Ya know how the Gallaghers have a piano in their house? Could you please write a request where Gallagher sister oc/reader taught herself to play piano over the years and eventually gets into the Chicago Symphony Orchestra? Thank you✌️
Hi! Sorry this took so long. Life decided to hit hard. 😅 I didn't have enough inspiration in me because of some health issues, and I didn't want to post this until it was ready. I wasn't going to half-effort this. Hope you enjoy it. Again sorry it took so long. I appreciate all requests and all comments, so this is no different. I want to thank you for the requests.
As for others who have sent me requests, I will be working on those as well. They will go out. I can't say for sure when. However, I'm getting back into the grove of things. Just something to know, I will be doing them in the order I get them in. Got some Carl, Lip, and The Boys requests on the way, so stay tuned!
Sister Gallagher Reader-Playing the Chicago Synphony
Her nerves were wracking as the seconds kept ticking by. She was going to be called up soon. She’d be performing her solo piano piece. She’d gone through it, but her nerves were the last test. Her heart jumped out of Her chest as she slowly peered out of the curtain to see the large crowd. This was the moment she’d been waiting for.
Soon after those in the house either parties or fought, she was quick to marvel at the lonely piano in the house.
Slowly, as she grew, she grew a bigger and bigger desire to play the piano. She'd sit at the piano and try every key; however, with school, she was quick to pay attention in music class and ask her questions. Although she didn’t have instruments there, she still did her best to retain any information she could.
When she got a phone, she used it to learn even more. From then on, she began her lessons. Day in and day out learning whenever she was free, especially at night. It was her favorite time to play. The silence of the house filled with music instead of curses and drunken screams.
Once she'd mastered the notes and basics. she'd upped the ante to practicing more difficult songs to play and mastering those. One day, she came across a beautiful piece of music and watched as the piano player’s hands moved with the music. Then, an applause rang out. She was wondering why the video and editing was so high quality. Then, she realized she wanted to create her own music. That night, she realized her dream. She wanted to play like that player did. She wanted her efforts to show for it. She wanted to play in the Chicago symphony.
It was a dream she never specifically mentioned, but all her siblings could see how dedicated she was about playing the piano.
When she were older, her phone helped her slowly learn different songs. Soon, she was making her own pieces. Then, when she had the chance to play at an event or school she took it. Music became her life after realizing she could actually do it.
She worked hard, which led to her getting an audition for the symphony. She was a finalist. She never imagined in her wildest dreams to have accomplished it that far; however, now that she was there. Those hours and seconds mattered to everything she’d been working for. She had about a week to practice until the actual event. She would practice as usual as much as possible. However, her siblings looked to her with worry as there was something called too much practice. She began to mess up the keys. Her mind was turning to mush.
Her siblings came to check on her and told her to pull away, but she wouldn’t listen at first.
It was three days before opening night, and she banged her head on the keys in frustration. Fiona’s voice rang out, and she asked, “Hey, what’s up?”
“Maybe you guys were right…I should take a break…”
“You think. I mean right now it’s almost midnight. Everyone's about to head to bed, and I don’t even think I remember seeing you eat today.” Lip strides down the stairs, and he comments, “That’s because they didn’t.” Fiona gives you a look and states, “I’ll make you something.”
She glared at Lip,and he responds with a smile and says, “Don’t worry, Fiona, I’ll force feed them if I have to.” She hit his shoulder with a hard smack. He looks to her before lifting her up over his shoulder as best he could to get her over to the couch.
She yelled, “Fuck off!”
He plops her on the couch and responds, “I’m just getting you away from the piano. Swear you’ve been in the same spot for days. Mold is gonna start. I'm saving you the trouble.”
Ian comes from the front door and overhears a bit as he asks, “We have mold again? Where?”
She huffed and leaned roughly back onto the couch, There is no mold!”
She closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead. Suddenly, She felt less irritable even the calmest she’d been in the time she’d started preparing.
Fiona comes by with a full plate. When the smell hits her nose, her eyes are quick to open. It wakes her back up, and she begins commenting to Lip, ”Okay maybe you were-”
The comment doesn’t go far as Lip shoves food into her mouth. Aggression was going to be the first reaction; however, her stomach and taste buds were happy, so she began to gobble down the food and water in front of her. Nothing took her attention away.
Ian pats at her head and smiles before saying, “Finally, she takes a break. I’m glad you guys did something because this was getting ridiculous. I was almost gonna lose sleep over this.”
Her three siblings were looking at her in adoration as she ate heartedly. As she finished, she smiled at them individually before her face fell, and she uttered, “Thanks guys, and I’m sorry…If I’ve been-”
Ian puts a hand to her shoulder and says, “No need for that.”
Lip adding, “You’ve been a pain but it’s okay…I guess.”
Fiona laughs and adds, “What’s family for?” She nods and smile wider feeling at ease. She's about to stand when Ian pushes her right back down with his hand, and he asks, “Where are you going?”
“I’ve had my break. It-”
Lip scoffs and says, “You don’t learn do you.“
“Well-”
“Rest. You know your music.”
Fiona adds, “No one worked harder at something they have a knack for. We all believe in you, so just rest.“ She looks at Ian, and he comments, “We’ll be there on opening night to cheer you, louder than anyone else. We all know that for a fact.“ She nods and heads to bed. She ended up sleeping for a day and half. Then, everyone was really great about helping find her something to wear because she’d completely forgotten about it.
Back to the moment of truth, her eyes land on her family all in the front row. They give smiles, waves, and thumbs ups. She remembers the encouragement of her siblings and take a breath. She closed the curtain and closed her eyes for a second.
They announce her name. When her eyes opened again, she made her way to the piano. She focused on the keys in front of her.
The cheers that fill her ears being none other than her family. She gestures for them to calm; however, they’ll never know how grateful she was for their support. Quickly, she lost yourself in her song and played until the end flawlessly. She'd done it.
She stood up and looked at the crowd. This time not only her siblings cheered but everyone else.
Hope your day got better

Season 1 Episode 11
We open the episode with Fiona and Steve having a super cute moment when Debbie interrupts them. Fucking Jimmy-Steve..
Tumblr media
Debbie wants Fiona to go to a classroom moms meeting; she had signed Monica up, but Monica is gone, so Debbie asks Fiona to go. No one is happy about it. Fiona goes down to make coffee, but Debbie stays to ask Jimmy if he’s told Fiona the truth yet. He hasn’t. Baby Debbie is unimpressed.
Tumblr media
Lip is looking for Ian’s birth father; he’s hoping to scam him for cash. Fiona suggests they take the bus to see Grammy. Grammy Gallagher!!
Tumblr media
Fiona heads over to Debbie’s school. The class moms are super shitty. But we learn from Jasmine, who’s from the neighbourhood, that they’re making “decorations for the kid’s St. Patty’s day party tomorrow”. This is a direct quote! Keep this in mind.
Fiona heads over to the bitchy ladies, who are talking mortgages and they make a shitty comment about Fiona not needing to worry about it because she doesn’t own a home. But Fiona’s always got a comeback.
Tumblr media
The next scene has Debbie and Carl playing video games in the living room. Frank comes home to them and asks what they’re doing home, to which Debbie replies, “Budget cuts. We have every other Friday off.”
Tumblr media
This implies that it’s a Friday. But the St. Patty’s day party is tomorrow, making the party on a Saturday. So the district doesn’t have money to keep the kids in school, as is the law, but has money to bring them in on a Saturday for a party? Okk..
Now there is a chance that the actress who said the party is “tomorrow” messed up and ad libbed that, because according to the Netflix closed captioning, she doesn’t say the word ‘tomorrow’. But then they could have edited the scene better. Either way, I’m not happy with this for my purposes here.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Frank is there to pick up his mail because he’s expecting a cheque. Instead he finds a letter saying his work compensation his been terminated. He’s ummm... a little upset.
Tumblr media
Lip goes to Karen’s to look for her. He hears loud music coming from the basement, and goes down to find her destroying her dad’s apartment. God those clowns are creepy.
Tumblr media
Lip says he hasn’t seen Karen at school in a few days, and she’s got a new nose ring/chain thing. She’s very clearly upset that her dad called her a whore, and Lip, being a dumbass, doubles down and calls her a whore, too. Not his smartest moment.
Tumblr media
Frank is upset and finds his sleazy personal injury attorney, who informs Frank that they have video of him not being injured. His professional advice is that next time, he aims for knees as it pays more.
Fiona is still stuck with the moms making shamrocks or something. Jasmine is trying to make friends. Ah the sweet beginnings of bi-Fiona. She starts with coffee and then suggests a drink. Sounds like a date.
Frank offers to take Carl to ‘learn the family business’ and Debbie has typed up resume for Frank. Debbie and Carl are soulmates.

Lip and Ian are having a brothers day looking for Frank’s brother. Lip is really into it; Ian is skeptical. Frank takes Debbie and Carl to the job centre to look for work. The kind of work where an accident might be happen. He’s unreasonable though because he doesn’t like the idea of sharp metal in the eye. He is given a list of jobs where the conditions are hazardous, unsafe, or both. Sweet Debbie is concerned..
Tumblr media
Lip and Ian go see Grammy in prison. She’s in there after she caused a tiny meth explosion that killed two teens. She outraged they have her cleaning the toilets, but it’s ok. She kindly informs her grandsons that she can get pussy and blow anytime she’d like, so all good. No worries! They ask for Frank’s brothers’ names. They get Jerry, Clayton, and Wyatt. We also get this iconic line:
Tumblr media
And this squishable face:
Tumblr media
Fiona and Jasmine are out on their date. Jasmine is married with three kids and a stretched out cookie box. But don’t worry—she’s doing kegels while on her date with Fiona. They bond over drunk dads. And then their date is over.
Tumblr media
Kev is super into it.
Tumblr media
Kevin Ball: a champion and an ally.
Frank is taking Carl and Debbie around looking for work, but all the jobs are either way too dangerous or not dangerous enough. Good Officer Tony and his partner have figured out that Steve might be stealing cars. He’s pretty excited about that. Can’t wait to tell Fiona. But Fiona’s not very happy with Tony sticking his nose in Steve’s business. She tries to call Steve to warn him, but he’s not picking up.
Karen seems to have dyed her hair black and is on Daddyz Girl, a web diary website. She also got the word ‘whore’ tattooed on her arm. Oh boy.
Tumblr media
The Gallaghers are icing green cupcakes they made for the party the next day. Steve comes to help, and Fiona is worried, but Steve seems pretty chill about it. Tony notices that the car Steve had earlier now has different plates.
The next morning, which is a Saturday I guess, Lip has borrowed Steve’s car and he and Ian are knocking on Frank’s twin brother Jerry’s door. There’s a tiny bit of a family resemblance. I think.
Tumblr media
And then the show goes on for 10 more seasons and they never once mention Frank’s TWIN brother. Who wants nothing to do with Frank’s family.
Tumblr media
Jasmine comes over to the Gallagher’s unannounced with a bunch of clothes for her and Fiona to try on. Steve has apparently heard of Jasmine and seems a little jealous. He’s heading out, and Debbie makes Steve pinkie swear he’s going to tell Fiona the truth. I love baby Debs SO much!
Tumblr media
Frank is wallowing at his job, realizing it’s gonna take a while to get hurt enough for worker’s comp. Fiona is getting more attention from Jasmine as they try on clothes. Karen is breaking Eddie’s car window. And Lip and Ian seem to have found the brother they’re looking for.
Tumblr media
Clayton is excited to show them pictures of him and Frank as kids. Frank was pious, an alter boy and top of his catechism class. The concept of a baby Frank is so strange.
Tumblr media
Aunt Lucy, Clayton’s wife, isn’t very comfortable with them being there, though. The two of them fight in the kitchen, loud enough for Lip and Ian to hear, and Ian wants to leave. He doesn’t want to ruin their lives. He doesn’t want to leave his siblings. Ian walks out and lets Lip know that his siblings are his family and he’s happy with who they are. He just loves his siblings so much.
Tumblr media
This casting really was spot on, though.
Tumblr media
Tony catches up with Steve while he’s stealing a car. Steve doesn’t help himself, and Tony is pissed. Looks like Good Officer Tony isn’t so good after all. He takes Tony to an alley and roughs him up. He tells Steve to either turn himself in, go to jail for two years, just enough time for Tony to propose to her. Or he can leave. Just pack up and leave.
Tumblr media
Good officer Tony Isn’t so Good, huh?
Tumblr media
Fiona is at the kid’s dance party, and runs into Jasmine and her husband Hal. Hal is also really flirty. Fiona’s worried Steve isn’t there. Jasmine suggests they go to the bathroom and indulge in some party favours she has.
The car that Tony knows Steve stole cuts him off and passes by, and Tony chases after it. Except we know that it’s Lip and Ian. He calls it in, and when he pulls up he finds Lip and Ian. This is a wrench in his ‘get Fiona to love me’ plans, huh.
Tumblr media
Frank had hurt his hand at work when he nail-gunned himself on purpose. He won’t get worker’s comp, but he got some good drugs. He hears Karen crying in the basement and goes to check on her. She tells him to leave, but then she gets an idea. She strips down and, well. She rapes him. On camera. This show is a mess.
Tumblr media
And Fiona gets a call that Lip and Ian are in a spot of trouble.
Tumblr media
So this episode takes place on a Friday-Saturday around St. Patrick’s day, which is March 17th. In 2011, March 17th was a Thursday, so I guess this episode takes place March 18-19th. Sure. Whatever. Who throws school parties on Saturdays!

Blog Entry #2 – Representations of Gender in Shameless
Fiona – An Above Average Female Character
Children are taught from a young age how to distinguish a male from a female. It is more than our parents telling us that girls wear pink and play with Barbies while boys wear blue and play with trucks; the messages put out by the media is the main contributor. Misrepresentations of gender are common in most television shows, typically depicting male characters as strong and masculine while depicting female characters as weak and girly. The journal article “Depictions of Gender on Primetime Television: A Quantitative Content Analysis,” examines stereotypical gender qualities of 89 television shows, coding for 1,254 characters (Sink and Mastro 10). The authors predicted that male characters would notably outnumber female characters, and the results supported this hypothesis: 60.4% of the characters were male, while only 39.6% of characters were female. Do these findings compare to gender representation in Shameless?
Tumblr media
It would be time-consuming to code the number of female and male character appearances across the ten seasons and over 80 episodes of Shameless. Still, one can examine the ten main characters: Fiona, Lip, Ian, Debbie, Carl, Liam, Frank, Monica, Kevin, and Veronica. Only four out of the ten main characters are female, and six out of ten are male. Based on the main characters, it can be argued that Shameless does not equally represent all characters, but there is more than just the quantity, and that is the characteristics. For this post, I will focus on Fiona Gallagher, played by Emmy Rossum.
Here is one of my favorite fan edits of Fiona that does an excellent job showcasing Fiona’s best and worst qualities and moments:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7Aq9QDEe5g&t=76s
This video portrays the many layers of Fiona and the complexity of her character. The many scenes of Fiona breaking down and crying could be used to support the argument that Fiona is a stereotypical female in that she is emotional and vulnerable. On the other hand, Fiona possesses many stereotypical male traits. She doesn’t fit into one gender category, as most characters do. For example, Alexa Will, a writer for Study Breaks, explains how, “Fiona assumes both parental roles - necessary because of her parents’ constant drug- and alcohol-fueled absences - and is a strong figurehead that balances an active sex life with manning the household of five kids” (Will). Fiona is a stereotypical female in the sense that she takes care of her younger siblings like a mother figure, but at the same time, is hard working. Her hard-working and badass traits can be shown through the array of jobs she has held. Fiona becomes a manager of Patsy’s Pies, the restaurant she previously waitressed at, then an owner of a laundromat, and an apartment landlord. In addition to jobs, Fiona’s actions show her character, especially her decision in season ten to leave the Southside and her siblings behind, finally prioritizing her needs and putting herself first (Will).
Tumblr media
Although Fiona is one of the main characters of Shameless, Joe Reid, a writer for the Atlantic, argues that she is also one of the most undervalued characters on television. He explains her character as having many contrasting impulses, such as hating her father while loving her siblings. He states, “Fiona’s the often frustrating, just as often heartbreaking soul of the show” (Reid). As mentioned previously, Fiona is a complex character who is ultimately addicted to a chaotic lifestyle, which is abnormal for a stereotypical female.
Also, it is significant to look at Fiona’s physical attributes that compare to gender representation. Fiona can be identified as a typical female, characterized by long hair, but not all females have long hair. It is also a common misconception that females wear dresses and appear clean, but Fiona crushes these stereotypes. She is shown wearing all different kinds of clothes, usually pants and a top, rarely a dress in only a few episodes.
In comparing Fiona to the content analysis, she can somewhat be characterized as a stereotypical female. The authors predicted that female characters would be sexualized more than male characters but found that “…men were significantly more objectified than women, yet women were significantly more attractive, more likely to behave sexually provocatively, thinner, and younger than men” (Sink and Mastro 13). Fiona is thin, young, and is shown wearing sexually revealing outfits in some episodes, such as wearing a short tight dress and high heels to the nightclub.
Tumblr media
Photo above shows Fiona in two opposite outfits and appearances: clean vs. dirty
Finally, gender is represented in the television series through Fiona’s romantic relationships with about eight different men. And with all these relationships comes many scenes, including sex and nudity. Emmy Rossum deserves all the recognition for her amazing performance as Fiona. Rossum discusses her nudity scenes in an interview with Huff Post. Rossum notes that she is not comfortable with being nude, but it is okay when in character because Fiona is open with her sexuality.
Watch the full interview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=LLIjD0c4YsDfCg9eMh61B6vg&v=J_SJytH3-4Y
Although men have come and gone through Fiona’s life, she proves she does not need a man in her life; she is a strong independent woman, rare for many television and movie characters. It is crucial for all media to include more counter-stereotypical characters or even characters with both female and male traits, like Fiona.
Tumblr media
Photo above shows Fiona and one of her many boyfriends: Jimmy AKA Steve
It is important to hear what Rossum has to say about her character because she knows Fiona best. Here is another video in which Rossum discusses her character - Fiona Gallagher - in the upcoming season of Shameless and explains how Fiona is coming into herself and succeeding for the first time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftDprjWx21M

The Blackthorn Music Festival has moved on somewhat from it's humble beginnings on the outskirts of Manchester just four years ago.  Blackthorn Music Festival now boasts a stellar line-up of the best in unsigned UK indie music as well as a clutch of top headliners including Reef, Space, Sex Pissed Dolls and the Lightning Seeds and we'll feature as many as we can on the Radio KC Indie Show between now and July 23rd. If you're looking for a place to see all your favourite bands in one place - Blackthorn Music Festival is the place to be. In fact If Ralph was going to put together a line-up for Ralphstock, this would pretty much be it! Nestled in the picturesque countryside, yet only 15 minutes from Stockport and 30 minutes from Manchester, Blackthorn Music Festival is a true celebration of the city's diverse cultures and stunning rural produce plus all the outdoor joy of 'glamping' - time to get your wellies on!
With the North West creating some of the best music ever made and the region's food and drink producers bringing us some of the tastiest , high quality produce available, when you come to Blackthorn Music Festival you'll be assured of the best of the city alongside the best of the countryside.
CLICK ON THEIR NAME TO FOLLOW THE BANDS & ARTISTS ON TWITTER
REEF:  Reef are an English band from Glastonbury who've been part of the UK alt rock/pop scene since 1993. The current band line-up includes Gary Stringer on vocals, Jesse Wood on guitar, Jack Bessant on bass and Dominic Greensmith on drums. Famed for their live performances and with the likes of Reading and Glastonbury festivals under their belt they're as 'British Rock Royalty' a headliner as you could wish for. LIGHTNING SEEDS:
The Lightning Seeds are an English alternative rock band from Liverpool formed in 1989 by Ian Broudie, formerly of the band Big in Japan. Stalwarts of the 90's ppp scene and always festival favourites, they're a real catch for Blackthorn Music Festival. After a highly acclaimed Edinburgh Hogmanay performance last year Broudie is currently writing and recording the first Lightning Seeds album in years.
SEX PISSED DOLLS: The Sex Pissed Dolls are an all female rock band. The five-piece formed in late 2014 and like many others started out covering songs they loved. In 2015 they embarked on a 50 plus date UK tour aptly entitled ' The Never Needed Bollocks Tour ' playing many prestigious venues up and down the United Kingdom to rapturous reviews. SPACE:
November 2011 saw the triumphant return of Space. The new line-up reunited original members Tommy, jamie and Frannie for the first time in 10 years. They were joined by the other members of Tommy's band The Red Scare, Phil Hartley, Ryan Clarke and Allen Jones. Their return was cemented with a sell out gig in Liverpool's O2 Academy back in December 2011. No Hot Ashes:  High on Ralph's 'ones to watch' list are No Hot Ashes, an exuberant four-piece from Stockport. The sound they have settled on is heavy bass infused Chilli Peppers meets James Brown with a rap and hip hop overlay.  The combination is as infectious as it is fresh and in an era of samey local guitar bands of varying qualities. They are band you have to see live as their performances ooze raw funk rhythms and a passion for entertaining crowds. Keep your eyes peeled for their brand new single Bellyaches, it's a corker!
