Finn x Rey / LadyHawke AU
Upon breaking out of a dungeon, youthful thief Bramwell (BB-8) befriends Capt. Finn, a man with a strange secret. Finn and his lady love Rey were cursed by the wicked Bishop of Aquila, who desires Lady Rey for himself. His dark magic prevents the pair from ever being in each other's presence except at twilight.

I’ve talked about Jewish Mysticism and Kabbalah in the Sequel Trilogy before and back then I spoke about how Finn and Rey represents the pillars of Gevurah and Chesed, but that is not all the Kabbalic symbolism that surrounds these two characters.
In Kabbalah, and in all of Judaism, the Divine is both male and female. Both needs to exist and neither can dominate the other and they are both of supreme importance to the Tree of Life.
The male part of the Divine (Eyn Soph) enters the Tree of Life at the top of the Tree of Life, into the first Sephiroth (sphere) named Kether, or Crown. Eyn Soph is the Endless Divine Light, what the world was before creation, in entering the world it changes itself, sets limits to itself, so that other things might exist.
As a result Kether is associated with both humility but also the desire to become something other than what is. Furthermore the Sephiroth of Kether is seen as colorless - where all the other sphere’s have a designated color - because it is a single point of light in a vast void.
The female part of the Divine is Shekinah, which dwells in the tenth Sephiroth names Malkuth, or the Physical World. In Jewish thought the physical world is a good thing, it only exists out of the goodness of divine intent and Shekinah is the divine force within the world.
The word Shekinah comes from the Hebrew word ‘to dwell’ or ‘to settle down’. Shekinah is often portrayed as white or light grey, while Malkuth’s color is black to signify physical matter.
Now what does this have to do with Finn and Rey? Let’s look at how the two characters are introduced in the movie and their underlying character motivations.
When we first meet Finn we don’t see him. We don’t even see him in the Stortrooper armor. No, instead what we see is a moon. A shining, almost glaringly bright moon, slowly being swallowed up by the darkness of a passing Star Destroyer only just a tiny bit is left and then

Three attack ships escape it. Shooting out of the sliver of light they descend unto the world below, one of them carrying Finn. What is more. When we see inside the ship to see the troops it is also dark, with just a few flashes of light until we can properly see the troops.
Tumblr media
We don’t know which one is Finn, it could be any of them. Maybe that was part of the point, it could have been any of them, it could have been any force that entered the world via that tiny sliver of light, but the creating force, the one who is founded in humility and a desire to become something that he isn’t, something he’s never been allowed to be, is our Finn.
In him he carries Eyn Soph, the Endless Divine Light.
Rey on the other hand is more recognizable as an individual, though equally disguised. She too could be anyone.
When first we see her she’s dressed fully in her white and light grey garb, surround by a vast cavern of darkness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just like with Finn for our initial acquaintance with her, we can’t really see her. She too could be anyone. And as the scene progresses we see this young woman, dressed in white and light grey move out of the blackness and up into the “higher” world.
Tumblr media
And then we first see Rey, a character we learn is founded on her desire to find proper settlement, belonging with another. Like the Shekinah, the female divine in the world, that she is.
So Finn and Rey does not just only signify Gevurah and Chesed, they literally represents the two side of G-d, the male and female parts of the divine, as the move up and down the Tree of Life, ever closer to each other.

I couldn’t do more than a silly doodle for this Finnrey Friday, but the theme of “romance novel” was too fun to pass up! I’ll try to clean it up when I have more time and burning passion XD

Back again with some FinnRey~ You can thank @theautisticjedi for commissioning this. It’s the spiritual successor to this piece here. I wanna change up my style just a tad when it comes to faces. Hopefully this piece will be the stepping stone.
Poor Rey, that last movie did her dirty. Hopefully some Finn time will help!
Thank you again for your continued business!
