Suki, after digging through Kyoshi Island fer smth and in the process discovering never before seen hidden texts written by an air nomad named Jinpa detailing Avatar Kyoshi’s life, including her very public and loving relationship with Fire Nation lieutenant Rangi of the extinct Sei’naka clan: oh. Ohhhhhh. O h sHIT-
I’m just saying, if Zuko can have the Fire Nation be more tolerant towards queer folk then I have no doubts he would defo re-establish the Sei’naka name in Fire Nation history books, including Hei-Ran’s and Rangi’s legacies, their history with the Earth Avatar, and how Kyoshi trailblazed more acceptance towards queer folk with her beloved firebender by her side :DDD
You know, I really wonder what happened with the Sei'naka clan post-Kyoshi's era. They probably either went extinct (in a manner of speaking) in the Fire Lords' efforts to fully unify the Fire Islands by taking power from the clans, or its descendants became simple nobility or ministers during the Hundred Year War I guess.
That being said, what I'm sure is that Rangi and Hei-Ran, regardless of their historic existence to the Fire Nation (headmaster of the Royal Academy, high ranking soldiers with direct relationship to the Fire Lords) were probably erased from history during Sozin's era and after it (or at least he attempted to do so). Sozin was homophobic and banned same-sex relationships and persecuted people in the trans spectrum as well in his era, and it lasted until the end of the Hundred Year War when it was said that the Fire Nation became tolerant again (thanks, Zuko). And Fire Nation also spreaded hate towards the Avatar. So, Rangi, openly a lesbian whose lover was—of all people—a fucking Avatar from the Earth Kingdom? Yeah, I just know they tried to erase her from history. Hei-Ran too, since—again—they spreaded propaganda against the Avatar and Hei-Ran was one of the famous companions of one just like her daughter.
Post-war, that probably changed.
