He’s good.” She takes a bite and snuggles closer. I glance at the goosebumps on her thighs. The air is too cold. That will be the next thing she says. “What’s the temperature in here?”
“Don’t you worry about that.” I mumble and close the pizza box. I stretch my legs out on the coffee table, and she does the same. I follow the lines of her long legs. “Frank was ok with you wearing those?” I point to her strappy black stilettos.
“No. Of course he wasn’t. I was eyeball to eyeball with him. I might have been even a little taller. Whatever. They look cute with the dress.”
“Mm hm.” I agree and laugh at something on tv.
“Oh shit. I just remembered what I wanted to tell you!” She grabs my forearm. “Frank wants to get a tattoo. Can you believe it?”
“Uh no. Frank. Christ no. What and where?”
“The symbol for doctors. Whatever they call that…on his bicep. He’ll never go through with it.” She shrugs. “It’s a pity. I do think they’re sexy.”
“You do?”
“Oh yea. Major turn on.”
“Really? Do you think I should get one?”
She twists her body to face mine. “Hm. I think one right here would be hot.” She places her hand on my left pec and squeezes. “Your fire station number or truck. Flames. Or…” She traces a design with her fingertip. I grab her wrist and kiss the inside.
Her breath catches. “Jamie.”
“Claire.” I hold her gaze.
“What are you thinking?” She bats her lashes.
“I’m thinking my date cancelled. Frank’s gone. It’s still early.  I thought maybe we could…” I waggle my eyebrows.
She holds back a smile. “I mean we’ve already seen all the latest releases on Netflix.”
“True. And you’ve been stressed with work and such.” I toy with the hem of her skirt.
“It does relax me. Will you go down on me?”
“Aye. If you like…” My cock twitches.
“I like.” She giggles. I stretch my neck and ask for her mouth. She holds up her finger. “Ah ah. You know the rules. No kissing.”
“Claire.” She has all these stupid rules. No kissing. No sleeping in the same bed. Not during the day. She used to make me shut the lights too. I got that one overturned. I want to see her.
“Jamie.” She gives me a stern look.
“Fine. Take your panties off.”
She stands before me and raises her dress. Tiny black lace panties. A scrap of fabric. A thrill runs through me knowing Frank hadn’t a clue what his lass had on under her dress. But I do. Fuck I do. I salivate knowing what comes next. She pushes them over her hips. I slide to the floor and rest my head back on the cushions.
“Sit on my face, Claire.” My voice is hoarse with desire. She straddles me and lowers her body until she meets my mouth. I have the best view in Glasgow. No. The world. She holds onto the back of the couch and rides my face. I’m relentless. I want her to come and quick because I’m aching for my turn. I clasp onto her hips and double my efforts. She calls out. Nothing incoherent either. She’s very clear. My name followed by instructions. It’s a major turn on. I don’t care if the whole building can hear us. Yeah our neighbors suspect something. Frank doesn’t. That’s all the matters. Because if he found out I fuck his girlfriend, she would end this. And that cannot happen.
“Oh God, Jamie. Yes. Yes. Don’t stop.” She holds my head in place as she comes all over my chin. I lick up every last drop. She moans. “Christ. You’re so good at that….”
I pant, “Get down here and ride me.”
“Don’t you want me to return the favor?” She moistens her lips. I’m tempted. Very tempted.
“Next time. You’re tight and soaking wet. I want to be in you.” I push my gym shorts down. My cock springs free. “Get on.”
She raises her eyebrows. “Condom.” I open the coffee table drawer and she takes one out of the small box hidden in the back. We learned a long time ago to keep them close by. She rips the wrapper off with her teeth and covers my cock. She lowers herself down taking me whole. My head rolls back. I pull her dress off and undo her bra. She likes to stay covered. I’m not having it. I like her breasts bouncing in my face.
"Did you feed remember to feed DB?" She changes her angle. Christ.
I grunt. "Yes. I fed him."
"I'm worried about him. He's moving slower than normal." She pants as she picks up the pace.
"He seems fine to me."
“Jamie.”
“What?”
“I’m going to come again.” She bucks her hips furiously.
“Ok, so?”
“I didn’t want to catch you off guard. Then you’ll get excited and it will end too soon. You hate that.” She never stops riding me. We’ve gotten very good at having full conversations while fucking.
“I do. But contrary to what you think, I do know when you’re close. There’s no catching me off guard.”
“You know?”
“Aye. Your walls squeeze my cock so tight sometimes I think you are going to break it off.” I smirk. “There’s other signs too.”
“Like what?”
Careful. “Other stuff.”
“Tell me.”
“You make noises.” And your face has the sweetest, sexiest expression sometimes I think about it when I’m not with you, and I get hard.
“I do not.” She pouts. It’s too cute. I lift her up and slam her down. My balls are getting tight.
“Oh aye. And loud too.”
“Do I feel like I’m close now?”
“No. But I can make you.” I bite my lip and sit up straight until her legs spread wider. I take her nipple in my mouth and suck hard. She whimpers and her head rolls back. That’s it. There we go.
“Oh Jamie. Yes.”
“You’re tight and very close. Ride me and we’ll come together.” And she does. My balls ache. She’s going to have rug burn at this rate. “That’s it, lass.”
She frowns.
“I mean, Claire.” I give her a tight smile. She laughs. It does something. It vibrates through her. Through me. There we go. Her mouth pops open. I’m tempted to kiss her. As I always am. It doesn’t mean anything. It’s only natural. I slam her down one last time. We both call out. I can almost hear our neighbors cursing us out.
I rest my head on her shoulder while we catch our breath. She goes to pull away. I bite her. “Jamie! Let go.”
I release my grip. She stands and walks away still wearing her stilettos. I watch from the living room floor. She’s right. It’s never long enough and I hate it. She tosses me a box of tissues and a water bottle before she enters her bedroom. Minutes later I hear her shower running. I would join her if this was more than sex but it’s not.

Unpopular opinion: I dont like chief Ross at all and I dont think she is a good chief or person.
She showed clear favouritism towards Sullivan in s5 by promoting him immediately and then him being first choice for interim captain. When maya figured out they were together told beckett to punish maya and torture her from the inside to keep her quiet abt her secret affair and just sitting back and watching it happen while continuing this secret affair I'm not defending the blackmail obviously she should be punished but ross could easily have dealt with maya professionally? Like write her up, caution her or just talk to her? Its just cruel to make her life a living hell. Becketts bullying which she encouraged led to maya's injury which happened at the station and firefighters getting injured in their own station is concerning enough nevermind them almost dying and then being forced into a psych hold by their partner then mandated therepy by the department and ross didnt even bother to check in with her. As the chief surely she has a duty to and the team that claims to be a "family" did nothing either.
She ignored multiple members of the team when they came to her with their concerns abt beckett. She knew he had been drinking on the job and let him off as he knew her dirty secret and proceeded to do nothing after he still showed his incompetence. Her not holding beckett accountable for his past mistakes actually led to his breakdown aswell. If he had been stripped of captain before the explosion in training then he might not have spiralled the way he did. Then when she was found out she played the victim. Its understable she would want a relationship aswell as a successful career I'm sure most people want that but what she put others through in order to get that? I can just never respect that.

Previous Part Here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Age Rating: 12+
Chapters: Three of Four
Fandom: Grey’s Anatomy/Station 19
Fancast: AJ Cook as Mia Knight, Matthew Gray Gubler as Spencer Knight
Ship: Maya Bishop x Carina DeLuca
Summary: Andy and Vic share the picture with Station 19 who all agree there’s a resemblance causing Maya to get annoyed. Meanwhile Andrew and Carina talk after the C-Section.
Words: 1131
June 6, 2023
“That is freaky.” Travis says with a shocked expression after Vic showed him the picture she took of Maya and Mia.
Vic laughs as she leans over the beanery counter with Sean Beckett and Robert Sullivan next to her eating their lunches. Jack is also there on his break at Vic’s insistence getting a water bottle from the fridge. She showed the male firefighters and dispatcher the picture and they also agreed with Vic about Mia Knight looking so much like Maya who is also in the beanery drinking a protein shake with an amused face.
“We don’t look that much alike.” Maya repeats to the men who look at her baffled, “We don’t! If you look up close, she has a few more wrinkles than me, her face is sharper and her lips are thinner.”
“Also, she doesn’t have the butt chin.” Jack points out causing Maya to scoff.
“It’s a cleft chin call it that please and it’s one of the many differences between us that I can see and you all can’t. Even my wife can see it.”
Andy chuckles entering the beanery with a smile, “Well she loves you and she’s your wife so it’s her job to make sure you know you’re the only you there is in the world.”
Jack grins at his girlfriend, “So you would be the same if you met a guy who looked like me on the job?”
Andy grins at Jack, “I don’t think I would, nobody has that goofy smile and dopey eyes like you Gibson.”
Jack smiles at that, “You like my goofy smile and dopey eyes.”
Andy smiles, “Yes I do and I know nobody else can pull it off like you.”
Vic groans at the constant flirting between the recently rekindled couple, “We get it you two are in love please save it for after I leave so I don’t barf.”
Travis asks, “What does Maya 2.0 do? Does she run into fires or make everyone feel body shame?”
Andy turns away from Jack to continue the conversation, “She’s a runner she ran track.” Travis shrugs as he figured, “But she’s not a first responder she’s a lobbyist. In short, she’s a political genius who uses suave and charm to get her way.”
“Oh Bishop is right then they're not the same.” Beckett quips causing Sullivan and Travis to chuckle, “I once saw a guy at the grocery store who I swear looked just like me, those things can happen it doesn’t mean their a clone or a twin.”
“I think you’re talking about doppelgangers.”
Vic raises an eyebrow at Travis’s term, “Like The Vampire Diaries?”
Travis grins, “No it’s not a supernatural thing.”
“It seems pretty supernatural to me.” Andy chips in.
“It’s not, doppelgangers are biologically unrelated doubles, we see it all the time in celebrities and historical figures it can happen to us common folks.” He looks at Maya who looks unconvinced, “Your doppelganger as it turns out is a lobbyist from Los Angeles married to a physics nerd with three kids. Isn’t it kind of fun knowing what your double does in her average day as you live yours?”
Maya sighs, “…Assuming she is my doppelganger which she isn’t I guess it was kind of interesting.”
“I wonder what my doppelganger is doing right now?” Vic wonders in amusement, “I bet she’s a graphic designer who delivers fresh water to people in Africa and breaking gorgeous hearts left and right, that’s the dream I have.”
Andy joins in, “Mine is probably a special ops leader with mad sniping skills and badass tattoo’s she does herself up and down her arms.”
“My not related twin is at one of his million-dollar mansions he bought with his parent’s infinity pool.” Jack says with Andy grinning, “He’s probably floating in his large pool, drinking a pina colada out of a coconut and scouring the internet for antiques he’s impulsively buying.”
“Mine is probably straight.” Travis jokes, “With a 300-pound wife and 14 kids.”
Vic smiles at the image, “Now I would pay to see that.” The team chuckles with Vic while Maya grins enjoying the last days she and the team have together before Vic moves.
Four Hours Later
After successfully completing the C-Section Carina and Andrew watch from the nurse’s station into Mia’s room where they can see her lying in bed with her youngest son Phoenix. Her oldest Henry is standing by her side while Spencer holds their baby boy in his arms next to her. Amber is inside monitoring her and smiling at the baby in his arms but not getting distracted from her duties. Amber looks at the brother sister duo through the window and nods her head indicating things are good so far to their relief.
“I will give you two this, you gave that woman a day she will never forget.” Carina quips to Andrew who grins, “So whose idea was it to bring my wife here to meet my patient?”
“It was both of ours, I called, and Amber gave us visual, it was a team effort.”
“And what was the goal?”
“Well, the goal was to show you we were not insane and that you were wrong in saying she looks nothing like Maya. I mean come on you saw those two in the same room, can you honestly say there is nothing freaky going on here?”
Carina sighs and looks at Mia for a moment before shaking her head, “No I don’t see it.”
Andrew groans annoyed, “You are just being stubborn, how can you not see it?”
Carina smiles and explains, “Andrea there is no one like Maya Kathleen DeLuca-Bishop, no one.” Carina says in a loving way regarding her wife, “Can you say there is one person out there who is like Amber Stevie DeLuca?”
Andrew looks back at his wife through the window and sees her charting Mia’s vitals not noticing his gazing. He smirks knowing there is nobody as beautiful, smart, tough and opinionated as the woman he loves. There is no one out there who can spend the day scolding residents when they deserve it and still come home and shower their daughter with the love Amber never had growing up. It still boggles him that someone like her could fall for someone like him and still not see the effect she has on him after all these years.
He turns to Carina with a smile, “Fair enough.”
Carina nods, “Exactly so your plan failed. I’m always right and your always wrong.”
Andrew shakes his head annoyed at the smug grin Carina has, “There’s always next time.”
“You can’t change fate bambino.” Carina tells Andrew in pride and walks away from him confidently and he chuckles at her.

705 had the best action sequence in recent seasons. I love callbacks to the skyscraper fire and storage facility fire. Rewatching those scenes also reminded me of how different the show has become. It had more variety, and humor - even in tragedy. It was more character-driven, and had a better focus on team camaraderie and friendships - Dean/Jack, Maya/Andy and Vic/Travis ...
After Dean's passing, they really don't know what to do with Jack. Vic and Travis haven't had many substantial scenes. Maya and Andy were sort of besties in name only. There was a shift to focus more on captaincy race, SFD politics and darker issues w/o the necessary levity for balance. Let alone any breathing space for them to just hang out together. The inter-personal dynamics became more isolated and the characters became more one-dimensional to shoehorn the stories to serve the overall plots.
705 showed 5 women as impactful and effective first responders. Ross commanding the scene as chief; Andy directing the rescue efforts; Maya leading and supporting from her position; Vic taking control of a claustrophobic rescue situation giving first aid n emotional guidance; Carina providing improvised professional medical care for accident victims on site.
I wish there was more follow-thru on the complexities of the characters sprinkled thru out the seasons... that the show had been more about friendships, esp female friendships and not rivalry... that they didn't make it a zero-sum game but allowed both Maya and Andy to thrive cos they are both leaders in their own way.
I wish Maya, Vic and Andy still hung out, even when their friendship evolved and Carina had joined them in their shenanigans before all she thought about was babies... that Carina hadn't just thought about and talked about babies.
I wish they hadn't structured the narrative to have a female chief put down a fellow female firefighter cos of a man.
Rewatching also reminded me of how good, just n meticulous Ripley was as a chief. I can't get behind the way they are framing Ross as the best chief of Seattle, almost like just cos she's a woman. As a woman, she could have been more empathetic towards the sexism women faced n even if she didn't lift them up, at least don't push them down. She toed the line n was part of the system until it didn't serve her. Only then she called out sexism when she was caught red-handed at breaking the rules she claimed was of the upmost importance to uphold no matter what, as a good soldier.
The way Maya broke the rules to save a dying kid, accepted demotion to keep 19 together, but got buried for supporting BLM, was not giving a proper hearing, even when she was a good captain. She got no support from the team and was basically told to suck it up. The way Ross broke the rules to have a sexual relationship with an ex she promoted, but the whole team was in full support of her, cos "love is love", and one had to do what it took to be whole human beings...?
After being biased against Maya, and giving Beckett the benefit of the doubt despite the rumors of his almost-demotions. Ross respected him, give him many chances despite his poor attitude n performance n complaints against him...
In a way, Ross and Sullivan giving Beckett empathy w/o holding him accountable enabled his addiction and spiral. Also, both holding Maya accountable w/o empathy led to her mental and physical breakdown. They should have facilitated Beckett's therapy, not Maya's abuse.
Addiction can be substance-based or behavioral. Beckett was never sober b4 704. Maya's bottle was not the sole reason for his drinking. Drinking was his coping mechanism (n apparently bullying too). Maya coped with physical assertion, like how she pushed herself to her limits under Lane's abuse.
Ultimately what they did or didn't do reflect on who they were as people. They all made mistakes. Only Maya truly owned up and made amends. The way Ross didn't trust Maya when she handed her the photo mirrored Beckett's distrust. I interpreted it as from Ross's perspective, she would have an angle using the photo for her adv if she were Maya, so she questioned if Maya did. Beckett did not trust Maya cos he knew the team did not trust him as captain having not gained respect or trust. In part also maybe due to their guilty conscience of what they did to Maya and ashamed of their own abuse of power? Possibly as subtle subtext?
When Ross wanted both her job and her relationship and was afraid that Sullivan would make her play small cos in her careers men had made her feel small n saw her as a chess piece. Yet, she, together with the men, saw Maya as a chess piece n made her feel so small...

FIRST SUCCESSFUL FEMALE STANDUP COMEDIAN
Loretta Mary Aiken (March 19, 1897 – May 23, 1975), known by her stage name Jackie "Moms" Mabley, was the first successful female standup comedian and had a career that spanned over 50 years. Moms bridged the gap between vaudeville and modern stand up comedy. She was also the first woman comic to be feature at the Apollo theater and Carnegie Hall in 1962.
Moms Mabley was born Loretta Mary Aiken in Brevard, North Carolina, to a large family. She experienced a horrifying, traumatic childhood. Her firefighter father was killed in an explosion when she was 11 and her mother was later hit and killed by a truck on Christmas Day. By the time she was fifteen she had borne two children resulting from sexual assaults: the first by a neighbour when she was twelve, and the second, two years later by a local sheriff. Her stepfather, who had remained her guardian, gave both children up for adoption and then forced Moms to marry a much older man who she despised.
Aiken left home at the age of 14 and pursued a show business career, joining the African-American vaudeville circuit(aka Chitlin' Circuit)as a comedian under the Theatre Owners Booking Association, Fellow performer Jack Mabley became her boyfriend for a short time, and she took on his name, becoming Jackie Mabley, with "Moms" coming from her eventual reputation as a mentoring, mothering spirit.
Moms saw an opportunity to try out her own voice, and discovered that she was a natural at singing, dancing and telling a joke. Especially telling a joke. She realized she had something that many of her contemporaries didn’t - original material. Since her sheltered life had hampered any introduction to current comedy routines, Moms inevitably began to craft authentic pieces based on her own experiences, much of it based on Granny’s pearls of wisdom.
Moms talked to her audience as if they were her children. She delivered superbly solemn routines, original in their time yet amazingly, never bettered. As soon as Moms delivered her opening line “I 'gots' something to tell you...” she immediately captured the attention of everyone in the room - and those rooms were full for over fifty years.
By the early 1920s she had begun to work with the duo Butterbeans & Susie, and eventually became an attraction at the Cotton Club. Mabley entered the world of film and stage as well, working with writer Zora Neale Hurston on the 1931 Broadway show "Fast and Furious: A Colored Revue in 37 Scenes" and taking on a featured role in Paul Robeson's "Emperor Jones" (1933).
Starting in the late 1930s, Mabley became the first woman comedian to be featured at the Apollo, going on to appear on the theater's stage more times than any other performer. She returned to the big screen as well with "The Big Timers" (1945), "Boarding House Blues" (1948), and the musical revue "Killer Diller" (1948), which featured Nat King Cole and Butterfly McQueen.
By the late 1950s Moms Mabley was one of the highest-paid comics in the US, making $10,000 a week. Mabley's standup routines were riotous affairs augmented by the aesthetic she presented as being an older, housedress-clad figure who provided sly commentary on racial bigotry to African-American audiences. Her jokes also pointed towards a lusty zest for younger men.
Mabley began a recording career with her Chess Records debut album "The Funniest Woman Alive," which became gold-certified. Subsequent albums like "Moms Mabley at the Playboy Club," "Moms Mabley at the UN" and "Young Men, Si - Old Men, No" continued to broaden Mabley's reach (she ultimately recorded many albums). She landed spots on some of the top variety shows of the day, including "The Ed Sullivan Show," and graced the stage of Carnegie Hall.
Mabley continued performing in the 1970s. In 1971, she appeared on The Pearl Bailey Show. Later that year, she opened for Ike & Tina Turner at the Greek Theatre and sang a tribute to Louis Armstrong as part of her set.
Mobley had a starring role in the 1974 picture "Amazing Grace," which she was able to complete despite having a heart attack during filming.
Over the course of her life, Mabley had six children: Bonnie, Christine, Charles, and Yvonne Ailey, and two placed for adoption when she was a teenager. She died from heart failure on May 23, 1975, in White Plains, New York.
Actress Clarice Taylor, who portrayed Bill Cosby's mother on "The Cosby Show" and was a major fan of Mabley's work, staged the 1987 play "Moms at the Astor Place Theater, in which she portrayed the trailblazing icon.
Fellow comedian Whoopi Goldberg made her directorial debut with the documentary "Moms Mabley: I Got Somethin' to Tell You, which was presented at the Tribeca Film Festival and aired on HBO in 2013.

Station 19 6x18
Can Theo go? How more toxic can he be? Writers really said, "Oh you hate Sullivan? Let me show you someone worse". What an asshole. Making out with Kate just because Vic was proud of Andy. Who, mind you, is one of her closest friends and has been fighting for that position for a long time.
Captain Herrera, fucking finally. I hope that storyline ends there. We don't care about that anymore. She is going to be a great captain. Let her be captain until season 11, at least.
I wish we had seen a conversation between Maya and Andy about the captaincy.
Jack lost consciousness, so he couldn't tell Vic what he saw. If they kill Jack, I'm suing. He is just a dumb guy, and he doesn't deserve that. I hated him when he was part of Maya and Carina, but he is getting his life together.
Travis has been a shitty friend to Vic, btw. Vic told him what happened with Theo and Travis just saying "Sometimes that happens".
I love we got to see more of Vic and Andy together.
As much as I loved those scenes with Maya and Carina in their apartment. I wished they were on the opening scene. That looked like fun. Maya and Carina are always out of the group.
Are Maya and Carina going to adopt that baby? I know Carina wants to give birth, but they just brought that pregnant lady for Carina to do something? Or is Jack adopting the baby?
What the hell is this? I want a written essay about why Carina flinches like that. Couldn't this scene be like 5 seconds longer?
Tumblr media
I'm so annoyed that Carina had to wear her wedding outfit to the ball. You are telling me she didn't have any other dress??? ANY OTHER DRESS??? Why? What was the point? Why do the writers hate Carina so much? She could have gone and bought anything. I'm sure she has gone to some events that required formal dress.
I can't even enjoy her scenes at the ball because of that damn outfit.
I'd never forget Danielle for giving Maya bangs. I know it's just hair, but Maya is not a bangs woman. She wears her hair slicked in a tall ponytail, controlled and put together. Bangs are carefree.
Danielle looks beautiful, but that's not Maya. She could have waited a week to get bangs. I'm in mourning.
It wasn't even mentioned. When she cut her hair short, it made sense. It was a beautiful moment, and she looked very hot. But those bangs just, I don't know. I'd never question Danielle's acting choice, but I feel that this episode was more Danielle than Maya.
This was a good episode. I hope they keep this energy for future epsidoes
I'd love to see them getting ready for the ball. Maya and Carina with the group. They teasing Maya and Carina for being late. CARINA WITH A NEW DRESS (This bothers me so fucking much)
This was my favorite kiss, btw. I guess I'm a sucker for fluff. I loved this scene so much. Even tho We should have seen Maya topping Carina.
Tumblr media
Anyways we survived Krista, and I hope next season is better. Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige, here are my recommendations:
Someone tell Danielle to put this pic on Maya's locker.
Tumblr media
Bisexual Vic
Theo gone. Bring another female firefighter. (Latina, please?)
Redemption for Sullivan (I like Boris; I don't want him gone, ok?) Can they do something to make him likable? Please. He can be funny. We can save him.
Baby Deluca-Bishop (Bishop-Deluca still sounds better. If Maya weren't so whipped by her wife), It's time. I didn't want a baby, but I'm tired of this storyline. Just give them a baby, please.
More Carina Deluca in action
More Vic, Maya, and Andy together
More fires
More silly episodes
Whoever is reading fanfics realizes that Marina's baby should be named Andrea.
Maya and Carina change the sheets. Please, I'm begging. I'll change them myself if I have to.
P.S: Whoever edited this deserves an award. So unserious.

The date is getting closer and it’s a bittersweet moment. I’m both excited and nervous for the new season to start. But while we wait we will still try to Save Station 19.
For anyone in the US and willing and able to watch live on ABC, please help us by tuning in on March 14th so that we can make it the best season yet with ratings.
In the meantime, if you’re seeing this for the first time, sign our petition too.

I wish they'd do a reboot of Third Watch, BUT have it that the show "ended" at the season three finale. The newly imagined universe would've seen Alex alive and well with a couple of sons, Bosco would've supported Faith after Fred died in the elevator (meaning neither of the three would've crossed paths with the storylines written for them in season four onwards).
We pick up 23 years later, Bosco & Yokas now have a 20 y/o daughter, Alex has twin 20 y/o sons with an unnamed construction-worker husband who adores her endlessly, and the younger trio are rookies in their respective fields (Boscorelli-Yokas daughter is starting as a paramedic, much to the chagrin of her parents, and Alex's two sons are starting as a firefighter and rookie police officer). Throw in some of the canonical off-spring in slightly-senior emergency jobs, all of them working in close proximity to one another, and most on the Third Watch.
Bosco is a training officer (of Alex's son, who has a thing for Bosco's daughter which of course causes dRaMa), Faith is a detective alongside a should-have-retired-years-ago John Sullivan. Alex is now chief of the firehouse, which really grinds Jimmy's gears (he and Kim never rekindled their relationship, and his son Joey is a firefighter in another part of NYC).
Other older cast can return here and there throughout the seasons.
Anyway, I may have thought about this a little bit.

Trying to find all the easter eggs from 7x09... Did I miss any?
Natasha reaching for her phone worrying it's about work instead of enjoying sexy time with Sullivan => Maya did the same when she went on vacation with Carina (3x11)
Andy voiceover => First two seasons!
Maya's outfit in the kitchen => the same she wore the day she met her future wife at Joe's bar (3x05)
"Hey, I love you" in the kitchen before leaving to work => Same moment in the old apartment (4x04)
"Jack are you sitting at home monitoring the wildfire?" => Her father too was unable to stop firefighting after he had to retire
"Why aren't we dancing for joy?" => Houseboat dancing, Andy was the only one who didn't want to dance (3x16)
"I'd like to tell Travis first" => (maybe farfetched) Ross asking Andy and Maya not to tell Sullivan about their relation being leaked. (6x16)
Talking about a potential future on the station's rooftop => Travic were the only duo who hadn't done that yet, so many moments and discussions happened at this spot.
"Oh crap" => Signature quote from Montgomery, he says it all the time : hockey rink, snowstorm
Wildfire => Season 2 finale
Yellow fire engine is back and lined up neatly with the other ones! => It's the one S19 temporary had when their engine was totalled (5x02)
"You know I don't like the woods" / Glamping site => The couple who gets attacked by a bear : the lady is not happy that her husband brought her to a glam-camping trip instead of a hotel (3x05)
"Chief, you feel confident in that plan?" => Andy vs Jack when she does't want to open more ventilation in the roof but he does and they wait (1x03)
Theo being bothered having to sit around to attend some rich dude's ugly building instead of fighting the wildfire => Sullivan when he enrolled a private company, as he heard Andy calling her team (4x01)
"My mom smoke when she was pregnant with me", "Yeah, exactly" => Sounds like Jack and Maya's smack talk in season one
"Didn't work for us, that doesn't mean it won't work for you and Carina" => Andy tells Maya her marrying super fast didn't work for her and Sullivan, but that her situation with Carina is different (4x14)
"I don't think we're there yet" => Again, callback to Jack and Andy battling for Captain waiting too long for that ventilation (1x03)
"Are you doing a quick and dirty courthouse wedding" => Andy and Sully married in a quick and dirty courthouse wedding (3x12)
"We're happy for her, right?" => In the pilot, when they're in the rig, Maya learns that Jack proposed and says "Oh we are not happy" (1x01)
"Everyone's leaving home" => Andy feels like her father felt when she moved out? (2x02)
"We were raised in this station by your dad" => Pruitt told Maya he handpicked the entire team because he knew they'd fit as a family (4x01)
"Have each other's backs" => Herreras' tag line circa season one
"You can't leave, Vic" => Vic asking Dean not to leave on their way to fight a fire (5x05)
Vic referring to Travis as her person => Grey and Yang coded, he also said that to her two episodes prior when she had her meltdown (7x06)
Probies flirting with each other => Gibson and Herrera (1x01)
Bishop and Herrera looking at the fire => wildfire episode throwback (Season 2 finale)
Whistle lady => Molly had a whistle in the skyscraper fire (Season 1 finale)
Hiker fell down the hill => When Andy and Maya rappelled down to rescue a hiker who had fallen (2x06)
Sullivan connects to the victim because they're both marine vets => Sullivan helps with a hostage situation, bonding over being a veteran (3x09)
Vic and Travis fighting while cleaning branches => Same way they were fighting when Travis discovered she was with Theo (4x09)
"We cannot wait for the aid car" => Maya's demotion (4x16)
"We're gonna have to carry him, the medical tent is about a mile away" => Emmet tells Travis they can carry Vic to the Aid Car that's a mile away (5x05)
"Have fun getting fired" => again callback to when Sullivan chose to go help with the fire instead of staying put (4x01)
"Dibs on the puppy" => Shoutout to Dean in the series pilot (1x01)
Ben jumping into Doctor mode, saying "This can't wait" => During the california wildfire Ben had to cut the man's hand for him to survive (Season 2 finale)
"That Richards guy reminds me of Gibson" => Self explanatory, Season 1
"Being in the field is a different game. I bet you won't do it wrong again" => Travis said something similar to Ben as he almost killed Pruitt wanting to do a medical procedure on the Aid Car (1x01)
"Swollen ankles, pickles, chocolate ice cream" => JJ hated her pregnant state and had ice cream cravings (3x06)
"That is how childbirth works, my friend" => Maya and Carina face timing during the snowstorm episode "Babies don't fly out they slowly slide out" (3x06)
"Monogamy is for the weak, or the very very dedicated" => front porch drinking session between Maya, Andy and Vic (1x02)
Getting retired firefighters to help out => Pruitt and friends would be proud
"She told Theo before me?" => Travis already said that before
Rambling " and - Oh my god she was right" => another signature quote from Travis
"We're 19. Family forever." => Tagline of the show, had to be mentioned
"New Guy" => Ben was called that when started as a probie
"Thanks, Hughie" => Dean was the one who called Vic that <3
Mentions of Lasagna, "Ti amo, Bella" => Marina core
Top of the truck => Same as after Lucas Ripley died
"Come with me" => Dean offered Vic to come with him to Oakland
"You don't have to know right now" => Vic's proposal to Ripley
"Dad!" => Ben's nickname at the Station
"Wet stuff on the red stuff" => Dean, season one, Travis, season four
"Use my name, I know a guy" => Isn't that what Vic says to Theo when he goes to order Pierogies ?
"Boy Scout" => Kate called Theo that (7x04)
Theo jumps to save Travis => He couldn't do it for Michael
"We roll him on my count 3,2,1" => Reverse situation when they all rolled Hughes in season 5 in The things we lost in the fire
"We're not talking like you're dying because you're not dying" => I feel like I've heard that from Vic before, but can't pinpoint the episode
Camera moving around Carina and Maya => Carina's proposal scene (4x14), yet another moment that's supposed to be happy but comes with some devastating news, like the proposal/visa, the wedding/demotion etc.

Wow my st19 rewatch is makes me realise why I hate ross why does anyone like her? She showed clear favouritism towards Sullivan in s5 and told beckett to punish maya and torture her from the inside to keep her quiet abt her secret affair and just sitting back and watching it happen while continuing this secret affair, ignoring multiple members of the team when they came to her with their concerns abt beckett. She knew he had been drinking on the job and let him off as he knew her dirty secret and proceeded to do nothing after he still showed his incompetence. Becketts bullying which she encouraged and everyone else ignored led to maya's injury which happened at the station and firefighters getting injured in their own station is concerning enough nevermind them almost dying and then being forced into a psych hold by their partner then mandated therepy by the department and ross didnt even bother to check in with her. As the chief surely she has a duty to and the team that claims to be a "family" did nothing either.
I think everyone liked the idea of Ross and the potential she had as female Chief but it was definitely underwhelming and disappointing for the most part. I'm actually rewatching Season 7 now because I have a few questions in my inbox about ranking episodes/Marina scenes so I wanted to rewatch to refresh and see if any opinions changed and I think what bothers me the most with Ross is the double standards and how she picks and chooses when to go by protocol and when she doesn't. And for some reason it always seems to be Maya that gets the short end of the stick and on the other end of the double standards and I'll never understand why that was. It's like these writers had a personal vendetta against her character at times or something because it truly made no sense.
We see Ross go to bat for Andy multiple times and even Vic to save her job and Crisis One but when it came to Maya? Nothing. It's all about women fighting for women unless it's Maya and I don't get it. She literally saved a child's life and they act like she did something unforgivable. And how she always has to go begging for forgiveness from everyone but never getting it in return when she's been treated like shit by multiple people on the team. It'll forever piss me off.
