Oh, you know. Just the Bad Decision Duo making some bad decisions in the name of one-upmanship. Like always.

One very brief pepper-eating contest later…

They end up bedridden for a whole week after that, and grounded by their horrified parents for even longer. Doesn't stop Bow from bragging about the win, though, even into the present day. Dedede tries his very best to pretend it never happened (and steers clear of ghost peppers from then on).

**Suffice to say, they are dummies, and children, and fictional characters. Please do not try this at home.**

Keith's the one who has to teach Hunk bending first.

It goes... not well at first. Hunk doesn't have a strong base comparability with fire, and his willingness to learn can only take him so far. Keith's also never taught anyone before- he doesn't know what he's doing. He can't even really draw on how his father taught him, because his dad died when he was eight, and so much of what he knows is instinctive anyways.

He's just always been able to firebend. It comes naturally to him. He's never given it any thought.

(Lance rolls his eyes at that. How can you just know?

If he's being honest, it's driving Keith kind of insane. He doesn't understand how Hunk can't just get it- even at the same time, he kind of does? It's not Hunk's fault he's bad at this. He's just not a very good teacher. Maybe they can find someone else. Someone better.

But the someone better teaches Hunk to be afraid of fire, and somehow, Keith knows that's not the way. You should respect fire. It can be dangerous. But you shouldn't fear it- the fire can be your steadfast companion if you let it be. And he thinks... he thinks that's the kind of firebender Hunk would want to be. Like a campfire in the dark, a steadfast companion in the night.

Maybe he can help teach him.

A conversation overheard during a brief moment of rest in the midst of the chaos overrunning the Circle at Kinloch Hold.

Zevran: Your brother is quite fortunate.

Revka: Nothing 'bout this mess is fortunate. Less you mean that he's still breathing.

Zevran: Mm, yes I suppose that is true, given the circumstances. The same might be said for anyone we come across here not turned into some terrible puppet of mutilated flesh. But that was not the meaning I intended, no.

Revka: What did you intend, then?

Zevran: That he is fortunate to have a sister such as yourself.

Revka: *scoff* 'S no shame in you, is there? Neck deep in filth and demons and you're still tossing 'round flattery.

Zevran: That is no flattery, dear Warden. Only truth.

Kirby Star Allies is one of, if not my absolute favorite Kirby games, and I recognize while it's on paper one of the weaker entries in the core series, it appeals to me personally on multiple levels and I think I should revisit it more

"It went great," Randall smiled warmly, as he removed the last of the boxes and tucked them under the bed, before he moved to turn the sheets down and fluff up her pillow for her, wanting to make sure she was as comfortable as possible.

"I...I think they're well on their way to being open to the idea of you joining the family," he continued, his smile not fading as he said this: Maybe he was putting all of his eggs into one basket, but given the way the Paces spoke with her all throughout the night, getting to know the truth, better understanding her, to say nothing of how they happily shared their most favorite family stories with her, how they fretted over making sure she stayed fed, and was shielded from the sun...it spoke volumes to him about how they felt about her, and how much they came to care for her.

"I...I don't think we'll have anything to worry about," he asserted gently, as he turned back to face Emily, to wrap an arm around her and kiss her again, to better put her mind at ease before she got some rest-maybe they'd talk about the future with his folks tonight before she left, maybe they wouldn't. But whenever they did, he had a good feeling the conversation would go well, and that his parents would welcome her into the family with open arms.

"That's not...hopelessly naive of me to think...is it?"
