meanwhile lance is now ass over tit for this buffass firefighter who saved his cat

so he invents reasons to have the firefighters come out and eventually he starts to like bring the firefighters dinner after he figures out keith is usually on night shift

tbh i had no idea that most firefighters are volunteers and don't get paid much if they get paid at all until the Try Guy's video about it. its a good vid i recommend it just bc it teaches so much about how dangerous house fires are and why firefighters work harder just getting their gear on than a cop will work in their whole career

its one of their best videos in my opinion and i'm so proud of the work they did(especially Zach since he's got so many disabilities) and how hard it is to be a firefighter.

I can tell you with %100 certainty, I could NOT do what they did in this video

also thinking about Keith's relationship with Heath's crew at the firehouse in the runaway paladin AU, because they have to know him. They're all fond of Heath's weird delinquent son.

He doesn't trust babysitters, so he'd often bring Keith with him when he had to stay over on shift at the firehouse... at least, when they'd gotten to the point where Keith could control his shapeshifting. Keith as a toddler just running around the firehouse, because this kid went from crawling to running with no stops in between for walking. Everyone had to pitch in to keep an eye on him, because he seemed to have a talent for getting himself into trouble.

(they would laugh and say he still has one to this day.)

They kind of miss him when he gets older, and can stay home by himself. They'll still see Keith from time to time though, when he's out and about. They offer up one of the walls of the fire station for Keith to do whatever he wants with. He spraypaints a mural of a blue lion curled protectively around the Earth that no one really gets, but everyone agrees looks really cool.

They all know the kid is a little weird. They've seen him lift shit he absolutely should not be able to. They know nothing about his mother. But he's a good kid (despite his multiple arrests).

The half-alien thing throws them all for a loop though. And to think, they could have been poking fun at his dad for being an alienfucker this whole time.

Imagine if everyone in Voltron didn’t end up in space until they were much older, because shiro never crash landed back on earth in that pod.

Keith has a rough few years before eventually finding his way and becomes a firefighter like his father. Hunk and Lance graduate from the garrison as a cargo pilot and engineer respectfully. Lance never could quite make the cut for fighter class. Pidge is a conspiracy theorist who focuses their energy on trying to find their brother and father, they are slowly uncovering more and more of what they believe to be alien radio chatter.

Lance is returning to earth after delivering cargo to one of the moon colonies, Hunk is on board with him. It’s routine for them at this point. Some kind of weird interference starts causing issues and none of the crew have any clue what it could be, Lance is trying to work through it so he can get them safely landed but he knows it’s gonna be a rough landing nonetheless. They come down far too hot, crashing in the stretch of desert between the garrison and the nearby township.

Most of the crew get out with minor injuries thanks to Lance managing to crash this thing more gracefully than they’d all expected but there’s a fire that broke out in the main hull and no one can get to Lance. Hunk is beside himself, this isn’t how he ever wanted to loose his best friend. Then the fire trucks are rolling in and who steps out amongst the crew? Keith Kogane. Despite everyone’s insistence the ship is way too unstable he’s going in anyway because he’ll be damned if he doesn’t at least try to save the remaining crew member. Couple minutes later he’s dragging a barely conscious lance from the wreak. Who is absolutely not happy that Keith was the one to save him by the way. He never did get over that guy one upping him in everything.

Amongst the garrison vehicles that pull up there’s a car only Hunk and Lance recognise, because they kept in contact with Pidge even after they were eventually found out and kicked from the garrison. Hunk assumes they’re probably tracking that weird interference and he’s right. But right as the medical team is prepping Lance for transport something appears in the horizon. It’s a ship, and it’s not one of theirs.

ok coming back to Voltron fandom after a long long while.

and what i'm thinking rn is galra keith.

first of all i'm pretty sure it was confirmed that keith's father was a firefighter but did he actually die on the job? i don't remember. but can you imagine? your alien wife left to fight in a war and you're left with your half alien child LIKE DYING IS NOT AN OPTION for you man, who's gonna take care of your alien child???

but anyway it is what it is ig he died and before keith even hit puberty.

so imagine he already got accepted into garrison thanks to shiro. and the lil guy was growing and finally hit puberty. he was growing hair everywhere, just like a normal human, altho it has a slight purple hue to it. his canines got a lil longer than a human would usually have. and he started noticing markings on his body and face so he had to cover them with makeup.

and in keith's emo "i'm a loner" fashion ofc he wouldn't tell anyone for at least a year before shiro noticed.

and now imagine takashi, who dreamed of going to space, discovering other living species and probably finding proof of aliens existing... but now you have to help to cover this lil weird kid so he wouldn't get dissected by scientists like in an old sci-fi movie or smth.

and what i'm saying is this show ended 6 years ago and there already should be fics, fanarts or comics with this plot right?? right???? so if you know any please direct them my way thank you👍

is it just me or does Keith's shack bother anyone else immensely

theres a tendency to default to having that be Keith's old house in fic and art bc of the proximity to the Blue lion & Krolia's crash site by proxy but also like. hold on let me get some pictures.

so 2 things. 1, Krolia literally crashes in Kogane Sr.'s yard. are there just houses spread out in the middle of whatever the fuck in the desert??? where is everyone?? Senior was a firefighter so they HAD to be near some sort of town?? but also rural enough that no one else (NAMELY THE GARRISON) saw an alien ship crash???? and him walking around with his purple lover???

and 2. this is not the same building. it actually looks quite similar to the shed next to Senior's home except with an extra block and a tree behind it. the fences in the foreground also look somewhat similar. while searching for pictures I actually found a floormap by @/wiccoppi that gives a great overview of what's happening in there.

but anyway, Keith definitely wasn't raised in that shack. there isn't even a bed in there and it's much smaller. plus Senior's house was like. actually nice on the inside.

so what happened to the house?? and where did he find this shack??

it has to be from the same general area as the house at the very least because both are somewhat close to the Blue Lion. I don't know if it's the same one next to Senior's house because the trees are different and there's no reason for the entire house to be gone unless there was some sort of accident that happened and voltron just never brought it up (which.... they totally would do tbf but the tree also bothers me).

maybe it's someone else's abandoned property??? he left the Garrison around 17 it's not like he could be a homeowner. his original house may have been sold when he was orphaned or something but that still feels odd to me because why did young bachelor Kogane Sr own a family sized house with a tire swing to boot if it wasn't HIS parents' house?? wouldn't the house just be abandoned until Keith was old enough until he could live on his own if Senior owned it?

I know this is def something they just didn't map out but also like. what the hell guys. why was Keith being raised with no other houses in sight?? did Kogane Sr just drive his kid across the desert to school every day and then pick him up after work?? where were they getting groceries?? in both the shack and the house if they're not the same property. how much money did they spend on gas???? did they move into town after Krolia left and Senior didn't have to hide his purple wife??

I already have like the worlds worst spatial awareness so I absolutely hate this. they really just dropped him in a near empty space and said "okay, good enough."

it's totally something I would do as a writer myself, but along with the lack of information on Keith's life before the Garrison it drives me absolutely bonkers.

hello and welcome to fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

These Walls Have Ears by notverystraight

Before Lance’s friends arrive at his apartment for their weekly movie night, Keith is in Hunk’s car on the phone to Lance, trying to explain why they’re late, again. Mid conversation, Keith drops his phone under the seat. Assuming Lance has hung up, Pidge and Hunk start pestering Keith about certain feelings that he may be harboring, leading to some quite personal confessions. Little do they know, Lance has not hung up, and is listening in on every word. Shenanigans ensue.

the second best part of this fic is how sweet and funny this is. this fic is blushy and silly and dorky and so so so!!! it is just fun and garrison trio my love. the BEST part of this fic is lance knowing hes hot shit

2. That Won't Last, He's Gay and She's An Alien by notverystraight

Lance didn’t know what he’d expected to see when he came onto the Garrison’s training deck, but it definitely wasn’t this. Keith was panting with exertion, pinning someone to the ground with the edge of his training sword just brushing their neck. And by someone, Lance meant Acxa, one of Lotor’s old half-Galra generals. Or, Lance walks in on Keith and Acxa sparring. He has not-so-mixed feelings about it.

usually every jealousy trope fic i read induces the PHATTEST eye roll literally of all time but this one made me laugh lol. its just such a ridiculous concept and its fun basically. also krolia lowkey being a thot is hilarious

3. Go the Distance by orphan_account [EXPLICIT]

Keith is a sprinter, Lance runs long distance. Despite not competing against each other directly and despite the fact that they're training to bring glory to the same high school track team, the two end up becoming rivals who are wholeheartedly committed to victory. Along the way, however, they find themselves awfully sidetracked by the other's inspiring legs--er, skills. Much fluff and smut and no angst.

bro lance is SUCH a goober 😭😭 he gets himself into the most embarrassing situations and there is truly no one he can blame but himself. honestly this one is such a fun read and if the explicit warning bothers you, it's not the whole fic! you can easily skip it. the rivalry and getting together is just as fun and stupid as you'd expect from them truly

4. Haunted House Hang-Up by Creatortan

Keith runs a paranormal investigation YouTube channel with his friend, Pidge. Pidge is friends with Hunk, who is friends with Lance, who is very, very haunted. And also, very, very pretty.

oh my LORD i love this. nd team? check. supernatural fuckery? check. cute flowery lance? check. dorky suave keith? check. side of hot firefighter shiro? check. just an 11/10 in general top notch

5. Rambling by Creatortan

Lance was a talkative person, and he thought he had accepted that.

no seriously bc the Can't Shut Up Syndrome is the Worst side effect of adhd and other nd's tbh. i hate the way you're excited and you can feel yourself start to build and trip over your words but it doesn't matter bc it's so background! there's so much cool shit ur sharing!! and then you see the eyeroll or the shrug and it just comes crashing back on you so so quickly and hard and. god. this fic captured that so well

My dad is from Texas, but I grew up near the Garrison. I will say he did have a southern accent, but I never inherited it.

It took me a bit longer to speak properly than for the average kid. In that time, I had other influences, so I never developed the same heavy southern accent he had.

One nice memory that I’ve clung onto desperately is a time he took me to the fire station as a kid. His coworkers were really nice. Fire trucks look huge when you’re tiny, and I’ve tried to keep the image in my mind. I really don’t want to forget the small happy moments I had when I was young. He really loved being a firefighter.

Paladin redesigns

So... my friend @adaphyl and I have been working on a Voltron rewrite because canon Voltron? Eughdghf god awful, we all know. But it's ok, it's not real it can't hurt us.

We've been working through the cast and redesigning characters. I'm posting the paladin redesigns first just because my Altean redesigns need a bit more explanation... there's a lot of lore and I just don't got it in me rn.

I say these are the paladin redesigns but I did also include Keith's dad for reasons, we called him Jim. Anyways here are my redesigns as well as some notes on our rewrites of the characters (I will go more into this at a later date, but for now just some important notes).

Keith:

He's trans ftm, wears a binder. He needs to be wrestled out of said binder because he will wear it for too long. He is on hrt but has been off of it for a while cause space.

Keith is itty bitty, we made him 5'5.

He has more non-human features, the stripes on his arms are Galran markings, as well as the "freckles" on his face. He does get more Galran features in the future (will be in a future post).

Shiro's son.

He's autistic because I say so (I'm projecting but also honestly none of them are neurotypical lets be real).

Lance:

Lance is amab and nonbinary, goes by he/they.

Fuckboy with a heart of gold but like... genuinely. He comes off as a fuckboy to many people but he truly is just a silly little guy. Canon Lance but far better.

He's average height, 5'10.

He wears friendship bracelets made by his nieces and nephews, and always has hair ties on him for anyone who needs one. The anklet is from his mother.

Shark tooth necklace is because it's his favorite animal (and because sharks are MY favorite and I'm projecting).

Pidge:

Transmasc genderfluid, uses they/them pronouns primarily but is fine with any.

Pidge is still the shortest, around 4'11 iirc.

Pidge is aroace because I say so, romance and sex repulsed they do not give a shit about any of it.

Their hoodie was originally Matt's, they stole it in order to sneak into the Garrison and decided to just keep it. Pidge misses their brother.

Pidge wears a binder and is very good about not wearing it for too long. They set a timer for how long they should wear it and will take it off as soon as they can, as well as set reminders for break days. They are on top of this shit.

Hunk:

Hunk has tattoos (not pictured, we're working on designing them). We wanted to really represent Hunk's culture and because he's Samoan we wanted to give him some traditional Samoan tattoos as a treat.

He's everyone's bestie/big brother actually and I love him can you tell I love him?

iirc he's around 6'0 tall.

Paints his nails the voltron colors, one finger for each member. His thumbs are painted yellow so he can point to himself.

Shiro:

Shiro is a trans man, he has had top surgery and is also on hrt.

Shiro is Keith's stepdad... kind of. Kind of stepdad kind of adopted dad. Simply dad.

Shiro is also around 6'0, shorter by Hunk by an inch.

Oh he also has a tongue piercing hehe haha.

Jim (Keith's bio dad):

Jim is Jim.

No but really, he was in fact a firefighter, we are keeping that. He dies in a fire and Keith now wears his dog tag.

He may have held hands with Shiro at some point :3c

There isn't much to say about him (I simply don't remember everything) but just know I love him.

Pre Canon Voltron headcannons Bc I Can. Part 1(?)

Keith has dyed his hair red before, (specifically before meeting Shiro and then once at the garrison to piss Iverson and Sanda off.)

Shiro knows how to give himself a (non sexual obvi) massage.

After finding out Keith’s holiday plans consisted of staying in his shared room at his foster parents, Matt and Shiro invited over for the Holt/ Shirogane-Whatever the fuck Adam’s last name is family dinner. And he hasn’t missed one sense, even when in the desert.

Keith taught Pidge how to pick a lock and how to defend herself, while Pidge taught Keith his way around a computer.

Keith knows first aid. (Bc his dad was a firefighter, he grew up in the desert, and bc he was always getting himself in trouble.)

Matt and Keith pranked Iverson and Sanda a lot (unbeknownst to everyone else because they would get in a whole lot of trouble obviously)

Matt and Keith were roommates.

On the anniversary of his dad’s death, you could find Keith under his bed frame or in some other odd place with music playing. Matt covers for him in class while Shiro and Adam ask for the day off and hang out with him, usually in silence.

Adam, Shiro, and Iverson were all in the same book club.

Adam and Shiro have the occasional double date with Sam and Colleen (it consists of Sam trying to get Shiro to call him something other than Science Officer Holt and Adam and Colleen swapping recipes)
