“Congratulations to the class of 2017!” Poe cheers into the microphone, and the 300 identical black caps are thrown into the air.

Through the crowd, Rey can see Finn hugging everyone around him, laughing and cheering with a giddy joy. A faint smile pushes at her lips, but her eyes watch with a bittersweet sadness. He's done high school now, off to better and bigger things, while she stays another year. He's moving to Toronto, while she stays back home. He's leaving her behind, while she's helplessly watching him go.

Since he announced his plans, since he ran into her house screaming because his acceptance letter had arrived, Rey has been dreading this moment. She's tried her damndest to be happy, to be proud, because she really, truly is.

But.

Toronto is forever away. A different province, a different time zone, a different place; one she can't afford to travel to, and one he can't afford to leave. There's Christmas, possibly spring break. Thanksgiving, if she's lucky. Maybe he'll come back home after exams, or maybe he'll stay. Find a job, an apartment. A life.

All away from her.

The band strikes up another round of Pomp and Circumstance while the teachers file out, followed by the grads. Rey tries to push her way to the front of the crowd but it's jam-packed and she's too skinny to push fifty people out of her way. Defeated, she resigns to stumbling along with the crowd, moving slower than cold molasses in Antarctica. He'll be knee-deep in congratulations and photo ops by the time she gets to him, probably so exhausted he'll want to nap instead of having dinner with her, and it hurts to know this, but she stiffens her upper lip and follows the crowd to the lobby.

She will not cry. She cannot cry. This is what Finn wants. This is Finn’s dream. Whether Rey wants to accept the truth or not, he’s moving away and there’s nothing she can do to stop it.

All of her grief is soon forgotten when a pair of arms wrap around her waist and a pair of lips kiss the top of her head and she’s turning around to see him beaming with pride and eyes shining with tears. Rey scolds herself for her selfishness, for wishing he could stay here instead of chasing his dreams. Gazing upon his kind face, into his warm eyes, is enough to remind her that he deserves this opportunity, that he deserves the whole damn world and she can’t give it to him here.

Her faint smile quickly turns into an enthusiastic grin as she throws her arms around his robed shoulders and holds him close, breathes him in. He smells like maple syrup and sea salt, sweet yet salty.

He smells like home.

“I’m so happy for you,” she murmurs against his neck. His hand rubs her shoulders, his lips pressed in her hair. Shoulders, fingers, hips brush and bump against their still bodies as people push through, impatient and uncaring, but neither back away or move to stand by the wall. Rey is perfectly content where she stands, and no irritable old man or glowering young woman will move her.

Neither speak for a long moment, only bask in the comfort of the embrace. Finn needs no words to express his concern, his fears, his stress; Rey can feel it, has been feeling it, in the set of his shoulders, the lines of his face, the look in his eyes. It’s mostly gone now, replaced with the elation of receiving his diploma, walking across the stage and shaking the principal’s hand, but traces remain. He’s nervous about university, she knows. About not living up to his standards, the weight of the world’s expectations sitting on his shoulders.

“I don’t have to leave,” he says, but there’s a longing in his voice, a regret in the words.

She shakes her head, unwilling to let him suffer for her happiness. “Yes, you do.”

He sighs. “Yeah, I do.”

With one last shaky breath, Rey steps back from the embrace, already regretting her decision. Finn’s arms are warm, unselfish. His hugs can clear the clouds on a rainy day. She’s going to miss his hugs most of all.

“Go find your friends. I need to leave anyways,” she says.

I love you, she doesn’t say. I want to be with you.

Please don’t leave me.

She begins to walk away, grin fading fast. The warmth in her heart slowly evaporates until she’s left cold and alone, and she wishes, for once in her life, that she could have been entirely selfish.

Ben solo is amazing, and is going go be redeemed. Reylo forever

Ben Solo doesn't exist. He's just the fanon fabrication of reylos to make an oc whitewashed version of Finn so that they can ship Rey with a white dude.

Kylo Ren won't get redeemed. He will either die as a villain or die doing *one good thing* like Darth Vader did in ESB, which i don't consider redemption. And neither does George Lucas, who said Vader just stopped the horror. Kylo won't be the good hero that saves the day y'all pretend he's gonna be. And he certainly won't end up with rey, the woman he keeps abusing.

Rey will most definitely end up alone bc LFL are too cowardly to make her end up with the man that treats her with love and respect i.e. finn bc he's black and they constantly treat him like garbage so i doubt they'll give us finnrey. Damerey won't happen either bc it just has no basis. And rey will end up alone, pushing that tired idea that strong women don't need romance, which is much less controversial than her ending up with a black man. And, again, they won't have her end up with the guy that keeps abusing her.

And honestly your delusion that reylo will become canon has the same energy as makorra shippers right before the LoK series finale that tweeted this

Anyway, reylo is abusive and the shippers honestly ruined the sw fandom for me and a lot of ppl, gatekeeping it to the point that the only way for me to enjoy it is to only tune in on Fridays for Mandalorian weekly gifsets of baby yoda and to avoid all sw tags the rest of the year, as well as unrelated sw tags like pride and prejudice and beauty and the beast as well as avoiding the sw rpc bc it's filled with reylos and it's just making me super uncomfortable.

Anyways, when your abusive ship burns down in the fires of Mustafar like the boiled lasagna that is Anakin Skywalker, don't come back in my asks crying.

Rey’s grown used to silence. She swims in it as she scavenges. It’s her constant companion in the AT-AT. The first time she faces down Unkar Plutt, she looks at him directly, and says exactly nothing as he gives her far too little for her treasures.

Rey’s grown accustomed to solitude. Solitude’s a different beast, though it’s a close cousin to silence. Solitude is a fact of her existence. Silence is a plan, an ally, a weapon under the right circumstances. She has to live as she does - always on the edge of hunger, in a tough town. She’s not required to talk about it.

To me, this is why we spend a long time with Rey onscreen before she speaks, and when we do hear her speak, it’s in a foreign language. It’s also why she keeps her reasons for wanting to go back to Jakku to herself (“none of your business, that’s why”). It’s not that Rey is hostile - far from it. She’s just comfortable existing without words.

When Kylo Ren abducts Rey, and she escapes, she’s frightened, but focused. She’s crept around corners before, she thinks, as she eases past stormtroopers. She’s scaled walls on her own, and she holds the memory in her mind as she squeezes into cracks unseen. She’s back into the familiar pattern of look, look again, then wait, then run.

When she sees Finn and Han and Chewie her first reaction isn’t joy, it’s shock. She has to take a minute to process that others are here, and she’s dumbfounded. These people don’t owe her anything, and yet they’ve come back - because Finn couldn’t rest until they found her.

Finn’s grown up surrounded by people, but not able to speak his mind. The minute he breaks away from the stormtrooper role, he feeds off the energy of others, revels in it. This is why the first exchange between Poe and Finn is so powerful. Finn’s ready to jump, ready to trust, even ready to help a complete stranger. He forms an instant bond with Poe, enough that he feels Poe’s “death” as a profound loss. Finn talks to everybody - to Rey, to BB-8, to Han, to Poe, to Maz. He’s eager to be part of a team, part of something bigger than himself.

He’s also, frankly, in love with Rey. She’s his lodestine, his north star, and he’d do anything to get her back once she’s gone. Lie to a roomful of resistance fighters? Check. Pretty much wing it when he gets to the base? Check. Pull a gun on his former commander? Check. He’s worried about what’s happened to her, wants to make sure she’s safe, and knows she’s loved, as soon as he sees her. She steps into his arms quietly, and he holds her tight like he never wants to lose her again.

One hundred straight weeks where we showed greater Star Wars fandom what we're made of and that we're not going anywhere. One-freaking-hundred!

Hey everyone! Finnrey Friday is coming up, and as it's the final Friday of the month, y'all know that means it's a theme week! And as you can tell by the awesome graphic made by Mod Andie, we are starting our new themes to last us through the end of the year. This week the theme is: Outer Space/Runaways. This is a perfect theme for those of you who love in-universe and canon-compliant content, though, of course, you can interpret the theme however you like - or if you're not into it, no worries! Any Finnrey content of any stripe is welcome.

Hey, no drama or beef or whatever. I just want to say I am sympathetic to the reason Finnrey Fridays were created because I was there, in the tags, when FF started. I personally have R*ylo blocked every conceivable way because the ship triggers lots of extremely bad shit for me from seeing black characters (and other characters of color) sidelined constantly from their own romances. I get it. And I do appreciate what your effort has contributed to in Finnrey fandom. I also think that if y'all personally don’t want to interact with people who ship XYZ that’s your prerogative and I wish you had framed it that way from the jump rather than presenting it as preventing racist harassment on Finnrey content. That said, I don’t and can’t support this rule for reasons already mentioned in my previous posts.

However, I don’t bear any of you ill will and if I create or participate in or promote alternative Finnrey events with different rules, I want it to be clear that it’s not in opposition or rivalry, but because I, like all of you, just want more Finnrey content.

Mod Em here. That’s fair, and we appreciate the follow-up. We understand that this is a change that may not sit well with some of the very people we feel a kinship with. But I need to be clear: there is racist harassment on Finnrey content, and that is the main driver of this change. I have had art reblogged by reylos stating that Finn is too ugly for Rey. On one art of Finn and Rey as bride and groom, a reylo wrote that having them married was unrealistic because Finn was black and the “only things black guys do are get women pregnant and leave.” I have been harassed racially. I have had friends who have been harassed racially.

So I get what your saying, and I regret not taking the time to better frame my argument to be more clear about what we were doing and why in response to your ask, but the idea of preventing racial harassment is very much a part of this for us. It is disheartening to work hard, to have something you want to share with fellow shippers, and then have it commandeered. Will this rule change be successful? That remains to be seen. But in our view, if fewer people who are part of an element that has been hostile to us participate, then it lessens the chances of our Finnrey content getting into the hands of people who will discredit it, deface it and the like.

People were angry when we allowed multishippers in the first place and people are angry that now they are being excluded. It’s a tough balance. But we are doing what we feel is best for ourselves and the majority of our followers.

I’m black. I’m 27 years old. I’ve been in fandom spaces continuously for 14 years. I’m sure the two of us have had similar experiences. Star Wars fandom has shown that even a fandom with a black main character harbors racists and racist thoughts. It, for me, has been a real education. I literally want nothing else except for Finnrey to flourish. This is why we started this -- to help combat the antiblackness and racism that relegated Finnrey to the basement of fandom.

So with that said, we never have had and never will have any issues with Finnrey-focused events outside of/not affiliated with Finnrey Fridays. We similarly bear you no ill will and want any and every Finnrey event to succeed. We love this pairing and we want to see it get its rightful props, and the more Finnrey-focused events, contests, exchanges, etc., the better, in our opinion.

On a somewhat related note, an anon mentioned that you were being attacked by people purporting to represent this blog. I have spoken to a couple of people personally to let them know we don’t condone that kind of behavior and that moreover, no one speaks for this blog except for the three moderators.
