Radial Collateral Ligament Injury/ Jammed Finger One of the most common hand injuries in basketball, volleyball, and football is a collateral ligament injury otherwise known as a “jammed finger”. This injury occurs from a blunt impact or forced motion to the tip of the finger known as the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP) which can cause partial or complete collateral ligament tears. Fingers are comprised of three different joints. Each joint is supported by ligaments, called collateral ligaments. On the palm aspect of the joint is a structure called the volar plate. A jammed finger is generally a sprain or injury to one of these ligaments. Signs and Symptoms: * pain * redness * swelling * bruising * increase in pain when attempting to move or use the finger * inability to straighten, extend, or bend the finger * throbbing, especially when allowing the finger to rest or when hanging at a person's side In most cases recommended treatment: ▪ Resting the injured finger/hand. ▪ Icing ▪ Compression and splinting to keep it from bending. ▪ Elevating the finger above chest level. ▪ Buddy taping ▪️Physical Therapy : treatment plan to control pain/swelling, improve range of motion, and regain strength/stability/dexterity If the joints are stable and no large fracture fragments are present, individuals can return to sport/recreation quickly with conservative treatments (RICE, Physical Therapy, and buddy taping). 🛑 If the joint is unstable with active ranges of motion, severe ligamentous damage is present, and/or bone fracture has occurred more invasive treatments may be required. #fingersprain #fingerpain #fingerpainting #basketball #football #volleyball #physicaltherapy #physio #lateralcollateralligament #jammed #jammedfinger #injuryatlas #titanpt #betterfasterpt #friday (at Santa Monica, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B82t-FkH6pm/?igshid=1aqz29svhak4i

Which Rugby Players Suffer the Most Injuries?
Hookers and flankers sustain the most injuries.
Forwards are more frequently injured than backs because of their greater involvement in physical collisions and tackles.
In the backs, wings, fullbacks and centres are at the highest risk of injury.
In the scrum, the locks are at greatest risk of facial cuts and cauliflower ear (external deformity to the ear) caused by repeated blows.
Players in rucks and mauls commonly suffer injuries to fingers and thumbs as well as abrasions and lacerations from cleats.

Super Netball Is Here! Faster Than Before Which Means The Possibility For More Injuries
In Australia, 95% of adult and 85% of child netball injuries occur during organised competition and practice. Netball is no longer considered a non - contact sport and thus with the combination of power, speed and poise that Netball requires places many demands on the bodies of players, as a result, injuries can and do occur. What are the Common Causes and Types of Netball Injuries?
Adult netball players most often sustain injuries to the ankles, knees and hands.
Child injury is most often to the hands and/or particularly to the fingers, followed by the ankle.
Knee injuries are generally the most severe and costly injuries associated with netball, quite often resulting in the longest time off Netball.
Overall, netball injuries are mostly sprains and strains with the exception of finger injuries that tend to be fractures or dislocations.
Falls, incorrect landing, over-exertion, fatigue, overuse, collisions with other players and being struck by the ball are common causes of injury.
